Before-meeting
You have just entered room "valarguildmeetingplace."
VardaValar1 has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya
ArPharazonV: Aiya!
VardaValar1: It's that time. :-)
AriehnV has entered the room.
Iryenth has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya Arien and Gilraen :-)
Iryenth: Aiya
VardaValar1: Thank you all for coming. : )
ArPharazonV: Aiya both!
top
VardaValar1: Elen sila lumenn' omentielvo!
VardaValar1: A star shines on the hour of our meeting.
VardaValar1: Membership:
AriehnV: Aiya ^^
VardaValar1: Greetings from Sauron and Bilbo on this side of the screen.
VardaValar1: And Eonwe is coming online. : )
Eonwe Valar has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: Heya all.
VardaValar1: Aiya Eonwe : )
VardaValar1: Currently in Membership, in case you have any news?
Eonwe Valar: Aside from spending the last few days snowed in, no, hehe.
VardaValar1: We've been seeing old friends from way back pop into LotRO since the expansion, a pleasure.
VardaValar1: Snowed in! Wow, In Dallas?
VardaValar1: 47 F here
VardaValar1: Hope that means you get to game more. ;-)
VardaValar1: I'm seeing messages that typing is going on, but it must be elsewhere. : )
top
VardaValar1: Web:
VardaValar1: Nothing new at the moment.
VardaValar1: One reason for this is I haven't been going outside the
guild for new things lately. I should probably return to that.

VardaValar1: Gaming:
VardaValar1: Any non-WoW, non-LotRO gaming this past, snowy week?
VardaValar1: Sauron, Bilbo, and Gimli have been on SWTOR. Sauron is there right now.
ArPharazonV: Bit of flashgaming. Not much special.
VardaValar1: Thanks for screening them ahead for us. : )
ArPharazonV: Heh.
ArPharazonV: Well, if something's not my taste it could be the number
one game in the world and you'd still not hear about it from me ;-)
VardaValar1: hehe
ArPharazonV: Oh, one thing, but that's still some way away;
VardaValar1: Phar, that's why we throw it open to all to comment. : )
VardaValar1: Any WoW comments? News?
ArPharazonV: Legends of Equestria (a MLP mmo, fanmade) is having
another open server weekend late January, if people are interested.
http://www.legendsofequestria.com/ is their website.
VardaValar1: ahh, thanks. Good to give folks a head's up.
ArPharazonV: I only spent a few hours in the last one, but it's fun to see how far they've gotten and how much they've made.
VardaValar1: There's some folks who will definitely be checking it out with great interest.
VardaValar1: WoW:
VardaValar1: Eonwe, you had some news?
Eonwe Valar: Aye.
Eonwe Valar: First, Feast of Winterveil is coming up, so get ready for some Christmas fun, WoW-style, hehe.
ArPharazonV: Ah. More hunting for the lump of coal. That'll be fun.
VardaValar1: Just check my sock over the fireplace. : )
Eonwe Valar: Also, I noticed that despite the several warriors in the
guild, we still needed a lvl 85 Dwarf Warrior for the "Classy Dwarves"
guild achievement, so after some 7 or 8 or so years, Sulenar has gone
from level 2 to level 22(ish) in an effort to make that happen.
Eonwe Valar: He since his creation, he's been lvl 2, and he got 20ish levels in about 24 hours :}
ArPharazonV: Hah, not bad.
VardaValar1: Go go Dwarf Warrior!
Eonwe Valar: Of course, it was near the end that I thought about
getting the heirlooms from the guild vendor to speed up the process :}
VardaValar1: hehe
VardaValar1: At least not afterwards!
Eonwe Valar: That's it for me :}
VardaValar1: Thanks, Eonwe
karakedi25 has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Any other WoW comments?
karakedi25: aiya
ArPharazonV: Well, Darkmoon Faire's over, I hope everyone got what they wanted or they'll have to wait another month.
VardaValar1: Aiya Indis :-)
ArPharazonV: As for me, I got a bunch more pets I liked from the
Timeless Isle; and with every pet I get, that's less rare mobs I have
to camp out for ;-)
ArPharazonV: Hopefully I'll have all of them before the expansion!
VardaValar1: Good luck! May your camping gear remain in good condition, as in not-gnawed-by-pets.
ArPharazonV: Hopefully :-)
VardaValar1: LotRO:
VardaValar1: The Yule Festival is the next festival coming up.
VardaValar1: We've had more grouping in the new Helm's Deep instances,
from duo's to 6-mans to 12-mans, joining in with folks from the friend
channel mostly. We have several kin leaders in there.
VardaValar1: Any other LotRO news?
top
VardaValar1: Tolkien:
VardaValar1: RP: no posts seem to have been added after my last one.
Feel free, or let us know here what you would like to see us do next.
ArPharazonV: Yep, sorry, completely forgot. Will give it another shot
this week. Not tonight though; got some things to catch up on.
VardaValar1: Cool. We'll look forward to reading your post. : )
karakedi25: I'm not sure where the RP is going, so I haven't posted for Meren.
ArPharazonV: It'll go where we take it ;-)
VardaValar1: We go where the characters' goals take us.
Eonwe Valar: Long-term: To Angmar; Near future: North of Rivendell; Right now: our stay in Rivendell.
VardaValar1: What goals do our characters have that are driving us?
VardaValar1: Our stay in Rivendell requires goals as well.
VardaValar1: Fainan is now in wait mode for those two information scouts.
VardaValar1: We're trying to learn what we need to do when we hit Angmar and how to reach it in one piece.
AriehnV: hmm in the long run this sword quest thing contributes to Middlearths saftety as much as the disposal of the ring
ArPharazonV: I suppose Calion will be hanging around some more and
maybe talking to people before a moment of departure is announced.
karakedi25: Meren is sopping up as much of Rivendell and its stored lore as she can while we wait.
AriehnV: Frali at the moment is just enjoying the time with is two
cousins and learning what he can about smithing or ore or even about
Elves who knows what that talk with the healer did to him ^^
VardaValar1: Meren might discover something at Rivendell that makes her
really want to go do original research in Angmar, hopefully related to
our mission of saving Mirkwood and stopping the sorceror and saving our
possessed friend.
VardaValar1: Group seems to be on vacation. : )
VardaValar1: Meanwhile, Fainan is feeling antsy knowing valuable time
is slipping by, and we still have a long journey just to get there.
AriehnV: and practising his combat skills of course . and enjoying the wine and food of course .. dwarf is dwarf ^^
ArPharazonV: Tourism!
VardaValar1: Meanwhile the sorceror is reaching Angmar ahead of us and
going about his plans. The brother is liable to be more and more
difficult to rescue as time passes. Mirkwood is closer to being
attacked.
VardaValar1: We need a good route, understanding of what the sorceror
is trying to do, a way to foil his attack, and a way to unpossess so he
doesn't have a body to work with.
VardaValar1: Only clue we currently have is that sword.
Eonwe Valar: The sorcerer still had to clear Mirkwood, just like us,
and head toward Gundabad to make it through whatever paths he could
find that far north through the Misty Mountains.
karakedi25: If Meren discovers anything in her studies at Rivendell, she will certainly share it with the group.
VardaValar1: He can probably go right through Gundabad. Not hostile territory for him as it is us.
VardaValar1: What would we like to have Meren discover?
Eonwe Valar: Even orcs fight with other orcs.
VardaValar1: Maybe Frali can pick up some info gem that fills in a hole for what Meren is researching.
AriehnV: oh by the way i found something on you tube which might be of
interest ;-) i found it very beatuiful haunting and very very celtic in
tradition and ... guess you ll find out :-)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mllXxyHTzfg
VardaValar1: Can Calion use animal scouts ahead of us? Maybe a switch on spying crebain for spying cave swallows or some such?
VardaValar1: Thank you, Arien.
AriehnV: and yes Frali can find something
ArPharazonV: Oh yes, I was planning that as we went along. Sending
birds ahead of us to scout the area for enemies and landscape features.
VardaValar1: Be amusing if one commented that Radagast suggested they
help out. : ) The sorceror isn't too good for our critters either! Just
ask Helvy about that.
VardaValar1: Ok, so Meren's hitting the books again, and is pretty much the only one of us working on the mission?
karakedi25: And talking to the LMs in Riv.
ArPharazonV: I suppose I could have some birds do some scouting ahead already. But it wouldn't make much sense around Rivendell.
ArPharazonV: And let's not pretend that Meren's only hitting the books for the sake of the mission ;-)
VardaValar1: We're mostly stuck sitting on our hands, as far as Fainan can see. She's not happy.
VardaValar1: One hopes she remembers the mission at least on the side. ;-)
karakedi25: Of course she's doing it for herself as well as the mission, Phar.
karakedi25: But she's hardly forgotten it.
VardaValar1: Fainan won't be able to sit still very long if she can't
see progress. She's a scout and wants to be out scouting, her system of
collecting info, the way Meren hits the books for info.
VardaValar1: She kind of feels like Auros might have washed his hands
of Mirkwood's danger. Just not his problem, so she's not really looking
to him for any leadership.
AriehnV: Frali wants to be useful , he wants to proof he is not the clumsy one or the one who always runs into trouble
VardaValar1: That's ok. Fainan will run into enough trouble for both of them. ;-)
AriehnV: remember he blames himself partly for the death of his friend
during his ill fated trip to well not Moria not even halfways there ^^
AriehnV: if you rember the story
VardaValar1: We also lost another dwarf who was supposed to be
scouting, pulled away by other dwarves on a mission rather than killed.
You might get to tweak that story bit with Frali at some point.
AriehnV: he wants to put some things right or do things right
VardaValar1: Fainan's mostly just worried for Mirkwood. The elves have
been pushed a long way, the forest has darkened and is being overrun.
This could be the last straw that destroys their woodland way of life.
ArPharazonV: And we've lost a human, and an eagle...
VardaValar1: Where else can they go? Sure don't want to be under Noldorin rule.
VardaValar1: Aye - a wizard's pupil, and an eagle type that stayed at the forest's edge.
karakedi25: Lothlorien isn't Noldor-ruled, but it's still not home.
VardaValar1: Meren might run across something that ties in with one or both of those.
VardaValar1: Lothlorien is ruled by Galadriel, not exactly Sindarin or Silvan.
karakedi25: The wizard's pupil is that overdone lore-master who was in the earlier chapters?
VardaValar1: Lore-masters in LotRO weren't yet set up in a final form. It was a good guess.
karakedi25: Celeborn is probably if not Sindarin, at least Telerin. And most of the aristocracy is Sindar, I believe.
VardaValar1: This story was originally written before LotRO came out using guesses from hints.
VardaValar1: Celeborn is Sindarin.
karakedi25: is that the one you were referring to?
AriehnV: isnt he a grandson of Thingol?
AriehnV: somehting like that?
VardaValar1: Galadriel with her Ring is making a static place, not something forward-going.
karakedi25: Tolkien had various theories about him, and as far as I know, none was definitive.
ArPharazonV: Related to Thingol, yes, but I don't remember him having a grandson. Well, besides the obvious one.
VardaValar1: I wasn't talking about Celeborn but Galadriel.
VardaValar1: There were brothers.
karakedi25: I know that Galadriel was Noldorin.
AriehnV: ah i see
VardaValar1: The static lives under the Rings don't appeal that much to the Mirkwoodites.
karakedi25: As I said, not home.
Eonwe Valar: Assuming the average Mirkwoodite knows that's why Lothlorien is preserved the way it is?
karakedi25: They wouldn't know about the ring of course. Thranduil *might.*
VardaValar1: Ok, so we are at the "gathering information" stage still.
What info should our characters find? Who finds what? When can we leave
this "short stop".
VardaValar1: Thranduil may or may not know, but he would certainly suspect. He knows those three
VardaValar1: Rings weren't unmade.
Eonwe Valar: Auros has the sword in his keeping. He'll find out what we need to know for that.
VardaValar1: We're going to have a static story until we get some info.
VardaValar1: Auros may have to chase Fainan down on the way to Angmar. ;-)
Eonwe Valar: Hehe.
Eonwe Valar: Auros' story at this time mostly involves his interaction with his friends. Character-building and all that.
AriehnV: you said for Frali *find a gem of information"* like what?
AriehnV: that the sword is only part of a bigger weapon?
VardaValar1: Perhaps Gloin would realize from Frali's description or
drawing that it looks like it's abnormal, unfinished, part of something
else. Although he doesn't know what.
Eonwe Valar: I'm not sure how Frali would glean that information.
karakedi25: Waiting for Elrond to tell Auros he's still stuck with the Mirkwood bunch :-) :-P
VardaValar1: That's going to be amusing. Poor Auros.
Eonwe Valar: As a reminder to those sifting through books:
Eonwe Valar: *Those with characters sifting through books
VardaValar1: *wiped dust off books and hands them to Meren*
VardaValar1: *wipes
Eonwe Valar: 'Elrond rose from his seat, walked over to a shelf – one
that did not require a ladder to reach – and, gliding his finger along
the spines, found a bound volume and slid it from its place. He set the
volume in front of Meren. “This will tell you all of which it is
permitted to speak on this matter.” Walking to another shelf, he
withdrew another bound volume, somewhat thicker than the previous, and
set it in the center of the table.
Eonwe Valar: Placing his hand on it and looking at Calion, he said,
“This volume contains descriptions of conditions like that you speak of
in your brother, afflicting both Quendi and Atani. Included among these
conditions are sufferings from dealing with the Houseless, and a
condition seen in some elves of the First Age, who, being captured by
the first Dark Lord, were released by him to sow mistrust among the
Eldar. Something in here may be of use to you.”'
VardaValar1: Excellent.
Eonwe Valar: That's what Elrond gave the characters to start with the
investigate the matters of Calaron, the ring he apparently wore, and
his condition.
Eonwe Valar: The orc-sword is being examined by one of Rivendell's smiths.
VardaValar1: As far as we know, it's just locked up somewhere.
Eonwe Valar: Link to that post:
http://valarguild.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=gotopost&board=meorp
2&thread=1162&post=5509
karakedi25: Meren knows that a wide acquaintance with information can
come in handy at unexpected times, so she's going beyond the little
book to learn as much as she can.
Eonwe Valar: There might also be history in the library related to incidents involving similar weapons.
karakedi25: from others as well as from books
Eonwe Valar: Indeed.
VardaValar1: Elrond mentions scouts, possibly the same ones Auros spoke of.
Eonwe Valar: Auros spoke of some scouts, aye, likely the same ones Elrond mentioned. Malril spoke of border guards.
VardaValar1: Any other comments about the RP. What we want to post next?
VardaValar1: Alrighty then. We've gone an extra half hour since our
Pathfinder game was cancelled. Hope everyone got some ideas out of
this! : )
VardaValar1: *the hammer swings*
VardaValar1: *thomp!*

VardaValar1: After-meeting!
VardaValar1: Be free. : )
AriehnV: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jPvu9RaGRTo for you guys as well Varda and i are watching the life premiere on you tube
AriehnV: from the desolation of smaug
AriehnV: kind of interesting to see the guys the actors
VardaValar1: Some scenes from the movie too.
ArPharazonV: Soon I'll watch the first movie for the first time. Maybe I'll save that one for after :-)
VardaValar1: "No dishonor in turning back..." ^^
VardaValar1: That's a bit of honest fear, heh.
AriehnV: yeah but else i feel that my Dwarf is a bit out of place at the moment
AriehnV: i know he wont be in the rp i mean
AriehnV: but not yet
AriehnV: apart form this little lapse with the sword ^^
VardaValar1: Fainan feels out of place too. Might have a bit of bonding over that.
AriehnV: we could work with that aye
karakedi25: Would any of the MW elves feel *in* place?
VardaValar1: Calion is a bit out of place too.
ArPharazonV: A bit. But I'm making do, mostly in the outside.
VardaValar1: Meren could be a very happy camper and want to live in
Rivendell. Be interesting to see if she has anything that bothers her
about being there.
VardaValar1: Fainan's glad to be with Calion outside. : )
karakedi25: The attitude of the Noldor, represented by Auros.
VardaValar1: Lot of other Noldor around. Also, the others in the library seemed to be avoiding Mirkwoodites, all of us.
karakedi25: She's getting on ok with the LMs, because of shared
interests, but Auros burned her, and she's not easy with the others.
VardaValar1: Smaug's place reminds me a lot of Thorog's. : ) Like we've been there.
Eonwe Valar: Noldor have lots of different attitudes. Kind of like people in that way,.... :}
karakedi25: Yes, but her sample so far has been very small.
VardaValar1: Fainan doesn't share Meren's feelings about Auros. An
interesting difference there. How about the rest of the party?
ArPharazonV: Perhaps a grudging respect from Calion at this point but
he'd probably not be sorry to see him stay behind in Rivendell.
karakedi25: Auros has treated Fainan with a fair amount of respect.
VardaValar1: It was mutual
Eonwe Valar: Out of curiosity, besides how Auros went about taking
custody of the sword, how did Auros "burn" Meren? They had the travel
time between Mirkwood and Rivendell to get used to eachother, including
a few combat experiences, but I can't think of anything besides that,
unless that particular instance was just such a defining moment.
karakedi25: That was the main one, but he also pretty much ignored her.
Eonwe Valar: I'm going to need to reread the journey obviously then, because I don't recall that in the story.
VardaValar1: He didn't seem to be treating her particularly differently than anyone else, that I remember. Could you remind us?
LizMarr has entered the room.
karakedi25: nope, it's just an impression
VardaValar1: Not arguing. I just didn't catch the impression.
karakedi25: Maybe I'm wrong about him. But the thing about the sword was rather offensive.
VardaValar1: Aiya Ioreth. : )
ArPharazonV: Aiya Ioreth!
LizMarr: Aiya
VardaValar1: We're in After-meeting, a bit of RP talk.
VardaValar1: Did you want to bring up anything? : )
LizMarr: Ah, nope. took me a moment to reply, my mouse was visiting another computer without my permission
VardaValar1: oops : )
Eonwe Valar: Heya Ioreth :}
LizMarr: hi
ArPharazonV: Btw, for anyone who wants to see a series of crossovers
with MLP and similar humor, the third Pony Anthology is out at
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sPW9ki-IfZ8
Eonwe Valar: Sorry, between youtube , the computer, and getting me a cup of tea.
Eonwe Valar: Well, Youtube, AIM, and getting me a cup of tea.
LizMarr: Seahawkes x Niners here
VardaValar1: Thanks Phar : )
LizMarr: (American Football teams)
AriehnV: right .. rime for little sunshines to go to bed or something like that ^^
ArPharazonV: Namarie, Sunny!
VardaValar1: Namarie!
AriehnV: Namarie for now :-)
AriehnV has left the room.
LizMarr: rest well
Eonwe Valar: Sleep well, belatedly :}
Eonwe Valar: OK, got tea, so one less thing to jump between, hehe.
VardaValar1: Yay transcripts : )
Eonwe Valar: You know, reading through Chapter 6 of "Scouting Ahead" I
realize Auros never chastized Estarion for running off like he did,
hehe. Although, we did have some "group training" afterwards :}
VardaValar1: That's what he felt was actually needed. Estarion was never in any of our culture groups.
Eonwe Valar: The practice was Fainan's idea.
VardaValar1: lol
VardaValar1: ok, what Fainan thought was needed.
VardaValar1: I seriously need to do some re-reading. : )
Eonwe Valar: :}
Eonwe Valar: I think Auros would have a talk with Estarion about it were both to continue on to Angmar.
Eonwe Valar: Sort of "If you're going to be going, we need to know we
can count on you to stay with the group, not disappear" kind of a thing.
VardaValar1: The Avar seems to have disappeared into the brush
somewhere. Might still be nearby, stealthed, or have left without a
word.
VardaValar1: Aye, we'd like to be able to watch out for him if he gets stabbed or know if he'll be there to help.
Eonwe Valar: Not everyone can have "Gandalf Immunity" where he can just come and go as he pleases, hehehe.
ArPharazonV: And then we finally get to Angmar and it's "Yeah, I was right next to you the whole time!"
VardaValar1: lol
VardaValar1: He saps the sorceror. "Was there a problem?"
Eonwe Valar: hehehe
Eonwe Valar: The camera just doesn't pan in his direction until that moment? :}
VardaValar1: Riiiight. : )
VardaValar1: Is that a ring on your finger? And you were just in Rivendell?
Eonwe Valar: *Cuts to Frodo searching his pockets, and Boromir picking up a chain with nothing on it*
VardaValar1: hehe
Eonwe Valar: Ok, I've completed my review of Scouting Ahead: Chapter 6 :}
VardaValar1: yay!
Iryenth has left the room.
LizMarr: eek.. what does (( do in lotro? nevermind, I seem to be at the guild hall now
VardaValar1: Bad loading screen?
LizMarr: no, I'm in Moria
VardaValar1: ok, crafting guild hall. Sounds fine.
LizMarr: moria, the first place through the gate - durins
ArPharazonV: saving and sending transcript
VardaValar1: Thank you, Phar :-)
ArPharazon-V: saved
VardaValar1: Try to get some sleep before sun-up. :-)
ArPharazon-V: Will try :)
ArPharazon-V: Sent
ArPharazon-V: Namarie!
ArPharazon-V (ArPharazonV) has left the room.
VardaValar1: Namarie
EonweValar: Sleep well, belatedly :}
VardaValar1: Elwing made it into LotRO successfully for the first time in months. :-)
VardaValar1: Of course the place has been completely reveamped!
EonweValar: :}
EonweValar: Good to hear she made it in :}
VardaValar1: She sure didn't expect it to work. :-)
EonweValar: :}
