Very happy to report a new member.
Walda-(V)
Many of you older LotRO gamers know him as Alrid or Boudica, was the leader of the Keepers of Ayrshire.
He's Dis' husband.
He's been on LotRO since beta, where he, Dis, and I became friends from the beginning.
It is with great delight that I can say he's returned to LotRO and joined our kin on Anor, the Legendary server.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:15 PM
Welcome Walda!
VardaYesterday at 4:16 PM
My family met them at RenFaire in Texas. Just as delightful a couple in real life.

Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:16 PM
is Walda also a dwarf name?
VardaYesterday at 4:17 PM
I've been remiss in working on the Tolkien Site this past week.
He was a king of Rohan
ArienVYesterday at 4:17 PM
Welcome Walda  i think its a Rohirrim name .. yes indead
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:17 PM
Ah!
VardaYesterday at 4:17 PM
http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/articles/w/WaldaA.htm
Before becoming ruler, he and his military pretty nearly wiped out the orcs.
It came as a surprise when during his kingship, he was killed by an orc.
His son, Folca, avenged him.
So if he has a real hatred of orcs, you know why. ; )
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:19 PM
Irony, or just revenge?
VardaYesterday at 4:19 PM
Folca did the revenge. The death could be both irony and revenge.
Orcs are not known for being forgiving types.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:20 PM
Indeed.

Gaming:

Lord of the Rings Online:
First off, is anyone here that plays the Legendary server, Anor?
We are having so much trouble getting in there, due to high population, that the request has been made that we add a kin branch on Ithil as it is much easier to get on.
FalcoYesterday at 4:21 PM
Aye
VardaYesterday at 4:21 PM
I would like to know how the gang feels about that.
Aiya Falco
Also, for the Legendary servers, we need a vote on where our kin house(s) will go.
One vote so far for Bree by Falco. : )
CelebrianYesterday at 4:22 PM
Aiya, sorry was afk
VardaYesterday at 4:22 PM
No problem, you are just right.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:22 PM
Aiya!
VardaYesterday at 4:22 PM
As an Anorite, how do you feel about a second branch on Ithil, and where do you want the kin house?
I have to run it by others as well, but need your opinion.
ArienVYesterday at 4:23 PM
I am just downloading the patch update with the legendary servers
so i havent tried them yet
CelebrianYesterday at 4:23 PM
I would prefer it on a server that we can actually get on. I can make another char on Ithil.
VardaYesterday at 4:23 PM
If we want the branch, I will start some new characters on Ithil.
I figure Anor will settle down over time, but ouch for now!
ArienVYesterday at 4:24 PM
i think it is probably better on the less crowded server
VardaYesterday at 4:24 PM
Arien, you do plan on making a character on a Legendary server sometime, then?
FalcoYesterday at 4:24 PM
Look for LJAryk on Ithil
VardaYesterday at 4:25 PM
Ok, Ithil branch votes from Falco, Celebrian, Arien.
Ok, Falco
Remember /joinchannel Valar
So we can get together, folks.
I will try to make Fainan if it's not too late.
Sounds as if we have enough to make at least a small group, so we'll give it a shot. Fangorn will come on a new character too
I would only be a tie-breaking vote.
CelebrianYesterday at 4:27 PM
How far have people gotten on Another to make them start over?
VardaYesterday at 4:27 PM
Not starting over, just making new characters on Ithil.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:27 PM
Another? Is that autocorrect?
ArienVYesterday at 4:27 PM
aye
VardaYesterday at 4:27 PM
Mean ol' autocorrect.
CelebrianYesterday at 4:27 PM
Lol
VardaYesterday at 4:27 PM
Anor and Ithil are the two servers for Legendary.
As Anor settles down, we can play there more too if we like.
We may all hit 50 pretty fast and switch to the other
Or just jump between when one server is too busy.
Others have been talking about jumping their kins to Ithil, so we may have that problem in the future.
Two branches covers the problem
ArienVYesterday at 4:30 PM
cool
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:30 PM
And here I am short on time with one character in WoW. You people are nuts.
VardaYesterday at 4:30 PM
Your point?
CelebrianYesterday at 4:30 PM
Lol
VardaYesterday at 4:30 PM
My main server will be Landroval.
ArienVYesterday at 4:30 PM
better nuts than squirrel
VardaYesterday at 4:31 PM
I am setting up branches on Anor (already done) and Ithil (soon TM).
Also squirrelly.
We have branches in many games, so this is not that much different.
Any other comments (nuts was a correct comment), as in a vote on a preferred area for a kinhouse until we can afford an island ini Belfalas?
For Belfalas this time, I'd need help. That would be by writs from members, as I understand it. We can check into that more.
Especially for two kin houses
Valar set up in dwarf territory before Belfalas because it was the best at that time for helping with transport to useful areas, and areas well away from others.
We do not have to restrict ourselves there, but that was our logic. It is very close to Thorin's Hall, no long ride.
It gives a nice travel run too.
ArienVYesterday at 4:36 PM
There .. and Frali is born on Ithil ~
VardaYesterday at 4:36 PM
Please tell why on your vote. I believe Bree was for the looks, which are really nice.
Yay Arien!
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:36 PM
Don't forget the cheese.
VardaYesterday at 4:36 PM
Elves are for the looks and the double decker
and there is Brie cheese
for Bree.
ArienVYesterday at 4:37 PM
i ll have to have a look at the elven houses
VardaYesterday at 4:37 PM
The hobbit area is really nifty and very Tolkienesque, but some have complained of claustrophobia there.
ArienVYesterday at 4:37 PM
havent seen those for a while .. yeah it is quite cool
VardaYesterday at 4:38 PM
Another thing is we could have different kin houses for Anor and Ithil. Need suggestions on that as well, or do both in the same  place to avoid confusion.
If we stay, we will eventually go to an island in Belfalas.
with your help.
I'm going to make my computer explode and try to be everywhere right now, like a proper Valie. : )
CelebrianYesterday at 4:39 PM
I am not sure how guild houses work but I'm not too particular on the location.
VardaYesterday at 4:40 PM
From Pallando: Driving back from visiting some friends, I'm afraid. But aiya to everyone.
CelebrianYesterday at 4:40 PM
Soon as I get finished making lunches for tomorrow I'll make a character on the other server
VardaYesterday at 4:40 PM
Ok. So no vote on the kin from Celebrian. Wonder if Elrond will want elven area.  : )
CelebrianYesterday at 4:41 PM
He prob won't play to be honest
VardaYesterday at 4:41 PM
So no vote from him either, ok. : )
Wow, got right on Ithil.
We now have Fainan on Ithil
ArienVYesterday at 4:47 PM
VardaYesterday at 4:48 PM
So happy to be able to get that name. : )
Ok, so far we have only one vote on a kin house area - Bree. We will keep that open for a while.
Happy to say Elwing has been playing LotRO at my house this weekend. She's always fun company.
Fangorn, Elwing, and I have been tackling quest hubs in Moria, and clearing them together. Much fun.
If there is no more LotRO news?...

Still no Fladrif this week, I wonder what's going on...
VardaYesterday at 4:55 PM
Arien is on WoW, Elrond is on Eve, Celebrian, Falco, Elwing, Fangorn, and Varda are on LotRO.
You might want to phone Fladrif and see if he's ok?
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:55 PM
Well, there's been some interviews about Warcraft 3 reforged this week. Looks pretty good, bit wary about story changes though. But apparently you can not only play the 2 versions next to each other, you can ever play across the versions with friends.
Don't have his number, I think
ArienVYesterday at 4:56 PM
i  ve seen Helm on WoW Europe of course ,  and seen in the suggested friends a Srtrider who must be known to you Phari
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:57 PM
I've heard of him, but not seen him in a while, I think? He was in the valar channel at some point?
VardaYesterday at 4:59 PM
Maybe you can find him again
We had an Aragorn in EuroValar WoW, but I haven't heard from him in some time.
Maybe that was the same player?
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:00 PM
I think that's the one Arien is talking about, yes.
VardaYesterday at 5:01 PM
Phar, thanks for the WC3 news.
Any other gaming news?
ArienVYesterday at 5:02 PM
i have tried out the new facrtion for Star Trek online
VardaYesterday at 5:02 PM
How was it?
ArienVYesterday at 5:02 PM
as Temporal Agent ~
really cool intro
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:02 PM
...you're a Timelord?
ArienVYesterday at 5:02 PM
you play the first ten level in the time of the original series
some quest givers or objects of your mission are original enterprise members
and yes .. time travel was popular with captain kirk and co
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:04 PM
Don't remember it with Kirk much, though I didn't see as much of the original series, compared to TNG or Voyager, which did feature time travel.
ArienVYesterday at 5:04 PM
There are a few episodes which involve the enterprise and her crew time travels  .. and yes in the first movie was it ?
but anyway it is good fun up to a certain point when you reach level ten .. where you turn agent and take up the normal game story line 200 years later or so
I enjoyed it but was disappointed it took that turn .. would have loved to stay in that original time
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:07 PM
Maybe you get to visit again?
ArienVYesterday at 5:09 PM
I hope so
if i remember right
that was all from me
VardaYesterday at 5:10 PM

Tolkien!
Maiar known to be on Middle-earth, especially ones that Gandalf bumped into.
Which Maiar do we know of that went to Middle-earth (after the walls were put up for Valinor).
You can start with Gandalf if you like. ; )
ArienVYesterday at 5:12 PM
Olorin
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:12 PM
Mithrandir!
ArienVYesterday at 5:12 PM
and there was Saruman .. i do not know his Maiar name :frowning:
VardaYesterday at 5:12 PM
Curunir
ArienVYesterday at 5:13 PM
Tarkun for the dwarves wasnt it?
for Gandalf
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:13 PM
And Sharku for the orcs, for Saruman.
VardaYesterday at 5:13 PM
And any name will work if we recognize which Maia you mean.
ArienVYesterday at 5:13 PM
interesting the similarity
even in the language .. well i guess there is Sauron
he was a Maia at least
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:15 PM
Then there's that hippie - ehrr, I mean animal friend, Radagast.
VardaYesterday at 5:16 PM
Sauron was a Maia, right
ArienVYesterday at 5:18 PM
there are the two blue wizards .. two other Maia of who we do not know the names unfortunately
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:19 PM
well, there's Pallando...
ArienVYesterday at 5:19 PM
we only know they went east and were never heard of a again
VardaYesterday at 5:19 PM
Alatar and Pallando : )
It is said they made cults in the East
Possibly in order to confound Sauron.
Saruman left them there, busy, and returned to his ring studies, and hunting the One Ring.
Two Maiar out of his way!
There was a Maia in Moria.
Which one was that?
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:21 PM
something with wings, was it?
or without?
VardaYesterday at 5:21 PM
hehe
Something smoky that looked a lot like wings
but no Maiar or Valar other than those of Manwe and Varda could fly anymore after the treason of Morgoth.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:21 PM
and a bit of fire
VardaYesterday at 5:22 PM
True
The Balrog of Moria.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:22 PM
Tom Bombadil was probably a Maia.
VardaYesterday at 5:22 PM
Early stories had many Balrogs, but that was not in what we take as canon, as they also were around mechanical dragons good as transport.
Tom would fit the Maia profile quite well, even if not originally intended to be that.
As a nature being, that would make him a Maia of Yavanna.
Some of the Maiar were known to be very nearly as strong as Valar.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:23 PM
One with the power of song, though.
VardaYesterday at 5:24 PM
Song was a power of all the Ainur.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:25 PM
True, Gandalf could sing as well
VardaYesterday at 5:25 PM
Goldberry is an unknown. She may have been a Maia, or an offspring of a Maia (River-woman's daughter?), or another of Yavanna's nature Maiar.
Music was how all the Ainur together created Arda from Eru's vision.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:25 PM
Or one of Ulmo's.
Or Uinen.
VardaYesterday at 5:25 PM
True, or one of Ulmo's.
Uinen was a Maia, so Ulmo is more likely. We know he listened and operated through rivers.
There's some argument about the Eagles of Manwe, and the Ents of Yavanna, but they or some of them may have been Maiar.
Or they may have been mortals of great strength.
How about other Maiar not from the LotR that we know came to Middle-earth after Valinor was set up?
You mentioned Uinen.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:30 PM
Uinen and Osse were in play, somewhat malevolent, but written out a bit.
VardaYesterday at 5:31 PM
They were in there, aye.
Uinen tended to help calm Osse.
Osse was one of the very few able to say no to Morgoth, but he seems to have had some rough spots afterwards.
Another Maia is known to have been in Middle-earth, encountered by Thingol.
Who was she?
ArienVYesterday at 5:34 PM
Melian
VardaYesterday at 5:34 PM
Aye!
ArienVYesterday at 5:34 PM
Luthien's mother
VardaYesterday at 5:34 PM
Right
A whole mess of Maiar came over with Morgoth and Sauron. We know some of them.
ArienVYesterday at 5:35 PM
the balrogs
VardaYesterday at 5:35 PM
true
ArienVYesterday at 5:35 PM
werent they fire maiar?
VardaYesterday at 5:35 PM
They had fire and shadow, so yes
They apparently could fly in the early days, attacked Tilion, but he drove them off.
This is why they may have had shadowy, vestigial wings later.
With a Maia like Melian known to have been walking the woods of Middle-earth, there may have been others that never came into the stories.
ArienVYesterday at 5:39 PM
hmm could the stag lord we encountre in LotrO be one of them ?
i forgot his name ..
but you know who i mean?
VardaYesterday at 5:39 PM
It's a strong possibility
The Hunter
He could have been a Maia or Orome
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:40 PM
Malorne? No, different universes...
VardaYesterday at 5:40 PM
They had  a strong suggestion that he was Orome
ArienVYesterday at 5:40 PM
VardaYesterday at 5:40 PM
He had a lot of Maiar around him
The devs were not allowed to use the Silmarillion, so they couldn't say that outright.
ArienVYesterday at 5:41 PM
(interesting side note  .. the Celtic God Herne gets depicted as stag or humanoid with stag antlers)
VardaYesterday at 5:41 PM
Also called Cernunnos
ArienVYesterday at 5:41 PM
rightt
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:42 PM
Heh, Discworld has him reversed as Herne the Hunted, god of small furry animals.
VardaYesterday at 5:42 PM
JRRT wasn't terribly fond of Celtic mythology, but had to know it well enough to be annoyed by it. ; )
Do we know a hunter god in the Norse?
Googling got 3 references.
ArienVYesterday at 5:45 PM
Ing .. i think ? lisnt he a nordic god of hunt .. or  Ingis .. its where the name Ingrid comes from
the name translates as rider of Ing
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:46 PM
Odin, chief god and ruler of Asgard, associated with wisdom, war, battle, and death, and also magic, poetry, prophecy, victory, and the hunt.
Skaði, a jötunn and goddess associated with bowhunting, skiing, winter, and mountains.
Ullr Norse god of hunting, archery, and skiing.
That's from the first answer I get when googling "norse god hunt"

RTS game, akin to Age of Empires, but with technology ages ranging from the stone age to the year 2200.
So you could theoretically have laser-gunners facing stone-throwers :stuck_out_tongue:

Blizzard gaming!
Hearthstone:
3 more classes to level 56! Only one remaining, and that's one fight away; should be during the week, I'm sure!
A murloc brawl this week; choose a class, get random class spells and a whole lot of murlocs.
Murlocs being murlocs, a lot of randomness abound, as well as mutual buffs snowballing very fast. Quite fun!
Also this week is/was the event whereby you can get 500 gold by doing a repeatable quest to challenge a friend. I asked a friend in WoW and together we challenged each other and got 500 each. Very nice!
Heroes of the Storm:
Fun brawl, the testing facility, 10x the same hero facing each other in teams of 5 in a small-ish arena, with a random gimmick for each round.
Level 313 now, so 3 levels got. Pretty sure one was Kerrigan and one was Gul'dan, but not sure about the third. Another Kerrigan perhaps?
Either that, or one of the random heroes we got in the brawl.
WoW:
Finally, heroic G'huun defeated! Heroic Uldir clear now, with a feat of strength for doing so before the next raid comes out.
No new expedition rewards, but I did get a mythic achievement for the Molten Cay expedition, the only one available this week that I had not gotten yet.
Weekly was 5 pvp pet battles, which as usual I used as an opportunity to work on the brawling achievements to get 10 wins with each family. This time was my first 5 with beast family. Had looked up some guides, but all with at least one pet I did not have, so I just threw 3 of the little zandalari raptors at it and it went decently well, won about half the fights.
Will need to remember it for next time
Completed Stormsong questing! Completed the Briarback Kraul, and then visited the Tortollans for a fight against the Venture Company, swimming with a big turtle, and unlocking a minigame that comes back in world quests.
With Stormsong complete, I decided to finally unlock world quests, and give those a go.
The idea was to get the 3 Kul Tiras factions to exalted before the patch, so I can claim the 100 exalted achievement before it becomes account-wide, but even if I did every world quest on the continent all the time I might still not make it. So to keep my own sanity I decided to stick to emissaries, pet battles (with pet charm rewards), any WQ with an extra reputation token, and other than that every single world quest I had not done before. And since this was my first week, initially that was everything
Kul Tiras only, though, Zandalar can wait until I've progressed more on the war campaign and maybe have unlocked a few more flightpoints. I don't really need 7th legion reputation yet, since I already have enough for most of the steps of the war campaign.
So yes! Many, maaaany world quests. My count is at 117 different ones so far, as well as certain duplicates for tokens or pet charms. I got the achievement (a part of the Pathfinder meta achievement) for 100 different ones in 4 days after unlocking the world quests. I'm starting to see more duplicates, so it's a bit less work, but still a few hours a night spent doing that.
When that dies down a bit I can resume the storylines, starting with the final Jaina storyline - including a whole bunch of instances - and then the war campaign itself.
Hopefully that'll all happen before the patch.
With world quests unlocked, I also got access to the Warfront quests. Taking a tour of the Arathi area, killing all the rare mobs there for pets, mounts and toys for the first time, and completing the warfront itself.
I did all the different quests within the warfront, as well as an achievement for having fought all 3 commanders there. As for the outdoor Arathi zone rares, I've gotten 2 toys, including a costume, as well as 3 pets: A void pet, a spider pet, and a mountain giant pet. Very cute!
When the warfront week is over, I'll get to kill em all over again, and maybe get even more stuff
And that's my report for the week!

Sounds like a busy week.

There's some talk about the players calling Ithil an RP-encouraged server like Landroval.

Email from Eonwe:
I don't know whether or not I'll stop in on Anor. I barely have time for the gaming I do make time for. If someone wants to keep me updated on the kinship roster there, then I have no qualms putting it up on the Games Site, but otherwise I won't have a way to keep track, just like any other game I don't play.
I'm waiting to see if any Black Friday/ Cyber Monday sales come to LotRO, and if they do maybe I'll shell out some money for one of the Mordor expansion versions that comes with the High Elf. Otherwise I may keep holding off.
In personal gaming news, I have been playing some D3 this season, and I managed to master a class set dungeon : The Crusader's Roland's Set dungeon. Doing that took me to the next step in the season journey (Destroyer), the first time I've bothered going so far, so hopefully I can take it all the way to the end and get the stash space, because if I don't I don't know if I'm going to care enough to push it that far again, heh.
