Oh, good point perhaps to mention that Fladrif popped up in WoW for
a while for the free weekend, where his level 70 hunter was reduced

And if you're thinking about Taelia, I think her ship's rather on a
collision with Anduin's.
Eonwë ValarToday at 4:19 PM
That's it for the gaming news I have.
IorethToday at 4:20 PM
Really? Now I always gave that to Jania, but she might be a bit too
old for him
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:20 PM
Heh. He says Jaina as an aunt.
[4:20 PM]
*sees
IorethToday at 4:21 PM
Ah. Pedigree wise, if Taelia is who some folks say she is, that
would be better perhaps.
VardaToday at 4:22 PM
(Aur Onnad Meren)
[4:22 PM]
Thank you, Eonwe. : )
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:22 PM
Well, her father's confirmed, and is a fine enough pedigree... the
mother theory is a bit more farfetched
VardaToday at 4:22 PM
We have been quite interruptive, but do appreciate the news!

VardaToday at 4:27 PM

[4:27 PM]
Oh, and I have been bad about putting LotRO news in Discord Harbor
and not remembering this week to also put it on the News page.

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:28 PM
Still, not difficult to copy from harbor
VardaToday at 4:28 PM
Yep, just have to think of it.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:28 PM
If you want to add it to the meeting, I mean.

Curator is back until Nov 8

"The menagerie is for guests only."
IorethToday at 4:31 PM
he gets loose from there?
VardaToday at 4:33 PM
Getting killed in WoW gets old, so leaves now and then to give
barter presents and be loved.
[4:33 PM]
Ioreth found you. 12 days ago. : )
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:33 PM
Very therapeutic.
VardaToday at 4:33 PM
Right!
IorethToday at 4:33 PM
wow, thought I had been back. I'll work on that
VardaToday at 4:34 PM
That would be cool. : )
[4:34 PM]
Maybe pick a special day where you drop in on LotRO. We also have
daily mathom gifts.
[4:34 PM]
aka bribes to show up?
[4:34 PM]
Including pots of points.
IorethToday at 4:35 PM
LOTRO maintenance day is Tuesday just like WoW I think
VardaToday at 4:35 PM
Wednesday, actually. So you can swap games then!
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:35 PM
Unless you're in the EU, where it's on wednesday.
[4:35 PM]
WoW, that is.
VardaToday at 4:36 PM
Any other news we want to mention while we're thinking about this
neat stuff?
IorethToday at 4:36 PM
Cool, last week they had a 7 hour shut down or something like that.
This week is scheduled for 2 I think
VardaToday at 4:37 PM
There you go. A time to come to LotRO and be a bear. ; )
[4:37 PM]
So, are we ready for
[4:37 PM]
top
Tolkien!
[4:38 PM]
Thought I'd hand over a Tolkien Moment and let folks discuss or move
to another topic, before it gets very late.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:38 PM
Who is ever truly ready for Tolkien?
VardaToday at 4:38 PM
All of us all the time! yay!
[4:39 PM]
This is one we don't hear about hardly ever:
Sam vs the Watching Stones at the gate while taking Frodo away from
the orcs
[4:39 PM]
Return of the King, "The Tower of Cirith Ungol"
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:39 PM
I remember those. Spooky.
VardaToday at 4:40 PM
Perfect for Halloween which is just barely past.
[4:40 PM]
Quote:
[4:40 PM]
At length they came to the door upon the outer court,
and they halted.
Even from where they stood they felt the malice of the Watchers
beating on them, black silent shapes on either side of the gate
through which the glare of Mordor dimly showed.
As they threaded their way among the hideous bodies of the orcs
each step became more difficult.
Before they even reached the archway they were brought to a stand.
To move an inch further was a pain and weariness to will and limb.
Frodo had no strength for such a battle. He sank to the ground. "I
can't go on, Sam," he murmured. "I'm going to faint. I don't know
what's come over me.
"I do, Mr. Frodo. Hold up now! It's the gate. There's some devilry
there. But I got through, and I'm going to get out. It can't be
more dangerous than before. Now for it!"
Sam drew out the elven-glass of Galadriel again.
As if to do honour to his hardihood, and to grace with splendour
his faithful brown Hobbit-hand that had done such deeds, the phial
blazed forth suddenly, so that all the shadowy court was lit with
a dazzling radiance like lightning; but it remained steady and did
not pass.
"Gilbereth, A Elbereth!" Sam cried. For, why he did not
know, his thought sprang back suddenly to the Elves in the Shire,
and the song that drove away the Black Rider in the trees.
"Aiya elenion ancalima!" cried Frodo once again behind him.
The will of the Watchers was broken with a suddeness like the
snapping of a cord, and Frodo and Sam stumbled forward.
Then they ran.
Through the gate and past the great seated figures with their
glittering eyes.
There was a crack.
The keystone of the arch crashed almost on their heels, and the
wall above crumbled, and fell in ruin.
Only by a hair did they escape.
[4:43 PM]
Eonwë ValarToday at 4:44 PM
By a Hobbit hair, the toughest of hairs.
VardaToday at 4:44 PM
End quote unless y'all want a little bit more that brings the end
chapter cliff-hanger
[4:44 PM]
Right!
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:44 PM
Dazzling light and collapsing stonework, it's a good thing nobody
was nearby.
[4:45 PM]
Remind me how Sam got through the first time, unless I should go
fetch my book
VardaToday at 4:46 PM
He did say he got through there the first time and knew how to get
back. It was just a bit hairier than he may have expected.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:46 PM
Wasn't it described?
[4:46 PM]
I must be misremembering.
VardaToday at 4:46 PM
Yes, but I didn't type that one up. : )
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:46 PM
hehe
VardaToday at 4:47 PM
The next part is mostly interesting to me because it gives a bit
more of the nature of the Watchers.
[4:48 PM]
A bell clanged; and from the Watchers there went up a
high and dreadful wail.
Far up above in the darkness it was answered. Out of the black sky
there came dropping like a bolt a winged shape, rending the clouds
with a ghastly shriek.
[4:48 PM]
End quote.
[4:48 PM]
Tolkien did some good cliffies, something we may not think about. :
)
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:49 PM
"Mommy, mommy, these hobbits are being mean to us!"
VardaToday at 4:50 PM
That's the translation! Now we know.
[4:50 PM]
Anyway, that's all I had for you. Happy hobbit present. : )
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:50 PM
The watchers were actually gargoyles raised by fel beasts.
VardaToday at 4:51 PM
Well, we can get more into their actual nature, which would be fun.
[4:51 PM]
Phar, did you want to dig up that first quote where Sam had to pass
the Watchers on his way to Frodo?
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:52 PM
Sure, I'll go find the book.
VardaToday at 4:54 PM
Cool
[4:54 PM]

How accurate these things are I don't know. We could work these out
ourselves, and these may help as starting points.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:56 PM
looks at text do I have to type this all in... ...
VardaToday at 4:57 PM
I have been typing them into Notepad. Get to add the italics with
around the words where needed. : )
[4:57 PM]
Gives time to correct some of my own typos.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:57 PM
‘Come on, you miserable sluggard!’ Sam cried to
himself. `Now for it!’ He drew Sting and ran towards the open
gate. But just as he was about to pass under its great arch he
felt a shock: as if he had run into some web like Shelob’s, only
invisible. He could see no obstacle, but something too strong for
his will to overcome barred the way. He looked about, and then
within the shadow of the gate he saw the Two Watchers.
...
They were like great figures seated upon thrones. Each
had three joined bodies, and three heads facing outward, and
inward, and across the gateway. The heads had vulture-faces, and
on their great knees were laid clawlike hands. They seemed to be
carved out of huge blocks of stone, immovable, and yet they were
aware: some dreadful spirit of evil vigilance abode in them. They
knew an enemy. Visible or invisible none could pass unheeded. They
would forbid his entry, or his escape.
[4:58 PM]
Okay, that would be interesting gargoyles...
[4:58 PM]
Hardening his will Sam thrust forward once again, and
halted with a jerk, staggering as if from a blow upon his breast
and head. Then greatly daring, because he could think of nothing
else to do, answering a sudden thought that came to him, he drew
slowly out the phial of Galadriel and held it up. Its white light
quickened swiftly, and the shadows under the dark arch fled. The
monstrous Watchers sat there cold and still, revealed in all their
hideous shape. For a moment Sam caught a glitter in the black
stones of their eyes, the very malice of which made him quail; but
slowly he felt their will waver and crumble into fear.
He sprang past them; but even as he did so, thrusting the phial
back into his bosom, he was aware, as plainly as if a bar of steel
had snapped to behind him, that their vigilance was renewed. And
from those evil heads there came a high shrill cry that echoed in
the towering walls before him. Far up above, like an answering
signal, a harsh bell clanged a single stroke.
‘That’s done it!’ said Sam. `Now I’ve rung the front-door bell!
[5:00 PM]
end quote, just couldn't leave that bit out
VardaToday at 5:00 PM
That's great!
[5:01 PM]
Sam has a great way of expressing himself. : )
[5:01 PM]
some dreadful spirit of evil vigilance abode in them
[5:01 PM]
Suppose these are some lesser Maiar that followed Morgoth?
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:01 PM
Or houseless, bent to his will.
[5:02 PM]
Morgoth and Sauron did seem like the types to enslave wayward feär.
Eonwë ValarToday at 5:02 PM
Being bound to a statue for eternity probably sounded better than
being thrust into the Void with Morgoth.
VardaToday at 5:03 PM
Such Maiar may not have felt comfortable about returning to Valinor
after Morgoth's removal.
[5:04 PM]
and wanted to keep up Morgoth's work. That would mean they would
want to continue with Morgoth's right hand (or Gripping Hand, if you
like).
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:05 PM
Sauron seems more like his left hand, as in doing all the sinister
jobs in the shadows...
VardaToday at 5:08 PM
There you go!
[5:08 PM]
They had forms with jobs that got to see most of what was happening,
and have a useful function. Not bad.
[5:09 PM]
Did they get to leave for coffee breaks or other things, I wonder?
Short story time.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:09 PM
Most of what was happening... in a small radius around them.
Eonwë ValarToday at 5:09 PM
I doubt they got they got time off for anything, hehe.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:11 PM
Complaining about how everyone gets to go on the company holiday and
they have to remain there..
VardaToday at 5:11 PM
But maybe nothing else could bother them or send them where they did
not want to go, either.
[5:12 PM]
Fear of leaving what they might think is a safe spot?
[5:12 PM]
Someone finally offers them a way out and they refuse?
[5:15 PM]
The hour has come and slipped past by 15 minutes.
[5:16 PM]
Special thank you to Phar for the quote!

After-meeting!
[5:18 PM]
Free chat. : )
[5:21 PM]
Time to see about feeding this mob around Taniquetil. Vanyar have
been practicing like a lot of Norse warriors in Asgard waiting for
Ragnarok, and they get hungry.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:22 PM
Just mentioning, in Game of
Thrones I just poured about 120k diamonds (I still gain more
than I use otherwise, so that's fine) into VIP points, getting to
the next level, removing the commander trial daily cap and should
now have the trial refreshes to grind my way through the last 2
million xp I need to reach max level tonight!
[5:22 PM]
Cutting about a month off my leveling, and getting a ton more
advantages
VardaToday at 5:23 PM
Grats : )
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:23 PM
So yeah, now pushing towards level 60
Eonwë ValarToday at 5:28 PM
Btw, for those interested, as of this past Friday, it's been 21
years. [Note: Eonwe's 21st anniversary of being in the Valar Guild!]
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:28 PM
Hahhh, nevermind. There's a cap on refreshes too which I won't get
until the next VIP level which is a long time away. But using
maximum refreshes a day I should still get there in a day or two.
[5:29 PM]
Max level that is.
[5:31 PM]
I can't find anything I should know for november 6t, 1999...
Eonwë ValarToday at 5:32 PM
Fair enough :}
[5:34 PM]
It was just the day I strode valiantly into the Halls of the Valar
on bnet and challenged them on their own doorstep, lol. The day I
stood before Aulë and questioned what this "Valar Guild" was all
about and then decided to join.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:34 PM
Ooh
[5:34 PM]
Happy anniversary!
[5:34 PM]
Yeah, that wouldn't be on google!
Arien ValarToday at 5:35 PM
Happy Anniversary
Eonwë ValarToday at 5:36 PM
Thanks :}
[5:39 PM]
I like to think that story had a happy ending. :}
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:40 PM
It's still going!
Eonwë ValarToday at 5:40 PM
True :}
Arien ValarToday at 5:41 PM
Time for bed here i think slightly earlier than the other days
but why not

Personal gaming report!
[6:52 PM]
Still doing that kana game, pretty much done
with Katakana as well, just have the last 3 levels to master... but
I already linked that last week so let's find 3 other flashgames
from this week
[6:52 PM]
One new badge, two old!
[6:53 PM]
https://www.kongregate.com/games/whiteboardwar/whiteboardwar-chopraider
is the new! I'd already played it in the past, but this week was the
completion badge, and it's pretty doable on easy difficulty
Kongregate
WhiteboardWar: ChopRaider
Command the ChopRaider advanced assault
helicopter in a desperate attempt to save whiteboards from the
maniacal advance of the evil Red Marker called Crimson....
[6:55 PM]
From the maker of the beloved Creeper World series, we have a
top-view action shooter game on a very simple-styled playing world,
as you control a helicopter that needs to assault enemy bases, avoid
and/or destroy enemy defenses, and take out the war factory after
destroying the attached power plants.
[6:57 PM]
Through a campaign of 8 levels and a few arena missions, you'll have
to use your assault gun and bombs (difficult to aim unless you hover
still, leaving you vulnerable!) to fight a war against the red
color, as you rescue prisoners of war, defend your carrier base ship
against enemy aircraft (hint: take out the airports early!) evacuate
civilians and hopefully escape alive as you head back to repair on
the ship
[6:58 PM]
So yes, definitely recommended!
[7:03 PM]
https://www.kongregate.com/games/yarg__/hordes-and-lords
is the second game! A lovely tactical strategy game with upgrades,
wherein you conquer the map from level to level. Deploy and move
your squads to take out the enemy soldiers, collect xp for the
specific squads and collect gold to spend on upgrades for squads or
permanent upgrades!
Kongregate
Hordes and Lords
Realtime tactical wargame with high quality
graphics in medieval setting and unique engine that showing up to
200-300 units, with physics and effects.
[7:04 PM]
General upgrades, that is
[7:05 PM]
Of note: You can replay earlier maps to collect more gold, but xp is
limited that way, so make sure all your squads see action.

Right, after spending an hour playing through that game...
[8:05 PM]
https://www.kongregate.com/games/BerzerkStudio/the-peacekeeper
is the third! An upgrade defense shooter. Stand in a ditch, fight
off enemies in waves, complete missions to get medals to get gold,
and upgrade to your heart's content! Bombs, healing, damage, spread,
goldrate, and more!
Kongregate
The Peacekeeper
In a distant-near future where Global Peace is
attained, perceptions of reality can become muddled.
Berzerk Studio presents their rendition of a
peaceful utopi...

Blizzard gaming:
[8:11 PM]
Heroes of the Storm:
No levels, still 433. And... that's it, really?
[8:11 PM]
I suppose I still mention it so I can read back next week what my
old level was
[8:14 PM]
Hearthstone:
No new levels got, but that's okay, had fun, especially with Fladrif
around Still need 3 more victories for the cardback. Watched
Flad try to get his 5 for it, though I think he said he'd lost 14 in
a row at some point. Still, he got it, and doesn't need to bother
with ranking anymore this month
[8:14 PM]
I'm more patient, though probably not more lucky with my wins... but
spread em out enough and you don't even notice!
[8:15 PM]
Brawl was interesting! Choose class, get random deck, all cards cost
half as much mana but you can only play 2 per turn.
[8:16 PM]
After a few losses I won with a paladin, those tend to have
high-costing cards overall. Druids might be a good choice too!
[8:16 PM]
WoW:
[8:17 PM]
Raiding, still going. We had a few returning players and
class-switchers so geared em up a bit in Nyalotha. Still fighting
Jaina, still no mount for me. 3 weeks remain!
[8:18 PM]
Honestly, I'm very much on the unlucky side of the group at this
point
[8:20 PM]
Weekly is mythic dungeons, of which I did four for the quest
Good to know they're still pretty easy even without corruptions.
[8:21 PM]
The reward was pretty much the one possible upgrade I had left from
heroic raid, socketed bear gloves Very lucky, though it
matters little at this point.
[8:25 PM]
Anniversary still ongoing, logged all my alts for their personal
achievements, and that's a lot of em
[8:25 PM]
Apparently there's nothing for it in classic, though, so can skip
those.
[8:26 PM]
And after 5 years I'm almost done with recruiting followers from the
garrison inn, got my second-last one this week, as I only had a
choice of two instead of one 3 more days until it's finally
over!
[8:27 PM]
I don't think I forgot the recruitment for even a single reset

Ar-Pharazon-V11/08/2020
And finally, did the newly discovered questline for the purple
murloc pet, Glimr! Fun little quest series, though if you're not a
druid it's a good thing you get a few water breathing potions along
the way.
[8:31 PM]
It starts on an ice floe in Northrend, south of the Grizzly Hills,
where a murloc scout will spawn, if you want to get the pet yourself
Eonwë Valar11/08/2020
I'll need to make some time for that during Thanksgiving.
Ar-Pharazon-V11/08/2020
Otherwise, still doing very little, though that'll change in a few
days when the prepatch comes. I'm sure I'll be farming lots of
transmog stuff.
[8:37 PM]
And that's my report for the week!
Eonwë Valar11/08/2020
Aside from my ICC25H, ToSH, and SWP runs, which have still not
provided the final pieces I need, I'm mostly just logging in for the
daily anniversary trivia question.
Ar-Pharazon-V11/08/2020
hehe, also fun
Eonwë Valar11/08/2020
And to post the spoils of those runs to the AH, hehe.
Ar-Pharazon-V11/08/2020
also good!
Eonwë Valar11/08/2020
My main is still about 300k from 4 million gold.
[8:41 PM]
270k-ish(edited)
Ar-Pharazon-V11/08/2020
stares at poor 850k
Eonwë Valar11/08/2020
I've been amassing my fortune for 16 years, lol.
Ar-Pharazon-V11/08/2020
Fair enough
[8:44 PM]
Though I'm sure you got most of it in recent expansions
Eonwë Valar11/08/2020
If I'd spent more time playing the AH, I could probably be richer.
[8:45 PM]
I think I crossed the 1mill mark in either MoP or Cataclysm.(edited)
[8:45 PM]
A good chunk came between then and Legion.
Ar-Pharazon-V11/08/2020
seems about right
Eonwë Valar11/08/2020
If I wasn't already at 3million before BFA, I don't think I was
terribly far away.
[8:47 PM]
Can't imagine this expansion giving me 1 million gold.
Ar-Pharazon-V11/08/2020
I might have gotten 1 million gold in this expansion, with paragon
supplies and the like... I do know I bought quite a few things,
mostly druid tier 3 from the AH, and still have a decent amount
