Eonwe Valar: Quick mention of the RP: I've been considering my next post. That's all I have to share on it right now, hehe.
ArPharazonV: I think that's a common activity for us :-)

Eonwe Valar: Do either of you have any comments on the RP, or any preferred Tolkien topic?
Eonwe Valar: OK, quick round of trivia then bang the gavel?
ArPharazonV: Eh, sure, if we can think of questions...

AriehnV: .. hmmmm what kind of Trolls do we have in Lotr turning up?
AriehnV: and where?
ArPharazonV: We have "normal" trolls turned to stone, as the Fellowship comes across them... one with a birdsnest in its ear :-)
Eonwe Valar: I think they were called "Hill-trolls" somewhere..
ArPharazonV: Ah.
Eonwe Valar: They came out of the Etenmoors if memory serves.
AriehnV: yip thats one sort
Eonwe Valar: There's also stone-trolls, I think those were mentioned in the Mordor chapters.
Eonwe Valar: There's Olog-hai, which were mentioned in the battle at the Black Gate.
Eonwe Valar: Those are the only ones I'm coming up with off the top of my head.
ArPharazonV: There was no cave-troll as actively portrayed as in the movie in Moria, but I do believe there were one or two creatures in the book in that bit that could be trolls. Didn't they stab one in the foot, and didn't one attempt to open the door as Gandalf closed it?

AriehnV: Hill Trolls of Gorgoroth .. is the new kind that Sauron bred
AriehnV: then the ones from the Ettenmoors that werent that smart as our three "friends"

AriehnV: i think the ones in the Ettenmoors are the ones referred to as Stone trolls
AriehnV: Olog-hai were without doubt bred by Sauron, but the stock was unknown. They were in fashion of body and mind unlike even the largest Orcs, far surpassing them in size and power. These had been filled with the evil will of their master, being fell, strong, agile, fierce, and cunning, but harder than stone. "Unlike the old race of the Twilight, they could endure the Sun as long as the will of Sauron held sway over them. They spoke little, and the only tongue that they knew was the Black Speech of Barad-dur."

Eonwe Valar: BIfur, Bofur, and Bombur, while descendants of Dwarves from Moria, were not of Durin's line.
ArPharazonV: Ah.

ArPharazonV: Which Durin, though, since I believe from ye olden days that the first Durin was the father of the entire population?
ArPharazonV: The seven fathers and all that :-)
Eonwe Valar: I'm not sure they were "fathers" in the literal sense, but they were the first Dwarves created.
ArPharazonV: Well, you'd think Aulė would also have made some females, at least.
ArPharazonV: ...From ribs, possibly? ;-)
Eonwe Valar: In some version of the creation of Dwarves he did create wives for 6 of the 7 fathers, but apparently the story was never fully settled (there were two or three versions), and the one we get in the Sil doesn't concern itself with that detail, just sort of lumps all the Dwarves together at their creation.
Eonwe Valar: Durin was the one without a mate, for the record.
ArPharazonV: That... could make the whole lineage rather tricky.
