Eonwë Valar10/23/2020
Yay, so good news is I got to tame Terrorpene, probably the hardest
to get of the turtles. Bad news is of course he shrunk to normal
size. heh.
[12:07 AM]
My Hunter is a simple Void Elf with a simple wish: To have a giant
turtle pet that's too big to fit into a city. Is that too much to
ask? :} Lol.
October 25, 2020
Shelob10/25/2020
I think your Void Elf might have Azeroth confused with Discworld,
Eonwë.
Ar-Pharazon-V10/25/2020

Varda10/25/2020
For those that missed how to get to the next part of the Epic
after the Wedding Celebration, as it was only in the patch notes and
not obvious in-game:
[3:16 PM]
Go to Limlok in the Wells of Langflood in front of Limlok
Lodge and meet Gloin.
[4:15 PM]
That takes you to the new area also.
Eonwë Valar10/25/2020
Varda also has LotRO news.
Varda10/25/2020
oops, pardon.
[4:16 PM]
Shelob, go ahead
Shelob10/25/2020
The level cap wasn't raised with this expansion, right?
Varda10/25/2020
No
Shelob10/25/2020
Ok, on to my news thingy.
[4:17 PM]
Last week I talked about questing in Moria and wanting to do a
photoshoot of the place.
[4:17 PM]
And I am proud to say that I have managed to do so.
[4:18 PM]
Up in the screenshots channel there are 25 screenshots taken from
placed in Moria which I deemed worthy of being captured.
[4:19 PM]
The first 11 are a part of the journey of the Fellowship through
Moria, starting with the Black Pool where the Watcher abides (or
used to) and ends with Dimrill Dale.
[4:19 PM]
# 12 is the remains of the Balrog in Zirak Zigil.
[4:19 PM]
And the remaining 13 are snapshots of other places in Moria I have
visited.
[4:20 PM]
Especially the 2nd to last one I thought breathtaking.
[4:21 PM]
It's a snapshot of the 2nd hall from Zelem Melek, which the
fellowship bypassed through the chamber of Mazarbul. You get there
by going down from the 21nd hall (the one with the massive columns)
and then bearing towards the Bridge of Khazad-Dûm.
[4:22 PM]
I like it the most because it has the same huge feeling as the 21st
hall does, except that its columns are carved like giant trees.
[4:22 PM]
Tree columns
[4:23 PM]
Here it is again.
[4:23 PM]
The lighting isn't exactly amazing, but then again, it is Moria
we're talking about.
[4:23 PM]
Also, if I can get rid of those pesky dwarves, I think I may have
found myself a new home!
[4:24 PM]
That's it for my news.
Varda10/25/2020
Thank you. That was a lot of work to give the tour! Very nice.
Shelob10/25/2020
Not at all! I loved doing it!
[4:25 PM]
And I had explored most of Moria already, so I knew almost exactly
where to go.

[4:26 PM]
I have to say I'm enjoying the new area. : )
Irmo10/25/2020
They also added 2 new chapters to the epic past the Black Book (The
Legacy of Durin and the Trials); so that one has 4 chapters now
Varda10/25/2020
Start at Limlok by speaking to Gloin.
Irmo10/25/2020
Well, the Legacy as such starts at Durin at Skarhald
Varda10/25/2020
Thank you
Irmo10/25/2020
Anyway, that is all level 130 stuff
Varda10/25/2020
We have some 130's and some who are closing in on it fast. : )
[4:32 PM]
Irmo as of today has two 130's. : )
[4:33 PM]
Fangorn has a 130
[4:33 PM]
I have a couple
[4:33 PM]
Falco is very close
Irmo10/25/2020
And Varda has 2 as well:)
Varda10/25/2020
Lenwe is nipping at his heels
[4:34 PM]
That is all of my LotRO news.
[4:34 PM]
Is there other gaming news? Eve Online? Guild Wars? StarCraft 2?
etc?
[4:36 PM]
On to
[4:36 PM]
top
Tolkien!
[4:36 PM]
In LotRO, we are meeting up with the Beornings and can play them,
bringing up some questions I've heard.
[4:37 PM]
Some people (outside kin) say Beorn was the only
one that could change into bear-form during the time of the Hobbit
book. What does our group think?
Eonwë Valar10/25/2020
I guess first we should ask what The Hobbit says about him.
Irmo10/25/2020
Doesn;t it say in The Hobbit that he was the last of his
kind?
Varda10/25/2020
Exactly, book check. : )
[4:39 PM]
One thing casting doubt on his being the only one:
[4:40 PM]
The Hobbit "Queer Lodgings", Gandalf speaking while at
Beorn's house, with just the dwarves and Bilbo:
[4:40 PM]
"I have been picking out bear tracks," he said at last.
"There must have been a regular bears' meeting outside here last
night.
Arien Valar10/25/2020
((creeps in sneakily as spark in ulmo's water))
Varda10/25/2020
(Aiya Sparkly Sunshine on the Waters)
[4:40 PM]
I soon saw that Beorn could not have made them all:
there were far too many of them, and they were of various sizes
too.
Irmo10/25/2020
Hey Arien
Varda10/25/2020
I should say there were little bears, large bears,
ordinary bears, and gigantic big bears, all dancing outside from
dark to nearly dawn.
Ar-Pharazon-V10/25/2020
Aiya all!
Varda10/25/2020
Aiya Phar : )
Ar-Pharazon-V10/25/2020
(met Fladrif in Hearthstone last night, talked, watched him play a
brawl)
Varda10/25/2020
They came from almost every direction, except from the
west over the river, from the Mountains.
In that direction only one set of footprints led--none coming,
only ones going away from here..."
[4:41 PM]
End quote
[4:41 PM]
Good to hear about Fladrif!
[4:42 PM]
And what about Grimbeorn?
Eonwë Valar10/25/2020
Was he alive during the Hobbit?
Varda10/25/2020
Now you guys get to find your quotes : )
Ar-Pharazon-V10/25/2020
I don't even remember Grimbeorn.. name sounds somewhat familiar.
[4:44 PM]
But if it's a descendant of Beorn, I guess he wasn't the last of his
kind
[4:45 PM]
I would say that if he wasn't the only one at the time, you'd expect
there to be more of them at the Battle.
[4:45 PM]
Unless they were solitary in allegiance.
Arien Valar10/25/2020
Grimbeorn lived at the time of the White Council if i rember right
Eonwë Valar10/25/2020
Grimbeorn is mentioned at the Council of Elrond.
Arien Valar10/25/2020
ah thats what i meant
[4:49 PM]
Gloin mentioned him
Varda10/25/2020
Yes, Grimbeorn is the son of Beorn
Ar-Pharazon-V10/25/2020
Why would you give your son your own name but with "Grim" in front
of it? Kinda gives the "my kid is way gloomier than me" vibe.
Eonwë Valar10/25/2020
Well let's look at older definitions of "grim" and see if it makes
more sense, hehe.
Shelob10/25/2020
Don't forget that the original language in Middle Earth is Westron,
"grim" might not have the same meaning as you might think.
Varda10/25/2020
Checked. Grim means "fierce"
Ar-Pharazon-V10/25/2020
Ah, but most names were translated, were they not?
Eonwë Valar10/25/2020
Fair enough as well.
Shelob10/25/2020
And names generally don't get translated... except from Elvish and
Dwarvish, not from one kind of Humanish to another.
Varda10/25/2020
Beorn is bear. So fierce bear, probably a compliment
Ar-Pharazon-V10/25/2020
Hobbit names were translated
Varda10/25/2020
Aye, JRRT loved lots of meaning in names
Eonwë Valar10/25/2020
Sort of "if you think I'm a dangerous foe, you should see my son."
hehe
Varda10/25/2020
There you go. : )
Shelob10/25/2020
hehe.
Ar-Pharazon-V10/25/2020
I can't find the "fierce" meaning but I'll take your word for it, in
that case it's nice
[4:53 PM]
Like adding "dire" in front of an anmial.
[4:53 PM]
*animal
Varda10/25/2020
Dire wolf, aye, had the extra size, crest on the top of the skull. :
) Pardon, digressed.
Shelob10/25/2020
Etymology search on google:
The word grim comes from the Proto-Indo-European root
‘ghrem-‘ meaning ‘angry’. Over time, the word was adapted into the
Proto-Germanic ‘grimmaz’ meaning ‘fierce, savage, painful’. Grim
was first recorded in English sometime in the late 12th century.
Varda10/25/2020
Thank you : )
Ar-Pharazon-V10/25/2020
Thanks
[4:55 PM]
So basically we've got bear and his son, dire bear
Eonwë Valar10/25/2020
But not were bear, which might've been appropriate, hehe.
Varda10/25/2020
So it's bearly right. /duck
[4:57 PM]
Yes, LotRO gamers make a lot of bear puns.
Arien Valar10/25/2020
i found the quote "Frodo learned that Grimbeorn the Old , son of
Beorn, was now the lord of many sturdy men, and to their land
between the Mountains of Mirkwood neither orc nor wolf dared to go."
Varda10/25/2020
Where is it from?
Irmo10/25/2020
Well in game , the place is crowded with Orcs and Wargs even
at Grimbeorns very doorstep
Varda10/25/2020
They are not inside the Beorninghus area though. : )
[5:00 PM]
That's his home.
Shelob10/25/2020
https://thainsbook.minastirith.cz/othermen.html#Grimbeorn
Irmo10/25/2020
Errr orcs and wargs 30 yards outside his fence to the SE
Shelob10/25/2020
Doesn't contain a lot of information, but does say it should be
found on page 241 in Fellowship.
Varda10/25/2020
Aye, that's awfully close. They don't come inside the fence, but
that is really pushing the lore hard.
Arien Valar10/25/2020
sorry the quote i from Lord of the rings , The
Fellowship , part two first chapter towards the end , Many
Meetings it is titled
Shelob10/25/2020
My linked source concurs about the name of the chapter.
[5:04 PM]
Later that year, Beorn came to the Battle of the Five Armies in the
form of a bear. He came to the aid of Thorin, who was gravely
wounded, and carried the Dwarf out of the fray. Then Beorn slew the
Orc leader Bolg and the other Orcs began to flee in terror. The
Dwarves, Elves, and Men were filled with hope and they rallied and
won the battle.
Did not remember Beorn being the 6th Army in that particular battle.
grin
Ar-Pharazon-V10/25/2020
grin I did always consider him the sixth army.
Varda10/25/2020
Hard to call a solo fighter an army but he might qualify. ; )
Ar-Pharazon-V10/25/2020
Actually no. Weren't the eagles the sixth army/
[5:06 PM]
?
Varda10/25/2020
One of our stories on our site comments on how Fili and Kili felt
about Thorin's rescue while leaving them to a dirt nap.
Shelob10/25/2020
I thought the eagles were #5
Varda10/25/2020
Ok, list the armies. : )
[5:07 PM]
The Battle of Five Armies:
Ar-Pharazon-V10/25/2020
I suppose the goblins and wargs count as one army.
Shelob10/25/2020
Elves, Dales, Dain from the Iron Mountains, Goblins.
Irmo10/25/2020
Orcs and Goblins vs Elves, Men and Dwarves = 5
Shelob10/25/2020
And well... Thorin and company don't really count as an army,
especially considering they were holed up for a lot of it.
Varda10/25/2020
Eagles should count, right?
Ar-Pharazon-V10/25/2020
I saw it more as Elves, Men, Dwarves, Goblins and Wargs. Thorin's
company, the eagles and Beorn might be honorary members.
Shelob10/25/2020
I don't think there were Orcs in the Goblin army.
[5:08 PM]
But, then again, Tolkien did not start differentiating them until
after "there and back again" if I recall correctly.
Pallando-Valar10/25/2020
Aiya
Arien Valar10/25/2020
oh yes i remember Beorn the paratrooper
Shelob10/25/2020
Aiya Pallando!
Ar-Pharazon-V10/25/2020
bear boooomb
Arien Valar10/25/2020
aiya Pallando
[5:09 PM]
aye
Ar-Pharazon-V10/25/2020
And yes, orcs were not mentioned in The Hobbit to my
knowledge.
[5:09 PM]
They were just large goblins.
Shelob10/25/2020
https://thainsbook.minastirith.cz/battles.html#Five_Armies
Orcs and Wargs counted separately.
Ar-Pharazon-V10/25/2020
Does that mean... I was right? \o/
Shelob10/25/2020
And I think Orcs and Goblins are sort of the same thing.
[5:11 PM]
Because in the Hobbit I don't think there was mention of
Orcs, and thereafter, no mention of Goblins, right?
Varda10/25/2020
Bad guys: goblins, wargs. Good guys: Elves. Humans. Dwarves.
Eagles.
Ar-Pharazon-V10/25/2020
I can't remember if goblins were mentioned in LotR. I know they were
in the movie. Something about crossing orcs and goblins, which
seemed silly to me.
Varda10/25/2020
Then there were singles like one hobbit, one wizard, one Beorning
Irmo10/25/2020
so 6 armies?
Shelob10/25/2020
Gandalf wasn't there, was he? [Note: Gandalf was there.]
Varda10/25/2020
It's five.
Shelob10/25/2020
Eagles were never counted as an army.
Eonwë Valar10/25/2020
I don't know specifically if "goblins" were mentioned, but
"goblin-men" were.
[5:12 PM]
*in LotR.
Ar-Pharazon-V10/25/2020
"Battle of Five Armies" sounds better than "Battle of Five Armies, a
Convocation of Eagles, a Hobbit, a Wizard and some Man-Bear-Thing."
[5:13 PM]
And yes, I had to look up the groupname for eagles.
Eonwë Valar10/25/2020
Also sounds better than "War for Arda, part 27" :}
Varda10/25/2020
heh
[5:15 PM]
If we leave out eagles, we can say goblins and wargs for two.
Ar-Pharazon-V10/25/2020
I think that's correct, yes.
Shelob10/25/2020
Aye.
[5:17 PM]
Too bad Smaug got himself killed though. I think he would've made
short work about the 5 armies and the assorted other units around.
Ar-Pharazon-V10/25/2020
Eagles might have given him some trouble.
Varda10/25/2020
One human with an arrow.
Eonwë Valar10/25/2020
Bah, I've got a perfectly good brand new hardback of The Hobbit
sitting around here somewhere. If only I knew where it was.
Varda10/25/2020
Your book knows what happened to the other copies, worked to death.
[5:18 PM]
It's in hiding.
Eonwë Valar10/25/2020
hehe
Shelob10/25/2020
Probably in the place you least expect it to be. Right where it
ought to have been all along. The one place you're bound to never
look at.
Ar-Pharazon-V10/25/2020
I know gryphon(rider)s in Warcraft II were equal to dragons.
[5:25 PM]
In the lore they would often take them on 3 to 1, though.
[5:25 PM]
In Warcraft 3... might be a bigger power gap
Eonwë Valar10/25/2020
Aha, found it.
Ar-Pharazon-V10/25/2020
Surely the eagles of Manwe can gang up against a dragon
Varda10/25/2020
Smaug was taken out with one bow by one human with good intel. He
didn't get to do any more armying after firing up parts of the town.
Eonwë Valar10/25/2020
Pretty sure the Eagles were fighting winged dragons in the War of
Wrath.
Ar-Pharazon-V10/25/2020
Yes, also true, led by Eaearendieieiel.
[5:27 PM]
Choose your own spelling.
Varda10/25/2020
But yours was fun. Sooo many vowels.
Ar-Pharazon-V10/25/2020
Cross out what doesn't apply
Eonwë Valar10/25/2020
Actually, "all the great birds of heaven and THorondor was their
captain,..." so more than just the Eagles were fighting the dragons.
Which is good because I don't know how well Don Henley would've held
up alone against Ancalagon rimshot.
Ar-Pharazon-V10/25/2020
semi-afk
Varda10/25/2020
heh
Ar-Pharazon-V10/25/2020
(blackadder on tv)
Varda10/25/2020
Sorry but going to have to move us to After-meeting. Bunch of people
waiting on me or not waiting in three places. : )
[5:30 PM]
It's after the hour by half an hour, not bad for us.
[5:31 PM]
the gavels keep discussing which army they are supposed to be
Arien Valar10/25/2020
all right gl multi tasking Varda
Varda10/25/2020

I think Tolkien drastically underestimated the immense power of the
hummingbird though. It would have driven Ancalagon positively
insane!
Irmo10/25/2020
hornets and sickleflies too
Shelob10/25/2020
Yes, but those are evil. Also the reason why Hummingbirds and other
insect eating birds are so important in such battles.
Ar-Pharazon-V10/25/2020
Now picturing a giant hummingbird that eats dragons.
Shelob10/25/2020
Don't need a giant one. Just a lot of small ones. Look at mosquitos.
Only need a couple of them to eat a human alive. Now think of what a
billion of them could do together.
Ar-Pharazon-V10/25/2020
That works. But is less funny.
Shelob10/25/2020
True dat.

Personal gaming report!
[7:53 PM]
Let's start with 3 flashgames. 3 old
games, but one new badge... I hadn't completed the whole game
before.
Ar-Pharazon-V10/25/2020
http://www.kongregate.com/games/avoxgames/jellygo
is the first game! A cell-based strategy, which I always enjoy; this
one has nice cartoony jelly graphics and special buildings with
power weaposn and defenses, as well as upgrading individual
buildings for more power and unlocking things!
Kongregate
JellyGo!
Defend the Jelly Kingdom against powerful
enemies. Conquer enemy buildings, create superweapons or hold
defensive forts – choose your own way to victory!
[8:14 PM]
Otherwise, the basics are the same as always: conquer cells, produce
units from them, overwhelm the enemy
Ar-Pharazon-V10/25/2020
k, enough playing that.. next game
[8:49 PM]
https://www.kongregate.com/games/AethosGames/qoosh
is the second game! A platformer in a lab, where you play a living
goo experiment that has to get through all the levels while at the
whim of a mad scientist.
Kongregate
Qoosh
We look forward to making science out of you.
Been working on this one for a while, hope you like it!
In case you can#39t tell by the game, I love
portal. This...
[8:49 PM]
Gimmick is that you can warp small distances, switching places with
other objects if present, and slowing down time to make the timing
easier at places.
[8:50 PM]
First time completing it this week, but wasn't too difficult
[8:52 PM]
https://www.kongregate.com/games/ValettusGD/the-chamber
for the third game! An action puzzle game where you have to beat
each level with a tiny robot. The rules and objective change with
each room, and you have to figure out what it is
Kongregate
The Chamber
A unique puzzle game where the rules change with
every level! Use ingenuity, memory, and skill to discover the
solutions.
Then once you finish see how fast yo...

Blizzard gaming:
[9:22 PM]
Heroes of the Storm:
2 new levels got! Up to 432. Stitches to 6 and Falstad to level,
hadn't played either in a while, so it was about time
[9:24 PM]
Hearthstone:
Finally got my 5 wins, so the monthly cardback got. I'm gonna need
to step up here, because the new expansion will come with a revamped
reward system. If I want to get some of the permanent rewards each
expansion, I can't skip days and daily quests anymore!
[9:26 PM]
Brawl was one I found annoying, though Fladrif thought it was fun.
Just goes to show! Haunted carousel, where each side starts off with
3 haunted dreadsteeds that respawn on death; place your minions, and
every turn they all rotate around the board in a merry chase,
chasing side between players.
[9:26 PM]
*changing
[9:26 PM]
I guess I like the idea, but it's a nightmare to strategize around.
[9:27 PM]
Also opened up a few more packs and got a druid legendary from the
Outland expansion, Ysiel Windsinger.
WoW:
[9:28 PM]
More raiding, more testing the tuning. Jaina still seems to work!
[9:29 PM]
Of course still no mount for me
[9:31 PM]
Weekly quest is skirmishes, good time to test out guardian in arena
post-patch. Still seems to work well without corruptions.
[9:31 PM]
Bit of a relief
[9:34 PM]
Lessee.. completed archaeology, getting the last pristine, ending at
92 digsites completed. Achievement ends at 100, so I'll probably go
back in the future, but fun was kinda out of it after completing all
the solves
[9:35 PM]
I also did the 8.2 questline that had popped back up, though no
excessive rewards from those few quests, like 10 extra ilevels on
the neck.. would be an exploit anyway, I guess.
[9:35 PM]
Also still trying out for the last witch hat for Hallow's End, no
luck so far.
[9:37 PM]
Other than that... felt a wee bit burned out. I don't want to tackle
any of the missing 8.2 projects just yet, so shortly before SL, and
no sense in going for profession stuff either. It just feels like
there's not enough time for the big stuff, and the small stuff might
as well wait until later on.
[9:37 PM]
So instead I've just been working on the wowhead catchup a bit.
[9:38 PM]
I've also started work on my dwarf shadowpriest's biography. Didn't
have much for him yet, but managed to come up and lock down some
plot points, through brainstorming with a few friends in-game.
[9:38 PM]
Just gotta write up the actual thing now.
[9:39 PM]
Oh, and the illustrated novels of Rise of the Horde and Lord of the
Clans arrived! Very nice book, got it standing up here for now as my
parents think it's good to look at too
[9:39 PM]
And that's my report for the week!
[9:40 PM]
Oh, and I can mention that for my Game of Thrones game I'm making
some progress, not too far from max level... but the reason I'm
mentioning it is because I found a semi-hidden feature which
automates the one daily activity which takes up the most waiting
time, so I can get through my playing sessions rather easier ;;)
[9:45 PM]
Which besides saving a lot of clicking and waiting, also means I
don't need to skip that when I have less time.
[9:46 PM]
Which means faster resource collection \o/
[9:46 PM]
But yes, that's it for me
Ar-Pharazon-V10/25/2020
namarie!
