little in the books and a location in the LotRO game:

Varda Valar: Diablo 3:
Varda Valar: Season 8 is ending soon. If you're not finished
getting something you want this season, now is the time.
Varda Valar: StarCraft 2:
Now out: patch 3.9.0.
Ar-Pharazon-V: 12 days to finish 3 chapters. This'll go well...
Varda Valar: (A game thatg Fangorn plays more now)
Varda Valar: heh, good luck, Phar!
Varda Valar: Eowyn and Faramir play it too
Varda Valar: Bilbo and Sauron some as well.
Varda Valar: StarCraft/Broodwar:
played this past week by Fangorn and Varda
Varda Valar: Heroes of the Storm:

Varda Valar: Overwatch:
Varda Valar: A Christmas
event is going on in Overwatch as well: Winter Wonderland.
Varda Valar: Any other general gaming news?
top
Varda Valar: Tolkien:
Varda Valar: If you're here, please type Manwe
Varda Valar: Manwe
Ar-Pharazon-V: Manwe
Ar-Pharazon-V: Sorry, still in the middle of trying to fix some
settings and problems :-)
Varda Valar: ok, good luck with that!
Varda Valar: Aragorn said, “Deeds will not be less valiant
because they are unpraised.â€
Varda Valar: The Return of the King,
The Passing of the Grey Company
Ar-Pharazon-V: In other words, don't worry about what everyone else
thinks?
Varda Valar: It means do what is good even if it will never be praised
or known.
Varda Valar: We pick up the litter beside the trash can and put it in
the can, although no one else will ever know, because it is right.
Varda Valar: The Rangers did a lot of great deeds, protecting Hobbits
and Men against horrors that would have frozen the blood of the
protected with fear, and it was never known to those folk.
Ar-Pharazon-V: Ah, so, don't worry if nobody else cares :-)
Ar-Pharazon-V: Or knows.
Varda Valar: If it's right to do, it's right to do, whether or not
praise is involved. Aye.
Varda Valar: You know. :-)
Ar-Pharazon-V: Right :-)
Varda Valar: Sam was like that too. He did a lot to help, even though
even Frodo would never know.
Varda Valar: Who else might have had a similar feeling?
Varda Valar: How about Faramir?
Ar-Pharazon-V: Was thinking Faramir, but then again he still cared a
lot about what his father thought.
Varda Valar: He led the southern rangers, with very little praise for
any of them.
Ar-Pharazon-V: So that still took priority in some cases.
Varda Valar: And yet, Faramir would do what he believed to be right
even if his father didn't like it.
Varda Valar: That was one reason his father was angry with him.
Ar-Pharazon-V: I suppose nobody's perfect :-)
Varda Valar: Right again. :-)
Varda Valar: It's a form of heroism. Who else showed it?
Ar-Pharazon-V: Hmm, tough one...
Varda Valar: Any of the Fellowship knew they could do great deeds
without it ever getting back to anyone else about what they did.
Varda Valar: They all intended to go into Mordor with Frodo, despite
almost certain death.
Ar-Pharazon-V: But they knew of each other, and they knew some folks
back home would know, like Elrond.
Varda Valar: The stories of all the great things they did on the way
would likely never be known.
Ar-Pharazon-V: Though yes, the details would be lost.
Varda Valar: The overarching thing of going there was known, aye. But
were they mostly cowering in back or out there really being heroic? No
one would know.
Ar-Pharazon-V: I suppose Merry and Pippin both went on heroic military
adventures *hoping* that nobody would notice them...
Varda Valar: How about the healers who helped on the battlefields? We
don't know who most of them were, but they had to do amazing feats to
reach those in need.
Varda Valar: heh, point.
Ar-Pharazon-V: Sorry, I'm rather grasping at straws here. Maybe you've
had more time to think about multiple interpretations than I have :-)
Varda Valar: Most likely. :-)
Varda Valar: And not distracted by a computer giving fits.
Ar-Pharazon-V: Nah, that's pretty much done, I left WoW too.
Varda Valar: Arien is also distracted. Shall we move to After-meeting?
Ar-Pharazon-V: Just trying to think of people who did heroic stuff
while not expecting anyone to know about it.
Ar-Pharazon-V: Assuming I'm interpreting it right.
Varda Valar: That's exactly right.
Varda Valar: Tough, as we may not have known about it either. :-)
Ar-Pharazon-V: Heh, like those healers.
Ar-Pharazon-V: Well, the Grey Company entered the paths of the dead
while telling as few people as possible, even though they may not have
necessarily come out?
Ar-Pharazon-V: Which is possibly the original context of the quote.
Varda Valar: They were even considered stupidly suicidal to do it.
Varda Valar: Not exactly praise.
Ar-Pharazon-V: Indeed :-)
Varda Valar: Eowyn hid her identity and went to war hoping to do great
deeds.
Ar-Pharazon-V: Fatty Bolger offered to stay behind and keep up the
distraction, even though nobody knew except a handful of hobbits who
were likely not to make it anyway.
Varda Valar: Aye
Varda Valar: Gandalf did his work even being considered a "storm crow"
of bad tidings.
Arien V (AriehnV) has left the room.
Ar-Pharazon-V: Beren and Luthien took on a likely fruitless and
suicidal quest they were not expected to return from, but they were
comfortable enough with each other knowing it.
Ar-Pharazon-V: The blue wizards, if rumors are right, headed east to
sabotage some stuff and possibly make it harder for Sauron to get
reinforcements, with barely any word making it to the main fronts in
the west.
Varda Valar: Aye, to both
Varda Valar: No one even knew for sure whose side the Blue Wizards were
on, or what they were doing
Varda Valar: The ents went on their march even knowing they could
probably all die and it would not matter to others
Varda Valar: Lobelia gave the Ruffians grief even though other hobbits
didn't like her and she didn't expect their praise for it.
Arien V (AriehnV) has entered the room.
Arien V: uh sorry closed wrong window
Varda Valar: It's hard for a Vala to do anything unnoticed. :-)
Ar-Pharazon-V: Aiyata
Varda Valar: Sneaky windows. :-)
Arien V: indeed :-)
Varda Valar: Beleg went to help Turin and never told anyone the
mistreatment he took from Turin's men before their boss's return. Yet
he remained steadfast in helping Tuirn.
Varda Valar: Finrod, for all he knew, killing the werewolf in the cell
to protect Beren would never be known.
Ar-Pharazon-V: Aye, Beren might as well have been the target the next
day.
Varda Valar: Aye, but not this day. :-)
Varda Valar: Hold off the evil one more day...
Varda Valar: Prevent the evil from occurring right there where the
person is at that moment. Because it's the thing to do.
Varda Valar: *reaches for a gavel*
Varda Valar: *the gavel streaks to the hammerpad that rises up to meet
it half-way*
Varda Valar: *whomp!*
Varda Valar: *brilliant fireworks*
top
Varda Valar: After-meeting!
Ar-Pharazon-V: That's the key, isn't it? Doing things because they're
the right things, not worrying about whether it ups your reputation or
something :-)
Varda Valar: Exactly
Varda Valar: *gavel and hammer-pad are fine and return to their places
on their own*
Varda Valar: Pro-active hammer-pad
Ar-Pharazon-V: Magnetic.
Ar-Pharazon-V: Well, I guess I could give my gaming news already.
Varda Valar: Might as well.
Varda Valar: Boomerang? :-)
Arien V: ooh by the way i did a fun ICC heroic run with Helm last
Sunday?
Varda Valar: O nice, Arien :-)
Ar-Pharazon-V: ICC's still fun :-)
Ar-Pharazon-V: Any new pets?
Arien V: yes i did get a blood blob thing from the vampire i think
Ar-Pharazon-V: Blood blob comes from young Saurfang, but grats!
Ar-Pharazon-V: Just correcting it for if people wanted to know how to
find it ;-)
Ar-Pharazon-V: Rrright, if there's nothing else, I'll get started!
Ar-Pharazon-V: Flashgaming!
Ar-Pharazon-V: http://www.kongregate.com/games/valklamp/contact
is the first. Guide your ball/circle through a field of circles
crossing the screen like stars or asteroids, collect those of your
color. I have yet to determine what it actually takes to lose a level,
because the amount you can get hit by the wrong ones seems to vary, but
best to avoid em anyway!
Ar-Pharazon-V: Try to get as far as possible, or change the difficulty
as you like. Otherwise, really simple game.
Ar-Pharazon-V: http://www.onemorelevel.com/game/hellsforge
is the second game, a side shooter (though with enough bullets to put
it near bullet hell territory) with upgrades. As far as I can figure,
you're playing a zombie or robot type thing escaping from a test
facility.. the story escapes me a bit :-)
Ar-Pharazon-V: http://www.onemorelevel.com/game/plumbers_creed
finally, a cross between Mario and Assassin's Creed. Climb buildings,
jump on enemies, hide in haystacks, and basically getting across the
levels in various ways :-)
Ar-Pharazon-V: Oh and you can throw knives too, to make it easier ;-)
Ar-Pharazon-V: Blizzard gaming!
Ar-Pharazon-V: Diablo 3:
Chapter 1 of the season journey done, but as we found out earlier, I've
got 12 days to finish the next 3. Guess I'd better make it a priority
during the holidays!
Ar-Pharazon-V: Hearthstone's
progressing boringly, though it's fun to have to remake my decks for
varying quests now, rather than stick to the same ones.
Ar-Pharazon-V: Brawl this week was themed for the expansion, and the 3
gangs of Gadgetzan, where you play with one type vs one of the other 2,
with one of the classes tied to those gangs. Lots of new dialogue from
the leaders, which makes it amusing, and premade decks with expansion
cards.
Ar-Pharazon-V: Heroes of the Storm:
There's a new quest to play 25 games for Winter Veil, but with 2 games
a day that should be no problem for me. The latest patch reintroduced
the Haunted Mines map, and the brawl for this week is that exact map
but with random heroes to choose from. Not much special, and each time
I managed to grab one I already was familiar with.
Ar-Pharazon-V: Got Rexxar to level 4 as well, but that's still easy :-)
He can be a bit difficult to play, requires practice. His pet bear dies
too much under my control...
Ar-Pharazon-V: WoW:
Ar-Pharazon-V: New pet from Ulduar for me, Hodir's Winter Rageling.
Fitting for this time of year!
Ar-Pharazon-V: Appearance hunting is slow, only a few items from Heroic
Hellfire Ramparts.
Ar-Pharazon-V: Weekly quest is 4 mythic dungeons. Bit tricky, bit
time-consuming, but not as bad as last time, fortunately. I'm a bit
more geared now!
Ar-Pharazon-V: Finally got some epic trousers as well, the only slot I
still had at low ilevel.
Ar-Pharazon-V: From those 4 mythics, that is.
Ar-Pharazon-V: For raids, had my first shot at mythic Emerald Nightmare
too. But we didn't get first boss beyond 8% health. Making progress
though!
Ar-Pharazon-V: For story quests, I haven't had much time. Went through
the 5-man instance in Val'sharah to wrap up the Xavius/Malfurion
storyline, and I delivered the Tears of Elune to Dalaran. So basically
wrapping up a few things before I move into the class campaign, which
I'd really hoped to get some progress on. Oh well.
Ar-Pharazon-V: Did some Winter Veil stuff as well, camping out for the
Greatfather Winter spawn in Highmountain for 500 class hall resources
(quite useful!) and killing the Greench a couple of times. But
otherwise there's not much new for this year. 2 toys, one of which is
confirmed to be in a present we'll get later on, and the second's of
unknown origin.
Ar-Pharazon-V: Probably also a present, or someone'd have gotten one by
now.
Ar-Pharazon-V: I get the feeling I'm forgetting something, what was
it...
Ar-Pharazon-V: Ah yes, I got 3 more Warcraft
books, The Last Guardian, Lord of the Clans and Rise of the
Horde, in their new Blizzard Publishing editions because they were out
of print before. They're a bit bigger than the paperbacks and pockets I
have from books later on, but just makes it easier to read them ;-)
Ar-Pharazon-V: And that's my news for this week!
Varda Valar: Thank you, Phar :-)
Varda Valar: Sounds like plenty of reading, too
Ar-Pharazon-V: Yep!
perseid28 has entered the room.
Arien V: Aiya Lenwe!
Ar-Pharazon-V: Aiya!
Varda Valar: Aiya Lenwe :-)
perseid28: Aiya folks :) I figured I'd drop in and say hello
Varda Valar: Marigold just suggested Tom Bombadil by his nature.
Varda Valar: Hello!
Arien V: ah our unsung heros ^^ , good thinking from Marigold :-)
Ar-Pharazon-V: Ah yes :-)
Arien V: and .. a little bit .. Lobelia Sackville-baggins :-)
Varda Valar: aye :-)
Arien V: Sharkys people didnt expect no resistance from her i think
.certainly not
Arien V: my hero just now will be THE PILLOW !
Arien V: accompanied by its faithful companion .. THE BLANKET
perseid28: lol
Arien V: Namarie my friends and i ll see you maybe next sunday if there
is a meeting then?
Varda Valar: There will be a meeting [Note: very, very short meeting.]
Varda Valar: The hobbits gave
Varda Valar: loyalty to a king they didn't know.
perseid28: Namarie Arien!
Ar-Pharazon-V: Namarie!
Arien V: all right :-) Namarie!
Arien V (AriehnV) has left the room.
Varda Valar: So the hobbits giving their loyalty without expectation of
reward were protected by the descendants of the king.
Varda Valar: Namarie Arien
Varda Valar: Eru knows :-)
Varda Valar: Marigold suggests:
Varda Valar: With a stretch, the participants of the challenge at the
Black Gate would qualify, since presumably they (and all of ME) might
have been destroyed...
Varda Valar: She says:
Varda Valar: pretty thankless endeavor, if the Ring weren't destroyed
on time.
Ar-Pharazon-V: Such is the nature of a decoy.
Varda Valar: FaraM
Varda Valar: sorry for the cross typing while riding through
monsters :-)
Varda Valar: Interesting about the decoys
Varda Valar: back
Ar-Pharazon-V: Aiyata
Varda Valar: Hantal :-)
