Varda Valar: Web:
Varda Valar: Tolkien Site / Art:
Varda Valar: Bohemian Weasel-(T)
Varda Valar: This one's intended to be amusing, so enjoy!
Varda Valar: http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/art/gallery/BohemianWeasel/characters/Hobbits/after_marshes.jpg
Varda Valar: She said:

Varda Valar: Between other things, and as cathartic self-indulgence, I finished this:
A combination of an English landscape (Cumbria in this case) and a scene from Lord of the Rings: Strider leading the Hobbits from the Midgewater Marshes to the Weather Hills (where Frodo will have an unfortunate encounter with a Wraith).
Varda Valar: But for now, the Hobbits greatest concern is getting that 'fool of a Took' across the stream without him bathing in it (and pulling poor Merry in after). Frodo intends to help, as soon as he can stop laughing.
Strider and Sam (with Bill the pony) are ahead.
Varda Valar: his is an original painting/drawing. Acrylics and pencils on hot-press pastel paper, 21x29 cms

Varda Valar: According to her Facebook page, the original was put up for sale, something she doesn't usually do, and sold very quickly. Prints are still available though, and the pic on the site. :-)
Arien V: hehe love it :-)
Varda Valar: ^^
Arien V: i can understand why it sold so fast
Varda Valar: Aye
arpharazonv: Poor Pippin, never catching a break.
Varda Valar: Eonwe has faithfully put up the latest gaming news for us.
Varda Valar: O right. We all like to pick on him now. Comes from his being the youngest.
Varda Valar: So easy to do something the adults wouldn't do, good character to include.
Varda Valar: and to make him seem more like a cute little enting to Treebeard.
Varda Valar: Kept them from being squashed.

Varda Valar: Gaming:
Varda Valar: In LotRO, this is the last day of the Anniversary celebration, so grab your tokens while you can. :-)
Varda Valar: Hobnangians is also going on.

Varda Valar: WoW:
Varda Valar: This week's new Toybox Tuesday blog: The Children's Crusade.
Varda Valar: A developer update on the Legion expansion is coming May 10th.
Varda Valar: Arien has some WoW news for us. Go ahead, Sunshine. :-)
Arien V: yes in WoW US as a matter of fact :-)
Arien V: i got 7 days free gametime there and WoD for free as part of a promotion and have been using it a fair few times :-)
Varda Valar: Nice :-)
arpharazonv: Grats!
Arien V: Glorfindel got the same gift and i ve seen him and Auros (Eonwe) as well :-)
Varda Valar: Woot! That's really good news
Arien V: we both got some ungilded characters in the guildbranch
Varda Valar: Yay! Much easier to find each other
Arien V: mine was Aglarien the pally i started last and boosted with the free level 90 boost that was in that promo as well ^
arpharazonv: Ah yes, that comes with the WoD expansion by default.
Arien V: yup quite nice looking boosting gear
Arien V: probably going to leave it on her for some day .. i am not sure whether i want to pay sub for US and Europe but its nice to see some old friends again :-)
Varda Valar: Might have another promo later on too
Arien V: that's all my news there and indeed
Varda Valar: Thank you, Arien :-)
arpharazonv: Well, I believe there's another promo tied to a ticket for the upcoming movie.
Varda Valar: ahhh. Hope you all grab it!
arpharazonv: Looking for the details...
Arien V: i got a nice new Horde T-shirt for the movie ^^
Arien V: black with the horde logo in silver and blood red and "for the horde!" in blood red :)#
arpharazonv: http://www.mmo-champion.com/content/5664-Warcraft-Movie-Rewards is a short post about it, though not official.
arpharazonv: But it's a start.

Varda Valar: Diablo 3:
Varda Valar: New tranmogs based on swords Blizzard awards employees at the 5-year mark were put into the recent patch. See the blog for more info.

Varda Valar: Heroes of the Storm:
Varda Valar: Check out the balance update notes.
Varda Valar: There's a preview of new characters and skins. Check it out!
Varda Valar: Changes are coming to ranked play. See the blog for more info.

Varda Valar: Overwatch:
arpharazonv: Chromieeeee
Varda Valar: There's a new digital comic: "Going Legit".
Varda Valar: There's an open beta going for all interested parties until May 9th. See the announcement, and if you want to give it a try, don't miss your chance.
Varda Valar: That's all from the Gaming Site.

Varda Valar: Phar? Chromie?
arpharazonv: Chromie's one of the new upcoming Heroes of the Storm heroes. A fan-favorite bronze dragon/gnome from World of Warcraft since the original release.
arpharazonv: I'm sure a lot of people are excited about her upcoming presence.
arpharazonv: So far my interruption, carry on!

arpharazonv: Oh, since we're still in Gaming...
arpharazonv: there've been a few trailers for characters in the soon-to-come movie, if anyone is interested in them.
arpharazonv: Durotan, Lothar, Garona and Khadgar I think?
arpharazonv: This is for the Warcraft movie, if that wasn't clear.
Varda Valar: I remember Chromie, a tiny character who is also able to become a dragon. Very fun.
arpharazonv: Yep, that's her.
arpharazonv: Or rather the other way around, but.. semantics, hm?
Arien V: indeed she is a bronze aye
Varda Valar: Any other comments, suggestions, etc before we switch from gaming and business?
Varda Valar: Oh, for gaming. Sauron and Bilbo have been playing a fair bit in Marvel Superheroes.
top

Varda Valar: Tolkien:
Varda Valar: Did any of you have a topic or question or Tolkien Moment that you wanted to mention first? Then we'can do the Gorlim-V blitz.
Varda Valar: I'll take the cricket sounds as a no. :-)
arpharazonv: Go ahead :)
Varda Valar: Gorlim-V was on his Athbarn character in LotRO, so you'll know who it is in the quotes upcoming.

Varda Valar: [Kinship] Athbarn: does aragorn remake gondor in the elven image or is there a revived culture that doesnt partake of elven lore?
Varda Valar: (or another answer rather than one of the or answers)
arpharazonv: It is said that from Gondor and Aragorn's line come many bloodlines and civilizations we're familiar with, right? Other than that, we don't really know. I'm sure he incorporated some Elven values, especially those that apply in a time of relative peace rather than constant vigil.
Varda Valar: Good answer
Varda Valar: We also know he had to have had some elvish culture influencing what he did, as he grew up with elves and had an elvish wife.
Varda Valar: HIs son Eldarion is Son of the Elf
Varda Valar: Legolas was also present, making gardens around the whole of Minas Tirith to improve the looks from a pile of stone.
arpharazonv: To be fair, his mother was mostly Elf ;)
Varda Valar: Aye
Arien V: in Aragorns marriage the bloodline of Halfelves was restored
Arien V: i remember something like that
Arien V: or was it that the bloodline of kings was restored? i cant remember the exact quote
Varda Valar: The bloodline of Numenor included Elros as the first king, and he was Elrond's brother that chose Man as a race. Both are true.
arpharazonv: There was something about the two half-elf branches being restored, yes.
Arien V: :-)
Varda Valar: Elrond's side from Arwen was combined with Elros' side from Aragorn.
Varda Valar: Nifty thought, thanks. :-)
Varda Valar: The twins reunited.
arpharazonv: Yep. The one from Middle-Earth and the one from Numenor.
Varda Valar: Aye
Varda Valar: Gondor already had some elven influence. They used Quenya in scholarly writing more than the elves did, since Thingol pretty much banned it.
Varda Valar: They had Imrahil's bloodline that carried some elvish blood from Nimrodel's maid.
Varda Valar: They used a lot of elvish names
Varda Valar: But mostly they were human, Numenorean influence. Aragorn seemed inclined to keep up the general traditions and architecture. Probably just some elvish influence
Varda Valar: They would have had more of the different races coming and going, new trade.
arpharazonv: Hard to resist, perhaps, with new elf neighbours and his own upbringing.
Varda Valar: Even dwarfish influence, as Gimli had his people rebuilding the gates and doing repairs.
Varda Valar: Merry and Pippin visited and were well known.
arpharazonv: Hobbit habits might've come to Gondor, too!
arpharazonv: Like various meals.
Varda Valar: The place would have been more cosmopolitan than before
Varda Valar: True

Varda Valar: Here's another topic from Gorlim-V. :-)
Varda Valar: I'll type the whole bit:
Varda Valar: [Kinship] Athbarn: another one would be is there a world exploration effort on the seas in the new age?
Varda Valar: [Kinship] Athbarn: hmm a better way to put it is what happens if gondorian explores find the elves across the sea?
Varda Valar: [Kinship] Athbarn: so in theory there are undiscovered lands out there
Varda Valar: [Kinship] Athbarn: its a very narnia concept
Varda Valar: /endquote
arpharazonv: Well, there's the Straight Road thing, so I doubt the Gondorian explorers would make it to Aman.
arpharazonv: They might sail around and find Elves on the east side, though.
Varda Valar: Aye, not Aman.
arpharazonv: And there were said to be new lands in the world made round.
arpharazonv: Presumably based on the Americas.
Varda Valar: Was the island of the elves taken into Valinor or left in Middle-earth during the change?
Varda Valar: Possibly. I like to kid that the Americas are Valinor, but maybe not. :-)
Varda Valar: Since they couldn't sail to Valinor.
Varda Valar: Anyway, that would give lots of land to discover and explore.
arpharazonv: Tol Eressea? There have been multiple accounts of that throughout the history of the texts... I believe it either came down to "it went away with Valinor" or "it sunk like Numenor".
Varda Valar: Would only Men go there? Could the new lands be a new place for other races too?
Varda Valar: We never see Tol Eressea again, but it seemed to be a good place for the elves to retire. No reason to destroy it.
arpharazonv: Based on the observation that the masterstone was still operational and could be reached by the one at Elostirion, I don't think it got destroyed, no.
Varda Valar: Could it have been at the very edge of the changed area in Valinor? Maybe it was a stop along the way?
Varda Valar: Maybe it became a part of Teleri country offshore?
arpharazonv: That sounds most likely :)

Varda Valar: Here's the next topic.
Varda Valar: [Kinship] Athbarn: heres another one, so if arwen and aragon marry and have kids, and one of those marries a beorning (I assume there is more than one) what would the effect be?
Varda Valar: [Kinship] Athbarn: i actually think that would be an interesting discussion.. we already know that aragorn is of ancient blood and will live a long time
Varda Valar: [Kinship] Athbarn: and arwen is elvish and will live even longer..
Varda Valar: [Kinship] Athbarn: Beornings live a long time and have the bear form / talk to animals and are of ancient blood
Varda Valar: [Kinship] Athbarn: get a good story of the royal children and beornings i think
Varda Valar: [Kinship] Athbarn: im less interesed in the political issues than what happens if you get the beorning skills mixed.
Varda Valar: /endquote
Arien V: mixed heritage ? they seem to have similar attributes like being long lived and an ancient bloodline
arpharazonv: I think we're talking about elven bears ;)
Varda Valar: Mix Beornings with Aragorn's children.
Arien V: Probably the skinchanging ability might pass through the generations ..like a grandmothers haircolor? maybe skip a generation and come down to one of the children born into the new one?
arpharazonv: Could be fun.
Varda Valar: I can see it happening, as Aragorn had so many daughters. They could have been married off for alliances, peace-making, and just because they met so many unusual leaders due to living at the palace.
Varda Valar: Big hunky Beorning might be quite interesting to at least one of them.
Arien V: if it follows the rules of dna i think .. there are some that get passed on directly from generation to generation from either mother or father and sometimes one might skip a generation and return
arpharazonv: "Spread em around all over the world, I've got plenty of daughters anyway!"
Varda Valar: Get them out from under the same roof, please!
Varda Valar: The Beornings would live between the Greenwood elves and the Rivendell elves too, so they would have other sorts of company available too.
Varda Valar: Get to see Uncle Elladan and Uncle Elrohir. :-)
Arien V: did their numbers increase again after the war of the rings?
Arien V: War of the Ring .. pardon me , there was only one :-)
Varda Valar: Aragorn and Thranduil gave the wild men the area between Mirkwood and the southern area where the Lorien elves stayed for a while.
Varda Valar: Elrond, Galadriel, and Gandalf had hidden Rings too, so not far off. :-)
Arien V: true Varda :-)
Arien V: and "wild men" , was that not the Woses or did it include the Beornings?
Varda Valar: In the Greenwood area, don't think they had Woses there.
Varda Valar: The Woses were more around Rohan
arpharazonv: The "wild men" around Mirkwood would be akin to the Beornings then. The early Eorlinga were part of that too, maybe?
Varda Valar: I'm not sure.
Varda Valar: They don't seem to be the right type physically
Varda Valar: Ready for the next topic? :-)
Arien V: all right
Arien V: go on :-)

Varda Valar: [Kinship] Athbarn: hmm come to think of it, does the elves from the hobbit leave with the high elves (elrond etc) at the end of the age?
Varda Valar: [Kinship] Athbarn: my memory is vague about whether or not legolas leaves on the boat with frodo.
Varda Valar: so does his father and the rest of the elves travel too or do they just fade?
Varda Valar: /endquote
arpharazonv: Well, Legolas goes off later with Gimli, not with Frodo's boat, and only because the seagulls were playing in his head.
arpharazonv: It might be that, of those elves coming to visit Ithilien, the ones who strayed a bit too close to the coast might have caught the bug as well.
Varda Valar: Good point
arpharazonv: But in general, I don't think any of the Silvans (and the bit of Sindar blood that remained) had much of an ambition to go West, especially since they'd never been there in the first place.
Varda Valar: Agreed. The desire to go West needed to be triggered in the Sindar, and probably Silvans, but the music of creation in the Sea.
Varda Valar: The Noldor had a low-level desire to go back all the time. The Sindar had no interest at all so no immunity when they heard the Sea.
arpharazonv: Interesting point about the immunity :)
Varda Valar: There's a reason they're the Teleri, the Sea-elves, in Valinor. Even there they stay near shore.
arpharazonv: The gulls, the gulls are playing...
Varda Valar: :-)
Varda Valar: Thranduil's people are far from the Sea. They would have remained, maybe been the ones fading in later days.
Arien V: sorry closed the wrong window ;-)
arpharazonv: Aiyata :)
Varda Valar: oops :-)
Arien V: whats the topic then?#
Arien V: and hantal PHari :-)
Varda Valar:     [Kinship] Athbarn: hmm come to think of it, does the elves from the hobbit leave with the high elves (elrond etc) at the end of the age?
[Kinship] Athbarn: my memory is vague about whether or not legolas leaves on the boat with frodo.
so does his father and the rest of the elves travel too or do they just fade?
    /endquote
Varda Valar: Welcome back. =-O
Varda Valar: :-)
Arien V: if I remember right Leogolas himself remained for a little in Ithilien , went wandering with Gimli, and sailed with Gimli to Valinor , wasn't it?
arpharazonv: Yep.
arpharazonv: Not sure about the wandering.
Varda Valar: Aye. Legolas founded a colony of elves from Mirkwood in Ithilien, helped Aragorn's city of Minas Tirith by making parks there, along with help from his people in Ithilien.
Arien V: well at least i think they visited each other in the years they remained in Middleearth i should think
Varda Valar: Then after Aragorn's death, Legolas built a boat and he and Gimli headed the long way around to go to Valinor, having many adventures along the way.
Varda Valar: Aye, they would have been visiting. Gimli was also helping out with the rebuilding, he and his people redoing the gate and stonework.
Varda Valar: Merry and Pippin visited Minas Tirith too
Varda Valar: I wonder if any of Thranduil's people visited with those in Ithilien, and dropped in as tourists to Minas Tirith. See the Tower of Ecthelion!
Arien V: boh were taken to Minas Tirith after their deaths if memory serves right
Varda Valar: Aye. They were buried next to Aragorn.
Varda Valar: Legolas and Gimli didn't leave until the rest of the Fellowship died. They were the last two left.
arpharazonv: "Aragorn's finally kicked the bucket, now we can sail off without him pestering us to join us in his old age."
Varda Valar: About right :-)
Arien V: Who knows :)? it depends whether some of them lost their reclusiveness since they were not hunted anymore or shunned their kin, since they counted almosts as "barbarians" among Elves .. i vaguely remember them being discribed as "more wild , and not so learned"
Varda Valar: And they would not have been upsetting Arwen with reminders of her being unable to see her parents again.
Varda Valar: They didn't have the Noldor influence as those at Rivendell and Lorien.
Varda Valar: The learning of the Sindar came from their time at the shores where Ulmo and Osse and probably Uinen taught them.
Varda Valar: Since Legolas went to Rivendell alone, they may have had some contact with Elrond. But it does say he was a strange elf, so no other Mirkwood folk were probably around, or not seen at least.
Varda Valar: Frodo was observant.
arpharazonv: Yet he kept missing his uncle until after the big fancy dinner.
Varda Valar: He had a pretty good idea what was going on, I think. I'll have to give that a re-read. Bilbo and Gandalf said he suspected.
arpharazonv: No, I meant in Rivendell :)
Varda Valar: o ok

Varda Valar: One last comment from Gorlim. :-)
Varda Valar: [Kinship] Athbarn: wife and i went to galveston this morning to listen to the sea.. we are leaving for valinor later tonight
arpharazonv: Heh.
arpharazonv: Good luck finding the straight path!

Varda Valar: *picks up a blue hammer*
Varda Valar: *spattttttt*
Varda Valar: *hands towels all around and returns the wet hammer to the conveyor belt*
top

Varda Valar: After-meeting!
Varda Valar: Free chat about anything. :-)
arpharazonv: A hammer for Ulmo now?
Varda Valar: They have a sense of humor. Think they might all be getting in on this.
Arien V: "nothing ever changes the sound of the sea" :-)
arpharazonv: Except the presence of great big sea monsters?
Varda Valar: *the chuckling of the waves*
Arien V: bah incomplete quote "nothing ever changes the sound of the surge of the sea"
Varda Valar: *the roaring of the breakers*
Varda Valar: Pretty
Arien V: :-)
Varda Valar: who are you quoting?
Varda Valar: Just a pleasur eto hear.
Arien V: http://www.celticlyricscorner.net/capercaillie/anataireachd.htm
Varda Valar: Thank you
Arien V: it is a well known gaelic song and beautiful :-)
Varda Valar: I don't see that line, but it is a sea song.
Arien V: and the song is an original poem of an old gaelic poet who returned to his home island after many years and the streets and houses had changed but walking along with his friend on the beach he reportedly said to hm " streets and houses and people change, but nothing ever changes the swelling sound of the sea"
Arien V: it might not be an exact quote but more like a paraphrase .. i think he uses "swelling sound" and not "surge " in the song
Varda Valar: Nice
Varda Valar: Gives him more "s" words. :-)

arpharazonv: So who's up for my personal gamin?
arpharazonv: *g
Varda Valar: Ready here.

arpharazonv: Let's start with flashgaming!
arpharazonv: http://www.onemorelevel.com/game/hexallin is a puzzle game where you have to switch around hexes with certain connections to have them all match up. Preferably in the least amount of steps, but that's really just trial and error, I'd say.
arpharazonv: http://www.onemorelevel.com/game/authentic_octopus_game is a platformer where you play an octopus, and can shoot (limited amounts) of ink.
arpharazonv: And http://www.kongregate.com/games/pixlwalkr/iridescent is another platformer where you play a catgirl trying to save her sister, with an interesting combat mechanic involving the throwing of colored gems.
arpharazonv: many "furry" jokes and puns are to be expected

arpharazonv: Now... Blizzard gaming.
arpharazonv: Heroes of the Storm: Not too much done, got Zagara another level, and she's rather on par with the other heroes now. Which means it'll go slow from here. Still doing all the dailies.
arpharazonv: Hearthstone: Got my quests done for "Standard" mode that came with the new expansion, and have since been falling back to my "Wild" decks. Less likely to see all those new C'thun decks, and it gives me a chance to continue to use my old decks.
arpharazonv: Got enough gold together to buy the last wing for the League of Explorers but haven't tried it yet. Seems to have some nice cards for rewards, though.
arpharazonv: Diablo 3: My new seasonal character is level 66 now, out of 70. Should reach 70 early next week. Chapter 2 of the journey complete now, and 3 well on its way, which means that so far I'm going a bit faster than last season. Had some problems with gear falling behind on my levelling, but a new weapon I paid for with blood shards fixed that for now. It might go smoother when I start gearing in legendary stuff.
arpharazonv: WoW: Finally managed to poke my horde alt a bit again, he's 22 now. I'm hoping to be able to give him more time in the near future. Blackfang claw farming is up to 1500/5000 now, and I got a few more bosses from mythic Blackrock Foundry checked on the monument-achievement. 4 more to go.
arpharazonv: We had a bit of fun at the start of tonight's raid, taking a picture all the way in Grizzlemaw in Northrend where we all showed off our new moose mounts in a groupshot. We did a similar thing with the kor'kron wolf in the previous expansion, and the tradition holds so far!
Arien V: I bet you ' ll make it  with all the achievements :-)
arpharazonv: I don't know, been a bit shorter on time recently, especially with the new Diablo 3 season. But if time is really running out I'll shift priority to a few that have to be done during this expansion.
arpharazonv: Also, I decided on a catform appearance for Legion, and as luck would have it, it's tied to the same achievement as the bearform I wanted. So very convenient, and I'll unlock them at the same time!
arpharazonv: And that's my news for this week!
Varda Valar: Thank you, Phar :-)
Arien V: thank you :-)

Arien V: bed time approaching fast here ^^
Arien V: getting very sleepy been up since six am this morning ;:)
Varda Valar: and there it goes... *woooosh*
Varda Valar: It's After-meeting. We're all done here. Rest well!
Arien V: thank you :-D , i ll see you next time and maybe in game somewhere :-)
Arien V: Namarie for now :-)
Varda Valar: Namarie!
arpharazonv: Namarie Arien!
Varda Valar: supper ::)
arpharazonv: enjoy!
Varda Valar: mmm, grilled pork chops, corn on the cob.
Varda Valar: Asparagus and beans
arpharazonv: Yum.
Varda Valar: Sons are both in here next table, gaming. :-)
Varda Valar: Good convo with you all
Varda Valar: and now, LotRO!
arpharazonv: Have fun!
Varda Valar: Life is good.
Varda Valar: Guar-an-teed.
arpharazonv: In case I crash and nobody's around to invite me back in...
arpharazonv: I hope you've got a copy.
Varda Valar: Think I'll make the Rivendell run!
Varda Valar: save now!
arpharazonv: Alright will try.
Varda Valar: The chat is over, it's just right for the save.
arpharazonv: Saving and sending transcript!
Varda Valar: Good luck!
Varda Valar: and I'll back you up.
