That's it for me.
VardaYesterday at 4:22 PM
I plan to pop in there, try to make Fainan if possible, and the Valar channel.
If you guys want, I'll set up a kin branch there, but I'll be mainly on Landroval. So not sure if you want that?
Mainly going to make it available. : )
Eonwe ValarYesterday at 4:24 PM
To me it sounds like it has the potential of providing "seasons" where people will get to start fresh every so often, but that's all speculation on my part.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:24 PM
So did they decide on this before or after WoW announced classic servers?
Or, like Eonwe says, maybe the Diablo 3 mechanic.
VardaYesterday at 4:24 PM
I can start fresh on Landroval by making a new character, heh.
Eonwe ValarYesterday at 4:25 PM
Aye Phar, like Seasons in D3. I wouldn't be surprised, but then they'd have to offer some sort of incentive to keep restarting, so I don't know.
As it sounds from reading the FAQ though, it's supposed to be LotRO's twist on "classic servers".
VardaYesterday at 4:27 PM
This is not a continuing restart, but like a fresh server with all the current classes at the beginning
Eonwe ValarYesterday at 4:27 PM
Aye.
VardaYesterday at 4:27 PM
Not exactly "classic", right.
Eonwe ValarYesterday at 4:27 PM
In D3, you start with a fresh character separate from all your "nonseason" characters.
And since they're opening the entire story up over time, it's not exactly the same, so seems to me it at least has the potential of a "seasonal" thing if they plan to do this long term. If this is just a one-and-done kind of thing, then I'm not sure why they would do it.
VardaYesterday at 4:30 PM
They said they would be adding the expansions to it, kind of like when we started out. It will be continuing.
Eonwe ValarYesterday at 4:30 PM
Aye.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:30 PM
So it's a bit of a mix. Not the static state of a WoW classic server, but a sort of reboot, perhaps periodic like seasons.
VardaYesterday at 4:31 PM
Sort of reboot is a good description, keeping all the new stuff as if the game had started with it. Cleaner coding?
I wonder if they will try to make it 64 bit. crosses fingers
Eonwe ValarYesterday at 4:32 PM
That is, again, my speculation for the future. The FAQ does not say it is seasonal. I don't want my speculation to get mixed with what they're actually saying :}
Not really. The coding shouldn't be any different than the regular version. I imagine they already had many of the tools they needed to shut down/open up parts of the game over time.
It's just on a server-level instead of an account level.
VardaYesterday at 4:35 PM

Tolkien!
Luthien-V offered us a topic:
What was the origin of Gollum?
Have at it!
What was Gollum's name before his Gollum nickname?
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:48 PM
Smeagol!
Who I always used to pronounce as sme-agol until I saw the movies.
VardaYesterday at 4:51 PM
What do we know about his people?
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:52 PM
Hobbitses, or akin to their ancestors. Stoors, as I recall.
Based on the timeline, stayed behind after the great migration across the misty mountains.
VardaYesterday at 4:53 PM
Aye. Early Stoors. They fled from the east like the others and settled by the water.
The same river where Isildur died.
What kind of position did his family have in the group?
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:54 PM
His grandmother was the matriarch, I recall.
VardaYesterday at 4:55 PM
Aye to that
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:55 PM
That said, knowing hobbits, she might well have been the grandmother of half the settlement.
VardaYesterday at 4:55 PM
After Smeagol got the One Ring, how did he use it among his people?
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:56 PM
Pranks, I think? Petty thefts? Eavesdropping?
VardaYesterday at 4:56 PM
True.
Eavesdropping for extortion. Stealing unseen.
He was not a nice guy even early on.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:57 PM
Well, considering how he got the thing...
It got a good headstart in corrupting him.
VardaYesterday at 4:57 PM
Not la gentlehobbit and nice guy like Frodo.
True. How did he get the One Ring? And anyone can answer this stuff that wants to jump in, or ask your own questions.
It's the hour. Probably started Tolkien too late.
Going to let our European folks take off as needed.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:00 PM
For us Europeans, we're only getting started

VardaYesterday at 5:04 PM
Great that he can join in at that time!
IorethYesterday at 5:04 PM
I think that's right... it's confusing because of the date line
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:05 PM
Didn't we have someone in India a while back, showing up in the meetings in the early hours before school/work?
Might be in the AIM days.

VardaYesterday at 5:10 PM
Both work : )

ArienVYesterday at 5:11 PM
so then why did the landscape ranger arrest the ghost :)?
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:12 PM
Hmmm....
IorethYesterday at 5:13 PM
I'm stuck on "landscape ranger"...
ArienVYesterday at 5:14 PM
you d call them park ranger maybe
in the states
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:14 PM
Yogi Bear, that sort of thing?

ArienVYesterday at 5:16 PM

VardaYesterday at 5:17 PM
Might re-type that?
ArienVYesterday at 5:17 PM
Why coudn't the ghost go to the dance?
VardaYesterday at 5:17 PM
Thanks
Wasn't bootiful enough?
ArienVYesterday at 5:18 PM

He had no .. body to go with!
VardaYesterday at 5:19 PM
Much better
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:19 PM
Oi. And I've even heard that one before!
Couldn't remember it

Well, with the whole timezone thing, I'll try and see if Hearthstone quests come at 11 now instead of midnight...
VardaYesterday at 5:22 PM
Good idea to check, aye.
IorethYesterday at 5:23 PM
Next Sunday, right?
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:26 PM
Nay, no quest yet.
Guess that got shifted too.

IorethYesterday at 5:28 PM
Lol, an English friend of mine just had a great Tolkien question - if Gollum would have survived and the ring was destroyed, would he have reverted back?
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:28 PM
Hmm, Frodo seemed to hope so.
And there were still moments when he was on the brink.
VardaYesterday at 5:29 PM
I think he was too far gone, would have been in terrible shape.
One can hope. Maybe with help from Gandalf and the other hobbits.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:29 PM
Would've been one heck of a cold turkey.
VardaYesterday at 5:29 PM
Remember how bad a shape Frodo was in.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:29 PM
Also, his age might catch up with him pretty quickly.
VardaYesterday at 5:30 PM
He kept having to clutch the gem he was given, and had pain on certain days especially.
Bilbo still hoped to get the Ring back too.
Gollum had it so very long.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:30 PM
Even after it was gone, true.
But given time, perhaps he could've made somewhat of a recovery.
VardaYesterday at 5:30 PM
Aye
Would he have had a chance to go to Valinor like the other Ringbearers?
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:31 PM
Well, he didn't really do a great job as Ringbearer. Used it for evil, and did evil for it.
So I doubt they would have accepted him.

GorlimYesterday at 5:32 PM
Woof

3 flashgames to start with!
http://www.onemorelevel.com/game/vex_4 is the first! Difficult platformer, make your way past obstacles, and try to decrease your time spent to unlock hard modes of each level
    Vex 4 - OneMoreLevel.com

http://www.freewebarcade.com/game/the-trash-bin-that-could/ is the second one! 3d-game, you play a just barely sentient trashcan trying to make your way to explore the world, while recharging your energy where possible and avoiding security cameras.
You move the camera with the mouse and move around with the keyboard.

http://www.freewebarcade.com/game/tiny-clusters/ is the last game, a puzzle platformer where you have to drag corners of the level around to be able to grab the star and make it to the exit.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 7:23 PM
Not too bad, but the timed bonus levels are quite difficult.

Blizzard gaming!
Diablo 3:
Quite a week. Spent a lot of time following the goblin farming guide on Icy Veins https://www.icy-veins.com/d3/goblin-farming-guide to search for the Menagerist Goblin, a goblin guaranteed to drop a pet from a specific list, but only a pet that you don't have yet. So get enough and you're guaranteed to get all the pets.
    Icy Veins
    Goblin Farming Guide
Learn the best goblin farming routes, builds and principles.
I started off on Torment 4 with my full sweep attack set, doing a ton of damage, killing all the goblins I could find, as well as rares and elites for chances of legendaries and reagents. I had some sets and legendaries in mind to speed up the farming process, mostly based around the Steed Charge set.
Over time, with upgrading rares and throwing bloodshards at the gambler, those bloodshards mostly coming from blood shard goblins which were quite common of all the goblin types, I got the set I wanted that reduces steed charge cooldown when you kill anything, as well as two or three legendaries designed to compliment the farming, including a weapon to extract the power from to double steed charge, and shoulderpads to be able to teleport without being interrupted.
Then put a thorns gem in my weapon, got the rune to deal thorns damage to anything I charge through, and switched around a few passive abilities to make it even better... and then started running around on Torment I, allowing me to keep steed charge up practically all the time, making the running through the specific areas really fast. So yes, perfect goblin-searching build!
Got a lot of goblins for a few days, but the menagerist is only a 5% chance out of the goblin types, and was a bit unlucky. But on friday I got 2 menagerists in one run, including the pet I really wanted, the Mimic, which looks like the Luggage from Discworld
With that initial success, I tried another run yesterday and found a third menagerist! That makes only 11 pets missing. I intend to alternate finding a pet with completing a mission in Starcraft II, so I should have plenty of time to find a few more before the next season.
Starcraft II:
In keeping with that intention, I've started poking the Heart of the Swarm campaign once again on normal, not worrying about the achievements which I've already gotten for normal up the point where I left it last time, just focusing on getting used to the campaign units and evolutions again, and basically getting decent enough with the Zerg again to actually complete the campaign.
I will do this through the archive of missions already completed, while also checking out the cutscenes to get re-acquainted with the story. I've now done the first mission, Lab Rat, not very long but still fun to do. Next I plan to do the second mission, and then move back to Diablo 3 for the next pet!
Heroes of the Storm:
Level 308 now, got a level with Genji. Just been doing daily quests and putting xp where available. Brawl this week was Hallow's End themed, with the Headless Horsemen dropping pumpkin bombs on the battlefield, which you pick up to get tricks or treats as well as using them to damage the enemy core. Not very long, but apparently we were better at picking up pumpkins than the enemy rather than facing each other in battle, and I won all 3 of my matches.
Hearthstone:
Also Hallow's End themed, with a Headless Horseman brawl, where you don't face other players but instead take on the Horseman itself with one of 3 themed sets. Had some trouble with the witch deck, but it felt much easier with the pirate deck, though I almost overextended myself overkilling the first phase and nearly failed the second, where you have to take on his head on the battlefield. Still, made it!
4 classes to level 56, getting more golden basic cards, and getting to see which cards are next. The other 5 are not quite there yet, but I hope to push at least a few them during the next week.
WoW:
Finally got Zul down on heroic difficulty. Found a niche position in the fight myself as guardian druid, gathering up the little crawg adds and aoeing them in the center. They do physical damage, and heal for a percentage of the damage dealt; guardian druids can put the rage they get from being attacked into an armor boost to reduce physical damage (while being weak versus magic damage), making us ideal for tanking crawgs and decreasing their healing, making them easier to kill. Because of the rage thing, it's actually easier to kill them when there's a few more around, so overlaps in spawntime take care of themselves
Poked the 7th boss, Mythrax, for a while after that, but juggling the big adds and the stacking debuff is still kind of tricky. Still, it's less annoying than Zul, so we'll get there.
Did a few more mythic expeditions, completing my azerite bar for the week (well, it was still half full from last week, so that didn't take long), though there's not much interest, so I had to use the groupfinder to do it. I'd rather farm the rewards on normal, but there's achievements for mythic as well, so I just want to get that out of the way
Weekly this week is battlegrounds, and I spent a bit of time doing that too, focusing on rated battlegrounds. Finding groups for that is harsh without certain minimal rating and seasonal achievements, but I did find a few, got the 4 battleground wins done, clearing a 500 conquest cap for a new appearance while starting the next, and getting my rating to over 1500! That gave me an achievement, bumped my rank high enough to start working on the mount (though I doubt I'll reach the amount of rbg wins needed before season ends to get it) and should basically make it much easier for me to actually get into groups to do them.
I've been doing the Bradenbrook daily for the Hallow's End holiday still, but did not yet get my missing hat, just a duplicate of a hat I already had unlocked. Ah well, just gotta keep trying, and otherwise try again next year
And finally more Stormsong questing, just a bit. Completed the Brennadam battle, moved north to the Eckhart Lodge for a few quests, and then west for the Cycle of Hatred chapter. Also finalized my list for the remaining questlines to do in the zone while still incorporating all the breadcrumbs, even if I had to jumble up the achievement objectives for it. First up will be the town of Deadwash, where I've found my first new innkeeper and flightmaster in some time, so that's convenient. After I'm done there, I'll try to see what the Tortollan place in the northwest is all about. Maybe I will finally get to deliver the scrolls quest I've been carrying since Drustvar
And that's my report for the week!
