Before-meeting
You have just entered room
"valarguildmeetingplace."
Eonwe Valar has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: Heya.
ArPharazonV: Aiya!
Eonwe Valar: We'll give it a couple more minutes, then begin.
Iryenth has entered the room.
GwaihirValar has entered the room.
GwaihirValar: hello
ArPharazonV: Aiya!
Eonwe Valar: Back
Eonwe Valar: Heya Gwaihir and Gilraen :}
Iryenth: aiya
GwaihirValar: welcome back
Eonwe Valar: Thanks :}
Eonwe Valar: OK, let's go ahead and begin the meeting.
top
Eonwe Valar: Elen
Sila Lumenn Omentielvo!
Eonwe Valar: Membership:
Eonwe Valar: We're all here :}
AriehnV has entered the room.
AriehnV: aiya all :-)
Eonwe Valar: Heya Arien :}
Eonwe Valar: Just in time for Membership news :}
Eonwe Valar: Gwaihir, I believe you had some Membership news?
GwaihirValar: yes
Eonwe Valar: Go ahead.
GwaihirValar: I think you're the only person here who will remember
her... but one of our former members passed away last year with nobody
being aware and just the other day I found her obituary. Our former Luthien
(not the last Luthien, but I believe the one before that) passed away
in January of last year
GwaihirValar: http://yourlifemoments.ca/sitepages/obituary.asp?oid=674117
[Note: in case that link is later removed, the obituary is copied here
onto our site as well.]
GwaihirValar: At the time, her brother was a member as well, going by Eomer at that point.
GwaihirValar: But nobody had heard from either of them in years
Eonwe Valar: That is indeed sat to hear. I remember her being a nice
person, her and her brother Eomer.
AriehnV: sorry to hear that :-( she sounds to have been great fun to
know
Eonwe Valar: I did a quick check of the Membership pages, looks like we
had lost contact with her in 2007, and her brother in 2008. (or at
least that is when they were dropped for no contact).
ArPharazonV: My condolences as well. You'd told me earlier this week,
but it doesn't hurt to get them twice.
Eonwe Valar: It doesn't seem we've had a full member choose the name
Luthien since then.
GwaihirValar: Ya, it had been quite a while. She'd been a close friend
of mine, so I'd been trying to get in touch with her since I lost
contact, which is how I found the obituary.
GwaihirValar: But that was the news I had, sad though it is. Thank you
for the chance to share.
AriehnV: My condoleces yes too
Eonwe Valar: Thanks for sharing.
Eonwe Valar: Does anyone else have any member news?
Eonwe Valar: Pardon, correction on former Eomer, Luthien's brother: He
was dropped in 2009. He would not be our current Eomer, who joined in
2009.

Eonwe Valar: Web:
Eonwe Valar: This is also partly Membership news. Varda is still
visiting with Eowyn, and some programs are giving her trouble to access
while others are not, so if some pages i.e. the News page do not
reflect the most current news right now, don't worry. At the worst
Varda will update it and catch up when she gets back.
ArPharazonV: Varda still having trouble getting into AIM from that
location?
Eonwe Valar: Seems so.
Eonwe Valar: Also, looks like Proboards v5 has finally hit our forum.
karakedi25 has entered the room.
karakedi25: aiya
ArPharazonV: Aiya!
Eonwe Valar: Heya Indis :}
ArPharazonV: Yep, it has. With some odd new standard avatar picture.
Eonwe Valar: In the middle of Web right now, just mentioning the forum
update now.
Eonwe Valar: You should be able to customize your own avatar, or use an
image just like before.
ArPharazonV: Oh, the old ones still work. But it's weird to see it on
Varda or any spammers going around.
Eonwe Valar: I'm still looking into what the new setup can have for us
to see what larger changes might be good or fun to have, and if any
small tweaks need to be made, making them.
Eonwe Valar: I.e. since the forum now displays the link list of
sub-boards for a board, I took them out of the board descriptions.
ArPharazonV: Makes sense.
Eonwe Valar: If you see something that looks redundant or showing oddly
that looks like something I could fix, let me know.
Eonwe Valar: Other than that, don't forget you now need a proboards
global account, but you can still use your original login to log into
the forum directly.
Eonwe Valar: The upgrade to a global account was actually pretty quick.
Eonwe Valar: Any questions on the forum before we move to gaming?

Eonwe Valar: Gaming:
Eonwe Valar: WoW:
Eonwe Valar: Lunar Festival still going.
AriehnV: i ve got some gaming and membership news there for wow
Eonwe Valar: Blizzard continues to set up their Connected Realms.
Eonwe Valar: ok.
Eonwe Valar: Go ahead Arien.
AriehnV: a rare visitor on wow turned up yesterday in my real id and we
chatted as well :-) can you guess?
AriehnV: Menelvagor is back on WoW for ten days free trial
ArPharazonV: Well it wasn't me. Could've been Menel- yes.
AriehnV: and he said he might be back for WoD
AriehnV: at least for ten days again
ArPharazonV: Ah. Not bad. Maybe he'll stick around after that.
ArPharazonV: Actually didn't he mention it in an aftermeeting at some
point?
AriehnV: yes i think he wants to have a look
AriehnV: yes i remember vaguely him mentioning it
ArPharazonV: Hard to check without the transcripts being up ;-)
AriehnV: but yesterday i spoke with
AriehnV: so was good to see him again there :-)
ArPharazonV: Is he enjoying it so far? :-)
AriehnV: i think so i saw him in raids anyway hehe
AriehnV: as did i actually .. my horde guild finally managed a
Firelands run (achievements) and start farming for the epic staff on
the mage
AriehnV: err legendary
ArPharazonV: Oh, grats! That is a nice staff.
AriehnV: yus i look forward to it :-D can finally transform then in a
blue dragon .. roar
AriehnV: i need that staff for rp hence ;-)
AriehnV: so that was my news anyway :-)
AriehnV: go ahead next whoever
ArPharazonV: For RP you need to transform into a dragon? ;-)
AriehnV: yus my character is a dragon .. a young one a drake .. a blue
AriehnV: my Belf mage in fact ;-) one of them#
Eonwe Valar has left the room.
Eonwe Valar has entered the room.
ArPharazonV: Aiyata
Eonwe Valar: Thanks. Internet randomly disconnected.
Eonwe Valar: Last text I saw was me saying "Cool". What did I miss
since then?
ArPharazonV: I don't see you saying Cool
Eonwe Valar: OK, then last thing before that would've been Phar's "Well
it wasn't me. Could've been Menel- yes."
ArPharazonV: Ah, sizeable chunk then. Hang on, copying bit by bit.
ArPharazonV: ArPharazonV: Well it wasn't me. Could've been Menel-

Eonwe Valar: Thanks :}
Eonwe Valar: He had popped in on one of those 10-day trials in Lothar
the other week.
Eonwe Valar: Actually got a couple of dungeon runs in with him :}
ArPharazonV: Well, as long as we're in WoW news...
Eonwe Valar: Go ahead Phar.
ArPharazonV: Continuing further in heroic bossfights while raiding, got
more loot, so slowly I'm upgrading my gear again.. also pet-levelling
is continuing, I've now maxed out all the pets I need to be able to
2-pet all the trainer fights in Pandaria, which means I can level new
pets for the Tournament a lot faster. Should get there in just over a
week.
ArPharazonV: And after someone from our group photoshopped herself into
a groupshot and put it on out forum, I asked her to make a groupshot of
all my alts on the server, so that should be fun if it works! ;-)
Eonwe Valar: hehe
ArPharazonV: And that's it for me for WoW.
Eonwe Valar: Thanks.
Eonwe Valar: LotRO:
AriehnV: i should get hold of that programme again
Eonwe Valar: Any LotRO news?
AriehnV: i loved it .. did the avatar for my first Valarguildname wirth
it
ArPharazonV: Hmhm, if the shot works out I'll throw it on our forum too
:-)
AriehnV: mmmh no not from me .. although i did put on another level on
my gfuardian
AriehnV: and played a bit with the cappy
Eonwe Valar: Doesn't look like Sapience is quite ready to take her
Hobbit to Isengard on Landroval.
karakedi25: sapience is male
karakedi25: and it does look as though Landroval will come late in the
series
Eonwe Valar: Arg, yes, don't know why I keep thinking "she"
karakedi25: It has been announced that they are working on a revamp of
the North Downs.
karakedi25: I've been busy in West Rohan. There's a long and rather
linear landscape questline that intertwines with the Epic.
Eonwe Valar: I'm still hanging out in the previous expansion, hehe.
karakedi25: Not too much of general interest to talk about atm.
karakedi25: What's happened to Varda? I haven't seen her around for
some time. Is she OK?
Eonwe Valar: Shes visiting Eowyn and her new grandson. She's got a
laptop, but it's giving her some problems getting online with some
programs.
karakedi25: Including LotRO, no doubt
Eonwe Valar: AIM looked like it was letting her in the other week as
she got in after the meeting, but since then looks like AIM's giving
her problems too.
karakedi25: Unstable connection?
Eonwe Valar: LotRO actually seems to let her in fine, from my
understanding. I ran into her there the other night when I popped in
for my Hobbit presents.
Eonwe Valar: Considering how she's spending time with family, I'm not
sure how much computer time she really gets.
Eonwe Valar: She has been in contact, though.
karakedi25: When does she expect to return?
Eonwe Valar: Early to mid February.
Eonwe Valar: OK, on with Gaming news :}
Eonwe Valar: Hearthstone is
now in open beta, for those who enjoy card battle games: http://us.battle.net/hearthstone/en/
Eonwe Valar: Any other gaming news?
AriehnV: yes i ve it . the open beta ^^
AriehnV: i ve got it
AriehnV: and played around with it
ArPharazonV: Some flashgaming.
Nothing much. Diablo 3 expansion
CE details were released but I've already got one ordered anyway :-)
AriehnV: not that i really understand it but i did win the intial mage
quest and got into traing mode hehe
ArPharazonV: http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/blog/12653569/explore-the-resplendent-reaper-of-souls-collectors-edition-29-01-2014
Eonwe Valar: The usual stuff they put in with a collector's edition,
hehe.
Eonwe Valar: Not that I'm complaining, mind you. :} I could've sworn
they'd already announced what was in it before, though.
ArPharazonV: Probably. I heard about the treasure goblin ages ago.
Eonwe Valar: Aha, they did, just not with the visual that lays it all
out.
Eonwe Valar: For those looking forward to it, you already know it's a
little less than 2 months now until you can get your hands on it :}
Eonwe Valar: Any other gaming news? Now is also the chance to whisper
me Tolkien topics if you have one you'd like to discuss.
Eonwe Valar: Did you have any more to add about your experience with
the open beta of Hearthstone, Arien?
Eonwe Valar: OK, on to Tolkien then :}
top
Eonwe Valar: Tolkien:
AriehnV: resetting router here
AriehnV has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: The Eagles:
why not just send a flock of them to pluck Pharazon and his army off
their ships and put them back down on Numenor?
ArPharazonV: ...Well, it's a lot of ships.
ArPharazonV: Also, we'd probably have fired at them.
ArPharazonV: Bow and arrow of course.
AriehnV has entered the room.
GwaihirValar: What good would it have done? They would've just built
more.
GwaihirValar: Solution had to be a bit more permanent than just
relocation.
ArPharazonV: Could've sunk the ships with us on it.
Eonwe Valar: I don't know, the armada Pharazon built up was pretty
sizeable. He left no heir and he was already in his old age. He might
not have lived long enough to build up a new fleet. By that time the
Lords of Andunie could've strengthened their position in Numenor once
again.
AriehnV has left the room.
AriehnV has entered the room.
GwaihirValar: Also I think that the Valar were still hoping that they
would come to their sense and turn back of their own will.
Eonwe Valar: Or Sauron could've wiped out or driven off all of the
Faithful and claimed rulership himself, of course.
Eonwe Valar: Aye, that's possible, Gwaihir.
GwaihirValar: It was also kind of the way that things tended to
operate. The Valar acted in subtle ways until overt action was forced
out of them. In this case, that action was not forced until they set
foot upon lands they'd vbeen forbidden from.
ArPharazonV: So why didn't the eagles pick us up as we were landing? :-)
Eonwe Valar: Aye! :}
GwaihirValar: We were lazy?
Eonwe Valar: The Valar didn't really take overt action in this case,
which they could've. They'd set the ban and it was ignored. They laid
down their guardianship and called upon Eru.
Eonwe Valar: In defense of the Eagles, they were all the way in
Middle-Earth.
Eonwe Valar: Which really makes one wonder why Manwë didn't keep
some in Aman for this purpose :}
GwaihirValar: Well exactly... who wants to fly all that way? Sheesh,
let Eru do it.
ArPharazonV: Well yes, Manwë might have called in some eagles
while we were on our way, but he didn't.
GwaihirValar: Or maybe he did, but they just didn't arrive in time.
We're fast, but... that's a long way.
ArPharazonV: Faster than our ships, surely? If I recall the winds were
against us ;-)
GwaihirValar: But like... 5 times the distance lol
Eonwe Valar: Which makes one wonder again: the eagles flew in from
Aman. Did they fly directly over the ocean with no rest, or did they
fly over the Helkaraxe where they would've had some tentative landing
spots for a break or two?
GwaihirValar: I imagine that was part of the reason why some of those
random little islands and tall rocks you read about in some of the
Histories were for
GwaihirValar: were there
Eonwe Valar: *Helcaraxë
ArPharazonV: And the Valar looked upon the world, and said, "Lo, that
water there... it looks a bit empty. Let's fill up the map a little
bit, shall we?" And they made tiny islands for no other purpose than to
look pretty.
Eonwe Valar: Good point there, Gwaihir :}
ArPharazonV: And they saw their work and said, "Well, that's much
better!"
Eonwe Valar: I remember something in the Histories about Ossë
causing problems with the island that later became Tol Eressea being
brought across the water. Islands between Endor and Aman maybe related
to that. My memory is a bit fuzzy on that particular part.
ArPharazonV: Obstacles in the way?
Eonwe Valar: I don't think it was solely limited to his rooting it to
the seabed at least.
ArPharazonV: Forcing them to steer?
GwaihirValar: Something like that
GwaihirValar: It's also possible that the Valar had a good idea of how
things were going to end... and didn't want the Eagles to be stuck in
Aman after the ways got bent.
Eonwe Valar: Well, they did still have means to get people to and from
Aman, even after it was "removed from the circles of the world," so
they could've got the eagles back.
ArPharazonV: If those lone rocks and island were still on the straight
path...
GwaihirValar: Ya, but I somehow doubt it was as simple as that.
ArPharazonV: *looks into the sky, sees rocks hanging around*
AriehnV: stars are rocks ^^
GwaihirValar: The fact that so few came and went makes it seem like it
wasn't an easy thing.
GwaihirValar: It's time for me to start thinking about dinner though,
so I'll be afk for a while. Take care folks :-)
Eonwe Valar: Well, "so few" is relative as far as "went." Many Elves,
particularly Noldor and Sindar, went to Aman over the course of the
Third Age. As far as "came", yeah, there's the Istari and that's about
it. It might not have been a casual thing to do, but it does seem to be
possible for those on a mission from the Valar to get from Aman to
Endor.
Eonwe Valar: Bon apetit Gwaihir :}
Eonwe Valar: The Elves in Aman didn't seem to be so interested in going
from Aman to Endor, particularly once the Numenorean relations soured.
GwaihirValar: (Glorfindel as well) ;-)
ArPharazonV: Enjoy, Gwai!
ArPharazonV: Don't eat too many goblins.
Eonwe Valar: Aye, but it seems he came in the Second Age, when getting
to and from Aman was less of an issue.
Eonwe Valar: :}
Eonwe Valar: Shall we bang the gavel here, and let everyone go about
their business?
ArPharazonV: I'm already going on my business, busy petbattling for
today ;-)
Eonwe Valar: :}
Eonwe Valar: OK, well then...
Eonwe Valar: *bangs gavel*
top
Eonwe Valar: Aftermeeting:
Eonwe Valar: Be free :}
ArPharazonV: Always ready to chat though. There's no rush in pet
battles.
ArPharazonV: Could wait 3 hours between rounds if you wanted.
Eonwe Valar: Aye, that's sort of nice.
Eonwe Valar: Sorry, went afk to get me some hot tea. It's cold here,
hehe.
ArPharazonV: Heh. Not here.
ArPharazonV: It'll be a miracle if we see snow here ;-)
Eonwe Valar: :}
AriehnV: we had a bit snow but it didnt stay
AriehnV: was very wet today and windy .. but also sunshine but thats
skye for you
ArPharazonV: Supposed to be some wet snow here last week but I didn't
see any.
Eonwe Valar: Right now I'd rather there not be snow.
Eonwe Valar: Oh, I did get a heroic scenario in with Bofur and Nob last
week. then we went into VoA (finally had Wintergrasp in a realm I was
sent to, heh) and got the "Earth, Wind, and Fire" Achievement.
ArPharazonV: Ah, grats!
ArPharazonV: Hmm, looks like I have 11 pets still to max up. At 2 or 3
a day... I should get into the Tournament before the next reset is over.
Eonwe Valar: Cool :}
GwaihirValar: This LoL
game between TSM and Cloud 9 is an amazing game. If you have any
interest in the competitive scene for League of Legends, you should be
watching this. It's a really impressive showcase
Eonwe Valar: I've got 6 Burdens of Eternity, and not timeless rings to
use them on.
ArPharazonV: make that 10 to max up ;-)
Eonwe Valar: :}
Eonwe Valar: If they were worthwhile to sell, I would consider selling
a couple just for the room, but at only 5 gold, it's worth more to hold
onto them.
ArPharazonV: Well, honestly, how many rings do you need? 6 seems
excessive
Eonwe Valar: Considering my luck with trying to get the *right* ring,...
ArPharazonV: hehe
Eonwe Valar: trying to get haste/anything, and I'm having no luck.
ArPharazonV: I didn't even know they were that random.
Eonwe Valar: For Timeless Isle, yes.
Eonwe Valar: All the items are random secondary stats.
Eonwe Valar: Except the trinkets, of course.
ArPharazonV: thought they'd be tailored to your class if not your
spec...
Eonwe Valar: Sometimes you end up with a single secondary stat with
more of that stat on the item, but the overall amount of seconday stats
on that item is less than it would be for 2 different secondary stats.
Eonwe Valar: Well, the secondaries will be "appropriate" ie, no Spirit
if you're a Ret Paladin.
Eonwe Valar: But that doesn't guarantee I won't get hit and expertise
together.
ArPharazonV: Fair enough.
ArPharazonV: Ah, just got the achievement for levelling 30 pets up to
lvl 10 ;-)
Eonwe Valar: Congrats :}
ArPharazonV: Thanks!
ArPharazonV: That's actually a lot harder to get than lvl 25, since
many pets you get are already over lvl 10, so you can't level them to
get there.
Eonwe Valar: I've got haste as a single stat a few times, but again,
969-ish haste vs 2 stats at 694?
ArPharazonV: Well if haste is so much better than any other stat...
which could be the case for some specs and stats.
Eonwe Valar: Given the variety and amount of players I've heard
complain that the single-stat version are useless, and the only
argument I've heard on the other side being "they're not supposed to be
BIS", I'm not sure there are too many specs that would give up almost
700 of a second stat to get an extra 300 of one :}
ArPharazonV: Hehe, fair enough.
AriehnV: NN folks :-) skeeo wekk
Eonwe Valar: Sleep well :}
AriehnV: sleep well i mean with fingers on right keys this time alas
Eonwe Valar: :}
AriehnV: *waves*
AriehnV has left the room.
ArPharazonV: namarie!
ArPharazonV: darn
karakedi25: I'm going to log out too--dinner time. Have fun folks.
ArPharazonV: Namarie!
karakedi25: namarie
karakedi25 has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: Sleep well, belatedly :}
ArPharazonV: My battling done for today. Still at 10 to go, but that's
fine.
ArPharazonV: I'm estimating 4 days.
ArPharazonV: saving and sending transcript
