Varda Yesterday at 4:05 PM
Dis, after her husband's death, (Walda-V in the Valar Guild) is
now in a long-term care place with 4 computers.
[4:05 PM]
But unfortunately Walda had changed all her passwords to something
stronger then died surprisingly fast and didn't get to tell her
the passwords.
Sandalf13 Yesterday at 4:05 PM
Hallo! Aiya all!
Varda Yesterday at 4:06 PM
She made a free to play account and is coming in anyway. And

[4:07 PM]
Eowyn is online right now (Cenedra) and we have been chatting.
Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 4:07 PM
That's.. an awkward addition to an already tragic situation.

She too is a mother of a gamer. : )

Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 4:18 PM
Thanks
[4:19 PM]
And I got a book which is really a children's book, but the
proceeds go to a good cause and one of the many co-authors is my
celeb-crush so that's ok.
Varda Yesterday at 4:19 PM
Two reasons, nice.
Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 4:20 PM
The stories in it still seem fun!
Sandalf13 Yesterday at 4:20 PM
Is the book inn Dutch or English?
Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 4:20 PM
Dutch.
[4:20 PM]
Which, yes, is rare for me
Sandalf13 Yesterday at 4:21 PM

Eonwe, would you like the gavel for this part? It's shiny!
Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 4:22 PM
(nothing wrong with reading some children's literature if you're
in a feel-good mood)
Sandalf13 Yesterday at 4:22 PM
Nothing wrong with that at all. I enjoyed reading each of the Harry
Potter books when they first appeared, too.
Varda Yesterday at 4:22 PM
I read some. That Hobbit book was also written with
children in mind. : ) (With good vocabularies.)
Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 4:23 PM
There you go
Varda Yesterday at 4:23 PM
Aye, we have the whole set. Meriadoc-V started us with the first
three and we kept going. : )
Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 4:24 PM
Only seen the movies, but still good fun even in my
thirties.
Sandalf13 Yesterday at 4:24 PM
Then of course, I almost have "Goodnight Moon" memorized.
Now I can read it to my grandchildren.
Varda Yesterday at 4:25 PM
Or recite it to them like an old-style story-teller!
[4:25 PM]
We saw the movies too. : )
Sandalf13 Yesterday at 4:25 PM
Yes indeed.
Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 4:25 PM
for added flavor, dress up as the Cryptkeeper when you do it.

I've been playing FFXIV
Varda Yesterday at 4:33 PM
Ahh, thanks Ioreth. How do you like it?
Ioreth Yesterday at 4:34 PM
It's OK. You only need one character to do all the classes, so
that is fun
Shelob Yesterday at 4:35 PM
Evening!
Varda Yesterday at 4:35 PM
Economical in play, I guess.
[4:35 PM]
Aiya Shelob : )
Sandalf13 Yesterday at 4:35 PM
Aiya Shelob!
Shelob Yesterday at 4:35 PM
I've been playing FFXIV as well!
Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 4:35 PM
Aiya!
Varda Yesterday at 4:36 PM
How are you liking it?
Shelob Yesterday at 4:36 PM
And while eventually you'll run out of quests to do on your single
character, there's plenty of level specific leves that will yield
a ton of experience.
[4:37 PM]
And as far as I can tell, the leves are not limited to anything
either, except how many you can have accepted at the same time.
Ioreth Yesterday at 4:37 PM
there are crafting and regular ones
Shelob Yesterday at 4:37 PM
Crafting, gathering and battle.
[4:38 PM]
And there's guild leves and company leves (sort of the faction you
choose when you complete your lvl 20 story quest.
Which, imho, is the only reason why you might want multiple
characters, since there are 3 factions.
Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 4:39 PM
Well, that works too.
Shelob Yesterday at 4:39 PM
And it's kind of fun to dive into a world that connects at least
some of the lore of the FF genre.
Ioreth Yesterday at 4:40 PM
It has a nice story line
Shelob Yesterday at 4:43 PM
Yeah definitely!

Varda Yesterday at 4:43 PM
Does anyone have a Tolkien topic they'd like to try tonight?
[4:44 PM]
Tolkien:
[4:44 PM]
In the LotR, the first chapter starts slow and starts
snowballing.
[4:45 PM]
And leads us right into one of the most popular stories out there.

Actual After-meeting begins:
Shelob Yesterday at 4:45 PM
I have a quick update on membership. I broke my ankle again.
Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 4:45 PM
Alas.
Varda Yesterday at 4:45 PM
Shelob, quit that!
Ioreth Yesterday at 4:45 PM
I'm sorry
Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 4:45 PM
Good thing you have 8 of them.
1
Sandalf13 Yesterday at 4:45 PM
Same ankle?
Varda Yesterday at 4:45 PM
Spiders should not use roller skates.
Shelob Yesterday at 4:46 PM
Same ankle, same bone, same break.
Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 4:46 PM
Eek.
Sandalf13 Yesterday at 4:46 PM
Oy Weh.
Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 4:46 PM
Weak spot.
Sandalf13 Yesterday at 4:46 PM
How long to heal?
Shelob Yesterday at 4:46 PM
Another 3 months at the least.
Varda Yesterday at 4:46 PM
ugh
Sandalf13 Yesterday at 4:46 PM
I say again, oy Weh.
[4:47 PM]
"Oy" is sort of universal now...Weh = "woe."
[4:49 PM]
Make sure to take plenty of Vitamin D3....it really helps. When I
broke one of my metatarsals two years ago, it took about two
months to heal...but the Doc said to start D3, and it really
helped speed the healing process.
Shelob Yesterday at 4:49 PM
Isn't "Oy veh" yiddish for "oh crap"?
Pallando-Valar Yesterday at 4:49 PM
Aiya
Sandalf13 Yesterday at 4:49 PM
One translation, yes. But "Weh" is also perfect German, where it
does in fact mean "woe." Another close expression is "Weh ist
mir," or "woe is me."
Varda Yesterday at 4:49 PM
Aiya Blue Wizard!
Arien Valar Yesterday at 4:50 PM
Aiya
Pallando-Valar Yesterday at 4:50 PM
I am in the land of ice and fire.
Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 4:50 PM
Aiya!
Shelob Yesterday at 4:50 PM
Isn't 'weh' pain though? As in, 'es tut mir weh'? 'it hurts me'
Sandalf13 Yesterday at 4:50 PM
Aiya! Icleand?
Arien Valar Yesterday at 4:50 PM
it is Sandalf
Sandalf13 Yesterday at 4:50 PM
Both. Weh is an all purpose word, it seems.
Arien Valar Yesterday at 4:51 PM
Woe to me would be as similar to Alas?
Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 4:51 PM
A bit of weh goes a long way.
Sandalf13 Yesterday at 4:51 PM
Ha ha ha.
Varda Yesterday at 4:52 PM
Es tut mir leid is how I heard it.
Shelob Yesterday at 4:52 PM
That's 'I'm sorry'
Sandalf13 Yesterday at 4:52 PM
Did you collect any rocks, Pallando? I would love to get my hands
on some real Iceland specimens....my ship never stopped there on
our North Atlantic cruises.
Varda Yesterday at 4:52 PM
Literally that does me pain, but used as I'm sorry
Pallando-Valar Yesterday at 4:53 PM
I have no rocks as of yet, but we're going out tomorrow
[4:53 PM]
Either the southern loop or the golden circle.
Sandalf13 Yesterday at 4:53 PM
I thought that "Es tut mir Leid" meant literally "it does to me
sorrow," because "leiden" is "to suffer."
@Varda
Literally that does me pain, but used as I'm sorry
Shelob Yesterday at 4:53 PM
True! But leid is never used as 'pain' in that context.
Varda Yesterday at 4:53 PM
Thank you
Sandalf13 Yesterday at 4:53 PM
If you mail me some small specimens, i will pay for the postage!
Wow!
Varda Yesterday at 4:54 PM
Silly German class, heh.
Sandalf13 Yesterday at 4:56 PM
I chatted this morning with one of my German host-sons. I write in
German, he writes back in English....good practice for us both.
One of my other four loved America so much that he went to school
here, and then headed to Ohio State U. for a PhD in history...he
is now finishing that up.
[4:56 PM]
He is now married and has one daughter. Life moves so fast.
Varda Yesterday at 4:57 PM
It does. : )
Sandalf13 Yesterday at 4:57 PM
I hope to visit with him and his family in August.
Varda Yesterday at 4:57 PM
Cool : )
Shelob Yesterday at 4:58 PM
It moves rather slow if you're sitting at home with a broken
ankle.
Varda Yesterday at 4:58 PM
Game!
Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 4:58 PM
I hope it doesn't pass you by, Shel!
Shelob Yesterday at 4:58 PM
At least it's not as bad as last time!
[4:58 PM]
This time I knew it was bad and went to the hospital to have it
checked out immediately.
Sandalf13 Yesterday at 4:59 PM
Can you manage to work at home via internet?
Varda Yesterday at 4:59 PM
Experience
Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 4:59 PM
Some things you wish you didn't need experience for.
Shelob Yesterday at 4:59 PM
I'm in school.
Sandalf13 Yesterday at 5:00 PM
Even better.
Shelob Yesterday at 5:00 PM
That's worse. No online classes anymore.
[5:00 PM]
Thankfully!
Sandalf13 Yesterday at 5:00 PM
But isn't summer vacation just about here?
Shelob Yesterday at 5:00 PM
In 6 more weeks plus 2 exam weeks. Yes.
Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 5:01 PM
That's still 2 months. "Just about" seems a bit premature
Shelob Yesterday at 5:01 PM
That's an entire block of courses still to go.
Sandalf13 Yesterday at 5:01 PM
I was thinking of our local college...they are in final exam week
right now.
[5:02 PM]
A two-semester system....Aug thru Dec, then Jan through May.
Shelob Yesterday at 5:02 PM
We also have 2 semesters.... but those are then again subdivided
into 2 more semesters each.
Sandalf13 Yesterday at 5:02 PM
Ah! Now I see, said the blind man.
Shelob Yesterday at 5:03 PM
So... quadrimesters, I guess.
[5:03 PM]
Besides, exam period is also here as well... but only for final
year high schoolers.
[5:03 PM]
Not uni.
Sandalf13 Yesterday at 5:05 PM
Speaking of college, I made the big decision to attend thge
50th Reunion of my graduating class from Lafayette College.
I graduated in 1971, but the 1970, 1971 reunions were cancelled
due to Covid, so we are having a joint reunion with 1972...three
classes will be represented. I booked a room in one of the old
dorms that was there even when I was. June 9 - 11th.
Varda Yesterday at 5:05 PM
Sounds great and long-awaited. : )
[5:05 PM]
We have reached the hour.
Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 5:06 PM
Aren't those just... trimesters, Shel?
Sandalf13 Yesterday at 5:06 PM
A lifetime of doing geology...and I still love it. I am so lucky.
Shelob Yesterday at 5:06 PM
Trimester is 3 periods, Phar.
Varda Yesterday at 5:06 PM
the gavel hops to the shelf to celebrate on the other side of the
wall.
[5:06 PM]
After-meeting!
Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 5:06 PM
No, a trimester is 3 months, isn't it? Semester is 6 months.
Shelob Yesterday at 5:06 PM
I guess Tolkien time got supplanted by 'gezellige' chat.
Varda Yesterday at 5:07 PM
: )
[5:07 PM]
Namarie!
Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 5:07 PM
A quadrimester would be a period of 4 months.
Shelob Yesterday at 5:07 PM
You are correct Phar.
Sandalf13 Yesterday at 5:07 PM
Namarie, Varda!
Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 5:07 PM
Namarie!
Shelob Yesterday at 5:07 PM
But it's also used to denote a year in the life of a student.
NEW
[5:08 PM]
Which is probably why it's been supplanted as 'three times a year'
[5:08 PM]
'Muricans'.
Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 5:09 PM
Huh, I never knew that. I figured semester = 1 half of a year,
even if said "year" isn't a full 12 months, and in same thought, a
trimester would be originally 3 months but now used for 1 fourth
of a study year.
Shelob Yesterday at 5:09 PM
Not entirely.
Sandalf13 Yesterday at 5:09 PM
I think there are too many variations of what a semester is to
count...
Shelob Yesterday at 5:09 PM
It's 1/3rd of a study year.
Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 5:09 PM
Never too old to learn, then
Shelob Yesterday at 5:09 PM
A trimester is also any of the three periods into which the school
or college year is sometimes divided.
Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 5:09 PM
Quarter (Latin: quartarius, lit. 'fourth part of a measure') used
in American English to refer to one of four terms into which the
academic year is divided at some universities.
Shelob Yesterday at 5:09 PM
According to the cambridge dictionary.
Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 5:10 PM
Very well. 4 quarters.
Sandalf13 Yesterday at 5:10 PM
When I taught at the local community college, we were one a
quarter system: Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer. It worked
out very nicely.
[5:11 PM]
Each "quarter" was about 10 weeks.
Shelob Yesterday at 5:14 PM
Yeah, that's how it's divided here. 7 for lessons, 2 for exams,
and 1 for random stuff.
Sandalf13 Yesterday at 5:15 PM
That random stuff sounds interesting.
Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 5:15 PM
Best part of the curriculum, random stuff!
Shelob Yesterday at 5:15 PM
Well, it could be resits, a buffer week, or entirely non-existent.
[5:15 PM]
hence my characterisation of random. You'll never know what it's
going to be.
Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 5:16 PM
10th week's like a box of chocolates.
[5:16 PM]
You expect it to be full of random stuff but then it turns out
there's actually nothing in it.
Shelob Yesterday at 5:16 PM
If you don't know what's in the darn box of chocolates, you bought
the wrong box.
Sandalf13 Yesterday at 5:19 PM
Sounds like "life is like a box of chocolates" - Tom Hanks.
[5:20 PM]
Forest Gump.
Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 5:21 PM
That was the idea
Sandalf13 Yesterday at 5:21 PM
Sorry. I am a little slow in the uptake.
Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 5:21 PM
that's fine
Sandalf13 Yesterday at 5:22 PM
Es tut mir Leid.
Arien Valar Yesterday at 5:22 PM
You never know what you get
Sandalf13 Yesterday at 5:23 PM
That is why I like picking out my chocolates piece-by-piece at a
good candy store...I know what I am getting.
@Sandalf13
Sorry. I am a little slow in the uptake.
Shelob Yesterday at 5:24 PM
So was Forrest Gump. He definitely bought the wrong boxes.
Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 5:25 PM
There was also a running theme in one of the Discworld
novels about how a box of chocolates has a lot of good stuff but
there's also the occasional nougat.
As in the box, as in life
Shelob Yesterday at 5:25 PM
Yum on the nougat!
Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 5:25 PM
Heh, yes, the main character didn't care for it though
Shelob Yesterday at 5:28 PM
Yes, but Rincewind might have been even slower on the uptake than
Forrest was. Wizzard.
Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 5:28 PM
In this case it was Susan Sto Helit, though.
Shelob Yesterday at 5:29 PM
Susan slow whatnow?
Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 5:29 PM
Death's granddaughter.
[5:31 PM]
And I'm not sure if I'd call Rincewind truly slow on the uptake.
He had a few less fluent areas, but seemed to quickly grasp many
things and he was rather more cynical than Forrest In fact,
I'd say the rest of the faculty - Ponder Stibbons excluded - was
rather slower than Rincewind.
Pallando-Valar Yesterday at 5:39 PM
Rincewind knew exactly when to start running (always, mostly).
Very fast on the uptake really.

Perrrsonal gaming report
[6:47 PM]
For (non)flashgaming, here's an inventive one I can't help
but play again every time it comes up
[6:49 PM]
https://www.kongregate.com/games/FractalSunrise/knight-errant
is a chess-like game where you play a lone knight having to
knight-move your way across a battlefield, battling all opposite
pieces along the way. Some interesting "boss" stages along the
way!
Kongregate
Knight-errant
A chess knight#39s little adventure.
[6:49 PM]
Very beautifully set up, with good music as well. Enjoy!
[6:51 PM]
As an aside mention, as said earlier, I've got a new game, bought
for myself for my birthday. As a fan of the old Dungeon Siege
series, I don't know how I hadn't found out about this 14 year old
game before, but it's called Space Siege, which is similar
gameplay but on a space station, and some new features that should
be fun to explore!

Hearthstone:
58 on the reward track now. Did not get demon hunter to 60 yet,
but he's close.
[7:55 PM]
Got enough gold to buy another card back, In a Dark Wood, tied to
the Witchwood expansion.
1 card back to go!
[7:56 PM]
Brawl is Cloneball, where each player gets random legendaries, 4
of each, and the occasional card to make them cheaper.
Much randomness!
[7:58 PM]
For mercenaries, got a whole bunch of levels including starting up
Wrathion and Murky, but no new max levels.
[7:59 PM]
Also a new merc pack through a task, which got me a portrait for
Xyrella.
WoW:
[8:00 PM]
Raiding continues, as we're making heroic progress, defeating the
Oracle and the Prototype Pantheon.
[8:01 PM]
Weekly is timewalks, where I got a sporebat soulshape, looks very
nice
[8:02 PM]
Also children's week was this week! Got the last pet from the BfA
version, Mr. Crabs.
Only took 4 years
[8:04 PM]
Between more RL stuff - including a birthday, and a barbecue at
the workplace the day after - as well as catching up on more
Dragonflight stuff, I haven't had time for alt. There's always
next week!
And that's my report for the week
[8:05 PM]
namarie!
