Treebeard Yesterday at 4:00 PM
Hello
Varda Yesterday at 4:00 PM
@Bounder Huzzah! The Valar Guild meeting is about to begin! Come
lurk, say hi, chat Tolkien and gaming!
[4:00 PM]
Aiya Fangorn : )
Sandalf13 Yesterday at 4:01 PM
Aiya all! I Am here too. Sitting in a Starbucks on a blistering
hot day...but very dry. THe grass is turning brown, and people are
advised not to water, because it has been a dry summer.
[4:02 PM]
[4:02 PM]
The Platte River is dry, as you can see.

Treebeard Yesterday at 4:02 PM
People should be watering the grass at night and rolling out the
shade for the grass during the day
Arien Valar Yesterday at 4:03 PM
Aiya all
Sandalf13 Yesterday at 4:03 PM
Aiya Arien!
Varda Yesterday at 4:03 PM
Aiya Sandalf and Arien : )
Treebeard Yesterday at 4:03 PM
They could be using that greenhouse webbing to shade and let UV
through.
[4:04 PM]
If they did that in Mordor, they would have had more grass and
tangled the enemy up
Arien Valar Yesterday at 4:04 PM
aiya Fangorn nice to see you here
Treebeard Yesterday at 4:04 PM
thx

Varda Yesterday at 4:07 PM
Well, guess I need to respond with an important item also:
[4:07 PM]
https://babylonbee.com/news/elon-musk-cancels-boring-project-after-delving-too-deep-unearthing-balrog
The Babylon Bee
Elon Musk Cancels Boring Project After Delving
Too Deep, Unearthing...
LOS ANGELES, CAElon Musk just announced he'll
be scrapping his plans for a tunnel underneath the 405 freeway in
Los Angeles after his boring crews delved too greedily and too
deep, unearthing a Balrog deep under the city.
Sandalf13 Yesterday at 4:07 PM
Oh no! Did it escape?
Varda Yesterday at 4:07 PM
May-be
Sandalf13 Yesterday at 4:07 PM
MAybe the Balrog took up residence in western Nebraska...
Varda Yesterday at 4:08 PM
: ) Now we know!
[4:08 PM]
Any membership news?
[4:09 PM]
I can happily report that Ioreth made it past that last
cancer operation and was in LotRO. : )
[4:09 PM]
She feels lousy, trouble typing, but huzzah she's still able to
join in. : )
Sandalf13 Yesterday at 4:09 PM
Wonderful news, for a change.
Varda Yesterday at 4:10 PM
Dis has been playing regularly and added new characters to the
kin. : )
[4:10 PM]
Eonwe hopes to be here for the meeting, but may be a tad late.
[4:10 PM]
Any other membership news? Maybe sightings of European Valarites?
Sandalf13 Yesterday at 4:11 PM
Is Ar going to join us today?
Oss๋ Yesterday at 4:11 PM
Aiya all
Treebeard Yesterday at 4:12 PM
We should ask Eowyn-V to watch out for any Balrog sightings while
she is in Ireland. Are there any members active in the area?
[4:12 PM]
Hi ya
Arien Valar Yesterday at 4:12 PM
I ve spotter Ar earlier and Shelob as well
Varda Yesterday at 4:13 PM
Thanks both of you. : )
Arien Valar Yesterday at 4:14 PM
by the way .. a tunnel has been suggested between Mallaig on the
Mainland and Armadale on Skye (seriously) because of ferry
troubles
Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 4:14 PM
Aiya, catching up
Varda Yesterday at 4:15 PM
Aiya Phar : )
Sandalf13 Yesterday at 4:15 PM
Aiya AR! Glad to "see" you!
Arien Valar Yesterday at 4:15 PM
it is feared that the continued trouble might caause less tourism
and effect the islands negatively .. just thought of it becouse
you lmentioned the tunnel ^
Varda Yesterday at 4:16 PM
Interesting. Sad to hear about ferry troubles. I enjoy ferries.
Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 4:16 PM
Caught up Came back from visiting parents for a few days.
Had it planned for earlier in the week but my inner ear's only
been getting better later in the week.
Sandalf13 Yesterday at 4:17 PM
Have you ever taken the Staten Island Ferry across Upper New York
Bay?
Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 4:17 PM
Still slightly off balance, but not really bad.
Varda Yesterday at 4:17 PM
Family first! Glad you had the chance to visit. : )
Treebeard Yesterday at 4:17 PM
Would that be Scottish Faeries or Irish Faeries problems?
Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 4:17 PM
Ferry troubles sound weird since my brother's called Ferry.
Varda Yesterday at 4:17 PM
Hope you're ok while sitting in front of the computer.
[4:17 PM]
heh
Arien Valar Yesterday at 4:17 PM
Never been to the states so far L:(
Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 4:17 PM
Yeah, just bobbing horizontally a bit
Varda Yesterday at 4:17 PM
Maybe chair arms needed. : )
Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 4:18 PM
(also... the Platte River is the Platte Plateau now?)
Sandalf13 Yesterday at 4:18 PM
Ha ha...the elevation where the picture was taken is about 2,000
feet above MSL.
Arien Valar Yesterday at 4:19 PM
scottish ones Fangorn The faeries are still waiting to help
the Islanders in a last heroic battle and that is hopefully far
away
Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 4:19 PM
And I'm not sure if it's because I'm not a native English speaker
but when you mentioned Musk's "boring" project I thought it meant
it just wasn't very exciting.
Arien Valar Yesterday at 4:19 PM
(so the legends tell anyway)
Sandalf13 Yesterday at 4:19 PM
As a geologist, I am into borings.
Varda Yesterday at 4:19 PM
Musk is into puns. : )
Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 4:19 PM
Then I clicked the link and read "boring crews" and it hit me.
Sandalf13 Yesterday at 4:20 PM
Boring is good.
Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 4:20 PM
Excitement is overrated.
Varda Yesterday at 4:20 PM

Arien Valar Yesterday at 4:33 PM
Aiya Eonwe Ariengar and Lamerien need invititing on
Shadowfax cough
Varda Yesterday at 4:34 PM
Great! I'll pull it up.
Arien Valar Yesterday at 4:34 PM

Varda Yesterday at 4:34 PM
Woot!
Eonw๋ Valar Yesterday at 4:35 PM
Heya all.
Varda Yesterday at 4:35 PM
Aiya : )
Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 4:35 PM
Aiya Eonwe!
Varda Yesterday at 4:35 PM
I swiped your Gaming slot. How would you like to take the Tolkien
slot? : )
[4:36 PM]
Any other gaming news?
[4:38 PM]
Lamerian is now in our Shadowfax kin. : )
Eonw๋ Valar Yesterday at 4:39 PM
Two teaspoons of honey and a drenching of lemon juice.
Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 4:40 PM
Bold choice.
Eonw๋ Valar Yesterday at 4:40 PM
Yeah, I should probably take my Tolkien slot with more honey.
Varda Yesterday at 4:41 PM
spoons more honey into a bowl
Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 4:41 PM
I generally take my fantasy with a bit of salt.
Eonw๋ Valar Yesterday at 4:42 PM
Got plenty of salt from other sources.
Varda Yesterday at 4:42 PM
Keeps away ghosts? : )
Eonw๋ Valar Yesterday at 4:42 PM
Now if it's sea salt, and you've got some caramel to go with it,
then we can negotiate.
Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 4:43 PM
Sure, can work with that.
Varda Yesterday at 4:43 PM
Ariengar is now in our Shadowfax LotRO kinship. : )
Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 4:44 PM
Sunwar?
Eonw๋ Valar Yesterday at 4:45 PM
Tolkien:
Varda Yesterday at 4:46 PM
Interesting name idea.
Eonw๋ Valar Yesterday at 4:46 PM
So a couple of weeks ago, for reasons that may
or may not be remembered, I was digging around looking for a
suffix to create a diminutive form of a name.
Varda Yesterday at 4:47 PM
Ahh, for your story writing, I'll bet.
Eonw๋ Valar Yesterday at 4:48 PM
Well I finally stumbled on it, in a couple of different books used
in a couple of different words/names, for I'm fairly satisfied
with it.
Sandalf13 Yesterday at 4:48 PM
Believe it or not, I have come across tables that provide lists of
elvish, mannish, dwarvish, and hobbit typical names....incredible
what people have done.
Online, of course.
Eonw๋ Valar Yesterday at 4:48 PM
I believe it.
Varda Yesterday at 4:49 PM
Yes, we have seen them.
Sandalf13 Yesterday at 4:49 PM
I guess we are part of the plethora of Tolkien stuff...
Varda Yesterday at 4:49 PM
We even have a Tolkien
Encyc with a lot of names from the books.
Eonw๋ Valar Yesterday at 4:52 PM
The first example was in the tale of Aldarion and Erendis in UT,
and so while avoiding re-re-re-reading that tragedy, the world
"herink๋" came to light, meaning "little lady" evidently.
Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 4:52 PM
(I named my WoW warrior after that guy)
Varda Yesterday at 4:52 PM
: )
Eonw๋ Valar Yesterday at 4:54 PM
The second was in The Peoples of Middle-Earth (HoME XII)
in the mother-name of Curufin: "Atarink๋" = "little father" due to
his similarities to his father F๋anor.
[4:58 PM]
So -ink๋ (or -inc๋ if one uses 'c' for the 'k' sound like in
later writings) would be the diminutive suffix. There's also the
word "Pitya" used in Amrod's father-name "Pityafinw๋" = "little
Finw๋") but I like -inc๋ for my uses a little better, heh.
Arien Valar Yesterday at 4:59 PM
sounds both nice
Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 4:59 PM
https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/incy
incy
1. extremely small: 2. extremely small:
Varda Yesterday at 5:00 PM
Gives you more room to make different-sounding names. Nifty.
Sandalf13 Yesterday at 5:01 PM
I always thought it was eensy....as in the poem...'The eensy
beensy spider crept up the waterspout....down came the rain, and
washed the spider out....' and so on.
Arien Valar Yesterday at 5:01 PM
"ickle* is also used for small, but that is not very polite to say
the least
Varda Yesterday at 5:01 PM
Nice, Phar! I only knew the eensy. Click the link for more about
incy
Sandalf13 Yesterday at 5:01 PM
Fascinating! I once was doing some research on TOlkien and Old
English and came across the word "mickle," meaning "small" in OE.
Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 5:01 PM
I always heard that poem as itsy bitsy spider, btw.
Varda Yesterday at 5:02 PM
Depends on where you live for the spelling.
[5:02 PM]
I heard it as itsy bitsy spider too. But we used eensy weensy for
other things.
[5:02 PM]
Eonwe, see what you started? : )
Sandalf13 Yesterday at 5:02 PM
An eensy conversation!
[5:03 PM]
Better "an itsy bitsy conversation?"
Varda Yesterday at 5:03 PM
We get all eddicated here. : )
Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 5:03 PM
teeny tiny itsy bitsy incy wincy conversation
Varda Yesterday at 5:03 PM
Teeny weeny also.
Sandalf13 Yesterday at 5:03 PM
A man might take umbrage to that.
Arien Valar Yesterday at 5:04 PM
"weensy" eh? we use "wee* as an every day word for small
[5:04 PM]
in scots
Varda Yesterday at 5:04 PM
Aye on the wee.
[5:04 PM]
Well, we didn't use it that way, Sandalf. But I can see how it
could be looked at.
Sandalf13 Yesterday at 5:05 PM
Yes. Enough said.
Varda Yesterday at 5:05 PM
Wee can also be looked at badly.
Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 5:05 PM
"I'm taking a wee wee" for example?
Varda Yesterday at 5:05 PM
Once the minds are tracked to the gutter, the interpretations all
head that way.
[5:05 PM]
Time to not think of pink elephants.
Arien Valar Yesterday at 5:05 PM
hihi
Eonw๋ Valar Yesterday at 5:06 PM
Yeah, we don't need to walk down those roads.
Varda Yesterday at 5:06 PM
Aye. We were on words in Tolkien you were looking up?
Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 5:06 PM
Before this tiny tangent.
Arien Valar Yesterday at 5:07 PM
just interesting what history same word roots have and in which
areas they are used
Sandalf13 Yesterday at 5:07 PM
itsy bitsy tangent?
Varda Yesterday at 5:08 PM
Anyway, let's pretend to be mature. : )
[5:08 PM]
It is the hour.
If anyone needs to take off, get some rest before tomorrow, make
supper, this can be our chance.
[5:09 PM]
After-meeting!
Arien Valar Yesterday at 5:10 PM
actually i am off tomorrow for a change dry but still
getting tired
Sandalf13 Yesterday at 5:11 PM
Thanks! I am going to head home, eat my leftovers from out dinner
at Bison Witches yesterday, then head to the Telegraph Mill to
FINISH my review of Chapter Two...you will have my few comments
later this evening, Varda. Namarie to all! I hope you are all

Varda Yesterday at 5:11 PM
Sounds great!

Sandalf13 Yesterday at 5:11 PM

Right after cooking it, you bet! : )

Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 5:13 PM
Time to see what WoW's been up to in the last 3 days.
Ar-Pharazon-V Yesterday at 9:58 PM
Right, was doing some other stuff... but time for the personal
report
[9:58 PM]
top
Personal gaming report that is!
[9:59 PM]
For (non)flashgaming, a few good oldies
once again, this time I'll choose
https://www.kongregate.com/games/ConnorBohan/rogue-isles
Kongregate
Rogue Isles
Hack, slash, and die your way through this
melee bullet-hell roguelite!
[9:59 PM]
A roguelike upgrade game taking place on various isles connected
to each other on a somewhat randomized map for each run.
[10:00 PM]
Collect gold for upgrades of armor and weapons for subsequent
runs, and find npcs to give you buffs to choose from and switch
between.
[10:02 PM]
Eventually you can take on the 3 bosses located on islands deeper
into the map, and then even continue on a "newgame+" if you like
[10:03 PM]
Blizzard gaming:
[10:04 PM]
Hearthstone:
New reward track has started! Since early levels require so few
xp, even despite being away for a few days, I managed to hit level
27 so far.
[10:05 PM]
Along the way I've gotten the Sire Denathrius legendary, the
mercenary Sir Finley, the Revendreth card back, and a random
legendary which in my case was Decimator Olgra... Mankrik's wife,
for those who remember
[10:06 PM]
I've also gotten my first 5 ranked wins in August, giving me the
Celestial Starlight cardback. Quite pretty!
[10:07 PM]
Brawl is an old one, Captain Blackheart's Treasure, where you get
a deck full of standard pirates, and each turn instead of drawing
a card, you choose from 1 of 3 random cards to discover. The
pirates are there as filler for when you use cards that draw.
Much randomness! As such, class you pick doesn't really matter,
though you can try to find some that synch well with randomness.
[10:08 PM]
No mercs done this week, had other stuff on my mind like things to
watch and vacations to go on
WoW:
[10:09 PM]
No Rygelon attempts on tuesday, did not have enough people, even
though I was home unexpectedly. In the new reset the Fated raids
started, and we poked Fated Nathria on normal difficulty. While
the numbers are higher, the mechanics are still relatively simple,
and we got 4 bosses down.
[10:11 PM]
After getting a top-end conduit from one of those, someone in the
group told me that the item to unlock all 278 level conduits was
now available without requiring mythic+ rating, so I bought that
in Oribos, so now all my conduits are done Should help me
somewhat in raiding!
Weekly is battlegrounds, and while I've not been able to finish
those yet for this reset, I did reach honor level 99.
[10:13 PM]
And finally, for alting, poked the paladin for a short while,
getting most of the penitent hunt chapter done. Have not had time
for anything else, but we'll get there.
And that's my report for the week!
