Before-meeting
Varda — Today at 3:53 PM
I checked the meeting time listed on the News, and since it was copy/pasted (my bad), the change to being off Daylight Savings Time was not done. Fixed now, but it has caused confusion and I apologize. Here's hoping we are all together next Sunday with greater ease!

Treebeard — Today at 3:59 PM
Hello

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:00 PM
Hallo!  Ja! I am now in meeting place...once again. I hope that I have the right time this time!

Varda — Today at 4:00 PM
Aiya!
[4:00 PM]
You are exactly on time. : )
[4:01 PM]
@Bounder Huzzah! It's time to chat about Tolkien and gaming with friends, or at least get to say hi!
[4:01 PM]
And this time I'm in the right channel, hah!

Falco — Today at 4:01 PM
Aiya!

Varda — Today at 4:01 PM

Membership:
[4:04 PM]
Happy to say Elwing is out of the hospital after a heart stent and doing fine. Even went back to work. : )

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:04 PM
Great news!

Varda — Today at 4:04 PM
Any other membership news?
[4:04 PM]
Aye to that. : )

Arien  Valar — Today at 4:04 PM
congratulations

Varda — Today at 4:04 PM
Hope they found a way to help you out, Arien?

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:05 PM
Greetngs all.

Varda — Today at 4:05 PM
And aiya to Shelob. : )
[4:05 PM]
Aiya to Eonwe. : )

Arien  Valar — Today at 4:05 PM
not yet sigh .. still in a kind of limbo lingering at home

Varda — Today at 4:05 PM
At least you are able to use the computer.
[4:05 PM]
Race about in-game!

Shelob — Today at 4:05 PM
Aiya

Varda — Today at 4:05 PM
Aiya : )

Arien  Valar — Today at 4:06 PM
but things are not so bad .. i kind of feel unjustified sitting at home and do nothing lol

Shelob — Today at 4:06 PM
A boon to be sure. For the first two weeks after I broke my ankle, I could barely sit behind my pc.

Varda — Today at 4:06 PM
heh

Arien  Valar — Today at 4:07 PM
i don t complain (too much ) although its kind of frustrating if u know what i mean

Varda — Today at 4:07 PM
Gimli couldn't game online due to the lousy internet at the hospital, but did get on Discord. : )
[4:07 PM]
Arien, what's happening with you is not right. Here's hoping they figure out the problem soon.

Shelob — Today at 4:07 PM
I know exactly what you mean. Wish you recover soon.

Arien  Valar — Today at 4:07 PM
thanks

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:07 PM
Sei gesund! May you be healthy!

Varda — Today at 4:08 PM
If that blessing works as well as it does on Barliman's beer, you'll be fine!

Web:
[4:08 PM]
Stuff going on, but nothing online yet.
[4:08 PM]
Eonwe, did you have any web comments?

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:09 PM
Nothing at the moment.

Varda — Today at 4:09 PM
Of course, Eonwe posted news to the Games Site, and we have news on the general News site. : )

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:09 PM
Where is the general news site?

Varda — Today at 4:09 PM
http://valarguild.org/varda/guild/news.html
    News
General news for the Valar Guild
for online gaming and the Tolkien Site.
[4:09 PM]
Reach it from the main index page:
[4:10 PM]
http://valarguild.org/
    Valar Guild
an international society of Tolkien appreciators and
    gamers.
[4:10 PM]
From that index, you should be able to find everything else.
[4:10 PM]
If not, let us know how to make it better!
[4:11 PM]
Thanks, a very good question. I believe you only came through the Stories section, which has its own Story News.

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:11 PM
Yes. Correct.

Varda — Today at 4:11 PM
The general News has info from all other news areas except the Games Site, and that happens in the transcript if you want to hit the link. : )
[4:12 PM]
The Stories section is a fun side project we started on the side of the Encyclopedia.
[4:12 PM]
It was popular. : )
[4:13 PM]
We also have quite a bit under Art, and a fair bit under Poetry.
[4:13 PM]
Those are also side projects that we enjoy.
[4:13 PM]
If you have any questions, we love to talk!

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:14 PM
I would love to check out the Art site sometime. I have started a collection of Tolkien FanArt.

Varda — Today at 4:14 PM
That's fun.
[4:15 PM]
Please ask our members before posting their art elsewhere. Most are ok with it if credited.
[4:15 PM]
You may mean you are collecting the art on your own computer rather than on a website?

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:16 PM
Yes, I enjoy looking at it from time to time. It has helped inspire me to write my first story, that appears on our site. I do not post any of it any further.

Varda — Today at 4:16 PM
That's a great reason to look at it! : )
[4:17 PM]
Here's the entry into our art section:
[4:17 PM]
http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/art/text/GlitteringCaves.htm
[4:17 PM]
Each person's area is in a "cave" of the cavern of the Glittering Caves.
[4:17 PM]
Our forum also has links to the various sections, letting people comment if they want to.

Tolkien started organically:

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:18 PM
Yes. The Glittering Caves of Aglarond. I have some problems with Tolkien's use of caves in the canon. Many of the places where he puts caves are NOT suitable geologic locations for caves. Uh oh. There I go again.

Varda — Today at 4:18 PM
hehe
[4:19 PM]
Eru dug out some places. Call it a "hand of God" thing. : )
[4:19 PM]
Maybe some could be due to old lava tubes?
[4:20 PM]
We also know the elves and dwarves did a lot of digging.

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:20 PM
My youngest son used to play an early card game in the 1990s that had four different color sets of cards. I loved the "Wrath of G-d Card." It wiped out everything.

Varda — Today at 4:20 PM
hehe

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:20 PM
Aiya, catching up

Varda — Today at 4:20 PM
Aiya Phar : )

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:20 PM
Lava tubes are usually not large enough to accomodate Tolkien.

Varda — Today at 4:21 PM
Maybe if they take the tubes and use them as starters to dig out their homes?
[4:21 PM]
Connect a bunch of separate ones, blast fractures?

Shelob — Today at 4:21 PM
In his defense, he was a linguist, not a geologist.

Varda — Today at 4:21 PM
Truth. : )

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:22 PM
Absolutely. So I try the best I can to make sense of his geology.

Varda — Today at 4:22 PM
The shoehorn and sledgehammer techniques!

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:22 PM
Have you read "Atlas of Middle-Earth" by Karen Wynn Fonstad?

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:23 PM
One does not simply find glittering mineral deposits in lava tubes or the like. No. I have not read the above.

Varda — Today at 4:23 PM
You might find it quite interesting.
[4:23 PM]
Can also pick out a few errors in it. ; )
[4:24 PM]
The Glittering Caves... Now how would that have been possible with real geology? Have to let you work that one out for us someday.

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:24 PM
There are two HYSTERICAL videos you should check out on You Tube. (1) "Here come the Geologists," by the Amoeba People, and their follow-up to that about (2) Hammer Safety. Absolutely guaranteed to crack you up.

Varda — Today at 4:24 PM
Feel free to post the links if you happen to have them handy?

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:25 PM
Caught up. And I will say that some of the geology in Middle-Earth has baffled me also.
[4:25 PM]
Someone remind me how the mountains of Mordor got their [ shape again...

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:26 PM
I shall get them now.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:26 PM
Sauron shaped them?

Varda — Today at 4:26 PM
Welll, the Valar and Morgoth tusseled over the shape of things.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:26 PM
Myes, I suppose so.
[4:26 PM]
A sort of divine version of "a wizard did it"

Varda — Today at 4:26 PM
Aye, Phar. : )

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:27 PM
I see no reason why Sauron wouldn't have enhanced the geographical borders of his land to make it more defensible.

Varda — Today at 4:27 PM
A Vala would make a mountain, Morgoth would make it a sea, and vice versa.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:27 PM
And filled them with caves, Eonwe?

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:27 PM
Shortcuts for the minions I suppose.

Varda — Today at 4:27 PM
Sure! Why not!
[4:28 PM]
Ahh, those look like fun, Sandalf! Definitely going to watch both!

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:28 PM
The second one in particular is a mockery of mockumentaries.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:28 PM
Sauron did the heavy lifting with the mountains. The orcs can dig the caves :}

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:28 PM
The background music is a killer.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:29 PM
Or Sauron can just enslave/pay some Dwarves to do so :}

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:29 PM
I do not think that Sauron was capable of that...I believe it had to be more of an Iluvatar thing.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:29 PM
Do we know that a Dwarf colony wasn't there first?

Varda — Today at 4:30 PM
lol - just watched the first!

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:30 PM
As a former Earth Sciences student this does ring true. And yes, my hammer was a lot more specialized. And I still have the pocket knife, complete with mineral scratches

Varda — Today at 4:30 PM
Hey, astronomers have a time with Tolkien's world too. : )  The sun goes down at night to travel through the geologists' deep caverns to come up on the other side.

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:31 PM
As soon as I get my chapter on the Geology of Middle Earth ready, I shall have to post a pre-publication copy of it somewhere on our site for you all to review and comment on. Any suggestions on the best way to do this? I am getting close to being ready to publish this chapter.

Varda — Today at 4:31 PM
And the stars are sailing ships, anyone knows.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:31 PM
Sandalf: Which part more of an Iluvatar thing? Raising up mountains? Sauron was a Maia of Aulë. I don't see why he couldn't throw up a few mountains here and there.

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:32 PM
But didn't the Valar themselves have to appeal to Eru to throw down and drown Numenor? Was not Eru responsible for the sinking of Beleriand at the End of the First Age?

Varda — Today at 4:32 PM
Second one, yep, hammer problem there. : )

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:32 PM
That was because there were Numenoreans there :} It wasn't a matter of ability, it was a matter of Eru's children.

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:32 PM
Excellent point.

Varda — Today at 4:33 PM
The Valar did not ask for that to happen. They stepped back and put the fate of the Secondborn in the hands of their Creator. They felt it was not their place.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:33 PM
Also, making the world round and moving around Valinor might have been a smidge beyond their power.

Varda — Today at 4:33 PM
Eru came out with wrath.

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:33 PM
Pretty rotten children, though. They remind me of the people in the classic Metropolis by Fritz Lang, where the people sacraficed their own children.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:34 PM
So Eru went Old Testament on them and said "Have some water"...

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:34 PM
That Wrath of G-d thing, again.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:34 PM
As Varda mentioned, the Valar had been shaping the universe, then shaping Arda for eons before. The issue at hand with Numenor was that the Valar didn't want to just wipe out an entire island-continent full of people, regardless of whether or not they were serving Morgoth at that point.

Varda — Today at 4:35 PM
To them, the Secondborn were their siblings. They let Dad handle it.
[4:35 PM]
And Sauron had misled them to do what they did.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:35 PM
Daaaad, the humans are bullying us

Varda — Today at 4:36 PM
heh - I don't want to have to beat up my brother. Would you step in, please?

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:36 PM
Yet Sauron could not deceive all men, notably, those who consciously rejected his evil and that of Morgoth.

Varda — Today at 4:36 PM
That's why the Numenoreans found no one around when they landed.
[4:37 PM]
Right, he could not. The Faithful gained many great things from being Faithful. Keeping a long life for one.
[4:37 PM]
Aragorn was a descendent of the Faithful.

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:37 PM
I believe that the Fall of the Numenoreans had great religious significance for Tolkien, and fit in nicely with his Catholic conceptions of good and evil.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:38 PM
It does have a bit of a Noah/Atlantis (more the latter, obviously) vibe.

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:38 PM
The Seven Deadly Sins, usw.

Varda — Today at 4:38 PM
The Atlantis thing is very definitely there. How was it spelled? Atalante as another name?

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:39 PM
Atalante looks right.
[4:39 PM]
Atalantë if we want to make sure we have the umlaut.

Treebeard — Today at 4:39 PM
Other languages don't translate to our alphabet well necessarily... the spelling may be phonetic.

Varda — Today at 4:40 PM
Aye, the umlaut would go there, definitely.

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:40 PM
Tolkien did not grow up in a literary vacuum...he was very well versed in Greek and Roman mythology, as well as ancient Norse mythology. He truly knew his stuff.

Varda — Today at 4:40 PM
Means "Downfallen"
[4:40 PM]
Aye, JRRT taught Beowulf for one example.
[4:40 PM]
a class on Beowulf I mean. He wasn't that old.

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:41 PM
And he was definitely a fan of Sherlock Holmes, as can be seen in my chapter entitled  "A Case of Identity: Aragorn as Sherlock Holmes."

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:41 PM
hehe
[4:41 PM]
It all makes sense now, Varda... Tolkien was there for all of it

Varda — Today at 4:41 PM
Now we know!
[4:42 PM]
I want to read your book all the way through.

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:43 PM
Ooops...my son is telling me it is time to take Ingrid to dinner. She is 1.5, and one cannot simply ignore a toddler. You guys are great! I will be here next Sunday. Varda: Please let me know via E-Mail about how I can begin to upload my work so far. Thanks!

Varda — Today at 4:43 PM
For sure!
[4:43 PM]
Do you know how to use Google Docs? Later. : )

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:43 PM
I can find out. Sei gesund, you all!

Treebeard — Today at 4:43 PM
Bye and namarie

Varda — Today at 4:43 PM
It can be hazardous to copyright.
[4:43 PM]
Namarie!

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:44 PM
namarie!
[4:44 PM]
One cannot simply ignore a toddler. There is evil there that never waits.

Varda — Today at 4:45 PM
hehe
[4:45 PM]
We swapped the regular Tolkien chat into the Games slot so we could enjoy that discussion. : )
[4:46 PM]
We may go back to more Tolkien, possibly the RP since all writers are present, after the gaming news, if you are able to stay?
[4:47 PM]
Or does time require we talk about the rp now, since we are within 15 minutes of the hour?
[4:47 PM]
We may lose Arien into the caverns!

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:47 PM
Tell her to watch out for lava tubes.
[4:47 PM]
Though somehow I doubt the sun can be bothered by those.

Varda — Today at 4:48 PM
hehe - she can probably connect them!
[4:50 PM]
Arien? Busy?

Arien  Valar — Today at 4:50 PM
not too busy

Varda — Today at 4:50 PM
Would you be up for rp discussion now or in a bit?
[4:51 PM]
We can do Gaming first if you need some time.

Arien  Valar — Today at 4:51 PM
we can do rp discussion sure

Varda — Today at 4:51 PM
Ok : )
[4:52 PM]
Eonwe, you mentioned wanting to discuss the rp today sometime?
[4:52 PM]
Feel free to lead off. : )

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:52 PM
Sure.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:53 PM
I'm a bit confused looking at the thread, I thought there was at least one more post after it...

Arien  Valar — Today at 4:53 PM
if i remember right we were discussing the next step for scouting the enemy city right or foraging there without getting the enemies on our back
[4:53 PM]
i mean the characters

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:55 PM
I find I come up with stuff better when I get a chance to discuss the RP, so I would first like to get a feel for what everyone wants/expects to do with their characters in this section.

Varda — Today at 4:55 PM
I removed two of my posts to work better with Eonwe.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:55 PM
I know what I want to do with Auros/Telperos, but that only helps with my part :}

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:56 PM
Does that include the bit with the vantage point?
[4:57 PM]
Do you ever get the feeling you remember seeing something but it ends up not being there and you wonder if it was all a dream...
[4:58 PM]
Like Fainan yeeting a goblin from a watch tower.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:58 PM
My last post has Auros telling Fainan to climb up somewhere and get a lay of the land through the fog if possible.
[4:58 PM]
That existed, yes Phar. That's one of the posts Varda says she removed.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:59 PM
Good, I'm still sane then
[4:59 PM]
So what was wrong with it?

Varda — Today at 5:00 PM
There were no goblins or orcs around. It could not have been there.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:00 PM
Well, there were no orcs around, which is why I figured it was a goblin
[5:00 PM]
But in LotR there is little difference.

Varda — Today at 5:00 PM
I posted it as a goblin.
[5:01 PM]
Intentionally as to not be one of the larger orcs.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:01 PM
Goblins are orcs :} "Goblin" is not an elvish word :}

Varda — Today at 5:01 PM
There were various versions of orc.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:01 PM
These days I'm more used to the little green guys with rockets and explosives, but I know what you mean

Varda — Today at 5:03 PM
Moria orcs would have been considered "goblins"
[5:03 PM]
heh

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:03 PM
Noldor, Vanyar, Teleri, Falmari, Lindir, Sindar, Nandor, Laiquendi, Avari. All still Elves :}

Varda — Today at 5:04 PM
http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/articles/o/orcs/orctypesandgear.htm
    Orc Types and Gear
Types of Orcs and the gear they used in Tolkien's books.

[5:04 PM]
Aye, Eonwe
[5:05 PM]
Orcs were different enough to need to use Common Speech to talk together.
[5:05 PM]
Black Speech just didn't cut it. : )

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:06 PM
If they all even spoke enough of it to use it, hehe. (edited)

Varda — Today at 5:06 PM
More than Black Speech apparently!

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:07 PM
The Common Speech is quite Common after all :}

Varda — Today at 5:07 PM
hehe
[5:07 PM]
Copy paste:
[5:07 PM]
Orcs of the three different tribes on the march with Merry and Pippin could not understand each other's language and had to resort to the Common Speech.
[5:08 PM]
(copying myself)

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:08 PM
So what we know as Black Speech was only known to one of them, or were there large variations of it between tribes?

Varda — Today at 5:08 PM
Not all knew it even a little bit.
[5:09 PM]
Sauron made it up and intended it to be the new common, but it hadn't made it through everyone

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:09 PM
Esperanto.

Varda — Today at 5:10 PM
: )

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:10 PM
But back to my question: What do you all hope to do with your characters in this section? It would help to have some goals besides my own in mind :} I know we talked about Frali getting involved in the search of the ruins, but the intended methodology for that has been nullified so far as I can see, whether for good or ill.

Arien  Valar — Today at 5:11 PM
hhhmm more like morispanto

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:11 PM
It was my intent to haul some bales, toss em to Frali and come to Fainan at hearing the noise, but that was never typed and now it doesn't work

Varda — Today at 5:11 PM
uh oh. My link to the forum isn't working.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:11 PM
The overarching goal is to figure out if there's anything here in the papers collected that leads to our group goal of destroying the artifact.

Varda — Today at 5:12 PM
Fainan is feeling allergic to digging through papers again after Rivendell.
[5:12 PM]
Looking for a way out of it. ; )

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:13 PM
one sec.. Feel free to talk amongst yourselves :}

Varda — Today at 5:13 PM
: )

Treebeard — Today at 5:13 PM

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:13 PM
Well, right now we've all got non-paper assignments.

Arien  Valar — Today at 5:13 PM
get Frali onto it . he might be not that handy with papers but she might catch him with digging
[5:14 PM]
with terminology and charm if she is clever hehe

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:14 PM
ok, back. Sorry about that :}

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:14 PM
I am a dwarf and I'm digging a scroll, diggy diggy scroll

Arien  Valar — Today at 5:15 PM
would prevent him of causing too much racket if he sifts through other stuff ^

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:19 PM
My initial thought (as we've previously discussed) was that Auros was going to intend to do all the "research" himself, not just through the papers, but going through the town to see if he find anything reminiscent of the blade. That he was going to realize it wasn't going to work, and be forced to enlist Frali and help Frali "remember" the feeling from the blade he'd apparently been "cured" of. Finding out orcs are infiltrating the area unexpectedly could provide an impetus still, but the means/significance seem to no longer be there re: getting Frali involved.

Varda — Today at 5:21 PM
You want us to spot some orcs coming in through the fog?

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:21 PM
Problem with the orc thing is, if the infiltration is too strong, then the goal is no longer research and it just becomes escape.

Varda — Today at 5:21 PM
Aye to that. We'd be discovered, likely.
[5:22 PM]
I was just doing a single goblin that escaped detection, partly from being small and hiding in a tower.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:22 PM
Auros' hand would be forced to take what he could of the papers, and potentially destroy the rest to hurt the enemy cause.

Varda — Today at 5:22 PM
ouch
[5:22 PM]
That's a lot of papers
[5:23 PM]
So we can't yeet all of those between us?
[5:23 PM]
(to borrow Phar's yeet)

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:23 PM
It's one thing to sift through it and try to find what you can in hopes of leaving everything intact and escaping undetected. If you know you've been found out, the rules change.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:23 PM
We might. And I'm not sure that's the right useage

Arien  Valar — Today at 5:24 PM
just grab everything in reach and run for it .. look through it later?#
[5:24 PM]
everybody grab everything
[5:24 PM]
or anything rather

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:24 PM
Stuff your pocketses.

Varda — Today at 5:24 PM
Looking it up, it doesn't seem to mean "grab".

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:25 PM
No, I meant it as in "throw at high velocity"
[5:25 PM]
But that might not have been what you did to the goblin. I don't remember.

Varda — Today at 5:25 PM
Yoink might be the "word" I am looking for. : )

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:26 PM
Yes, yoink sounds good!

Varda — Today at 5:26 PM
I like the throw at high velocity. : )

Arien  Valar — Today at 5:27 PM
builds paper arrow and throws it to Auros

Varda — Today at 5:27 PM
I tend to keep cuts. cough
"Less than a minute later, the goblin's body went over the side, Fainan cleaning her knife as she watched it hit the ground. "

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:27 PM
Okay,  perhaps not as high velocity. But still!

Varda — Today at 5:27 PM
: )
[5:28 PM]
But that is not what's needed if we're going to grab all the papers and run.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:28 PM
Finding out there are orcs would lead to quite the discussion between Auros and Telperos, which is not without its possibilities, but again, would lead to a whole other list of things to deal with, hehe.

Varda — Today at 5:28 PM
We can spot some orcs coming up the path talking, not expecting anything.
[5:29 PM]
They would be coming from elsewhere, heading our way. Maybe the relief.
[5:29 PM]
Or with supplies.
[5:29 PM]
That would not be a problem from the Telperos clean-up.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:29 PM
Telperos established no one is expected for 5 days. Anything arriving before that is not part of "the plan" the orcs he was dealing with are part of.

Varda — Today at 5:30 PM
ah, then that's out.
[5:30 PM]
So, what's the plan?
[5:30 PM]
Five days can be a lot of sifting.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:31 PM
Not saying some couldn't arrive early, say on day four, heh, but day 0 would be a tad premature :} Anything arriving that early would have to be a third party.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:31 PM
So we need to do something in town for 4 days.
[5:32 PM]
*need to find something to do

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:32 PM
Which again, isn't without possibilities but creates problems too.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:32 PM
4 days of hauling hay later...

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:33 PM
Auros is going to sit in a spooky voice haunted cellar end spooky voice looking through papers :}

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:33 PM
Yep, and 4 days later we'll see him with scruffy hair and an unwashed face, having lost total track of time.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:33 PM
Telperos is probably going to be helping patrol, chatting it up with the others as he does so.
[5:36 PM]
Someone with keen eyesight has to keep an eye out in a vantage point along the wall to make sure no one shows up to the party early unexpectedly (unless we have infiltrators already, but even then we'd still need a watch on the wall).

Arien  Valar — Today at 5:36 PM
well Frali could do some patroling .. kind of rotating duties .. you know each party member rotating through different activities over say four hours after two such shifts maybe meal break then the night be divided in guard shifts?

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:36 PM
As of last post, Fainan was on vantage duty I think?

Varda — Today at 5:37 PM
Eonwe said the fog would prevent seeing stuff from the sentry tower, etc.
[5:37 PM]
We can take shifts digging through papers.
[5:38 PM]
With luck, we don't need the whole 4 or 5 days.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:38 PM
The fog was rather thick when we arrived, aye.

Varda — Today at 5:38 PM
Mirky? : )

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:38 PM
Doesn't mean we'll have fog for 5 days :}

Varda — Today at 5:38 PM
I wonder if it's evil fog.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:38 PM
Would be funny if the fog lifted and there was an entire batallion of orcs keeping watch outside, who hadn't noticed us...
[5:39 PM]
Your definition of "funny" might vary.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:39 PM
I left for the possibility that it's not an entirely natural fog.
[5:40 PM]
The shadows certainly are not all natural.
[5:41 PM]
And sure Phar, it's all fun and games until an orc pokes out its eye with an elvish arrow :}

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:41 PM
In that case, attempting to get rid of it might draw attention.

Varda — Today at 5:42 PM
The orcs might be kept away from important papers, bulls in the china shop.

Arien  Valar — Today at 5:42 PM
papers for Mordor human servants such as Necromancers or Dark Mages
[5:43 PM]
Angmarim as such#
[5:43 PM]
they could have conjured up the fog as well#

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:44 PM
Someone had to be smart enough to gather these papers from wherever they came. Question becomes if the person who did so had help, or if they did it themselves, and over how many years were they gathering them. Not that we need to deal with that much in story, hehe.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:44 PM
Also, fog is hell on paper.
[5:45 PM]
So they wouldn't cast fog in the storage place, anyway.

Arien  Valar — Today at 5:46 PM
no but maybe on parts of the town to hide its true size ?

Varda — Today at 5:46 PM
A library with protection? Yet not inside a "town"? Why so far from Gundabad or Angmar proper?

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:47 PM
Because the person gathering this couldn't risk it being in a major city. The idea being this remote location allowed for privacy and seclusion while it sought the information it needed.
[5:49 PM]
So probably not exactly on the best of terms with, or at least not trusting, the potential inhabitants of those locations.

Arien  Valar — Today at 5:51 PM
a reenegade would be tyrant?
[5:51 PM]
or would be necromancer?

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:52 PM
Someone trying to reunite the two pieces of the glaive. Then again, for all we know, the person already got the information they needed and was too foolish to destroy the evidence, or saw no point.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:52 PM
Just a minion of Sauron with a justified distrust of orcish subtlety would be enough.

Varda — Today at 5:52 PM
And yet one Noldo can take out all its protection and gain access.
[5:53 PM]
Or he did destroy the glaive info. The rest has nothing much to do with it. Lucky us. : )

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:53 PM
hehehe

Varda — Today at 5:53 PM
See "red herring" protection.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:53 PM
Hey, that's not RP-ish at all.
[5:53 PM]
If we're wasting time digging through information, there's always at least some hint as to what we need. That's how RPs work.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:54 PM
"I carried out my sinister plan twenty minutes before you got here."
[5:54 PM]
Aye, there has to be some point in Auros going through all that paper while the rest of you enjoy the sun :}

@Ar-Pharazon-V
If we're wasting time digging through information, there's always at least some hint as to what we need. That's how RPs work.

Shelob — Today at 5:55 PM
That's how badly planned RP's work.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:55 PM
Auros, sitting bent over a table in a dreary dungeon of a cellar while the rest of you are frolicking above grumble lol :}

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:55 PM
starts a hayball fight with Fainan

Shelob — Today at 5:55 PM
Especially if you consider that you get plenty of hints in the fact that you're wasting your time rummaging through rubbish.

Arien  Valar — Today at 5:55 PM
frali starts playing man in the middle

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:56 PM
Ok, because of Phar and Shelob,... this link incoming:

[5:59 PM]
More seriously...

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:59 PM
After half a minute of watching that vid and now that comment I'm expecting a red herring.

Shelob — Today at 5:59 PM
"STUPID! YOU'RE SO STUPID!"

Arien  Valar — Today at 5:59 PM
love it hehe .. nice parody

Eonwë Valar — Today at 6:00 PM
UHF is a movie to watch if you haven't already :}

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 6:00 PM
I wonder if this was the inspiration for the "Red Snappa" WoW video.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 6:01 PM
It was :}

Varda — Today at 6:01 PM
Anyway, the rest of us could be drafted to help become bleary-eyed looking through papers. Could be in shifts so we can go all day and all night.
[6:01 PM]
Tell us keywords. : )

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 6:01 PM
Would Auros trust us not to overlook the information we need?

Varda — Today at 6:01 PM
No, but he might have to let us help anyway. Time's a problem.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 6:01 PM
That's the crux of Auros' problem.

Arien  Valar — Today at 6:01 PM
in between shifts forage for supplies?

Varda — Today at 6:02 PM
Tell us keywords and we take the paper to you to check?

Arien  Valar — Today at 6:03 PM
hmmm keywoard pillow and toothpaste ...

Eonwë Valar — Today at 6:04 PM
Auros knows what he's looking for, but who else does? Frali might not be able to sit there through a mountain of papers, but can Frali know if there's a feeling similar to the sword somewhere in the city? Possibly.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 6:04 PM
Don't paste it all over your pillow.

Varda — Today at 6:04 PM
We don't read every word, just scan for particular words.
[6:05 PM]
How big is this area? Can Frali check it out in one day? What's the distance needed?

Eonwë Valar — Today at 6:05 PM
It's possible we could be dealing with papers in many different languages. How many languages of Men do you Mirkwood Elves speak? :}

Varda — Today at 6:05 PM
Laketown men, rangers at least, common.

Arien  Valar — Today at 6:05 PM
sorry just was looking for a gentle hint to say it s getting bed time for me

Varda — Today at 6:08 PM
Educated Calion and frizzing haired Fainan looking over papers with Auros, using key words to pass him potential papers.
[6:09 PM]
That cover it?

Eonwë Valar — Today at 6:10 PM
Auros would probably end up doing a cursory glance over it all to determine a language, or close proximity, if he were going to pass it to someone.
[6:12 PM]
And hope he doesn't come across something he doesn't understand, lol.
[6:14 PM]
Or maybe he does :}
[6:15 PM]
Any of you Mirkwood Elves ever fire an orcish bow? :}

Varda — Today at 6:15 PM
Fainan most probably has.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 6:15 PM
In a pinch, perhaps.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 6:15 PM
Ok good, so Auros doesn't have to start an orc war all by himself :}

Varda — Today at 6:15 PM
Curiosity at least.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 6:16 PM
Then again, when you're in combat with orcs, replacing your bow is a less likely scenario than having to replace your arrows.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 6:16 PM
Unless you use it as a club. cough

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 6:16 PM
True

Eonwë Valar — Today at 6:17 PM
:}

Varda — Today at 6:17 PM
I figure after a battle, a person interested in bows will want to check out the odd ones, curiosity, know thy enemy.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 6:17 PM
Hey, sometimes the wargs are charging at you, and you have little time to react, and your only choice is to shove the bow in the warg's open maw :}

Varda — Today at 6:17 PM
What can we expect their bows to be able to do? What are weak and strong points?
[6:17 PM]
Chew that!
[6:18 PM]
Prefer to shove the orc's bow in that maw. : )

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 6:18 PM
Crude. Less accurate at distance. More force behind it, perhaps.

Varda — Today at 6:19 PM
The bows normally used in a forest and from up high would have to be short distance recurves, strong enough to handle hitting leaves and maybe twigs, or find areas with some space between obstructions and move quickly afterwards.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 6:19 PM
True.

Varda — Today at 6:19 PM
Shooting down is hard.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 6:19 PM
I don't know if they'd be "crude". Ugly, likely as effective as the average elven/human bow. Crude compared to Numenoreans/Noldor/those influenced by them perhaps.

Varda — Today at 6:20 PM
Mass-produced. : )
[6:20 PM]
I would expect mass-produced as part of JRRT's dislike of industry and love of craft.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 6:20 PM
Probably more affected by the quality of the materials than the craftsmanship.
[6:21 PM]
There's a passage somewhere that says weapons were one thing orcs did well, so I don't expect them to be too far behind in that respect.

Varda — Today at 6:21 PM
We silvans have plenty of  wood and longevity to learn to craft our own bows to our personal measurements and abililties.
[6:25 PM]
Do we have a plan now? Frali hunting for the feels with Telperos guarding and the rest taking shifts at reading?

Eonwë Valar — Today at 6:26 PM
I don't know, heh.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 6:26 PM
Can't skip the hay baling!

Eonwë Valar — Today at 6:26 PM
I must go afk for a moment.

Which cipher, Phar? I didn't pay that much attention apparently.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 6:44 PM
The 9.2 link, Decode the Cypher of the First Ones heading
[6:44 PM]
I saw a screenshot of the interface.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 6:44 PM
Ah.
[6:45 PM]
That would explain why I didn't find it: When I did the page search I spelled it "cipher" like you did :}

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 6:45 PM
Ah yes, sorry

Eonwë Valar — Today at 6:46 PM
:}

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 6:50 PM
Hard to decipher a cypher.
[6:50 PM]
Or decypher a cipher.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 6:50 PM
Please recypher :}
[6:53 PM]
I'm not sure we really settled anything for the RP, but I suppose I've got a few more ideas.
[6:54 PM]
I just hope I'm not the only one getting ideas :}

Eonwë Valar — Today at 7:12 PM
Quick notes on some of the stuff we discussed. My apologies, I ended up more distracted than I expected to be.
[7:12 PM]
1.) RE: "Telperos established no one is expected for 5 days. Anything arriving before that is not part of "the plan" the orcs he was dealing with are part of.
Varda — Today at 5:30 PM
ah, then that's out.
So, what's the plan?"

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 7:14 PM
Is it a cunning plan?

Eonwë Valar — Today at 7:15 PM
The "plan" I'm referring to here is what the villian is setting up for the guarding and provisioning of his little research hideaway.
[7:16 PM]
Namely, anyone arriving earlier is unlikely to serve the villian.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 7:16 PM
Could be a general patrol.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 7:18 PM
Patrol implies a centralized command to issue such orders, and would either be part of the villain's minions, and probably mentioned/expected by the orcs that were there, or part of someone else's forces and not under his control.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 7:19 PM
True.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 7:20 PM
This area is supposed to be isolated, making it ideal for sneaking all this info in to sift through.
[7:21 PM]
Not saying a third party can't get involved, but then we have to account for the complications that causes.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 7:24 PM
That does seem a bit much

Eonwë Valar — Today at 7:25 PM
And by "third party" I don't necessarily mean another villian out there interfering. Could be something as simple as a rogue band of orcs roaming and pillaging, but our characters aren't necessarily going to know that.
[7:28 PM]
That's why I'm not saying that it "can't" work, but we have to make sure we're accounting for it from our characters' perspectives, their reactions, what they're going to be able to know and discover, and how they're going to react based on the information they can get.
[7:30 PM]
And I had a second one to comment on if I can remember where it was, hehe.

RE: "Varda — Today at 5:52 PM
And yet one Noldo can take out all its protection and gain access."
I don't expect there was any sort of "magical barrier" or anything to get through, but if there were apparently Telperos broke through it before we got there, heh.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 7:33 PM
It probably also involves all the present minions

Eonwë Valar — Today at 7:34 PM
hehe
[7:34 PM]
There was also one in there about taking turns to read papers day and night.
[7:35 PM]
Telperos wouldn't like that :} He's already warned us about being down in that cellar at night.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 7:36 PM
It's fine, we'll go with 2 people down there

Eonwë Valar — Today at 7:36 PM
heh

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 7:37 PM
Also, how hard is it to carry some paperwork to our shelter for during the night?

Eonwë Valar — Today at 7:38 PM
I considered that, but would Auros risk the paperwork getting out of order? Or if there is some ill will on that paperwork we don't want to bring into our only sanctuary.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 7:38 PM
Interesting point.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 7:39 PM
So far the orcs have ignored, or perhaps outright avoided, the guardhouse we're going to be using. It's the reason Telperos chose it.
[7:42 PM]
I have ideas as to why, that I may or may not go through with, heh. I'm undecided.
[7:44 PM]
For now that, what matters is that it's not been defiled by orcs.
[7:44 PM]
Or by whatever malevolent force roams the town at night.

Varda — Today at 7:44 PM
Before I forget, Frali can react like a fidget or wince every time he is near the side of you that has the "sword". Auros would notice. (edited)
[7:45 PM]
Drag a batch of papers outside the area Telperos is worried about and read them in the open night air? Might even mess with the "keep away" spell.
[7:46 PM]
Mark where it came from with something large.
[7:46 PM]
A malevolent force roaming the town at night... I wonder if we can enlist it to help read. Maybe not.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 7:47 PM
If it's malevolent it'll probably just lie about what it says.

Varda — Today at 7:47 PM
We'd all love to hunt it down. Beats paperwork. Wonder if it is afraid of the sword or drawn to it? Frali sensitive to it too and gets snarly and throws an axe wherever it tries to be?

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 7:48 PM
No elf would look twice at a dwarf just randomly throwing axes around. It's just their way!

Eonwë Valar — Today at 7:49 PM
The Elves would likely perceive it more clearly than the Dwarf.
[7:49 PM]
If it has a form to perceive.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 7:49 PM
Anyway, I'll start my personal gaming report before my eyes shut down  Feel free to keep discussing this as I go.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 7:50 PM

Which reminds me that I need to make sure I add a link for this meeting into the Forum discussion thread when the meeting minutes go up, lol :}

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 7:52 PM
https://www.kongregate.com/games/VasantJ/wolfs-bane is the first game! And apparently one of the few games in the Medieval Cop franchise I didn't have the badge for yet. This one's the first in a sort of spinoff series featuring another cop team in another kingdom.
    Kongregate
    Wolf's Bane
In a world full of Sheep,
    dare to be a Wolf...

[7:53 PM]
Play a rather odd cop who's known for sleeping around, has a good mood... but don't look in her eyes because there's something lupine hidden there, which can be useful in solving cases
[7:53 PM]
Ehr. Sleeping around as in sleeping in various places while on the job, rather than adultery.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 7:54 PM
Aha, heh. Thanks for the clarity :}

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 7:55 PM
In this short-ish case, someone's been murdered in a pub and the barkeeper's considered guilty, but there's more going on!
[7:55 PM]
In fact, Eonwe, her introduction in the main series was when someone found her sleeping in a box in a hallway.

[7:56 PM]
https://www.kongregate.com/games/IriySoft/cursed-treasure is the second game, and the first in a series of which I linked the second one last week  Also remastered, though the badges carry over.
    Kongregate
    Cursed Treasure
NOTE: THIS IS NOT A NEW GAME!
This is a HTML5 port of Cursed Treasure: Don#39t Touch My Gems.
Protect your gems from being stolen by “good” heroes in this towe...

Tower defense game, once again with 3 types of towers on 3 types of terrain. But there's less of a penalty in specializing down one skill tree at first, since the overall buffs from the trees now affect all the tower types. Though there's still a slight advantage to the specific types, certainly at the end of the trees.
[7:57 PM]
Once again, protect your gems from incoming invaders
[7:58 PM]
And upgrade everything along the way until it becomes too easy

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 8:14 PM
https://www.kongregate.com/games/PasKuda13/coloruid-2-html5 for the third game! A fun colory puzzle game where you  have to turn all the plus-signs the same color, by letting one color spread through another, with a limited amount of moves.
    Kongregate
    COLORUID-2 [HTML5]
Fill each level with a single color, by painting and merging existing colors within a limited amount of moves.

[8:14 PM]
Starting in the center's often a good tip

Blizzard gaming:
[8:25 PM]

Hearthstone:
Made it to 127 on the reward track. More gold! Also got Demon Hunter to level 44 along the way, 16 to go
[8:26 PM]
Brawl is Hallucination: Choose a class, get a few random class cards and a whole bunch of Hallucination cards which prompt you to discover cards from your opponent's class.
[8:27 PM]
Key seems to be picking a class that's less useable by the other side, such as warlock or warrior. Demon Hunter not recommended because they have a smaller pool of cards, and usually among the better ones
[8:29 PM]
For mercenaries, got 5 free packs as part of this patch (delivered this week rather than previous) through which I got 2 new mercs and, since that completed my rare merc collection, several portraits, including 2 for Cariel, whose collection is now complete. The new mercenaries are Mr. Smite from the new set, and Malfurion Stormrage as a legendary mercenary. Yay legendaries!
[8:31 PM]
The more mercs I get and the higher level they become, the rarer it is to get a quest from a low level one, which means I can do higher bounties and blaze through them for more xp, so my chosen team is getting up nicely  Maybe I'll even get to continue Felwood next week!
[8:32 PM]

WoW:
[8:33 PM]
Still no raiding progress, and struggling a bit on bosses we'd already gotten. But we're starting to recruit a few new consistent people so things are looking up
[8:34 PM]
Weekly is timewalks, with some changed out this time around! For Draenor this week I actually got to see the train dungeon again, lot of fun
[8:35 PM]
In Torghast, got a few layers 11 done, and got enough Knowledge to buy the empowered nova. Seems pretty nifty, certainly gets me some more kills while empowered, and that ups the score.
[8:35 PM]
Pretty much out of useful upgrades though, so I'm not sure if I'll be able to progress much further until 9.2 and new gear.
[8:36 PM]
Or maybe upgrading the shards of domination will help? We'll see.
[8:36 PM]
No new renown as I'm still not doing the weekly quests for it. I'll get em through Korthia, darnit
[8:37 PM]
No other goodies either, still collecting some anima for stuff, and no luck in conservatory this week.
[8:38 PM]
And finally, the paladin alt! Now nearing 48, I got the final class follower through the 7.2 questline, and since 9.1.5 you don't need to complete the whole of the Broken Shore questline anymore after that to start the class mount questline, so that's what I did.
[8:39 PM]
Unfortunately... for paladin at least, you need Suramar progress to continue, since you need the disguise to talk to a vendor.
[8:40 PM]
I know I won't get there before 48, but I decided starting on the Suramar intro was as good a way as any to get that last half level I needed, so that's what I'm doing now until 48. I could finish collecting the mount when I get there, but I think it's better to leave that as a future project and just head into the Shadowlands.
Still, as far as horses go, they're pretty nice...
Anyway, after pally's done with pre-SL, I think I'll leave her to rest for a bit and get my rogue through his class campaign. Gotta change it up a bit!

Varda — Today at 8:45 PM
: )

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 8:46 PM
Oh, and speaking of alts, for anniversary event tomorrow, I should probably check green dragons' loot tables in case my paladin and mage can use something, since they're about the right level now. Rogue should already be done.
[8:47 PM]
But there'll also be a new worldboss this year, able to drop a mount, a toy and an axe... I'll want to try for those as well, mustn't forget!
[8:47 PM]
As well as a new pet, but that's vendorbought
[8:49 PM]
And that's my report for the week!
[8:53 PM]
Y'know, I'm not actually sure there's any loot my paladin can get that my druid and/or warrior couldn't...
[8:53 PM]
But my mage will have a lot of work to do

Varda — Today at 8:57 PM
Thank you, Phar the Busy. : )

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 9:07 PM
Well, namarie!
