Before-meeting
You have just entered room "valarguildmeetingplace."
ArPharazonV: Aiya
VardaValar1: Aiya Golden One!
ArPharazonV: Aiya!
ArPharazonV: Ehr, already said that half an hour ago. Oh well.
ArPharazonV: Aiya again?
GwaihirValar has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiyata :-)
VardaValar1: That's sort of hi again.
VardaValar1: Aiya Gwaihir :-)
ArPharazonV: Aiya!

VardaValar1: Elen sila lumenn' omentielvo!
VardaValar1: Membership:
VardaValar1: The Games Site Mass Update is going. Please be sure to email your current gaming to Eonwe
.
VardaValar1: Our 16th Valar Guild Anniversary is Oct. 4!
VardaValar1: Congratulations on keeping us going in our Tolkien fan club and gamers' group!
VardaValar1: The theme discussed for it is Light. Eonwe suggested, and I seconded. Any discussion?
ArPharazonV: Right. Still have to do that email.
VardaValar1: Such a theme allows screenshots from games such as
rainbows in the Shire, and other wild light effects. Reflections on
water, for instance, or glowing beings in-game.
VardaValar1: Fireworks
VardaValar1: Objects such as Galadriel's Phial
ArPharazonV: The silmarilli.
VardaValar1: This theme works for screenshots, articles, art, poems, stories, humor, translataions. Pretty much anything.
ArPharazonV: The trees.
VardaValar1: Right! That's the kind of thing!
VardaValar1: Arien the fire Maia becoming the steersman of the sun. Could be a great art or poetry piece.
VardaValar1: Ships of light sent into the sky as stars.
ArPharazonV: Forging the stars from sparks of the anvil.
VardaValar1: The star shining through the reek giving hope to Sam and Frodo.
VardaValar1: Aye
VardaValar1: Fire from Mt. Doom
VardaValar1: (Sauron just walked by, an inspiration.)
GwaihirValar: Convenient ;-)
VardaValar1: heh
VardaValar1: Gimli-(V) suggested the Glittering Caves of Aglarond
VardaValar1: He's downstairs and says hi
ArPharazonV: Ah, that works :-)
VardaValar1: Yes, this is a crazy place.
VardaValar1: The first times the stars, moon, or sun shone and their effects.
VardaValar1: Light from the stars in the eyes of elves.
ArPharazonV: The first time the sun came up on the march of Fingolfin.
ArPharazonV: Flowers growing in their wake.
VardaValar1: Just thinking up light ideas is one thing we can do, as we start our week-long chat marathon!
VardaValar1: Aye :-)
GwaihirValar: Glamdring/Sting/Orcrist shimmering
VardaValar1: Good - and maybe orcish reactions
ArPharazonV: Oh, that's this week, then?
VardaValar1: 4th is this coming Friday
ArPharazonV: Dates fly past me. Right. Starting today then :-)
VardaValar1: So we need to try to keep up AIM and pop in when we can if it goes down.
VardaValar1: Try to keep track of who managed to come by. We see folks we've long missed out on due to time zones.
VardaValar1: Like some Eonwe person. : )
VardaValar1: Oh, that hasn't been all that long? Just feels like it!
ArPharazonV: A few weeks since he healed.
VardaValar1: I'll be putting up the Anniversary page. Maybe a list of light effects we think up could go there?
ArPharazonV: lasers?
VardaValar1: Tolkien book or gaming ones : )
VardaValar1: Tons of light effect in our games. Those can be screenshots we show.
ArPharazonV: Gandalf's fireworks.
VardaValar1: I was even considering the poster of Galadriel with her phial that was put up for the Hobbit movies.
VardaValar1: Right
ArPharazonV: Perhaps even smoke rings are a trick of the light :-)
GwaihirValar: Sadly my new computer doesn't function staying dormant as
my old one did. Windows 8 apparently doesn't like staying running and
will reset itself so I won't be able to maintain the chat this year :-(
VardaValar1: o oh. We may have that happen to others then.
ArPharazonV: And Saruman's robe which was supposed to be white but actually reflected all sorts of colors!
VardaValar1: Just put it up when you can. : )
VardaValar1: Good thought!
VardaValar1: Eagle buddy, you've already helped a ton by being here for the meeting. : )

VardaValar1: Web:
VardaValar1: The anniversary goodies will be on the web, as always.
VardaValar1: Also, we can have events in our respective games.
VardaValar1: A favorite is using fireworks at major towns on Oct 4, more fun in groups of us, also done solo.
VardaValar1: Rides to special locations together.
VardaValar1: Special instance runs could be done, maybe with the idea of light.
VardaValar1: Or going together to a location famed for its light and taking cool screenies.
VardaValar1: Any suggestions anyone wants to send in for the anniversary light theme are welcome. My email awaits!
VardaValar1: See the Membership or Contacts page
VardaValar1: Haikus, drabbles, double drabbles are as welcome as longer items.
VardaValar1: Fangorn-(Valar) just suggested the light from Gandalf's staff.
top
VardaValar1: Gaming:
VardaValar1: Games we've played that are not WoW or LotRO this past week?
ArPharazonV: Starcraft II!
VardaValar1: StarCraft/BroodWar
VardaValar1: Fangorn and myself on SCBW.
ArPharazonV: Did the games required for the week-only
event/achievement, on both the European and American servers, so I've
got the new exclusive portraits :-)
VardaValar1: Huzzah!
ArPharazonV: And a bit more flashgaming as well.
VardaValar1: Diablo 3
GwaihirValar: Final Fantasy XIV, Diablo 3's PS3 version, Kingdom Hearts 1.5 Remix, Tales of Xillia, Dokuro, Pixeljunk Monsters Ultimate HD
VardaValar1: (Strawberry cupcakes with cream filling and icing were
just completed by Gimli-V for Sauron's birthday, being passed around.
Here, you can have a plateful or two each too!)
VardaValar1: That's a wild collection, Gwaihir. : )
ArPharazonV: Thanks!
GwaihirValar: My gaming is eclectic as always
GwaihirValar: lol
VardaValar1: Bilbo-(V) has been playing StarWars: The Old Republic, on game time bought for his birthday by Sauron. He's playing right now.
VardaValar1: SWTOR for Sauron also, as they've been gaming together. I
need to pull that up and game with them this week for sure!
VardaValar1: Gwaihir, any favorites from that collection?
GwaihirValar has left the room.
GwaihirValar has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Welcome back. Hope your wings sustained no damage.
GwaihirValar: To be honest, all of them are turning out quite well. If you're looking for an MMO FFXIV is really well made(wrote about this last week-ish), Diablo 3's console version is much improved over the pc(will be writing about this this week I think), both KH and Xillia are solid JRPGs (review for Xillia going up soon), and if you have a Vita Pixeljunk Monsters Ultimate is one of the best timewasters you can find
VardaValar1: hehe
VardaValar1: We can locate those at Gwaihir's site:
VardaValar1: http://www.shadowedblade.net/
GwaihirValar: http://www.shadowedblade.net/2013/09/impressions-final-fantasy-xiv-pc/ for the FFXIV piece specifically
GwaihirValar: and I'm writing the Xillia one as we speak
VardaValar1: We'll look forward to that. :-)
VardaValar1: WoW:
VardaValar1: Anyone like to comment?
VardaValar1: I did show up there for both Horde and Alliance, even if not all that long.
ArPharazonV: Just doing my thing, I guess. Still doing dailies, haven't really progressed further on the Isle yet.
VardaValar1: Horde is unsettling, with banking goblins in Undercity being mistreated by orcs and such.
VardaValar1: LotRO:
VardaValar1: A patch came out on the 23rd that fixed a number of things
in game play and is said to have fixed the issues with the video cards
that prevented loading.
VardaValar1: I had a few unusual video issues, possibly from those fixes, quickly repaired by re-logs.
VardaValar1: A game helper came on very quickly right after I submitted
a ticket asking what was going on, very nice and recognized the problem
immediately.
VardaValar1: I was impressed by the speed and efficiency, and as always by how nice they are.
VardaValar1: We had some fun grouping in-game, and plans for more
coming up as our gang is beginning to have more high levels again.
VardaValar1: You are of course invited to come in if you ever get the chance. : )
top
VardaValar1: Tolkien:
VardaValar1: I jumped the gun on the topic already, asking about uses of light in Tolkien's works.
VardaValar1: In the other direction, the absence of light is darkness, also used to great effect in the books.
ArPharazonV: (Balrog wings)
VardaValar1: It's like a war between light and dark
VardaValar1: lol - shadowy dark wings, fire within the Balrog banished by Gandalf, two light effects!
karakedi25 has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya Indis :-)
karakedi25: Aiya
ArPharazonV: Aiya!
VardaValar1: Welcome to the Valar Guild 16th Anniversary chat marathon, kicked off by this meeting. : )
VardaValar1: Our anniversary theme this year is light.
VardaValar1: We were commenting on some of the uses by Tolkien of light and the absence of light (darkness).
VardaValar1: For the anniversary, our prompt for creativity is anything
with light: screenshots from games having to do with light for instance.
VardaValar1: And of course articles, art, poems, stories, language comments, humor with some touch of light.
VardaValar1: With the short time left, haikus and drabbles or double drabbles might be good.
VardaValar1: What other light effects did Tolkien use? Repeats are ok. Not being graded!
VardaValar1: Stars reflected in the water as a crown over Durin's head.
ArPharazonV: There was a rainbow to Tol Eressea I don't remember the name of.
VardaValar1: Starts with O...
ArPharazonV: Ol? Or?
ArPharazonV: Om?
VardaValar1: Olore Malle, but with diacritical marks
ArPharazonV: Right.
VardaValar1: Taniquetil aka Oilolosse is Mt. Everwhite
VardaValar1: Adds to the idea of a conflict between light and dark
ArPharazonV: Something of an opposite to Thangorodrim perhaps?
VardaValar1: Melkor is the Dark Lord and was most afraid of the Valie of Light
VardaValar1: Aye
VardaValar1: Morgoth put up reeks trying to hide from the new lights of the Moon and Sun.
GwaihirValar: Gilraen got home so it is time for me to work on dinner. A pleasure as always, folks. :-)
VardaValar1: Namarie!
ArPharazonV: Namarie!
VardaValar1: Thank you for coming and hi to Gilraen!
VardaValar1: *swings a hammer made of light*
ArPharazonV: Can't be very heavy then.
VardaValar1: *photonic explosion, quite pretty*
VardaValar1: At least it wasn't a light saber through the desk.
top
After-meeting:
VardaValar1: Let the chat marathon begin!
ArPharazonV: A lightsaber shaped like a hammer.
VardaValar1: oops
ArPharazonV: I wonder why they didn't invent one.
VardaValar1: Didn't fit the foils they were using?
VardaValar1: That would be another screenie for gaming: light sabers.
VardaValar1: I still use Windows 7, having almost none of the extra devices that Windows 8 is intended to serve,
VardaValar1: so, hopefully, this AIM has a chance of staying up better.
ArPharazonV: I'm not keeping my pc on through the night anyway.
VardaValar1: I may not either.
VardaValar1: Luckily we have different time zones!
VardaValar1: Only 4:48pm here.
VardaValar1: Between us all, we can manage keeping open a marathon chat room. : )
ArPharazonV: Possibly.
VardaValar1: I like the idea of coming up with all the light ideas we can during the week. : )
ArPharazonV: Would help if we had some more people!
VardaValar1: Well, we can keep it up a lot.
VardaValar1: Aye, and we may get them at odd times as we do every year.
VardaValar1: We do need to spread the word!
VardaValar1: Maybe some folks with time zone problems like Helm and Valandil could come in?
ArPharazonV: If you can contact em.
VardaValar1: Message now sent to Menelvagor
VardaValar1: I'll bug some folks in LotRO
ArPharazonV: Looks like Flad's online.
VardaValar1: Yay!
ArPharazonV: Invited.
VardaValar1: Good timing - almost had him invited too. Now we won't cross up.
VardaValar1: We could use his help. :-)
VardaValar1: I'll bet Eonwe will come in when he can, too.
VardaValar1: We could start a thread on the Forum for mentions of light or the absence thereof. : )
VardaValar1: There we go
VardaValar1: It's now under Tolkien/Tolkien Discussion: Light and the Absence Thereof
VardaValar1: I figure on putting the items people list into the starting post.
ArPharazonV: You've got a good list already :-)
VardaValar1: It would be cool if they do a little discussion on the item too but not required. Maybe someone else will talk.
VardaValar1: Aye, but it's not on the Forum yet. ;-)
VardaValar1: There's a ton more. It's a very common mention in the books.
AriehnV has entered the room.
VardaValar1: I purposely left the thread clear of my mentions for the starting, so others can jump in.
VardaValar1: And speaking of light!
AriehnV: ;D
AriehnV: Aiya :-)
ArPharazonV: Aiya Arien!
VardaValar1: Aiya Sunshine, and welcome to the 16th Anniversary of the Valar Guild Chat Marathon!
ArPharazonV: May Arien shine upon our meeting.
VardaValar1: Theme this year is light.
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=discussion&thread=1327
AriehnV: sweet
VardaValar1: Screenies from our games dealing with light are welcome on
our upcoming Anniversary page. Just shoot them to my email.
VardaValar1: Might be able to use some as illustrations in our Encyclopedia
VardaValar1: or people might use them to illustrate their own poems, stories, articles?
VardaValar1: Anyway, we're in After-meeting, and need help holding the
chat room open until next week's meeting, from folks from lots of time
zones.
VardaValar1: Please enjoy posting your ideas on light to the Forum thread, linked now from the News page as well.
ArPharazonV: Will you be adding what has been mentioned in the meeting so far?
VardaValar1: If it's needed to prime the pump.
VardaValar1: I might add some one at a time with a little bit of
discussion, but would like to see others add them. There are so many!
GwaihirValar has left the room.
VardaValar1: The post can also be located at the bottom of the Forum under Forum Statistics/View the 10 most recent posts.
VardaValar1: Ok, I'll be checking back every so often in the chat room
to make sure it's still going, see if anyone said anything, and will
check the forum. : )
karakedi25: logging out--namarie
karakedi25 has left the room.
ArPharazonV: I'll go do a WoW lfr for a bit, but keeping room open for now :-)
VardaValar1: Thanks
AriehnV: Namarie for now folks :-)
ArPharazonV: Namarie!
AriehnV: i ll keep it open for a good while tomorrow
AriehnV has left the room.
VardaValar1: Thanks Arien :-)
ArPharazonV: saving and sending transcript
ArPharazon-V: saved
ArPharazon-V: and sent
ArPharazon-V: Namarie!
ArPharazon-V (ArPharazonV) has left the room.
Gwaihir-Valar (GwaihirValar) has entered the room.
Gwaihir-Valar (GwaihirValar) has left the room.
EonweValar (Eonwe Valar) has entered the room.
EonweValar: Surprise :}
EonweValar: Some extra gaming news for SC2:
EonweValar: http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/blog/11042120/hit-the-books-with-starcraft-ii-savings-and-rewards-9-23-2013
EonweValar: Long story short: play 5 online matches and get a feat of strength + portraits.
EonweValar: Also a bit of late-but-somewhat-obvious-news, due to my
schedule I won't be able to have anything going on Friday, October 4th
on WoW for the guild celebration.
EonweValar: If anyone is able to come, our standard celebration
fireworks/tour is slated to be Wednesday night at 8pm VST, 7pm central.
I hope to be in WoW by then.
EonweValar: If we have interest, time, and ability afterward, we'll see what we can get up to.
EonweValar: Btw, that SC2 thing ends 30sep, so everyone interested is going to want to move fast.
Arien V (AriehnV) has entered the room.
Arien V: Aiya Varda and Eonwe :-) Shift release has arrived
EonweValar: Heya :}
EonweValar: Still playing WoW Arien?
EonweValar: Thought I'd see what you think of 5.4 if you are :}
Arien V: och its quite nice actually. It's a bit of shame that
there is only the Timeless Isle new , more areas would have been nice.
Or new quests could have been added in older areas.
Arien V: But in general it is quite fun. I haven't been in the new raid
yet, still exploring the 5.3. raids and gearing up so i get the item
level.
Arien V: I like the Bronze Flight guys ;;) and of course pulled them in rp wise for one of my Horde Characters already :-)
EonweValar: :}
Arien V: Timeless Isle is nice for gearing up and fun when you go there in a group, else it can be frustrating.
Arien V: What do you think yourself?
EonweValar: So far, I like it.
EonweValar: Siege of Orgrimmar is interesting, the two wings I've seen so far.
EonweValar: Timeless Isle is pretty fun, at least for now, How it holds
up in a couple of months I don't know, but for now it's fun.
EonweValar: Good way to speed gear your alts, hehe.
EonweValar: I like the lore question daily.
Arien V: yup true enought thats fun :-)
Arien V: just doing the game update mail and breakfast .. so brb :-)
EonweValar: Darn, still 5k rep from exalted with Order of the Cloud Serpent on day 2 for my Holy Paladin.
Arien V: meh
Arien V: even with the eggs from the rare on the isle?
EonweValar: I've only found 2 so far.
EonweValar: Maybe I'll get more this round.
Arien V: whats he called again Hulon?
Arien V: something like that
EonweValar: Houlon, aye.
EonweValar: About to fight him.
Arien V: good luck he is a bugger ^^
EonweValar: Aye.
EonweValar: And he still doesn't want to give me the mount he drops :}
Arien V: hehe okay
EonweValar: I do find the Yaungol who charge annoying.
Arien V: they are
Arien V: and flagged from the opposite faction :-P
Arien V: you have to take care with your aoe there
EonweValar: Aye.
Arien V: do you get many on your US server?
EonweValar: And even some single-target attack. My judgement auto-selects. Can be bad.
Arien V: Argent Dawn is really bad with it , and Earthen Ring you get pvpers from other servers coming over alas
EonweValar: I've seen a few. Haven't come across any recently, but it's likely related to when I get in.
Arien V: aye
EonweValar: I was under the impression Timeless Isle wasn't CRZ.
EonweValar: Or I just haven't been paying attention, heh.
Arien V: oh it is
Arien V: Helm has been helping me recently there or we did some blasting and coinfarming
Arien V: we ran some lfrs together too , quite a decent tank
EonweValar: Something I'm not quite understanding though is when some
people say the 535 timeless items are worse than LFR items. Certain
items maybe, compared to certain other items (i.e. LFR T16 maybe is
better than the timeless items that would take those spots), but as far
as I can tell, i.e. rings and amulets, the 535 has higher stats. Last I
checked that made it better, heh.
EonweValar: Cool :}
Arien V: ^^
EonweValar: Granted, I'm referring to those with 2 secondary stats, not a single secondary stat.
Arien V: meh too many alts in too many games hehe .. at least Rift will be fast ;-)
EonweValar: :}
EonweValar: Bah, I just realized I'm swimming the wrong way around the island, and I'm too far along to want to turn back, heh.
Arien V: ah well exercise is good for you :-P
EonweValar: :}
Arien V: okay thats the active games and characters done :-)
EonweValar: Yay :}
ArPharazon-V (ArPharazonV) has entered the room.
ArPharazon-V: Aiya
Arien V: aiya Phar :-)
EonweValar: Heya Phar :}
ArPharazon-V: Just figured I'd drop by. I'll be afk for a lot of it but at least the window'll be open!
Arien V: sure your very wellcome
EonweValar: :}
EonweValar: Well, thanks to the daily reset and an onyx egg I found in
the proces of doing them, I'm now exalted on my Holy
Paladin/Jewelcrafter with the Order of the Cloud Serpent :}
Arien V: grats :-)
EonweValar: Thanks :}
EonweValar: Now I just need some 160k to make all the mounts I just bought, hehe.
Arien V: *gg*
EonweValar: Ok, that's it for me. Unfortunately I can't leave this
computer on, but it was good to see you all. I'll try to be in tomorrow
night too :}
EonweValar: Take care and have fun :}
EonweValar (Eonwe Valar) has left the room.
Arien V: lkhalllo
ArPharazon-V: what?
Arien V: oh i had the computer turned off and aim didntg sign me out ^^
ArPharazon-V: That's odd.
Arien V: yip fairly but well .. hehe i dont mind
Arien V (AriehnV) has left the room.
Arien V (AriehnV) has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya Arien and Phar :-)
VardaValar1: Good to see you got a chance to chat with Eonwe.
VardaValar1: Good to see you two. : )
Arien V: hi there busy at gates ^^
VardaValar1: Go go!
Arien V: pest this guy as melee **
Arien V: General something at Gates of setting sun
