Hope all is going well for you!
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:00 PM
Yep, got back from a few days' vacation earlier today, so still a bit in catch-up mode.
VardaYesterday at 4:00 PM
Welcome home! Hope it was a great vacation. : )
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:01 PM
Yep, nice place next to a small lake, got to swim a few times despite the weather not always being sunny.
After pretty much the hottest and dryest (driest?) summer we've had in statistical history, though, a bit of cloud and even some rain was appreciated.

Does anyone have any more gaming news? From their games, Eve Online, DOTA 2 and others?
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:42 PM
Hmm, I think I'll see how Guild Wars (1) is doing...

ElrondYesterday at 4:43 PM
Hit 120 on Wed in WOW on my warlock. Been just working thru the war campaign. Finished the "Jaina Storyline" ending in the mythic dungeon Siege or Boralas. Overall I like the expansion, dungeons have alot of trash though that are a bit worse than some of the bosses.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:44 PM
Need to use crowd control perhaps?
ElrondYesterday at 4:46 PM
We had two rogues sapping on one mythic and my fear.. lol

Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:47 PM
Well well. Guild Wars exists, my character exists, even my guild exists still, even though the last-logins are on the scale of months.
For me it's been 4, apparently.
Even still some other people running around as well. Ah well, that's my GW catch-up for this time

Combining the new with the old.
Looks quite nice.
VardaYesterday at 4:55 PM
Aye.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:56 PM
So what stopped you?
VardaYesterday at 4:56 PM
$11 for stuff I already knew and had in much greater depth on my shelves. And I already have the movies for the pics.
Cheap.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:57 PM
Fair enough.
VardaYesterday at 4:57 PM
Carried it to the checkout counter and almost bought it.
My shelves are bulging already. reaches out and grabs Newsweek
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:57 PM
I imagine there is some repetition involved when you already have this kind of stuff.
Heh.
VardaYesterday at 4:57 PM
True, Phar.
Recognized where they were getting the info, pics, etc. But...
Ok.

VardaYesterday at 5:00 PM
Combinations. Did JRRT make some interesting combos? That tends to be where a lot of the great creativity is found. It's just a thought that came in my head when Phar made the comment about combining the old and news.
er "new".
It's easy for us to miss, because they don't seem strange to us with our familiarity.
But at the time, he did some amazing things.
For instance, elves were mostly depicted as tiny creatures, maybe with wings.
He brought in the old ideas of earlier elves.
It felt new again.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:02 PM
Lord of the Rings itself was a combo of the small-scale, personal narrative of the Hobbit with the grand history elements of the Silmarillion.
VardaYesterday at 5:02 PM
Very good.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:03 PM
The Fellowship was a nice combo as well, some of the older races and bloodlines combined with these 4 young mortal hobbits who are seeing the world for the first time.
VardaYesterday at 5:04 PM
True. The Fellowship was intended to bring representatives of all the races of the free peoples together to combat Sauron.
A bit heavy on the hobbit representation, but they're halfings so it needed two of each to make one, right?
AnarionYesterday at 5:04 PM
;)
VardaYesterday at 5:04 PM

Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:05 PM
hehe
AnarionYesterday at 5:06 PM
The ringbearer/king led storylines are a combination of two familiar types of journeys made to comprise a single story
VardaYesterday at 5:06 PM
The elf was an odd representative, from the only group not dependent on a Ring.
Nice, Anarion
Gloin came to the Council of Elrond, but it was his son Gimli that he brought along who went on the Fellowship.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:07 PM
Paving the way for the new generation.
VardaYesterday at 5:08 PM
Faramir was called in dreams but his older brother was the one that showed up.
A gardener among all the blue bloods, Samwise, turns out to be major to the story.

We have reached the hour. If anyone has more examples they'd like to add in the After-meeting, they would be appreciated.

Right, personal gaming report, as much as there is of it.
top

Let's start with flashgaming!
http://www.freewebarcade.com/game/rift-knight/ is a platformer where you play a knight going through levels, taking out the rifts in each level. Every time you take out a rift it switches the level between 2 states, changing some enemies and making certain barriers appear. But the order doesn't really matter, I think there's always a way to get them in either state, though one can be harder than the other in places.
You've got various spawnspots, infinite lives, dash attacks, wall-clinging and triple jumping, so you're pretty much the most powerful creature in every level, but getting to all the rifts in each level can still be interesting.

http://www.freewebarcade.com/game/snake-the-platformer/ is the second game, and is pretty much what the title says. A combination of Snake, and platforming. Hop across platforms to eat your target pixels, while not trapping yourself within your own tail.
You can also use your tail to lift yourself up, which is nice. Oh, and avoid the spikes!

Now, for the third one, I didn't see any other new games that seem to work... so I'll go with an oldy, for which the badge came up this week.
https://www.kongregate.com/games/jarofed/symbiosis is a defense game, where you use plants to stop an invasion of crystals. Gather a limited amount of experience from levels and challenges to get permanent upgrades (there is enough xp to get all of them, but the challenges for them might be tough). In the levels, build plants, switch them between states (attack, defense or growth) and use them to support each other as well. Have fun!

Blizzard gaming:
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 6:01 PM
Starcraft II:
Only did a few matches, still on the second tier of the first chapter of the war chest.
Hearthstone:
Nothing new here either! Couple of matches, no new leveled classes yet. Brawl is a sort of arena-like system whereby you can create your own standard decks. I don't like arena, so didn't bother.
Maybe next week I'll finish getting them to 55
Heroes of the Storm:
Still level 295. Brawl is the Industrial District single-lane. Haven't done it yet, will poke it tomorrow, but if it is the map I think it is... well, I've seen worse single-lane brawls, with the conveyor belts this is actually kinda fun.
I did get some new mounts there though, for the BfA CE.
Speaking of!
WoW:
Truly can't find any weekly quests, so that's still a while away.
Wasn't around for old raids this week, but I'll poke the one I need tomorrow.
Much poking tomorrow...
Darkshore quests are over now, I've done em all every day, which is nice... I didn't get any upgrades except the bracers I mentioned last week, which is meh. But that just says a lot about how good my gear was already, I suppose.
Am still poking Broken Isles sometimes, since I still have a few emissary or paragon rewards to go there. Actually had to push 2 emissaries on the day before I left because they were the ones I needed. Still no luck on the rewards though.
But there's also the new stuff, because the new expansion launched!
Mine actually arrived a bit late. Should've arrived tuesday morning, but the mail-tracking wasn't updating and I was a bit worried about how late it was going to be. But it arrived in the evening of that day, so it was fine after all.
The Collectors Edition came with a big metal "coin" they call it, with alliance and horde symbol on them, and a little stand for it to construct from 3 parts. Display the side you're on!
Also a key for a digital soundtrack rather than physical cd, which is a shame, but I do intend to put it on disc, for backup if nothing else.
And there's the 2 short stories in the new book with unique art, made by different artists, displaying scenes which usually take place in the opposite page. It's quite nice.
And sure enough, goodies for the other games as well, such as a card back, heroes of the storm mount, starcraft II portraits and pet/mount within WoW itself
Oh, and the soundtrack is quite nice, too. Many of the zone-specific themes have parts represented in the main theme, and there's things like the Darkshore campaign music and the BfA intro cinematic as well.
Some really nice tracks and pieces of tracks in there!
I've started reading the book while on vacation, but only got to about 18-20 pages or so. Always got less free time on vacation than you think!
And then the expansion itself!
I wanted to start off with unlocking the Void Elf and Lightforged Allied Races, but apparently, after BfA launched, the quests to acquire them became locked behind a few early questlines in BfA itself.
Bit odd, but I guess it's one way to push people into acquiring some basic BfA stuff before focusing on something as frivolous as allied races like I wanted to do
So, sure enough, I visited Magni in Silithus, got my Azerite necklace, and then headed to Kul Tiras for the introduction questline.
After getting Jaina captured (and disappeared), escaping prison myself, and seeing a bit of Boralus for the opening questline, I decided to look around that part of the city for a bit, and bought all the new tiers for my professions: skinning, leatherworking, fishing, cooking and archaeology, as well as setting my hearthstone there and going through the short quest setting up the Scrapper so I can get rid of questrewards I don't need.
After setting up the zone board for Kul Tiras and getting my War Campaign intro quest, however, I went back to my original goal.
Went through the Allied Race introductions, which are kinda fun (T'paartos!), so it's a shame they're apparently once per account only. Who knows, maybe Blizzard will one day make them revisitable again.
And then I made my new alts! A void elf huntress called Calnystra and a Lightforged priest called Calluminar.
Got their introduction quests done and settled them in Stormwind, while also collecting each of the races' mounts.
So those are the new additions to my alt-team
Aaaand unfortunately then I ran out of time, went on vacation, and spent most of tonight catching up on some stuff.
As a result, my main is still 110. But at least he's well rested, and I'll send him into Drustvar this week!
As well as starting the war campaign; if I get far enough there to make an outpost, I'll probably start in Zuldazar.
And that's my report for this week!
Ah, just unlocked second tier in the war chest
