Before-meeting

Sandalf13 — Today at 3:38 PM
Hallo All! We had snow on Thursday morning, and today is almost 70 degrees F. We expect rain starting Tuesday, ending with snow on Thursday. Life is interesting, shall we say. I am at the Telegraph Mill, enjoying a cooling cup of Granita...sort of like a frozen slush, but flavored with slightly sweetened coffee and espresso. Very tasty!

Varda — Today at 3:39 PM
yay sort of coffe!!
[3:39 PM]
Weather's been up and down here too, temp and rain

Sandalf13 — Today at 3:40 PM
As we wait for the meeting to begin, I am continuing my work on the Geology of Middle-earth, and am busy writing up the location of Dwarven mining projects as mentioned in The Hobbit and the LoTR as a reference point for establishing the locations of iron mining districts within Arda.

Sandalf13 — Today at 3:55 PM
Are you waiting too, Arien?

Varda — Today at 4:01 PM
Aiya

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:01 PM
Aiya!!

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:01 PM
Aiya!

Varda — Today at 4:01 PM
The gang tends to wait by gaming. : )

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:01 PM
Not me...I wait by writing.

Varda — Today at 4:01 PM
Sandalf and Phar, aiya : )

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:01 PM
Yup, we've been fighting Anduin himself :)
[4:02 PM]

Varda — Today at 4:02 PM

[4:02 PM]
I tend to get meeting notes ready if not done yet.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:02 PM
Heya.

Varda — Today at 4:02 PM

[4:03 PM]

[4:03 PM]
I shall go flop back down again but will come back and forth to see Discord. : )

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:03 PM

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:08 PM
Romendacil

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:08 PM
Romendacil.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:08 PM
For member news, I spent one more covid week at home, but I think it's over now

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:08 PM
Are you feeling better?

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:09 PM
Yep. Had some throat and nose issues still throughout the week but feeling a lot better today.
[4:09 PM]
Guess it's back to work on tuesday

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:09 PM
Wunderbar!
[4:09 PM]
:)

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:10 PM
Glad you're doing better Phar, and aye, guess that means work is near... watches out for flying tomatoes

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:11 PM
Not sure where you work, but for me flying tomatoes are not a common hazard.

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:11 PM
What about the flying tomato fight held in Spain annually?

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:12 PM
(Referring to [Ph]ar and near :} I assumed the joke was Phar from funny :})

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:12 PM
...totally missed that one

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:13 PM
Doing better by Phar? :}

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:13 PM
It is NOT tomato season in Nebraska...

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:13 PM
hehe

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:14 PM
It's the rain in Spain that stays mainly on the plain. I think the flying tomatoes stay mainly in Italy.

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:14 PM
Roma Tomatoes make the BEST tomato paste...

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:15 PM
Anyway, Any other Membership news? :}

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:16 PM
Fladrif spotted in Hearthstone, and observed for a quest

[4:29 PM]
Looks neat!

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:30 PM
I tried the demo. A little disappointed that the camera is locked into one angle with very little wiggle room (literally just a bit of wiggle to left or right) but the gameplay itself is fun.
[4:32 PM]

Tolkien:

[4:32 PM]
Any Tolkien topics anyone has, or shall I make up something on the spot?
[4:34 PM]
Ok, you asked for it. Here's mine then, with no wind-up or context :}

Shelob — Today at 4:34 PM
Oh right. DST and stuff.
[4:34 PM]
Aiya!

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:34 PM
Aiya

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:34 PM
Heya Shelob.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:34 PM
Next week it'll be normal again, Shel!

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:34 PM
Aiya Shelob!
[4:35 PM]
My youngest daughter has the actual name of "Shira," and one of her nicknames is "She." Thought you might like to know, Shelob.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:36 PM
I'm staying a breath away from "Shelly".

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:36 PM
Did you know that the "Small Shelly Period" was a real period of time before the explosion of life in the Cambrian, in which the only recovered fossils are "small, shelly critters."

Shelob — Today at 4:37 PM
I might be a female version of a mix between Leonard and Sheldon, but don't call me shelly.
[4:38 PM]
Besides, I'm a spider, not a turtle.

Ioreth — Today at 4:38 PM
There is a nice little in-game meeting on the Simm on Saturdays on Landroval. Since it has been a long time since I read it and I no longer have a copy I just sit and listen. I'm learning some, wish my memory worked better.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:38 PM
So Trotter, before he woke up one day and realized he was a Dunadan and not a Hobbit with wooden feet, still sounded pretty enthused when he was telling the story of Beren and Luthien.

@Sandalf13
My youngest daughter has the actual name of "Shira," and one of her nicknames is "She." Thought you might like to know, Shelob.
Shelob — Today at 4:38 PM
That's a beautiful name Sandalf!

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:39 PM
Yes...but the spiders are members of the Chelicerata, one of the four great groups of the Arthropods, the others being the Crustaceans and the Insectivora. The Trilobites are, unfortunately, extinct. So spiders (sort of) are related to the small shelly creatures, as they are directly descended from (some) of them.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:40 PM
I could call you Lobby if you insist on lobbying against Shelly!

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:40 PM
That sounds like a lobster.

Arien  Valar — Today at 4:41 PM
aiya all

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:41 PM
Aiya!

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:42 PM
Heya Arien.

Shelob — Today at 4:42 PM
I'm neither lobster nor a crustacean. I'm an Arachnid. And on the top of the Arachnid food chain I might add.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:42 PM
Spidey?

Arien  Valar — Today at 4:42 PM
sorry forgot daylight saving again

Shelob — Today at 4:42 PM
Spidey is fine.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:43 PM
That'll work

Ioreth — Today at 4:44 PM
Here's the announcement for that meeting:  (I'm looking for their website so you can see the weekly homework assignments)
<quote>Leaves of Laurelin kinship is sponsoring a book club to read and discuss The Silmarillion. We meet on Saturdays at 8 pm server time (EST), in the Hall of Fire in Elrond's house.</quote>

Arien  Valar — Today at 4:44 PM

Ioreth — Today at 4:48 PM
Varda came to it about a week ago. She liked it and thanked me for mentioning it. How is she doing? When is she coming back?

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:49 PM
She was here at the beginning of the meeting.

Ioreth — Today at 4:50 PM
aw, sorry I missed her. I was trying to take a picture of a chicken when the alarm went off for the meeting.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:51 PM
She may drop back in, just can't sit at the computer for too long right now it would seem.

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:51 PM
I am watching the video that Ioreth put up...wow.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:51 PM
Chickpics come first!

Arien  Valar — Today at 4:52 PM
what happenened to Varda?

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:53 PM
She mentioned last week she was having a surgery this past Friday. She's recovering :}

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:53 PM
OMG! I did not know...I hope she recovers swiftly and surely. Please send her my regards if you see her gaming, I shall try to leave a message.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:54 PM
From last week:
I may be unable to attend next Sunday, but don't know yet. Surgery Friday.
And I need to go take care of five hungry people now. : )
Sandalf13 — 03/13/2022
Hope it is just routie.
Ar-Pharazon-V — 03/13/2022
oh, good luck!
Varda — 03/13/2022
Thanks
Sandalf13 — 03/13/2022
routine. Sorry.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:54 PM
She's home, but can't sit at the pc too long because of it.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:55 PM
She was here long enough to say hi pass the gavel to me, so she seems to be doing fine for the most part :}

Ioreth — Today at 4:56 PM
Sounds like what I had. I'm looking at one more surgery but I seem to have a chair I can sit in just fine.

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:56 PM
Thank you for the reminder. I did not realize that it would be such a painful recovery.

Arien  Valar — Today at 4:57 PM
I hope she ll get well soon  or heal up soon .. but from experience I know ithe recovery can be more painful than the actual surgery or injury
[4:57 PM]
so all the best from here

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:58 PM
:}

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:58 PM
Speaking of, appointment's been made for the wisdom teeth, mid-july
[4:58 PM]
I'm trying not to think about it

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:58 PM
Good luck.

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:58 PM
Wisdom teeth are not too bad...do one at a time, maybe?

@Arien  Valar — Today at 4:57 PM
I hope she ll get well soon  or heal up soon .. but from experience I know ithe recovery can be more painful than the actual surgery or injury
Ioreth — Today at 4:58 PM
Definately

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:59 PM
Yes, that's what you suggested the first time I brought it up, Sandalf, but I'd rather just get it over with

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:59 PM
Make sure that they give you a good supply of pain pills...

Ioreth — Today at 4:59 PM
I'm on a colonoscopy trip. If you are older than  45 or black, get one.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:59 PM
Hmm, pain pills would be nice.

Sandalf13 — Today at 5:00 PM
I have had two..one at age 58 and one at age 68. I did both without a sedative. I got to see the pictures! I will never forget the doctor saying to me..."Hey look! There is your appendix!" Never thought I would see that from the inside.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:00 PM
I had one of those about 8 years ago, Ioreth, because of my troubles. But they couldn't find anything. Pretty sure it's a mechanical problem.
[5:00 PM]
And I did it with sedative
[5:01 PM]
Can't even remember it. Woke up on a temporary bed.

Sandalf13 — Today at 5:01 PM
Good for you, Ar!  I am glad that the results were negative.

Ioreth — Today at 5:01 PM
I got to stay awake for my last one. I got it at a university hospital so the doctor was more than happy to give a guided tour!

Sandalf13 — Today at 5:01 PM
Exciting, isn't it?

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:01 PM
Well, negative's not always a good thing (hah!), as it didn't find any cause for my problems.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:02 PM
Well I think it's safe to declare Aftermeeting at this point :}

Ioreth — Today at 5:02 PM
well, kinda. But I'd rather that then sedative.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:02 PM
...I was still waiting for you to continue on the topic, Eonwe

Ioreth — Today at 5:02 PM
yeh, did you decide where we were going?

Sandalf13 — Today at 5:02 PM
Yes...but don't forget that the primary purpose of a colonoscopy is to look for cancer....if you get a negative result for that, wonderful...

Varda — Today at 5:03 PM
Hiya
[5:03 PM]
No topic?

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:03 PM
Well, yes, okay, but in my case it was really about trying to find out what was wrong, so if we'd found some blockage at least it'd have been for something.

Sandalf13 — Today at 5:03 PM
Hope that you feek better soon, Varda!

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:04 PM
That was my topic, "without windup or context", hehe.

Varda — Today at 5:04 PM
Sounds like everyone has troubles. Mine is just one among the many. : )

Sandalf13 — Today at 5:04 PM
Is that not part of life, in general?

Varda — Today at 5:04 PM
yep : )
[5:04 PM]
How about flying as a topic?

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:04 PM
And since the conversation went to other matters, I figured everyone was caught up with rightfully bigger discussions, heh.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:05 PM
thinks about flying and holds back balrog wings

Varda — Today at 5:05 PM
The Ainur on Arda could fly at first.
[5:05 PM]
but then something big happened.
[5:06 PM]
And only the Valar Manwe and Varda and their Maiar could fly.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:06 PM
For those who missed it, my topic was: "So Trotter, before he woke up one day and realized he was a Dunadan and not a Hobbit with wooden feet, still sounded pretty enthused when he was telling the story of Beren and Luthien."
But please, feel free to pick a more engaging topic :}

Varda — Today at 5:06 PM
Balrogs were Maiar too, so they could have been able to fly at first.
[5:06 PM]
Ahh, thanks : )

Ioreth — Today at 5:06 PM
(so there is a lore that we could have flying mounts in game!)

Varda — Today at 5:06 PM
Trotter, the early Aragorn, heh.
[5:06 PM]
Not really, since the game is during the War of the Ring.

Sandalf13 — Today at 5:06 PM
Yes, Good thing Tolkien changed him into Aragorn.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:07 PM
Well, unless we're talking eagles or other birds, are you suggesting training Ainur as mounts?

Varda — Today at 5:07 PM
However, they do have a few spots with eagles that fly you for a special mission. : )
[5:07 PM]
Like Gwaihir, I refuse. : )

Ioreth — Today at 5:07 PM
just something. I have flying in my other games and miss it - and I'm always getting lost

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:07 PM
Pch. In Guild Wars you can't even jump.

Varda — Today at 5:07 PM
We have lots of stables though. A few of them are eagle stables.
[5:08 PM]
heh, no jumping? gak

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:08 PM
Nope, gotta run along paths to get up ridges etc

Varda — Today at 5:08 PM
Anyway, does anyone remember why  a lot of Ainur lost the flying ability?
[5:08 PM]
You need a zip line or grappling hook, Phar.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:08 PM
Probably by linking themselves to Arda and focusing on non-airy elements, I'd guess.

Varda — Today at 5:09 PM
Manwe and Varda linked to Arda, but kept flying.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:09 PM
As for Trotter.... I wonder what the tale would have looked like if he remained Trotter.

Varda — Today at 5:09 PM
I see your point about airy topics.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:09 PM
I bet Boromir would've listened even less!

Varda — Today at 5:09 PM
Trotter woudl have been a hobbit, so a huge  chunk of story would disappear.

Sandalf13 — Today at 5:09 PM
I do not think that Trotter's wooden feet would have sounded good treading the rock floors of Gondor...

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:10 PM
"Gandalf, is this the one you've brought to supplant me? He can't even reach the seat of the throne!"

Sandalf13 — Today at 5:10 PM
After all, according to Ghan-buri-ghan, the Numernoreans ate stone for food

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:11 PM
I'm pretty sure the subject of losing the ability to fly didn't come up in the Sil, just in versions of the tales in HoME.

Sandalf13 — Today at 5:12 PM
I think you are right, Eonwe. When the topic first came up, I was trying to recall my reading of the Sil, and could not remember any references to the Valar and the Maiar flying...

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:12 PM
There's part of the tale at least as far as Eregion (that I've read) where Trotter was still Trotter.

Sandalf13 — Today at 5:12 PM
\

Varda — Today at 5:12 PM
Anyway, since Olorin worked for several Valar as a Maia, wasn't one Varda? He may have been able to fly.

Sandalf13 — Today at 5:12 PM
Isn't that in the History of Middle-earth, and NOT the Sil, UT, or LoTR?

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:13 PM
Now I'm thinking of making a gnome survival hunter called Trotter...

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:13 PM
The Trotter stuff is from HoME VI: Return of the Shadow. That's where I'm perusing right now, soon to move on to HoME VII.

Varda — Today at 5:13 PM
One part of the reason for flying loss was for those that used their power for harm. Morgoth's folk lost flying for that reason.

Sandalf13 — Today at 5:13 PM
I have always thought that when Tolkien replaced Trotter with Aragorn (nee Estel), he began to think how he could use Aragorn and his life to express some of his deeply-held beliefs.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:16 PM
On flight: BoLT, if memory serves as well as it should, says that the Ainur were bound to go no higher than the Second Air. Manwë alone was permitted into the higher edges of the Second Air/lower edges of the Third.
[5:17 PM]
Some of his spirits were allowed almost as high. Again, going by memory here.

Varda — Today at 5:18 PM
back later, I hope

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:18 PM
Take care Varda.

Arien  Valar — Today at 5:18 PM
take care hugs]

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:18 PM
I can't get to my books without a bit of a struggle right now.

Sandalf13 — Today at 5:18 PM
Feel better, Varda!

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:21 PM
Namarie Varda!

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:21 PM

Tolkien narrates the Ride of the Rohirrim

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:22 PM
Where does that leave sun and moon, Eonwe? I don't recall if they were spirits of Manwe, nor how high they sailed.

Sandalf13 — Today at 5:23 PM
I hope all of you have a wonderful week ahead! Namarie, all. I will check in again after  I get back online after dinner. Time to bike home while the day is still so bright and pleasant...

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:23 PM
They were in the Second Air, Ilmen, in the lower regions.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:23 PM
Ah.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:24 PM
Ride now! Ride now! Ride to Gondor!
[5:25 PM]

Aftermeeting:

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:25 PM
A sword day, a red day, ere the sun rises

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:26 PM
:}
[5:29 PM]
Tilion in the Sil was a Maia of Oromë. Arien doesn't seem to say who she served, but she tended to gardens of Vana, so probably a Maia of Vana.

Arien  Valar — Today at 5:30 PM
dramatic

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:30 PM
I suppose they would have needed to the ability to fly on their own, as long as their vessels were capable of it.

Arien  Valar — Today at 5:30 PM
i ve got to translate Rohirrim from Feuerschwanz and post it to you

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:30 PM
Still, it prevents the risk of falling off...
[5:30 PM]
*would not have

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:34 PM
Well, "fly" might be relative for spirits.

Arien  Valar — Today at 5:36 PM
we know of Arien that "she was a maiden who in the days of the Trees tended the Golden Flowers in the ganrden of Vana"

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:36 PM
Balrogs are very much putting their power in their physical forms, like Morgoth. More bound to the rules of the natural world. Sauron had no problem coming away from Numenor's wrack all the way back to Mordor.

Arien  Valar — Today at 5:36 PM
and that" she was mightier than Tilpion*
[5:37 PM]
err Tilion sorry there

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:37 PM
She was "in the beginning a spirit of fire."

Arien  Valar — Today at 5:37 PM
aye mayabe one of Tulkas lot?

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:39 PM
The implication I drew is that whatever lot the Balrogs came from before their corruption, that's where she also came from. She didn't fall for Melkor's lies.

Arien  Valar — Today at 5:39 PM
aye

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:41 PM
So Arien is an uncorrupted Balrog. I like it

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:41 PM
lol
[5:42 PM]
Sadly, unless I'm missing something in HoME I - V, it doesn't seem she was interested in either Tilion (when his interest was deemed romantic rather than rivalry)(In the Sil it doesn't seem to mention either way) or Fionwë. Never really thought about all the unrequitted love in these stories until LotRO piled a bunch of it all in one place and made me play through it, hehehehe.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:44 PM
Must be even worse for Ainur than for humans, if it can last for countless millennia.

Varda — Today at 5:44 PM
Beats Poe who thought the most beautiful and sad topic was the death of a beautiful woman. Unrequited means at least still living.
[5:44 PM]
Good point, Phar

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:45 PM
Maybe once I get past the LotR books, there's something there I've missed in the past, but I don't think I missed anything in the prior books.

Varda — Today at 5:46 PM
Sorry, missed what?

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:46 PM
Missed Arien expressing interest in either Tilion or Fionwë.

Varda — Today at 5:46 PM
Oh, no. Arien never seemed interested in Tilion or Fionwe or any guy.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:46 PM
Talking about HoME.

Varda — Today at 5:46 PM
Guess she was more into her work.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:47 PM
That's what happens when you focus on your career.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:47 PM
Pretty much. Sad fate for anyone though, but such is real life too. Doesn't mean I have to like it, heh.

Varda — Today at 5:49 PM
The dwarves had a similar problem. The women were few, would fixate on just one male and none other if he were unavailable, and quite a few were into just work. Good way for a species to die out.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:50 PM
And yet they did multiply for a good while.
[5:50 PM]
Large litters perhaps?

Varda — Today at 5:51 PM
Hmm, don't know. Would be interesting. How many siblings did Gimli have? : )
[5:52 PM]
We only hear about ones that affect the story line.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:52 PM
The family tree we have does not mention large amounts of siblings, but it might just be the notable ones.
[5:53 PM]
Or families grew smaller in later ages, which would lead to a decline.
[5:54 PM]
Heh, such things always remind me of two tribes mentioned in the manual to Total Annihilation: Kingdoms.
[5:55 PM]
Two tribes that hated each other so much, the only way to be considered a man would be to bring home a head from the other tribe.
It said that only their women's exceptional fertility kept the two tribes from dying out.
[5:58 PM]
There was some very nice lore in that manual, most of it completely irrelevant to the game

Varda — Today at 5:58 PM
They'd need it.
[5:58 PM]
hah : )

Arien  Valar — Today at 6:02 PM
Gimli Gloin s son .. none mentioned I think but that doesn t mean he didn' t have any

Varda — Today at 6:02 PM
Aye

Ioreth — Today at 6:07 PM
There was one of the Dwarf rulers in game that I always thought was a "him" and lately I heard someone call a "her". But the game text says "he", I'm confused

Varda — Today at 6:13 PM
Dis is the only female they mentioned in the book

Eonwë Valar — Today at 6:13 PM
I would go by game text unless given extremely good reason to do otherwise.

Varda — Today at 6:13 PM
In game, they recently started doing more female dwarves, you can hear the voice.
[6:13 PM]
Aye, game text trumps.

Ioreth — Today at 6:16 PM
I notice that you can choose a gender in a stout axe, unless I read that wrong

Varda — Today at 6:16 PM
I need to leave a it
[6:16 PM]
and that's right, Ioreth. Only Longbeards the originals are no gender mentioned because can't tell apart.
[6:17 PM]
People griped so they got it.

Ioreth — Today at 6:18 PM
I like having the gender, it bothers me that I know someone is playing a female dwarf and the game emotes and other announcement call it a "he". With the stout axes at least it should get the gender correct in the text
[6:19 PM]
It helps when the players dress typical of the gender, right now I am looking at a Dwarf named, "Gerdetta" - sure sounds like it should be a girl
[6:20 PM]
But s/he is wearing the starter clothes which is bigender

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 6:21 PM
https://worldofwarcraft.com/en-gb/character/eu/argent-dawn/calmoria my female dwarf!
World of Warcraft
Calmoria - Character - WoW
Calmoria (Argent Dawn) ❮The High Guard❯ - 11 Dark Iron Dwarf Elemental Shaman, 8 ilvl

Ioreth — Today at 6:21 PM
I think that female Dwarves should look a little like female Knomes.
[6:22 PM]
I got excited when they released the Dark Irons and I saw their hair, it is cool.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 6:23 PM
glowy at the tips

Sandalf13 — Today at 6:23 PM
Hallo! May I rejoin the Group?

Eonwë Valar — Today at 6:23 PM
Funnily enough, sure, for languages where an "a" ending indicates female. As I recall, Tolkien actually says he adjusted some Hobbit names to be -o endings for that reason, i.e., "Frodo" should be "Froda" in the actual Hobbit spelling.
Female Dwarves are supposed to be so like to male Dwarves that they've virtually impossible to tell apart for anyone but other Dwarves.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 6:23 PM
Frodo was called Maura in the "original" Westron.

Varda — Today at 6:23 PM
Sure Sandalf : )

Sandalf13 — Today at 6:23 PM
Thanks!

Varda — Today at 6:24 PM
Froda was correct as the actual peaceful ruler in real life

Eonwë Valar — Today at 6:24 PM
Thanks Phar :} Point still stands :}

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 6:24 PM
Indeed

Varda — Today at 6:24 PM
and aye, Phar. Fun with name.s
[6:24 PM]
and my copy of Nature of Middle-earth came in!
[6:25 PM]
Going back and forth

Eonwë Valar — Today at 6:25 PM
That's what happens when my books are trapped where I can't get them, heh.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 6:25 PM
Grats Varda!

Varda — Today at 6:25 PM
Eowyn on the side chat reminds me that Discord can be used on the phone : )
[6:25 PM]
Cenedra, thanks. : )
[6:26 PM]
Guess I'd better figure how to download it heh

Eonwë Valar — Today at 6:26 PM
Because we all need Melkor's Theme on our phones, heh.

Varda — Today at 6:26 PM
Don't let your books be trapped! I dragged mine down here when making a new office ahead of surgery. Books can't get away!

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 6:26 PM
I remember Maura because I named my 3 Marsuul pets from Legion after Westron hobbits. Maura, Razanur and Kalimac.

Varda — Today at 6:26 PM
Melkor would like that, Eonwe
[6:26 PM]
Well done : )

Eonwë Valar — Today at 6:27 PM
Indeed he would and does.... ;}
[6:31 PM]
Re: Female Dwarves comment above -- I should probably say to be clear, so alike to male Dwarves in clothing, voice, and the phyisical appearance the average person is going to see.  As I recall, the quote from LotR mentions specifically clothing when travelling, so the implication is they dress differently inside their own mountain homes.

Ioreth — Today at 6:34 PM
ah, I didn't think of that.
[6:34 PM]
women in the old days pretended to be guys to ward off problems - they still do in some situatons
[6:34 PM]
easier to be treated as equal if you dress as an equal

Arien  Valar — Today at 6:50 PM
sure it is also a trick in mmos or well a safety measure for some

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 6:55 PM
Even Shakespeare used it in Twelfth Night

Sandalf13 — Today at 6:58 PM
And Eowyn rode to the Battle of the Pelennor Fields dressed as a man.

Arien  Valar — Today at 6:58 PM
right .. bed time for me i fear

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 6:58 PM
Aw, namarie

Sandalf13 — Today at 6:58 PM
Namarie, Arien!

Arien  Valar — Today at 6:58 PM
Take it slowly Varda and speedy recovery
[6:59 PM]
Namarie , Sandalf, Phari,  Shelob , Ioreth , Eonwe and Varda

Sandalf13 — Today at 7:27 PM
Are we still here?

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 7:27 PM
I am.

Sandalf13 — Today at 7:28 PM
Hello Ar! How are you?

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 7:28 PM
Good
[7:28 PM]
You?

Sandalf13 — Today at 7:28 PM
I am glad to hear that.
[7:29 PM]
I am well, thanks... not bad for an old guy. I got my four mile run in today, and rode my bike in the morning and afternoon. It was nearly 70 degrees F here today. We had snow Thursday morning, now it is 70, and we will have snow again later this week. March on the Great Plains is always an adventure.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 7:29 PM
Indeed! But keeping busy I see.

Sandalf13 — Today at 7:30 PM
As usual. Please forgive me, but I forgot...when is your upcoming wisdom tooth (teeth) extravaganza?

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 7:30 PM
Mid-July.

Sandalf13 — Today at 7:31 PM
so you have time to mentally (and physically!) prepare yourself....very good.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 7:31 PM
Eheh, or stress myself out.

Ioreth — Today at 7:31 PM
Namarie

Sandalf13 — Today at 7:31 PM
Don't do that! Wisdom tooth removal is fairly routine!
[7:31 PM]
Namarie, Ioreth!  Nice to finally meet (sort of) you!

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 7:31 PM
Not for me
[7:31 PM]
Namarie Ioreth!
[7:32 PM]
Really, I try not to think about it, which usually works

Ioreth — Today at 7:33 PM
I had 4 done at once and two of them were coming in from the back of my jaw and two were trying to go under the teeth ahead of them. I lived! My only complaint was my mom didn't know what PRN meant and she was forcing me to take the pain pills whether I wanted to or not. Boyfriend the EMT convinced her to leave me alone and let me sleep it off.

Sandalf13 — Today at 7:34 PM
You know yourself best, Ar, so I apologize for making suggestions...you do what you need to do.
[7:34 PM]
Four at once? My two lower wisdom teeth were pulled one at a time, but that was back in the very early 1970s.....no doubt the procedures have improved since then.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 7:35 PM
Would be nice

Sandalf13 — Today at 7:37 PM
Do you have the chance to enjoy some good local coffee shops in the NL, Ar?

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 7:37 PM
I don't drink coffee, actually.

Sandalf13 — Today at 7:37 PM
Tea?

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 7:37 PM
Yep. But in my town it's usually just drinking tea at home
[7:37 PM]
I know in Amsterdam there's a lot of that stuff, though.

Sandalf13 — Today at 7:37 PM
Do you have a preferred variety of tea?/

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 7:38 PM
Hard to say. I tend to try out every tea I come across, and I love to switch things up. I suppose Earl Grey stands out a bit.

Sandalf13 — Today at 7:38 PM
That is indeed a great standard...I like it too.
[7:39 PM]
I also enjoy English Breakfast Tea.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 7:39 PM
Hmm, that's our default standard. I usually have that with milk.

Sandalf13 — Today at 7:40 PM
Good for you. BTW - Earl Grey tea...what a wonderful English name. the modern "Earl" is descended from the Old English "Eorl," which is also the name of "Eorl the Young," former leader of Rohan.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 7:40 PM
Well, it was named after a British Earl

Sandalf13 — Today at 7:41 PM
Indeed. I wonder if there are any Greys left...

Varda — Today at 7:41 PM
Jean Grey?  ; )  Pardon, heh

Sandalf13 — Today at 7:41 PM
he he.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 7:41 PM
I'd assume so. Descendants here and there.

Varda — Today at 7:42 PM
Slipped past the computer just now. Good to see you still having fun chat. : )

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 7:42 PM
Aiyata

Varda — Today at 7:42 PM
Yo : )
[7:42 PM]
Hantal
[7:43 PM]
skipping out again, but you know I'll read up!

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 7:43 PM
Of course!

Sandalf13 — Today at 7:43 PM
Yes we are. Hope you are well! I Am working  VERY hard on Chp 3, but had a setback this past week. My BRAND NEW LAPTOP had some issues and required a factory reset by Lenovo. I THOUGHT that I had saved about 8 hours of work on Chp 3, but failed to realize that I had not saved the additions...so they were lost. I am just finishing up recreating the losses and getting on to the final recapitulation.

Ioreth: cry emote

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 7:44 PM
Oof.

Sandalf13 — Today at 7:44 PM
You betcha, Digger!

Varda — Today at 7:44 PM
ack!
[7:44 PM]
8 hours. /headdesk

Sandalf13 — Today at 7:44 PM
Anyway...if that is the worst thing to happen this month, then I got off easy.

Varda — Today at 7:44 PM
Goood point

Sandalf13 — Today at 7:45 PM
I think that you folks will enjoy my discussion of geology...it is written for non-geologists, so I simplify some things, but I am asking my geological reviewers to take that into account.
[7:49 PM]
OOPS! They are blinking the lights in the Eiseley Branch Library! BTW - the library is named for Loren Eiseley, a biologist and early ecologist...a native of Lincoln. I have about 10 minutes left.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 7:49 PM
Better wrap up your work then before they pull the plug ;)

Sandalf13 — Today at 7:50 PM
Yes. Please let me wish you and Varda a wonderful week. Stay in touch! II look forward to "seeing" you again next Sunday!

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 7:50 PM
Same, namarie :)

Sandalf13 — Today at 7:50 PM
NAmarie!!! :)

@Sandalf13
Yes we are. Hope you are well! I Am working  VERY hard on Chp 3, but had a setback this past week. My BRAND NEW LAPTOP had some issues and required a factory reset by Lenovo. Ioreth — Today at 7:51 PM
Ouch. I think I have my books backed up in four places, but I haven't touched them in years.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 8:06 PM
Perrrrrsonal gaming report!
[8:07 PM]
For (non)flashgaming, here's https://www.kongregate.com/games/KekGames/unpuzzle
Kongregate
Unpuzzle
Clear levels piece by piece.

[8:08 PM]
One of my favorite puzzle series on the site, which I'll probably link many times more, the unpuzzle series of which this is the first has you disassembling a jigsaw puzzle one piece at a time. Additional mechanics like links and directional arrows are introduced as you go!

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 8:22 PM
Blizzard gaming:
[8:24 PM]
Hearthstone:
Made it to rank 148 on the reward track :)  Got me enough gold to buy a new card back too, and chose the Grand Tournament card back previously granted for pre-purchasing that expansion some years ago.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 8:42 PM
Expansion has been announced, but the honor grind is still going a little bit longer, and I completed it this week! Made it to Grand Marshal, getting me the golden Drek'thar legendary card, as well as an achievement which allowed me to choose another tier 1 reward track hero skin. For which I chose Thrall's Earthfury skin.
[8:43 PM]
So from now on I can take it easy again, no longer spending 2 hours a night trying to get honor :P
[8:44 PM]
There's a legendary questline going on around Brann, for which you need to bounce around the many game modes, including battlegrounds and duels which I usually never do, but for these portrait rewards it's worth it  :) So did that battleground today, and the duels will be next week.
[8:50 PM]
Oh and I indeed got the Demon Hunter from 55 to 57, as expected. But since I can play less now, the last 3 levels will take a while longer :)
[8:51 PM]
Oh, and got another legendary, Blademaster Okami, free for logging in after the expansion announcement. WoW players might recognize him from the Nazjatar zone in the previous expansion :)
[8:53 PM]
Brawl is Party Portals, taking place in Karazhan where everybody gets a deck full of various minion-summoning portals. Randomness abound, but got lucky
[8:54 PM]
For mercenaries, plenty more tasks and levels gained! Leveled a variety of mercs, including Cairne Bloodhoof for whom I had enough coins this week, and Trigore the hydra which hit level 30!
[8:56 PM]
WoW:
[8:58 PM]
Raiding continues! Two more bosses down on normal, Lihuvim and Halondrus, the endbosses of each of the two sidewings, and therewith unlocking the teleport to the last boss of this first phase of the raid, Anduin. We've fought him a couple of times, but it looks like a complicated fights, with hints of the Lich King fight back in Northrend as well.
[8:59 PM]
Seems fun though!
[8:59 PM]
Weekly this week was pet battles, which actually went quite smoothly for a change :)
[9:01 PM]
Oh, and I managed to get enough cosmic flux together from the raid to upgrade both my legendary items to max level, the feral pants as well as the guardian hat :)
[9:01 PM]
Torghast adamant vaults paid off! Got a new cloak appearance, the Blackflame Skull Crescent, as well as the pet, Gilded Darknight!
[9:04 PM]
And finally, alts! Had a bit of time again for that, and went for the mage, getting her from level 43 to 45 in Azsuna and Stormheim, and to 46 through a bit of class campaign.
[9:05 PM]
With a friend's help I got her dungeon quests done in Eye of Azshara and two other dungeons of our choosing, continuing through the mage campaign and getting two followers as rewards. An Arcane Destroyer, and the famous Millhouse Manastorm!
[9:07 PM]
That little gnome really does get everywhere. I think you can have him as a garrison follower, a brawl battle, a mage champion, a hearthstone legendary and a hearthstone mercenary, and I've probably missed him in a few other collectable places.
[9:08 PM]
Anyway, a few more quests remaining in the main class campaign, including board missions and world quests which I'm currently working on, and then I can start working towards the class mount, though I suspect she'll hit 48 before then.
[9:09 PM]
And then it's off to the Shadowlands with her as my third covenant alt!
[9:09 PM]
And that's my report for the week :)

Varda — Today at 9:46 PM
Thanks, Phar : )

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 9:46 PM
Right :)
[9:46 PM]
Namarie!

Varda — Today at 9:49 PM
Namarie : )
