Fladrif spotted on Hearthstone.

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 4:06 PM
:)

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:06 PM
Also I had a spectator quest for which I watched Fladrif work his way through some Battlegrounds, and apparently third place is enough to count as a win for the quest
[4:06 PM]
And after that we hung out in the game a bit more.
[4:06 PM]
Also, aiya Eonwe

Tolkien!
[4:18 PM]
I have a Tolkien Moment for you that is near and dear to my heart.  : )
[4:19 PM]
Afterwards, Arien has a research question for the group, so don't let me forget to call on you!

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 4:19 PM
Reeeeesearch!

Varda — Yesterday at 4:19 PM
This is only 3 sentences, but when JRRT writes 3 sentences...
[4:19 PM]

The Silmarillion, "Ainulindale", 4th paragraph:
[4:20 PM]
"Then the voices of the Ainur, like unto harps and lutes, and pipes and trumpets, and viols and organs, and like unto countless choirs singing with words, began to fashion the theme of Iluvatar to a great music;

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 4:20 PM
He manages to write longer sentences than i do

Varda — Yesterday at 4:20 PM
and a sound arose of endless interchanging melodies woven in harmony that passed beyond hearing into the depths and into the heights,
and the places of the dwelling of Iluvatar were filled to overflowing, and the music and the echo of the music went out into the Void, and it was not void.

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 4:20 PM
So does William Faulkner...he had one sentence that was a full, several line paragraph in length...

Varda — Yesterday at 4:20 PM
"Never since have the Ainur made any music like to this music, though it has been said that a greater still shall be made before Iluvatar by the choirs of the Ainur and the Children of Iluvatar after the end of days.
"Then the themes of Iluvatar shall be played aright, and take Being in the moment of their utterance,
for all shall then understand fully his intent in their part, and each shall know the comprehension of each,
and Iluvatar shall give to their thoughts the secret fire, being well pleased."
End quote.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:21 PM
So this is just a practice run, really.

Varda — Yesterday at 4:22 PM
It's a teaching time. : )
This spot tells the theme of hope, and the reason music is so powerful in the stories.
And what Phar said. : )

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 4:23 PM
I think that your quote, Varda, goes to the heart of many questions that people have about the fate of the Men and the Elves after the end of Arda....I think it is clearly stated here that the Elves and the Men and the Dwarves, as well as all "Children of Iluvatar" will have a great mingling at the end. Elves and Men will not be separated forever, beyond the end of Arda.

Varda — Yesterday at 4:23 PM
Aye.
[4:23 PM]
Assuming all goes well.

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 4:23 PM
So tell me....why do so many people say that the separation of Men and Elves is permanent?

Varda — Yesterday at 4:23 PM
Two reasons.

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 4:24 PM
I think they forgot about the beautiful quote you gave us above!

Varda — Yesterday at 4:24 PM
There is another area where the elves will not return if Men mess it up. Have to go find that one for you sometime.

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 4:24 PM
I wonder whether the orcs , if they are corrupted Elves, will be restored then to their original selves and be able to return to their people?

Varda — Yesterday at 4:25 PM
And the other reason is they separate after the loss of bodies for a time, the elves remaining in Valinor (or as shades on Arda), and the humans leaving the circles of the world. But later all will return for the final song creating the new Arda.

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 4:26 PM
or whether it is goiing to be like humans and forsaken

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:26 PM
Not sure about being restored per se, Arien, but I don't think any amount of Melkor-made corruption is enough to truly change the fate Illuvatar has in mind for them.
[4:26 PM]
So I assume they will rejoin at the end.

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 4:26 PM
Please do. But as Finrod Felagund points out in his conversation with Athrabeth Finrod ah Andreth, he, for one, certainly believed that Men would not screw it up. Also, Legolas points out to Gimlie in the RK, that the seed of Luthien shall never fail, suggesting that there will always be some good men I(and women) around to pull all the chestnuts out of the first.
[4:27 PM]
No! Tolkien is emphatic about that. Melkor cannot completely destroy anything good that Eru made...it is simply beyond his ability, and his attempts to do so will only redound to his undoing at the end.
[4:28 PM]
That is why the Orcs are such a metaphysical problem for everyone.

Varda — Yesterday at 4:28 PM
to the patterns of Eru in the music.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:29 PM
Which is why I think they'll join the other Children at the end. Just because they're corrupted in this world doesn't mean they won't know "their part" in the final song.

Varda — Yesterday at 4:29 PM
Thus cold gives rain and air the chance to make snowflakes and increase the friendship of Manwe and Ulmo.

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 4:29 PM
Absolutely!

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:29 PM
Though their part might surprise them

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 4:29 PM
Indeed...as all our deeds, in the long run, surprise us.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:29 PM
Orc and elf and man and dwarf singing hand in hand

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 4:30 PM
If there is estel for Orcs, there is estel for all of us, as well...despite our numerous failings

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:30 PM
As I recall, in some later parts of HoME it's said that while Elves will actually live in the new Arda, Men will be visitors.

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 4:30 PM
Don't forget the Hobbits! They will be there too.

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 4:31 PM
well it is said they are descendants of some humans . was it of the House of Beaor?

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 4:32 PM
Maybe Haleth?

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 4:32 PM
Haleth yes that was it
[4:32 PM]
house of Haleth

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:32 PM
Like the pukelmen?

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 4:32 PM
Yup...they are supposedly descendants of Haleth as well.
[4:33 PM]
And the Dunlendings, and the Dead Men...

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 4:33 PM
poor Haleth .. all the people that are seemingly deformed come from her ..

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 4:34 PM
I think that the fact that so many of her household survived into the Third Age is a testament to some of that House's redeeming qualities. They are a hardy bunch, to be sure.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:34 PM
Simple and friendly is not a bad thing

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 4:35 PM
aye

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 4:35 PM
The Hobbits are not simple, in most senses of the term, but they are certainly friendly.
[4:36 PM]
As a matter of fact, if you think about it, unlike most men, I do not believe that any of Haleth's descendants ever turned to evil. ???

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:36 PM
Don't recall anything suggesting Hobbits or pukel-men coming from the House of Haleth.

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 4:36 PM
I need to do some research on that to find out where I saw it.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:36 PM
I don't remember the Hobbits, but pretty sure the Druedain were confirmed somewhere.

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:37 PM
The Druedain were around in the First Age, and friendly with the the houses of the Edain that were considered Numenoreans.
[4:38 PM]
UT has a section on the Druedain, I just can't get to my book right now.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:38 PM
Fair enough. They likely mingled though.

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 4:38 PM
Unfinished Tales...Chapter on the Druedain. It specifically states that they are descended from the House of Haleth.
Any Merry thought that the Druedain in the forest reminded him of the Pukel men...

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:38 PM
I want to compare it to Homo Sapiens and Neanderthals but that feels offensive to the Druedain.

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 4:39 PM
I think they deserve better than that...AS Ghan-buri-Ghan says, "We are not children."

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:39 PM
Well, neither were the Neanderthals

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 4:40 PM
Wait one moment! Do not the Lake Town men live on stilts in the lake, just as the Neanderthals supposedly did?

Varda — Yesterday at 4:40 PM
Ok, on to Arien's topic.
While she can still be here.

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:41 PM
From UT on the Druedain:
"The Strangest of all the customs of the Folk of Haleth was the presence among them of a people of a wholly different kind... They were not many, a few hundred maybe, living apart in families or small tribes, but in friendship, as members of the same community."

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 4:42 PM
and the lake forms a neat link in fact

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:42 PM
So with the folk of Haleth, but not really of the Folk of Haleth.

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 4:43 PM
Thank you Eonwe , and Varda and Sandalf and Phari .. that was interesting

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:44 PM
(I fought to get my book off my shelf, so there you go :})

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 4:44 PM
 yay for winners !

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 4:45 PM
There is a supposed Neanderthal village for you..
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/98425690877104128/980587722559336458/th-3729345638.jpg

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 4:46 PM
Right my question is .. a chronological order of points where ships were crucial for the history of Middleearth .. and sandalf that does not look simple to me . in fact it looks a lot like Esgaroth

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:46 PM
At first glance, building over the water seems a good use of space, but I wonder at the longevity of wooden poles in water.
[4:46 PM]
but now switching over to Arien's topic

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 4:47 PM
I do not think that the Neanderthals were in any way simple...did you know that their cranial capacity, especially in the frontal lobes, was greater than that of modern men and women?

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 4:47 PM
as for that .. the poles is what survives Phari .. the remains of such a village have been found in Lake Constance

Varda — Yesterday at 4:47 PM
dipped in La Brea tarpits

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:47 PM
Right. Tar should help.

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 4:47 PM
They really got around, then...

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:49 PM
Sorry, gotta quote this real quick on the Druedain:
"Sometimes these images were strange and fantastic, or even fearful: among the grim jests to which they put their skill was the making of Orc-figures which they set at the borders of the land, shaped as if fleeing from it, shrieking in terror."
Auros approves of their sense of humor :}

[4:53 PM]
Now then .. folks sltill up for the ship listing or is it too late for that :)?

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:54 PM
Right, what was it, chronological list of ship-related history?

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 4:54 PM
chronological list
[4:54 PM]
but the second works as well

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:54 PM
I said of, not or

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 4:55 PM
oh yes hehe

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:55 PM
Well, the Valar didn't really use boats... so the exodus of Elves from Middle-earth to Valinor was probably the first time such vessels were involved.

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 4:56 PM
Aye
[4:56 PM]
the next thing would be the burning ships at Alqualonde i think

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:57 PM
And the taking of what remained, only to be burned on the other side of the ocean.
[4:58 PM]
I don't think they were particularly important throughout most of the war in Beleriand, though the refugees making their way to Balar would send boats from there to find Valinor.

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 4:59 PM
Okay we keep that in mind though.

Varda — Yesterday at 4:59 PM
Stars were sailboats.

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:00 PM
Morgoth didn't seem particularly interested in waging naval battles. Probably afraid Ulmo was ready to sink his ships if he tried.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:00 PM
Ah of course! And the sun and moon had vessels of their o wn.

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 5:01 PM
Then we put them after the Exodus of the Elves before the burning of the shjips
or before actually

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:02 PM
Although, he didn't really need a blockade since the Valar had shut the Noldor out anyway, and "in the scales of his malice" couldn't imagine any form of mercy coming from them.

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 5:02 PM
since the stars were created as guiding lightsx for the Elves

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:02 PM
The sun went up after the burning, right? When the Noldor were already marching on Thangorodrim.

onwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:03 PM
The sun came up as Fingolfin and his people arrived into Beleriand after crossing the Helcaraxë.
[5:04 PM]
Fingolfin beat on Morgoth's door for a few minutes, realized no one was home, and went about his business. No sale of the Noldor's patented home alarm system that day.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:05 PM
"Do you have a moment to talk about our lord and savior, Eru?"

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:05 PM
Morgoth: "I met him, and he won't let me do what I want!"
[5:06 PM]
But aye, some new stars made for the awakening of the Elves, also some older ones brought together into constellations. Valacirca for one.
[5:07 PM]
Then the Exodus aka "The Great March". A giant island used as a ship until the Valar got tired of ferrying Elves to Aman.
Then anyone who still wanted to get there had to use a ship.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:08 PM
They made swan-ships, as I recall.

You guys are fun, heh, but I need to skeedaddle*

confused gavel tries to figure whether to run to Eonwe or the hammerpad

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:10 PM
places Eonwe on the hammerpad

Varda — Yesterday at 5:10 PM
the hammerpad slips up next to it and it falls
but Eonwe can stop anything

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:10 PM
stops because he's been informed it's hammertime

Varda — Yesterday at 5:10 PM
Annnnnd

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:10 PM

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:10 PM
There you go, a bad joke. It's y'all's own fault :}

Varda — Yesterday at 5:10 PM
Free chat, with Eonwe obviously worthy to wield the hammer.

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 5:11 PM
Sandalf13 is still here!

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 5:11 PM
a team gavel

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 5:11 PM
Is the hammer like thor's hammer?

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:11 PM
:}

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 5:11 PM
a very funny team gavel hehe

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 5:11 PM
It would take a team to lift that, it would.

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 5:11 PM
:)

Varda — Yesterday at 5:12 PM
One needs only to be worthy. : )
Namarie for now!

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:12 PM

Oy.
*rolling eyes*
[5:13 PM]

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:13 PM
:}

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 5:14 PM
ooops that was Sam and Frodo wan ' t it  ?

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:14 PM
It was

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 5:14 PM
Indeed.
[5:15 PM]
I doubt that Eonwe would feel as light to Ar as Frodo did to SAm...after all, Sam wondered about whether it was Frodo's long wanderings in the wild, or the Ring eating at this fea and hroar, but he found Frodo as light as a Hobbit child.

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 5:17 PM
shall we call it the Hand of the Valar? I can t imagine that Frodo lost such a lot of weight , all though  he did not eat while at the orcs' tower

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 5:17 PM
I agree with you, Arien. I seem to remember that Sam also thought it was a final gift to him from the Valar...to have the strength to get frodo where he needed to go...

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 5:18 PM
indeed aye

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:19 PM
Could be both: Frodo lost alot of weight, but Sam wouldn't have been in much better condition. Then again, the lembas really shine when that's what you're relying on.
[5:20 PM]
The lembas themselves were a gift from the Valar: the fact that the corn used to make them was still potent throughout the Noldorin exile was said to be a mercy.

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 5:21 PM
Also Sam did not have the weight of the Ring hanging on him...except for the few brief minutes when he took the Ring to fulfill the Quest...before he knew that Frodo was still alive. Not a very long tine.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:23 PM
Well, I suppose we'll continue Arien's chronology next week?

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 5:23 PM
I should think so
[5:23 PM]
My brain is not that awake anymore hehe
[5:24 PM]
but it was already useful

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:24 PM
I need to turn my attention elsewhere anyway.
[5:24 PM]
Ar and Phar, don't forget the R(P) :}

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 5:24 PM
oki

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 5:24 PM
Namarie, Eonwe! Good luck with your attention elsewhere.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:25 PM
I couldn't! I visit the forum every day to see if there's anything new

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:25 PM

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:25 PM
Though I suppose you mean we shouldn't forget to contribute

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:25 PM
Both :}
[5:25 PM]
Auros will be involved in the story again soon. :}

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 5:27 PM
Namarie, Arien!
[5:29 PM]
Are you still here, Ar? How are you doing?

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:30 PM
Pretty good, playing a level in a Flashgame before I open up Hearthstone.

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 5:30 PM
Everyone is healthy out your way?

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:30 PM
As far as I know, yes!

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 5:30 PM
Wonderful!
[5:31 PM]
I am still struggling to learn how to play LoTRO. It is not easy for me.
[5:32 PM]
I played on the Landroval server the week before last, but I was pretty busy with work this past week.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:32 PM
Well, at least you're getting started  Enjoying it, at least?

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 5:33 PM
Yes...when I can figure out what I am doing!
[5:34 PM]
I told Varda that  I really think that  I need to find someone who plays this game in the local area, so I can perhaps treat them to some coffee/dessert for some on-hand lessons. I wish there was some way I could figure out if there are any players in my local area.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:37 PM
Don't know about that. You could ask around on a forum perhaps. But I'm sure online help can also be found

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 5:37 PM
I left a message for the LoTRO support desk, asking them if they had any references for teaching tools on how to use the game. I left my E-Mail address, but have not heard back as of yet.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:41 PM
Might work, but I suggest focusing on official forums, to maybe get player advice. I know for World of Warcraft there are comprehensive websites, but I don't know if anything of similar scale is available for LotRO.

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 5:42 PM
I shall keep trying, in the meantime. It is Memorial Day weekend here, and tomorrow is the actual holiday....so a free Monday. I will be on LoTRO again tomorrow...Now that  have gotten Chapter 3 (Geology of Middle-earth) to Varda, I can proceed a bit slower on Chapters 7 and 8. I am still waiting to hear back from one of my geologic reviews....wo have already responded.
[5:43 PM]
that is to say, "two" of my geologic reviewers...

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:43 PM
good results so far?

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 5:44 PM
Yes. I am encouraged. I hope I do not have to make too many changes, so Varda can go ahead and upload the whole damn thing...then I can finally break into some new territory.

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 6:04 PM
Well... I need to move on to my next project...studying German irregular verbs....you know the bit. Hope you are healthy and enjoying a wonderful weekend. Sei gesund!

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 6:04 PM
good luck! and namarie

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 6:05 PM
Vielen Danke! Ich bin jetzt auf zu meiner Liste von deutsche irregelmäsigen Verben! Tschüßi und Namarie!

Personal gaming report:
[6:10 PM]
For (non)flashgaming, this week you can have
https://www.kongregate.com/games/toweld/four-color-theorem-coloring-puzzle-game
    Kongregate
Four Color Theorem - Coloring Puzzle Game
In mathematics, the four color theorem, or the four color map theorem, states that, given any separation of a plane into contiguous regions, producing a figure...

[6:11 PM]
Based on the theorem that within any configuration of regions on a map, you'll never need more than 4 colors to have all adjacing regions in diffrent colors.
[6:12 PM]
If that doesn't explain it, just try it  A whole bunch of levels for you to color, making sure each color doesn't touch the same color. And there's randomly generated daily levels as well to drive the point of the theorem home even more!
[6:14 PM]

Blizzard gaming:
[6:15 PM]
Hearthstone:
Level 77 on the reward track. Still going strong.
[6:16 PM]
Saving up gold, but there's a 2000 gold miniset coming up in a few days, so I'll be able to buy that when I hit 2k
[6:17 PM]
Both the rogue and the warrior have reached 300 wins now, once again at the bottom of the matchmaking rating. But that's fine!
[6:18 PM]
Oh, and as mentioned, I had a quest to spectate a friend's victory, and apparently Fladrif getting third place in battlegrounds was enough  Looked quite impressive, too!
[6:19 PM]
Brawl is a heroic arena, which I always skip, so instead I completed a few duels for the weekly quest. Had some nice success with a secret-hunter.
[6:21 PM]
For mercenaries, some more leveling, including getting Jaina her first bunch of levels. Also got a pack from one merc's Task 16, which got me a new one unlocked, Xuen, the white tiger
[6:22 PM]
WoW:
[6:24 PM]
In heroic raiding, Halondrus down! Opening the path to the last boss of this first section, Anduin Wrynn himself. Not much more complicated than his normal version, but everything hits harder and given how difficult he already was on normal, we might take a while to take him down. We're having more trouble getting the adds down on time, but phase-wise his own health seems to go down fast enough. Hopefully shouldn't take very long.
[6:25 PM]
With 9.2.5 coming we're not sure how much longer we've got to take down the Jailer, but season 4 should launch later in the summer, so we've got time still.
[6:26 PM]
Weekly is timewalks, which are always fun, especially since I got Azjol-Nerub twice, which is short-ish and quite interesting
[6:27 PM]
Also yet another shoulder appearance from a Torghast boss, the Veiled Tormentor's Mantle. Gotta collect em all!
[6:29 PM]
And more alting time! Had good fun on the mage, sending her into the Maw where she hit level 49, and then onwards to Oribos. She's currently exploring the place through that short questline, but should be ready for Bastion soon. When she reaches that place, though, I think I'll switch to the paladin and play through all 4 main zones.
And that's my report for the week!
