I'm all for abolishing the whole "daylight savings time" since it was put in for a war we aren't in now.
FalcoYesterday at 4:10 PM
As long as I get more light during the day and don't have to drive home in the dark, I'm all for it.

Lord of the Rings Online:
Wednesday this past week the game worlds were moved to a new data center.
The change-over must not have gone as smoothly as intended, since LotRO had to be down for days. Hardware issues were one of the problems mentioned.
But the servers are now up and running with greater speed, more smoothly.

Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:24 PM
Aiya
Sorry, I  had no idea there was a time change for you.

VardaYesterday at 4:25 PM
Players have been given an experience boost for a while.

Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:25 PM
It's still half an hour early  here ;P
VardaYesterday at 4:25 PM
Surprise! : )
Thanks for popping in early!

A goodies basket is planned for later, for anyone whose LotRO character has been on in the past month.
Moria is still in the plans for March.

Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:26 PM
As for the GOG thing, I'll add that they're planning to do the same with Warcraft 1 and 2.  I do have the bnet version of 2, but the idea of being able to buy an updated 1 is kinda nice. [Diablo]

Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:29 PM
Well, I started a new browser game.
Or well, browser, i tried it on browser, it failed to load, so I got a desktop app for it.
VardaYesterday at 4:30 PM
Sounds as if we need to check it out in the flashgames section. I can put a link from here to it.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:30 PM
So if anyone's doing Game of Thrones: Winter is Coming, let me know
Not really a flashgame.

ArienVYesterday at 4:30 PM
uh i would have played a lot more Lotro last week but eh well .. Standing Stone Games had some trouble

Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:30 PM
I think.
VardaYesterday at 4:30 PM
The Stark motto!

Aye , LotRO had that shift to new data centers, plus hardware problems.

Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:31 PM
For flashgames I tend to go with certain shorter browser-only games from certain websites. GoT WiC is another thing entirely, and I don't think  it's flash
VardaYesterday at 4:31 PM
Ah ok
Do we have a link for it?
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:32 PM

VardaYesterday at 4:32 PM
Thank you.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:33 PM
And like I said, if the browser version isn't working out for you, you can download a launcher for the GTarcade platform.
Which kinda  makes it more like bnet than a browsergame
VardaYesterday at 4:34 PM
Do you know if it intends to follow the book or the TV series?
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:34 PM
Or Steam, for those of you who are familiar with that thing... like facebook, sometimes I feel like I'm the only one in my generation to not be involved with Steam
Well, graphically it makes heavy use of the tv show.
VardaYesterday at 4:35 PM
We do have a Valar Guild steam thingy, set up by Scatha long ago.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:36 PM
Storywise... while it does go through the story somewhat during the commander-based Weirwood battles, I don't think it's detailed enough to tell the difference. For now. I'm only in the season 1 section :stuck_out_tongue:

ArienVYesterday at 4:36 PM
I played some Star Wars The old Republic to see a bit more of my Jedi Knight story

Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:36 PM
Still, if it was based on the novels rather than the tv show I'd imagine it'd be called asoiaf rather got.
*rather than got.
ArienVYesterday at 4:37 PM
and i ve got that Valar thing on steam i think also the contact of Scatha but i d have to look it up
VardaYesterday at 4:37 PM
Well, the first book is "Game of Thrones". I just read it with Fangorn.
ArienVYesterday at 4:37 PM
A song of Fire and Ice is the first book in facrt [The book series is "A Song of Fire and Ice", starting with "A Game of Thrones".]
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:37 PM
While true, the show keeps that name despite also including the rest of the books.
VardaYesterday at 4:38 PM
Aye Arien
Okie dokie. Never saw the TV show.
The book was violent, but the characters and world and plot wonderfully done.
It had a "life is unfair" theme going.
It had a strong feeling of family and friends.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:39 PM
I've only seen the show. I'm aware of the books, a number of the differences, and quite a bit of lore from its wikia, but I chose not to get them because... well... while some of the "graphic" material in GoT can be looked away from, I imagine it's harder to separate from the exposition lore in the books.
VardaYesterday at 4:40 PM
One can scan quickly past graphic stuff in a book. Seems as if it would be more difficult to zoom past in a TV show. Could be wrong.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:41 PM
While you  have a point, the scenes in question in the show are rather divided between visual elements and audio elements (I'm really trying to not make this dirty), and if you just want the lore, you can merely listen.
VardaYesterday at 4:42 PM
Good point.

Ok, we are running out of time, so let's move on to
top

Tolkien!
He knew plenty of the horrible elements and chose to not shove them in our faces , for which I am thankful.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:43 PM
Indeed
VardaYesterday at 4:43 PM
He made comments about the orcish speech that everyone already knows and does not need detailed as it is monotonous and unoriginal.
Bits like that. : )
During LotRO, some of us started talking about the parts where villainous or somewhat villainous characters had a chance to start over.
This can run well into the After-meeting so I'll try not to mention every single thing in the books, as there were many.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:45 PM
Ah, the R word.
Rrrredemption.
VardaYesterday at 4:45 PM
Every villain had a chance. Aye Redemption was offereed.
: )
None were made evil to start. They fell in their own mistakes or were corrupted.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:46 PM
Let's see... Sauron, Saruman, Wormtongue, Lobelia...
VardaYesterday at 4:47 PM
Even that Ar-Pharazon guy.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:47 PM
Ah  yes, can't forget that guy.
VardaYesterday at 4:47 PM
Hard to forget for some reason. ; )
You mentioned Saruman and Wormtongue.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:49 PM
Saruman was released from his tower, accompanied by Wormtongue, and even approached on the journey home, but he would take no kindness, and headed off to refuse his redemption. Wormtongue, on the other hand, was given his redemption moment in the Shire... but ended up getting himself killed by killing Saruman.
VardaYesterday at 4:49 PM
Aye. I can give you that as Moments if you like?
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:49 PM
Sure, go for it
VardaYesterday at 4:49 PM
At least some of it. I didn't grab the one on the trip.
The Two Towers: "The Voice of Saruman".
When Gandalf, Theoden, and the Fellowship visited Saruman, Gandalf gave Saruman a chance, even after having been a prisoner in Orthanc. Saruman tries to talk Gandalf into joining him in Orthanc.
The villain always gets an offer:
Quote:
"But listen Saruman, for the last time! Will you not come down? Isengard has proved less strong than your hope and fancy made it. So may other things in which you still have trust.
Would it not be well to leave it for a while? To turn to new things, perhaps? Think well, Saruman! Will you not come down?"
A shadow passed over Saruman's face; then it went deathly white.
Before he could conceal it, they saw through the mask the anguish of a mind in doubt, loathing to stay and dreading to leave its refuge.
For a second he hesitated, and no one breathed.
Then he spoke, and his voice was shrill and cold. Pride and hate were conquering him.
"Will I come down?" he mocked. Does an unarmed man come down to speak with robbers out of doors?..."
End quote.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:52 PM
So close.
VardaYesterday at 4:52 PM
Aye! I like the "no one breathed". They knew how close it was.
What a difference it could have made.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:53 PM
For the Shire, in any case.
VardaYesterday at 4:53 PM
The Return of the King, "The Scouring of the Shire":
Frodo saved Saruman from hobbit vengeance after Saruman tried to stab Frodo but the mithril coat snapped the blade. Saruman said he would trouble them no more, but prophesied right after, not exactly a kindness to Frodo but a warning that he would not find health and long life although it was not the doing of Saruman.
The one with a real chance here was Grima:
Quote:
Wormtongue hesitated, and then followed his master.
"Wormtongue!" called Frodo. "You need not follow him. I know of no evil you have done to me. You can have rest and food here for a while, until you are stronger and can go your own ways."
Wormtongue halted and looked back at him, half prepared to stay.
Saruman turned. "No evil?" he cackled. "Oh no! Even when he sneaks out at night it is only to look at the stars.
But did I hear someone ask where poor Lotho is hiding? You know, don't you, Worm? Will you tell them?"
Wormtongue cowered down and whimpered: "No, no!"
"Then I will," said Saruman. "Worm killed your Chief, poor little fellow, your nice little Boss. Didn't you, Worm?
Stabbed him in his sleep, I believe. Buried him, I hope; though Worm has been very hungry lately. No, Worm is not really nice. You had better leave him to me."
A look of wild hatred came into Wormtongue's red eyes. "You told me to; you made me do it," he hissed.
Saruman laughed. "You do what Sharkey says, always, don't you, Worm? Well now he says: follow!"
He kicked Wormtongue in the face as he grovelled, and turned and made off.
But at that something snapped: suddenly Wormtongue rose up, drawing a hidden knife, and then with a snarl like a dog he sprang on Saruman's back, jerked his head back, cut his throat, and with a yell ran off down the lane.
Before Frodo could recover or speak a word, three hobbit-bows twanged and Wormtongue fell dead.
End quote.
.
That hatred came because Saruman took away Grima's choice, to keep power over him.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:57 PM
Yep, that's the moment I had in mind. Poor Grima.
VardaYesterday at 4:59 PM
That little addition about Grima's being hungry? That's after they had control of the Shire breadbasket a good while. Grima may have been kept from food, and that had to be all Saruman. And Grima had no way to argue that he didn't eat Lotho. How could he prove it? And we don't know if he did do a bit of orcishness and take a few bites in starvation.
No defense.
He knew he was lost.
One of the things that we see is that after all those chances Saruman had for redemption, in the final time for him, he looked for mercy.
But he had cut off all offers while he was embodied.
Like that quote?
Got it right here...
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:02 PM
Perhaps he thought himself immortal in a way; even if defeated, he would simply be allowed back into the west.
And then he was rejected.
VardaYesterday at 5:02 PM
He should have been immortal, should have been able to reclothe himself with a body. But he could not.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:03 PM
Must've come as a surprise.
VardaYesterday at 5:03 PM
He may have known it. It was what caused Morgoth to be the first Vala to know fear.
Sauron had a similar problem.
They gave up a lot for their evil, thinking they could safely keep those bodies.
Anyway, here's the quote for Saruman.
To the dismay of those that stood by, about the body of Saruman a grey mist gathered, and rising slowly to a great height like smoke from a fire, as a pale shrouded figure it loomed over the Hill.
or a moment it wavered, looking to the West; but out of the West came a cold wind, and it bent away, and with a sigh dissolved into nothing.
End quote.
We here know about who is in the West and who controlled the wind.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:05 PM
Must not have been pleased.
VardaYesterday at 5:05 PM
Aye to that!
That had to be a scary sight. Frodo knew they were dealing with a Maia, but I wonder how many others of those hobbits had  a clue until then.
Would have been something to see in the movies. : )
Arien had one she mentioned while we were in LotRO about Maedhros and Maglor, when Eonwe offered them a chance to give up the Silmarils and go back to Valinor.
The brothers must not have believed Eonwe had that kind of authority as that oath was sworn before Manwe and Varda and Eru.
But they forgot. He's their Messenger!
So they flubbed their chance.
That's the last one I was going to bring up. Feel free if anyone else would like to add.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:09 PM
I did mention Sauron earlier, and was thinking about around the same time as the one you just mentioned
VardaYesterday at 5:10 PM
Fire away!
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:10 PM
He was also approached for redemption at the end of the war of wrath... and didn't take it. But that's all that comes to mind right now, I'm sure more details might be known
VardaYesterday at 5:11 PM
His massive cloudy shape also was blown away by the wind from the West.
I suspect Manwe had had enough of those guys.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:12 PM
Yeah, but I was talking about the Silmarillion.
VardaYesterday at 5:12 PM
o ok
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:12 PM
Though maybe I've got my characters mixed up? I don't think so.
VardaYesterday at 5:12 PM
Sorry, I was still on the LotR.
Sauron had a lot of other adventures before the LotR.
And had chances then.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:12 PM
Oh yes. I'm well aware of at least one of them...
Never trust your grand vizier or equivalent.
VardaYesterday at 5:13 PM
The one that was really definite, when Eonwe again offered.
And Eonwe offered the Noldor who were leaving Valinor a second chance too.
He is even called the messenger, although some say it was Namo/Mandos there.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:14 PM
Must've been tired of being rejected after a while.
VardaYesterday at 5:14 PM
Aye
It's his job to offer. They refuse? It's on them.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:16 PM
I wonder if anyone accepted one of his offers and because of that it wasn't worth mentioning.
VardaYesterday at 5:17 PM
Osse.
There's a famous guy. He repented and returned.
We also had a Noldo who turned back from leaving Valinor and took his people with him.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:18 PM
Ah yes, the third brother.
ArienVYesterday at 5:19 PM
*i want to be Vizier instead of the Vizir" caughs .. oh thas something else ducks and hides
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:19 PM
Iznogud? I don't remember the spelling
VardaYesterday at 5:19 PM
Finarfin
Sorry the Noldo who turned back was Finarfin
ArienVYesterday at 5:20 PM
correct  Pharzi
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:20 PM
Right.
Interesting how the third brother tends to be the most "innocent" and virtuous.
VardaYesterday at 5:21 PM
Well, the number three was sacred in several religions, including the Celts.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:21 PM
Could almost make a parallel with the Windrunner sisters.
...No, nevermind, two roles reversed
VardaYesterday at 5:22 PM
Third son of Finwe, aye.
Maybe not innocent, but able to redeem himself.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:23 PM
Well, depends on how you look at it... he was definitely the least guilty of the 3, but also innocent in having seen and participated in less violence, afterwards.
VardaYesterday at 5:24 PM
Innocent implies not understanding the evil. I think he saw through it, knew what he was going to be stepping into in the future.
But aye, he was not a participant in the later atrocities.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:25 PM
Multiple meanings possible, innocent can also mean having witnessed and suffered through less of it
VardaYesterday at 5:25 PM
Okie dokie. : )
Shall we call it here?
If all minds are clear?
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:27 PM
Alright.
ArienVYesterday at 5:27 PM
okay .. he is the one who moved into Tirion wasn't he?
Ossse i mean
VardaYesterday at 5:28 PM
Finarfin did return to Tirion and became king there.
ArienVYesterday at 5:28 PM
ah yes so long ago that i read that
VardaYesterday at 5:29 PM
One reason we have these sessions, so we can have reminders. You are all great in helping with that!

More warcraft books yay!
VardaYesterday at 5:32 PM
Grats! Happy reading!

Thanks!

Personal gaming report!

Flashgaming... tough one. Thought about having an art game lined up but it doesn't appear to save, and gets boring after a while, so I'll give you 3 platformers instead

http://www.onemorelevel.com/game/lost_giraffe is the first one! Seems like a normal platformer at first sight, but you can't jump, and need to get across gaps and obstacles by launching your neck out and swinging from objects. Quite tough!
    Lost Giraffe - OneMoreLevel.com

Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 7:15 PM
http://www.onemorelevel.com/game/nympiad for the second! A more cartoonish platformer, but with a twist: Not only do you have wrap around pathing where you can walk off the side on one end and end up on the other side; but by pressing certain buttons you shift the level a bit, and suddenly those paths on the side go elsewhere
    Nympiad - OneMoreLevel.com

Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 7:31 PM
https://www.kongregate.com/games/RawEgg/aurie for the third one! A puzzle platformer, really more puzzle than platformer, but still some jumping around required  Collect the pink "key" and then get back to the door, you can twist the platforms by using shift to allow you to reach those goals  Some thinking required in the later levels!
    Kongregate
    Aurie
Atmospheric puzzle platformer. Chill out while solving these 20 puzzles!

ArienVYesterday at 7:37 PM
Namarie for now
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 7:37 PM
Namarie!

Blizzard gaming!
Diablo 3:
Necromancer to level 70, and completed season chapter 2. Using the 2-piece setbonus from the chapter reward, I took on Diablo for the last 2 necromancer achievements, requiring specific skills to be used, and completed them! With all the necromancer achievements complete, I got the Trag'oul wings as a permanent reward, which also complement this season's set, so my necro's looking quite bloody already with his wings and the first 2 setpieces
I also took out a few specific bosses on master difficulty for chapter 3, and next up will be completing each bounty act once, which I shall attempt on Torment difficulty with my new gear, and no longer restricted to certain abilities for my achievements. Should be fun!
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 8:10 PM
Heroes of the Storm:
Level 335 now, one level gained. Kerrigan, probably  Another single-lane brawl this week, been having a lot of those lately... still, got to choose a hero I liked each time, so that's always nice.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 8:24 PM
Hearthstone:
Still leveling! One class now at a third of the way, most still pretty far behind.. but at this stage, so far from leveling, that's okay. Had a rumble run quest this week, and have been doing rather well at it, got good cards along the way, and made it past fight 6 easily enough.. it's all random, and any fight can destroy you, but next time the quest comes up, I might actually finish it
Brawl is the advanced arena, more expensive and difficult, and I never bother with those. Better off to save my gold. So otherwise ,not much to tell for Hearthstone.
WoW:
Still farming normal raid and the first 2 fights on heroic. Third boss a bit tough yet, and at this point Mekkatorque is probably the hardest fight on normal for us. Even the final fight is going rather more smoothly.
I could say I'm ready for patch, but really, I haven't even gotten to the bulk of the 8.1 content yet. I'm not even done with 8.0. I know I'll get around to it some day. The brawler's guild stuff looks fun, anyway. I'll just continue as normal after the reset, with the exception of the new pets to farm in Pandaria. Looking forward to getting those
Did more expeditions, now at 49/50 for the mythic expedition wins. So there's that coming up! If I wanted to I could drop down to easier difficulty after that, but the rewards are lower and I do mythic regularly with friends now, so might as well continue that.
Finally, more world quests! Got more pet charms, enough to buy a barnacled hermit crab and a sandstinger wasp. Both look rather nice. Almost done with the pets from the Stormsong vendor now.
Weekly quest is also world quests, and while I am a bit selective with them - except Arathi world quests, which I'm still doing in full for the service medals, but they don't count for the weekly - I should still finish it this week without going out of my way, just doing emissaries. So that's pretty much my activity for this week!
Oh, and I got my fourth champion to legendary, so that's done as well
And that's my report for the week!
