Anyway, I'll end my gaming news by saying that if anyone in the US
region playing WoW wants a character in the Valar Guild community,
and they can get onto WoW right now to do so, I'll see if I can
throw out a couple of invites. I can also throw invites out for the
Valar Guild Group if that's appealing. Just let me know which one
you want.

Bilbo did use the ring in the Halls of Thranduil, but this was not
the first time the dwarves heard of it.
He was much more secretive in the movies.

Then they should have remembered what happened with, yes, you had it
right that it could be a clue, after the spider rescue.
Bilbo lured the spiders away from the dwarves and cut them loose,
but they were still woozy. They fought off a lot of spiders and
killed many, but were tiring too much for the next attack.
Reluctantly, Bilbo worked with the dwarves on his plan so that he
attacked invisibly.
Afterwards they wanted to hear the whole story in detail, before
being distracted by hunger.
Enjoy reading the whole thing in the Hobbit "Flies and Spiders"!

A bit much to type it all, passing the "fair use" rules, and a treat

The movies had somewhat clouded my memory of the event, so it was
interesting for that as well.

about 50 nerds (and two game developers from CCP) gathered in
the woods of upstate new york for 3 days
was a little rainy thursday and friday, but we fought through it

then there were 2x4s as crossbars
on the 2x4s were tubes of pvc with paint on them
set up like a foosball table, with a yellow goalie, then 2 green
forwards, then 3 yellow midfielders, then 3 green midfielders, then
2 yellow forwards, then the green goalie
thing is, they were close enough that say, the yellow forwards could
reach backwards with their feet into the green midfielder line
and also we were kicking the ball pretrty hard
it went out of the box about as often as it stayed in :p
one kid got it right in the face, and another one got a real solid
kick to his shin when fighting for the ball

Hearthstone:
Second class to 55, the warrior, getting me the first golden
chillwind yeti. One of the more overall useful basic minions, with
solid stats and no side abilities, I've got it in quite a few of my
decks.
Tavern brawl was decks with random spells from all classes, with
each spell cast summoning a random minion of the same mana cost.
Random random random, always fun :smiley:
Got a new legendary too, quite lucky lately! Arugal, a mage
legendary, who in Warcraft was the original boss in Shadowfang Keep,
who first summoned Worgen to the Gilneas area.
Heroes of the Storm:
Level 293 now. Including getting Kael'thas to level 3 through the
brawl, which was another single-lane, this time in the lost cavern.
Also got a legendary mount from a loot chest, a rather odd-looking
horse.
WoW:
Nothing from the old pet/mount raids, though we did discover that
the same pet can now drop twice in one kill, through legacy loot.
Bit odd, but probably related to the loot now being neatly divided
between all participants automatically.
Been planning out my to-do list for Battle for Azeroth a bit,
looking at all the rewards for things, and the way the war campaign
will be staggered throughout your levels. Many toys and some pets
will be faction-specific though, which means it's more and more
important as a collector to level my horde moonkin at some point.
Much collection work will need to be done through the island
expeditions though. It doesn't seem quite like my favorite activity,
but there's a lot of stuff to get!
War of the Thorns concluded this week, leading to the burning of a
tree, and a new warbringer cinematic as well as the new
Saurfang-related one. It also unlocked a new world quest which seems
to cycle every 3 days instead of 1. I had some problem finishing the
questline at first because of a phasing issue that kept the Greymane
scene from playing out, and which gave some troubles with the quest
itself. But after delaying it for a day, the phasing seemed right
again, though I did not see such a thing in a hotfix.
And I finished up the event by getting the new hippogryph mount! The
Undercity bat was automatically added as well, as you don't need to
do the event on both factions to get both mounts. They are still
only useable by their specific faction, though.
I also got the new Darkmoon Faire toy for 50 tickets. Still had 40,
and did a pet battle quest for the last 10. A popcorn bag which you
can eat from once a minute :smiley: Now I'm out of ticket reserves,
but I don't really mind that; can always grind new ones for any new
items, even if it takes me more than one monthly rotation for an
item.
Got one more pet batlte done for the Argus pet achievement, leaving
jst one, Watcher, to get. Just waiting for that to pop up!
Speaking of pet battles, the weekly quest was doing 5 pvp pet
battles, which I used to continue the achievements for winning pvp
pet battles with specific families. Did my first 5 with 3 aquatic
pets, which is really quite challenging, and mostly relies on
outhealing the enemy while doing damage with Surge when you don't
need to refresh your buffs. Unless there are pets out there that
might be more efficient :wink:
Still doing instances and raids for the wardrobe appearances. Got a
few new items, including a druid staff from a Mount Hyjal boss which
was rather popular at the time, so I'm glad to have it :smiley:
And that's my report! Next week will start the battle for the
Undercity, but as I'm still waiting for my CE, I won't be able to do
it yet :wink: That's fine though. Will still give me time for all my
daily/weekly stuff.
Will do all that in BfA. Though with all the new seasons and stuff
starting september 4, it'd be nice if I could get to level 120
before then. We'll see!
