Before-meeting
You have just entered room "valarguildmeetingplace."
ArPharazonV: Aiya!
VardaValar1: Aiya :-)
AriehnV has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya Arien :-)
ArPharazonV: Aiya!
AriehnV: aiya both :-)
AriehnV: i thought i better sign in before i miss the meeting again because of rp hhee
VardaValar1: Smart
VardaValar1: Chatting in LotRO with Hurin over here
AriehnV: :-)
ArPharazonV: Grinding some commissions for a rodent crate, but stopping soon.
VardaValar1: Long as they don't escape the crate. :-)
VardaValar1: also killing possessed bears in their rather large den.
ArPharazonV: They'll be safe until I buy em, then I can battle them!
VardaValar1: oops :-)
VardaValar1: Sending out invitations
top
VardaValar1: Elen sila lumenn' omentielvo!
VardaValar1: Membership news:
VardaValar1: Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers in the guild and the moms of our members!
VardaValar1: Been trying to put up birthdays on the News page, but they
tend to be posted late. The good thoughts are still there, even if
belated. :-)
VardaValar1: Monday was Ar-Pharazon's birthday. :-)
VardaValar1: Barahir's was on the 10th.
ArPharazonV: So was Fladrif's, if I remember right. Not sure.
VardaValar1: I get the dates off the Forum, so if those are right and
the name is recognizable, we may have them on the News right-ish.
ArPharazonV: Yep, according to our membership list, Fladrif's was on the 10th as well.
VardaValar1: Adding it to the News. Thanks!!
VardaValar1: Should show now.
AriehnV: congratulations all
VardaValar1: It doesn't show on the forum for that date, hmmm, have to ask.
VardaValar1: Any other membership news? :-)
ArPharazonV: Is he on the forum?
VardaValar1: College is out for Bilbo and Sauron, presumably other members too.
VardaValar1: Checking
VardaValar1: Yes, shows his birthday as 2/3 and heh
VardaValar1: must be a previous Fladrif. 1950
ArPharazonV: Yes, sounds like a different one :-)
VardaValar1: I can put -ex on that display name to free it for our
current Fladrif. Still lets the old one on so we can tell who is who.
VardaValar1: but not right now. : )
VardaValar1: We may be low on people today for Mother's Day, tends to be a busy family day.
VardaValar1: Eonwe may be missing more often in the future as work
moves around in shifts and it looks as if one is liable to be right
across the meeting now and then.
VardaValar1: Any other membership news?
top
VardaValar1: Web:
VardaValar1: Nothing new for the Tolkien Site. I try to keep something
going most days for the News, and would be glad to post news from any
of you reporters from the guild. :-)
VardaValar1: Toss an email my way and tell me which part you want on the News.

VardaValar1: Gaming:
VardaValar1: Any non-WoW, non-LotRO gaming this past week?
ArPharazonV: Some flashgaming, and also a level of Plants vs Zombies.. but not much.
VardaValar1: The name still sounds amusing. :-)
VardaValar1: SWTOR for Bilbo,
Sauron, and myself. I've added a trooper, been fun but more of a hack
and slash than the Jedi Sage Consular who has more story going.
ArPharazonV: If you want some vaguely interesting flashgame in
progress, here's something that still looks really simple but gets
updated frequently, and is apparently based on runescape:
VardaValar1: Sounds good. Fire away.
ArPharazonV: http://www.kongregate.com/games/brian4/skills-idle
Eonwe Valar has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya Eonwe :-) Phar is telling us some flashgaming :-)
Eonwe Valar: Heya. Sorry I'm late.
Eonwe Valar: Cool :}
ArPharazonV: It looks like fun so far, and more things are added every day, so I've got good hopes for it.
ArPharazonV: Check the updates list to see how far it's come :-)
VardaValar1: No worries. Thanks for handling the things the times I've been late! :-)
Eonwe Valar: :}
ArPharazonV: Aiya Eonwe!
ArPharazonV: And that's it for me.
VardaValar1: Thanks Phar. Should be fun checking that out.
ArPharazonV: Oh, wait, a little MLP based flashgame which can be quite a challenging platformer..
ArPharazonV: if I can find it...
VardaValar1: That should get some clicks from some of our members. :-)
ArPharazonV: Eh, just continue while I look for it.
VardaValar1: Fangorn is on the phone says hi :-)
Eonwe Valar: Heya to Fangorn.
ArPharazonV: Aiya Fangorn
VardaValar1: It was a quick call between working on stuff. :-)
ArPharazonV: http://www.dragon-mango.com/ponygame/tardy/ Here. Was one day further back in my history than I thought, so that's why it took a bit to find it.
VardaValar1: Thanks Phar
VardaValar1: We assume Fladrif has been doing well in the Chess tournament. :-)
VardaValar1: WoW:
VardaValar1: Eonwe, did you have any news?
VardaValar1: Ahh, before I forget,
VardaValar1: a quick game is to go to Google's search bar and type in zerg rush
VardaValar1: Click the evil bugs before they eat the words off the
page, and see your score count at the top right of the page when done.
: )
Eonwe Valar: I don't believe I have any gaming news, no. Darkmoon Faire just ended, and next event is not until June.
VardaValar1: Good to know, thanks.
VardaValar1: Gives us a break to play the main game!
VardaValar1: Phar, how went the rat crate? : )
ArPharazonV: Still on 1875 commissions out of 2000 to get it. I should get it somewhere during the week :-)
ArPharazonV: Quit for today.
VardaValar1: Sounds like it!
VardaValar1: LotRO:
VardaValar1: The big news there is Update 11 coming out on Monday.
VardaValar1: New areas, level cap goes up to 95.
VardaValar1: We have links on the News for various LotRO related fun stuff, including an alt finder
VardaValar1: http://lotroaltfinder.net/
VardaValar1: Some of the new items:
VardaValar1: http://forums.lotro.com/showthread.php?509398-Update-11-Itemization
VardaValar1: Patch notes will be up during down time for the patch
which will start in the morning and, if like others, run most of the
day.
VardaValar1: So I've been runnning like crazy to get my guardian up to 85. At 84 now, been a slacker.
VardaValar1: I don't know if Gorlim's LotRO account is ok, but signs point to it being alright now.
VardaValar1: Anyway, lots of activity in LotRO.
VardaValar1: Any other news, comments?
AriehnV: and .. we had a mini instsnce run with my guardian and Vardas Minnie :-)
VardaValar1: yay us :-)
AriehnV: last tuesday night ... we minced some dragons :-)
AriehnV: or monday night rather
VardaValar1: Minnie and champ mincing of dragons, fast. : )
AriehnV: i still was surprised i could keep halfways aggro hehe
VardaValar1: Yay!
VardaValar1: If your buddies try to let you have it, it helps.
AriehnV: anyway to make it more clear it was a small instance Pembas in Eregion where we had to cull a flock of drakes
AriehnV: was lots of fun
Eonwe Valar: Aye, aggro isn't quite so easy to get and keep in LotRO as
it has become in WoW, as I recall. WoW decided to generally focus tank
attention to other priorities.
AriehnV: thats it from me :-)
Eonwe Valar: Good to hear you had fun :}
VardaValar1: Thanks Sunshine :-)
VardaValar1: Hurin's on with his level 75
VardaValar1: oboy, sorry, typing in the wrong chat window!
top
VardaValar1: Tolkien:
VardaValar1: A short mention from last week's chat on illusion:
VardaValar1: One was Eru's showing Ea to the Ainur. It looked so real that they thought they were entering the real place,
VardaValar1: Another was the illusion used to fool Gorlim, one of
Barahir's outlaws, into thinking he saw his wife inside his old house.
He had believed her dead, and she was. But hope got him.
Eonwe Valar: Would we really consider that "illusion"? "Vision" I think is really a better word.
Eonwe Valar: *Eru's showign Ea to the AInur
VardaValar1: Illusion doesn't have to be a trick, but can be a vision, aye.
VardaValar1: Gandalf as Olorin put visions in the minds of elves as he passed unseen, giving them hope.
ArPharazonV: A vision would be an illusion.
Eonwe Valar: I guess when I hear illusion I think "trick," even in the most innocent way.
VardaValar1: The Valar didn't realize it was not real.
Eonwe Valar: Sleight of hand, fooling of the senses, etc.
VardaValar1: The elven minstrels made illusions as story telling for the other elves, sort of like watching movies for us.
VardaValar1: Aye, illusion does have that connotation, Eonwe. Pardon.
VardaValar1: Some tricks are expected and wanted by the audience, such as at a magic show.
Eonwe Valar: Vision I tend to think more like if I sat down and
described something to you with such detail you could almost see it.
VardaValar1: Reading a book can put a movie-like vision in your head too. : ) Aye.
Eonwe Valar: Only at the level where you actually can see it. I'm not
trying to fool you, I'm imparting some bit of knowledge or insight to
you.
VardaValar1: Aye, the minstrels were doing illusions, but not to fool anyone, just to tell a story and hopefully be edifiying.
VardaValar1: Could call that a sort of vision maybe, but was described as an illusion.
VardaValar1: Anyway, that was all the extra I had left from last time. : )
Eonwe Valar: I obviously need to reread that part.
VardaValar1: It was a very brief mention.
VardaValar1: Any other illusions anyone else wants to mention before a change of subject? : )
VardaValar1: or visions.
VardaValar1: Oh, one more gaming mention:
VardaValar1: NeverWinter: Dungeons and Dragons.
VardaValar1: Elatan mentioned on the forum that he's in there on the server Dragon Shard,
karakedi25 has entered the room.
karakedi25: Aiya
VardaValar1: his name is Makarilli
VardaValar1: Aiya Indis : ) Just about to switch to rp talk, nice timing. : )
VardaValar1: Bilbo is also there on the same server.
VardaValar1: On to the rp : )
VardaValar1: The last post was from Eonwe, might make everyone smile. : )
Eonwe Valar: Heh :}
VardaValar1: Made me smile. ^^
Eonwe Valar: I figured it would be an amusing in-joke for those of us here last week, heh.
Eonwe Valar: *hehe
karakedi25: it was that
VardaValar1: *must find a way to make Auros smile* ;-)
karakedi25: yes, get him away from those Mirkwood pests ;-)
VardaValar1: O no! We're the very ones who might make him smile!
Eonwe Valar: He even sings with his friends (as long as I dont have to write lyrics, hehehe) :}
ArPharazonV: by leaving him alone?
VardaValar1: We can be good pests too. ;-)
karakedi25: He doesn't want to go north with us.
VardaValar1: He won't have a choice. And he might be happy deep down to run with us again.
VardaValar1: Unless we act like we can't stand him, of course. Works both ways.
ArPharazonV: Can't we just leave him behind and see if he catches up?
VardaValar1: heheheh
VardaValar1: That could happen.
VardaValar1: We wouldn't have the staff part that we've been calling a sword, but that wouldn't be enough to stop us.
AriehnV: thats the hilt or the blade end ?
Eonwe Valar: We have the sword.
ArPharazonV: The blade end, I recall.
Eonwe Valar: So the blade-end, aye.
VardaValar1: Auros has the sword, Mirkwoodites don't.
Eonwe Valar: The generic "we" :}
VardaValar1: A staff doesn't usually have a blade, unless it's inside.
Eonwe Valar: As opposed to "they" who are our enemies :}
Eonwe Valar: Unless the staf is really a halberd or glaive :}
VardaValar1: *fires an arrow at a distant orc* O, them!
ArPharazonV: It would be rather a pike or something, if it had a blade at the end of it?
ArPharazonV: Or a halberd? Not sure.
Eonwe Valar: Glaive might be the appropriate term for a European style of the weapon.
VardaValar1: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glaive
Eonwe Valar: Varda beat me to it :}
ArPharazonV: Yes, that'd be it.
VardaValar1: ^^
VardaValar1: Elrond is going to put us into a group before long. He had
better do it soon before the Mirkwood gang heads for Angmar. We have to
protect our land and don't have the allegience thing going for Elrond,
although we have plenty of respect.
Eonwe Valar: Well, the Fellowship has to be about their way first.
That's Elrond's primary task, though most of our group wouldn't know
much if anything about that.
AriehnV: well the part we have would be like nr d ?
Eonwe Valar: ?
VardaValar1: I did not understand that, Arien.
AriehnV: on the glaive page
AriehnV: there are several sketches of glaive shapes
AriehnV: on the top of the page
Eonwe Valar: Hmm
AriehnV: they are lablelled a) to f)
VardaValar1: We haven't ever called the object a glaive before.
Eonwe Valar: I suppose. I don't believe we have a specific shape beyond "scimitar-like" from other uses in the story.
VardaValar1: It was supposed to be part of a staff used by the sorceror/necromancer, wasn't it?
ArPharazonV: d does look kind of orc-blade
VardaValar1: Aye, it does
VardaValar1: Scimitars were a type the goblins were using, iirc.
Eonwe Valar: The sorcerer has the staff, we have the sword, together they're parts of a glaive.
ArPharazonV: But we don't have to restrict ourselves to a model like
that, perhaps the entire thing was never meant to fight with as a whole.
Eonwe Valar: The shape of the blade itself is of little import, just
that it's enough like a standard orc-blade that it didn't seem odd to
anyone who's been handling it.
Eonwe Valar: I knwo you guys aren't going to wade through all this
agian, fi you did the first time, but for reference, here's my last big
dig through our conversations on this stuff: http://valarguild.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=meorp2&action=display&thread=1140
ArPharazonV: That really is a lot of stuff.
VardaValar1: Thanks for doing all that digging. :-)
Eonwe Valar: MP :} I had the time for it at the time, hehe.
Eonwe Valar: Now I'm trying to find the discussion where I first mentioned it could be a glaive, hehe.
Eonwe Valar:
http://valarguild.org/varda/guild/transcripts/2012/tranMay27_2012.htm#Tolkien
Maybe not it, but it's where we try to get to some of the basic
questions.
Eonwe Valar: Hmm, sounds like by this conversation we'd already come to conclusion/agreement the two were part of a whole.
Eonwe Valar: Hehe, I just got reminded by reading this the following:
Eonwe Valar: "Ok, so we have a ring in the mix. /facepalm" I won't
point out who said it, but it's how I'm feeling right now, hehe.
VardaValar1: ^^
Eonwe Valar: Aha! http://valarguild.org/varda/guild/transcripts/2012/tranApril15_2012.htm#RP
Eonwe Valar: 15 days before I completed my digging.
VardaValar1: That's a lot.
ArPharazonV: Nice find.
AriehnV: Namarie all :-)
AriehnV has left the room.
ArPharazonV: Namarie!
VardaValar1: Namarie Arien :-)
top
VardaValar1: Calling After-meeting
VardaValar1: Just lots of side windows going now.
ArPharazonV: All people wanting your attention?
VardaValar1: or someone's and I happen to be here, heh.
VardaValar1: Mainly the talk seems to have died down.
ArPharazonV: Saving and sending transcript.
VardaValar1: Thank you, Golden One. :-)
ArPharazon-V: saved
EonweValar: One or both of those meeting minutes I linked have where we lay down some of our prime goals.
ArPharazon-V: That statement will go on Varda's transcript I assume! [Note: why yes, yes it will.]
ArPharazon-V: and sent
ArPharazon-V: Namarie folks!
EonweValar: Sleep well Phar :}
EonweValar: And belatedly sleep well to Arien, who I realize left some time ago :}
ArPharazon-V (ArPharazonV) has left the room.
karakedi25: Dinner time for me--namarie
karakedi25 has left the room.
EonweValar: Bon Apetit, belatedly, Indis :}
EonweValar: I guess it's down to us, hehe.
VardaValar1: Hiya :-)
EonweValar: Heya :}
VardaValar1: The room is ours!
VardaValar1: We win?
VardaValar1: I figure as long as two Valarites show up to a meeting, we can have a meeting. So far it hasn't been that bad yet!
EonweValar: :}
