Elen sila Lumenn omentielvo! A star shines upon the hour of our meeting

Membership news:
it is a pleasure to have a rare visitor and an Ent is showing roots and leaves
so yes we are here \o/

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:18 PM
Uprooted from his slumber. Hum hoom.

ArienValarToday at 4:19 PM
On that note . Eonwe and Varda are not here. Varda is with Fladrif [Fangorn] at DeepgroverT s place to receive a model , the Aragorn model that is on our site.

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:19 PM
Yay art!

ArienValarToday at 4:19 PM
Eonwe is busy with work :/

FladrifVToday at 4:20 PM
mumbles that it was only half a step away from his hill and there was no point not joining the moot

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:21 PM
And I'm back after not being here last meeting!

ArienValarToday at 4:22 PM
Very Good welcome back

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:22 PM
You ready to hear the story of Pharazon and his hdd?

FladrifVToday at 4:22 PM
taps his ssd's and waits patiently for the story

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:23 PM
Well, speaking of ssd, I guess I could start the story about, oh, 7 months ago when some parts of my pc needed to be replaced and I figured I'd get an ssd to speed up windows and WoW.
Turns out... it's very good I did that.
Fast forward to last sunday.
Couple of hours before the meeting, I'm just raiding along in Warcraft, killing some naga. When I notice a repetitive sound coming from my pc.
It's the sound it usually made when really busy or activating some drive or partition, but never at this frequency.
I try to open the partitions on my old hdd, which is also still attached. Two work fine, the third shows as empty when I open it. When I click a shortcut to a folder on that partition, it also shows as empty. Yeah, must be a display thing.
When I right click any of the partitions on the hdd, explorer shuts down a for a bit, and nothing pops up.
So I say to my raider friends, this ain't good, I'll try to reboot, see what happens.
And sure enough.. trying to reboot, the repetitive sound happens again for a bit, while a screen shows with a message to press del or f2 to enter bios menu. Neither button works.

ArienValarToday at 4:27 PM
always

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:28 PM
The sound doesn't last long, but it's still frozen. So I force another reboot, and the same thing happens. I continue to fear the worst.
I log onto my dad's pc, leave a few messages here and there, and open up my computer case. Indeed, sound's coming from my harddrive. I have no idea what the SSD looks like so I figure maybe they put it in the same shell or something? At this point I'm not quite sure which drive is really the culprit, or even how to disconnect one without losing the other.
Monday morning, I take the whole thing to the shop. They say, that's the SSD, that little card right there, so okay, I know the HDD's the problem for sure.
They take it in, check it, call me that afternoon. Sure enough, they can't access the HDD in any way, ask if I have important stuff on there, and if I do, they advise me to send it to a specialist for like... 900 euros. Minimum. I say... maybe one day, but not yet. I'll just store it for now.
But they do offer me a new HDD, bigger than the old one, 3k gb rather than 2k. Or well, they offer to replace the 2k and I suggest the bigger one. Not too expensive, really.
And on thursday the HDD comes in, and I get to pick it up, just in time for the thursday raid.
So what do I have... my C partition on the SSD, complete with documents, pictures, desktop contents, and, indeed, WoW with everything attached.
My other documents folder is gone, together with a bunch of install files, music tracks, art, the old AIM meeting transcripts, and a lot of other stuff. Also gone is the rest of the stuff on my old HHD, including almost every game, pretty much all my music, more art, episodes of series, comics, content from my older pcs, my old stories...

ArienValarToday at 4:34 PM
:frowning:

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:35 PM
But WoW's here, my browsers are still here, my desktop stuff is still here, and almost everything I lost is something I really looked at or listened to anymore. So while it's a pretty big loss.. the relevant things can easily be replaced.

ArienValarToday at 4:35 PM
months of work

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:35 PM
Years, really. 10+ years of stuff.

ArienValarToday at 4:35 PM
:/

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:35 PM
I never backed it up, it was way too much and constantly being added to.
But I take comfort in the idea that it's still up in my room, just locked away behind a pile of money.
So in the last few days I've tried to get back into WoW, while installing a bunch of old games and downloading some new stuff. And that's where I'm at now!

ArienValarToday at 4:36 PM
some adventure of the pc kind
i bet bruce  maybe could recover them
he is a data recover specialist

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:37 PM
Could be. But sending them overseas seems even more of a hassle

ArienValarToday at 4:38 PM
yeah or you invite him and he comes ofver for a couple of dayhs

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:38 PM
hehe

FladrifVToday at 4:38 PM
can always send it here, ill have a look at it if you want

ArienValarToday at 4:38 PM
you two shouldn t be too far apart or?

FladrifVToday at 4:38 PM
a quater 1000 km

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:38 PM
I can't keep track of Flad's location, ironically enough for a tree.

ArienValarToday at 4:39 PM
you know Ent strides are quite big

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:39 PM
One moment in Sweden, one moment in Germany, one moment in New Zealand.

ArienValarToday at 4:39 PM
and at the moment, Fladrif, whereabouts are you ?

FladrifVToday at 4:40 PM
Germany so its not too bad this time

ArienValarToday at 4:41 PM
whereabouts?

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:41 PM
Well, I'll consider it then
I actually downloaded and installed 400gb of stuff since thursday on my new hdd, currently defragging it :stuck_out_tongue:
And I guess that's my story!

ArienValarToday at 4:43 PM
thanks Phari
Webnews:  Varda is still working on a story with 25 chapters [by Shirebound] which she couldnt quite manage to put online and busy with an original novel of her own :open_mouth:

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:44 PM
Ooh. An actual novel?

ArienValarToday at 4:44 PM
Aye

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:45 PM
I lost all the documented pieces of my old 6-book epic fantasy story I started like 15 years ago. But the main threads are still in my head, and it wasn't much written down to begin with. Not that I have any ambition to complete it

ArienValarToday at 4:45 PM
so we can look forward to our Starlady joining the studded universe of  people that claim the greatest fame today

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:45 PM
Indeed!

ArienValarToday at 4:53 PM
do you have anything to report from Hearthstone or chess, Fladrif?

FladrifVToday at 4:53 PM
I do

well chess is a littlebit on hold, offline only at the moment.... HS I have won a few times the new battleground, they have a few bugfixes to do there. Also been exploring the new dragons expansion, my sole weakness as a tree (those things breathe fire!)
Im also very active with dirt rally 2 and found out that im too slow for quake champions
(20 years ago it was not a problem with Quake 3...)

ArienValarToday at 4:58 PM
Well i guess , even an Ent gets older ...
ducks

FladrifVToday at 4:59 PM
isnt it easier to touch the sun if you duck?

ArienValarToday at 4:59 PM
uhm some feet of gymnastics i guess .. maybe i could persuade the guys who pull the ropes of my ship to change the course a bit ?
but then .. it might change the length of dzay and year , so maybe not an option

FladrifVToday at 5:01 PM
we humble Arien dependant beings have to follow and the year is by definition defined by a rotation arround you

ArienValarToday at 5:01 PM
true , very generous, dear Ent
which brings me to the last item of order

FladrifVToday at 5:01 PM
splinters break off while bowing

ArienValarToday at 5:02 PM
but not the least of course not by the way

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:55 PM
I'm reminded of a forum game we used to play on a warcraft 3 forum.
It involved making lists of whatever, names, shows, anything, and then every post would take one point away from one name and add it to another. If a name reached 0 (starting at 10) it would be removed from the list, until only one name remained.
It would usually result in a posting war between supporters of 2 or 3 remaining names.
One day I went overboard and made a giant list of every character I could find in the Hobbit, LotR, Sil, etc.

VardaToday at 5:56 PM
o oh

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:57 PM
It never went very far as nearly everyone agreed that the game would take waaaay too long

ArienValarToday at 5:57 PM
was that a subtle hint ;)?
it is way over the time anyway the hour is long past

VardaToday at 5:58 PM
They didnt just cede you the internet?

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:58 PM
Not really, just a mention that we shouldn't try that particular game...

VardaToday at 5:58 PM
'tis thy gavel, m'lady.

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:58 PM
and that there are a great deal many more names than we've given so far
But Arien should feel free to continue with L

ArienValarToday at 5:59 PM
hehe let us call it for now , lady and gentle man  ]

VardaToday at 5:59 PM
By your leave. ; )

ArienValarToday at 5:59 PM
let us save the names for another day or night

VardaToday at 5:59 PM
or After-meeting!

ArienValarToday at 5:59 PM
or aftermeeting indeed ..
*sends a ray into the air until it reaches the gavel on the highest hook .. gavel jumps down in golden colour .. but discovers it can only move in Ent strides and losses balance with a loud clash it bangs to the ground .. Manwe has pity and blows the gavel back to its hook * ..

VardaToday at 6:07 PM
hah, does an atheist refuse presents? : )

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 6:07 PM
Take it from an atheist... they don't
In fact, religion or not, it's a nice reason to get together with family, have a nice meal, and decorate the house.
We.. even have a tiny stable with the traditional figures, just for tradition.
Blasphemy, or just playing along? Up to interpretation

VardaToday at 6:10 PM
Or just fun?

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 6:10 PM
I'll take it!

VardaToday at 6:11 PM
yay!

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 6:12 PM
Early christmas present: The Carbot Starcrafts finale will be released next saturday.

VardaToday at 6:12 PM
Yay!

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 6:13 PM
It's the end of 7 seasons over 7 years of a cute Starcraft story, which is sad, but also exciting... it'll be over 30 minutes, which is by far the longest episode. In fact, it's bigger than all of season 1!
All the earlier seasons have been re-released in complete videos of 1 per season, too, so it's a good time to get into it!
Unfortunately, saturday probably means for me that I'll have to wait until sunday. Maybe I'll watch it on the big screen sunday afternoon, using our tv's youtube function

VardaToday at 6:18 PM
Patience  : )

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 6:19 PM
Been a long wait, one more week won't hurt.

ArienValarToday at 6:31 PM

But it doesn't look like I got a new badge, so it must've been games I'd played before. I've got a nice one I replayed though.
Alright, let's go with these 3!
https://www.kongregate.com/games/Kajenx/ether-war is the first game! I might've mentioned it once or twice before, but I like replaying it when it comes up so I might as well share it again.

    Ether War
It#39s Ether Cannon 2! Fly around and blow stuff up!
An action/war game with upgrades, protect and upgrade your space station and your own spaceship, and then proceed to break down the enemy base one orb at a time

https://www.kongregate.com/games/Dragy/portal-the-flash-version is the second game, a 2d platformer based on the Portal game, where you cross levels by shooting portals onto walls etc and walking through them.

https://www.kongregate.com/games/glimajr/continuity for the last one! Another platformer. You have to link up rooms on the main map for you to travel from one to the other, and make your way through the level, collecting the keys and getting to the door. Requires some planning

Blizzard gaming:
Heroes of the Storm:
Level 380 now, with Li-Ming to 15. Fun hero, but time to let her retire for now and resume working on Nazeebo for the next Diablo assassin hero
Hearthstone:
Whole bunch of heroes got to 60! Shaman, mage, warrior, hunter, rogue and druid.
That only leaves the warlock and the priest, who are right at the edge. Should be no problem to get them in the next week!
After that.. I'm not sure. I should work on wins, but the quests to just play with the classes are nice and simple. Maybe I'll completely revamp their basic decks and let the game figure out what works
As for the brawls, the one for the previous week was one where you have 10 mana all game, where I cheesed it a little with a Malygos for spellpower and a ton of cheap damage spells on hunter.
This week it was Decorating Dalaran for the holidays, where the idea is to do as much damage as possible and open gifts on the board to get there. Got pretty far with a jade druid deck where I would constantly build bigger jade minions, and actually had to let the AI kill me at one point before the turns run out
WoW:
Let me think....
More raiding, last reset before holiday break. Not the belt I wanted, but a few new appearances.
Weeklies were pet battling, which I used to get halfway through the flying family brawl achievement, and timewalks, on which I'm still working, because this reset I'm a bit short on time
Got a new item from the green dragons, plate bracers for the warrior. He's now done with all his appearances from the event, just a staff and 2 leather items to go.
Also sent him and my lowlevel hunter to Alterac for the Alterac Valley vendor standing at the entrance outside the battleground, selling gear only available during the event, with a few appearances unique to them. With those two characters, some timewarped badges and a few marks of honor, I managed to grab all the unique appearances. Getting there with the hunter was quite an adventure though, and she died a few times to undead guards
And finally, got that Kings' Rest achievement I was after, with a new mummy pet as a reward! Very cute.
Oh, and I decided to stop checking Zandalar WQs every day, since it's now been 3 months since the last new one. Seems like a good time.
And that's it! Didn't have much time this week, and if there's more I did last week, I didn't document and didn't remember
And that's my report for the last 2 weeks.

Namarie!

Oh, there's more! I also got Tyrande the priest hero for free in Hearthstone as she was recently re-released that way, and I finally got the last appearance I was missing from the Legion worldbosses. So I can stop looking out for those as well
Now, namarie!

Oi, I keep missing stuff in my notes. Also got a new mount from expeditions, an armored bat, in WoW
Looks very neat.
