From 31st of march for a week, /salute one of various SCII-themed pets in WoW for a feat of strength!
Don't need to have the pet, can salute someone else's.
That said, I have 2 of them myself, so if Arien wants the feat, she just has to meet me in-game.

Tolkien:
n(edited)  [Note: somehow did an unintentional delete edit. Introduced the topic: Who were people in Tolkien's works that "died" but returned to Middle-earth? I can think of two.]
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:28 PM
Glorfindel and Gandalf.
Varda - Yesterday at 4:29 PM
Three.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:29 PM
Glorfindel got reborn in Valinor as all Elves do (or are supposed to eventually) and sailed back, while Gandalf took a bit less long to get restored to life.
And did so in place.
Oh? Hmm.
Sauron?
ArienV - Yesterday at 4:30 PM
Luthien and Tuor
Varda - Yesterday at 4:30 PM
Not restricted to LotR.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:30 PM
Oh, right, B&L.
ArienV - Yesterday at 4:30 PM
Dor en .. something  The land of the living dead?
I cant quite remember
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:31 PM
I just keep in mind Ossiriand
It's usually Nan or Dor something.
Varda - Yesterday at 4:32 PM
Dor Firn-i-Guinar
Beren and Luthien
You got the idea right.
We don't actually know how Glorfindel returned that I'm aware of (you might know the reference) but sailing to return is probably right.
Gandalf was returned from Valinor and taken care of in Rivendell [Note: unintended error, no excuse.]
If I remember correctly
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:34 PM
Well I doubt Earendil (Aerendel? Something in between?) dropped him off
I thought Gandalf went to Lorien. [Note: correction, thanks.]
ArienV - Yesterday at 4:36 PM
Gandalf was picked  up by Gwaihir i think
and he bought him to Lothlorien#
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:36 PM
yeah, I referred to Glorfindel with the other one.
Varda - Yesterday at 4:39 PM
Beren died shortly after regaining the silmaril, but waited until Luthien came so they could say goodbye.
She entered the Halls of Mandos and her beauty was greater than that of the others there, her sorrow deeper than theirs. She knelt before Mandos and sang to him.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:40 PM
So many people trying to win over death with a game of chess, all they had to do is sing!
Varda - Yesterday at 4:41 PM
"The song of Luthien before Mandos was the song most fair that ever in words was woven, and the song most sorrowful that ever the world shall hear.
"Unchanged, imperishable, it is sung still in Valinor beyond the hearing of the world, and listening the Valar are grieved.
"For Luthien woved two themes of words, of the sorrow of the Eldar and the grief of Men,
of the Two Kindreds that were made by Iluvatar to dwell in Arda, the Kingdom of Earth amid the innumerable stars.
"And as she knelt before him her tears fell upon his feet like rain upon the stones;
and Mandos was moved to pity, who never before was so moved, nor has been since.'"THerefore he summoned Beren, and even as Luthien had spoken in the hour of his death they met again beyond the Western Sea.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:46 PM
"Sorry,  you just missed him, Beren already shipped out beyond the world. Would you like to leave a message?"
Varda - Yesterday at 4:46 PM
But Mandos had no power to withhold the spirits of Men that were dead within the confines of the world, after their time of waiting; nor could he change the fates of the Children of Iluvatar.
"He went therefore to Manwe, Lord of the Valar, who governed the world under the hand of Iluvatar;
and Manwe sought counsel in his inmost thought, where the will of Iluvatar was revealed.
"These were the choices that he gave to Luthien.
Because of her labours and her sorrow, she should be released from Mandos, and go to Valimar, ther to dwell until the world's end among the Valar, forgetting all griefs that her life had known.
Thither Beren could not come.
For it was not permitted to the Valar to withhold Death from him, which is the gift of Iluvatar to Men.
But the other choice was this:
that she might return to Middle-earth, and take with her Beren, there to dwell again, but without certitude of life or joy.
Then she would become mortal, and subject to a second death, even as he;
and ere long she would leave the world for ever, and her beauty only a memory in song.
"This doom she chose."
/endquote
And we know they lived happily and accomplished fine things.
And she went with Beren eventually to Eru.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:52 PM
And they got to fight some dwarves!
Varda - Yesterday at 4:52 PM
We also see her likeness again in Arwen.
Aye
That was the Tolkien Moment I wanted to give you tonight, a bit long.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:53 PM
That's fine, it's a good moment
Varda - Yesterday at 4:53 PM
Shall we call it a night? Almost an hour now.
It was from the Silmarillion "Of Beren and Luthien".
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:54 PM
If you wish. I've still got a few more things to do before I give my report, but that's fine.
Varda - Yesterday at 4:54 PM
The book is out, and I still hope to grab my copy!
Some of you have it already, I believe? Wondering if it was much changed.
Guess I'll find out.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 4:55 PM
Yes, I do believe it's upstairs on the Tolkien shelf  Leafed through it a bit, it's nice.
Varda - Yesterday at 4:55 PM
Good to hear.

There's a world in Rayman.. Origins or Legends, I always get those 2 mixed up, that's called Land of the Livid Dead.

Personal gaming report!

3 flashgames for ye.
https://www.kongregate.com/games/zyxstand/beam-ball is the first game; use the mouse to move a ball to clear out lasers of the same color. Multiple levels with different variations, see how long you can last!
Kongregate
Beam Ball
Deflect an onslaught of laser beams and advance through 40 increasingly challenging levels in this fast-paced action game.

http://www.freewebarcade.com/game/slightly-annoying-traffic/ is the second game, stop and restart cars and trucks on a busy intersection, try not to let anything get hit by another car, or even the passing train

http://www.onemorelevel.com/game/zombs_royale is the third game! Engage many other players in a simple-art top-view shooter with weapons and ammunition found on the battlefield. Limited emotes, many anonymous players though you can give yourself a name, and a shrinking of the battlefield after certain periods of time to force confrontation. You can login with facebook or possibly google as well and level up with benefits, though I think those are mostly cosmetic because even as a not logged in player I could do pretty decently with a few rounds of practice.
Zombs Royale - OneMoreLevel.com

Oh, and if/when you die you can spectate the match further, following whoever kills you and then them etc.

Blizzard gaming!
Hearthstone: Other classes also starting to push to 54. Making good use of the one-pack-per-quest event, though I think I'll not bother opening them until it's over. There's just so many of them!
This week's brawl is miniature: All minions played and summoned are 1/1 and cost 1 mana. If you can, try to use minions with battlecries, legendary abilities, buffs etc; as well as some low-damage clearing spells.
Got a daily quest to win 5 of them after I'd already won my first of the week, so that's 6 in total; went for 3 with a basic mage deck and 3 with a cheap hunter. Don't need expensive cards to make it through
Heroes of the Storm: Level 266 now! This week's brawl is a new one, a cooperative scenario where you team up in a party of 5 to defend a base from zerg waves and venture across the map to take out bosses on timers. Quite fun, with heroes you can manually select.
But if you die, you don't respawn, but  have to be resurrected at the spot by another player. This caused a bit of trouble when some people ventured out alone, or in one case where we didn't notice someone had died at the boss before we got a transport back to the base. Had to ride all the way back to pick him up!
Need to win 3 for the loot chest, rather than just playing 3, but it's easy enough and doesn't take long per match. If it's anything like the previous cooperative scenario, though, we'll get a much harder one next week that I'll probably not manage to complete
Diablo 3: Chapter 5 complete, and mastered the set dungeon for this season. Next chapter, however, includes Torment X difficulty for which I don't quite feel resilient enough yet. I'd like to get a specific ring and chestpiece, but can't seem to get them yet. I'll need to do some preparation work before I tackle the objectives.
WoW:
Raiding's a bit slow, with the Easter thing and all that. No new pets from old raids, and current heroic raid is struggling a bit this week because we didn't do so well on the latter bosses of the instance. But some of the group (including me) managed to complete the quest for the Aggramar shortcut, so now every time we go in for the final bosses we just need to kill the last 2, in the future.
I did get a new mount, though, from a rare on Argus; the Maddened Chaosrunner, a sort of fel talbuk with green glowing patches. A bit demonic, but seems to fit my green transmog rather well.
Varda - Yesterday at 7:37 PM
Aiya
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 7:37 PM
Aiyata
Varda - Yesterday at 7:38 PM
Hantal!
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 7:38 PM
Also, the Essences gathering is going well! Managed to get enough for another legendary, which turned out to be a resto trinket which I can use in that mage tower challenge I'm preparing for. Only 2 more specific ones to go for that, and about... 6 or 7 legendaries total for druid?
7, probably.
Still alternating the fishing with the first-aid-questing, when I have the time to spare. Making some progress with both, however, and managed to max out my First Aid skill to 800.
Last First Aid skill points I'll ever get, as they're removing it in the next expansion. Always sad to lose a feature that's been with us since the beginning.
Varda - Yesterday at 7:40 PM
They say why it's being dropped?
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 7:41 PM
It doesn't see too much use when it comes to healing and bandages, really. They tried to add new flavor things, like those quests, which also require bone setting etc. But besides the flavor, nobody seems to be using it.
Varda - Yesterday at 7:41 PM
Thanks
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 7:42 PM
They're keeping most of the products, though, and shifting them to tailoring and alchemy.
But as a profession in itself, it's getting dissolved.
Oh, and the weekly for this week is world quests. Easiest one for me; I do enough (especially now that I picked up all Emissaries again for Essences) to complete it without extra effort.
Well, and finally, out of game... something odd is going on with the books. Chronicle Volume 3 arrived this week, very nice, with canonization and straightening out of lore up to the end of Cataclysm expansion, which is the good news
But the other books seem to have been delayed indefinitely; in fact, there are now other of the older novels that are being planned for re-release, including the first 2 volumes of the main comic. I'm missing the second volume, so still ordering it, but I am hoping that the rest will still come.
And that's my report for the week!
Varda - Yesterday at 7:46 PM
Good luck on the books.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Yesterday at 7:46 PM
thanks
