Before-meeting
You have just entered room "valarguildmeetingplace."
Eonwe Valar has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: Heya :}
ArPharazonV: *gasp*
ArPharazonV: Aiya :-)
Eonwe Valar: Vacation, so I couldn't miss the meeting :}
ArPharazonV: Great!
Eonwe Valar: How have you been?
ArPharazonV: Good! Not much new, just WoWing along, as well as adding Heroes of the Storm to my playlist.
ArPharazonV: Still raiding for the coming 10 minutes, though, so can't talk much yet ;-)
ArPharazonV: How're you?
Eonwe Valar: Pretty good, still working nights and weekends obviously :} Gave Heroes of the Storm a try. It's a nice distraction for when I don't feel like WoW, hehe.
ArPharazonV: hehe
Eonwe Valar: Better than Hearthstone, imo.
Eonwe Valar: Never got into that.
ArPharazonV: Playing that myself, it's fun to collect and do the quests and level the classes.
ArPharazonV: The actual gameplay.. could do without, but some fights can be fun :P
Eonwe Valar: hehe
Eonwe Valar: I was never big on the card battle genre.
ArPharazonV: Me neither, but the collecting's good fun! ;-)
Eonwe Valar: Fair enough :}
VardaValar1 has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya Phar and Eonwe :-)
Eonwe Valar: I couldn't even muster the 3 wins for the hearthsteed before I decided not to put myself through it again :}
ArPharazonV: aiya
Eonwe Valar: Heya Varda :}
Eonwe Valar: Vacation, so I get to come to today's meeting :}
VardaValar1: Very good!
Eonwe Valar: Of course Blizzard had to tease me with SC2 Legacy of the Void prepurchase, only for the Collector's Edition to not yet be available, hehe.
ArPharazonV: Actually the physical CE was available here in the Dutch webshop I always order mine. So I ordered it there.
ArPharazonV: Was supposed to come with a mailed beta key but they might still be processing it.
Eonwe Valar: My local shops don't seem to be offering it yet. I go through Best Buy or Gamestop, neither of which have it on their website yet.
ArPharazonV: Unless they're talking.. like.. physical mail.
Eonwe Valar: Hmm, Gamestop now has it as a whislist item.
Eonwe Valar: *wishlist
VardaValar1: (Any signs of Sunshine?)
VardaValar1: (Might not be home yet)
ArPharazonV: She's not been on bnet for 3 days, it seems.
Eonwe Valar: I suppose I should send out invites to those on my list.
VardaValar1: Still traveling maybe
GwaihirValar has entered the room.
PallandoValar has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya Eagle and Blue Wizard :-)
Eonwe Valar: Invites sent to: Pallando, Farmer Maggot, and Dagnir.
PallandoValar: Aiya
ArPharazonV: Aiya

VardaValar1: Elen sila lumenn' omentielvo!
VardaValar1: Membership:
VardaValar1: Thanks for coming during your time off. :-)
VardaValar1: Feel free to send suggestions on what you'd like to have brought up during the meeting.
Eonwe Valar: Aha, looks like Dagnir was actually dropped. Guess I should update my AIM Guild Member's List.
VardaValar1: If the person actually shows up, might invite anyway. :-)
VardaValar1: Scouting help also welcome. :-)

VardaValar1: Web:
VardaValar1: We have new artwork up from the Bohemian Weasel-(T):
VardaValar1: "Plains of RohanLegolas. Éomer asks, ‘What business does an Elf, a Dwarf, and a Man have in the Riddermark?’
VardaValar1: Eonwe put up Gaming news, we'll get to next. :-)
VardaValar1: Gaming:
VardaValar1: (How formal!)
ArPharazonV: Not my place to criticize anyone's art, really, but Legolas looks a bit odd on that one.
ArPharazonV: Might be the nose.
VardaValar1: Eonwe, would you like to take this one?
Eonwe Valar: Sure :}
VardaValar1: Hard to be perfect on all art, agreed. Have to use photos.
Eonwe Valar: Still better than I can draw, hehe.

Gaming:
Eonwe Valar: LotRO:
Eonwe Valar: There's a Developer Diary on episodic content, focusing on the current episodic content involving Bingo Boffin, and another one on cosmetic weapons.

Eonwe Valar: Warcraft:
Eonwe Valar: More information about using and having the WoW Token was posted.
Eonwe Valar: Check out the latest hotfixes.

VardaValar1: I'd like to mention some more on LotRO after you're done with the other.
Eonwe Valar: My apologies, go ahead.
VardaValar1: Sorry, my mistake, should have said something earlier.
VardaValar1: Bingo's story has started already, in a new area near the vault in Michel Delving.
VardaValar1: At the Bounder's Statue nearby we now have a batch of lovely landscaping, including award stones for each server's contribution, including Landroval.
VardaValar1: We had a surprise event today from +Moose.
VardaValar1: He put up a batch of squirrels and moose at a house of one of the players.
VardaValar1: No one believed the player at first. +Moose was at the house smoking.
VardaValar1: Killing the squirrels got a person sent to Orthanc. :-)
Eonwe Valar: Moose and squirrel?.... ;}
VardaValar1: It was an amusing bit, not announced. That's it from me.
VardaValar1: +Moose is the developer's name. He put out a lot of boxes that the house owner opened and squirrels popped out.
VardaValar1: Later moose came walking out as if from the house door.
VardaValar1: I'm done. :-)
Eonwe Valar: Thanks :}
Eonwe Valar: Sounds like something of a Rocky and Bullwinkle nod there, which is what I was getting at :}
VardaValar1: Aye. Gorlim suggested we go as Boris and Natasha. :-)
Eonwe Valar: Might've helped if I'd capitlaized the 's' in "Squirrel" :}
Eonwe Valar: hehehe

Eonwe Valar: Diablo 3:
Eonwe Valar: Some new content is coming in 2.3.0. See the Preview of the Ruins of Sescheron.

Eonwe Valar: Hearthstone:
Eonwe Valar: Coming this August: The Grand Tournament. See about the Hero Powers too.

Eonwe Valar: Heroes of the Storm:
ArPharazonV: More cards to collect \o/
Eonwe Valar: There's a new patch with a new hero, Leoric.
Eonwe Valar: Haven't tried him yet, don't think he's on the free rotation, but the release video makes him look interesting. Then again, the release video is supposed to do that, so... :}
VardaValar1: :-)
Eonwe Valar: This concludes my gaming news.
ArPharazonV: He's not technically in the free rotation from the character screen, but I think you can try him from the main screen.
VardaValar1: Did anyone else have any general gaming news from their games? Eve or other?
Eonwe Valar: The demo map for heroes, aye.

ArPharazonV: New Hearthstone Brawl is Sunwell-themed, for this weekend.
ArPharazonV: Meaning players have maximum mana from turn 1 onward. Makes it a really different playstyle, but one that encourages legendary cards because those are usually very mana-costly... and I don't have many of those ;-)
ArPharazonV: And WoW weekend is pvp battlegrounds, with double honor and a quest for winning 4 battlegrounds. Go do it if you haven't!
ArPharazonV: And that's it for general news
VardaValar1: Thank you
VardaValar1: Any other business, news, or suggestions before we switch to Tolkien?
VardaValar1: Did anyone else have a suggestion for a Tolkien topic, or a Tolkien moment?
top

VardaValar1: Tolkien:
ArPharazonV: (testing)
ArPharazonV: Yep, still here.
VardaValar1: Elf dwarf relationships, not just whether they would have had romantic types.
ArPharazonV: Ah.
VardaValar1: o dear
VardaValar1: I was probably typing in the wrong place!
ArPharazonV: Probably!
VardaValar1: Yep, there it all is
VardaValar1: In Eonwe's box. /facepalm
ArPharazonV: Easy to copy over!
Eonwe Valar: SO let's start at the beginning then :}
VardaValar1: Hello again. The copy/paste died horribly. trying again.
ArPharazonV: One line at a time...
VardaValar1:

EonweValar: If I didn't think it'd be terribly short and terribly dull, I'd say Dwarf/Elf relations, including relationships. Was suddenly thinking of the movie thing they did there with.. Kili was it? And that what's her name... Tauriel I think.
Varda Valar: That's right
Varda Valar: The actress that played Tauriel is in Ant-man, fun trivia. Saw it yesterday. :-)
EonweValar: hehe
EonweValar: Cool :}
Varda Valar: Fun to watch. Two extras after the main show, warning.
VardaValar1: One not far in, other after credits.
EonweValar: Funny that I remember the actresses' name and only somewhat sure about the character, heh.
Varda Valar: I like the actress just fine.
EonweValar: *actress'
Varda Valar: Hard to think there could be a dwarf and elf romance, nothing even hinted at it in the books. Maybe they hushed it up.
VardaValar1: Dwarves got off on the wrong foot to start with, being adopted, and not supposed to be showing up ahead of the First-born Elves. Had to be put to sleep until a reasonable time. Would have to be Third-born, sort of.
EonweValar: On one hand, I'd think if it were possible, Tolkien would've mentioned it at some point in all his writings and letters.
Varda Valar: Dwarves were secretive about such things; elves would have been embarrassed. :-)
EonweValar: On the other, he may have never considered it a possibility and it may somehow have just never come up.
VardaValar1: Mainly, the longevity thing would be a huge barrier.
EonweValar: hehe
Varda Valar: People that lived underground had a tough time hanging around with people of the trees.
Varda Valar: They'd like different things, be hard to be compatible for more than five minutes.
EonweValar: Aye.
EonweValar: That's the only topic coming to mind :}
Varda Valar: There's plenty more on the subject.
Varda Valar: Thingol was aided by the dwarves with weapons and armor
EonweValar: Well, I can put the topic out there then :}

VardaValar1: Ok, done. You can see why we love Phar's fair copy!
VardaValar1: It goes into tables.
ArPharazonV: Myes, even Legolas and Gimli's friendship wasn't based on common interests, other than a disliking of orcs etc. They had to be convinced to visit the places the other was very fond of.
VardaValar1: True, Phar
ArPharazonV: Still, plenty of Elves living underground, especially of Sindarin origin.
ArPharazonV: They might share secrets of living masonry :-)
VardaValar1: They had the safe places of the King's hall for Doriath and Mirkwood. But plenty lived outside.
Eonwe Valar: Doriath, Nargothrond, Thranduil's Halls that we have no name for...
ArPharazonV: Those are what came to mind, yes.
VardaValar1: Could be. May have learned a lot from dwarves at times.
Eonwe Valar: Er, Menegroth rather than Doriath.
VardaValar1: oops, pardon
ArPharazonV: The dwarves might've actually enjoyed their stay in Thranduil's place if they hadn't been locked up.
Eonwe Valar: Doriath was the land.
ArPharazonV: Yeah, I knew Doriath was the land but couldn't think of the cave.
VardaValar1: Bilbo was an underground dweller too, so he may have liked Thranduil's Halls and would have been much happier not having to sneak around.
Eonwe Valar: I was correcting myself, since I mentioned Doriath rather than Menegroth with Nargothrond :}
VardaValar1: The silmarils came between the dwarves and Thingol, with the commissioned necklace.
ArPharazonV: Greed, so poisonous.
ArPharazonV: On both sides, really.
VardaValar1: True
Eonwe Valar: The Silmarilli were wound into the fate of Beleriand in a pretty bad way too. Didn't help.,
VardaValar1: Thanks Eonwe, the necklace was called the Nauglamir
ArPharazonV: And with the Sindar in Mirkwood being descended from Doriath, there's no wonder they still distrusted each other.
VardaValar1: So the silmaril not only hurt elvish relations, but those with the elves and dwarves.
VardaValar1: Right
Eonwe Valar: Aye.
ArPharazonV: I wonder if the Dwarves of Erebor were actually more outgoing at the start - there might even have been a sort of friendship between Dwarves and Silvans before the Sindar arrived.
Eonwe Valar: Oh, if only someone from the royal Dwarven line could fall in love with an Elf of the Greenwood and make it all right!.. Ok, done giving the movies a hard time now, hehe.
VardaValar1: We don't hear much of any relationship there. What would it have been?
VardaValar1: hehehe
ArPharazonV: Well, Erebor wasn't very far from Mirkwood. They might've traded food, military stuffs... if I recall, the mithril vest was made for an Elf prince originally.
VardaValar1: Mim of the Petty-dwarves and his two sons were not liked much by the other dwarves,such as Longbeards, but the memory of their being wiped out might still have rankled.
VardaValar1: Correct on the vest
ArPharazonV: And both would've traded extensively with Dale.
VardaValar1: Have to wonder how far back that would be for young elf princes. Doriath?
VardaValar1: Apparently got handed on around as they outgrew it
ArPharazonV: Assuming it's before the relationship got soured with the Sindar's arrival (bringing the tale of the Nauglamir with them)
ArPharazonV: "prince" might've been a Silvan title at the time.
ArPharazonV: Alternately, the Dwarves might've meant it as a welcome gift for the Sindar arriving, before coming to the conclusion that those Sindar didn't like them very much.
VardaValar1: I'm trying to think who could possibly have been considered a Silvan prince. All I found was that they wanted Sindar to rule them mainly to be teachers.
ArPharazonV: Which might explain why the vest was still in Erebor's hoard.
VardaValar1: The last possible elven prince to fit it had grown up by the time of the story.
ArPharazonV: It might have been a very young Legolas, but that might have been worth mentioning in Moria.
ArPharazonV: It could even be a young Thranduil.
VardaValar1: Legolas was very quiet about anything to do with his being a prince or related to Thranduil. All the time.
Eonwe Valar: As I recall, "prince" isn't a title that by necessity indicates being a son of a king. in-world example: Faramir as Prince of Ithilien.
ArPharazonV: Aye. So it might've been a Silvan.
ArPharazonV: Hmm, moment, gonna hit the Gurubashi arena fight real quick...
Eonwe Valar: We don't really have alot to go on there, just "young elf-prince."
VardaValar1: Wasn't it plural? I should go back and re-read.
VardaValar1: Maybe. I just can't think of any Silvan it could have been at all, or why they would use something not leather.
Eonwe Valar: No, "some young elf-prince long ago" is how it reads.
VardaValar1: Thanks
Eonwe Valar: That is a fair assessment. The Silvans had come to the Last Alliance lightly armored, and paid dearly for it.
Eonwe Valar: Their mode of combat didn't translate well to the battlefield.
ArPharazonV: Aw, didn't win... I'll try again in 3 hours.
VardaValar1: Good luck Phar
ArPharazonV: In any case, the vest indicates that there was something of a trading agreement, if not friendship, going on between dwarf and elf.
VardaValar1: I'm going to call it here, let us go into free chat.
VardaValar1: Aye, trading is the best way to wage war. ;-)
ArPharazonV: Still not sure why it was in Erebor at the time though. As I said, result of hostilities maybe.
VardaValar1: May have been moved around in storage, waiting for another young elf prince or whatever that could afford to wear it. Rental?
Eonwe Valar: The bigger question is: was it made in Erebor, or one of the things they salvaged as they fled from Moria?
ArPharazonV: Oh, yes, it could've come from Moria. The materials did at least.
VardaValar1: It was tremendously valuable, probably tried to save it.
Eonwe Valar: Doesn't seem like they would've had much time for grabbing too much from Moria when they fled,... aye, materials are the most likely thing they would've been able to bring.
Eonwe Valar: As I recall, Khazad Dum wasn't the only place to find mithril, just the most abundant.
ArPharazonV: Could've been reserves in Erebor at one point, then.
VardaValar1: They might not have moved it during fleeing. Erebor was closer to the elves
ArPharazonV: Or the northern mountains, even.
ArPharazonV: Before the dragons pushed em out.
Eonwe Valar: "long ago" is a bit tough to gauge, if we're going here by Hobbit standards.
VardaValar1: If not Moria silver, could have made it even more valuable
Eonwe Valar: For Dwarves, it wasn't that long ago that they moved to Erebor. A few hundred years. For Elves, that's not "long ago" either.
ArPharazonV: Depends on whether it was distinguishable from it, Varda.
VardaValar1: Dior's sons?
VardaValar1: Maker's stamp, just common knowledge maybe
VardaValar1: Feanorian's were adults.
VardaValar1: Thingol had a daughter
Eonwe Valar: OK, actually, maybe it was "long ago" by Dwarves standards. Checked the years to be certain, we're looking at TA1999 approx., so roughly a thousand years.
VardaValar1: ah ok
ArPharazonV: A "prince" is a vague enough term. No need to assume it's someone who came from the west, it might just have been Silvans using the title while out of touch with their cousins in Beleriand.
Eonwe Valar: That's about 5-7 generations of Dwarves roughly, given they live about 200-250 years.
ArPharazonV: It's easy to forget that the Silvans weren't just stagnating in Mirkwood while the war with Morgoth was going on, but had their own histories and bloodlines.
Eonwe Valar: Aye, we just don't get to hear about them.
VardaValar1: The other problem is that they were wearers of leather armor, not likely to blow a ton of money for a short term piece of armor.
Eonwe Valar: But the question is, at what point would a Silvan have resorted to mithril armour?
VardaValar1: Had to be a very important life to save.
ArPharazonV: Might have been symbolic. Ceremonial. Celebrating a friendship or trade agreement, or form a gift of sorts.
Eonwe Valar: Fair enough.
VardaValar1: Not a set of twins, or it would insult one or the other, or there were two suits.
ArPharazonV: Expensive gift, but still.
VardaValar1: Quite a gift!
VardaValar1: Seems as if they would want to gift something that would be around a long time.
Eonwe Valar: Dwarves would of course be looking at the functional side of it, doesn't mean it would get used.\
ArPharazonV: Agreed.
Eonwe Valar: Or the intended owner could've been the six-fingered Elf. *cough* And when he came for it but demanded it at only one tenth the agreed price...
ArPharazonV: I'm assuming that's a reference of sorts.
Eonwe Valar: Sorry, Princess Bride.
ArPharazonV: Still need to watch that at one point. But I don't remember ever seeing it in the tv guide, seems weird for such a popular movie.
Eonwe Valar: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDlZ_SXx5gA starts at about 1:18 for the information you need to get the reference.
VardaValar1: Thanks
ArPharazonV: Thank you :-)
Eonwe Valar: MP :}
VardaValar1: *whangs hammer, fortunately missing a sixth finger since it's not present*
top

VardaValar1: After-meeting!
VardaValar1: Free chat.
Eonwe Valar: :}
Eonwe Valar: It's a fun swordfight to watch, hehe.
ArPharazonV: Watching the entire video :-)
Eonwe Valar: :}
Eonwe Valar: In the extras, I think it said about that swordfight that all the choreographers had to go by (either in the script or from the book it was based on) was "the most awesome swordfight ever" or something like that, hehe.
Eonwe Valar: *Extras on the bluray.
ArPharazonV: Hehe. Reminds me of the LotR scene in Moria where all the script said was that they were going down the stairs.
ArPharazonV: And we know how that turned out!
Eonwe Valar: hehe
Eonwe Valar: Well my friends, I must call it here. Other tasks beckon for my attention, but I'm glad I got to make it to the meeting and see you all :}
ArPharazonV: Namarie!
ArPharazonV: Great to see you here again.
ArPharazonV: Still free next week?
Eonwe Valar: No, next week I'll be working again.
ArPharazonV: Aw.
Eonwe Valar: Aye.
Eonwe Valar: But it's better than the alternative, heh.
VardaValar1: (I am not left handed either.)
ArPharazonV: hehe
VardaValar1: I'll need to make supper, all these hungry guys.
Eonwe Valar: That line wouldn't work for me: "I am not left--wait yes I am! Do-over!" :}
VardaValar1: hehe
ArPharazonV: Could work if you fought with your right hand first.
ArPharazonV: And then said "But I *am* left-handed!"
Eonwe Valar: Of course :}
Eonwe Valar: Take care all, have fun, and see you in e-mails or on the Forum hopefully, if not in-game :}
VardaValar1: Maybe all the above. :-)
VardaValar1: Namarie!
VardaValar1 has left the room.
Eonwe Valar has left the room.
ArPharazonV: Namarie both!

ArPharazonV: Well then. For transcript's benefit, and those still present but silent, I'll just share my personal gaming news.
ArPharazonV: For flashgaming I'll give you http://www.onemorelevel.com/game/bouncy_and_monsto a cutesy physics platformer where you have to remove obstacles and use fans to move a character and collect stars.
ArPharazonV: As well as http://www.kongregate.com/games/DigYourOwnGrave/vector-runner wherein you need to steer your "ship" around obstacles and collect powerups, while lasting as long as possible.
ArPharazonV: I'll mention for Diablo 3 that in an effort to get 100 seasonal achievement points (and get a new banner symbol for it), since they drastically reduced seasonal achievements in season 3, I took my first few steps into Torment difficulty, while gearing up my character with level 70 gear in the process.
ArPharazonV: It's not too bad, really. I feel like I've accomplished what I want to do in this season, and season 4 should not be too far away anyway, but I might put some more effort in season 4, especially with the new "hero's journey" feature they're going to bring in.
ArPharazonV: Which requires a good amount of torment/endgame activity if I want to get the pet for it, I think.
ArPharazonV: Heroes of the Storm:
ArPharazonV: Haven't tried Leoric myself, yet, but have still been doing at least one daily match for the treasure goblin gold. Was in need of a Warrior hero from the D3 franchise to combine two daily quests, and ended up buying Diablo. Not very good at him yet, though.
ArPharazonV: Hearthstone: Still all at 35. Won a brawl this weekend by making a priest deck with some of the heaviest cards I could find, which worked quite well once I got past a few murloc rushing opponents. Maybe I should've tried that as well...
ArPharazonV: I'm now saving my gold for the expansion, and have enough to buy 5 packs already.
ArPharazonV: WoW: Got several projects going on again! Built myself a mage tower, and started collecting waystones for the 500 achievement, as well as opening waygates in several key positions to make travelling easier.
ArPharazonV: Took a shot at collecting some Music Rolls for the garrison jukebox, which is why I was poking the gurubashi arena earlier; one of them can be looted from the central chest. Difficult to get, though.
ArPharazonV: Still fishing for Pat's Lucky Coins, with which I can buy items from Nat Pagle himself. Got a pet from him already, a little Sea Calf, and now saving for the mount and second pet. Should be done in 2-3 weeks at my current rate.
ArPharazonV: Also finally got the last pet I needed from the old Mount Hyjal raid instance (a little ghoul), so now our little party is done there. Just a bunch of Fragments from the Reliquary boss in Black Temple to go, which we'll continue to try every monday.
ArPharazonV: Normal raiding, not much progress, though we did get a few attempts on Mannoroth, normal difficulty. After him, just Archimonde left.
ArPharazonV: Also finally did the Ring of Blood quest in Nagrand, which was shorter than I expected... just a couple of arena bosses, similar to questlines in previous expansions. But shorter.
ArPharazonV: And that's my gaming news!
ArPharazonV: Oh, yes, and I'll mention that I did my first battlegrounds this expansion for the weekend quest. Bit tough without much pvp gear, but doable, especially the bigger maps seem to usually be won by the Alliance faction. Got half of the victories needed through Isle of Conquest, for example.
ArPharazonV: (half being 2)
ArPharazonV: Oh, and as an aside I'll mention that Torment 1 difficulty in Diablo 3 doesn't hit that hard if you have some level 70 rare pieces of gear (and maybe a few legendaries) but you do need to watch where you're standing. But the mobs have a huge amount of health. Some bosses took about 5 minutes each.
ArPharazonV: So don't go there unless you're prepared to spend several minutes clicking and staring just to kill one thing ;-)

PallandoValar: Hi, sorry, was making/losing isk in Eve by the billions.
PallandoValar: I'm overall up, so yay.
ArPharazonV: haha
PallandoValar: went sorta -+++---++
PallandoValar: Gwaihir.. there's a name I haven't seen in awhile
PallandoValar: Oh, this week I might do some more conversion of that story
ArPharazonV: What story was that again?
PallandoValar: http://rustbucket.net/leithian/index.html
ArPharazonV: Ah! Yes. I remember that.
PallandoValar: I've been cleaning up the formatting
PallandoValar: made 1.8b in 7 hours.. not terrible. not great, but not terrible.
ArPharazonV: in real life, that'd be great!
PallandoValar: sure :-P
PallandoValar: I coul dhave spent $30 and just bought that much isk, so not so great when you convert it that way..
ArPharazonV: hehe
PallandoValar: would have almost doubled that but I made a bad call
ArPharazonV: Aw.
PallandoValar: sorry, almost tripled
ArPharazonV: Even worse!
PallandoValar: ..that made me sadder
PallandoValar: heh
ArPharazonV: Saving and sending transcript.
