Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 4:17 PM
Eh, can't find it. Nevermind.
Varda - Last Sunday at 4:17 PM
We'll let you figure it out, no rush.

Valar Guild members who showed up in a kin branch this past week, that we here happen to know of:
    LotRO:
Anarion
Aranuir
Arien
Celebrian
Dis
Falco
Fangorn
Gil-galad
Lenwe
Luthien
Morwe
Nar
Nimrodel
Orome

Please feel free to add in here.
(Surprise, Arien, got you listed this time!)
Ar-Pharazon has been in a ton of games, we know, but looks as if he'll be listing them later.
In other news, for LotRO:
heh, no, already mentioned.
ArienV - Last Sunday at 4:21 PM
noticed
Varda - Last Sunday at 4:21 PM
But we do have a raid tonight with Irony & Spite. Here's hoping some more of us can go. Need Discord.
hehe
I might be willing to give up my spot, bit under the weather.
Any other gaming news, business, suggestions, kudos, I told you so's, etc?
Need an officer to help you enter a branch, do something else for you? Need supplies, stuff made?

Celebrian - Last Sunday at 4:24 PM
What games are there chapters? I know WOW has one.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 4:24 PM
'k, this one's more in line with Celebrian's.
Varda - Last Sunday at 4:24 PM
Way to go, Phar
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 4:24 PM
now, heroic vault, half afk
Varda - Last Sunday at 4:25 PM
Most of the chapters have become more of shadow groups, where we know each other and help out, and work inside other guilds in friendly fashion.
Irmo and Miriel (Irm and Maha in Discord) have a Guild Wars 2 group.
Pallando-Valar handles Eve Online
Eonwe handles WoW
I handle LotRO
We used to have a group in SWTOR but they lost interest in the game.
Arien, do you know of anything going on still these days in WoW Euro?
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 4:27 PM
Well, we're both still there!
Varda - Last Sunday at 4:27 PM
We did have a Diablo 3 group, kind of disintegrated, but I think they all still have each other's friend names and sometimes get together.
For WoW Euro, Arien, Phar, Helm. Every see Aragorn these days?
One way to check is to look on our Games Site
It shows who has updated what they are playing so they can get together. Please email Eonwe with updated info.
A cc to me is kind too, for the Membership page, which is not kept nearly so up to date.
[Note: ask Scatha about joining in our Steam group. For Hearthstone, check with Ar-Pharazon.]
Hope that helped.
Celebrian - Last Sunday at 4:30 PM
Yep, thanks.
Varda - Last Sunday at 4:30 PM
We can also use helpers on the Tolkien Site.
Celebrian - Last Sunday at 4:30 PM
Those are the games I play mostly anyway, LOTRO, WOW, GW@ and EVE
Varda - Last Sunday at 4:31 PM
Ah good.
Feel free to drop a message on those folks over there to your right so they can read it when they're online.
If you need any help with LotRO, I'm usually on in the evenings and often on Discord.
Any further business, great questions like that last, or other?

Tolkien:
First off, Eonwe has been considering his next forum post for our ongoing group story. ; )
He's been seriously busy and hopes to get that going when he can squeeze a few minutes together.

Second:
Today has been set up by the Tolkien Society, and has diffused out into the Tolkien fan population (us too), for
Happy Tolkien Reading Day!

The Tolkien Society
Daniel Helen
Tolkien Reading Day
25 March
Theme they picked for 2018 is "Home and Hearth: The Many Ways of Being a Hobbit"
For us, we may go a bit further afield as the hobbits left home and hearth, but kept it in their hearts while adventuring.

So for today, we might do some hobbit-centered Tolkien Moments.
For those unfamiliar, a Tolkien Moment is a quoted part from Tolkien's books that we especially liked, or is very much in line with the theme.
We may type it while looking at it, so please forgive speed typos.
When very fortunate, we may have it typed ahead of our turn to be called.

Consider, first off, what is something distinctly hobbitish? Go ahead and toss in your thoughts, here, please.
(not talking quotes, just your impressions)
It can be physical or mental.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 4:40 PM
food, mathoms, holes in the ground
Aranuir - Last Sunday at 4:40 PM
haha
Varda - Last Sunday at 4:40 PM
[Kinship] Naugorome: furry feet
Aranuir - Last Sunday at 4:40 PM

genealogy
Varda - Last Sunday at 4:41 PM
Nice. That poem is something they carry with them everywhere.
ArienV - Last Sunday at 4:41 PM
uh sounds all very Scottish to me
Varda - Last Sunday at 4:41 PM
Well, they did come from UK beginnings in JRRT's head.  : )
Aranuir - Last Sunday at 4:42 PM
very nostalgic

Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 4:42 PM
pipeweed
ArienV - Last Sunday at 4:42 PM
parties .. Hobbits like socializing
Varda - Last Sunday at 4:42 PM
Often very practical, as one might expect of a farming and marketing community.
[Kinship] Disvandl: size
[Kinship] Dariadwen: non-adventurous and prefering a simple lifestyle  (That's Celebrian)

They lived in unusual quarters. Here's a Tolkien Moment to go with that:
Fellowship Chapter 1:
In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole, and that means comfort.
...
From the LotRO group:
[Kinship] Disvandl: house preferenc
[Kinship] Naugorome: Food lovin'
[Kinship] Disvandl: agrarian lifestyle
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 4:46 PM
dislike of swimming
Aranuir - Last Sunday at 4:47 PM
yeah bingo boffin a case in point [Note: refers to a long quest chain in LotRO helping Bingo have an adventure.]
haha
Varda - Last Sunday at 4:47 PM
Brandybucks and Tooks were exceptions, but aye
Celebrian - Last Sunday at 4:47 PM
Im doing his quest chain now, its so long.
Varda - Last Sunday at 4:47 PM
That quest chain wasn't intended to be done in a day. : )
Kind of a mini-game.
Celebrian - Last Sunday at 4:48 PM
Yeah Im kinda behind.
Varda - Last Sunday at 4:48 PM
Me too, unfortunately. Must fix.  : )

Another thing the Hobbits had, was courage. It might not be obvious to outsiders until something crazy happened.
Like being in a barrow with wights, with one's friends unconscious and trapped, and a hand crawling towards them.
Fellowship "Fog on the Barrow-downs"
But the courage that had been awakened in him was now too strong: he could not leave his friends so easily.
He wavered, groping in his pocket, and then fought with himself again; and as he did so the arm crept nearer.
Suddenly resolve hardened in him, and he seized a short sword that lay beside him, and kneeling he stooped low over the bodies of his companions.
With what strength he had he hewed at the crawling arm near the wrist, and the hand broke off;
but at the same moment the sword splintered up to the hilt.
There was a shriek and the light vanished. In the dark there was a snarling noise.

my browsers are acting up, am I still here or is my internet gone?
ArienV - Last Sunday at 4:52 PM
here is a link to the poem by the way

I sit beside the fire and think
Varda - Last Sunday at 4:53 PM
Thanks
Phar, might it have something to do with the way the new icon is linked? Seems unlikely but a thought.
ArienV - Last Sunday at 4:54 PM
you are here for me
Varda - Last Sunday at 4:54 PM
I see you, Phar.
He disappeared briefly
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 4:55 PM
Right, now I'm back.
Varda - Last Sunday at 4:55 PM
You're back, Phar. Can you see us?
ahh good.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 4:55 PM
I think.
Yeah, missed a lot of chat it seems
Varda - Last Sunday at 4:56 PM
poke
Scroll back?
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 4:56 PM
and one message got repeated it seems

Varda - Last Sunday at 4:57 PM
Ok, here's another quote. Hobbits have courage, but they can also do it using smarts.
Fellowship: "A Knife in the Dark"
There was a faint stir in the leaves, and a cock crowed far away.
The cold hour before dawn was passing.
The figure by the door moved.
In the dark without moon or stars a drawn blade gleamed, as if a chill light had been unsheathed.
There was a blow, soft but heavy, and the door shuddered.
"Open in the name of Mordor!" said a voice thin and menacing.
At a second blow the door yielded and fell back, with timbers burst and lock broken.
The black figures passed swiftly in.
Varda - Last Sunday at 5:00 PM
At that moment, among the trees nearby, a horn rang out.
It rent the night like fire on a hill-top.
AWAKE! FEAR! FIRE! FOES! AWAKE!
Fatty Bolger had not been idle.
.endquote
...
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 5:01 PM
is that from Knife in the Dark? I thought that was at Weathertop.
Varda - Last Sunday at 5:01 PM
Surprise.
A bit sneaky there on the quoting, but hope you enjoyed it.
It was, yes.
For me, first and second page of the chapter.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 5:02 PM
Hmm, might check when I'm less regularly harangued by parents who want stuff.
Varda - Last Sunday at 5:03 PM
o ok. Don't get in trouble!
We want you able to come here.
The book will still be there to look in.

Aranuir had another topic for us, but it may be too late now?
It's been an hour. How many are able to stay?
Aranuir - Last Sunday at 5:06 PM
gandalf and the balrog
i was wandering if he had met the balrog before he fought him in Moria
i kind of thought he had met him before
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 5:07 PM
Well, he knew of them.
Aranuir - Last Sunday at 5:07 PM
yeah but I was thinking that they had crossed paths maybe prior to Moria
Varda - Last Sunday at 5:07 PM
He certainly didn't want to go through Moria, knowing the Balrog was there.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 5:08 PM
He might have been in Moria before, then.
Varda - Last Sunday at 5:08 PM
Yes, he had been.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 5:08 PM
Wondering where the dwarves had gone.
Aranuir - Last Sunday at 5:08 PM
its as if he knew; it was his destiny to fight him
Varda - Last Sunday at 5:08 PM
and trying to avoid, if he could.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 5:09 PM
Knowing in some way it would kill him, perhaps?
Varda - Last Sunday at 5:09 PM
Their first fight was in shutting the door.
Aranuir - Last Sunday at 5:10 PM
well i mean that he knew eventually one day that he'd have to fight him
Varda - Last Sunday at 5:10 PM
"Did you meet the beater of the drums?"
"I do not know," answered Gandalf. "But I found myself suddenly faced by something that I have not met before..."
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 5:11 PM
That seems conclusive.
Varda - Last Sunday at 5:12 PM
There's a longish passage of Gandalf telling the tale, you might want to read rather than have quoted at you.
"The Bridge of Khazad-dum"
The balrog was a spell-caster too, not just strong.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 5:13 PM
Did that Balrog actually come through the door Gandalf had been holding back?
How big are the things anyway?
Varda - Last Sunday at 5:14 PM
Trying to figure that out. Says it had an iron ring on the door.
Aranuir - Last Sunday at 5:15 PM
interesting
Varda - Last Sunday at 5:15 PM
"eastern door...grinding upon its hinges: it had great iron rings on either side, but could not be fastened."
"I have met my match and have nearly been destroyed"
So it was very brave of Gandalf to stop at the bridge and face the thing, halting it so the others could escape. Just drop it down an enormous hole.
He almost got away with it, but the whip slung up from below and caught him, pulling him down.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 5:18 PM
Well, if it didn't have wings...
Varda - Last Sunday at 5:18 PM
Bad move, Balrog.
heh, Phar
Aranuir - Last Sunday at 5:18 PM
wait is he telling of a previous meeting?
Varda - Last Sunday at 5:18 PM
Gandalf is telling what happened at the door.
Aranuir - Last Sunday at 5:19 PM
ah ok
Varda - Last Sunday at 5:19 PM
So, yes, previous to the bridge, very recently.
But he already knew what a balrog was. Legolas knew too, that it was a Maia of Morgoth.
And it had not been lessened before coming to Middle-earth, the way Olorin / Gandalf had been.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 5:20 PM
Flame of Udun.
Varda - Last Sunday at 5:20 PM
So Gandalf knew he was at a major disadvantage against a fellow Maia.
Right.
And Gandalf had power over fire, and took it from the Balrog.
But it was still shadow.
and some physical component, to be able to handle a whip.
to Phar   "and its wings were spread from wall to wall"
To be fair, should bee in context.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 5:23 PM
hehe
Varda - Last Sunday at 5:23 PM
*be
"You cannot pass," he said. The orcs stood still, and a dead silence fell.
"I am a servant of the Secret Fire, wielder of the flame of Anor. You cannot pass.
"The dark fire will not avail you, flame of Udun. Go back to the Shadow! You cannot pass."
The Balrog made no answer.
The fire in it seemed to die, but the darkness grew.
Aranuir - Last Sunday at 5:25 PM
cool
Varda - Last Sunday at 5:26 PM
It stepped forward slowly on to the bridge, and suddenly
it drew itself up to a great height and its wings were spread from wall to wall;
but still Gandalf could be seen, glimmering in the gloom...
.endquote
...
Lots more, enjoy reading it!
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 5:27 PM
glimmering in the gloom, I like that
Varda - Last Sunday at 5:27 PM
Me too. : )
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 5:27 PM

Varda - Last Sunday at 5:28 PM
That didn't end well, heh. Tried.
Maybe slower...

Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 6:01 PM
Blizzard gaming!
Hearthstone: starting to make the trek to level 54. Most have barely gotten started, but one is already halfway since I had a quest to complete and just couldn't get that last win. Im sure the rest'll catch up!
*I'm
This week's brawl was a portal brawl but with an interesting twist; at the start of the game you get to choose one of 3 portal types based on the Starcraft races - yes, once again based on the anniversary
Fill your deck with those portals, which summon random minions themed around swarming, technology or mind.
Depending on what portal you choose.
ArienV - Last Sunday at 6:05 PM
sounds cool
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 6:05 PM
had good fun with the swarm cards
Starting tomorrow, I think, there'll be a new event where every quest you complete gives you a pack from a random expansion, for celebrating the new Hearthstone year. They can be from any of the 3 expansions from last year as well as the new upcoming one.
Heroes of the Storm: 4 new levels!  264 now. And they're from my currently active heroes as well, since I was able to choose heroes I already knew for both brawl matches. This week's brawl is a single-lane match on the Overwatch-themed map terrain, with conveyor belts and no bonus objectives. Always good for intense matches, as well as aoe-favoring builds.
ArienV - Last Sunday at 6:15 PM
sadly i have to go to bed :? yawns
Namarie for now
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 6:15 PM
Diablo 3: Season chapter 4 complete! As I thought, I was able to complete it at the start of the week, on monday. Since then I've decided to push a bit further still. Probably won't get to chapter 8 for the stash space reward, but I do want to see how far I can get without it getting really annoying or dangerous. Moved the difficulty up to Torment VI, where I'm still doing enough damage to crush that difficulty's mobs, though feeling a bit more squishy; a few new legendaries including a really important belt for this spec have improved that a bit. So I'm ready to move up more.
Namarie!
So yes, still having fun there even after getting the unique pet reward for this season - and it's a nice one! - which is more than I've done for quite a few past seasons. And as long as I'm continuing to have fun with this build, I'll probably go for a bit more.
WoW: Nothing new from what little is left of the old Cataclysm raids for pets and stuff we want, but at least we're done in 45 minutes now. Current raid still a bit problematic, but we did get heroic Argus down for the second time tonight, allowing me to upgrade my tank trinket to the maximum. Now I'm just hoping for my dps trinket to drop to so I can start upgrading that one. At least the upgrade items will continue to stack even without the trinket.
On monday we managed to complete a mythic +15 dungeon on time, with some effort  That unlocked a new achievement and a new appearance for our artifacts. This is one of the appearances that can no longer be gotten when the next expansion comes, so we're all glad it's done. I do like the 120 weekly Essences you get just for getting any mythic+ dungeon done, though, so even though we don't need it for achievements anymore I think I'll keep trying to find low-level ones, preferably +2, once a week. But the hardest part of that is over!
And as weekly gear-reward for doing a 15+ I got a really nice tanking necklace at 960 ilevel which I'll probably not replace for the rest of the expansion.
Those Wakening Essences, though, are used to purchase more random legendaries for your class, and I still need 8 or so, of which 3 are very helpful in the restoration druid class challenge from the mage tower, which I still want to do before the next expansion. So I decided to step up the gathering of those Essences.
On top of those 120 a week for doing a mythic+, you also get essences for the Antorus raidbosses you kill, for the daily Emissary quests, and the first random heroic dungeon of the day. So I started doing all the emissaries again, even the ones I don't need reputation or paragon rewards from, as well as a random instance on top of the daily Vault of the Wardens I still need my pattern from.
I'll be aiming to get enough essences for a new legendary every 2 weeks if not less, which on top of the regular legendary droprates should complete the druid collection somewhere late in May.
Oh, and there's also essences for rated battlegrounds and arena but I'm not going to bother with those just for the essences; one item every 2 weeks will have to do.
But speaking of, this week's weekly quest is arena skirmish wins, which is unrated and can be easily pugged. Which is good. I immediately ended up in a team with 2 other druids and we went on to get 8 out of the 10 required wins together before falling apart, and those last 2 weren't too slow to follow. So that was fortunately done quite quickly
And finally... I got a bit bored of the fishing, so I decided to alternate it a bit with farming queststarters for the Field Medic achievement, requiring the completion of 18 different First Aid quests, which also boost your First Aid skill. That is going away with the next expansion, so if you want the achievements, it has to be done now. Luckily I found there are groups up in every zone to speed-kill a lot of mobs in the best places to farm the items, and have already gotten 3 last night. On top of the 2 I had already gotten in the past just by questing normally, that brings me to 5 out of 18.
That is my gaming report for the week; but I will add a few bits for WoW outside the game proper.

My books have still not arrived: They keep getting postponed, and rather than 15th of march they are currently spread out over the start of April for publication. And the new novel preceding the next expansion is now apparently available for pre-order, expected to come out in June. But the most anticipated book, Chronicle Volume III, is expected in 2 days, and that one is big enough and wanted enough that I can't imagine it randomly being postponed like the republications of the older novels I'm after. So I hope that'll indeed come on tuesday
And the second bit is a particularly nice mount they uncovered from the next expansion, as can be seen on http://www.wowhead.com/news=282929  Give me that one and the bee-mount they'd'already found previously and I'll be happy for the entire expansion
