In our group chatting just now, which races do we have represented?
[4:35 PM]
Two ents just mentioned

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:35 PM
Really trying not to say night elf.
[4:36 PM]
But human it is.

Varda — Yesterday at 4:36 PM
(A side mention: Eonwe asked us in Harbor about food plants in Middle-earth. Our Plants section is in dire need of more articles like that. Not even taters listed!)

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 4:36 PM
Human , Maia, Valar,.. i mean they are all Ainur
[4:36 PM]
so i guess that counts as one

Varda — Yesterday at 4:36 PM
Children of Eru, you mean?

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:36 PM
Elwing's... let me think...

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:37 PM
Some Elves, at least one Hobbit.

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 4:37 PM
Human , Ents, Elves

Varda — Yesterday at 4:37 PM
Elwing is pretty tricky! We could even put her under bird or time or dawn light.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:37 PM
Hmm, have to go into fractions here.
[4:38 PM]
1 part ainur, 2 parts human, and... 13 parts elf?
[4:38 PM]
No, that's not right.
[4:38 PM]
5 parts elf.
[4:39 PM]
Oh, and while I say human for me, Elwing's also in my ancestry.

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:39 PM
So is Melian by that same token.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:40 PM
Yes, I guess that wasn't clear
[4:40 PM]
The composition of Elwing's heritage is also present in Pharazon's.

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:40 PM
So Elrond and Phar basically represent most of the options just by themselves.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:41 PM
Add do that that several of his ancestors from the line of Elwing married others descended from Elwing, and the exact heritage is somewhat of a pain to calculate

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:41 PM
If we're counting ancestry and not just to which group they officially belong to.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:41 PM
Myes. Elwing did decide to join the fate of Elves.

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:42 PM
And Anarion. Another one of those pesky Dunedain.
[4:42 PM]
Descended from the Lords of Andunie, which also have ties to the royal bloodline.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:42 PM
Yep.

Varda — Yesterday at 4:42 PM
I'm just a plain old Ainur, Valie to be picky.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:43 PM
Technically the elder line, too, by oldest sister.
[4:43 PM]
I always liked that detail.

Varda — Yesterday at 4:43 PM
Elwing helped Earendil decide to join the elves.
[4:44 PM]
hmm, I need to check on that.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:44 PM
Well, "helped"... he preferred Men but joined his wife instead.
[4:45 PM]
Seems a bit sad.
[4:45 PM]
...And without that capital M that would sound quite weird.

Varda — Yesterday at 4:46 PM
Elwing was mother to Elrond and Elros, daughter of Dior
[4:46 PM]
Dior son of Beren and Luthien

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:47 PM
And evidently no one thought Dior having mortal blood was a problem in ruling over an Elven kingdom.
[4:47 PM]
Well, none of the Sindar who came back when he took up the mantle anyway.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:47 PM
If Elros had not chosen the mortal fate, would the royal line of Numenor have been immortal, or would someone else have become the first king?

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:47 PM
I suspect someone else would've become the first king.

Varda — Yesterday at 4:47 PM
I think it would have been another king, just a guess.

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:48 PM
The point was to have Men ruling their own affairs.
[4:48 PM]
That's part of the reason the Elves gave them separate lands too.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:48 PM
Which we did so well!

Varda — Yesterday at 4:48 PM
Earendil was son of Tuor and Idril, another mess. : )
[4:49 PM]
(Frodo-V just came online in LotRO)

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 4:50 PM
That's a Hobbit

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:50 PM
Hobbitses.

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:50 PM
With the wording in the Silmarillion, it makes one wonder about exactly what problems were being caused. Sure, interactions between Men and Elves could be rough if they're occupying the same space, but despite what we're told about the official numbers of unions, it wouldn't seem that far fetched to me that that also became a concern at some point.

Varda — Yesterday at 4:50 PM
Starting to look like a problem and it affected the Afterlife.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:51 PM
You'd think Eru would have kept that in mind when creating them.
[4:51 PM]
Maybe make them unable to crossbreed.

Varda — Yesterday at 4:51 PM
They are reminded that they are all more or less one, all siblings.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:51 PM
Instead he let them cross and it had to be solved on an individual basis.

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:52 PM
Not to create any points of interest for a bad fanfic, heh. But considering in Morgoth's Ring it's mentioned a certain male Elf falling in love with a mortal woman, even if they didn't get together. Elves in general are more steadfast in their commitments than mortals, so if they fall in love like that, they're basically off the market.

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 4:52 PM
in the animal world two races can crossbreed only once since offspring tends to be infertile

Varda — Yesterday at 4:52 PM
I wonder if that was cleared up for him after going to Valinor?

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:52 PM
That's actually a condition for identifying different species, Arien

Varda — Yesterday at 4:52 PM
Maybe that's one reason they needed to choose?

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:53 PM
Hence why dogs are all still the same species.

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 4:55 PM
Zebrorses or the famous Ligers ~

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:55 PM
Don't forget mules.

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 4:55 PM
true

Varda — Yesterday at 4:56 PM
Yet a human and elf cross seems to be able to have children.
[4:56 PM]
So why would Eru have set it up that way? Phar makes an interesting point.
[4:56 PM]
Never expected to be interested in each other? Supposed to not be in the same area?

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:57 PM
A sign of how close they were in origin? The wedge was driven between them.

Varda — Yesterday at 4:57 PM
If Morgoth had not gotten to Mankind so quickly, I wonder how it would have gone instead.

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 4:58 PM
right then .. my time has come i fear .. interesting topic .. i ll be happy to read up

Varda — Yesterday at 4:58 PM
We are coming up on the hour. : )
[4:58 PM]
Many of us need to go, handle sleep and Mother's Day activities.

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:59 PM
In Morgoth's Ring, Andreth tells of ancient legends of her people that say that Mankind was in origin immortal like Elves, but they were more impatient for knowledge, not willing to discover for themselves.

Varda — Yesterday at 4:59 PM
Immortal? Ah hah! The major problem.

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:59 PM
That's how Morgoth snared them

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 4:59 PM
Namarie for now  have fun

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:59 PM
I thought that was a rumor fed to them by Morgoth to make them fear death rather than embrace it as their intended fate.

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:59 PM
He gave them the results of the knowledge, but rarely the knowledge itself.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:00 PM
Namarie!

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:00 PM
Sleep well Arien :}

Varda — Yesterday at 5:00 PM
Namarie!

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:01 PM
The Silmarillion could be seen as an Elvish take on it :} Their perspective is that if they die and leave the cirlcles of the World, that must be their intended fate, but they don't have first-hand knowledge of Mankind's creation or first days.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:01 PM
So... it's possible they were intended to remain, but Eru gave them a new fate because... curiosity?

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:02 PM
Even Mankind barely has that, and they weren't terribly willing to share it when they met the Eldar.

Varda — Yesterday at 5:02 PM
Or more like laziness?

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:02 PM
Even so. Seems a bit drastic.
[5:02 PM]
"Well, if you're gonna be like that, we don't want you here (forever)."

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:03 PM
Well, as the tale from Andreth goes, they - as a people, mind you - rejected Eru ("the Voice" in the tale) and took Morgoth as their god-king.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:04 PM
Yeah, but surely Morgoth does not have the power to alter their fate.

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:04 PM
OK, let me back up a bit, because this does require a short synopsis.
[5:04 PM]
Here is the short version of this tale:

Varda — Yesterday at 5:05 PM
(article material!)

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:05 PM
Mankind created. The Voice (Eru) speaks to them. Encourages them to grow and learn.
[5:06 PM]
Mankind doesn't want to discover knowledge for themselves. They want the knowledge given to them without any of the hard work.
[5:07 PM]
Many of the stop listening to the Voice because it's a "Well, no point in talking to you if you're not going to give me exactly what I want."

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:07 PM
Diplomacy?

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:08 PM
Morgoth comes around, probably already had spies in the area, knows what Mankind wants. Gives them the results of knowledge, but very little actual knowledge. Makes them dependant on him.
[5:08 PM]
Puffs himself up. When someone brings up "The Voice" he gets mad, storms off.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:09 PM
Never trust a god that throws a tantrum.

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:10 PM
Then there's some seemingly cataclysmic event (likely created by Morgoth himself) - blotting out of the sun or some such, ground shaking, etc. Really frightening.
[5:11 PM]
Morgoth comes back, demands they worship him if they want it to stop. They agree to do so.
[5:12 PM]
The Voice talks to them one last time, basically tells them "Free Will. You've made your choice, but you will now be mortal and come to me and judge for yourself who was lying , Melkor or Me."

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:12 PM
Huh, so that's it.

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:12 PM
Ensue all the things that normally happen when Melkor or Sauron run the show.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:13 PM
Eru changed their fate so they could come before him.

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:13 PM
Some of those people finally get tired enough of it to head West.
[5:13 PM]
After generations.
[5:16 PM]
Essentially.
[5:17 PM]
Unlike Elves, who may have fallen on an individual or group basis, never outright rejected Eru as a whole. Apparently, according to this legend, Mankind did.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:17 PM
So basically, when a halfblood needs to choose between the fate of men or elves, they choose between their original fate, or facing Eru.
[5:17 PM]
Even if they don't know it.

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:18 PM
Well, eventually everyone's going to end up before Eru, just some end up there faster than others I guess.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:18 PM
Heh, true.

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:19 PM
Would be interesting to see what would've made the final cut on that tale if Tolkien had had more time.

Varda — Yesterday at 5:19 PM
There is never enough time for a writer. : )

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:20 PM
Aye :}
[5:21 PM]
On one hand the version in the Sil is a good one. On the other, that legend does explain the "Shadow" on the past of Mankind and why they wouldn't want to talk about it.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:21 PM
True, I don't think there ever would've been a "final cut" if he'd live to 200

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:22 PM
Thirdly, even if it is a true tale, that doesn't negate the possibility of "Arda Healed", where the Numenoreans (particularly the kings, at least) are given the grace to lay down their lives when they feel old age coming on, and still have their wits about them, rather than have life rent from them.

Varda — Yesterday at 5:23 PM
A lot of the items in the Histories can still work with the Sil and LotR and H.

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:23 PM
Aye.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:24 PM
And then there's the bit about the moon being a fortress of Morgoth...

Varda — Yesterday at 5:24 PM
I think Tilion would take issue with that. : )

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:24 PM
I could soooo make a Gurren Lagann reference right now....

Varda — Yesterday at 5:24 PM
He fought off the minions of Morgoth when they tried to take it.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:25 PM
That was part of adapting his work to the "new cosmology" of the solar system, as I recall.
[5:26 PM]
Let's just say some things are more compatible than others

Varda — Yesterday at 5:27 PM
True : )

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:28 PM
What do you mean a giant cat wearing a Ring sitting on a throne doesn't work? Haven't you people seen Puss in Boots? :}

Varda — Yesterday at 5:29 PM
Who says Tevildo couldn't put a ring on his very long claw? Or have fingers at will? : )

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:29 PM
:}
[5:29 PM]
Sauron the werecat :}

Varda — Yesterday at 5:30 PM
Cosmology is more like "space" than fingers anyway. : )

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:30 PM

afk

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:44 PM
Afk well :}

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:44 PM
I can never quote a phrase or a lyric without getting at least one word wrong.

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:47 PM
Yeah, well I've been closer to the mark than I was on this one, lol.
[5:48 PM]
Oh well, point is you have the clip now :}

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:48 PM
true!

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 6:16 PM
Oh, just upgraded my last item on my Anima Whatchamacallit to the second tier.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 6:16 PM
Ah, grats

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 6:16 PM
*just did it last night.
[6:17 PM]
Thought I was supposed to get an achievement getting all of them to each tier, but I didn't get one. Wondering now if I'm missing something.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 6:17 PM
Ehr, you should, yes.
[6:17 PM]
For higher anima rewards from quests and missions.
[6:17 PM]
(and raid)
[6:18 PM]
Might want to check your achievements. Not sure if you unlock it when starting the upgrade, or when it ends.

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 6:19 PM
OK, it gave it to me, it just didn't tell me it did.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 6:20 PM
yep, that could be it
[6:20 PM]
It's a more recent achievement, so might be a bit buggy.

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 6:21 PM
I think moved my Campaign a little too far along though. Some of these missions aren't so easy to beat, heh.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 6:21 PM
Yep, got that a while ago while getting the 4 pets  Took a lot of leveling to get back to a more reasonable winrate.

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 6:22 PM
And I thought they were putting the lowest level guy on bottom, but found a couple of lvl 38s mixed in with my lvl 42s, so I gotta hasten their catchup, heh.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 6:22 PM
Yeah, soulbinds are listed at the top.
[6:22 PM]
I've been having that trouble with Korayn.

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 6:25 PM
Not sure why the soulbinds matter any more than anyone else on the mission table.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 6:25 PM
Only thing I can think of is that there's an achievement for maxing out all 3.
[6:25 PM]
Might also be that their abilities are more powerful, but haven't really looked at that.
[6:26 PM]
Ah, yes. A quick glance tells me that they have 2 abilities and the rest one.
[6:26 PM]
So the idea is that they're more powerful, regardless of level.
[6:26 PM]
To a degree of course

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 6:30 PM
Fair enough I suppose.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 6:30 PM
Right now most of them are 42, a few are 41, and Korayn's 40.

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 6:32 PM
I'd been focusing on throwing the low level guys into the experience missions, thinking they were at the bottom. Little did I know there were a couple hanging out at the top, heh.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 6:32 PM
Myep, that's how I played it, which is why they're now so close together.

Personal gaming report!
[7:33 PM]
For (non)flashgaming, 1 new game, 2 old.
[7:39 PM]
https://www.kongregate.com/games/oultrox/cubito-mayhem is the new! A sort of defensive shooter where you play a cube in the middle of an arena, and have to fight other shapes spawning around you.
    Kongregate
    Cubito Mayhem
Cubito is a top-down arena shooter focused on bullet blocking mechanics, pew pew pew pew and some paw paw paw.

[7:40 PM]
Your attacks upgrade as you kill stuff, but the enemies get tougher and start spawning faster as well.
[7:40 PM]
Unique is that you can explode enemy projectiles with your own, making it a sort of tactical game which enemies to face, take out first, and turn to block them when needed.
[7:45 PM]
https://www.kongregate.com/games/eddynardo/sticky-sorcerer is the second game! Old one, part of a variation of games where you move around the levels with different abilities in each game, and rescue people from chests. In this one however... you put people in them, so I guess it's an origin story

Guild Wars:
Didn't have too much time this week, but did get one mission done in the Ring of Fire. 2 more for the Prophecies campaign.
[8:06 PM]
I did, however, get the second campaign, Faction, and it's sitting here right now, l'll install it when Prophecies is replayed  The next campaign, Nightfall, is delayed, but soon to arrive, and the expansion Eye of the North is here as well1
[8:06 PM]
I think I'll start digging into the Factions manual tomorrow
[8:07 PM]
Frankly, it's quite tempting to just pick one day a week to do a mission or quest, just so I can spread it out over the years
[8:09 PM]
C&C:
I got the entire Ultimate Collection now, code in a box  Will test it out in the coming weeks. The inside of the box also has a display of the publication chronology of all 17 games, with a small description, so that's a nice collection piece!
[8:10 PM]

Blizzard gaming:
[8:13 PM]
Heroes of the Storm:
Still 454. Been a busy week and didn't play too many games, though I did get to play some fun heroes again like D.Va and Auriel
[8:16 PM]
Hearthstone:
Level 70 on the reward track now. Experience per level still increasing, but I have good hopes for 100, since no new expansion has yet been announced
[8:17 PM]
And I've not missed any quests yet!
[8:18 PM]
Tavern Brawl is A Chance Encounter: Randomness galore. Choose a class, get random cards that all do something random, whether it is summon something random, damage something random, cast something random, or something else perhaps even more random!(edited)
[8:19 PM]
Not my type of brawl, took a few tries, but still, got it done
[8:19 PM]
WoW:
[8:20 PM]
Still raiding, though we're struggling with getting heroic Denathrius down a second time. People are getting used it again, though, so we'll get there soon.
[8:21 PM]
Weekly is battlegrounds, which is always fine with me as I bear through them, though we had a silvershard bg where we lost 1500 to 1498, which must be a record of some sort.
[8:25 PM]
With the conservatory at tier 5, things are getting complicated there... got my last Maldraxxus pet from 2-grain wildseeds, the Corpulent Bonetusk. Also got my last soulshape from there, the Gulper (frog), which means I'm done with 1-grain slots. So now I'm putting my Ardenweald spirits in 2-grain slots to get the 4 pets there, any other spirit in the 4-slot one for the higher cosmetics and mounts, while using the 1-grain slot for new catalysts when I need them.
[8:25 PM]
In fact, I was short on the grains, so stacked up a few of those in the wildseeds and now I'm back to a full stack again.
[8:26 PM]
Since I'm done with Soul Ash, I delved into the second layer of Twisting Corridors for my weekly Torghast run.
[8:27 PM]
Along the way I got 5 ravenous cell powers for the achievement, just leaving the one for the night fae invasion. Since that can be random on any layer, I guess I have no choice but to stack a ravenous cell every time and hope I get lucky eventually
[8:28 PM]
But with layer 2 done, got a new pet as a reward, the Death Seeker, an eye pet.
[8:29 PM]
And otherwise... all my conservatory features are now maxed out, getting me a couple of achievements, and allowing me to save anima for cosmetics!
[8:30 PM]
Starting with the Marasmius vendor, I got the Ursine and Tiger soulshapes, and 2 new cloak appearances
[8:30 PM]
Next up will be that vendor's mounts!
[8:30 PM]
Oh, and got Children's Week done for this year, with the Boralus orphan, getting me the third of his four pets, Scaley the lizard (edited)
[8:31 PM]
And next year, when I'm intending to finally have some max level alts... I'll still only need to do it once, for the fourth pet
[8:31 PM]
Speaking of alts... haven't had time for those this week either. Busy indeed.
[8:32 PM]
WoW projects and quests, my birthday, and a bit more of that launch game I mentioned last week  Maybe this week will be better!
[8:33 PM]
And that's my report for the week.
[8:35 PM]
Namarie!

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 8:36 PM
Sleep well Phar :}
[8:36 PM]
RP posts in case anyone's missed them :}

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 8:38 PM
Yeah, was thinking about that, but I think Calion's content with not commenting on Auros' character at this point, merely silently amused.
[8:38 PM]
I may come up with something else though.
[8:38 PM]
Well, goodnight

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 8:39 PM
Fair enough. I think we've figured out Auros isn't too concerned what others think of him, lol :} (Though he knows how he can be taken.)
[8:39 PM]
Sleep well :}
