Eonwe Valar - Yesterday at 4:17 PM
Heya all.
Varda - Yesterday at 4:17 PM
Aiya Eonwe! : )
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:17 PM
Aiya!
Varda - Yesterday at 4:24 PM
Power is going funny over here
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:24 PM
Making jokes?
Varda - Yesterday at 4:24 PM
I hope. : )
Any further business? Suggestions?
Tolkien discussion:
Eonwe had an interesting and unusual suggestion. : )
Eonwe, would you like to mention your topic? It's definitely one we haven't tried before.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:28 PM
I am intrigued...
Eonwe Valar - Yesterday at 4:30 PM
Sure: Just a random thought --- What Avengers character does each Fellowship member correspond to?
Varda - Yesterday at 4:30 PM
hehe
First, who are the Fellowship members? Then we try a match-up for each.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:31 PM
Ehrrr. I've seen like.. one Avengers movie.
Varda - Yesterday at 4:31 PM
No comics either?
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:31 PM
Nope.
Varda - Yesterday at 4:31 PM
Arien, how about you?
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:31 PM
I've done some interwebz research as a result of the movie craze, though.
Varda - Yesterday at 4:31 PM
Well, we can list the Fellowship members.
ArienV - Yesterday at 4:31 PM
i dont know Avengfers either
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:31 PM
So I'm kinda familiar with them.
Varda - Yesterday at 4:32 PM
Nine Fellowship members, or 10 if we count Bill the Pony.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:32 PM
Frodo, Sam, Pippin, Merry, Aragorn, Gandalf, Boromir, Gimli, Legolas... did I get em all?
Varda - Yesterday at 4:33 PM
That's nine, no repeats, good.
Ok, so which Avenger can we put in for Frodo?
What traits does Frodo have that we can try to work at matching?
Who is this Frodo anyway?
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:34 PM
Resilient, determined, touched by destiny...
Varda - Yesterday at 4:34 PM
Destiny, that would be a major definer. He was the only one that really had to go on the quest.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:34 PM
Yep.
Varda - Yesterday at 4:34 PM
So do we have an Avenger who really had to go up against the bad guys?
Even if the others changed?
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:35 PM
...shall I just google a list of the avengers? :stuck_out_tongue:
Varda - Yesterday at 4:35 PM
There are a lot of them, and feel free.
Versus Thanos, in my opinion, that would be Dr. Strange. Any other nominees?
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:36 PM
I don't even know who that is, he must've joined the movie series later
Varda - Yesterday at 4:37 PM
Try Avengers Infinity War cast for a Google.
He's one of my favorites. I'm a long-time comics fan and saw all the Avengers movies.
Another we could say had to go up against Thanos wasn't an Avenger, Gamora.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:38 PM
Had a discussion like that in WoW a few days ago with someone who was
going to see Infinity War, and I did a quick search and found out
there's like 19 movies...
I've seen like 6.
Varda - Yesterday at 4:38 PM
Heh. And you managed to miss that many? ; )
ah ok
But Eonwe specified Avengers, so Dr. Strange.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:39 PM
Maybe more, let's see... I saw 2 or 3 iron mans, 2 Thors, a hulk and the first avengers... yeah, 7 or 8.
Varda - Yesterday at 4:39 PM
Maybe you know the actor, Benedict Cumberbatch?
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:39 PM
Not bad, actually..
Sherlock?
Varda - Yesterday at 4:39 PM
Right.
Also Smaug. ; P
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:39 PM
Ah, right.
Varda - Yesterday at 4:39 PM
So we even have a Hobbit tie-in with that one.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:39 PM
Is that dr. strange?
Varda - Yesterday at 4:40 PM
Yes
No other nominees for the Frodo Avenger?
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:40 PM
hmm, strange to see him with a mustache
then again, stranger to see him with scales...
Varda - Yesterday at 4:40 PM
Sure looks like Dr. Strange from the comics though.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:40 PM
I'll take your word for it
Varda - Yesterday at 4:41 PM
Try another Google? : )
Ok, next up. What are Sam's defining characteristics?
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:42 PM
grin my first thought for this topic was to put Sam as the hulk because of his performance at Cirith Ungol
Varda - Yesterday at 4:42 PM
hah! Deluxe fighter against a huge bad. : )
Sam: loyalty?
Unflagging determination?
Now someone else gets to pick an Avenger. : )
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:44 PM
Who's loyal to dr. Strange?
Varda - Yesterday at 4:44 PM
Maybe Wong?
He's not an Avenger, but answers the question.
So who in the Avengers displays real loyalty to another? This is not Harry to Dumbledore, guys.
Want to open it up to the whole Avengers movies?
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:47 PM
Is there any specific loyalty between.. checks list
Stark and Rhodes?
Eonwe Valar - Yesterday at 4:47 PM
Stark and Rhodes are friends
Varda - Yesterday at 4:48 PM
Bucky and Captain America?
Of course Bucky also tries to kill Cap, but it wasn't by choice.
Eonwe Valar - Yesterday at 4:50 PM
THat's probably a good comparison... if we put Captain America as Sam, with all he went through to save Bucky.
Varda - Yesterday at 4:50 PM
Can we use Cap more than one time? I was going to put him in for Aragorn as the leader type. : )
but true, Cap showed loyalty more than anyone that I can think of.
Pippin is next on Phar's list. What is his defining characteristic?
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:52 PM
Curious, tends to mess things up in the process, but adaptable and quick to make friends.
Varda - Yesterday at 4:52 PM
Cool
Also youth, comic relief, not knowing what's going on?
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:52 PM
Yes.
That tells me you might have someone in mind
Varda - Yesterday at 4:53 PM
Two actually. Want other folks to give their comments.
I was trying to think of Pippin's definers.
With your parameters, may cut it to one.
Suggestions anyone? Feel free to use the giant cast of Infinity Wars.
Eonwe Valar - Yesterday at 4:54 PM
Spiderman is the one that comes to mind.
Varda - Yesterday at 4:55 PM
Agreed. : )
Merry is the next on Phar's list. What are his definers?
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:57 PM
Hmm. Well, he seems the most clever and confident of the 4 hobbits.
Wants to be a part of the action despite low odds.
Varda - Yesterday at 4:57 PM
Ok. And he seems to watch out for Pippin.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:58 PM
Loyal to his own detriment.
Varda - Yesterday at 4:58 PM
Sort of acts like a big brother to the younger Pippin.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:58 PM
Yes.
Seems to be brave because he wants to be, not just because he needs to be, if that makes sense.
Varda - Yesterday at 4:59 PM
Aye. Bravery is natural to him
Varda - Yesterday at 5:00 PM
He thinks about someone else, so he doesn't have time to be afraid as much for himself?
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 5:00 PM
Works for me.
Varda - Yesterday at 5:01 PM
Ok, do you have an Avenger or Avenger friend pick?
Anyone?
Eonwe Valar - Yesterday at 5:02 PM
I don't know the name of spiderman's friend in the movie, but I guess him.
Varda - Yesterday at 5:02 PM
I pick the Black Widow.
You lost me, Eonwe.
But ok. : )
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 5:06 PM
(side-note, over the past few weeks I've actually been watching the
various X-men movies... I take it they're unrelated so far, despite
also being marvel?")
Varda - Yesterday at 5:06 PM
Aragorn's next. Any defining characteristics?
ArienV - Yesterday at 5:07 PM
Boromir is the Hulk ^^
you wont like him when he s angry ~
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 5:07 PM
hehe
Varda - Yesterday at 5:07 PM
Phar, Marvel had to sell the rights to their popular X-men. Some rumor that they might be getting them back. [Note: comments also apply to the Fantastic Four.]
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 5:07 PM
Aha!
Varda - Yesterday at 5:07 PM
lol Arien : )
Marvel did not do the X-men movies.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 5:08 PM
Was not aware of this, but it explains a lot.
Varda - Yesterday at 5:08 PM
Aragorn, leader. Captain America, leader. Ok, next. : )
Gandalf. Defining characteristic?
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 5:09 PM
Old. Bearded. Guide. Trying to make the others do the work because he
wouldn't be around forever. First to do, then came back and took a more
active role.
*First to die
Eonwe Valar - Yesterday at 5:10 PM
Captain America? :}
Varda - Yesterday at 5:10 PM
Good point.
or Gandalf, wizard. Dr. Strange, sorceror supreme.
Nice that we can find more than one that works
Gimli. Defining characteristics?
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 5:13 PM
Short. Stocky. Beard. Grumpy, but with humor in the right situations. Likes caves, trees not so much.
A natural sprinter.
Varda - Yesterday at 5:13 PM
heh
Caves that don't have ghosts at least.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 5:13 PM
Good with axes.
Competitive.
Honest and direct, bit of a straight man (ironically?)
Varda - Yesterday at 5:14 PM
so, maybe the axe maker in Infinity War?
Eitri the Dwarf King
Eonwe Valar - Yesterday at 5:15 PM
I was thinking Thor.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 5:16 PM
Well he does live in a mountain.
I'm not sure Thor does, but that building's kinda shaped like one...
Eonwe Valar - Yesterday at 5:17 PM
Space Dwarves are apparently bigger than many races, hehe.
Varda - Yesterday at 5:18 PM
Thor, interesting. He does carry an axe, bearded. Honest. Straight man even making his own jokes.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 5:18 PM
I thought he had a hammer.
But otherwise it fits!
Varda - Yesterday at 5:18 PM
He did. And then he had an axe. Courtesy of Eitri.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 5:19 PM
Ah.
Sounds good to me then.
Varda - Yesterday at 5:19 PM
A winner. : )
Legolas. Defining characteristics?
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 5:20 PM
Elf. Tall. Blond. Bow. Agile. Bit quiet.
Also a bit competitive.
Lives in a forest.
Something something seagulls.
Varda - Yesterday at 5:21 PM
heh
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 5:21 PM
Decent with a boat?
Varda - Yesterday at 5:26 PM
This is low-hanging fruit and I was going to let someone else pick the Avenger. : )
One of the other Avengers even uses the Legolas name for him once.
(Iron Man said it.)
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 5:27 PM
Well, you know my lack of experience with the movies, though I think there was an archer in the first Avengers movie.
Varda - Yesterday at 5:28 PM
Aye, there was.
Figured Arien or Eonwe might say it though.
Eonwe Valar - Yesterday at 5:28 PM
Hawkeye, hehe
Varda - Yesterday at 5:28 PM
Aye.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 5:28 PM
Yes, that's the one.
I've no idea if he applies in any way except "bow" though.
Varda - Yesterday at 5:29 PM
And with that, we made it to the end of our comparative list.
He has a house in a forest.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 5:29 PM
We're going with the Hulk for Boromir then?
Varda - Yesterday at 5:29 PM
Feel free to mention another. : )
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 5:29 PM
Ah, does he? Interesting.
Varda - Yesterday at 5:29 PM
What is Boromir's definer?
Hawkeye is also agile. As in that time on the skyscraper, and even dropping off.
Both Legolas and Hawkeye have great eyesight.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 5:31 PM
Boromir. Good fighter, loyal to his roots, likes to weaponize things...
Easily seduced by power, even if he wants to use it for a good cause.
well, "easily" is relative
Varda - Yesterday at 5:32 PM
He doesn't want to waste what looks like a great weapon?
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 5:32 PM
Hmmhm.
Can fight with a few arrows in him.
Varda - Yesterday at 5:32 PM
Quite a few. : )
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 5:32 PM
"pierced by many" I believe the line was?
Varda - Yesterday at 5:41 PM
Any further comments, suggestions, business, etc?
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 5:41 PM
So do we have for Boromir?
Varda - Yesterday at 5:41 PM
Well Arien suggested the Hulk. Do we have another candidate?
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 5:42 PM
I suppose it works. Questionable loyalty when he's in a certain state?
Varda - Yesterday at 5:42 PM
Aye. Well-meaning but have to beware on the loyalty front.

Flashgames!
Varda - Yesterday at 6:16 PM
Purr away. ; )
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 6:17 PM
A few simple games this week, but they are ones you can get better and better at
http://www.onemorelevel.com/game/moving_up is the first one! You have a
platform with a ball on it. Use arrow keys to go up and down with the
platform, and tilting it left and right, to guide the ball through a
maze.
Moving Up - OneMoreLevel.com
Various levels, each harder than the last.
https://www.kongregate.com/games/draft_games/three-seconds is the second game! You have 3 seconds to defeat each level...
Kongregate
Three Seconds
You have three seconds to reach the end of the levels.
Fortunately, you can grab small clock to reload your timer with 3 more seconds.
Take care of spinning b...
but you can collect clocks to extend that time by 3 seconds!
Oh, and it's a maze, with some additional hindrances added
http://www.onemorelevel.com/game/color_tunnel is the third game! Go
through the tunnel, use left and right to turn around the tunnel and
avoid the obstacles, moving or not. See how far you get!
Color Tunnel - OneMoreLevel.com
The actual game seems to be called tunnel rush, though.
Though apparently there's another game called tunnel rush as well, which might explain the name change.

Hearthstone:
All classes to 54 now! Onward to 55. A few more used golden basic cards coming up when we get there.
Interesting brawl this week, choose 2 cards and the deck is filled up
with copies of those. There are some interestingly overpowered
combinations out there, and you just have to try to have a more
overpowered one than the opponent, or at least one that can
counter it
I found myself with a daily quest to win 3 of those as well, and used
it to try out multiple combinations for the classes that still needed
to get to 54.
Completed all 4 quests for Monster Hunt. Only managed to actually
complete the Hunt with 1 out of the 4 heroes along the way, but all I
needed was individual wins for the quests. I might continue it later
on, or if I ever get quests for them, though I'm not sure those exist.
It's fun, and there are guides too, but it's far from a priority.
Heroes of the Storm: Still level 274, though I did get to use a few of
my heroes I hadn't used in a while, as quests allowed, which was fun.
Brawl this week was a single-lane map, this time with minerals to
collect to provide temporary buffs for your hero. Otherwise nothing
special. Luckily I was able to use a hero I was familiar with for every
match, so didn't need to experiment.
WoW:
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 7:00 PM
Raiding went as usual, nothing new from the old raids, and quick clears
of heroic Antorus. I did get a few new appearances there, 2 cloaks and
some gloves. The more I get now, the less I'll have to farm solo in the
future, I guess
But we did venture out into an older Legion raid, the Emerald
Nightmare, on tuesday, and got all the fights done on mythic
difficulty. So all those achievements got!
I've got enough essences now to buy another legendary, but since it's
just alt-stuff now, I'm not too bothered. I might save up and buy a
bunch of random legendaries before the new expansion hits, that might
be interesting.
Weekly quest was indeed world quests. Always nice, as it basically
completes itself as I go for emissaries and paragon rewards. The first
night of the reset I had so many WQs to do, I got halfway through the
weekly already!
And I did have some luck with the paragon rewards, as I got the
Orphaned Felbat pet from Legionfall last night. So I don't need to do
those world quests anymore
And then, more end-of-expansion projects!
ArienV - Yesterday at 7:07 PM
Namarie every one and congfratulations to all achieved :)#
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 7:08 PM
Got the Underbelly Tycoon achievement for collecting 20000 sightless
eyes pretty early on in the week, as I decided to push through and got
the last 7000 in one session. Quite fun with a friendly group.
Ultimately a fun little activity, and I did get to know every corner of
the Dalaran sewers, and all the Sightless Eye stuff that's sold among
the vendors. I never did get to see that repeatable quest that is
supposed to spawn sometimes, but if I ever do see it while I'm
traveling through Dalaran proper I might give it a visit just to see.
Namarie!
Then, I poked Ashran for all the achievements that are going away when
they removed the battleground for the next expansion. Did some directed
achievement getting first, freeing 3 prisoners in the horde base
(hurrah for stealth) and camping out the last 2 rares I hadn't killed
yet. Needed to wait at least 30 minutes for each, but it was worth it!
Now there's just Bounty Hunter (looting/winning all the various
bodyparts from horde corpses) and Divide and Conquer (killing 5000
players outside the Road of Glory) left. I even ran into a premade raid
for them, where horde and alliance took turns killing each other at a
graveyard. Turns out it was organized by a Discord server, which I
joined to see when the next ones will happen. Very efficient! I got
half the remaining kills I need, and one more lootable item, though
that latter is going to take a lot longer to complete this way. A lot
of people who need the rare stuff like pandaren hides or goblin noses,
since those races are pretty rare.
But it's nice to get some progress on that, and we'll see how far we
get before the achievements go away. Next premade will be next week,
and I'm already signed up for it.
The Discord stuff also covers other battlegrounds, and I might see
about getting some stuff at the Strand of the Ancients done too. I'd
written that one off because it's going away too, while I lack a lot of
wins and some very difficult achievements, but with this premade stuff
(including deals with the opposition) I might actually get pretty far.
In the meantime, next project! There's a demon npc on Argus that gives
you a buff allowing you to collect intact demon eyes, which you can
then use to buy stuff from him. This includes a toy, a pet, and a
portal required to reach a certain rare mob on Argus, which can also
drop a toy.
After a few hours yesterday and one hour before the meeting tonight,
I'm already at 2/3rds of all the eyes I need, and have the portal and
buyable toy in my possession. With the portal, I've started killing
that rare mob daily, and hope to get his toy soon. When I get the last
900 eyes I'm missing, I'll buy the pet as well.
Along the way, in a fast-respawning farming spot and a group of up to 5
people, I've also completed the achievement for killing 5000 demons,
giving me a new title. So that's another goal completed.
After I get those last eyes, I'm pretty much done with group-required
achievements for Legion, and will be moving on to all the solo things I
still want to do. I like saving those for last, since it means I can go
at my own pace, be distracted all I want, and take my time for
everything. And how far I get with those, I'll tell you next week after
I arrive at the meeting late
And that's my report for the week!
