World of Warcraft:
This week's Bonus Event: Shadowlands Dungeons.

The PvP Brawl: Deep Six runs through Tuesday, June 28th.

The Midsummer Fire Festival is going through July 5th.

Arien  Valar — Today at 4:14 PM
oh i loved to watch He-Man

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:15 PM
Must be a woman thing...I thought he was a pansy.

Eonwλ Valar — Today at 4:15 PM
I grew up with many Filmation cartoons, including He-man.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:15 PM
Wasn't that just as prince Adam?

Eonwλ Valar — Today at 4:17 PM
He put on that facade to hide the fact he was He-man, yes.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:17 PM
Of course I can't watch anything He-man without thinking of that silly heyya youtube video...

Eonwλ Valar — Today at 4:17 PM
Like Clark Kent pretends to be a bumbling klutz to hide the fact he's Superman.
[4:18 PM]
80's Filmation cartoons, as recycled as they are, are still alot better than alot of the dumbed-down stuff they feed children these days.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:19 PM
And Bruce Wayne pretends he's not broken inside?

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:19 PM
"He'-Man with a haircut like that? C'mon...

Arien  Valar — Today at 4:20 PM
wasn t he The Hulk ? i forgot his real name .. i just remember You wont like me when I am angr7

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:20 PM
Different Bruce, that's Bruce Banner

Eonwλ Valar — Today at 4:20 PM
Bruce Banner was the Hulk.

Arien  Valar — Today at 4:20 PM
ah yess

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:20 PM
Wayne = Batman

Varda — Today at 4:21 PM
A lot of men had longer hair back in time, except the Romans, because it was a real bear to keep it cut.

Eonwλ Valar — Today at 4:21 PM
Yeah, totally not manly to defeat the badguys whenever they rear their ugly heads and try to take over the world. Let's focus on his hair.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:21 PM
I believe Conan had long-ish hair too

Eonwλ Valar — Today at 4:21 PM
Anyway, back to gaming news.

[4:25 PM]
Nice to see the return of Hamson. He used to game with us a lot.
Orome now has a new computer and downloaded LotRO.
He made a captain, currently level 1, on Landroval.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:25 PM
Level 1 and already captain?

Varda — Today at 4:26 PM
I saw him a few minutes ago trying to come online and disappearing right afte.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:26 PM
They should really start at "recruit" or something...

Varda — Today at 4:26 PM
Heh, not the PvMP title. : )
Player vs Monster Player
where you earn the titles in war with other players.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:26 PM
I was more thinking of the military rank in general (pun not intended)

Varda — Today at 4:27 PM
Aye. You were clear, actually. Seems kind of odd now that you mention it. More or less means "natural leader class".
But that's a mite long!

Eonwλ Valar — Today at 4:27 PM
Well, Captain is about the closest to a Paladin in LotRO, so....

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:27 PM
Or as they called in the Discworld series, a "Rupert"

Varda — Today at 4:28 PM
Ouch : )
WoW Paladin description is pretty much right!
[4:29 PM]

Any other gaming news?
Starcraft 2 obviously is active, with Eowyn and Treebeard playing it right now. : )  Faramir and our grandson also. I believe some others of you if you want to mention?
[4:31 PM]

Tabletop games that I usually forget to mention, but  are being played by Sauron, Gimli, Varda, and some Tolkien-onlies together. : )
[4:32 PM]

Eve Online by Pallando and Sauron that I know of.
So that's what little news I can pass along. : )
On to...

Tolkien!

[4:33 PM]
"Giving up" the Ring. No one actually hands it to the next bearer. Is that true or false?
[4:33 PM]
Sauron > Isildur > Deagol > Smeagol/Gollum > Bilbo > Frodo > Sam > Frodo > Gollum

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:34 PM
Doesn't Sam give it to Frodo?

Eonwλ Valar — Today at 4:34 PM
So you're saying each next bearer is a "Thief! Baggins!" Well, not so much the Baggins part in all cases, but you get the point.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:35 PM
Frodo did get it from Bilbo, but not directly from hand to hand.

Varda — Today at 4:35 PM
Not exactly - just can't voluntarily hand it over even when they are trying.

Arien  Valar — Today at 4:35 PM
well you can hardly speak of handing down the ring ^^ even though both Sauron and Frodo , the first and the last bearer, actually ended up with an injured hand , i., e. a lost finger

Varda — Today at 4:35 PM
That could be a way of "handing" ouchie!
[4:35 PM]
Parallel there.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:35 PM
give em a finger, they take a hand... or.. something...

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:36 PM
Yes... but he was hesitant to do so, out of his desire to keep Frodo from feeling the ill effects of the ring...yet that is how it always begins with the ring, as Gandalf points out...the desire to do good....but the Ring ALWAYS gets you in the end, so I would say that Sam too was hesitant to give up the Ring.

Arien  Valar — Today at 4:37 PM
well aye Sam did play at least with the thought of keeping it for a short while .. or the ring tried to tempt him into it

Eonwλ Valar — Today at 4:37 PM
Isuldir took it from Sauron's cold dead hand. Deagol took it from the bottom of the river where it fell from Isildur's not yet cold dead hand. Smeagol took it from Deagol's, Bilbo took it from the floor of a cave, Frodo took it from the floor of a Hobbit hole, Sam took it from Frodo's neck, Frodo was given it by Sam. Gollum took it from a very irritated Frodo. (edited)

Varda — Today at 4:38 PM
Even Frodo took it from Sam. I went back and re-read that, thinking about a good Tolkien moment, and was startled.

Eonwλ Valar — Today at 4:38 PM
It seems, to only one from which it wasn't "tooken" was a Took, unless you count the Took blood in Frodo's line. (And Sam handed it over, definitely not a Took.) (edited)

Varda — Today at 4:39 PM
Sam was a Harfoot, if that's what you're thinking of?

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:39 PM
The puns, oh the puns.

Eonwλ Valar — Today at 4:39 PM
Mostly just looking to make a joke involving the words "tooken" and "Took", heh.

Varda — Today at 4:40 PM
hehe

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:40 PM
"tooken" sounds like a good German verb....tooke, tookest, tooket, tooken, tooket, tooken, and so on.

Varda — Today at 4:40 PM
: )

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:40 PM
Doesn't seem like it'd work in Dutch, anyway. We'd probably shorten it to "token".

Varda — Today at 4:41 PM
I have the actual Tolkien Moment typed up with a few ellipses, for Sam.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:41 PM
Possibly toeken.

Varda — Today at 4:41 PM
heh
[4:41 PM]
The Return of the King, "The Tower of Cirith Ungol"
"They've taken everything, Sam," said Frodo."Everything I had. Do you understand? Everything!...
...

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:41 PM
beggin your pardon, master frodo, but no they didn't...

Varda — Today at 4:41 PM
"No, not everything, Mr. Frodo. And it [quest] hasn't failed, not yet. I took it, Mr. Frodo, begging your pardon.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:42 PM
or was that the movie?

Varda — Today at 4:42 PM
And I've kept it safe. It's round my neck now, and a terrible burden it is, too."
Sam fumbled for the Ring and its chain. "But I suppose you must take it back."
Now it had come to it, Sam felt reluctant to give up the Ring and burden his master with it again.
"You've got it?" gasped Frodo. "You've got it here? Sam, you're a marvel!"
Then quickly and strangely his tone changed. "Give it to me!" he cried, standing up, holding out a trembling hand. "Give it to me at once! You can't have it!"

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:43 PM
Just so we know what we are "takin" about...
[4:43 PM]
    take (v.)

late Old English tacan "to take, seize," from a Scandinavian source (such as Old Norse taka "take, grasp, lay hold," past tense tok, past participle tekinn; Swedish ta, past participle tagit), from Proto-Germanic takan- (source also of Middle Low German tacken, Middle Dutch taken, Gothic tekan "to touch"), from Germanic roottak- "to take," of uncertain origin, perhaps originally meaning "to touch."

As the principal verb for "to take," it gradually replaced Middle English nimen, from Old English niman, from the usual West Germanic verb, *nemanan (source of German nehmen, Dutch nemen; see nimble).

OED calls take "one of the elemental words of the language;" take up alone has 55 varieties of meaning in that dictionary's 2nd print edition. Basic sense is "to lay hold of," which evolved to "accept, receive" (as in take my advice) c. 1200; "absorb" (take a punch) c. 1200; "choose, select" (take the high road) late 13c.; "to make, obtain" (take a shower) late 14c.; "to become affected by" (take sick) c. 1300.

Varda — Today at 4:43 PM
"All right, Mr. Frodo," said Sam, rather startled. "Here it is!"
Slowly he drew the Ring out and passed the chain over his head.
"But you're in the land of Mordor now, sir; and when you get out, you'll see the Fiery Mountain and all.
You'll find the Ring very dangerous now, and very hard to bear. If it's too hard a job, I could share it with you, maybe?"
"No, no!" cried Frodo, snatching the Ring and chain from Sam's hands. "No you won't, you thief!"...
End quote.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:44 PM
Funny. So the English went for "take" from germanic origins, and the Dutch went for "nemen" from English origins?
[4:45 PM]
Ah, he snatched it.

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:45 PM
Ironic, no?

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:45 PM
Kinda, since we "took" it from each other
Share the load...
[4:46 PM]
At least it hadn't taken over Sam yet so much, since not only was he asking for permission from Frodo to keep it, but he also kept it out for Frodo to take.

Varda — Today at 4:47 PM
Not exactly with his hand out in offering, but yes.

Eonwλ Valar — Today at 4:49 PM
He didn't just drop it on the floor and say "fiddle-dee-dee, I better pick it up" to have Gandalf scoop it into an envelope before he could.

Varda — Today at 4:49 PM
True
[4:52 PM]
If there are no further thoughts on the matter...?

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:53 PM
The magma "took" the Ring from Gollum?

Varda — Today at 4:53 PM
I guess we already know the subject awfully well. I'll try to dig up something more obscure next time. : )
[4:54 PM]
Or let you folks think of something for next time! yay!
[4:55 PM]
the gavel dances to the hammerpad

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:55 PM
I liked it, actually! Nice moment, and a few details I hadn't remembered.

Varda — Today at 4:55 PM

they bow and

Blizzard gaming:
[6:31 PM]
Hearthstone:
Hit level 100 on the reward track tonight, getting my 6th "tier 1" portrait, choosing Cenarion raiment for Malfurion.
[6:31 PM]
Next up will be lots of bonus golds!
[6:32 PM]
Almost got enough gold to buy that Medivh battlegrounds bartender, which is just a thing to have since I don't battleground much.. but still
[6:34 PM]
Brawl is deathrattle: choose a class, get a random deck, each minion you play gets a random deathrattle. Luck needed! But some classes like priest and hunter do well with deathrattles, so maybe those might help if you're not having much luck.
[6:35 PM]
For mercenaries, lots more levels, though no new max level ones. And because for the last few days 3 of my tasks have centered out maxing out mercenaries to level 30, I've not been able to do many tasks aside.
[6:37 PM]
I did get enough coins for a new merc, Thrall, who should be familiar to all who've played Warcraft 3 or WoW
[6:37 PM]
Or, indeed, heroes of the storm and hearthstone.
[6:38 PM]
And I got my first levels on Tyrael, the free merc from.. the Diablo Immortal release, I think.
[6:39 PM]
WoW:
[6:40 PM]
Raidbreak has started. Did still do the old Siege of Orgrimmar raid with a friend, though, and while we got none of the pets we were after (still), I did manage to complete the heroic class set from there for my druid.
[6:41 PM]
Weekly is mythic dungeons, but the heroic raid reward I got from that was something I already had, so meh.
[6:42 PM]
Midsummer Festival has started! After some digging I found out there were 3 new toys to be had for 300 blossoms total, so I went around Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms, messing with bonfires until I had those 300 blossoms and got the new toys. A skillet replacing the old cosmetic appearance with use as cooking fire, and 2 toys to spice up fire festival dancing: insoles and batons.
[6:43 PM]
I also bought the Midsummer pack from the shop!
[6:43 PM]
Already had 5 out of 10 items, so that came cheap, and the remaining 5 were worth it.
[6:45 PM]
A transmorpher beacon toy, which is always popular in raids; the cat mount Sunwarmed Furline, which is rather unique and fun as far as cat mounts go; the old Blossoming Ancient tree pet, and a new one: Lil' Ursoc! Which I had to get as a guardian druid, in honor of our late bear god.
[6:46 PM]
And also the Sprite Darter appearance set, which I tried out on my huntress, as seen at https://worldofwarcraft.com/en-gb/character/eu/argent-dawn/caliona
World of Warcraft
Caliona - Character - WoW
Caliona (Argent Dawn) ❮The High Guard❯ - 11 Night Elf Beast Mastery Hunter, 7 ilvl

[6:46 PM]
It's been so long since I've levelled her that she was actually wearing mostly leather, which a hunter can't transmog, but I replaced a few items with heirlooms, mogged those, and added a few fitting pieces.
[6:47 PM]
She looks a bit weird and I'm not sure how long I'll keep it this way, but it's fun to try out
[6:52 PM]
Finally, between watching a few movies last week (including Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy) I didn't get as much alting done as I thought I would in the absence of raiding, but I did get Alcaria the paladin into Maldraxxus, completing the intro sections, obtaining the Primus' runeblade, and starting on the 3-chapter fork, beginning with meeting up with Lady Vashj at the House of Rituals. As I never sent my paladin to BC they've not met before, but I'm sure they'll get along fine
[6:52 PM]
Oh, and she got to level 55 in the process.
[6:53 PM]
And that's my report for the week!
