Before-meeting

Eonwe ValarLast Monday at 1:20 AM
Heya All. Popping in to say hi. Aye Phar, hadn't read that blog until after I commented. Nothing in the Recaps on MMO-Champ or the official ones I'd skimmed over said anything about one. Now all I have to do is nab the pre-order the second I can, hehe.
And I wish LotRO would at least include a code for a digital copy of the soundtracks of their expansions. Certainly they're still making new music for the game.

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:06 PM
I've been googling for that Calion you mentioned, btw. Can't find anything.

VardaToday at 4:06 PM
Interesting. I need to see about finding him again and taking a screenie, if one wasn't already taken.
Hey, Falco! You'll be running into Calion too, might be able to take  a screenie if I've moved too far past in the storyline.
Falco has been on Landroval, doing his trademark zoom of leveling. : )
For the curious so you don't have to ask, I'm 66.

Aye : )
Hoped to have a 12-chapter story up for you, from Shirebound. Only 3 up so far for those who would enjoy the preview.
This AU is where Frodo did not go over the Sea, but healed. This story is intended to explain how that could be possible.

The Rings of Evendim ch. 1 "The Road Less Taken"

Elessar’s visit to his northern capital brings a joyous reunion
with the hobbits, and attracts an unexpected delegation from a
nearly-forgotten people. An AU "Quarantined" sequel, in
which Frodo did not sail West.
The setting is after Aragorn has become king.

VardaToday at 4:11 PM
I keep seeing typing going on from Arien. Is it outside Discord and mis-telling us you're about to speak?
Sixty-six? Not far wrong. Just start figuring out what to do by then.  ; )

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:12 PM
Well, if that's around the retirement age, it might be accurate; suddenly free time to live!

VardaToday at 4:12 PM
Actually, I'd have to say we get a new start to life every day. : )
Someone can afford to retire? : )
Maybe we just begin to really start to do things!

ArienValarToday at 4:14 PM
Go on I am distracting ..hehe I d link if I were at home

VardaToday at 4:14 PM
Still seeing a lot of typing from Arien.
O, go ahead and link. Didn't want to interrupt you. : )

The Lord of the Rings Online
Aria of the Valar: Getting into Minas Morgul
The Arias let you boost a character way up in levels. There are different arias.
I don't recommend them unless you're already familiar with that type of character, say, this is your fifth hunter and you don't want to have to go through it all again.
Who would have five hunters? um well, I don't, as it passed five.
I don't use the Aria, but it's legal according to the game so we don't get mad if you use one.
Like a WoW Death Knight, yes, you need to go back and do a lot.

ArienValarToday at 4:29 PM
No idea

VardaToday at 4:29 PM
Riiiiight.

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:29 PM
I do believe that from Shadowlands onward, both death knights and demon hunters will start at level 1, as part of the level squish.

VardaToday at 4:30 PM
Interesting. I suspect the others were started high so they could run with their guild groups, rather than say they weren't about to start from level 1 and try to catch up.
There's a level squish?

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:31 PM
I'd say it's more about getting used to a less bloated set of abilities and talents and being able to take them right into current content.
And yes, quite complicated. 1 to 120 will turn into 1 to 50, with 50 to 60 being in Shadowlands, and there will be a new starting experience from 1 to 10 with a choice of expansion packs to go through from 10 to 50.
Or you can do it the normal way, but you'll outlevel stuff really fast
The idea is that you get to level 10 in a normal starting zone or the new one, then talk to Chromie, and choose one of the previous expansion packs to go through completely on your way to 50.

ArienValarToday at 4:33 PM
One to 50 u can do in any expansion,  the next 10 levels will be new content
60 max

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:33 PM
Yep.
So you can say, I'll just level through Northrend (relevant to the new expanson's story!) or through all of BfA (also relevant!) and then delve into the Shadowlands.
And it's easy to switch between them as well.

FalcoToday at 4:34 PM
Aiya

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:35 PM
"Player agency" is the motto for this upcoming expansion and it really shows.

ArienValarToday at 4:35 PM
Cool   and aiya Falco

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:35 PM
Aiya Falco!

VardaToday at 4:35 PM
Aiya Falco : )
So are you 130 yet in LotRO? ; )
I only made 124 so far, but happy about that.

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:36 PM
Heh, 130.. that's what we would've been in Shadowlands, but there's no way we'll catch up to you now unless LotRO also does a level squish.

FalcoToday at 4:37 PM
lol not yet

VardaToday at 4:37 PM
Is that voluntary, Phar?
Pushing him a bit, there. ; )

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:38 PM
What, the level squish? I wish :stuck_out_tongue:

VardaToday at 4:38 PM
(Falco is an awesome leveler, though!)
That's very strange. All that progress, squished down so low?

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:38 PM
They felt it was getting a bit bloated. Too much content to work through, too many levels, and not enough benefits per individual level.
This way they can give each level something new, and each new player or character can choose which expansions to play.
It's an interesting system, but hurts my OCD a bit... I'd still like to level my alts through all of it and get all the appearances at least

ArienValarToday at 4:40 PM
It s not lost really but I guess too many were moaning about taking ages to level or felt rushed by guild to get raid ready

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:41 PM
It can be a bit daunting to play through 9 sets of zones and 130 levels just to reach the endgame of the new expansion.

ArienValarToday at 4:41 PM
Aye

VardaToday at 4:41 PM
Sad to think the only point of a game is to hit end game.

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:42 PM
There's a lot of fun in the leveling, for most people, but if you're new and basically behind on all the group content until you get to max level...

ArienValarToday at 4:44 PM
There is still enough room to play the way one enjoys a game ...never was a real end gamer and enjoy all (apart from Lookin for rage :stuck_out_tongue: )

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:45 PM
hehe
Actually, for the casual player, LFR is a really good way to see raid content, the bosses and lore involved, on your own pace.

VardaToday at 4:45 PM
Good point. You can play the way you like!

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:45 PM
The players you end up with might not be very helpful, but if you can't spare the time for a raidguild/group, it's the best alternative.

VardaToday at 4:47 PM
And on to

Tolkien!
If you have a topic you'd like to muse over, feel free to comment.

ArienValarToday at 4:47 PM
Aye true and for  us In Nostra Genia is relevant for rp so i usually torment myself through at least once

VardaToday at 4:47 PM
heh
I like to have at least one character running at the top level content.

ArienValarToday at 4:48 PM
Go on

VardaToday at 4:49 PM
The thought of "Muse" made me wonder how that applies to Tolkien.
In a way, the Valar were muses for the Maiar, who were muses for all others perhaps?

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:50 PM
Muse as in.. person of inspiratin?

VardaToday at 4:50 PM
The Valar were like major folders in organization. We'll put crafting/forging here, and nature here, and light here...

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:50 PM
*tion

ArienValarToday at 4:50 PM
In the sense of "deity"?

VardaToday at 4:50 PM
/quote
(in Greek and Roman mythology) each of nine goddesses, the daughters of Zeus and Mnemosyne, who preside over the arts and sciences.
a person or personified force who is the source of inspiration for a creative artist.
"Yeats' muse, Maud Gonne"
/endquote

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:51 PM
So the Maiar were inspired by the Valar in their works on Arda?

VardaToday at 4:51 PM
So if you were into trees, you would consider Yavanna the one that you would hang out with and help.
Maybe organized with the Vala of choice would be a way to put it.
Gandalf was unusual in working with, I think, three, instead of one.

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:53 PM
Sure, that works.

ArienValarToday at 4:53 PM
Say associated with ..such as Melian or perhaps Tom Bombadil

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:54 PM
And the 3 groups of Elves were also attached to specific Valar in that way.

VardaToday at 4:54 PM
Melian was a Maia. Since she was known to be in the forest, she may have been of Yavanna. We don't see her as a huntress, so probably not Orome.
I would put Tom as a Maia of Yavanna, since he was a nature spirit type.

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:55 PM
Manwe and Varda for the Vanyar, Aule for the Noldor and Ulmo for the... what were they called... all I can think of is Solosimpi :stuck_out_tongue:
As for Bombadil, a more common meaning of muse to him would be Goldberry

ArienValarToday at 4:56 PM
Aye that's what I meant just lazy typing on mobile

VardaToday at 4:56 PM
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muses
    Muses
In ancient Greek religion and mythology, the Muses (Ancient Greek: Μοῦσαι, Moũsai) are the inspirational goddesses of literature, science, and the arts.
They are considered the source of the knowledge embodied in the poetry, lyric songs, and myths that were related or...

Teleri?

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:57 PM
I'm sure she was a source of inspiration for him!
Yes, that's it, thanks

VardaToday at 4:57 PM
She was one meaning of muse for him, a source of inspiration for most of his actions.
Amazes me how well people can type on a cell phone. : )

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:58 PM
I know, it takes me 5 minutes just to find the right buttons. But then I don't have a smartphone.

VardaToday at 4:58 PM
Aule / Mahal for the Dwarves, for the crafting.
Nienna for compassion, one of Gandalf's.

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:59 PM
Would there be a Valar of poetry for Bombadil also?
*Vala

ArienValarToday at 4:59 PM
Gandalf for Frodo and Sam in that poem in Caras Galadon after his ...death as it was perceived

VardaToday at 5:00 PM
My snap thought was Manwe for poetry. Have to look it up.

ArienValarToday at 5:06 PM
Right its getting time for me :frowning:
namarie for now and have fun

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:08 PM
Namarie!

VardaToday at 5:09 PM
Found it
Namarie Arien
Sil, "Of the Beginning of Days"
pg 35 in my little paperback. : )
Quote:
"Manwe has no thought for his own honour, and is not jealous of his power, but rules all to peace.
The Vanyar he loved best of all the Elves, and of him they received song and poetry; for poetry is the delight of Manwe, and the song of words is his music.
/endquote
That is very much a muse of poetry. Also song.

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:11 PM
Ah, thank you  I'm sure he's a muse to Bombadil as well then.

VardaToday at 5:11 PM
: )

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:12 PM
As to the songmakers of Rivendell!

VardaToday at 5:12 PM
Songs of power and joy.
So, most probably. : )
And we've passed the hour.

Blizzard gaming:
Heroes of the Storm:
Level 378, one level gained! Got Stukov to level 3 through a brawl. I've been getting him more often in brawls lately. It's an interesting healer who casts heals that spread to nearby party members, and can then trigger them to give burst healing. There's also enemy debuffs and a silence zone, but that's more difficult to make use of in a brawl, so I usually just give him talents for his healing abilities.
Did win all 3 brawls this week though, which was nice

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 6:38 PM
Hearthstone:
All classes in their last quarter or so now. Update this week removed a bunch of possible quests that basically require weird one-themed decks, which is a shame, because I liked messing around with that; new quests have been added too, and the ones I've seen so far are to play 3 games with a choice of 3 classes. Don't need to win, but you can't concede. Though you still get the progress if the opponent concedes
They're nice quests, giving a lot of choice for what class you'd like to play.
Brawl this week is a murloc brawl: Choose a class, get a deck full of murlocs and random class spells. Some luck required! Still, some classes are better for it than others.
WoW:
More raiding, mythic was cancelled because of too few people, 17's not really good enough  Anniversary event started wednesday for us, and thursday we went into the anniversary raid, with 9 bosses from previous expansions over 3 different wings.
It's an LFR raid, but since we signed up with about 20 people, we pretty much had control over the raid, and got them down pretty quickly.
It's not the full fights, but merely segments of certain phases or health-percentages, framed by comments by Chromie. But they do show off some of the more interesting mechanics, and you do need to have some awareness of what to do. This mostly applies to Heigan, Archimonde and the Lich King. Defile ability can still wipe the raid! But if you wipe, Chromie will bring you back to life.
And if you defeat all 9 bosses, you get a new mount, Deathwing-modelled, called the Worldbreaker  So I've got that one acquired!
But there's more to the event than that! At the place where you find Chromie to sign up for the raids, in the Caverns of Time, there's an entire festival going on. Bands, vendors, minigames including a football-like game where you have to kick a Wisdomball over a net. Also a room to dance to the side of the event, and a way to view a bunch of cutscenes and cinematics from past expansions, including all the introductions.
Also, a version of Alterac Valley called Korrak's Revenge, based on the old version of the battleground, with no reinforcements and a lot of going back and forth. It can take hours, maybe days to win the game, since it only ends when either of the commanders is killed. The old summonable bosses are there as well, Ivus and Lokholar, which you can summon to send at the enemy base; they can do serious damage, but only if you can support them and keep them alive.
I don't think I'd ever seen them summoned before; I'd never done Alterac Valley until it was changed later in Vanilla. Lokholar especially was quite impressive to see.
And there's Korrak too, a troll worldboss that spawns at the center of the map early on, but I never got to see him.
Anyway, if you do enough activities in Korrak's Revenge you can get timewarped badges, from delivering quests to looting and delivering armorscraps, and if you earn 200 badges that way you'll get an achievement and 2 mounts, one for each faction
You can also buy a toy at the start of the battleground, a toy version of the insignia that you use to teleport to your base in the battleground. Like the mounts, if you acquire one, you get the other faction's version for free.
But wait, there's more!
Also for the anniversary are the old world bosses that we saw in previous anniversary events: Kazzak, Azuregos and the green dragons. I'm still missing some transmog pieces from the old gear they drop, and while I'm done with Kazzak and Azuregos (at least for the alts who are high enough) there's still some stuff to get from the green dragons. And I've made progress there already! Got out the rogue especially to get the dagger, even though he's slow to travel and doesn't survive very long, but he got it on the second day, so that's good  Also the Hammer of Bestial Fury, very nostalgic for me as it was the first truly feral-specialized weapon back in vanilla, even though thanks to loot specialization, I had to employ my protection warrior to get the appearance this time around. But after several years of trying, I finally got it
I think there's about 5 more pieces to get between my druid, warrior and demon hunter, but since it lasts until January this time, at least a few of those should still drop along the way.
And then there are achievements for logging in during the anniversary, as well as a new pet for the first character you open the gift with. Makes sense, as they're account-wide. Still, I made sure to log all my different characters over various servers to get those achievements  One more might be added if I get around to unlocking the Kul Tirans before January. We'll see, I won't be rushing it.
Between all the anniversary stuff it's been a busy week! Still, I've also been doing world quests for this week's weekly event. Still a few to go, and judging by the next 2 days' emissaries, I'm actually going to need to do some extra WQs to get all 20 done by the end of the reset. But that's fine, they're quick.
Oh, and that pet I mentioned is a little Nefarian pet, who emotes and shadowflames from time to time. Very nice!
And I think that's all for my report for the week
