[3:56 PM]
Heya all :}
Arien Valar — Today at 3:56 PM
heya
Eonwë Valar — Today at 3:56 PM
Went ahead and sent out of a 5 minute warning :}
Sandalf13 — Today at 3:56 PM
Hallo! Anyone home?
Eonwë Valar — Today at 3:57 PM
Varda hasn't mentioned anything about missing today, but if she's
not here by meeting time I'm going to begin on time.
Arien Valar — Today at 3:57 PM
she might be busy
[3:57 PM]
or the weather playing up
Eonwë Valar — Today at 3:57 PM
Aye.
[4:00 PM]
Ok, it's the hour.
[4:00 PM]
@Bounder Meeting time!
Shelob — Today at 4:00 PM
And I am here!
Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:00 PM
Elen Sila Lumenn Omentielvo!
Sandalf13 — Today at 4:00 PM
Speaking of weather - I drove across the Great Plains on
Wednesday, from Denver back home to Lincoln. I do not know if any
of you have heard about the storm that crossed the Great Plains on
Wed...I left Denver a little earlier than usual, and I was about
one hour ahead of the front. I was travelling 80 mph and the storm
kept up with me. Every time I passed a truck, I was afraid it
would blow over...cross winds of 70 to 80 mph. When I got home,
the temperature dropped 40 degrees in 4 hours. The rain ended with
snow. L:ife on the Plains is vigorous, to say the least...it
sometimes reminds me of the wilds of Eriador.
Arien Valar — Today at 4:01 PM
Welcome shelob
Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:01 PM
We'll try to get through the business quick and get on to Tolkien.
[4:01 PM]
I did hear something about that Sandalf, aye.
[4:02 PM]
I can imagine how hectic that was on the road. Never liked driving
in heavy storms.

A "white knuckle" drive.
Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:02 PM
Indeed.
[4:03 PM]
So, we have Eonwë, Arien, Shelob, and Sandalf. Anyone else want to
admit to being here? :}
Shelob — Today at 4:03 PM
I am glad of the temperate, if rather wet, sea climate of coastal
western europe.
Varda — Today at 4:03 PM
Aiya
Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:04 PM
Heya Varda :}
Varda — Today at 4:04 PM
Got a house full of people just before the meeting
[4:04 PM]
Admitting to running in here after Sauron heard my alarm go off
and said something. : )
Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:04 PM

Shelob — Today at 4:05 PM
Aiya to House Guests! And an especial Aiya to my good buddy

Sounds like wild weather!
Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:05 PM
Any other Membership news before we move on?

Elwing and Gimli and Gimli's wife are here. : )
Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:05 PM
Cool :}
[4:05 PM]
Heya to them :}
Varda — Today at 4:05 PM
And Gimli's wife's mom was here briefly.
[4:06 PM]
We were passing around presents and setting up snacks and meals,
passing around strawberry cake.
Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:06 PM
Sounds like loads of fun :}
Varda — Today at 4:06 PM
And for weather, we got a touch of Sandalf's. Gullywasher like a
lake that kept pouring down with plenty of lightning and thunder
immediately after.
Sandalf13 — Today at 4:07 PM
It sounds like a wonderful gathering! I am happy you are enjoying
the holidays.
Varda — Today at 4:07 PM
Some have to leave soon so I'm back and forth. Very happy that

Tolkien:
[4:22 PM]
So apparently there was this guy named Tolkien who wrote this book
called "The Lord of the Rings"... ever heard of it? ;}
Varda — Today at 4:23 PM
Did they make one from the movies?
Sandalf13 — Today at 4:23 PM
I thought it was "The Lord of the Flies."
Varda — Today at 4:23 PM
Maybe that was it.
Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:23 PM
Well there was a boulder with an ugly face on it that was rolled
onto the top of a statue in the place of its head....
Sandalf13 — Today at 4:24 PM
The fallen king that Frodo and Sam found near the crossroads was
never identified, as far as I know. Any clues?
Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:24 PM
There was a fell beast, and I seem to remember part of its
description was that it stank.
[4:24 PM]
Hmm...
[4:26 PM]
I don't recall who the old king was, or if it was mentioned. That
is an interesting question though.
Sandalf13 — Today at 4:28 PM
I always assumed it had to be one of the very early Kings of
Gondor, as the statue was located near the crossroads that linked
the north-south Ithilien Road with the road that traveled
east-west from Minas Ithil to Minas Anor...It would not have been
likely that a statue of a king of Gondor would have been placed
there after Minas Ithil fell into the hands of Sauron's minions.
Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:29 PM
I guess it would depend on when the statue was placed there. If I
had to hazzard a guess, Elendil might be a good one if it's old
enough, since it would be between where Isildur and Anarion were
ruling, and since he would be the first king of the Realms in
Exile.
Sandalf13 — Today at 4:29 PM
That is a real possibility indeed...
Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:30 PM
Since it's at a crossroads, it would be a good reminder to anyone
passing through Gondor who the High-King was.
Sandalf13 — Today at 4:31 PM
You may very well be right, but I guess we will never know for
sure, unless someone can find something Tolkien wrote about it in
his later writings.
Arien Valar — Today at 4:32 PM
when were Carchost and Narchost builtg, the two gate towers?
i believe originally they were built by the kings of Gondor
[4:33 PM]
and when that road was used it might be they built the statue at
the time
Sandalf13 — Today at 4:33 PM
I would think very soon after the defeat of Sauron at the start of
the Third Age. One of the gloomiest things Tolkien wrote about the
history of Gondor was..."and the watch on Mordor slept."
Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:35 PM
I feel like there is an answer to the question of who the king
that statue was modelled after, but I can't swear to it.
Sandalf13 — Today at 4:36 PM
If the thought jumps at you sometime, please let us know!
Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:41 PM
Before I go on a wild chase to try and find that tidbit of lore
(hehe), any other topics to discuss?
Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:41 PM
Aiya, catching up
Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:42 PM
Heya :}
[4:43 PM]
I'll toss in here real quick for Arien, Phar, and
Varda (though you may already know) that there's a post from me,
then from Varda in the RP.
Arien Valar — Today at 4:43 PM
Aiya
Sandalf13 — Today at 4:43 PM
Aiya Ar-Pharazon!
Varda — Today at 4:43 PM
Aragorn had the statue cleaned up and repaired.
[4:44 PM]
He would have known who it was, maybe somewhere in the books in
that vicinity?
[4:44 PM]
Going to have to do some looking.
Sandalf13 — Today at 4:44 PM
Yes he did...he started as he led the forces of the west
northwards on the road to the Gates of Mordor.
Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:44 PM
I looked in TT and RotK. No mention.
[4:45 PM]
I went to my Tolkien Shelf even :} No luck without digging deeper
into my scrolls of lore,... er, my other books :}
Sandalf13 — Today at 4:45 PM
His soldies knocked the statue of the Eye off the seated figure,
and replaced the head atop the statue, where it belonged. I wonder
if the trailing crown of flowers survived the replacement!
Varda — Today at 4:45 PM
Aye, thinking we'll have to hit the Histories and Letters.
Sandalf13 — Today at 4:45 PM
I wish I had access to those, but I don't.
Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:46 PM
I glanced over it pretty quickly, but I believe the description
said they did, yes Sandalf.
Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:46 PM
Caught up! Sounds like a nice party over at Varda's, even before
Christmas... we actually had some visitors here today for my mom's
birthday
Varda — Today at 4:46 PM
He had his own crown then, most likely. : ) But it's
beautiful to think Yavanna or others had something to do with it.
"Nature" has a lot of the Ainur in it for reference.
[4:47 PM]
Happy Birthday to your mother from all of us. : ) Thank you
to her for Ar-Pharazon as well!
Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:47 PM
Probably would hold up better than Ulmo giving the statue a crown
:}
Sandalf13 — Today at 4:47 PM
What a beautiful thought, Varda! Perhaps Yavanna knew (somehow) of
the goings-on in Middle Earth?
Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:47 PM
And yes, it's nice to think that while the Valar did not really
interfere politically anymore, they would help restore things
after the trouble was over, in their own subtle ways.
Varda — Today at 4:48 PM
They knew a lot. Manwe and Varda watched from Taniquetil, Ulmo
through the waters. What they knew they probably told the others.
All the Valar had Maiar, and we know Maiar went into Middle-earth
and could be of all gradations of power.
[4:48 PM]
They knew certain ones would see that crown of flowers and needed
the heartening from it.
Sandalf13 — Today at 4:49 PM
I believe that Tolkien himself said that the Valar never forsook
their vigilance over the fate of Middle Earth...Semper Vigilatus.
Varda — Today at 4:49 PM
Correct
Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:49 PM
Maybe they're still watching us now...
Varda — Today at 4:49 PM
The eagles and birds were under Manwe and saw plenty.
Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:49 PM
They took less direct action, but never completely abaonded them,
no.
Varda — Today at 4:49 PM
Eagles and birds are still here. ; )
Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:49 PM
Well we have to keep an eye on you, Phar :}
[4:49 PM]
Can't let you out of those caves :}
Sandalf13 — Today at 4:49 PM
Of course they are!
Varda — Today at 4:50 PM
But we can winch down a nice Christmas dinner. : )
Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:50 PM
Ah, thank you, hopefully it's still warm
Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:50 PM
One turkey drumstick for the lot of them :}
[4:50 PM]
And a single cranberry :} Well ok, everyone gets a cranberry :}
Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:50 PM
Cranberries for all my men!
Varda — Today at 4:50 PM
We know some subtle things occurred. The Ring was meant to be
found by Bilbo. The Fellowship arrived at the Last Homely House
and Elrond said the Council meeting was "called" but not by him.
Sandalf13 — Today at 4:51 PM
The shortest day of the year approaches...a good time for writing
and reading (and researching). As I sit here in the library at
1650, the sun has already set, and the cold, bleak landscape calls
me....
Varda — Today at 4:51 PM
The beauty to remind you of the Far North!
Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:51 PM
You're talking to us from 370 years ago?
Sandalf13 — Today at 4:52 PM
I was referring to the time...1650 = 4:50 p.m.
Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:52 PM
Makes more sense
Varda — Today at 4:52 PM
ahh, 16:50.
Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:52 PM
As interesting as it would be if his library could travel through
time.... :}
Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:52 PM
(and I figured, but couldn't resist)
Sandalf13 — Today at 4:52 PM
Of course not.
Varda — Today at 4:52 PM
Hoping your laptop will some day connect from home or car!
Arien Valar — Today at 4:53 PM
Given that t a lotr of plants and trees grow on rivers and lakes i
can imagine Yavanna knew a lot from Ulmo
Sandalf13 — Today at 4:53 PM
The library is ALWAYS a good place to be, for me, although it will
be closed this coming Friday and Saturday for Xmas...
Shelob — Today at 4:53 PM
Ar Pharazon, I thought you were better at English than that. If he
was in the year 1650, he wouldn't have been at the year 1650.
Although he might have been at the year 1650 in the library book
he could be reading.
Varda — Today at 4:53 PM
The Library, any of them, are wonderful places!
Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:54 PM
...Well played, Shelob
[4:54 PM]
I didn't catch the "at", really.
Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:54 PM
Well, he could be at the Island of the Year 1650, like in
Rudolph's Shiny New Year.
Varda — Today at 4:54 PM
All these folks that speak great English and it's not even their
first language. So admirable!
Sandalf13 — Today at 4:55 PM
Yes...and unlike the Sirion, I doubt that Sauron ever had the
power to poison the waters of the Anduin such that Ulmo could no
longer read the signals carried by the river...
Shelob — Today at 4:55 PM
Yes, but then he would not have been on the island called
The Year 1650.
Varda — Today at 4:55 PM
afk while saying bye to Elwing
Shelob — Today at 4:55 PM
Bye Elwing!
Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:55 PM
But would he have been at the island?
Sandalf13 — Today at 4:55 PM
Und ich wünsche, dass mein Deutsch so gut wie den Deutsch von
andere Leute an diese Seite sein könnte...
Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:56 PM
What if he wasn't in the library at 1650 but at
the library in 1650?
Shelob — Today at 4:56 PM
Well, he could have been in a library on a yacht, floating at sea
at the island.
@Ar-Pharazon-V
What if he wasn't in the library at 1650 but at the library
in 1650?
Shelob — Today at 4:56 PM
Then he would have said thusly.
Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:56 PM
What if I just read it wrong?
Sandalf13 — Today at 4:57 PM
KISS.
Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:57 PM
Don't they have library harbors to moor your library at when
you're travelling through time? :}
Sandalf13 — Today at 4:57 PM
Like the Tardis_
Shelob — Today at 4:57 PM
You did, because you did not read the at, but you did not
read wrongly the in which was not there.
Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:57 PM
L-space?
Shelob — Today at 4:58 PM
Also, that sentence was a veritable horror of syntax errors.
Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:58 PM
Ok, we've had plenty of fun here, and we've gone off Tolkien,
so....
Shelob — Today at 4:58 PM
mine that was. :)
Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:58 PM
Bangs Gavel

Aftermeeting:
Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:58 PM
You're better at English (not in English) than that,
Shel!
Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:58 PM
Have a Merry Christmas and feel free to stay, leave, chat, or
travel through time as you are able :}
Sandalf13 — Today at 4:58 PM
Will there be a meeting on Boxing Day?
Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:59 PM
I'll be here! Not sure what time, but I'll be here.
Shelob — Today at 4:59 PM
To use the words Ar-Pharazon the wise once used... I couldn't
resist.
Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:59 PM
Next Sunday there will be a meeting, yes.
Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:59 PM
Or at what time I'll be here.
Sandalf13 — Today at 4:59 PM
Fantastisch!
Shelob — Today at 4:59 PM
I'll be at home surely.
Sandalf13 — Today at 5:00 PM
I hope that ALL of you have a wonderful week of preparation ahead,
and then a wonderful Xmas. I always enjoy the week between Xmas
and New Year...so full of happy gatherings and visits, and lots
and lot of good eating...but don't eat TOO much, y'all!
Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:01 PM
Thanks and likewise, Sandalf :}
Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:01 PM
We like eating.
Varda — Today at 5:02 PM
Merry Christmas and all other holidays that we're enjoying. : )
Sandalf13 — Today at 5:02 PM
Eating is a good sign,, so say the EMTs.
Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:02 PM
And merry christmas to everyone!
Varda — Today at 5:02 PM
Multiple faiths in our group but we all enjoy eating!
[5:02 PM]
In moderation, right, ok. ; )
Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:02 PM
Some of us prefer to photosynthesize :}
Sandalf13 — Today at 5:02 PM
:)
Varda — Today at 5:03 PM
Fangorn and Bregalad agree!
[5:03 PM]
Bregalad showed up in LotRO not too long back. ; )
Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:03 PM
We may be atheists but we've still got a christmas stable on a
table in the living room.
[5:03 PM]
It's just nice!
Varda — Today at 5:03 PM
Enjoy!
[5:03 PM]
And yes it is : )
Sandalf13 — Today at 5:04 PM
Paddock calls, anon...fair is foul, and foul is fair, hover
through the fog and the filthy air.
Varda — Today at 5:04 PM
Well said! Shakespeare I think?
Sandalf13 — Today at 5:05 PM
Yes....indeed. The three witches, waiting for the arrival
of...wait for it...Macbeth.
Varda — Today at 5:05 PM
Thanks : )
Sandalf13 — Today at 5:05 PM
In my essay on Denethor, I compare him to Macbeth...
Varda — Today at 5:05 PM
Don't get trapped in the library!
[5:05 PM]
Can see that as a fair and interesting comparison.
[5:06 PM]
Definitely want to read that (essay).
Sandalf13 — Today at 5:06 PM
I am leaving momentarily....have to drive to York for dinner with
a friend....about 35 minutes at 80 mph down I80.
Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:06 PM
Drive safe :}
Arien Valar — Today at 5:06 PM
your German is great and i d help u brushing it up or
polishing any time Sandalf
Varda — Today at 5:06 PM
We have Discord on quite often during the week. : )
Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:06 PM
enjoy, Sandalf!
Arien Valar — Today at 5:06 PM
Safe journey :)
Sandalf13 — Today at 5:07 PM
Thanks! Vielen Dank! Ich würde mein Deutsch mit dir zu üben
lieben!
Varda — Today at 5:07 PM
Harbor is the main area for chit-chat (text). Come on in anytime.
Arien Valar — Today at 5:07 PM
well catch me on discord some time and we can sort that out
Sandalf13 — Today at 5:07 PM
Sei gesund, y'all, and Tschuss!
Varda — Today at 5:07 PM
We have meetings every Sunday. Advantage of all these different
time zones.
[5:07 PM]
Gesundheit. ; )
[5:08 PM]
We also have the voice Harbor to help with pronunciation.
Arien Valar — Today at 5:09 PM
Hehe wonderful that a language isn t just vocabulary and
grammar but syntax as well
[5:09 PM]
provides a lot of fun
[5:09 PM]
meaning context and conditions a certain term or word is useds
Varda — Today at 5:10 PM
Inflections too.
Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:10 PM
Oh yes. Rather annoying especially in my online Japanese course :)
Arien Valar — Today at 5:10 PM
so .. "Gesundheit" on its own is used after somebody sneezes
[5:10 PM]
like in english *Bless you"
Varda — Today at 5:11 PM
I was being playful. : )
Arien Valar — Today at 5:11 PM
:)
Varda — Today at 5:13 PM
About that statue,
I suspect it's one of the on purpose things JRRT did to make us
play with the puzzle, speculate.
[5:14 PM]
He likes to do that.
[5:15 PM]
He gives clues and lets us riddle it out. Part of what makes it so
re-readable.
Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:15 PM
That's fair enough if it is. Not tell us who it is so we have to
wonder. Or he just decided the "who" wasn't important. Of course
if it were me I'd at some point probably have notes of speculation
on my own story, so I wouldn't be surprised if Tolkien had some
napkin somewhere that said "some say this was a statue of X"
hehehe.
Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:16 PM
Perhaps he didn't even have a specific king in mind, just a
reminder of ye olden glory days.
[5:17 PM]
But it's still nice to have such things to speculate about
Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:17 PM
Aye :}
[5:18 PM]
In that vein, a bit of
something to mull over: Do we have any example of Elves building
statues of their kings in like fashion?
Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:20 PM
I can think of a few kings who would have liked to put up statues
of themselves, in any case.
[5:20 PM]
If there were, I'd expect to find them in Menegroth, for example.
Arien Valar — Today at 5:22 PM
or even in Gondolin i guess in the kings palacce i d expect some
or in parks
[5:22 PM]
maybe even scuolptured wells
Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:22 PM
Turgon spitting up water
Arien Valar — Today at 5:22 PM
[Note: emote laughing to tears]
[5:24 PM]
well its time for me to dream of many coloured caves and wonderful
plays of water .. speaking of water play .. Gandalf formed some
waves of the Bruinen into shapes of white horses ^^
[5:24 PM]
kind of a sculpture no?
[5:24 PM]
Namarie for now :)
Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:25 PM
Sleep well Arien :}
Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:25 PM
namarie :)
Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:25 PM
And remember, for the RP, you only get
the honey if you take the fish with it, lol :}
Arien Valar — Today at 5:25 PM
aye :)
Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:26 PM
Fainan looked like she was eying the honey for her blackberries,
hehehe.
Varda — Today at 5:26 PM
Fishhhh
[5:26 PM]
Yep : )
Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:26 PM
honey honey honey, must be funny, in a fish man's world
Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:26 PM
:}
Varda — Today at 5:26 PM
I think in the statues's case, that we were supposed to figure out
an actual king. Thus the careful explaining of where it was.
[5:27 PM]
Elendil is very probable.
[5:27 PM]
RP, right. takes a look
[5:30 PM]
I'm still the most recent, but hmm.
[5:30 PM]
and being called away for supper. Which happens to be a fish stir
fry. : )
Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:30 PM
No idea what Calion likes to eat.
Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:30 PM
mmmm :}
Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:30 PM
Wonder if he likes fish.
Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:31 PM
Well I tried to give options :}
[5:31 PM]
Hopefully something in there appeals to him, or he'd settle for at
least :}
Varda — Today at 6:12 PM
back later to catch up.

the same color.

In mathematics, the four color theorem, or the
four color map theorem, states that, given any separation of a
plane into contiguous regions, producing a figure...
[7:47 PM]
Also comes with daily generated puzzles, further proving the
theorem that you can't make a map where it doesn't work :)

for the last one! If you hadn't seen enough of the Cursed Treasure

Blizzard gaming:
[7:52 PM]
Hearthstone:
Level 41 on the reward track now, getting a few more golden cards
along the way.
Demon hunter to level 46!
[7:54 PM]
Getting more honor, now going towards Knight rank. Requirements
rising rapidly! I may need to step up my daily honor gain, but
we'll see.
[7:55 PM]
Brawl is Cloneball :) Each player gets a bunch of legendaries, 4
of each, as well as occasional cards to reduce a legendary's cost.
Luck required, but fun to play :)
[7:57 PM]
For mercenaries, no new level 30s, but I got 2 new ones crafted
from getting their coins. A hydra called Trigore the Lasher (whom
people might recall from the Wailing Caverns in WoW) and Tirion
Fordring himself!
[7:58 PM]
Also leveled him and Vanessa VanCleef quite a bit.
WoW:
[7:58 PM]
Raiding progress, who'd believe it? :)
[8:00 PM]
We got heroic Fatescribe down, getting me a heroic bear trinket in
the process. 2 bosses to go, with some practice had on Kel'thuzad,
but we're now on break for the holidays. Would be nice to get him
and Sylvanas in the new year :)
[8:01 PM]
Did more vault runs in Torghast, getting the third broker-sold
cloak appearance. No loot from final boss yet though.
[8:02 PM]
Winter Veil started! Not doing much about it except sending my
druid to fight the Greench once a day, hoping to get the Flames of
Ragnaros weapon illusion from the reward present. It's from the
max level version of the gift only, so can't use my now slightly
higher alts yet. Next year might be doable :)
[8:03 PM]
Timewalk continues! Tried the mage tower a few times on Guardian
again after some nerfs there, but it's still annoying. Also doing
5 timewalking dungeons again this week, because might as well!
Also this week is arena skirmishes, which is going well too,
getting me to honor level 86.
[8:05 PM]
Between a holiday event, 2 weekly quests and watching most of Star
Trek: Picard this week, I've not had much time for the rogue.
Completed Azsuna and started Stormheim, getting from 41 to 43.
Maybe the next week will be more productive!
[8:06 PM]
He did get another poison passive at 43, so that's good, though
poison application has not been a problem so far anyway.
[8:07 PM]
And that's my report for the week!
[8:12 PM]
Namarie :)
