Web:
One of our Pathfinder tabletop friends, a wonderful young lady and a tank for whom I cleric, has painted models that you may enjoy:
Here's her new page:
http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/art/gallery/RobRoysGirl/caveRobRoysGirl.htm
She calls herself Rob Roy's Girl due to her ancestry, known that way in several places online and kept the name here for that reason.
Click the images for the full photos.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:18 PM
Looks nice!
Varda - Yesterday at 4:18 PM
The background is actual stone, used in gaming, provided by Sauron-(Valar)
ArienV - Yesterday at 4:20 PM
love those dagons
Varda - Yesterday at 4:20 PM
I'll have to ask about the humanoid models, that may have been done by her husband who is also a member of our Pathfinder group as well as DM'ing for a game most of the same people do but at his house. Friends for years, lots of gaming.
Eonwe Valar - Yesterday at 4:20 PM
Must be fun to get the diagonal lining up of those images, hehe :}
The dragons do look good :}
Varda - Yesterday at 4:22 PM
Sorry, this computer keeps throwing messages at me about a drive directory name being invalid, stops typing.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:22 PM
sounds annoying
Varda - Yesterday at 4:23 PM
Too true. And hard to work here because of it.
ArienV - Yesterday at 4:26 PM
Rob Roys Girl strongly suggest5s she is a McGregor
Varda - Yesterday at 4:26 PM
That would be correct. She calls herself that in his honor.
ArienV - Yesterday at 4:27 PM
Well respected gentleman to me  and many Scots
Scottish history is one of my side hobbies

Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:27 PM
I've noticed that genealogical history seems very important to Americans as well as Scots.
Doesn't seem to be as much of a big deal over here.
Varda - Yesterday at 4:28 PM
Entertaining more than important, really.
Eonwe Valar - Yesterday at 4:28 PM
Important to know one's history. Geneology is an extension of that I'd say. Brings history to a more personal level.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:29 PM
My knowledge doesn't go back more than 2-3 generations.
Varda - Yesterday at 4:29 PM
It does help bring history a bit more to life, more personal.
ArienV - Yesterday at 4:29 PM
Papa  Tolkien liked that as well and used it in his books :
Varda - Yesterday at 4:29 PM
Aye, nice geneology tables in JRRT's books.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:30 PM
Oh, I know, I like the line of kings etc. But I don't really see how knowing who my great-grandparents were is going to be useful in any way.
Varda - Yesterday at 4:30 PM
The Silmarillion is a list of Aragorn's ancestors, pretty much.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:30 PM
Heh, that's true.
Varda - Yesterday at 4:30 PM
For us, the geneology is more useful for health reasons. So and so had that genetic disease, so get ready for it.
Eonwe Valar - Yesterday at 4:31 PM
Who they were? Probably not very bid, agreed. It might be nice to know how they were connected and affected by the events going on in their lives, however.
*very bid
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:31 PM
But how many generations do you really need for that, Varda?
Varda - Yesterday at 4:31 PM
Might help keep us from inbreeding.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:31 PM
Heh, I suppose there is that.
Eonwe Valar - Yesterday at 4:31 PM
Reminds me of a youtube video I saw the other day titled something like "When kids realized their grandparents were cooler than them" lol.
Varda - Yesterday at 4:32 PM
hehe
Give us something to live up to?
Eonwe Valar - Yesterday at 4:33 PM
Showed a bunch of what was purported to be old photos. One of them was the purported grandmother of the person who sent it in, with Albert Einstein. If that's a true story, I'd say that's something to pass down and know , personally.
Aranuir(Aarfon) - Yesterday at 4:33 PM
im here....tajine is simmering
Varda - Yesterday at 4:34 PM
I looked more closely at the pics. That ship was made by her husband - I've seen it, and so were the humans aboard.
Aiya Aranuir
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:34 PM
Aiya!
ArienV - Yesterday at 4:34 PM
in a different literatury universe  some folks overdid it a bit and resorted to inbreeding for the sake of heredetary powers ... but went overboard the wrongside .. caused a lot of mental instability and  contributed to the decline of their society .. just  as a side not in what way genealogies might be used or abused
Eonwe Valar - Yesterday at 4:34 PM
Ship?
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:35 PM
sounds like Game of :Thrones, Arien
ArienV - Yesterday at 4:35 PM
Aiya
Varda - Yesterday at 4:35 PM
Click on the thumbnails and you can see the ship in the background.
Model, a bear to make.
ArienV - Yesterday at 4:35 PM
its in fact Darkover Cala .. created by Marion Zimmer Bradley
Eonwe Valar - Yesterday at 4:35 PM
Ah ok, can barely make it out.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:36 PM
Well, it's a similar situation in GoT.
ArienV - Yesterday at 4:36 PM
it is in a way yesw
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:36 PM
Both for the Targaryens and the Lannisters.
Varda - Yesterday at 4:39 PM
Aye, any tool can be used correctly or abused.
ArienV - Yesterday at 4:39 PM
but you can imagine rthat for that kind of breeding  genealogies would studied very carefully
doesnt help of course that many of the original settlerswere of Scotttish stock :)]
or maybe it does hehe
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:40 PM
Well, generally the families that would suit that kinda thing, were already the ones that kept careful track of their geneology.
genealogy?
one of the two
ArienV - Yesterday at 4:41 PM
genealogy
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:41 PM
as in, high nobles etc
ArienV - Yesterday at 4:41 PM
aye
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:42 PM
Just looking at wikipedia there appears to be a list of 56 people and their exact place in the line to the British throne, but I'm betting the lost goes on for a quite a bit longer.
ArienV - Yesterday at 4:43 PM
I appoogize for the distraction
or diversion rather
Varda - Yesterday at 4:43 PM
It was a nifty discussion, thank you.

Tolkien:
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:57 PM
Enjoy your dinner!
Varda - Yesterday at 4:57 PM
Perhaps comments are in order on how the Silmarillion is telling us Aragorn's geneology.  ^^
Thank you. And most especially, we'll enjoy getting together with family.
Namarie, good folk!
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:58 PM
Namarie!
Aranuir(Aarfon) - Yesterday at 4:59 PM
Namarie!
Eonwe Valar - Yesterday at 4:59 PM
I gavel take over for a bit, but not long. I'm about to be going too in about 30 minutes.
Varda - Yesterday at 5:00 PM
That's long enough for some Tolkien chat.

Eonwe Valar - Yesterday at 5:00 PM
Er, can take over for a bit rather.
So, let's start with the topic Varda suggested.
It does give us  a pretty distance look at Aragorn's geneology. All the way back to Beren's grandfather and Melian/Thingol.
*distant
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 5:02 PM
Well, for the Silmarillion, we can look at Elros, Aragorn's most recent ancestor from the First Age.
His ancestors are central to the story for quite a few generations
Eonwe Valar - Yesterday at 5:03 PM
Indeed :}
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 5:05 PM
So what are the starting points? Melian, Thingol, Bëor, Finwë...
Hador, too.
Who am I missing?
Eonwe Valar - Yesterday at 5:07 PM
I think that may be as far back as we can go.
We don't know if Thingol had any parents or if he was generation 0.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 5:08 PM
Back at Cuivienen?
Eonwe Valar - Yesterday at 5:08 PM
Yeah.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 5:09 PM
I recall there being a story of the first Elves waking up, finding their kin, and claiming their tribes.
Eonwe Valar - Yesterday at 5:09 PM
Aye, that's in the Histories.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 5:09 PM
Not sure if they were named. Then again, doesn't Thingol have a brother?
That sure implies parents
Eonwe Valar - Yesterday at 5:09 PM
Elwë Thingol, brother of Olwë.
You know, good point.
For the Ainur it doesn't, but Ainur are a special case.
ArienV - Yesterday at 5:11 PM
Phari ? you forgot Indis
Finwes wife
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 5:11 PM
Ah yes
Eonwe Valar - Yesterday at 5:11 PM
True, that would take it back to Ingwë on that end.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 5:12 PM
Wasn't Indis his sister rather than daughter?
Eonwe Valar - Yesterday at 5:12 PM
If she is, that means I need to reread the Sil, heh.
"Close kin"
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 5:13 PM
Ah.
Do we have any ancestors for Nimloth?
ArienV - Yesterday at 5:14 PM
yes .. close kin
Eonwe Valar - Yesterday at 5:16 PM
Don't think we do.
ArienV - Yesterday at 5:16 PM
Seedling of jGalathilion and that a fruit of Telperion of many names
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 5:17 PM
I meant as in Dior's wife, not the tree
Eonwe Valar - Yesterday at 5:17 PM
"kinswoman of Celeborn" is what we know of Nimloth's geneology.
ArienV - Yesterday at 5:17 PM
oops facepalms
Eonwe Valar - Yesterday at 5:18 PM
:}
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 5:19 PM
googling quickly, there appears to be some ancestry sourcing back to Unfinished Tales, placing her as the niece of Celeborn, with Celeborn and her father being grandsons of Thingol's brother. I'll check to confirm.
There is something here, referring to a version that does not appear to be present in the book of itself, but with summarized confirmation of the above and apparently being referred to by the appendix in LotR.
Celebrian - Yesterday at 5:26 PM
Oops I missed the meeting. Sorry, outside walking and forgot the time.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 5:26 PM
Aiya
ArienV - Yesterday at 5:26 PM
Aiya Celebrian
Celebrian - Yesterday at 5:26 PM
Aiya.
Eonwe Valar - Yesterday at 5:27 PM
Heya Celebrian :} You made it in time for Tolkien: a discussion on the geneology of Aragorn :}
Celebrian - Yesterday at 5:28 PM
Yay.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 5:28 PM
For those who want to check out that bit themselves, look for Galathil in the UT index.
Seems a bit much or confusing to quote in full.
ArienV - Yesterday at 5:29 PM
father is named as Galathil according UT Part two: The second , Age , jCahapter IV
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 5:30 PM
Interesting how their names are repeated in the trees.
ArienV - Yesterday at 5:30 PM
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 5:32 PM
I guess the Numenoreans appreciated their ancestors as well
Eonwe Valar - Yesterday at 5:32 PM
Ok ladies and gentlemen, I must be off. Since there is still discussion going, will you be able to take it from here, Arien?
ArienV - Yesterday at 5:33 PM
Are you interested in continuing the discussion people?
I will Eonwe if folks are interested
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 5:33 PM
Not sure how much there is left to discuss, but go ahead.
Celebrian - Yesterday at 5:34 PM
Im mobile right now so I will have to go too.
Eonwe Valar - Yesterday at 5:34 PM
Thanks.
If not, feel free to bang the gavel and move into Aftermeeting :}
ArienV - Yesterday at 5:35 PM
shall do so Eonwe  dont worry and have a; good shift
Namarie for now
Eonwe Valar - Yesterday at 5:35 PM
Take care all, good night, sleep well, and have fun :}
and thanks :}
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 5:36 PM
namarie!
ArienV - Yesterday at 5:38 PM
we could discuss other family trees if desired of important fellowship members
but .. time Is getting on slightly but half an hour official time is still left
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 5:38 PM
Heh.
Well, the hobbits are all a confused but well-documented mess, Boromir's from the line of stewards, Legolas is descended from a Sindarin family, and Gimli... I think is part of Durin's house?
Want to go info further details?
ArienV - Yesterday at 5:41 PM
feel free
But the family trees are well documented in the books
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 5:42 PM
That they are. I'll go grab my copy of RotK, I guess!
ArienV - Yesterday at 5:46 PM
Legolas was the son of Thandruil who was the son of Oropher who was slain the battle of the last alliance
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 5:46 PM
Yes, who came from Doriath, I believe.
ArienV - Yesterday at 5:47 PM
That is correct
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 5:47 PM
Gimli was the son of Glóin, who was the son of Gróin (there are only so many letter combinations available, I guess) who was the son of Farin, the son of Borin, brother to Dain the first, indeed tying back into the line of Durin.
ArienV - Yesterday at 5:50 PM
Very  good
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 5:51 PM
Boromir was the son of Denethor II, of the line of Ruling Stewards going back all the way to Pelendur; if I'm reading this right they can trace their ancestry all the way back to the house of... Hurin? I thought Hurin had no surviving descendants.
Oh, different Hurin who was also a steward.
Who was, however, of noble Numenorean descent. So there's that.
ArienV - Yesterday at 5:54 PM
Frodo Bagginss .. Son of Drogo Baggins and  Priscilla Brandybuck .. who was a sister to Saradoc Brandybuck, who is Meriadocs father
so Frodo is a second cousin to Merry and .. apparently a second cousin once removed to Fredegar Bolger
and  Frodo is also related to Peregrin Took through his  paternal grandmother
pardon me .. grandfather Hildegrim Took
oooh too complicated  you can read it up here
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frodo_Baggins
Frodo Baggins
Frodo Baggins is a fictional character in J. R. R. Tolkien's legendarium, and the main protagonist of The Lord of the Rings. Frodo is a hobbit of the Shire who inherits the One Ring from his cousin (referred to as his uncle) Bilbo Baggins and und...
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 5:58 PM
I feel sorry for Sam, not being as connected
ArienV - Yesterday at 6:04 PM
hmm who else do we have to make the company complete
Aragorn tick(
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 6:04 PM
Gandalf, but... well.. Ainur.
ArienV - Yesterday at 6:04 PM
Boromir ktick
Gimli  tick , Merry and Pippin covered with Frodo
Merry was the heir to Bucklebury wasn't he ? the heir of his father?
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 6:06 PM
Yes.
well, Bucklebury... isn't that the place with the ferry?
ArienV - Yesterday at 6:06 PM
as was Pippin of the Took family .. his father was Paladin Took
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 6:06 PM
Brandy Hall, that's it.
And, well, Buckland as a whole.
ArienV - Yesterday at 6:06 PM
Brandy Hall yes thats the name
yes#
I don't  do names really .. as you should know
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 6:07 PM
Awkward, given the topic
ArienV - Yesterday at 6:09 PM
hehe
but I ve got you to keep me right
and since we have covered all members of the fellowship and look at the time ..
takes a twisted looking gavel that grows branches and roots in all directions , sets it a flame in a fire that doesn 't burn .. causes a  many flowered explosion, extinguishes the flame and hops back to the gavelstand

Aftermeeting!
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 6:13 PM
Yavanna snuck one in.
ArienV - Yesterday at 6:13 PM
yeah must have ~
For completion s sake as Ainur we only can name Eru as direct ancestor of Gandalf or Olorin as he was known originally
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 6:15 PM
Heh, yes. But Melian goes back there as well, then.
And, in fact, are Elves and Men not considered the Children of Eru?
Seems fitting to tie it all back to him
ArienV - Yesterday at 6:15 PM
indeed

Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 6:27 PM
okay, personal gaming report!

Let's find some flashgames for you this week.
Okay, here's a few.
http://www.onemorelevel.com/game/voodoo_lockdown is the first game! A platformer in an underground maze, make your way across the rooms by typing letter-shapes to fill the squares so you can cross them.
Voodoo Lockdown - OneMoreLevel.com

You can die as much as you like, but some attempts will be necessary, and you need to be creative with the alphabet :0
* :smiley:
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 7:01 PM
http://www.onemorelevel.com/game/diseveiled_3 is the second game (actually called Diseviled, but this particular website got it wrong) part of a series but I haven't played the first 2, a fantasy platformer with some upgrades where you have to retrieve a king's stolen castle.
Diseveiled 3 - OneMoreLevel.com

https://www.kongregate.com/games/Beranek/tales-of-nebezem-mind-trial is the third game! Ties into a larger game which I should really check out for the story, but in itself is a fun sequence of logical puzzles

Blizzard gaming:
Hearthstone: All classes around halfway to the next level now. Still making good use of the free packs from completing quest, which ends tomorrow I think.
new brawl inspired by the upcoming Witchwood expansion, Blessing of the Raven: each minion you play gets a random quality like poison, stealth, taunt etc. Had some fun with the paladin, who summons minions for his hero power
ArienV - Yesterday at 7:16 PM
Phari?  do you mind  talking to our lurkers? i t is just that i get a wee bit tired ..
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 7:17 PM
It's fine, I'm used to continuing my gaming report with or without feedback
Heroes of the Storm: Still level 266, no new levels got. Didn't even get a chest from the brawl, which was indeed a heroic version of last week's... and after about 10 failed tries I just gave up. Not really good enough for something like this
Had some fun attempts though, mostly with Valla.
ArienV - Yesterday at 7:19 PM
all right thanks for the report and grats too all  Namarie for now
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 7:19 PM
Namarie!
WoW:
Progress!
Got my last pet from the old Cataclysm raids, the twilight clutch-sister. Achievement complete, which got me a bonus pet, an amalgamation.
Got a new mount as well from Houndmaster Kerrax, one of the Argus rares. It's a Vile Fiend mount, which looks and moves rather silly. But still fun!
Now that we're doing well in heroic Antorus raid, we've moved to farming a few more of the bosses in the raid rather than just the last 2. With the extra essences from it, I don't really need to do a random heroic every day anymore, which frees up some time. I'll continue with the weekly 120 essences from the mythic keystone dungeons, though. 120 for one quick +2 dungeon in a week is a good deal.
This week I decided to complete an achievement and run a keystone version of Halls of Valor, which is the last one of the classic Legion dungeons I was missing for that. With that done, I can simply go for whatever's available at the easiest level from here on
Did not have much time for the fishing and the first aid, though.
The weekly for this week was timewalks, pandaria version. Had a good time, got some interesting new appearances including a fancy pink-ish cloak, and got more timewarped badges.
And perhaps the biggest thing: I completed the mage tower challenge with my balance spec  Got some useful heroic-antorus-level trinkets for both balance and restoration, and although restoration still requires a few missing legendaries, I figured I was as ready as I was ever going to be for the balance challenge. Sure, I could use a few more ilevel upgrades, but it would've been small upgrades over a longer time, so I figured I'd at least give it a go.
Had a few tries friday evening, getting to phase 2, and then set apart saturday afternoon for as many attempts as I had time for. I'm not good with balance spec, but was rather overgeared for it, and after about 2 hours of trying (and failing at the last few % a few times) I got it done!
Unlocking a new scythe model, for which I now have 3 variations available. Fourth one should come from the random battlegrounds next week.
I can now ignore my balance gear again for the rest of this expansion, and focus more on preparing my restoration gear. It's the last mage tower challenge I'm missing for the druid, and I'm kinda curious what it'll be like. I'm probably even worse at healing than at my moonkin spells, but I'm hoping that being overgeared will have even more of an effect there than it did for the balance challenge.
The scenario itself certainly seems fun enough.
And there are plans to try mythic raiding, so I might even get better gear before I force myself to tackle the challenge
Oh, speaking of better gear, finally got my second Argus trinket, the melee dps trinket for feral. Started upgrading it with the blessings I had already, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it improves my melee dps.
And finally, some WoW stuff out of game!
I ordered some stuff from my usual webshop, including the upcoming republishings of the comic, a comic volume that was available from another source, a poster collection, the upcoming pre-expansion novel, the updated visual guide... and the Collector's Edition of the next expansion! Some of the stuff arrived already, which means I now have volumes 1, 3 and 4 of the comic. Volume 2 should arrive in.. June, I think. The visual guide's here as well, and looking quite nice; much of the stuff has been updated in the Chronicles, but the visual guide goes further than the chronicles, up to the start of Legion. So still some nice info! And the art's good too, of course.
Oh, and I guess I didn't mention Diablo 3... did a few things there, got some rifts and greater rifts done, including the last few gems I needed for this spec. But frankly, I'm rather behind on stuff these days, shortage of time, more WoW stuff I wanna do... I think I need to let D3 go. Got my original goal of chapter 4 done anyway, with the unique rewards.
I'll pick it up again next season; I have had good fun this season with this set, though, and maybe I'll actually push on to chapter 8 in a future season after all
And that's my report for the week!
