Ar-Pharazon-V — 06/27/2021
Feeling warm >.>

Varda — 06/27/2021
Due to summertime?

Ar-Pharazon-V — 06/27/2021
Still, that's not really news, it doesn't take much, 20 degrees'll do it.
[4:06 PM]
Yep.

Varda — 06/27/2021
Twenty degrees change, aye, we can feel that.

Ar-Pharazon-V — 06/27/2021
No, 20C

[4:07 PM]
68 F?
[4:07 PM]
Sounds pretty cool, if I did that right

Ar-Pharazon-V — 06/27/2021
For a Texan maybe
[4:07 PM]
But I'm easily warm. I prefer about 15-18.

Varda — 06/27/2021
84 F and rainy here.

Ar-Pharazon-V — 06/27/2021
Last few weeks have gone up to 28 or so.

Eonwë Valar — 06/27/2021
97F and sunny here. 68F is a nice cool day.

Varda — 06/27/2021
So about 29 C here.

Ar-Pharazon-V — 06/27/2021
It's currently 22.5 here, in the evening. I'd like it less.

Varda — 06/27/2021
We've been having rain for weeks off and on. Keeps it from being so hot.
[4:09 PM]
Texas has a very wide range of temperatures. I'm by the coast.
[4:10 PM]
Heh, can you believe we're talking about the weather?
[4:10 PM]
If we don't like the weather here, we can just wait a minute.

Eonwë Valar — 06/27/2021
Best place to start with small talk? :}
[4:11 PM]
"This is an awful lot of weather we're having here."

Arien  Valar — 06/27/2021
13 degrees here
[4:11 PM]
Well then how about talking the weather in Middle Earth ?

Treebeard — 06/27/2021
Do hobbits have enough hair on their feet to travel in the snow comfortably?

Eonwë Valar — 06/27/2021
That and their leathery soles seemed to keep them on their feet walking up the Caradhras.(edited)

Ar-Pharazon-V — 06/27/2021
Not really shoe-wearers in general, I believe.

Arien  Valar — 06/27/2021
they seemed to struggle though as it got harsher and Boromir and Aragorn carried them I believe
[4:14 PM]
But i think that had to do with the amount of snow and not with the temperature

Eonwë Valar — 06/27/2021
That's how I rememeber it, Arien.

Ar-Pharazon-V — 06/27/2021
So if they'd had bigger feet...

Treebeard — 06/27/2021
...short legs and wading through waste deep snow, I think

Varda — 06/27/2021
The Stoors were the main wearers of foot-gear, but other hobbits were also said to wear it at times.

Ar-Pharazon-V — 06/27/2021
Snow-shoe size feet.

Varda — 06/27/2021
They did need to invent snow-shoes. : )

Eonwë Valar — 06/27/2021
The Lossoth used bone to that effect, as I recall.

Varda — 06/27/2021
The elves didn't need them so they weren't invented?

Eonwë Valar — 06/27/2021
I wonder about that.

Varda — 06/27/2021
Dwarves just went underground.

Ar-Pharazon-V — 06/27/2021
diggy diggy snow

Varda — 06/27/2021
Suppose elves could walk on mud?
[4:19 PM]
heh

Eonwë Valar — 06/27/2021
I imagine if any Elves wore boots, it would probably be the Noldor.

Ar-Pharazon-V — 06/27/2021
I bet they were pointy.

Varda — 06/27/2021
Seems as if they would all wear boots at least part of the time.

Eonwë Valar — 06/27/2021
It doesn't necessarily say the Elves of Mirkwood didn't wear boots so far as I remember, just that Legolas was wearing light shoes. Don't quote me on that though.

Varda — 06/27/2021
True that Legolas wore light shoes.
[4:20 PM]
That ability of walking on snow was never explained.

Eonwë Valar — 06/27/2021
And some Noldor at least had to wear dancing shoes to tap-dance around that oath everywhere they went :}  OK, bad joke :}

Varda — 06/27/2021
hahahaha

Ar-Pharazon-V — 06/27/2021
heh

Varda — 06/27/2021
And yet they couldn't escape, not even Finrod.

Ar-Pharazon-V — 06/27/2021
I know elven boots are a fantasy/rpg staple for lightness, agility and movement speed.

Eonwë Valar — 06/27/2021
Much like Aman, I suspect it's a quality of the wearer rather than the craft, so maybe Elves in heavy boots could walk on snow just as well. Maybe even Elves in cowboy boots.

Ar-Pharazon-V — 06/27/2021
Maybe Legolas' light shoes were heavy for anyone else?

Eonwë Valar — 06/27/2021
Hehe, now I'm thinking of Goku's weighted clothing.

Ar-Pharazon-V — 06/27/2021
Ah, yes
[4:26 PM]
"I'm not fighting at full strength!" takes off shirt and drops it to the ground, it leaves a small crater

Eonwë Valar — 06/27/2021
Anyway, I believe we've diverged quite alot from the intended path :}

Treebeard — 06/27/2021
I'm thinking of Legolas' 3000 year old foot calluses

Eonwë Valar — 06/27/2021
Ouch Fangorn, hehe.

Ar-Pharazon-V — 06/27/2021
I could see hobbits in oversized clogs.

Varda — 06/27/2021
This is too much fun so we need to sidestep into other fun. : )

[4:37 PM]
Varda also has some LotRO news, so I turn the floor over to her before reclaiming it for more Gaming News.(edited)

Varda — 06/27/2021
I figure that's just too much scattering of us, and fear the inconstance of these sorts of servers like with Ithil's demise.
[4:38 PM]
I can go ahead and set up a kin on each with a Fainan on each, but don't plan on making it anything unless Valarites want it.
Anor is just barely used and takes away from Landroval right now.
[4:39 PM]
If anyone has an opinion on it who actually plays LotRO, please feel free to let me know here, by email, or any other way that is comfortable for you.
I might do it just to preserve our good name.

Eonwë Valar — 06/27/2021
2 servers is my limit.

Varda — 06/27/2021
I would prefer to keep it to just Landroval. We made the Legendary servers but they were a bit too much stretching, it seemed to me.
[4:41 PM]
What it did do was keep the gamers to those willing to subscribe, and helped get groups for earlier instances.
[4:42 PM]
But since we have members who are monetarily or time challenged, Landroval's free to play helped us all get together.
[4:43 PM]
I do want to hear discussion on the matter and do intend to make the protective kin set-up if I can on the other servers.
If you want to use your own favorite name on those servers, that might be an incentive. Otherwise, I don't expect much.
Feel free to change my mind. : )
.
[4:44 PM]
In other news,
[4:45 PM]
the Midsummer Festival is going, celebrating the wedding of Aragorn and Arwen.

[4:45 PM]
We have also been grouping a bit more.
[4:46 PM]
Frodo's family grouped today with Fangorn and myself to do some instance running: Othrongroth, the first two, to set us up for Sambrog.
[4:46 PM]
Midsummer can be done together also.

Eonwë Valar — 06/27/2021
That's what the removal of glasses are for, Phar, lol.

Varda — 06/27/2021

Arien  Valar — 06/27/2021

Eonwë Valar — 06/27/2021
Or the wearing of the rose-colored kind. Take your pick, hehehe.

Varda — 06/27/2021
We have also been doing a bit of other running.

Arien  Valar — 06/27/2021

Varda — 06/27/2021

[4:50 PM]
Give us an idea which characters to bring.

Arien  Valar — 06/27/2021
Aye its my Elf cappy Iocharien .. did a bit questing round there  she is 27 now and in Fornost are only the group quests left

Varda — 06/27/2021
So around level 27, 30, folks.

Arien  Valar — 06/27/2021
aye

Varda — 06/27/2021
Others of us at that level may not have been in the Fornost area yet. In fact, that's very likely. But we can give it a shot.

Arien  Valar — 06/27/2021
i think the epic book questline leads that way

Varda — 06/27/2021
Starcraft 2 played this past week by Fangorn, Eowyn, Faramir, and our grandson that I know of.
[4:55 PM]
We have other games (a lot as you can see on the side of this chat) but that's what I know of as grouped. : )
[4:56 PM]
Any other gaming news? Membership news?

Eonwë Valar — 06/27/2021

Eonwë Valar — 06/27/2021
Thanks.
[4:59 PM]
For my last piece of gaming news, I recently bought the Ninja Gaiden Master Collection Deluxe Edition on Steam. I'm a few chapters into the second game, so I thought I'd give a sort of review/first impression so far.
A few notes overall:
[5:01 PM]
These games are M rated, so they're not for kids. If you've played the Diablo series, you've seen more or less what to expect, just closer to the screen.
[5:03 PM]
The Master Collection utilizes the Sigma and Sigma+ versions of Ninja Gaiden and Ninja Gaiden 2 from Playstation consoles. There's a mixed bag of good and bad because of that, and most of my gripes are related to this choice rather than anything technically specific to the Master Collection.
[5:05 PM]

For Ninja Gaiden 3, it's the Razor's Edge version. I haven't got to this game yet, but based on when I played in on the XBox 360, I expect the language to be stronger and the graphic violence to be more in line with the original Ninja Gaiden 2 rather than Sigma 2 where it was toned down. I won't be commenting on the third game today.
Soundtrack/Artbook:
[5:06 PM]
My only disappointment here is that there's not an official way to extract this to be viewable outside of the program built to house it. I would have liked to actually add the music to my music folder.(edited)
[5:07 PM]
Ninja Gaiden Sigma:
[5:09 PM]
I'd say it's a mostly solid version of the game. It adds a few chapters where you can play a secondary character, and that's fun.
The sigma version does eliminate access to some places i.e. the Military base. It means you have to be sure you get everything from those locations the first time.
[5:10 PM]
It removes some doors, makes you have to take a longer way to get somewhere that in the original you could cut through certain paths.
It simplifies access to some items and areas and shortens the maps, which isn't necessarily a good thing.
[5:11 PM]
It uses the PS3/4 default controller scheme. Fortunately, can be adjusted.
[5:12 PM]
There's no New Game+ in this version, all the work collecting and upgrading weapons gets tossed aside.
[5:13 PM]
The worst part: someone got the "brilliant" idea of making the costumes obtained from beating the various difficulties affect stats, so you can't even just switch to a different costume for a different look like in the good versions of the game. (From the Sigma+ version)(edited)
[5:14 PM]
The XBox versions the costumes were cosmetic, affected no stats, so you could start a new game with a new look and not have to worry about what it meant for your attack, life, or defense.(edited)
[5:16 PM]
Overall the game is as enjoyable as I remember it, but the downsides do put a damper on replayability to me. I say this as a guy who's replayed the XBox versions several times already, hehe.
[5:17 PM]

Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2:
First impressions here.
[5:18 PM]
The biggest problem right now is directly related to this version: It crashes and freezes too readily. When it does, I have to shut it down from the Task Manager.
Blood/Gore toned down from original Ninja Gaiden 2. It's not particularly missed, more disappointed they caved to pressure to change it.
[5:19 PM]
Controller inputs locked to certain schemes, all based on PS controls. None of them are good to me, and only one is servicable.
This version of the game reduces Ryu's arsenal from the original version - not appreciated. The couple of new weapons added cannot make up for it.
[5:20 PM]
There's charging bowshots, no incendiary shuriken, no windmill shuriken.
[5:21 PM]
They added a large sword, which is serviceable so far, and a sawed-off shotgun with a long time from trigger pull to recovery, so I don't see a whole lot of use for it when the bow is faster and the melee weapons are the point. I guess we'll see though.(edited)
[5:22 PM]
The Trials of Valor were taken out (shame) and items they awarded scattered around the levels.
[5:23 PM]
Crystal Skulls (Collectible item) only reduce cost of items at shop now, so there's no really point except completion to get them now.
Some boss fights were added (ok), others changed (so far for the worse).
The worst change so far: You're only able to upgrade weapons at certain Muramasa shrines (Shopkeep/Blacksmith), and only one weapon at each shrine that allows it. That's a horrible design. If I have the currency to spend, I should be able to upgrade at any shrine just like the original.
[5:24 PM]
It was already gated behind chapter for how far a weapon could be upgraded anyway.(edited)
[5:25 PM]
Chapter Challenges allows playing a chapter again after it's been beaten. You get fully upgraded weapons but not fully upgraded health.
[5:26 PM]
Overall the game also feels easier than the original Ninja Gaiden 2.
If I judged it just by the limit on weapon upgrades and what they did to Ryu's arsenal, I'd say it's a worse game than the original. The additional content in the form of missions with secondary characters is the only thing that keeps it from being a complete downgrade.
[5:27 PM]
I can't see myself too excited about playing this one too many times, and that is again, coming from someone who played the original on XBox 360 several times already.(edited)
[5:30 PM]
That's it for my Review/First Impressions so far. When I complete Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, if I have anything to add I'll comment then, and again when I finish NInja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge.

[5:31 PM]
I return the floor to Varda. Thankfully, because of the gore adjustments in Ninja Gaiden 2 Sigma, the bodies of all the ninjas fallen for the making of this review will have vanished by the time she takes back up the gavel :}

Personal gaming report:
[6:34 PM]
(non)Flashgaming: 3 new games this week, 3 new badges!
[6:35 PM]
https://www.kongregate.com/games/TeamSemiColon/string-theory-2 is the first game, sequel to one I've probably mentioned in the past. The story of a scientist delving into a two-dimensional world through string theory, to save her lost colleagues.
    Kongregate
    String Theory 2
In search of her lost colleagues, Eva enters the second dimension. Will you help her find her way through this weird dimension, and get everyone back to the Up...

[6:36 PM]
It's a sort of physics puzzle game, where you manipulate lines to get the scientist(s) in their basic geometrical form to that particular form's exit.
[6:37 PM]
Very atmospheric take on line/string manipulation physics, with an interesting story around it

https://www.kongregate.com/games/spookydoorway/the-darkside-detective is the second game! A point and click detective game, specializing in ghostly stuff. 2 cases in this demo; I'd done the first one before for an easier badge, but this week the second one came up.

And after last time, I don't really have much more to add to that one, except it's just as fun as the other colors

Blizzard gaming:
[6:50 PM]
Heroes of the Storm:
Still level 456. I did have a rare quest combo that allowed me to play Sgt. Hammer, though, which is always a ton of fun
[6:56 PM]
Hearthstone:
Level 115 on the reward track, still getting more gold from there
[6:57 PM]
About halfway to the next hero skin.
[6:57 PM]
Brawl is murlocs! Choose a class, get random class spells and many murlocs.
[6:58 PM]
Randomness of course, but still fun  I go for that with shaman, since I'm now using the murloc hero skin for that class, and there might be occasional murloc-classspells in there too
[6:58 PM]
In all, very fitting combination!
[7:00 PM]
WoW:
[7:01 PM]
I was wrong last week about it being our last planned raid reset, since it was just an invite confusion as they'd put up next tier's invites early, and we were still planning one for this week.
[7:02 PM]
But we managed to get Denathrius down on tuesday, last day of the reset, getting our last few raiders their achievement, and decided to take a raidbreak after that after all
[7:04 PM]
Battlegrounds weekly! Brawl counted, which was good, but after that the going was slow. Did the epic battleground weekly from the pvp npcs at the same time, so started with a bunch of epic battlegrounds which I lost, but after that was done and I switched to random normal battlegrounds, wins came much more easily.
[7:04 PM]
But it's done, and my honor level is now 78, close to 79. Almost at the magic number of 80 which will finally unlock my last artifact appearance
[7:06 PM]
Beat the final campaign mission on the mission board! Got the fourth mount, in my case the Chittering Animite, a flying devourer mount. Looks very interesting
[7:07 PM]
Now all that's left on the mission board is to level my followers to 60 - first few have reached 50 now - and to complete the missing Maw missions. Which should get easier as they slowly inch their way to 60.
[7:08 PM]
Been spending more anima on the wild hunt vendor, buying a faewoven pack cloak appearance in my quest to buy em all. Next target is a new mount for 5k!
[7:10 PM]
Finally, alting! Completed an intermediate section of the class campaign for my paladin now, but it does indeed look like the next one starts at 45. So I sent her down to Azsuna, fighting some demons, helping some dragons and tracking down the first Pillar only to lose it to some naga who took it into the dungeon.
[7:11 PM]
I won't be going there at this point, but instead wrap up the remaining arcs of the zone and seeing how close I get to 45. I've gone from 36 to 41 so far, and leveling seems pretty smooth in this zone, rather than dialogue heavy class campaigning
[7:11 PM]
And that's my report for the week!
[7:12 PM]
(oh, and as 40 is the requirement for master flying, she can fly the fastest now!)
