Before-meeting:
You have just entered room "valarguildmeetingplace."
mcioutpost has entered the room.
ArPharazonV: Welcome, nobody else here yet, though ;-)
mcioutpost: Of course. Not my weekend. I was re-fighting Jutland and it was my German battleships that kept blowing up.
Eonwe Valar has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: Heya.
ArPharazonV: Aiya!
ArPharazonV: What game is that then, Nar?
mcioutpost: Clash of Dreadnaughts - I was playing most of yesterday.
ArPharazonV: Ah.
Eonwe Valar: Give me a couple of minutes and we'll begin the meeting.
GwaihirValar has entered the room.
GwaihirValar: hello
ArPharazonV: Aiya!
Eonwe Valar: OK, let's begin.
top
Eonwe Valar: Elen Sila Lumenn Omentielvo!
Eonwe Valar: Membership:
Eonwe Valar: Varda and Fangorn are out of town right now.
Eonwe Valar: You all are here :}
Eonwe Valar: Any other Membership news?
ArPharazonV: Only that I need to arrange with you when we're on SCII beta together ;-)
Eonwe Valar: :}

Eonwe Valar: Web:
Eonwe Valar: Looks like the old news was moved to the news archive, but nothing else at the moment.
Eonwe Valar: Don't forget you can write Tolkien articles, stories, or
poetry, and send them to Varda for inclusion on the Tolkien Site. :}
Eonwe Valar: http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/frames/Tsitefrms.htm
Eonwe Valar: Check out what we have to see what you can do :}

Eonwe Valar: Gaming:
Eonwe Valar: WoW:
Eonwe Valar: Patch 5.2 is probably going to be here at the end of the month.
ArPharazonV: It is. I think there's even a date already floating around.
Eonwe Valar: Feb 26th I believe is the last Tuesday of the month, and the date floating around.
Eonwe Valar: All dates are of course subject to pushback if something goes terribly wrong :}
ArPharazonV: Heh, yes.
Eonwe Valar: Save your Valor Points, because they're letting you keep
them, and the gear purchasable for VP are going down in in price after
the patch.
ArPharazonV: I'm spending them on Item upgrades myself, since that npc is going to disappear with the patch.
Eonwe Valar: I want to be able to throw my items into void storage, so I'm refraining from upgrading them.
ArPharazonV: You can't void storage upgraded items?
Eonwe Valar: That's what they said when they launched the upgrade feature.
ArPharazonV: "What most of you are probably running into is that
upgrade-able items currently cannot be placed into Void Storage. This
is a bug we're working on and I'm adding it to the known issues list."
That's a blue post from December.
ArPharazonV: Hoping it might be fixed by now :-)
Eonwe Valar: Hehe. I hadn't seen anything on it since the announcement
it couldn't go into Void Storage. I didn't see any mention of it being
a bug.
Eonwe Valar: Lothar: Elwing got to fight the Sha of Anger this weekend :}
Eonwe Valar: LotRO:
AriehnV has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: I'm afraid I don't have anything on LotRO to report. Nar,
do you happen to know of any guildies getting together tp runs stuff
this past week?
mcioutpost: No, my highest isn't up to the usual groups yet.
Eonwe Valar: OK, thanks.
AriehnV: i have a little report and aiya :-)
AriehnV: from Lotro
Eonwe Valar: Thanks and heya Arien :} Go ahead.
AriehnV: Varda had been helping my Guardian a bit with quests in whats it called .. Forochel
AriehnV: it was a week or a bit more since then but didnt manage to mention it last week
AriehnV: we killed a few drakes and angmarim
AriehnV: thats about it :-)
Eonwe Valar: Cool :}
AriehnV: also a quick mention that i am back on sto as well .. finally installed it on this machine [Note: Star Trek Online]
AriehnV: there are no us / europe segregation rules
Eonwe Valar: So anyone can join any server.
AriehnV: so if people want to add me in case they play ...
AriehnV: there is just one server
AriehnV: AnneBonnie@ArienV
Eonwe Valar: Even better? :}
ArPharazonV: Must be crowded then.
AriehnV: its free to play , they have their third anniversary
AriehnV: and quite fun if you want something different
AriehnV: download is not massive either
ArPharazonV: Imagine if WoW or LotRO had only one server...
AriehnV: and yus .. its a bit full ^^
AriehnV: but doesnt really matter since episode missions are soloable and you land in yoiur instance thingy like in guildwars 1
Eonwe Valar: I'd rather not imagine WoW or LotRO with one server. It wouldn't be pretty, hehehe.
ArPharazonV: Oh, that's nice. I liked the GW1 system.
AriehnV: feels a bit like Star Trek really :-)
AriehnV: you meet old friends ... Yasha Tar for example
AriehnV: or in one of the earlier ones Bones and that lot
Eonwe Valar: Tasha Yar? Isn't she supposed to be dead?
ArPharazonV: I think she died pretty early on in the series, yes.
AriehnV: oh yus .. but its a wrong timelime you see
AriehnV: mission is to p;ut it rifght
Eonwe Valar: ok.
ArPharazonV: ...But wouldn't putting it right, kill her?
AriehnV: luckily you dont get it to that but yes eventually it would come to that
AriehnV: i wont spoil it \:-)
AriehnV: anyway thats it from me
Eonwe Valar: Thanks :}
Eonwe Valar: Starcraft 2:
Remember if you're in the Heart of the Swarm beta, join channel Valar.
That's our basic get-together channel for any game that has chat
channels.
ArPharazonV: Played a bunch of beta earlier in the week, getting a few
levels... I've got good hopes that I'll get the 5 levels on each race
before the beta ends.
Eonwe Valar: Good luck :}
ArPharazonV: You want to meet in SCII somewhere during/after the meeting, Eonwe? So we don't keep missing each other :-)
Eonwe Valar: If you're playing regular Starcraft 2, join channel Valar as well :}
Eonwe Valar: Sounds good :}
Eonwe Valar: I'm testing the clans and groups features for Heart of the
Swarm right now, see what we've got for when it launches.
Eonwe Valar: Any other gaming news?
ArPharazonV: Well
Eonwe Valar: Anyone play anything besides WoW or LotRO?
ArPharazonV: I got an email from Varda concerning a game.
ArPharazonV: She said she'd received an email from Dark Age Wars, a sort of browser RTS thing, at http://www.darkagewars.com/
ArPharazonV: and wondered if I was interested. I took a look at it, and
these kinds of things are not my preferred game-style, but I figured
that since Varda mentioned them (and their wanting to be featured in a
link on our site), I'd mention it here anyway.
ArPharazonV: Also, more flashgaming from me ;-)
ArPharazonV: Anyway, that's it from me.
Eonwe Valar: Thanks.
Eonwe Valar: Any other gaming news? Now would be a good time to whisper me a Tolkien topic as well.
Eonwe Valar: Any other business before moving into Tolkien?
top
Eonwe Valar: Tolkien:
Eonwe Valar: If you're here, type Fastitocalon.
ArPharazonV: That.
Eonwe Valar: I typed it out, so you can see how it's spelled :} It's not like I'm asking you vocally to write it down :}
ArPharazonV: Fastitocalon
ArPharazonV: there, copied
Eonwe Valar: Cheater :}
Eonwe Valar: It's just me and Phar?
mcioutpost: ?
ArPharazonV: And then there were 3.
mcioutpost: First meeting so I'm just sitting and listening.
Eonwe Valar: We're in Tolkien now. No one suggested a topic, so we're
going to do a round of trivia. I need to know who all is here so I know
who gets to ask a question that we all get to try and answer.
Eonwe Valar: I usually do that by asking everyone here to type some word or name from Tolkien I randomly choose, hehe.
AriehnV: fasti ...
ArPharazonV: Pff, it's always the same one.
Eonwe Valar: Today was Fastitocalon, the giant turtle-fish of lore.
Eonwe Valar: No, I sometimes use Manwë, or Valinor, or Aman, hehe.
AriehnV: hmm how about Zirak-zzigil
Eonwe Valar: Hehe, if I haven't used that one, I'll have to in the future :}
AriehnV: :-)
AriehnV: and there we go for the first trivia question
AriehnV: name the dwarven names and their elven translation of the mountains of eregion
AriehnV: lyou know the three relevant for us
Eonwe Valar: Ouch.
ArPharazonV: Ehr. I might want to fetch the book for that. Though it seems you've given us the first one already :-)
Eonwe Valar: Half of one.
AriehnV: ^^
Eonwe Valar: I want to say Tumunzahar, and Fanuidhol, but I don't guarantee they're the same peak, hehe.
ArPharazonV: I am quite terrible at languages, so unless I'm allowed to
look them up (and I'll need to grab a book to pluck a trivia question
out of anyway) they're all yours, Eonwe
Eonwe Valar: Caradhras *should* be Zirak-zigil if I remember corredctly.
Eonwe Valar: *correctly
Eonwe Valar: Unless Nar knows the answer :}
mcioutpost: Don't look at me.
Eonwe Valar: Oh no! The one Dwarf among us doesn't know these peaks! We're doomed! :}
AriehnV: Barazinbar .. Caradhras ..
AriehnV: Celebdil Zirak Zigil
AriehnV: Fanuidhol Bundushatur ^^
Eonwe Valar: OK, then I need to go look up what Tumunzahar was obviously :}
ArPharazonV: A bit further to the west, Eonwe :-)
Eonwe Valar: Aha, Tumunzahar was Nogrod.
Eonwe Valar: At least it was something Dwarvish, hehe :}
AriehnV: hehe nice one
Eonwe Valar: Good question Arien. Shows we need to go reread the chapter on Moria :}
Eonwe Valar: Or at least I do :}
ArPharazonV: As if we need an excuse to reread LotR.
Eonwe Valar: :}
Eonwe Valar: Never hurts :}
Eonwe Valar: Phar's turn to ask a question, if he's ready :}
mcioutpost has left the room.
ArPharazonV: Hmm, staring at the map to find a geographical question.
ArPharazonV: Allright, name... 3 provinces of Gondor, please!
ArPharazonV: And by provinces I mean the areas south of the White Mountains.
AriehnV: Lebenin
ArPharazonV: That's 1!
AriehnV: Morthond?
Eonwe Valar: Lamedon
ArPharazonV: Lamedon is correct. Morthond, however, appears to be a river.
Eonwe Valar: Dol Amroth.
AriehnV: yes .. i remember now .. the river that comes out of the ghostmountain
ArPharazonV: And that's 3!
AriehnV: :-) grats Elrond
ArPharazonV: There are also Belfalas and Anfalas, and perhaps we could even count Andrast in the southwest corner.
Eonwe Valar: Elrond?
Eonwe Valar: OK, let's see...
Eonwe Valar: Name 3 gifts Bilbo left to be given out after he left the Shire.
ArPharazonV: A mirror, a pen and a set of silver spoons.
AriehnV: an umbrella ... a bookshelf ... a sack of potatoes
Eonwe Valar: Apparently we've all read that chapter alot :}
ArPharazonV: haha
AriehnV: hah bonus question :~D
AriehnV: who received what for whch reason :P?
Eonwe Valar: The spoons went to Lobelia because she had the rest of them (or so Bilbo assumed and was probably right).
AriehnV: the mIRROR
ArPharazonV: The pen (and inkbottle) went to someone who didn't answer any letters, I think...
Eonwe Valar: The mirror to Angelica Baggins because she was rather vain.
AriehnV: Went to Angela baggins a niece because wshe was quite vain .. hehe aye snap
Eonwe Valar: I want to say the potatoes went to the Gaffer, heh.
ArPharazonV: Could be, but I don't remember a reason.
AriehnV: I am sure they did :-) actually wasnt named i think .. just hthat it went to some poorer folk where they were wanted
Eonwe Valar: Ah.
Eonwe Valar: I don't remember names for the people who got the other gifts off the top of my head.
AriehnV: umbrella was an aunt who never brought one when she came and failed to give them back i think
AriehnV: cant remember the name tho .. lets check
ArPharazonV: something like "for your very own", I think? :-)
AriehnV: was a guy Adelaard Took For his very own .. since he took many and never returne them
Eonwe Valar: Hehe.
Eonwe Valar: And the bookshelf?
AriehnV: Hugo Bracegirdle
AriehnV: he borrowed lots of books and never returned them
ArPharazonV: ...I wonder how Bilbo ever managed to keep anything in his
house without losing it to some neighbour or family member.
Eonwe Valar: Hehehe.
ArPharazonV: Spoons, umbrellas, books...
AriehnV: I also like the paper basket to Dora Baggins *in memory of a long correspondence*
AriehnV: .she had written realms of advice for more than half a century ^^
Eonwe Valar: Hmm, one wonders if that was a take on the quality of the
correspondence, or the numeroud drafts that had to be written and
tossed before the final letter could be sent.
ArPharazonV: Or simply the sheer amount of letters.
Eonwe Valar: Aye.
Eonwe Valar: Well, looks like nar escaped before he got a chance to ask a question :}
ArPharazonV: Probably saw it coming!
Eonwe Valar: Hopefully he'll join us for more meetings. He's bound to
have another chance to ask a trivia question in the future :}
Eonwe Valar: For now, shall we bang the gavel?
ArPharazonV: Should I hop into SCII beta for a bit?
ArPharazonV: If you're there?
Eonwe Valar: Aye, I'll pop in and meet you in channel Valar.
Eonwe Valar: *Bangs gavel*
top
Eonwe Valar: Aftermeeting :}
AriehnV: :-)
AriehnV: have fun
AriehnV has left the room.
ArPharazonV: Belated namarie, Arien!
ArPharazonV: Allright, I'm in.
Eonwe Valar: I'm guessing that's you :}
ArPharazonV: That's me, yes, with my most common online name, certainly the one my WoW and SCII friends know me by :-)
Eonwe Valar: :}
Eonwe Valar: I was hoping refreshing the channel would show you
correctly in the member list. Didn't work. Guess it takes a while.
Eonwe Valar: Group/clan windows, rather.
ArPharazonV: Maybe when I log in again next time.
Eonwe Valar: At least we got you in :}
ArPharazonV: Very true!
ArPharazonV: Logging in again didn't do the trick.
Eonwe Valar: Darn.
Eonwe Valar: Sounds like something else for them to work out.
ArPharazonV: saving and sending transcript
