Ok, done poking for now.
Any other membership news besides our Discord shock?
Ar-Pharazon-V - Today at 4:14 PM
Had a longer conversation with Flad this time, about getting an SSD
drive. My pc seems to be slowing down...
So yeah, Flad noted :stuck_out_tongue:
*Fladrif
Varda - Today at 4:15 PM
SSD is great! You might also have viruses (general word) slowing it
down.
or stuff in the background. Seems as if all the programs keep getting
more invasive, forcing themselves to run whether or not we want them to.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Today at 4:15 PM
Actually I upgraded my antivirus to the 2018 version... and apparently
it's not helping things either.
Varda - Today at 4:18 PM
I'll let the experts work with that problem. I'm sure not one.
Elwing is currently visiting with me. Meriadoc hopes to be here next
Sunday. Been lots of fun around here.
Any other membership news?
I should mention that you can change your Discord background from white
to "dark" (gray) if you like. I like the gray.

No new news for the Tolkien Site.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Today at 4:21 PM
My chat is white background, the menu on the left is grey (gray?).
Varda - Today at 4:21 PM
My chat is gray (US spelling) or grey (UK spelling), from a setting.
Fun things to play with.
Since JRRT used grey, please feel free to use that.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Today at 4:22 PM
ah, but AIM used white!
Varda - Today at 4:22 PM
Feel free to use white, whatever is most comfortable.
Tons of settings to make this the way that you find most pleasant to
use.

The Winterveil event is now going through January 8th. Check out the

sprays and decals as rewards :}
Hearthstone:
There's a new digital comic up: "Up

That's it for the gaming report.
Varda - Today at 4:27 PM
Thank you, Eonwe.
For a quick run at those links:

They will be added into the transcript.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Today at 4:28 PM

Varda - Today at 4:29 PM
LotRO's Yule Festival is going.
Be sure to pick up your Winter Elk mount and other goodies, as some of

Ar-Pharazon-V - Today at 4:32 PM
Well, it seems that Diablo 4

indirectly been announced, but not sure of the details.
trying to find a link

Ar-Pharazon-V - Today at 4:38 PM
https://www.cnbc.com/2017/12/12/goldman-activision-shares-to-get-a-boost-from-overwatch-diablo-sequels.html
CNBC
Activision shares to get a boost from Overwatch, Diablo sequels,
Goldman says
Goldman Sachs raises its rating for Activision Blizzard shares to buy
from neutral, predicting strong sales results for its future titles.
But looking at the article itself..
"Merwin predicts the company's next "Diablo" game will be released in
2019 and sell 15 million units. He also forecasts "Overwatch 2" will
launch in 2020 and sell 20 million units in its first year." predicts,
eh...
Maybe too much hype
Varda - Today at 4:40 PM
What a concept.
Eonwe Valar - Today at 4:40 PM
If a Diablo game were going to be released in 2019 it'd have to already
be announced, lol.
Varda - Today at 4:40 PM
Next year is only 2018. Could be fine.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Today at 4:40 PM
I'd skimmed over the article linking to that article, and read a few
comments.. it did seem a bit vague.
Oh well, predictions and prophecies are slightly Tolkien-ish
Varda - Today at 4:45 PM
In a Tolkien fan club?
Any other mentions of members seen this past week in other games?
Fangorn and Eowyn and Faramir in StarCraft 2.

Tolkien:
Adaptability of the races in Middle-earth to new
situations. Let's start with Hobbits.
They seemed pretty set in their ways, but once a new situation hit, how
did they do?
Ar-Pharazon-V - Today at 4:48 PM
Growing smaller, going to live underground... or do you mean more
shortterm?
Varda - Today at 4:48 PM
Wolves coming down from the north.
Visitors coming across their lands from other races.
Sharkey's Ruffians.
ArienV - Today at 4:50 PM
that is the prophecy of the evening .. Next year will be 2018
Ar-Pharazon-V - Today at 4:50 PM
They struggle a bit, but when the more rebellious get locked up, they
tend to bear it as much as they can. Until a couple of hobbits come
back home from a journey to the south.
ArienV - Today at 4:52 PM
they find unexpected resources .. and unexpected power reserves, ..
preferring a peaceful life they are willing to fight as they are driven
to it and encouraged a bit by the four Travellers
ArienV - Today at 5:00 PM
they are loyal obviously .. the acknowledg and acknowledged thei King
of Gondor , Aragorn in the fourth age and . i forgot which King it was
, one of the old Numenorean line where he asked for
support in a war . sorry only weak memories
they sent some archers if i remember right
Ar-Pharazon-V - Today at 5:01 PM
When in doubt, send archers. In a winning situation they are more
likely to return home than the melee.
ArienV - Today at 5:01 PM
during the reign of the last king of Arnor
Varda - Today at 5:02 PM
They may be unsung, but they're there.
Next up: Elves.
At Cuivienen, they were beset by Morgoth's forces, including riders
intended to make them afraid if Orome came by. Orome did indeed
discover them. How did they do with that new situation?
ArienV - Today at 5:04 PM
that was Arvedui Last King
Ar-Pharazon-V - Today at 5:05 PM
I think they joined him anyway? Maybe he felt less foul...
Varda - Today at 5:06 PM
Some of the elves were afraid, ran and hid, and were picked off to be
(apparently) corrupted into orcs as those that were more easily
frightened, less observant, hiders.
Others went to check on Orome, curious, less afraid.
Three even went back to Valinor with him to check out the place, before
leading their bands towards Valinor.
In the new situation of traveling across Middle-earth towards Valinor,
what happened?
ArienV - Today at 5:09 PM
some stayed behind in Middlearth
they became the wood elves or vanished
Ar-Pharazon-V - Today at 5:09 PM
Some delayed a bit too long.
One of em got distracted by a Maia.
Varda - Today at 5:10 PM
hehe
ArienV - Today at 5:10 PM
apparently
Eonwe Valar - Today at 5:10 PM
Some got scared by mountains.
Varda - Today at 5:10 PM
Aye
Ar-Pharazon-V - Today at 5:12 PM
"What's that? Why is there a big rock in the way? What's going on??"
Varda - Today at 5:13 PM
Some simply liked the land they were seeing and decided to settle in
it. Everything was still new and fresh.
During the War of the Ring, what affected the adaptability of the three
main elven areas?
Ar-Pharazon-V - Today at 5:14 PM
I can think of at least 4, but Grey Havens didn't see much action.
Varda - Today at 5:14 PM
Thanks, four.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Today at 5:15 PM
Nor did Rivendell. Just a lot of talky while some Ring was paying a
visit.
Varda - Today at 5:15 PM
The Grey Havens received a good number of outgoing elves heading for
Valinor in that time.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Today at 5:15 PM
True.
Need to accomodate all of them while the ships are being built.
Varda - Today at 5:16 PM
Rivendell seemed more open to new ideas and other races coming around,
yet stayed pretty tightly in one place. They remained inside the safety
of their Ring.
How about Lothlorien?
Ar-Pharazon-V - Today at 5:17 PM
Lorien stayed kinda safe for most of it, though there was the
occasional incursion.
And they did take the war eastward.
Varda - Today at 5:17 PM
Lorien was attacked at least three times.
ArienV - Today at 5:17 PM
was bordered by mountains and surrounded by rivers .. that means the
power of Ulmo was there
Ar-Pharazon-V - Today at 5:17 PM
And also another ring.
Varda - Today at 5:17 PM
Interesting. We don't hear much about Ulmo in relation to Lothlorien.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Today at 5:18 PM
They did use boats.
ArienV - Today at 5:18 PM
but i am sure the rivers played some role? in the silmarillion it is
mentioned that Ulmo's power lives in all rivers
Varda - Today at 5:18 PM
Aye, Lorien plus Thranduil's people attacked Dol Guldur and the evils
coming out of it. A mite too busy to mess with Helm's Deep.
Aye, Ulmo is in all the waters.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Today at 5:19 PM
...Haldir didn't show up at Erebor in the movie, I assume?
Varda - Today at 5:20 PM
Haldir was part of Lorien, not Mirkwood, and no.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Today at 5:20 PM
Wouldn't be surprised, with PJ directing.
Varda - Today at 5:20 PM
I personally would have thought it weird if Legolas didn't show up.
PJ was closer to the books than a number of others would have been.
Check out some of those potentials and shudder at their suggestions.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Today at 5:21 PM
hehe
Varda - Today at 5:21 PM
And yes, we book readers had a lot of "huh?" going.
Kind of neat how Bilbo in the movies usually didn't see a lot of the
"huh?" moments that we did.
Lorien was probably the least able to adapt to changing situations. Is
that right or not?
Ar-Pharazon-V - Today at 5:23 PM
It was kinda fixed on the conservation through ring, to the point that
even the days seemed to stop counting.
Varda - Today at 5:23 PM
True
Ar-Pharazon-V - Today at 5:23 PM
Mirkwood, in contrast, had no choice but to adapt.
Varda - Today at 5:26 PM
Mirkwood had no Ring, and never had one. They had to depend on
themselves. However, they were also under constant attack, so that
affected their behavior a great deal.
ArienV - Today at 5:26 PM
it was a; bit close to Dol Guldur eh?
Ar-Pharazon-V - Today at 5:27 PM
And Smaug.
ArienV - Today at 5:27 PM
its not surprising that part of the corruption or of the scary feeling
penetrated in there .. see the spiders, the feeling of fear that the
forest caused in the dwarves and Bilbo
Elladan - Today at 5:27 PM
Aiya
Ar-Pharazon-V - Today at 5:28 PM
Aiya!
ArienV - Today at 5:28 PM
Aiya Elladan
the river Esgalduin i am not sure whether trhat was a protection
mechanism of the Elves
Ar-Pharazon-V - Today at 5:28 PM
Well, dwarves
were never really fond of forests.
Varda - Today at 5:28 PM
Nice lumber there.
Aiya Elladan
Ar-Pharazon-V - Today at 5:29 PM
I guess lumber can be used in the mines and caves
Varda - Today at 5:30 PM
Used to help strengthen mining tunnels. Good for furniture, goods.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Today at 5:30 PM
Spoons.
Varda - Today at 5:30 PM
ArienV - Today at 5:30 PM
The dwarves otherwise adapted well . they had to if they wanted to
survive
Varda - Today at 5:31 PM
We seem to have moved to dwarves, so let's go with them.
They kept to themselves a lot. Their language and many customs were not
shared, for instance.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Today at 5:31 PM
Well, dwarves were resilient. Not much adaptation necessary.
Varda - Today at 5:32 PM
They did work with elves in the making of things and for their own
protection, but mostly kept to themselves.
At least some had trouble accepting the idea of a new home.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Today at 5:32 PM
Preferred to get the old one back.
Varda - Today at 5:32 PM
They kept trying to get the old ones back.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Today at 5:33 PM
Dwarves, by nature, did not change or like to change very much.
ArienV - Today at 5:33 PM
yup
did Thorin and his folk really job as wandering weapon and armour
smiths? or was that just film?
Varda - Today at 5:34 PM
Elves' adaptability was partly affected by being tied to Arda. Dwarves
may have had a somewhat similar problem.
Thorin and crew had to work (along with Thrain) in a new home with
their hands and with much less of any claim to nobility.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Today at 5:36 PM
I think they had temporary homes in the blue mountains, rather than
wandering much.
Varda - Today at 5:36 PM
Even with a Ring, they didn't have gold to prime the pump for the Ring
to work, so they were not well-off compared to what they were used to.
Aye, only wandering because they were heading back to reclaim Erebor.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Today at 5:36 PM
Yes.
Of course, supporting a party of 13, they might have resorted to doing
smithing jobs on the way for food.
Varda - Today at 5:37 PM
Very likely that they did.
Maybe like tinkers too, fixing old pots and pans. Bet they were
underwhelmed by that.
ArienV - Today at 5:38 PM
well yeah so they adapted by need .
Ar-Pharazon-V - Today at 5:38 PM
Some might have liked it
ArienV - Today at 5:38 PM
but didnt like it much
Varda - Today at 5:38 PM
They adapted, but it was not what they wanted to keep doing, just
something to survive on the way.
Funny how the elves and dwarves both wanted to keep things the same, in
the old status quo.
ArienV - Today at 5:40 PM
maybe they were more similar than they realized or they did notice it
and liked that even less
Ar-Pharazon-V - Today at 5:40 PM
hehe
Varda - Today at 5:40 PM
True also of "respectable" hobbits, yet they seemed to adapt better
long term, such as living alongside Big Folk in Bree.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Today at 5:41 PM
Well, hobbits were descended from humans. And humans can be rather varied.
Varda - Today at 5:41 PM
True.
Speaking of humans, how was their adaptability?
Ar-Pharazon-V - Today at 5:41 PM
All over the place.
Forests. Forts. Castles. Fields, steppes, deserts...
water...
ArienV - Today at 5:43 PM
they were the most flexible of the races
Ar-Pharazon-V - Today at 5:43 PM
And hence the most spread out.
Varda - Today at 5:43 PM
They were not tied to Arda in their fate, had the most freedom of all
races.
They could not be predicted, the wild card.
ArienV - Today at 5:43 PM
where ver they settled they managed to surive there
Varda - Today at 5:43 PM
Aye.
And they made the new place "home".
ArienV - Today at 5:45 PM
People liek the folk of Forochel in game can be easily imagined
in the books
Varda - Today at 5:45 PM
They had a real capability for self-sacrifice when needed.
Shall we call it here? Getting late for several people.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Today at 5:48 PM
What races remain? Ents, trolls, eagles... what we know of them, they
didn't change much.
Varda - Today at 5:49 PM
Trolls changed, but more by outside manipulation.
Not by adapting.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Today at 5:50 PM
Same for orcs.
Though I did get the feeling orcs were more used to adapting to the
wilds and any circumstance they ended up.
Varda - Today at 5:52 PM
Maybe because the orcs originally came from a race that could adapt to
such things.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Today at 5:53 PM
I wonder. Whatever orcs remained after Sauron and Saruman were gone,
would they have roamed around, making war on each other, forming bandit
groups?
Or settled down somewhere in a secluded corner?
Varda - Today at 5:53 PM
Some orcs said they wanted to set up their own bandit gangs, keep the
loot.
Aragorn and Eomer had to travel around with armies putting out the
hotspots.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Today at 5:55 PM
Hunted to extinction in the end, perhaps.
Unless they could make new orcs, I assume they weren't just made
from mud as in the movie
Varda - Today at 5:55 PM
They could make new orcs in the manner natural to Arda, a paraphrase as
it's not right in front of me.
Not pod people.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Today at 5:56 PM
hehe
Do we just never see female orcs, or were they rather like dwarves,
rare and similar to the males?
Varda - Today at 5:57 PM
They might been hard to tell apart ,or rare. I don't know. They did
exist.

Personal gaming report!
Flashgaming:
http://www.onemorelevel.com/game/a_platformer_for_ants
is the first! A platformer where with every area you unlock, the screen
scales up until you can barely see your character and the platforms
anymore. Hit checkpoints to reset the scale.
A Platformer For Ants - OneMoreLevel.com
Bit shorter than I had expected, with a timer to see how fast you can
finish it. But still, it's a nice idea
http://www.onemorelevel.com/game/expanse
is the second game! Control a rocket, going from platform to platform
to pick up fuel, collect coins to upgrade your rocket. Try not to crash
into things.
Expanse - OneMoreLevel.com
Ar-Pharazon-V - Today at 6:26 PM
http://www.onemorelevel.com/game/robbie_robot
for the third! Another platformer, this time as a point-and-click
puzzle, similar to the Snail Bob games I've probably linked in the
past. Guide Robbie through the levels to pick up items to fix the other
machines which have malfunctioned.
Robbie Robot - OneMoreLevel.com
Also similar to Snail Bob, you can collect hidden objects and
objectives in each level, something which I did not discover until
level 6
And now, for a special bonus.. while trying to see if Expanse was also
on Kongregate, I came across a rather obscure game that involves
finding hidden numbers in each picture. They blend into the background
a bit too well, but if you're stuck you can click "reveal" after a
timer to get a highlight around a missing number.
https://www.kongregate.com/games/argon025/endless-expanse
it is!
Kongregate
Endless expanse
Find the numbers hidden in the picture. To complete the game you will
need to collect all the numbers. Hidden Numbers is a game made for kids
but is fun for ev...
Less than 400 plays since 2012, and only one (negative) comment, but it
may still be something fun to do
And nice music too! I wonder why this went unnoticed.

Blizzard gaming!
Ar-Pharazon-V - Today at 6:47 PM
Hearthstone: Pushing on,
nearing level 52. Because of this week's brawl, which is all Valeera
(rogue) with random spells and random minions of the same mana
cost summoned per spell - really random, took me 6 games to get a win -
I did get my rogue to level 52, getting the second golden war golem,
widely regarded of one of the worst cards ever.
Still, something for the collection!
Other classes are not too far behind, however.
Diablo 3: Level 70 now in the
season, and chapter 2 of the season journey finished. Chapter 3 looks
simpler, but includes a bunch of full bounty acts so requires longer
sessions. Shouldn't take me too long though. It's chapter 4 I'm
dreading.
Heroes of the Storm: got a few
more levels, up to 237. One of those was Zagara who is now 15, the
golden level, giving the maximum portrait reward for that hero, and the
point at which I put a new one in my line-up for the same
role/franchise combination. So my next Starcraft Specialist is Sergeant
Hammer!
Fun hero, can blast things from range while in siege mode.
Starcraft 2: Working on the War
Chest, now 3 out of 5 nodes unlocked for the first part. Should be done
in about 5 days, then it's waiting until the second part is unlocked.
*available, I should say. I'd still need to unlock it bit by bit.
WoW:
No new pets from the old raids, though we were done sooner than usual
because one of the three of us was absent, which meant we could skip
Blackwing Descent. But then again it was the mage, so we needed to
travel around more instead
Raiding still progressing, now 4 bossfights down on heroic difficulty
in Antorus, including the Eonar fight. We've also been poking normal
difficulty a bit more, and I have now personally tanked each fight in
the raid at some difficulty or other. Some are quite fun to tank
No new pet from Wailing Caverns either, got a fourth of one of the ones
I already had. But since you can only use 3 for yourself, I sent it to
someone who will try to auction it for me.
Leveled my feral artifact to 75, the maximum needed for every
netherlight crucible trait. After that I started pouring more AP into
the guardian artifact, which is now 72, so not far behind.
Got an achievement for getting the first one to 75, as well
Ar-Pharazon-V - Today at 7:00 PM
Been doing Argus stuff some more, as well. Getting some reputation,
getting a few mission quests, and doing some more invasions. I made a
list of rares that can drop mounts, and will poke them if their world
quests are up. I've also been clearing the rares that can drop
fel-spotted eggs as much as I can, in the hopes of getting all the
different pets and mounts from them. Had 7 in my inventory at the same
time at some point, since they take 5 days to hatch.
No new rewards from them yet, though, just yolk from the few that have
hatched.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Today at 7:01 PM
Also on Argus, I finally went through the 5-man dungeon, completing the
crown of the triumvirate and unlocking 2 more cutscenes, including
Alleria getting void-blasted in the face.
Got a new pet from Crysa the pet tamer that was introduced in the
Northern Barrens, after fighting her daily for a while. An albino
buzzard, looks nice
Did a bunch of pvp this week as well, 10 arena skirmishes for the
weekly quest, and more Talon's Vengeance rep gathering. Got revered
this week, which means I'm over halfway.. only 189 marks left,
battlegrounds have been productive
And then came Winter Veil! Not too many new things, a couple of new
cosmetic hats which look remarkably like the old ones I already have, I
might not bother with the new ones yet this year. Should be soloable
next year in the new expansion, anyway.
Also got the Winter's Grasp weapon illusion from doing the Greench
quest, so I don't really have to do that either unless I want to try
with some alts for the flames of ragnaros illusion at 0.5% chance.
And I got the new winter veil pet as well, the Globe Yeti, which
sometimes spawns in the giant snowglobes that are now present in the
capital cities. Chances of getting one are low, but with a target macro
and interact-key-spamming I managed to get one after only 5 minutes of
camping the place out.
Oh! And I started the Higher Learning achievement in Azsuna, as the
first of my lined-up side projects. Simpler and less random than I
thought, seems one chapter spawns each day of the week, starting with
chapter 1 on sunday which I already got. Will go for a new chapter
every day, and should finish on saturday.
And I think that's it... no, I also reached 50 Curious Coins, allowing
me to buy the toy from Xurios, which is the last item I want for coins.
Now that it's done I can stop doing emissaries I already have the
paragon reward for, since they were the main source of coin-drops. I
can also start doing more keystone mythics instead of basic mythics,
another source of coins.
Don't have the toy yet though, the item Xurios has available is random
every day. But now that I have the coins I just have to check daily.
Yep, I think that's my report for the week!

Thank you, Phar.

Oh wait, the Heroes of the Storm
brawl!
Ar-Pharazon-V - Today at 7:13 PM
Very nice brawl this week! Blackheart Bay, but with a lot of coins in
large spawns; be the first team to collect 100 coins and deliver them
to Captain Blackheart to win the match. If you die the coins drop for
anyone to collect, so the later stages of the map are really about
killing each other for larger and larger stacks of coins and trying to
prevent the other team from delivering them. Can get quite intense.
But fun
And that is it
Varda - Today at 7:14 PM
Ok.

Ok.
I have the transcript. Just need to set it up on the News page next.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Today at 7:15 PM
Great!
Varda - Today at 7:15 PM
Been copy/pasting
Ar-Pharazon-V - Today at 7:15 PM
I'll probably copy it over myself for a personal archive but I'm having
trouble with mass copying and pasting and still getting dates and times
right.
But it's good to know you have something that works there.
Varda - Today at 7:16 PM
Just selecting and copying, then pasting. It's not great, but
serviceable. Been adding the links back in.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Today at 7:16 PM
Ah, right.
Varda - Today at 7:17 PM
Gorlim just gave us a screen shot.
I don't see it
Ar-Pharazon-V - Today at 7:19 PM
it's in harbor
Varda - Today at 7:19 PM
Thanks. Expected it under screenshots, heh.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Today at 7:20 PM
that would be silly
