Eonwë Valar11/23/2020
Shadowlands is live in the US in 1 hour.
[4:15 PM]
The Pre-Expansion event has ended.
Eonwë Valar11/23/2020
Heh, typical launch day for WoW.
November 24, 2020
Eonwë Valar11/24/2020
Hmm, apparently they have not taken down the Shadowlands beta
servers yet. That's interesting.
November 29, 2020
ElrondToday at 6:56 AM
Its kinda interesting if you need to compare live vs beta with
something on occasion. I got into the beta one week before lauch.
Wife and I hit 60 in about 6 hours on alliance using warmode. Only
hit maybe 2-3 packs of horde "actually" doing pvp.. most of them
just left you alone
VardaToday at 3:45 PM
Maybe pvp isn't as popular as we might think, when new quests are
available?

Sam and Frodo are just back, rested and tidied. A mass of people see
them and go into a lot of poetry ending with:
[5:02 PM]
"Praise them! The Ring-bearers, praise them with great
praise!"
And so the red blood blushing in their faces and their eyes
shining with wonder, Frodo and Sam went forward and saw that
amidst the clamourous host were set three high-seats built of
green turves.
Behind the seat upon the right floated, white on green, a great
horse running free; upon the left was a banner, silver upon blue,
a ship swan-prowed faring on the sea; but behind the highest
throne in the midst of all a great standard was spread in the
breeze, and there a white tree flowered upon a sable field beneath
a shining crown and seven glittering stars.
On the throne sat a mail-clad man, a great sword was laid across
his knees, but he wore no helm.
As they drew near he rose.
And then they knew him, changed as he was, so high and glad of
face, kingly, lord of Men, dark-haired with eyes of grey.
Frodo ran to meet him, and Sam followed close behind.
"Well, if this isn't the crown of all!" he said. "Strider, or I'm

Luthien, indeed. And, well, like Arwen, any of the half-elf progeny
who chose the mankind side instead. Like Elros.
[5:14 PM]
It's not too dissimilar.
ShelobToday at 5:14 PM
Yes, but Arwen is fully counted as Elven, even if Elrond was Half
Elven.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:15 PM
True, she should've been subject to her father's choice. But I
suppose some leniency was had here.
ShelobToday at 5:15 PM
I see a wild Eonwë appearing!
Eonwë ValarToday at 5:15 PM
Arwen chose to be counted amongst Men.
[5:15 PM]
And heya all.
ShelobToday at 5:15 PM
Aiya!
VardaToday at 5:15 PM
And he appears!
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:15 PM
Aiya
VardaToday at 5:16 PM
Aiya Eonwe. : )
Eonwë ValarToday at 5:16 PM
Had to catch up reading the meeting minutes, hehe.
ShelobToday at 5:16 PM
The Eonwë used knowledge! It's super effective!
VardaToday at 5:16 PM
Arwen, Elladan, and Elrohir were given the choice, as children of
Elrond.
[5:17 PM]
Nice to come in knowing what's going on!
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:17 PM
...There's some irony in that.
[5:17 PM]
On the one hand, Elves were supposed to have the fixed fate while
Men were closer to free will.
ShelobToday at 5:17 PM
And it was the main reason why Elrond was opposed to their union,
right?
[5:17 PM]
Aye, Phar.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:17 PM
But when it came to the half-elf children, Elros' descendants were
stuck with Elros' choice despite desiring immortality, while
Elrond's descendants got their choice.
VardaToday at 5:17 PM
Elrond would be separated from Arwen, right.
Eonwë ValarToday at 5:17 PM
Aye.
ShelobToday at 5:18 PM
And their parting from beyond the world was Eru's gift, corrupted by
Melkor to be counted as a doom of death.
VardaToday at 5:18 PM
Once you go mortal, you're stuck with it. You're not half-elf.
[5:18 PM]
Aye, Shelob.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:18 PM
But once you go elf, your children can still choose?
[5:18 PM]
Wow, we really were treated unfairly
ShelobToday at 5:18 PM
Instead of rejoicing in their fate, to be united with Eru, and to
have a part in Eru's Second Music...
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:18 PM
*unequally, anyway
VardaToday at 5:19 PM
Yes, but the choice was only due to the aid given by Earendil and
Elwing to bring the Valar and the other children together again.
Eonwë ValarToday at 5:19 PM
For mortals, having that choice would be more of a "having their
cake and eating it too" than it would be for Elves, considering
their fates, even if Elves stayed in Middle-Earth rather than
travelling to Aman.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:19 PM
So the Elves would be more responsible (and knowing) in their
choice.
ShelobToday at 5:19 PM
Well, I would say that "mortal" men got the better part of that
deal!
Eonwë ValarToday at 5:20 PM
Imagine 500-year old person, on their death bed suddenly going
"Nope, I wanna be an Elf now."
ShelobToday at 5:20 PM
I mean, forever in a flawed world, or being part of the complete and
utter restoration of it into perfection at the end of times?
[5:20 PM]
Not even the Valar would be part of that, as their coming into Eä
bound them to it.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:20 PM
Is that really different from an elf going 3000 years and saying
"Yeah, I wanna be mortal now"? Especially if mortality is supposed
to be the better chioce?
[5:21 PM]
*choice
ShelobToday at 5:21 PM
No one viewed it as the better choice though!
[5:21 PM]
You certainly did not!
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:21 PM
Yeah, but I didn't decide who got to choose
VardaToday at 5:21 PM
Ancient elves became tired of what they were going through and
wished they had the escape that humans did.
Eonwë ValarToday at 5:22 PM
An elf could choose to "die of grief" anyway, and couldn't be forced
to re-house, so if they felt that bad about life they could hang out
in Mandos until the End.
ShelobToday at 5:22 PM
Neither did the Elves by and large.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:22 PM
But would such an elf have chosen to be with Eru at that point, and
would they have been allowed?
VardaToday at 5:23 PM
The end of Arda would free the elves. Then they would all understand
each other, Melkor would be out of it, and Arda would be made
aright.
ShelobToday at 5:24 PM
No, Elves would not have chosen so, because their fates were set.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:25 PM
What choice did Elladan and Elrohir make?
Eonwë ValarToday at 5:25 PM
Tolkien does discuss the whole Fates of Elves vs Men thing in HoME.
Forget which one of the top of my head, but it's the discussion
between Finrod and Andreth.
ShelobToday at 5:25 PM
The only reason why Eru allowed Luthien and Arwen to escape that
fate, because their fates were so intertwined with Beren and Aragorn
by their love for them, that their original fate was no longer
valid.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:25 PM
I remember that one, Eonwe. The only story in which Morgoth's early
corruption of Men is described, and I really liked how it was done.
Eonwë ValarToday at 5:27 PM
The Oromesque version of it all is that for Man, they know their
fate but they have to leave to World to meet it, and their "Estel"
is that leaving the world will be worth it. Elves do not know their
fate beyond the End and so their "Estel" is that they will have a
place after the End.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:28 PM
I find "know their fate" a bit vague when you have to take the word
of someone who doesn't even really know.
Eonwë ValarToday at 5:28 PM
And in case anyone doesn't understand, by "Oromesque" I refer to our
Oromë, who has a knack for keeping it pithy, hehe.
ShelobToday at 5:29 PM
As fun as this is, and as glad as I am to be part of such a lively
debate, I definitely think I should find Irmo somewhere and shake
some lovely lovely dream out of him.
[5:29 PM]
I mean... ask him nicely.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:29 PM
Namarie spidey!
ShelobToday at 5:29 PM
Namarie!
Eonwë ValarToday at 5:29 PM
Sleep well.
VardaToday at 5:30 PM
Good night
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:30 PM
Men have never met men who came back from the afterlife, and they
got conflicting stories from Morgoth and from the Elves.
[5:30 PM]
Is it any wonder they are in doubt of their ultimate fate?
Eonwë ValarToday at 5:30 PM
Some information about Man was revealed to the Elves. As I recall,
part of that, either through the Valar directly, or through Melkor
stirring stuff up, was that Man would help in the Music after the
End.
VardaToday at 5:31 PM
(We are overtime half an hour, hard on our Europeans. Thanks for
staying so long!)
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:31 PM
When the seed of doubt is sown, there's only so much you can do to
try to convince someone...
IorethToday at 5:32 PM
Sometimes only takes one seed, whispered quietly into a listening
ear, to influence quite a lot.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:33 PM
Personally I kinda think there is no afterlife and our consciousness
just fades into oblivion, but it's hard to be an atheist when you're
with elves
[5:34 PM]
I bet it didn't really took off until well into the Fourth Age, with
no more elves or maiar to be seen.
[5:35 PM]
*take off
[5:37 PM]
...Right, did I just kill off chat and should we call it?
Eonwë ValarToday at 5:38 PM
Sorry, was in a side window, but not really much to say on that. It
is hard to reject a deity when you've met it face-to-face. Reason
Morgoth, as Tolkien put it, "could never be a sincere Atheist." He
met Eru personally. Hard to say someone you've met doesn't exist.
IorethToday at 5:39 PM
You're not that dry. I fell yesterday and have taken pain pill so I
keep nodding off.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:39 PM
Indeed. Some people think atheism is about hating God. But hate and
disbelief is ultimately exclusive.
[5:40 PM]
And meeting a god - while believing it is a god - doesn't leave much
room for one of them
VardaToday at 5:41 PM
I hope you get better fast, Ioreth.

It's fascinating what they have done with the WoW lore in the new
zone. Keep wondering who I'm going to suspect/see next and the idea
of afterlife certainly gives a lot of material
VardaToday at 5:47 PM
True
IorethToday at 5:48 PM
It's going to be so boring to level more than one character and do
it over and over again. I'm one of those "it's only fun the first
time" types with this drawn-out material.
VardaToday at 5:49 PM
Do they have alternate directions they can go to level the way LotRO
does?
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:49 PM
Well, you'll really only need to do WQs and the like for alts.
IorethToday at 5:50 PM
Not until you get to 60, then there are a lot of choices. The
leveling has a main storyline and then a nice amount of side quests
you can do or not do
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:50 PM
Yeah, but that's only for the main, and any alt you choose.
IorethToday at 5:50 PM
So I won't have to do the story line again?
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:51 PM
Not sure about the details but I think you can skip the story,
choose a covenant at 50 and just level in instances, world quests
etc
[5:52 PM]
"Threads of Fate" I think it's called.
IorethToday at 5:52 PM
Ah. Right now I'm pushing a hunter and going tourist mode with a
druid and pacing a friend who does things tourist mode - all the
quests
[5:53 PM]
It's nice to have already done things on my hunter so that when I
get there with my druid I don't get as lost
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:53 PM
Oh, I think the max level covenant campaigns might be an exception
for that.
[5:53 PM]
Though I'm not sure you actually need to do that, it's just a
bit of extra Renown.
Eonwë ValarToday at 5:54 PM
Aye, after you do it once, then you can choose to skip the story for
alts and level up through whatever the convenant campaign stuff is.
Threads of Fate is the name of it.
[5:54 PM]
I think I put the link to the blog that describes it in the Gaming
News.

Eonwë ValarToday at 5:55 PM

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:55 PM
You more a Bastion or Ardenweald person then?
IorethToday at 5:57 PM
Ardenweald for my druid even though they say Bastion in better for
boomy. I think that Ardenweald would be better for someone who
stance hops. Haven't decided what to do with hunter, but I have
three hunters to level although I understand that they made swapping
easier
[5:57 PM]
I'm taming the heck out of everything on Ardenweald
VardaToday at 5:59 PM
: )
IorethToday at 5:59 PM
There was a sad bit of the ardenweald story, but I won't spoil it
for folks
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 6:00 PM
Sadder than Ursoc's cutscene?
IorethToday at 6:00 PM
That's the one. Took me totally by surprise
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 6:01 PM
It was released as one of the "Afterlives" cinematics before
release.
[Note: link

IorethToday at 6:03 PM
I really don't like that type of video but they use it effectively.
First time I saw it was the Demon Hunters
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 6:03 PM
...I just made the mistake of watching it again. Actually have tears
in my eyes.
Eonwë ValarToday at 6:03 PM
I find the "blessing" Ardenweald gives Paladins to be rather
annoying. Not a fan of a cycling buff like that.
[6:04 PM]
Or I guess not annoying, just not eager to use it.
IorethToday at 6:04 PM
I did notice they seem to be class specific and only available on
the zone they are from.
Eonwë ValarToday at 6:04 PM
Probably more because Paladins used to have "real" blessings.
[6:05 PM]
While doing to level up stuff yes, but once you choose a covenant
you're supposed to get it full-time.
[6:05 PM]
*for the one you choose.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 6:05 PM
What Eonwe said.
[6:05 PM]
...Which is possibly the most redundant thing to say ever.
IorethToday at 6:05 PM
I get so annoyed at getting things taken away - and then teased with
a substitude that does nothing but keeps the same icon as what used
to be a real spell
[6:06 PM]
I expect them to work like they used to.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 6:10 PM
The Winter Queen really reminds me of Galadriel.

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 6:11 PM

VardaToday at 6:11 PM

You know, I really should add that to my reading list. I can't
believe that it somehow hasn't been there before.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 6:24 PM
"All would love me, and this pear."
Eonwë ValarToday at 6:25 PM
"This pear, so delicious."
[6:25 PM]
Phar might get that one?

Yep
Eonwë ValarToday at 6:25 PM

Eonwë ValarToday at 6:26 PM

[6:27 PM]
Supposed to be "Dispair, so delicious", but back in the day people
would joke that it sounded like "This pear,..."
[6:27 PM]
The recent pre-expansion stuff made me think of it. Trying to
remember what the other line was...
IorethToday at 6:28 PM
I picked up a new ebook contributed to "Tolkien" the other day,
haven't looked at it. I'll look up the name.
[6:30 PM]
The book of last tails, part 1
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 6:30 PM
...last tails
IorethToday at 6:30 PM
oops, LOST tails
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 6:30 PM
I've heard of Lost Tales, but...
IorethToday at 6:31 PM

First book in the History of Middle-Earth. Interesting read.
IorethToday at 6:32 PM
I type by sound, "The Book of Lost Tales, written between
sixty and seventy years ago, was the first substantial work of
imaginative literature by J. R. R. Tolkien, and the first emergence
in narrative of the Valar, of the Children of Ilúvatar, Elves and
Men, of the Dwarves and the Orcs, and of the lands in which their
history is set,

Heroes of the Storm:
1 new level gained, from 434 to 435. Lucky hero was D.Va who got
level 12. I enjoyed playing her again, hadn't done so in a few
weeks, and have had few opportunities since her talent revamp. I
can't focus on her pilot mode as much as I used to (though the
rarely reached level 20 talent does make it quite a bit more
useful), but her mech's rather more selfsustaining and I still quite
like the gameplay. So still fun
[7:03 PM]
Hearthstone:
still going! More won ranked, more won duels and brawls, all for the
weekly quests... feel like I've settled nicely into the Matchmaking
rating now, as my winrate is decently close to 50% in ranked.
[7:04 PM]
Level 24 in the reward track, which is a bit less than I'd hoped,
but I'm still doing all my quests, so we'll see where it ends.
[7:05 PM]
Also a new demon hunter legendary card from the Faire expansion, Zai
the Incredible, which copies cards with outcast position in your
hand. Rather niche, but if you can work it in, mroe power to you
[7:07 PM]
Brawl this week... choose 15 cards to make a deck, your deck will
consist of yours and your opponent's added together.
[7:08 PM]
Decided to go with a rogue deck with a bunch of weapon buffs - but
no weapon other than the hero ability.
[7:09 PM]
Which means opponent often can't make use of them
[7:16 PM]
WoW:
[7:17 PM]
No high end raiding, for obvious reasons... though the weekly old
raid visits with a friend finally paid off again, as I got Astral
Cloud Serpent from Elegon in Pandaria.. after more than a year of
trying, I think
[7:19 PM]
Prepatch event over, ended up with a bunch of scourgestones and
recommendations. I do believe those can still be spent, not sure
about the stones though that would be at the same npc. Might as well
keep some souvenirs.
[7:19 PM]
And of course the expansion's out in full now:!
[7:20 PM]
Went in a bit on the first day to see the intro quests, but after
ending up in the Maw I hearthed out, as I don't want to dive into it
fully yet.
Wanted to postpone it to friday first to wait for the rush of
players to be over. But after seeing the plethora of hotfixes day
after day, I thought it best to just wait until those thinned out a
bit and the game's playable without having to worry if everything
works and whether get all the dialogue and stuff.
[7:23 PM]
So... I'm still level 50, and decided on leveling some alts in the
meantime, especially my first 3 alts, since I'm sending them to the
3 covenants I'm not using with my druid (who's going Ardenweald).
[7:24 PM]
Being the paladin starting at level 20 for Kyrian, rogue starting at
level 25 for Maldraxxus and firemage starting at level 11 for
Revendreth. With the new scaling, that is.
[7:25 PM]
Started with getting the mage up, and ended up leveling her all the
way to 20! After setting her up with bags and a nice firey mog,

Her appearances are limited as none of my clothies have developed
very far, so I'll be updating her as better pieces come along. But I
was happy to see all red was already an option.
[7:26 PM]
But now that she's at level 20, time to switch to the pally a bit,
though so far I've only gotten her bags and inventory set up tonight
[7:26 PM]
I'm told retri is very slow, but that's part of the fantasy!
[7:27 PM]
I'll abandon those alts for a bit again when it's time to enter the
afterlife with my main, but I do intend to get them all the way
later in SL just for the covenant campaigns.
[7:28 PM]
And that's my report for the week
[7:29 PM]
It's a strange sensation, leveling alts.
[7:30 PM]
For many years now it's been: create alt, give some starting quests,
and retire them at a very low level.
Eonwë ValarToday at 7:31 PM
Ret seems ok to me, but my threshold might be higher than others. I
enjoyed it well enough back in Vanilla, after all.(edited)
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 7:31 PM
There's been a few exceptions - I had a group effort to raise my
tank warrior to level 91 a few expansions back, and I sent some of
them into demon invasion hunting for the unique mog and weapon
rewards in the Legion pre-patch.
[7:31 PM]
Yeah, I think they specifically meant low level, since we get less
abilities.
[7:32 PM]
holy power generators, that is
Eonwë ValarToday at 7:32 PM
My biggest problem right now is my internet issues. I'm sure I could
find something else I wasn't happy with if I got those worked out,
heh, but otherwise I'm fairly content for now.
[7:32 PM]
True.
[7:33 PM]
Can't say I've levelled a Ret from the ground up in this
environment, just 50-up, so that's possible.(edited)
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 7:33 PM
But yeah. Other than about 30 levels on my official hordy I made
back in WoD, who actually saw a few zones of action, I've not done
anything with alts since vanilla when it comes to normal questing
and zoning.
[7:33 PM]
I wanted to of course, but always the druid's side projects came
first.
[7:34 PM]
It's quite interesting to actually having some devotion to level
those 3 alts during this expansion.
[7:35 PM]
Sure, my druid needs to get set when it comes to renown, callings,
torghast, raiding... but there should be plenty of downtime if I
postpone collections, pet battles, and stuff like that. Pretty sure
SL has a lot less side activity than BfA.
[7:35 PM]
Most of the above is weekly anyway.
[7:37 PM]
Anyway, pally started this patch at level 20, so while I didn't see
the exact starting experience on any of the alts, there should still
be some fun leveling and ability-gaining to be had.
Eonwë ValarToday at 7:37 PM
I'm not feeling a rush to get stuff done in Shadowlands. I'd say my
pace for levelling has been about the same as the last few
expansions (about a week since roughly Cataclysm) but just not
feeling like I gotta see it all right now, heh.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 7:38 PM
Since I've still got most of Nazjatar and Mechagon on my list
anyway, I'm not at all rushed to do stuff like meta achievements and
collections anymore.
[7:38 PM]
All stuff that can be postponed endlessly without really losing out
of anything.

I do like the ability to level in any previous expansion 10-50. That
should help longevity imo, give some diversity in options of scenery
on the way up.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 7:40 PM
It should, but since I'm leveling all these classes for the same
time, I'm not going to use chromie expansions. I want to see
everything even if just for the quest reward mogs.
Eonwë ValarToday at 7:40 PM
That was a good move I'd say to make the content relavent again but
not required.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 7:40 PM
Though I guess it means I'll spend a lot of time green questing
Eonwë ValarToday at 7:40 PM
Doesn't it just kick you into BFA time if you don't choose one?
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 7:41 PM
I think that might just be for the first one... or for any alt that
comes from Exile's Reach at level 10.
[7:41 PM]
Since all my alts have already had their starting experience, they
can just continue along.
[7:42 PM]
I do have the option of visiting Chromie, but I'm not forced into
BfA. Though the intro quest is there.
Eonwë ValarToday at 7:42 PM
OK. I don't recall exactly how that works in that event.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 7:42 PM
my mage is doing fine, anyway, in vanilla zones
[7:44 PM]
That said, after I get all classes through it at least once I can
still send my later alts (allied races for example) to Chromie if I
like.
[7:47 PM]
Totally unrelated, in less than 2 weeks I'm going to see the new
play my actress crush is in, and today I got the text booklet
delivered which I wanted to get in case I don't understand what
anyone's saying
[7:48 PM]
The first reviews are quite positive anyway, and leafing through the
booklet makes me think it'll be a very much worth the watch,
regardless of whether she's in it
[7:48 PM]
I'll be sure to give a review on the 13th's meeting!
[7:49 PM]
And that's it for me this week, both gaming and personal!
Eonwë ValarToday at 7:52 PM
Have fun at the play in two weeks :}
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 7:53 PM
Heh, thanks. Covidrules... distance and masks, but should be fine if
I don't suffocate
VardaToday at 8:01 PM
Good luck : )
[8:02 PM]
Great that they can even have plays, with or without Covid rules.
NEW
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 8:03 PM
Yep. Few weeks ago they had a limited 2-week lockdown on theaters
but it looks good for december.
Well, namarie
VardaToday at 8:10 PM
Namarie!
