Varda Today at 3:46 PM
Thanks, Arien.
[3:46 PM]
14 minutes 'til meeting.
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 3:47 PM
Aiya!
[3:47 PM]
No more hour disadvantage
Varda Today at 3:48 PM
Yay!
[3:49 PM]
If Eastern went to not changing from DST like some politicians
are discussing, would that be helpful for y'all?
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 3:50 PM
I think it'd mean midnight meetings for the entire summer
[3:50 PM]
or, not changing from?
[3:50 PM]
You mean in october?
[3:50 PM]
Then we'd spend all winter at 10 again
Varda Today at 3:50 PM
I mean like the time right now not changing again.
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 3:51 PM
Yep, that'd mean early meetings in winter, normal in summer I
guess.
[3:51 PM]
I prefer the current way, honestly. Only a few weeks of possible
confusion.
Varda Today at 3:51 PM
Interesting
Sandalf13 Today at 3:58 PM
Hallo All! Aiya!
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 3:58 PM
Aiya!
Varda Today at 3:58 PM
Aiya Sandalf : )
Ioreth Today at 3:58 PM
The law is we'll change in the fall to what we been.
Varda Today at 3:58 PM
Aiya Ioreth : )
Ioreth Today at 3:59 PM
then we'll spring ahead in the spring and never change again
Varda Today at 3:59 PM
We just sprang ahead to spring.
[3:59 PM]
Why wait?
Ioreth Today at 4:00 PM
the permanent change won't come until next spring. They gotta
give time for computer programmers, transport folks, air planes
and all of that to reprogram things
Sandalf13 Today at 4:01 PM
There was a very interesting article in the NYT a few days ago,
about which areas would be negatively affected by a permanent
change to DST. Naturally, the areas in the western part of each
time zone would be negatively affected. Needless to say, Lincoln
is only 2.5 hours away (driving) from Mountain Time Zone, so we
are in the western edge of CST. We would not see the sun until
very late in the winter.
[4:01 PM]
I believe the article said the sun would rise here in December
around 0830.
Varda Today at 4:04

It has not yet passed the House or been signed by the President,

I am still thinking about it.
[4:04 PM]
Anyway, it's that time, heh.

Yay!
[4:08 PM]
Aiya Eonwe
Ioreth Today at 4:08 PM
I couldn't name my new High Elf Ioreth (I know, she wasn't an
elf) So I named her Yoreth.

Varda Today at 4:10 PM
Thank you. I saw that chart and felt concern.
[4:10 PM]
Yoreth works well!
[4:10 PM]
Did you need an invite, Ioreth?
Ioreth Today at 4:10 PM
No, I dropped her into my own kin
Sandalf13 Today at 4:10 PM
Yes, Varda. I think your home is on the edge of the not so
reasonable sunrise time as well. Does any of this affect the NL
Ar?
Arien Valar Today at 4:11 PM
Aiya all :)

Aiya!
Ioreth Today at 4:11 PM
Aiya
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 4:12 PM
Aiya!
[4:12 PM]
Well, it'd make winter meetings more annoying, but it's not like
we've got any influence on what happens in the US.
Sandalf13 Today at 4:13 PM
Is the NL -1 GMT?
[4:13 PM]
Or GMT?
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 4:14 PM
+1
[4:14 PM]
+2 at DST, I guess?
Varda Today at 4:15 PM
Well, it hasn't passed into law yet, so it's just interesting.
Seems quite possible however.
[4:16 PM]
Any other membership news?
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 4:17 PM

I don't know who you're talking about, but eww.
Ioreth Today at 4:23 PM
It was ruined, so we raised money to get her a new one. She had
been unconscious for 4-6 days when someone found her. It looks
like she'll be able to come back soon.
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 4:23 PM
Ah yes, unbridled darkness. Huge dps and survival gain but with
your surroundings going dark and only the minimap stopping you
from falling off of each walkway...
Ioreth Today at 4:23 PM
You might know her, she's been in game since it began. Her
character is Lerillos
[4:23 PM]
I spelled that wrong
Varda Today at 4:23 PM
I do, actually.
[4:24 PM]
That's horrible.
Ioreth Today at 4:24 PM
She is a very much loved member of the music community. She was
who first taught me how to dance and how to start music

Varda Today at 4:25 PM
Here's hoping for her speedy recovery from all that!
[4:25 PM]
Eonwe, please go ahead.
Eonwλ Valar Today at 4:26 PM
Aye, hope she recovers quickly.

I can drop something in, I suppose
Varda Today at 4:38 PM
I have a topic, but would like to hear if anyone else has one,
short or long, first. We can do a batch of them.
Eonwλ Valar Today at 4:39 PM
None from me at the moment.
Varda Today at 4:39 PM
I checked my friend list and Lerillos is spelled correctly.
[4:39 PM]
Ok
[4:40 PM]
Chain of custody of the One Ring, looking at what "right" each new
owner had or thought he had to the Ring. Did the "right to the
Ring" affect what happened to the Ring? Did the "right" affect the
experience of the wearer?
[4:40 PM]
Sauron, Isildur, Deagol, Smeagol/Gollum, Bilbo, Frodo, Sam, Frodo,
Gollum.
[4:41 PM]
What right did each feel they had to the One Ring, or at least
others thought they had? Did that right affect the person?
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 4:43 PM
Well, Sauron made the thing, and was always in control of it. He
didn't handle it in too benevolent a manner, but it did not
diminish him as such.
Eonwλ Valar Today at 4:43 PM
Well, starting with Sauron, he created it, so if anyone had a
right to it, he did. The problem was he was using it to deny all
of Middle-Earth their Eru-given Free Will because he, and only he,
was wise enough to tell people how they should run their lives.
Sandalf13 Today at 4:44 PM
I have always been slightly puzzled by The Ring. At times, it
seems as if the Ring itself is sentient, as when it fell off
Isildur's finger in the Anduin. Did The Ring "want" to fall off?
Could it control itself so it could somehow enlarge, and fall off
Isildur's finger more easily? Or was it being directed to do so by
someone/something else, i.e. Sauron? But Sauron was in a highly
weakened position at that time... so, i wonder.
[4:45 PM]
Did it "want" to leave Gollum, and be found b bilbo?
Arien Valar Today at 4:45 PM
The only way I can express it , it was fate.
[4:46 PM]
And it certainly trying to get back to Sauron]
Varda Today at 4:46 PM
The Ring had some will of its own, since it had part of Sauron's
life force within. It had will and some ability to figure out a
rudimentary plan to "go home".
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 4:46 PM
I believe someone suggested it left Gollum to find an orc, but
fate, or the Valar, put Bilbo there instead.
Sandalf13 Today at 4:46 PM
Yes...but what is "fate?" Is that noty Eru's will? Or does "fate"
exist outside of Eru's control? That does not seem
possible...
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 4:47 PM
Being able to enlarge itself seems feasible enough.
Varda Today at 4:47 PM
"Fate" is what is in the Song. Humans are able to go outside
"fate". Namo of Mandos sometimes tells the fate.
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 4:49 PM
As I recall, it also had an uncanny ability to drop around Frodo's
finger in Bree.
Eonwλ Valar Today at 4:49 PM
The Ring's "will" was Sauron's will. Sauron of course wanted his
Ring back, so the Ring would affect its wearer to try and get back
to Sauron in the most effective way. Gollum was useless for that
goal. An orc would've been better, but Bilbo was there instead.
Still, Bilbo was better than nothing.
Sandalf13 Today at 4:50 PM
Then...stupid Ring....it picked the wrong person....or was it
ordained to pick the wrong person? Then we get back to my earlier
posit...
[4:50 PM]
Gandalf himself tells Frodo that it was a surprise that the Ring
found its way to Bilbo...
Eonwλ Valar Today at 4:51 PM
The Ring picked who it picked, and Eru picked who Eru picked,
Guess who won out, heh.
Varda Today at 4:51 PM
Yes, Gandalf told Frodo that Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. The
Ring wasn't trying to go to Bilbo, but most likely to a goblin. At
that point in time, Sauron was calling it and all evil creatures
to himself.
[4:51 PM]
Eru wins again. : )
Arien Valar Today at 4:53 PM
aye Varda thatt is what i meant by fate .. i was thinking of that
remark of Gandalf
Eonwλ Valar Today at 4:53 PM
There's some thoughts on it in Return of the Shadow, but nothing I
can quote from memory.
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 4:54 PM
Posted.
Varda Today at 4:54 PM
The Valar had a light hand in things.
[4:54 PM]
Thanks, Phar. : )
Sandalf13 Today at 4:54 PM
I believe that the issue of "fate" in the context of Middle-earth
- and in our own Arda - is a very metaphysical discussion about
the nature of Eru. Did Eru create evil itself to serve as "the
Adversary," as he is called in Job? If so, why would a kind and
just Eru create evil? Merely to test his other creations? But can
we expect to know the mind of Iluvatar?I think not. I think that
is Tolkien's intent...to remind us of what we DO NOT KNOW and
simply accept what IS.
Varda Today at 4:55 PM
Eru gave the Song of Creation, but he also gave free will.
[4:55 PM]
Melkor was not created evil.
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 4:56 PM
Was Melker flawed in creation? I believe he found his evil while
straying from Eru into the Void, but regardless of whether Eru was
responsible for the Void, the very decision to go into the Void
must have come from somewhere.
Eonwλ Valar Today at 4:56 PM
Create evil, no, but with Free Will comes the opportunity for
evil, the opportunity to reject Eru, to reject the Free Will of
others and their rights under Eru.
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 4:56 PM
*Melkor
Varda Today at 4:56 PM
Melkor had a part in all gifts except for the Secret Fire that
gave life. He sought that, not truly understanding that it was
part of the nature of Eru, not a thing hidden away in the Void
where he sought it.
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 4:56 PM
Then was it not Eru who gave him that lack of understanding?
Varda Today at 4:57 PM
Melkor felt a lack, but it was never intended to be a lack.
[4:57 PM]
Sometimes we life forms have a head made of brick.
[4:57 PM]
We want what we want, reality is just something to ignore, right?
Eonwλ Valar Today at 4:58 PM
All creatures under Eru are finite and thus are incapable of
seeing the whole picture. Mistakes will inevitably be made due to
limits of understanding, but that is different from outright
"Evil" which would be a Will to act against Eru and/or other
Wills.
Varda Today at 4:58 PM
Sometimes we just don't want to know, because we want what we
want. That can be carried to extremes.
Sandalf13 Today at 4:59 PM
If Eru equals ALL KNOWLEDGE, then it is not likely that S/He could
create something more than itself, so Eru had to know what MIGHT
happen to Melkor, and to all of those of us who exercise "free
will," which i truly believe that we have.
Eonwλ Valar Today at 4:59 PM
Aulλ was not "Evil" for making the Dwarves because it was done
with malice. It was not done to defy Eru or supplant Eru's
children.
[5:00 PM]
Melkor took Eru's children, twisted and broke them into mockeries
of what Eru had made them to be.
Sandalf13 Today at 5:00 PM
And Aule repented immediately of his error, and sought to destroy
the Dwarves, raising up his hammer to strike them...but Eru
already took pity on the Dwarves and stayed his Aule's hand. IT
reminds me very much of the story of Abraham and Isaac..
Varda Today at 5:01 PM
Eru was willing to take the risk, to create the wonders that he
did. It would be a far better creation with free will. He also
had a plan for making it work out, anyway. No evil could be
done that would not eventually come back to the glory that Eru was
making.
[5:02 PM]
(Good night, Ioreth!)
Sandalf13 Today at 5:02 PM
As Aragorn says to the Fellowship, I think that you (Sam) has the
right of it...
Varda Today at 5:03 PM
Back to the chain of custody. Sauron had the One Ring first,
because he made it and poured part of himself into it, and used
it. He did not part with it voluntarily.
Eonwλ Valar Today at 5:03 PM
Tolkien gets into the metaphysicals of it a bit in one of the
essays in NoME.
Varda Today at 5:03 PM
I look forward to reading that, Eonwe!
Eonwλ Valar Today at 5:04 PM
Was perusing it last night for other reasons, (because of course
:}) and re-stumbled upon it, heh. (edited)
Varda Today at 5:04 PM
How did Isildur come into possession of the One Ring? (edited)
[5:04 PM]
(Of course! We want to know it all!)
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 5:04 PM
Right of conquest, I suppose? He kept it as an heirloom and
trophy.
[5:04 PM]
Well, he intended to.
[5:05 PM]
His ownership was, however, marked by his refusal to destroy it.
Sandalf13 Today at 5:05 PM
Do you think that Elendil and Gil-Galad (and therefore those close
to them) understood that Sauron was wearing the Ring when he
appeared on the battlefield?
Varda Today at 5:05 PM
He also stated that he took it as wergild for his father's death.
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 5:05 PM
Ah, yes, better term than "trophy" perhaps, Varda.
Varda Today at 5:06 PM
It was a trophy too, but wergild sounded good for taking
possession.
[5:06 PM]
And an excuse not to destroy it.
Sandalf13 Today at 5:06 PM
The Elves, did, in fact, by that time know that Sauron had
secretly forged the One Rig to control the others...including the
Three that Celebrimbor made for the Elves...
Eonwλ Valar Today at 5:06 PM
So the Ring would turn into a gild in the light of the full moon.
badjoke
Varda Today at 5:06 PM
If he and Elrond knew it should be destroyed, we can figure the
upper echelon knew of the One Ring on Sauron. Also
[5:06 PM]
heh
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 5:07 PM
It is a strange term, yes... ;)
Sandalf13 Today at 5:07 PM
Very Old English...
Varda Today at 5:07 PM
Also, as soon as Sauron put it on, the Elven rings knew. The elves
took off their rings when they realize theirs were about to be
taken over.
[5:07 PM]
Wer= man. Gild=gold.
Eonwλ Valar Today at 5:08 PM
Payment for a death, basically.
Varda Today at 5:08 PM
Aye.
Sandalf13 Today at 5:08 PM
Geld = money in German, Gelb = gold in German. so you can see the
etymology of ""gild" in English.
Eonwλ Valar Today at 5:08 PM
And aye, the Elves would know about Sauron's Ring. Their war with
him over it began back around SA1600.
Sandalf13 Today at 5:09 PM
Poor Celebrimbor. He certainly met an untimely end.
Varda Today at 5:10 PM
Tough being a Feanorian.
Arien Valar Today at 5:10 PM
I will post tomorrow or Tuesday in the rp it is unfortunately time
for me to retire and my crazy lad to call it quits as well
Varda Today at 5:10 PM
It is past the hour. Sleep well!
Sandalf13 Today at 5:10 PM
Namarie, Arien! Good to hear from you.
Eonwλ Valar Today at 5:10 PM
Assuming it's not old versions of the tale coloring my memory, it
was with the help of the Numenoreans that they pushed him out of
Eriador around that time, but unfortunately too late to save
Eregion.
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 5:10 PM
Namarie!
Varda Today at 5:10 PM
the gavel hops up and down impatiently
Arien Valar Today at 5:10 PM
and I had to read up how Frali landed in the company in the
first place
Varda Today at 5:10 PM

Eonwλ Valar Today at 5:10 PM
Sleep well Arien.
Varda Today at 5:10 PM

After-meeting!
Arien Valar Today at 5:11 PM
its been a while agao hehe

Varda Today at 5:11 PM
Feel free to continue.
Sandalf13 Today at 5:11 PM
Varda Today at 5:11 PM
Aye, it has!
Eonwλ Valar Today at 5:11 PM
Thought it might be fun for Frali to tell his version of how he
got there :}
Varda Today at 5:11 PM
Aye!
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 5:11 PM
Would be interesting if Shelob rejoined and everyone just acted
like she was there all along.

Varda Today at 5:12 PM
If our Avar friend came back, it could be that he was avoiding
Rivendell, remained outside in the forest, and trailed behind the
group when it left. Then popped out of hiding when someone was in
trouble.
[5:12 PM]
Namarie, Sunshine!
Eonwλ Valar Today at 5:16 PM
One line in my post is meant to hearken back a little bit to one
of my Auros stories, which makes sense when you consider the
relationship between who said it there and who it was said to in
my post :} (edited)
Varda Today at 5:16 PM
: )
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 5:16 PM
"Where have you been?" "What do you mean? I've been right behind
you the whole time. Wasn't Rivendell great?"
Varda Today at 5:16 PM
heh
Sandalf13 Today at 5:17 PM
FYI, I am attaching a few geologic cross sections that have great
bearing on the geology of Middle-earth. I REALLY need to get that
chapter FINISHED. I have presented all the data I could, fair and
square, and have now gotten to the last - and hardest -
part...arm-waving! That is to say, putting it all together in a
Plate Tectonic setting. Like everything else, the geology of
Middle-earth is complicated, especially because Tolkien provides
so few geologic facts. ANyway, everything I have written to date
is supportable geologically. I will get the finished chapter off
to Varda (for a look see) and to a couple of other geologists
before review, before it is posted.
Varda Today at 5:19 PM
Thank you for your immense amount of work!
Sandalf13 Today at 5:19 PM
Just keep thinking of those crazy geologists wielding unwieldy
hammers in the video I sent you all more than a few weeks
ago...and odd group, Geologists.

Varda Today at 5:20 PM
So, Isildur had the One Ring. When he was chased by orcs, the Ring
"saw" a chance to go to an orc and back to Sauron, and slipped off
his finger. Bad timing (rings are not all that smart?) and left
the finger while Isildur was swimming, so that it wound up in the
mud at the bottom of the river.
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 5:20 PM
I always feel kinda sad when I consider that all those fossils and
geological bits of evidence have been melted down and swallowed up
by the earth over those billions of years.
Varda Today at 5:21 PM
Any group really interested in something tends to look odd to
outsiders. : )
Sandalf13 Today at 5:21 PM
Indeed.
Varda Today at 5:21 PM
Dig them up! Get an uplift going!
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 5:21 PM
I think it's a bit late for the subducted bits
Varda Today at 5:22 PM
Oops. Too late.
Sandalf13 Today at 5:22 PM
You re absolutely right, Ar....they have long been remelted in a
process geologists call "anatexis." I always wondered why they
like to pick on Texas...he he.
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 5:22 PM
Like we have to put together a jigsaw where 99% of the pieces have
been melted down.
Varda Today at 5:23 PM
Because we're there! Big and bold and beautiful. Ok, different
spelling.
[5:23 PM]
Just try astronomy for sheer frustration. : )
Sandalf13 Today at 5:23 PM
Exactly. Exactamente. Genau.
Varda Today at 5:23 PM
Yup.
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 5:24 PM
Heh. That's almost the opposite... a lot of the pieces that are
actually already gone, we can still see and use.
Varda Today at 5:24 PM
Or at least guess at the pieces from a tiny change in a dot of
light.
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 5:25 PM
Science!
Varda Today at 5:25 PM
So, the Ring of the wergild wound up in the drink.
[5:25 PM]
Science! Spoon! oops pardon.
Sandalf13 Today at 5:25 PM
Please excuse me. I just got here from my workout at Planet
Fitness, and need to go home for dinner, before I return to the
mines to work on Chapter Three, that is to say, return to the
Telegraph Mill to work on my laptop. I will check in later to see
if anyone is still around.
Eonwλ Valar Today at 5:25 PM
At least it didn't end up in the soda fountain.
[5:25 PM]
Take care Sandalf.
Varda Today at 5:25 PM
And who innocently went fishing and wound up with the greatest
power on the planet, for a few minutes, if only he had known how
to use it.
Sandalf13 Today at 5:26 PM
Thanks! Talk to you later, maybe?
Varda Today at 5:26 PM
Namarie Sandalf!
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 5:26 PM
namarie Sandalf!
Varda Today at 5:26 PM
I am often on at odd times in Discord. Likely.
Eonwλ Valar Today at 5:26 PM
Don't know if I'll have much time before midnight once I walk away
from the screen.
Varda Today at 5:27 PM
I should really not be on. Bad me, spending far too much time
sitting. Doc will be wroth.
[5:27 PM]
Well, we didn't get far down the chain of custody, but we had fun.
[5:27 PM]
Namarie!
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 5:27 PM
Namarie!
[5:28 PM]
Doing some Hearthstone stuff before I launch into the gaming
report.
Eonwλ Valar Today at 5:28 PM
I would say something about getting one of those adjustable
computer desktops that let you stand and be at the computer, but
might not be worth the investment unless this is expected to be a
long-term concern. (edited)
Varda Today at 5:28 PM
Standing is also not what I'm supposed to be doing. More like
lying down heh.
[5:28 PM]
with ten minute walks between one hour lie-downs.
Eonwλ Valar Today at 5:29 PM
OK, so some strings to hang your laptop at an angle from the
ceiling is what you need. Got it :}
Varda Today at 5:29 PM
Hoping that will be lightened up tomorrow.
[5:29 PM]
Aye!!
Eonwλ Valar Today at 5:30 PM
Can't plug a cord from your laptop into a tv to project it there
while you lie down with the laptop in your, er, lap :} ? :}
Varda Today at 5:30 PM
hmmm : )
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 5:30 PM
Better know how to type blind, then!
Varda Today at 5:30 PM
I can type blind and have often done so.
[5:30 PM]
Reading is tougher!
Eonwλ Valar Today at 5:30 PM
Hehe, I think I just gave Varda ideas for how to get more gaming
time in :}
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 5:30 PM
That's what the tv is for!
Varda Today at 5:31 PM
If I just do what I'm supposed to, I'll be better than ever when
it's all over. : )
[5:31 PM]
I am a bad patient sometimes.
[5:32 PM]
Namarie!
Eonwλ Valar Today at 5:32 PM
Heh, now thinking of some Auros stories that are still in draft
form... :}
Varda Today at 5:32 PM
Good! I want to read them. ; )
Eonwλ Valar Today at 5:33 PM
Sounds like you're trying to escape, so take care Varda :}
[5:34 PM]
Hopefully they reach publishable form sometime in the next decade,
lol :}
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 6:37 PM
Personal gaming report!
[6:37 PM]
For (non)flashgaming, I've got
https://www.kongregate.com/games/fizzd/a-dance-of-fire-and-ice for
you this week
Kongregate
A Dance of Fire and Ice
The second hardest one-button rhythm game you will ever play.
Updates:
5/12/18 After a lot of bug fixing, finally updated to WebGL! After
four years. Wow th...
[6:38 PM]
A rhythm game where you have to guide 2 orbs across a track of
tiles, according to the rhythm of the music as they orbit each
other. Simpler than I make it sound
[6:38 PM]
Calibrate for your mouseclicks or keypresses at the start, then
move to the beat, speeding up or slowing down on the corners.
[6:39 PM]
The X levels are the hardest on each world, I played it in the
last half hour or so and it took me an age to get past 1-X
and then got me stuck again on 2-X, but if you're better or more
persistent, go for it Heck, with enough practice, you'll be
able to do it with your eyes closed and just going by the music.
[6:41 PM]
I know rhythm games aren't for everyone, but it's simple and a bit
challenging for those who do like them I've always had a
decent sense of rhythm so I think I could get pretty far with
enough practice.
Sandalf13 Today at 6:42 PM
Hallo! My laptop is open, I am connected to the Internet,
i.e., the World, and am ready to go.
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 6:42 PM
3 worlds at that link, but there's more as a paid app or steam
game.
[6:42 PM]
Aiyata
[6:47 PM]
Blizzard gaming:
[6:49 PM]
Hearthstone: made it to 156 on the reward track, getting me to 600
total reward track levels for an achievement, where I could get
another tier 2 class skin. Chose the hunter skin, Dragonstalker
Rexxar.
[6:49 PM]
Also managed to complete the legendary quests, ending with the
Dwarven Duelist.
[6:51 PM]
And got enough gold to buy another card back! Chose Eyes of
C'thun, the one originally available from Whispers of the Old Gods
expansion pre-purchase. Still quite a few card backs to go for
gold, but getting there
[6:51 PM]
No new demon hunter levels this week, also as expected, now that
the honor grind is o ver.
[6:52 PM]
Brawl is Three Wishes, giving you a random deck for the class you
choose, and 3 wishes, you have to use a wish to get the next one
shuffled into your deck.
[6:54 PM]
While I often see people spend their wishes early to be able to
get later ones faster, personally I prefer to hold onto em a
little bit until I'm sure I can make use of it in the current
situation, even if it gives me a slightly slower next wish, though
with luck of the draw even that's unpredictable.
[6:55 PM]
For mercenaries, no new max levels, but leveled a whole bunch, and
got new mercs along the way!
[6:56 PM]
Mannoroth from coins gotten through bounties and tasks, Nefarian
from a mercenary pack which I got as a reward for Cornelius' nr 16
task, and enough Anduin coins from that same pack to complete
Anduin as well.
[6:56 PM]
With anduin complete, my next grind-bounty will be the first one
in Winterspring, where I hope to get Rexxar coins.
[6:57 PM]
Also from the pack a new mercenary skin for King Krush
[6:59 PM]
WoW: More raiding! Getting the first 7 bosses somewhat on farm,
including having to learn the Pantheon as tank. Making progress on
Anduin, as we're getting the intermissions down a lot better,
maxing out willpower, which means intermissions go well too. Two
attempts at phase 3, but we kinda need to learn the ropes there.
[6:59 PM]
Hoping to get him next week!
[7:00 PM]
Weekly is timewalks, which went smoothly, and got me a new
raid-trinket as reward. It'll do as dps trinket right now, though
the rune system it uses is a bit odd, and also gives
disadvantages. I'd prefer others from the raid.
[7:00 PM]
And I got my first setpiece, pants, from the weekly vault.
[7:02 PM]
Screwed up Torghast a bit with the unbridled darkness buff, not
even getting a high enough score on the first run to get to the
adamant vaults (just 197), but on the second run I figured out
zooming in on the minimap is key to survival, and made it to over
250 I should remember that for the next time it comes up!
[7:04 PM]
And finally, a wee bit of alting. Completed the world quests and
missions on my level 46 mage for her class campaign, and now
awaits the final scenario at the Oculus dungeon. After that I'll
continue towards the mount a bit until 48, but first I need to
find time for the scenario
[7:04 PM]
Oh, almost forgot 2 things...
[7:04 PM]
in my weekly old raiding, got the final pet from Throne of
Thunder, the Son of Animus! Next week we'll start going for the
Siege of Orgrimmar pets, of which I personally only need 1 more.
[7:05 PM]
And on the mage's world quests I had to kill some nightborne and
walked away with the secret artifact appearance for her fire
artifact, transforming the firey blade into a starry
constellation.
[7:06 PM]
Since she's fully fire-themed in appearance I'm not using it right
now, but it was a nice surprise to get!
[7:06 PM]
And that's my report for the week
Sandalf13 Today at 7:15 PM
You have been busy, I see.
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 7:15 PM
I have :)
Sandalf13 Today at 7:15 PM
But as my Father always said, it is better to be busy than not...
[7:16 PM]
Is Varda on the road to full recovery?
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 7:16 PM
I suppose, especially if it's something you enjoy.
Sandalf13 Today at 7:17 PM
I suppose that Eonwe and Varda have left the chat...
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 7:18 PM
They'll be back to check on us and catch up on the transcript, I'm
sure
[7:18 PM]
Maybe you'll be able to ask her then, or she'll add the answer
later, either for the transcript or you can read up next time
Sandalf13 Today at 7:19 PM
How are you doing, Ar? Have you enjoyed good health this past
week?
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 7:19 PM
Yep, I suppose I have! Started working out a bit again for the
first few times after covid, and apparently it hit me harder than
I thought, sneaky virus. But I'll catch up again.
Sandalf13 Today at 7:19 PM
Do you have a gym to go to, or do you work out at home?
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 7:20 PM
Independent training at not quite a gym, but the physical
therapist's place.
Sandalf13 Today at 7:21 PM
That sounds good. I am glad you are beginning your physical
training with some guidance. My family doctor, who is now retired
in the Denver area, but was our family physician for over 30
years, recently told me the key to success with weight training is
lots of reps with low weights, especially at first. I tend to jump
in whole hog, with disastrous results.
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 7:22 PM
I don't do much weight training, it's mostly cardio and endurance.
Sandalf13 Today at 7:22 PM
That sounds wonderful too. I run 3-4 miles every day, and also
ride my bike and lift weights. I hope to add swimming once again
soon.
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 7:22 PM
Ah, nice
[7:23 PM]
You're definitely doing more than I am.
Sandalf13 Today at 7:23 PM
The endurance and cardio will really add to your basal metabolism
and overall health.
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 7:23 PM
I know, been doing it for years.
[7:23 PM]
It was just a bit of a setback with the covid.
Sandalf13 Today at 7:23 PM
Good for you! I am sorry to hear that the Covid took such a toll
on you.
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 7:23 PM
Indeed
Sandalf13 Today at 7:24 PM
Whatever you do, keep at it, and keep your head up! My 2nd German
host-son always gives me a German expression for something like
"keep your head up,!" but I forget what it is on a moments'
notice.
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 7:25 PM
hehe
[7:25 PM]
Yes, keeping at it is the key. I never actually look forward to
doing it, but I do it when I can.
Sandalf13 Today at 7:26 PM
That is the spirit! One must often force themselves to work at
physical fitness, but I assure you, after a while, it becomes so
much a part of your life that you immediately miss it, even after
one day. I hope you reach that stage soon!
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 7:26 PM
Hmm, I'd have thought I'd be there already.
[7:26 PM]
Maybe that's not for me. Maybe laziness is in my nature
Sandalf13 Today at 7:26 PM
It takes A LOT of time....I am talking months to years...
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 7:27 PM
I think I'm at.. 3 or 4 years now.
[7:27 PM]
Twice a week.
Sandalf13 Today at 7:27 PM
No no! Do not think like that! Our bodies were meant to be
used...if we fail to do that, we are not adequately taking care of
ourselves, as we are meant to.
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 7:28 PM
Oh, I know, hence the me going anyway
Sandalf13 Today at 7:28 PM
Pardon me if I sound too didactic. It is a habit of the old, as
Gandalf says,...
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 7:28 PM
I'm just not really the type to enjoy doing it, and I don't miss
it when I don't for some reason.
Sandalf13 Today at 7:28 PM
I often give advice where it is not needed nor appreciated....so I
apologize if I sound like that to you.
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 7:28 PM
Nah, it's fine. I can always choose to not heed it
Sandalf13 Today at 7:29 PM
Of course you can...and you should, as you see fit!
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 7:29 PM
That's the spirit
Sandalf13 Today at 7:29 PM
May I tell you about my travails with Chapter 3? The Geology of
Middle-earth?
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 7:29 PM
You mentioned it earlier, didn't you/
[7:29 PM]
?
[7:30 PM]
Or is there more to it?
Sandalf13 Today at 7:32 PM
I did report to the group that my brand new laptop required a
factory reset....it picked up a glitch from a Windows update that
kept my camera from connecting with the internet world at large.
In any case, that set me back about three days of work. I have
finally gotten all the geologic "facts" from LoTR and The Hobbit
in the text, along with some meteorological data, and am ready to
do the recreation of the geologic history of M.E. a la Plate
Tectonics...what geologists call "arm-waving." The problem is that
there are so FEW real geologic facts in the text. I really had to
dig back into my old thoughts about Rare Earth Elements,
hydrothermal deposits, and pegmatites...and igneous petrology.
Dammit Jim, I am a geologist, not a mindreader! he he
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 7:33 PM
Ooh, sounds like a very indepth (pun not intended) study was
needed!
Sandalf13 Today at 7:33 PM
I mean in terms of mindreading what Tolkien thought - or might not
have thought - about the geology of M.E.
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 7:34 PM
Tolkien had gods changing the landscape, including a rectangled
mountain range. I'm not sure he really had geology in mind, at
least more than the surface. But if you managed to make sense of
it, that's impressive, and I can't help but wonder if somewhat
coincidental
[7:35 PM]
Or accidental, I should say.
Sandalf13 Today at 7:35 PM
I hope that you like the text when it is finished. I need to
communicate with Varda and see where we are in the process of
posting my completed chapters. I am doing this for the good of the
cause, not to make money. I suppose I could have tried to get a
publisher to publish my book, but as a geologist who has edited
MANY geologic papers and books, I recognize that my writing is too
long for a publication.
[7:35 PM]
BTW - you hit the nail on the head with your comment about a
rectangular mountain range! There are several examples of this in
M.E. as per the LoTR map. This is not realistic, geologically
speaking.
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 7:35 PM
Well, and you might get into trouble with the Tolkien heirs
anyway, unless you manage to strike a deal, if you were to try and
sell it.
[7:36 PM]
Exactly
Sandalf13 Today at 7:37 PM
Of course. That is one reason I am sticking to public domain type
publishing...My great dream is to have enough people read my work
that I get invited to a Tolkien symposium some day and can talk
about it....that is all that I want from my efforts, and the joy
of seeing the dedications for each of the chapters "out there." I
believe you will enjoy the dedications as well as the text, I
hope.
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 7:37 PM
Probably :)
Sandalf13 Today at 7:39 PM
Well...I will be in touch with Varda this week via E-Mail to check
on the status of uploading the chapters that I have already sent
her. I intend to send Chapter Three to a couple of fellow
professional geologists to take a look at my work. I am not
seeking an imprimatur, but I do want to ensure that whatever I
have written at least makes sense geologically.
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 7:39 PM
Indeed.
[7:39 PM]
And I should be going to bed
Sandalf13 Today at 7:40 PM
You should! Keep up with your physical training, take time to
smell the roses, and stay healthy, as always! Sei gesund!
[7:40 PM]
Namarie!
Ar-Pharazon-V Today at 7:40 PM
Namarie!
