VardaToday at 4:22 PM
Thank you , Eonwe. : )
I just remembered I was supposed to collect the last week of gamers in LotRO. oops. That may have to be appended to the transcript.
In other LotRO news:

Eonwe ValarToday at 4:24 PM
That's one long day....

VardaToday at 4:25 PM
hehehe - aye
It's kind of like the month of Halloween!

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:25 PM
To be fair, if they did it accurate to the book, just the last light of durin's day is a very small window for players to join

Eonwe ValarToday at 4:26 PM
When I say that I feel like I should have a painted-on mustache, big eyebrows and twirling a cigar. (ala Groucho Marx)

VardaToday at 4:27 PM
hah!
Any other games with general news? Eve, Whispers of Time, etc?
Your chance to give your games a plug. ; )
I'll mention that I'm working on putting up "When the King Comes Back" by Shirebound, 14 chapters. It should be available later on or at least tomorrow.

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:30 PM
"Hey, the king's back!"

VardaToday at 4:30 PM
Exactly my thought! hehehe

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:30 PM
So you know the reference?

VardaToday at 4:30 PM
Seen it, yes.

Also in LotRO, Falco just brought his new Stout-axe dwarf into the Ithil server. : )
in kin, I mean. As a minstrel.

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:31 PM
Better not be singing songs about plates.

VardaToday at 4:32 PM
May-be. Although Longbeards pulled that stunt at Bag End.
On to
top

Tolkien!
Since we slipped into it a bit anyway!
People say they skip the poetry, songs in Tolkien's books. I enjoy them. So it was great fun for the movies to bring us the songs.
Then suddenly a lot of people could enjoy them! Songs should be sung for proper appreciation!

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:33 PM
Some skip the poetry, some skip the language notes, some skip the long descriptions of the environment

VardaToday at 4:33 PM
Good point.
I dig it all.
But have to admit it took a while to get into the Silmarillion, because of the number of different names for the same people so fast.

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:34 PM
I have the feeling we derailed already.

VardaToday at 4:34 PM
But being in the Valar Guild with those same people made it much easier and made it through the Sil with much more pleasure.

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:35 PM
heh, that's good

VardaToday at 4:35 PM
looks around for the rails

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:35 PM
I almost liked the Sil better than LotR.

VardaToday at 4:35 PM
So lots of people had various problems with the books, but there was something for everybody!

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:35 PM
Must be my love for chronicles.
True

VardaToday at 4:36 PM
The Sil was really meaty. After getting past the names at the start, I enjoyed it a lot.
Then if we skip something, later we can reread and enjoy the "new" stuff!
The Sil's huge, sweeping tale of creation and how everything started in Arda pulled me in.
Could call it the story of Aragorn's ancestors. : )

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:37 PM
Heh, it did all come together there.
Maybe Eldarion's ancestors.

VardaToday at 4:38 PM
All in your pov!
Aragorn's tales to Eldarion!

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:38 PM
"And this guy died, and then this guy died, and this guy died horribly. Now go to sleep."

VardaToday at 4:39 PM
Thanks a lot, Ada. Leave the light on after you go!
Ada and Dad look suspiciously like a rearrangement of letters...
I did have a topic earlier today but forgot to note it down. cough

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:40 PM
Was it related to the songs?

VardaToday at 4:40 PM
Not at all! You got stream of consciousness there.

#
Annnnd got that LotRO gaming report, like Phar said!

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:42 PM
yay!

VardaToday at 4:42 PM
Landroval:
Bregalad
Celebrian
Lenwe
Mirabella
Nar
Thranduil
Varda

Ithil:
Dis
Falco
Fangorn
Varda

Anor:
Varda
(Fangorn may have shown up on Anor too, oops) [Note: just on Ithil]
So what drew you folks into the Silmarillion the most? I liked the creation, the coming together of all the histories to bring us to what we knew.
And some stories were just so good on their own. Beren and Luthien, for example.
 #

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:44 PM
Well like I said, I like chronicles  The history of the world in a more objective, chronological form, not so much focusing on the points of view of main characters but showing events from different sides and giving information together that should be together.
Most notably when it comes to rulers, wars, migrations, changes of territory
Seeing it in great detail like in Lord of the Rings is a nice thing as well, but really I like for both to be present

VardaToday at 4:47 PM
The massive happening of events!

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:47 PM
And sure, stories like the Narn or B&L are fine too, especially since they're just the right scale for such a book, like pretty much their entire lives summarized in a chapter or two.

Eonwe ValarToday at 4:49 PM
I suppose I'd say the fuller picture of the History of Ea was a major appeal to me for the Sil as well.

VardaToday at 4:51 PM
I enjoy mythology and folklore. This had flavor from both.
It was intended to be a mythology for England, which didn't really have one in JRRT's estimation.
What gave it the feel of a full mythology to you?
.
For me, it was the creation parts, especially in the first chapters.
Then later, where they interact with the people of Arda.

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:55 PM
The Valaquenta, I think. A classical list of gods and their relationships and domains

VardaToday at 4:55 PM
That was major, aye.
If we wanted to put that into guild thoughts, Tulkas would be our fighter head. Main gamer? : )
Who might be the lore keeper?

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:57 PM
I always pictured him as a Muradin-like bruiser from Heroes of the Storm.

VardaToday at 4:57 PM
Now I have to look that up!

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:57 PM
You remember warcraft 3?
Dwarven mountain king.
Though I do know (or think) that he's not supposed to be quite as short

VardaToday at 4:58 PM
If you can get past the ads:

    Icy Veins
Muradin Build Guide “It's hammer time!”
The ultimate guide to playing Muradin in Heroes of the Storm: talent builds, playstyle, matchups, maps, etc.

ArienValarToday at 4:59 PM
I loved the Story as a whole to be honest in the Sil .. The other mythological things were just a bonus for me

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:59 PM
There he is.

ArienValarToday at 4:59 PM
Especially the Numenorian history i found fascinating

VardaToday at 4:59 PM
A Vala could be gigantic or look like many things, generally something that went along with the way of thinking. Such as Ulmo being a great wave, or Yavanna a great tree at times.
Phar appreciates you, Arien!

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:00 PM
Now I'm thinking Kultas (...no, Kul Tiras in my head) Tulkas was more of a Hulk Hogan type of wrestler guy.
And yeah, never forget Numenor

ArienValarToday at 5:01 PM

VardaToday at 5:02 PM
It's the hour, although we might keep on with this in the After-meeting. : )

the hammer stretches up tall and mighty
the hammerpad grows to meet it
KA-WHUMMP!!
the table rings like a great bell
the gavel staggers back to the shelf
top

After-meeting!
So we have a Hulk Hogan, Muradin for some Aule templates.

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:04 PM
Lorekeeper might be someone like Mandos?
They do like their prophecies.

VardaToday at 5:05 PM
Interesting thought. He could speak with all the great minds after they died if human or if they came to him as elves.
what did you mean on your treatise on page 1145?

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:05 PM
hehe
A teacher you can't get away from.

VardaToday at 5:06 PM
And like any teacher, a perpetual student.

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:06 PM
Or a critic.
Hmm.
He must've been quite busy after some battles.

VardaToday at 5:07 PM
True. Suppose he had his own version of Valkyries or at least greeters. here, your room is right this way

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:07 PM
"Mandos will have time in his schedule for you in 3 years and 27 days. Don't worry, I'm sure that's only a small part of the duration of your stay..."

VardaToday at 5:08 PM
But since time doesn't exist in the Timeless Halls, you'll never notice.
Suppose the Valar of Time find that irritating?

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:08 PM
If he ever visited.

VardaToday at 5:09 PM
Might not get to! "Timeless" Halls.

Been noticing a problem in Discord, wondered if others have it too...
Other games are showing under the person's name but not LotRO. It used to.
Discord says it can't even find it now.
Couldn't see that Falco was in LotRO when we were chatting in-game.
Maybe the new, um, Open ALs?
Or do you see it and it's just my settings somehow?

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:15 PM
I've got Lenwe playing LotRO.

VardaToday at 5:15 PM
o wow. I can see Lenwe as being in LotRO.

LenweToday at 5:15 PM
Aiya

VardaToday at 5:15 PM
So it's some setting somewhere.

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:15 PM
Aiya!

VardaToday at 5:15 PM
Aiya Lenwe!

ArienValarToday at 5:15 PM
Aiya Lenwe

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:15 PM
Perhaps. I think I've got mine disabled, nobody can find me through Discord

VardaToday at 5:16 PM
Fine if on purpose. : )
Mine's not on purpose.

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:16 PM
Speaking of, I'll go play my daily Starcraft II game.

VardaToday at 5:16 PM
Wondering how Lenwe does it.
Lenwe, are you on 32 bit instead of 64 maybe?

LenweToday at 5:16 PM
I was wondering if it worked when you said that, that's why I opened LotRO
No, it's 64 bit

VardaToday at 5:16 PM
Enjoy, Phar!
Hmm. Mine is 64 bit. So it's something else.

LenweToday at 5:17 PM
I think I recently reinstalled LotRO, but I haven't done anything on Discord to make it detectable

FalcoToday at 5:17 PM
I just re-added lotro via settings and it's showing now

VardaToday at 5:17 PM
O wow.

FalcoToday at 5:18 PM
Most likely due to those switching from 32 to 64Bit

VardaToday at 5:18 PM
And hi and thanks, Falco : )
Mine was showing, 64 bit, then it quit.
Maybe I accidentally bumped something.

FalcoToday at 5:19 PM
I think the latest update probably broke it
I show three different LOTRO in settings and Discord couldn't detect I was playing

VardaToday at 5:19 PM
It shows as having last played 15 days ago.
hmm

FalcoToday at 5:20 PM
I manually added it

VardaToday at 5:20 PM
Says Lenwe's is in Warner Bros.
ok, I'll give that a shot!

LenweToday at 5:21 PM
Warner Bros now?

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:21 PM
Yakko, Wakko and Dot?
 #

VardaToday at 5:25 PM
Here are Falco's notes on what he's seen of the Stout-axe on his beginning minstrel:
Stout-Axe Race
Classes Not Allowed Beorning, Captain, Lore-Master, & Warden
Initial Story is good, wish it was a little longer
Several players are pushing to have Captain, Lore-Master, and Warden classes added
Doesn't appear to be as good as High Elf but time will tell

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:26 PM
Dwarves not as good as Elves? Don't let them know.

VardaToday at 5:26 PM
LotRO is no longer with Warner Bros.
Longbeard dwarves know they are superior to Stout-axes anyway. : )

ArienValarToday at 5:34 PM
ah i have to try that one out
i am always keen to see new good starting stories

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:36 PM
muhah, another victory for the zerg
#

By the way, apparently DST will end in about 2 weeks here. What's the deal in the US?

VardaToday at 5:37 PM
Me too, Arien. : )
um, time change, ick.
"This year, DST began on March 10 and will end on Nov. 3, 2019. You will then move your clock forward an hour on March 8, 2020, and the cycle will begin again."

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:44 PM
Ah, a week after us then.

VardaToday at 5:44 PM
Good to know.
So we get a week of confusion.  ; )

Sauron made a beautiful supper for us. He's quite a chef!
I'll be back around later! munch munch

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:53 PM
Meat's back on the menu!

Eonwe ValarToday at 5:56 PM
Time for me to be off. Take care all, good night, sleep well, and have fun ;}

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:57 PM
Namarie!

Aftermeeting note, I just started my first soft reset in cookie clicker since the update, and bought the Fortune Cookie feature... which gives a 2% chance for the newsticker at the top of the page to show a fortune, and you have to collect all 20 or so.
There's a new message every 10 seconds or so, and at 2%... yeah, that'll take a while of just staring at the screen.
Or just dropping by and hope you get lucky. Either way I'm already annoyed by it!
Imagine staring at your screen for about 10 minutes just hoping for a 10-second message to appear in green...
And that 20 times

ArienValarToday at 6:27 PM
Bedtime for me Valarites

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 6:27 PM
Namarie!

ArienValarToday at 6:27 PM

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 6:27 PM
Good luck!

ArienValarToday at 6:27 PM
Namarie !
Thankies

VardaToday at 6:35 PM
Nighty night and good luck with the hard drive, Arien.
Does sound annoying, Phar.
And namarie, Eonwe.
may have caught up now
And meat on the menu was good. : )

VardaToday at 6:47 PM
Had to get rid of the old LotRO game in the list to make the new one stick, and it was only detected when first entering.

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 7:20 PM
Personal gaming report!
top

For flashgaming.. no new games this week, but this week was fantasy RPG themed and there's a few good ones in there, including a favorite of mine which I probably link every time it's up
https://www.kongregate.com/games/Djugan/hands-of-war is the first! An RPG, first in a series, with the main features of that series already available. A grid-based map where you travel from square to square, several classes to choose from, XP to gain, abilities to train from class-specific trainers, enemies to farm from certain squares, many factions to grind reputation with or play out against each other (you usually choose one of two opposites), and a long quest story to complete.
    Kongregate
    Hands of War
Choose your allies and slay your enemies on your quest to find the broken pieces of the Heartstone in this Classic Flash RPG

It'll keep you busy for sure, and if you like it, there's more in the series
https://www.kongregate.com/games/kupo707/adventure-story is the second game. Part of the Epic Battle Fantasy series/universe, but while those are more final fantasy-like RPGs, Adventure Story is a rather more simple platformer, with various spells, gearsets, coins and medals to collect throughout the levels. I prefer it over the rest of the series myself  Though, like the series it's part of, it also has nice art, fun characters, and enjoyable fantasy music. Worth a try!
    Kongregate
    Adventure Story
Explore the world of Adventure Story while battling swarms of enemies and massive bosses, collecting new equipment, and learning magic spells.

Oh, and you get to hug a cat at the end of every level. As if you needed more incentive!

VardaToday at 7:39 PM
hugs cat

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 7:43 PM
https://www.kongregate.com/games/BerzerkStudio/heros-arms is the third, and that favorite of mine  A Zelda-like rpg with xp to get and skills to upgrade with them (including a hard to reach level 21 for each skill, which requires a ton of xp but practically makes you invincible when combined), gear to buy or collect from dungeons, and several bosses to defeat. Make sure you've gotten all you can from world 1 before proceeding to world 2! Several health and mana boosts can be easy to miss.
    Kongregate
    Hero's Arms
    Hi all!
This is our new game, which is kind of a good-old Zelda-like adventure game.
We made it very retro-fashioned on purpose, to bring back the “magic” of t...

And if you like, hunt down all the species of monsters in the world to complete your bestiary. Several are difficult to find!

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 8:02 PM
Blizzard gamign:
(ng)
Starcraft II:
Started phase 3 of the war chest! First tier already complete, and halfway through the second. It comes with the third chapter of the comic as well, which seems to complete this story-arc, though more might be coming in the next chest, who knows?
Hearthstone:
A few more classes halfway, and a few stragglers a bit further progressed. Brawl this week is part of a 3-week story, with this first part having you choose a member of Team Evil and making your way through a dungeon, with the Headless Horseman at the 8th match. Luckily I completed the brawl on the first go without a loss, clocking in at 48 minutes... giving me the under an hour reward, but not under 40 minute reward. That would require under 5 minutes for every fight, with deckbuilding also taking up that time... and I don't think I'm up for spending a lot of time trying for that. Doesn't matter, since the reward would be craftable (or even gettable from a pack) anyway.
I chose the priest "hero" for it, who was most behind in xp at the start, but after completing the brawl, is now at least three quarters in towards the last level. Those brawls can give a lot of experience! But also take up a lot of time, so eh.

Oh, and I got 2 new legendary cards as well this week. An interesting neutral card from the Rise of Shadows set, Barista Lynchen, and a rogue hero, Anka the Buried. Good for respectively battlecry and deathrattle cards, so a nice contrast.

Heroes of the Storm:
1 new level, to 372. It was Stukov, who I ended up playing in one of the brawls, getting him to level 2. As the only healer choice in the entire team, I decided to give him a go, and it wasn't too bad. Got a nice ranged build made. For one of the other brawls I ended up playing Sonya the barbarian, who is also not one of my active roster... but for which I got an interesting build improvised, including an aoe stun Heroic ability which really helped in getting us the advantage in that game.
I'm almost done with the event quests! 41/50 takedowns for the 8th out of 8 quests. Should finish it tomorrow. For the 7th quest, requiring 5 matches with a friend, I contacted an old friend from WoW who also plays regularly, and we had quite a bit of fun playing 6 matches in a row, rather than the usual 2 a night I play  Made the quest a lot quicker than I expected it to be!
WoW:
Raiding still going! We killed heroic Azshara for the second time, after having to extend the reset. But after that we reset the raid anyway, and cleared the 7 bosses before her again for more loot. That got me a new chestpiece and trinket, very nice
For the first time in some years we're at least looking into trying Mythic difficulty, but it being fixed to a 20-man raid makes things difficult, and it's not going to happen unless we get at least 18 people available each time. So maybe it'll happen, maybe not.
Finished the battleground weekly, and got the achievement for 30000 honor gotten from battlegrounds, making rank 3 of several more essences available. Including the best feral dps essence, so now all the essences I have in use are rank 3
The weekly for this week, mythic dungeons, sent me into a few dungeons again I hadn't seen in a while, Tol Dagor and Siege of Boralus. Fun places to go, but I seldom have reason to go there. Siege has a nice cutscene at the end as well!
And that... might be it? Didn't get much new this week, and with a lot of wowhead news to catch up on and being a bit ill the past week, I didn't get do much extra either. I think I got my necklace to level 68, though, only 2 more to go for the current cap.
I will say, though, that of the news from the upcoming 8.3 patch, I'm happy with the announced allied race, mechagnomes  I had already designed a female mechagnome arcane mage when it was a possibility for them to arrive as a new allied race, so it's nice to get it confirmed. Fun racial abilities and jokes as well!
And that's my report for the week!
