Mother's Day (in Before-meeting and After-meeting)
Durin-(V)'s first meeting and
his "few words" speech, one of the shortest ever. In Phar's transcript,
Durin's name shows up as his email, but his display name is Durin (V)
so we've replaced that as Phar requested.

Before-meeting
You have just entered room
"valarguildmeetingplace."
VardaValar1 has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya Phar :-)
ArPharazonV: Aiya!
VardaValar1: Mother's Day, so a lot of folks will be busy.
ArPharazonV: Guess so :-)
VardaValar1: I could pop into LotRO and check.
ArPharazonV: I'll see if I can find Arien on bnet.
VardaValar1: Just sliding in from double Mother's Day over here
VardaValar1: Thanks
ArPharazonV: Looks like she's on horde!
VardaValar1: hah!
ArPharazonV: allright, passed a message :-)
VardaValar1: I should hop on my troll, but it would be the wrong place
and the program and authenticator are in a different state. But this is
May!
ArPharazonV: Hah!
ArPharazonV: So will you be moving back soon?
ArPharazonV: And she's online, so I'm getting out of bnet again :-)
VardaValar1: okies
VardaValar1: I"m still pulling up LotRO
AriehnV has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya Sunshine :-)
AriehnV: aiya Varda :-)
ArPharazonV: Aiyarien!
VardaValar1: hehe
VardaValar1: and nice star
ArPharazonV: well, the sun is a star
VardaValar1: Truth
AriehnV: indeed they are nice Sunstar
ArPharazonV: ..maybe not in Arda, but still!
VardaValar1: Just a bigger vessel ;-)
ArPharazonV: that works
AriehnV: *needs a bigger boat* ., nods
VardaValar1: ^^
VardaValar1: Durin's trying to come in
VardaValar1: His first time, so we're working on it
VardaValar1: He shows as Durin (V) but no Group Chat option [Note:
Varda on the Windows Legacy version of AIM could not see the email name
for Durin]
ArPharazonV: Not sure what name I'd need to add him.
VardaValar1: When he makes it in, you can add him then. *crosses
fingers*
ArPharazonV: Yes... but... for purposes of aid, that's the wrong way
around :-)
VardaValar1: He's on his comp, so probably a setting
VardaValar1: hehe
VardaValar1: That's the name I show Durin (V)
ArPharazonV: I'm not sure that's the name I need, since most of the
names I've got don't have spaces and none have brackets.
ArPharazonV: But I'll try.
ArPharazonV: Yep, I can't add that name.
ArPharazonV: It must be his display name but not his actual AIM name.
[Note: Pharazon on the oldest AIM version could not see the display
name for Durin]
VardaValar1: ok, we're working on it
VardaValar1: Be good to have another to chat with us. :-)
VardaValar1: He does not have the General IM option
karakedi25 has entered the room.
AriehnV: hm has he got an old version or the newest one??
AriehnV: he might want an older version of aim
VardaValar1: Asking now
VardaValar1: Funny that we would have such a problem with the new
version
AriehnV: because i had trouble wit this
VardaValar1: Aye, seems to be a normal problem. You'd think they'd make
it possible to talk between versions of their own program.
ArPharazonV: Well *we* can.
VardaValar1: He just went offline. Not sure he got all my directions
VardaValar1: Trying to tell him in LotRO
VardaValar1: He wanted to know if we use AIM for raiding, fellowship,
etc
VardaValar1: He may be thinking of stuff like Ventrilo
VardaValar1: Which we do have
VardaValar1: heh, thirty minutes in. Hope you guys are gaming while you
wait.
ArPharazonV: Just browsing and reading a few webcomics. And playing
more Pixelo!
VardaValar1: Fun :-)
ArPharazonV: I'm into the hard puzzles now, which are.. pretty hard.
VardaValar1: Sort of like getting folks into AIM. ;-)
ArPharazonV: hehe
karakedi25: in lotro
VardaValar1: Aiya :-)
VardaValar1: Here's the link I should have been giving people:
ArPharazonV: And listening to a song from the MLP season 4 finale which
was yesterday, and quite a well done conclusion to the season. Good
news is that season 5 has been confirmed.. bad news is that it's been
confirmed for 2015 :-)
VardaValar1: http://www.aim.com/legacydownloads
Durin (V) has entered the room.
Durin (V): Aiya kinsfolk
ArPharazonV: Aiya!
VardaValar1: Aiya Durin and Indis :-)
top
VardaValar1: Elen
sila lumenn' omentielvo!
VardaValar1: A star shines on the hour of our meeting!
VardaValar1: Membership:
VardaValar1: This is Durin's first time in one of
our meetings. Glad to have you.
ArPharazonV: Welcome!
VardaValar1: Would you like to say a few words to introduce yourself?
Just things you don't mind being public on our transcript.
Durin (V): Hello, I am Durin, pleased to meet you all here
AriehnV: Aiya Durin :-) i am pleased to meet you as well
VardaValar1: Welcome to Durin the Deathless. May you survive being in
LotRO gaming and here at the same time. :-)
karakedi25: i
karakedi25: mistype
VardaValar1: You stay alive too, Indis :-)
ArPharazonV: Rather an interesting claim to Deathless if you're playing
an MMO...
VardaValar1: There is an Undying title in LotRO.
ArPharazonV: in WoW too!
VardaValar1: There you go!
VardaValar1: Between lag and afk, I've never quite managed it. May try
for it on the new Beorning class when it comes out, just for giggles
and grins.
top
VardaValar1: Web:
VardaValar1: No new articles, stories, poems, art, language stuff,
humor, or music this past week, although
VardaValar1: DeepGroover-(T) has made a new vampire model that we might
be able to put up, as a Silmarillion
vampire. He just looks an awful lot like Bela Lugosi.
top
VardaValar1: Gaming:
(more Web at first, then on to
gaming)
VardaValar1: A comment on AIM
VardaValar1: Since we have so much trouble in recent years with this
program, perhaps we should be considering a new program that is not
hard on our hard drive space and easy for folks to enter.
VardaValar1: Suggestions will be taken and tested, if given.
ArPharazonV: Dunno about you, but the only thing that's really taking
any space on my pc is all the transcripts ;-)
VardaValar1: We used to use Battlenet, until we were scattered across
so many games, then tried a few types and settled on this one. That was
quite some few years ago.
VardaValar1: Agreed. And once the transcripts are online, you can
remove the old ones, so no space to speak of. : )
ArPharazonV: Eh, I like collecting.
VardaValar1: Ok, suggestions may also be sent to Varda by email and
we'll see how things go.
VardaValar1: It's a nice back-up, Phar, thanks. :-)
ArPharazonV: I'm a hoarder.
VardaValar1: Same : )
VardaValar1: Trying to reform, though.
VardaValar1: Any games this past week that were non-LotRO, non[-WoW?
ArPharazonV: Well, same as last week mainly. Flashgaming, including Pixelo, but
nothing new to mention.
ArPharazonV: Hearthstone,
got all of my classes to 15 now, working on 20, and have decided to
move mainly into ranked play except for class-specific daily quests.
VardaValar1: And you still seem to enjoy Pixelo puzzling. : )
ArPharazonV: And more My Little Investigations, up to the
last confrontation now, but can't save during a confrontation, so I'll
have to restart that bit somewhere during the next week and finish the
game (or at least the first case!).
ArPharazonV: Oh yes. But there's like 400 of them, and they're pretty
difficult to do now without making mistakes.
ArPharazonV: Pixelo puzzles, that is.
ArPharazonV: Well, that's pretty much it from me!
VardaValar1: Oh, Phar asked a question earlier
under Membership. I'm still on track for Merry-(V) to fly up on May
17th, stay a couple days, then we'll take a day to fly back. Prop
plane, very fun, great view.
VardaValar1: Piper Arrow
VardaValar1: He has to have time to get in a nap and play with his
grand-nephew. : )
VardaValar1: Any other Membership or non-WoW, non-LotRO gaming news?
VardaValar1: WoW:
VardaValar1: Blizzard has two new blogs posted, links on our Games Site
by Eonwe:
VardaValar1: What will be happening to Siege of Orgrimmar in 6.1
VardaValar1: http://us.battle.net/wow/en/blog/14014199/siege-of-orgrimmar-changes-in-patch-60-and-warlords-of-draenor-5-5-20

VardaValar1: Artcraft on the Spires of Arak:
VardaValar1: http://us.battle.net/wow/en/blog/13987918/artcraft-the-spires-of-arak-5-6-2014
VardaValar1: Any other WoW news, oh Gamers in WoW? : )
ArPharazonV: Hmm, still working on my Timeless Isle stuff, unlucky with
the drops; and no new heroic modes have been completed, but we did have
our first tries on heroic Nazgrim this week. Looking promising!
VardaValar1: That art above has helpful tips for our computer artists
as well.
ArPharazonV: Also, new mount this week: Armored Razzashi Raptor from
Zul'Gurub, quite a good looking mount!
VardaValar1: Good luck, Phar!
VardaValar1: LotRO:
VardaValar1: Durin, go ahead.
Durin (V): Well, I've just been hard at it for a couple of months. Have
3 toons in the 39-48 level range (Guardian, Champion, Minstrel)
VardaValar1: No kidding about his going after it, and the hard way with
keeping them about even.
Durin (V): Once I have them all equipped with leg weapons, I'd like to
start learning more about fellowship work. So I'll need help from the
kin to learn to adapt my style
Durin (V): Do we have many kinfolk who are interested in fellowship
play?
VardaValar1: Aye, most of us like to do some. Lots of instances to run.
Durin (V): Or are most focused on crafting? I know that interersts
change over time and with experience.
VardaValar1: Agreed, the focus changes with which members we have on
regularly.
Durin (V): What advice might you folks give me, in order to get off to
a good start?
VardaValar1: Best I know is I'm pulling up a character now that might
be able to run with you, and we can play and talk at the same time.
VardaValar1: Duo is the best for running landscape quests and a lot of
first time skirmishes
VardaValar1: Indis, if you'd like to weigh in, this would be a great
time. ;-)
karakedi25: Unfortunately most of mine are at too high a level unless
you want someone to help you get through a tough spot.
VardaValar1: She's usually in a raid at this time
VardaValar1: He's just asking advice.
karakedi25: No raid atm
VardaValar1: Mother's Day off? : )
Durin (V): I gather that raids are generally top/end-level characters?
karakedi25: no, our runs started at 4 and are over with now
VardaValar1: Raids don't have to be top-end.
VardaValar1: I was in one yesterday hitting chickens with a stick. :-)
AriehnV: hitting chicken with a stick in a raid? sounds fun
karakedi25: In Moria there will be some skirmish raids at the end of
Vol.II Book 5.
VardaValar1: Hilarious. Today is the last day for it this month.
Durin (V): A drumstick, I assume?
ArPharazonV: Let's raid some chickens?
AriehnV: *giggles*
VardaValar1: You can even felllow up for session play as chickens. :-)
AriehnV: *lets hunt some chickens*[
VardaValar1: Lots of other stuff. Low level Great Barrows for instance
VardaValar1: Arien was using Aragorn's voice!
VardaValar1: Learning the raids at the low levels helps a lot when
hitting higher level raids. Get to know your role.
karakedi25: There are quite a lot available if you're not an F2P
player. F2P limits skirmish raid options severely.
VardaValar1: Durin, are you a subscribed player?
karakedi25: But there are quite a few group quests, especially in the
earlier areas.
Durin (V): No, I'm a cheapo. Which regions have the popular instances?
VardaValar1: Also doing book quests opens up a lot of skirmishes that
can be soloed, duoed, fellowed, and raided.
VardaValar1: I recommend following the epic quests. Mirkwood and Moria
give many of the skirmishes.
Durin (V): Okay, well Moria is next on my shopping list. Mirkwood is
way beyond my level though.
VardaValar1: Something for later. : )
karakedi25: It's worth getting when you get to level.
VardaValar1: Agreed
VardaValar1: Maybe you can be collecting Turbine points to help buy the
expansions
Durin (V): Aye, Moria is 1495. I have 700_ now and buying 600 costs
very little
VardaValar1: You're coming up on it soon. Maybe I can work with you on
doing the TP stuff. : )
VardaValar1: I have a little more time these days
Durin (V): That's where I find running 3 toons helps. They all run the
same areas and build up TP all in lockstep. But it does take time, and
I can't really charge ahead
Durin (V): Good for sharing leg weapon finds though.
karakedi25: Varda's hunter could get you through slayer deeds in no
time.
AriehnV: oh you meean legacy weapons ^^ i was wondering what on earth
leg weapons are ;-)
Durin (V): The ones that strap to your leg, right? ;P
AriehnV: *giggles*
Durin (V): Like on Tomb Raider
VardaValar1: Leg is often used as short for legacy. Weapons, or the
abilities on a weapon that are built up.
VardaValar1: hehehe
AriehnV: so legacy weapons are account bound ? so you can send them
from one character to another on the account? unidentified i guess?
VardaValar1: They are available from our kin bank too. :-)
VardaValar1: You can pass them around to friends.
VardaValar1: They would be better thought of as master worked, perhaps.
VardaValar1: They can be built up, then switched out as you hit the old
level caps more or less.
ArPharazonV: I was thinking legendary weapons, myself ;-)
VardaValar1: Aye, it's intended to mean Legendary weapons, named like Glamdring.
top
VardaValar1: Shifting to Tolkien chat: (mixed with
LotRO chat, so read carefully to avoid confusion)
Durin (V): Speaking of which, I leveled my woodworker up so that he
could make leg(endary) weapons. But then I went silly and blew 30 gold
buying recipes for things I'll never build
VardaValar1: You just think you won't. Someone else may need them. : )
VardaValar1: Like the treasure trove of the trolls. Junk in there, but
legendary weapons too, in the books.
VardaValar1: In the books, the hobbits weren't handed weapons by
Aragorn.
ArPharazonV: As a leatherworker in WoW... I always collect any recipes
I can get, even if I know I'll never make them.
Durin (V): By Tom Bombadil, iirc
ArPharazonV: Just being a collector :-)
VardaValar1: Agreed, I grab every recipe I can get in any game.
Completionist, and you never know when someone will need them later on.
ArPharazonV: And yes, by Tom Bombadil, taken from the barrow, I think?
VardaValar1: I still have the bow Legolas gave me back in the epic.
Eater of vault space. : )
VardaValar1: Tom Bombadil aided the hobbits when called by Frodo, and
spread out the treasure to clear away the evil.
VardaValar1: The items were scattered by people and creatures to aid
with that cleansing.
VardaValar1: Some of those people being hobbits. : )
karakedi25: I keep the graceful sword from one of the Gwingris
(Eregion) quest, which also eats space.
VardaValar1: Good thing they let us increase space. Spandex vaults!
karakedi25: I'm at vault space limit or close to it on most of my
characters. :-(
VardaValar1: The troll cache had genuine legendary weapons mixed with
the junk taken from victims.
VardaValar1: Mithril coins let us increase the vault space, but takes
one-hundred at a time. I've been increasing the kin vault somewhat.
Need people to clear stuff!
VardaValar1: Also some low level items that might be good for our new
Beornings. ;-) [Note: later that evening Varda learned that
Beornings enter the LotRO game at level 50, the way Death Knights did
in World of WarCraft.]
VardaValar1: The legendary named weapon concept was big in the
Scandinavian area, and in England. Maybe you guys know some other
places?
VardaValar1: Did the Asians name their special weapons? I'd be
surprised if they didn't.
VardaValar1: Anyway, JRRT took that idea from the Scandinavians that he
so enjoyed and put them in the books.
VardaValar1: That's why we have them in LotRO.
karakedi25: I'm fairly sure that Asians did name special weapons.
AriehnV: Excalibur .. and my larp sword is Iskandur ^^
VardaValar1: What other named weapons from the books can we think of.
Don't have to restrict to LotR like an entry test. : )
VardaValar1: Middle-earth please. : )
ArPharazonV: Aww, I was gonna mention Kring from Discworld. But fine.
VardaValar1: After-meeting we can open up to all books. : )
AriehnV: you mean Sting which
belonged to a certain hobbit in the shire ^^
VardaValar1: Belthronding, the
Bow of Beleg.
VardaValar1: Two hobbits in the Shire? : )
AriehnV: in fact to two certain hobbits
ArPharazonV: Sure, Sting, and Orcrist, and Glamdring.
ArPharazonV: Narsil/Anduril.
karakedi25: [FYI, I'm listening to a podcast about last year's Player
Council by a former member. If interested, it's on http://mmoreporter.com/, and the
podcast (Lotro reporter) is from today.]
VardaValar1: (This might be considered name-dropping)
Durin (V): In Two Towers, Eomer had a named weapon too. But can't
remember the name
VardaValar1: Thank you, Indis. : )
ArPharazonV: The twin blades in the Silmarillion,
coming from Eol, though I don't remember if he forged them using
Dwarven contacts, or if he got them from the Dwarves.
ArPharazonV: But they did end up being divided, one being a key player
in the Narn.
VardaValar1: Eomer's Guthwine.
Guthwine for the Mark!
VardaValar1: Eol made the twin swords from the same piece of meteoric
iron, which would be considered star metal.
AriehnV: i think Thoden had a named sword two but i forgot what it was
karakedi25: Anglachel and Anguirel (gave the first to Thingol
and kept the second)
VardaValar1: Eol's swords. Anglachel was renamed Gurthang when reforged for Turin
VardaValar1: and what Indis said. :-)
VardaValar1: Herugrim for
Theoden. It's in LotRO too. : )
AriehnV: there is also the weapon of Beleg was it .. Aiglos?
VardaValar1: Beleg used the sword that later went to Turin
AriehnV: i cant really remeber walthough i think it was mentioned
duriing their stay with the outlaws
VardaValar1: Gurthang was the one talking sword, angry at Turin for
using it to kill Beleg (by accident).
AriehnV: ah yeah
VardaValar1: Grond, mace of
Morgoth, also the name of the ram used against Minas Tirith, in
Morgoth's honor I'm sure.
ArPharazonV: So who used Anguirel? Did Maeglin use it?
Durin (V): Good luck trying to slot Grond
VardaValar1: How about an axe, for a change of pace. Dramborleg, used by Tuor
VardaValar1: hehe
AriehnV: Aeglos was the name
of Gil-Galads spear
ArPharazonV: Right, was just gonna mention Aeglos :-)
VardaValar1: Well, Anguirel was stolen from Eol by Maeglin when he ran
away from home with his mother.
VardaValar1: Aye, Arien
VardaValar1: Lot of A names. Angrist
was a knife used by Curufin and Beren
VardaValar1: Ah, a sword that should be mentioned. Ringil, used by Fingolfin vs Morgoth
VardaValar1: It's on our index as a painting. :-)
VardaValar1: Sometimes comes up on the image rotation.
VardaValar1: Reminds me, I need to make a better Anduril article than
the quick mention one I put up before.
AriehnV: Belthronding was the
name of Belegs bow ^^ i forgot that
VardaValar1: right
AriehnV: Angrist Turins knife
AriehnV: Grond of course the
Hamer of doom the warhammer of the orcs or Trolls
VardaValar1: We're down to re-runs now. Shall we take that as a sign to
move to After-meeting? : )
Durin (V): What's the After-meeting?
VardaValar1: *raises the silver hammer*
VardaValar1: *brings it down*
VardaValar1: *tinnnnnng*
top
VardaValar1: After-meeting!
karakedi25: unofficial talk-about anything time
VardaValar1: Feel free to talk about anything. : )
VardaValar1: Like legendary non-Middle-earth weapons!
VardaValar1: or whatever.
ArPharazonV: So...
ArPharazonV: what do you name your silver hammer?
VardaValar1: Argentia
AriehnV: After-meeting yes that, very often its an extension
AriehnV: Celbebgrond?
ArPharazonV: Hah.
VardaValar1: Aye, it can extend the Tolkien chat after some folks have
to go to bed
AriehnV: Celebgrond
VardaValar1: I like that one, Arien. : )
VardaValar1: Silver hammer, heh
ArPharazonV: Well, outside Middle-Earth... there is Kring, yes, from
the very first Discworld book. Another famous example would be
Excalibur :-)
karakedi25: Celebdring would be silver hammer (not sure about sound
changes)
VardaValar1: After-meeting means everyone can feel free to leave at any
time, no worries, also
ArPharazonV: I like that the word for a silver hammer contains "ring".
ArPharazonV: What are those words called... *googles*
AriehnV: oh i like that as well Celebdring sounds good
ArPharazonV: onomatopoeia
VardaValar1: Aye : )
karakedi25: consonant mutations in Sindarin compounds are a weak area
for me
VardaValar1: I generally have to look them up, but sometimes get the
leniting right.
Durin (V): Going AFK in-game. Logging from meeting.
Durin (V): Namarie
Durin (V) has left the room.
VardaValar1: ohh, Eowyn and Faramir and gamer-to-be just
VardaValar1: gave me 12 red roses and a lovely card with it. : )
VardaValar1: Sooo sweet. : )
karakedi25: :-)
ArPharazonV: Happy mother's day, Varda :-)
VardaValar1: Thank you : )
VardaValar1: Eowyn's the main mom here, just ask the baby. ^^ Potted
rose plant, cards, and a little free time for her today.
ArPharazonV: Happy mother's day to Eowyn too, then!
AriehnV: happy motherxs day you mothers over there
VardaValar1: and to all the mothers in the guild and mothers of our
guild folk
VardaValar1: and hey, all mothers!
VardaValar1: Now let's game!
karakedi25: do cat mothers count? ;-)
AriehnV: i just came across this .. it really sounds good and it fits
to the topic :-)
AriehnV: http://minstrelsongs.com/track/ballad-of-aiglos
karakedi25: ok logging out now. Have fun all. namarie
karakedi25 has left the room.
ArPharazonV: Namarie Indis!
VardaValar1: Namarie Indis
VardaValar1: And why not cat mothers. : )
VardaValar1: I like the poem. : )
VardaValar1: Lonely Mountain Band can charge real life money for their
work?
AriehnV: for the downloads if i understand it
AriehnV: not for just listening at the tracks
AriehnV: and if so i d think its some how copyrigted and the tokien
family knows about it
ArPharazonV: Hmm, is that a bandcamp site? Looks like it. In that case,
it's usually the case that you listen to the tracks for free but can
buy the album for cash. In some cases I've even seen several tracks
only partially available for free.
ArPharazonV: Well, just played some Hearthstone, getting to rank 18 for
the first time, and levelling my paladin to 17...
ArPharazonV: And now I have a total level of 144, which I thought you
might appreciate!
AriehnV: grats
AriehnV: :-)
ArPharazonV: Thanks :-)
AriehnV: i still dont see through hearthstne as game to be honest ^^
ArPharazonV: It's fun enough if you know what you're doing, even with
basic decks.
ArPharazonV: And, of course, being the collector that I am...
AriehnV: i dont .. so i dont have fun :-(
ArPharazonV: cards, levels, card backs, golden heroes, etc!
ArPharazonV: I suppose it's not for everyone. I never really liked
cardgames myself. But it's not too difficult to learn. I've picked up
most of my basic decks from the Icy Veins website, which has some
strategies and lessons and things to watch out for too. I'll give a
link.
ArPharazonV: http://www.icy-veins.com/hearthstone
AriehnV: cool thanks :-) didnt know about this
ArPharazonV: First thing, though, is that you have to realize that
you'll lose a lot, no matter what happens. Both in casual play and
ranked play the system will go by your wins and losses to put you in a
place where you have to face people of about equal skill; as in, a
50/50 chance of winning.
ArPharazonV: But even when you lose you get experience for your heroes,
and once you find your place, you'll get wins too, which you can use to
complete dailies and collect gold to buy cards.
ArPharazonV: And there are daily quests that don't even require wins,
but just an accumulating number of spells cast, minions played/killed,
damage done, etc.
ArPharazonV: And of course just because you lose doesn't make it time
wasted, because even losing games can still be fun ;-)
ArPharazonV: So just keep learning and playing and you'll get there!
AriehnV: hehe all right i ll have a look at that tomorrow ..i should
get to bed and still got to hang up the uniforms okay :-)
ArPharazonV: Sure :-)
ArPharazonV: Oh, and when you look at that website...
ArPharazonV: You can skip all the meta-gaming stuff with shifting
class-compositions and cards gaining/losing value depending on which
decks are popular at any given time.
ArPharazonV: It helps if you know what you'll be facing, but really,
since it'll put you in with your own skill regardless, it should only
be really useful if you're trying the top in ranked play. Which most
people won't. I'm not even gonna bother myself.
ArPharazonV: Just go for the basic stuff, which shouldn't be too
overwhelming.
ArPharazonV: *trying to reach the top
AriehnV: hehe okay
AriehnV: just sorting out some bone bags first ^^ then bed
ArPharazonV: *nods*
ArPharazonV: I'll be off soon too.
ArPharazonV: Allright, saving and sending transcript.
