Varda Valar (22:40:38):    Aiya
Ar-Pharazon-V (22:40:46):    Aiya
Eonwe Valar (22:40:49):    Heya early bird :}
Varda Valar (22:40:58):    Aiya :)
Varda Valar (22:41:02):    Trying to get set up
Varda Valar (22:41:22):    I'm in here, Discord, LotRO. Trying to get reports together, etc. :)
Ar-Pharazon-V (22:41:30):    Well, with the 2 most likely candidates here already, I've got a question for both or at least one of you.
Ar-Pharazon-V (22:41:43):    Starting with... are you familiar with Amazon.com?
Eonwe Valar (22:42:01):    I know of it, but don't buy anything from it.
Varda Valar (22:42:29):    Everyone's heard of it. Eowyn buys stuff there all the time
Ar-Pharazon-V (22:42:36):    Hmhm.
Eonwe Valar (22:42:54):    There might still be some Amish who haven't,... :}
Varda Valar (22:43:13):    Might be able to buy Amish products there. ;)
Ar-Pharazon-V (22:43:27):    I wanted to buy some stuff from there (not available on European versions it seems) but having trouble getting it to ship to the Netherlands, and some third party services are giving me trouble as well, unless they're Prime items or something.
Ar-Pharazon-V (22:43:44):    So I wondered if it was possible to grab a middle person out of the Valar Guild ;)
Varda Valar (22:44:12):    I don't understand. Are they US only?
Varda Valar (22:44:32):    O ok, Prime membership only for that?
Ar-Pharazon-V (22:45:24):    No, no, it's the items themselves that seem to be the trouble; only certain stuff can get shipped to Europe (or outside of the US) and an intermediate shipping company I found only works for items with a Prime designation or something, which these don't have.
Ar-Pharazon-V (22:45:44):    They're used, y'see, the items I want are not available new.
Ar-Pharazon-V (22:46:41):    I could poke around some more, see if there's something I can find that does it for me, but the easiest way might simply be to get a friend in the US to buy them for me, send them to the Netherlands personally, while I'd pay them in some way.
Ar-Pharazon-V (22:46:56):    So I thought.. who in the US do I know? :)
Ar-Pharazon-V (22:47:50):    And here you are.
Ar-Pharazon-V (22:48:30):    Bit of a long shot I suppose, but have to try it.
Varda Valar (22:48:55):    Good idea
Varda Valar (22:51:09):    Have you talked with customer service?
Ar-Pharazon-V (22:51:31):    Amazon's?
Varda Valar (22:51:40):    yes
Ar-Pharazon-V (22:52:03):    Not sure if they can do anything, but I suppose I could try if I don't have to phone them.
Varda Valar (22:52:23):    Should have a chat online or email
Varda Valar (22:52:29):    I'm not famiiiar with it
Varda Valar (22:53:10):    Some form of contact
Varda Valar (22:54:12):    Gil-galad says he has to leave in rl for now, but might be back during the meeting.
Ar-Pharazon-V (22:54:27):    What would you suggest I ask them? Whether there's a way to get it shipped anyway? What service they recommend?
Ar-Pharazon-V (22:54:52):    Because if you do know someone who frequently uses the site, I wondered if we could make a deal.
Varda Valar (22:54:55):    Aye, tell them your problem and that you are trying to buy it from Amazon somehow.
Ar-Pharazon-V (22:55:05):    Hm, could do that.
Varda Valar (22:58:18):    Can you still see your notes for people for AIM?
Ar-Pharazon-V (22:59:00):    Hmm, apparently not.
Eonwe Valar (23:01:21):    You can edit the name displayed for you at least by hovering over the name in your buddy list and clicking on the pencil.
Varda Valar (23:01:46):    That's all I see too. Might help on the transcript notes
Varda Valar (23:02:44):    Who all is present? :)
Ar-Pharazon-V (23:02:51):    *raises hand*
Eonwe Valar (23:03:02):    Here am I :}
Varda Valar (23:03:07):    *raises hand too*
Varda Valar (23:03:53):    Yay us
Varda Valar (23:09:17):    Arien around?

Ar-Pharazon-V (23:09:57):    *checks bnet* so she is
Ar-Pharazon-V (23:10:05):    Fladrif's been online this week though!
Varda Valar (23:10:11):    I'm back after an operation on both eyes, but figure I can manage the meeting.
Varda Valar (23:10:16):    Yay Flad!
Eonwe Valar (23:11:42):    Glad to have you here :}
Varda Valar (23:11:52):    Thank you
Varda Valar (23:12:23):    May all in the US have a safe Memorial weekend.
Varda Valar (23:12:39):    A shout-out to all the guild members who have been or are in the service.
Varda Valar (23:13:18):    And thank you to all those not in the guild as well. :)
Varda Valar (23:14:04):    and of course, a remembrance to all who have fallen. Those we knew and those we did not. Quite a few in my family and probably in many of those who are reading.
Varda Valar (23:14:18):    Any other membership news?

Varda Valar (23:15:50):    Web:
Varda Valar (23:16:14):    Nothing new to report for the Tolkien Site, my apologies.
Varda Valar (23:16:33):    Eonwe, did you have anything you wanted to say on Web?
Eonwe Valar (23:16:40):    Aye.
Eonwe Valar (23:17:08):    The Games Site Update is slightly delayed while I determine the reason for some problems that arose with some last minute adjustments.
Eonwe Valar (23:17:46):    As soon as I have time to go over it, I will, and once I have it fixed I'll proceed with the update.
Eonwe Valar (23:18:28):    That's it.
Varda Valar (23:18:34):    Glad you're quality testing before rolling out. I know you did quite a bit earlier, but we appreciate it.
Varda Valar (23:18:48):    So many programs are rolled out full of bugs, that it's refreshing. :)

Varda Valar (23:35:08):    Tolkien:
Varda Valar (23:35:33):    Before I mention my topic, did anyone else have a Tolkien comment or question they would like to mention?

Varda Valar (23:36:28):    What were some of the differentiating characterstics for the different races, especially ones that gave special, useful talents?
Varda Valar (23:36:34):    For instance, the Woses.
Varda Valar (23:37:15):    They were of Man, but enough different physically that the Rohirrim sometimes hunted them. Unlovely.
Varda Valar (23:37:42):    I mentally pictured some form of Neanderthal, probably not quite right. :)
Varda Valar (23:38:15):    Statues of the Pukel-men seem to be of the Woses, probably made by them in the past.
Ar-Pharazon-V (23:38:23):    Perhaps more like native jungle-inhabitants?
Varda Valar (23:38:31):    This suggests that they had a culture at one time.
Varda Valar (23:38:33):    Aye.
Varda Valar (23:38:46):    They were very good at wood-craft, spectacular even.
Ar-Pharazon-V (23:38:59):    Very comfortable living in forests!
Varda Valar (23:39:14):    While the Rohirrim had been a danger to the Woses, they found the forces of Sauron far worse.
Varda Valar (23:39:49):    They put aside their fears and differences, a very high level of thinking there, and offerered their aid as scouts to the Rohirrim.
Varda Valar (23:40:02):    For payment, they simply wanted the forces of Sauron gone.
Ar-Pharazon-V (23:40:18):    I suppose the Rohirrim were not too fond of a people living on the edge of their country, possibly inside it, that they did not control or were able to communicate much with.
Ar-Pharazon-V (23:40:34):    I hope the latter changed after the war.
Varda Valar (23:40:51):    They may have considered them some form of orc, maybe a hybrid.
Varda Valar (23:41:00):    Aye, after the War of the Ring,
Varda Valar (23:41:14):    King Elessar, aka Strider aka Aragorn etc,
Varda Valar (23:41:52):    gave them ownership of the Druadan woods formally, and everyone else had to keep out unless given permission by the Woses.
Varda Valar (23:42:17):    What is another race from Tolkien's legendarium?
Ar-Pharazon-V (23:43:13):    petty dwarves?
Varda Valar (23:43:21):    Ok.
Varda Valar (23:43:39):    Most of the petty dwarves were wiped out by the time we meet the few survivors.
Varda Valar (23:44:10):    They were a sub-group of the dwarves, shorter for one thing.
Varda Valar (23:44:38):    They seemed less concerned about honor, at least of the kind the other dwarves such as the Longbeards showed.
Ar-Pharazon-V (23:44:43):    Petty in more than one way.
Varda Valar (23:44:56):    What special abilities did the petty dwarves show?
Ar-Pharazon-V (23:45:24):    Ehr... poisoning, was it?
Varda Valar (23:47:45):    I'm looking in the Silmarillion for info. They are in the chapter on Turin Turambar
Varda Valar (23:48:25):    They were banished in ancient days from the great Dwarf-cities.
Varda Valar (23:48:38):    ones in the east.
Varda Valar (23:49:14):    Long before Morgoth's return, they went west into Beleriand.
Varda Valar (23:49:34):    But they became smaller and lost a lot of their smith-craft there.
Varda Valar (23:49:57):    They took to stealth (a special ability)
Ar-Pharazon-V (23:50:06):    Ah, there's one :)
Varda Valar (23:50:16):    having bowed shoulders and furtive steps.
Varda Valar (23:50:30):    The Elves didn't know what they were and slew them
Varda Valar (23:50:47):    at first. Later the elves left them alone.
Ar-Pharazon-V (23:51:00):    If you don't know it, kill it. Interesting policy.
Ar-Pharazon-V (23:51:08):    But then, with Morgoth creating new stuff, somewhat understandable.
Varda Valar (23:51:12):    They looked like sneaks. :)
Varda Valar (23:51:23):    They loved only themselves.
Ar-Pharazon-V (23:51:29):    Makes you wonder what they'd do to hobbits on first sight.
Ar-Pharazon-V (23:51:53):    Strange sneaky things only loving farmland and food.
Varda Valar (23:51:55):    They feared and hated the Orcs and Eldar alike, but most of all,
Eonwe Valar (23:51:56):    Well, they were attacked by the Petty Dwarves first, and never got a good look at them. It's not like they just went out and starting killing them on a whim.
Varda Valar (23:52:13):    the Exiles.
Varda Valar (23:52:27):    The Petty-Dwarves claimed the Noldor stole their lands
Varda Valar (23:53:35):    The Petty-dwarves had discovered the caves of Nargothrond before Finrod came.
Ar-Pharazon-V (23:54:00):    So basically it was Ulmo's fault.
Varda Valar (23:54:05):    They began a very slow delving there, untroubled by the Grey Elves.
Varda Valar (23:54:08):    heh
Varda Valar (23:54:35):    because the Sindar kept mostly to the woods. No problem.
Ar-Pharazon-V (23:54:36):    "Yeah, I've got this nice big cave system for you to hide in. Oh, previous inhabitants? Don't worry about those, just drive em away."
Varda Valar (23:55:26):    It doesn't say they drove them out or they just fled when they saw some big folk coming in without doing anything about them.
Ar-Pharazon-V (23:56:23):    Hmm, in that case it's rather an odd position to take; you could almost say they gave away the caves willingly.
Varda Valar (23:56:29):    The people dwindled and died out except Mim and his two sons, and they no longer bothered with their own smithies.
Varda Valar (23:56:49):    Not willingly, but did they fight to keep them? Or just flee?
Varda Valar (23:57:39):    The name of the race was only remembered in Doriath and Nargothrond.
Varda Valar (23:59:28):    It was one of Turin's human band that shot one of the three, a son of Mim, who died.
Varda Valar (23:59:55):    but this is a digression from abilities. I'm looking for your mention of poison, which should be in a bit.
Monday, May 29, 2017
Varda Valar (00:01:27):    Mim and his remaining son were captured by Sauron's forces and led them back to their home, asking only that they not kill Turin.
Varda Valar (00:01:52):    The forces were orcs.
Varda Valar (00:02:22):    Turin was netted and hauled off.
Varda Valar (00:02:44):    Mim checked the bodies of the rest, found the elf Beleg still alive, and was going to kill him with the sword Anglachel.
Varda Valar (00:03:22):    But Beleg took it from him and ran him off.
Varda Valar (00:05:30):    Way later we find that Mim went to Nargothrond, after Glaurung had done his deeds and left.
Varda Valar (00:06:01):    Hurin came there and Mim was blocking him from entering. Bad idea..
Varda Valar (00:06:26):    Hurin knew Mim had betrayed his son, Turin
Varda Valar (00:06:38):    Hurin killed him.
Varda Valar (00:06:55):    I did not spot the poison you mentioned. Could you help me locate it?
Ar-Pharazon-V (00:07:21):    Sorry. I thought I remembered reading something about them poisoning most of the human party. Maybe that's in a different version.
Varda Valar (00:08:19):    That's the Sil. Maybe it's there and I missed it, or it's in the Children of Hurin, or another History?
Ar-Pharazon-V (00:08:36):    Sounds like a History.
Varda Valar (00:10:31):    Children of Hurin, no index. What happened to our Christopher?
Varda Valar (00:10:52):    Everything else is indexed within an inch of its life.
Varda Valar (00:11:46):    Mim has his own chapter
Varda Valar (00:14:05):    Seems they were mistaken for some form of orc, until Turin had a closer look at the captive.
Ar-Pharazon-V (00:14:58):    small orc, then
Varda Valar (00:15:42):    Sorry, but this is hard on my eyes right now, although fun to dig through.
Varda Valar (00:15:49):    I'll have to let you do it for now. :)
Varda Valar (00:16:35):    Muscles were cut on both sides of both eyes, not a lot of stamina to them at the moment, although they are getting better quickly. :)
Varda Valar (00:17:05):    How about another race? One we're more expert on?
Varda Valar (00:17:08):    Hobbits?
Varda Valar (00:17:25):    What made this branch of Man appear different from the mainstream?
Ar-Pharazon-V (00:17:58):    Size. Hairy feet. Resilience to rings.
Ar-Pharazon-V (00:18:45):    Attraction to farmland. Later on, dislike of swimming.
Varda Valar (00:19:08):    Some things in common with the Petty-dwarves such as that short size, ability with stealth. But they were not generally sneaky, nor loving of selves only.
Varda Valar (00:19:41):    Most hobbits weren't keen on being around water, but some such as Tooks and Bucklanders could... swim!
Varda Valar (00:19:52):    Even handle boats a bit.
Varda Valar (00:19:59):    Frodo learned from them.
Varda Valar (00:20:19):    Weird hobbits.
Varda Valar (00:21:04):    Aye, fond of farming rather than smithying. Gardening too, which is similar. Fond of the food results.
Varda Valar (00:21:35):    Elves?
Ar-Pharazon-V (00:21:36):    A bit more of a direct sustenance reward compared to smithying.
Ar-Pharazon-V (00:21:45):    Compared to?
Varda Valar (00:21:59):    Sorry, seemed as if we were through on hobbits.
Varda Valar (00:22:08):    Go ahead. :)
Ar-Pharazon-V (00:22:10):    yes, sure, but we've handled sub-specied so far :)
Varda Valar (00:22:52):    Ok. What are some sub-groups of elves and what made them different enough to have different abilities?
Varda Valar (00:24:06):    Silvans living in the forests mainly, with woodcraft, archery.
Ar-Pharazon-V (00:24:31):    Noldor living in cities, architecture, gemcraft, more smithying.
Ar-Pharazon-V (00:24:40):    Teleri living by the sea. Boats?
Varda Valar (00:24:43):    Sindar, the Grey-elves mentioned earlier, that also liked the forests but were keen on water as well. Teleri were great boatmen.
Varda Valar (00:24:45):    Aye
Varda Valar (00:25:15):    Noldor, the heaviest-built, and most interesting in smithying.
Varda Valar (00:26:25):    So if you needed a stealthy woodsman, you'd want one trained by Silvans.
Varda Valar (00:27:03):    But if you needed the woodsman to be well-educated, might go for a Sinda.
Varda Valar (00:27:45):    The only Elves not used to living with the help of a Ring were in Thranduil's group, mostly Silvans and some Sindar of his household.
Varda Valar (00:28:08):    If you needed stealth, four hobbits certainly filled the bill.
Varda Valar (00:28:22):    And a Ranger, a sub-group of humans in the North at least.
Varda Valar (00:28:50):    A southern Ranger would have been good too, fit right in, but they missed out on that one.
Varda Valar (00:29:04):    But a stealthy dwarf?
Varda Valar (00:29:18):    They were out of Petty-Dwarves by the time of the Fellowship.
Ar-Pharazon-V (00:29:24):    A stealthy dwarf and a showy elf.
Varda Valar (00:29:28):    So maybe a youngish one .
Varda Valar (00:30:11):    Boromir was the least stealthy of the lot. Couldn't even start out without blowing his horn.
Ar-Pharazon-V (00:30:20):    hehe
Ar-Pharazon-V (00:30:29):    He was the tank in a party of rogues.

Varda Valar (00:30:57):    Eonwe needs to leave and I guess we kind of covered the subject. I was trying to bring it around to the Fellowship eventually. :)
Ar-Pharazon-V (00:31:07):    Ah, you had a grand plan :)
Varda Valar (00:31:22):    Well some kind of plan at least, heh.
Varda Valar (00:32:12):    *catches a flying hammer*
Varda Valar (00:32:19):    *it keeps going*
Varda Valar (00:32:35):    *I extend a toe and tap the hammerpad*
Varda Valar (00:32:40):    *tappp!*
Varda Valar (00:32:46):    *and keep on fliying*

Varda Valar (00:32:53):    After-meeting!
Eonwe Valar (00:40:02):    Ladies and gents, I must be off. Take care, good night, sleep well, and have fun :}
Varda Valar (00:40:11):    Namarie!
Varda Valar (00:40:30):    I need to take a break as well, but will scroll back or read the transcript. :)
Ar-Pharazon-V (00:40:36):    Namarie!

Ar-Pharazon-V (01:11:03):    Personal gaming report!
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:14:45):    For flashgames, http://www.kongregate.com/games/bontegames/yellow is the first game, a simple-ish puzzle game where you have to employ various methods of turning the screen yellow.
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:26:45):    http://www.onemorelevel.com/game/dungeon_in_a_bottle as the second, a tricky platformer game with walls closing in on you.
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:35:24):    http://www.kongregate.com/games/kekgames/iceberg is the third game! Fun physics puzzle game, unfreeze the frozen pieces by clicking on them to make them fall, into the gaps of the iceberg, to get below the required height.

Ar-Pharazon-V (01:37:52):    Blizzard gaming:
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:38:51):    Heroes of the Storm: Level 192 now, still getting new skins etc :) This week's brawl was mage wars, with a select pool of random casters, and buffs to their magic. Games can take a long time, but you only need 2 for the reward.
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:40:16):    Next week starts a new event for second anniversary: Do a daily match for a loot chest for the duration of the event, play 3 to get anniversary portrait, banner and spray.
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:41:31):    ...which was something already mentioned by Eonwe, oh well
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:42:03):    Diablo 3: Level 53 in season now, and onward in chapter 3. Unlocked Kanai's Cube as well. Next goal is getting to level 60.
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:42:08):    *chapter 2
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:43:55):    Hearthstone: Going back to the basics for this week's brawl: Make a deck using only basic and classic card sets! Finally a deck-making brawl for which I already had most of the cards ;) As such, it wasn't too difficult.
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:44:43):    Moved on to the Gadgetzan packs in my pack-opening, which some interesting cards. Would be nice to get one or two legendaries, though. Preferably Aya Blackpaw. But chances are low!
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:45:02):    *with some interesting cards
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:45:28):    Also got all my classes caught up, they're now all halfway to the next level or slightly further.
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:46:28):    WoW:
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:47:51):    Not much raiding news. No new stuff from Northrend raids, and we only did one raid for current content, where I got no loot. Not sure if we'll do Mythic now; 7.2.5 seems to be pretty close with the new raid already announced in detail in the blog, like Eonwe linked.
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:48:32):    Bunch more marks of honor got this week, enough to buy the first season weapon appearance arsenal and almost halfway to the second. This is the kind of rate I like :)
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:49:44):    Couple of pet master fights more. No new world quests though.
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:50:23):    Unless... I think I found a new location for a fishing WQ ;)
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:50:57):    This week's weekly was Cataclysm timewalking, with some more timewarped badges collected.
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:52:25):    Some new accomplishments this past week for me: Got my Prestige to level 2, with a special quest in Stormwind, unlocking my first pvp appearance for artifacts. Interesting forms, might use the one for catform for a while, though I do still like the owlcat.
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:53:33):    Also, finally found the queststarter for rank 3 leather skinning! Now I won't need to wait for 7.2.5 and its increased droprate. Which means I'm also finally done with skinning world quests, since I have plenty of leather in my bank already.
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:54:50):    On top of that I also finally got a new recipe from Nomi, which means I no longer need to kill bears for either their meat or their skin. Good thing too, it always felt a bit weird to kill bears as a druid who main-specs bearform, and then give the meat to another (panda)bear ;)
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:56:05):    Some progress in the Suramar questing, too! Cleared a few more sidequests and got started on the side-arcs for the Good Suramaritan achievement, bringing down the leader of the demonic Lightbreaker ship. Next week, more side-arcs.
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:57:38):    Oh, and as for the skinning quest-starter, I made a bit of a start there too, including a beast I had to skin in the Tol Barad raid. Interestingly, you can only enter the raid if your faction owns Tol Barad, and when I got there it was Horde-owned, and I ended up conquering the entire place solo, since I was the only one on my side and the Horde side was completely empty. People really don't care about Tol Barad anymore :)
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:58:10):    Another beast I need to skin is during the Northrend raids we always do on monday, so that'll happen tomorrow. After that I'll get everything else.
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:59:40):    Finally, for appearances, it took a few weeks, but finally got my last item from heroic Durnholde today. Next up will be Mechanar, with almost identical loot-tables for normal and heroic difficulty. And since the only items heroic has that normal hasn't is a few epics my druid can't unlock, I only need to bother myself with normal difficulty. So it should be a lot faster than the last one!
Ar-Pharazon-V (02:00:06):    And that's my report for this week.
Ar-Pharazon-V (02:01:24):    (oh, as final mention, the Hearthstone brawl also doesn't allow epics and legendaries, which meant I really own all the cards available for the brawl)
Ar-Pharazon-V (04:10:45):    Makin' and sendin' transcript.
