ArPharazonV: Can you also refuse?
mcioutpost has left the room.
mcioutpost has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: Refuse to upgrade? We could delay it, but that only goes as far as the end of the year, after which the forum will still be forced to version 5.
ArPharazonV: No, as an individual.
Eonwe Valar: As an individual, no.
ArPharazonV: Continue with the same, non-globalized account.
ArPharazonV: Too bad.
Eonwe Valar: Yeah.
mcioutpost has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: "In theory" it'll cut down on the people/bots making accounts just to spam links.
mcioutpost has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: Or at least I remember reading that in their discussion board somewhere.
Eonwe Valar: Apparently you'll be able to set the account to log in either with the associated e-mail (like a bnet account) or with the associated account name.
Eonwe Valar: If you're interested about the global accounts, check out: http://support.proboards.com/thread/430242/all-proboards-global-accounts-video. Read the posts on the last couple of pages, as they mention some changes made since the video's release (namely the one I just mentioned).
Eonwe Valar: Any other comments/questions on this?

Eonwe Valar: Any other gaming news?
ArPharazonV: Hmm, for WoW, I think most servers have their Isle of Thunder unlocked now...
ArPharazonV: meaning the new world boss is up, if you want to give it a go!

ArPharazonV: Also, more flashgames, and if you want a simple one that you can play whenever you have a moment free, but which can still frustrate you...
ArPharazonV: http://www.kongregate.com/games/TenebrousP/accelerator
ArPharazonV: Just gotta keep the mouse going through the tunnels and avoiding obstacles, at increasing speeds.
ArPharazonV: Have fun!

ArPharazonV: Oh! And one more thing that I heard earlier today...
ArPharazonV: apparently there's a new browser RTS game in beta, based on The Hobbit.
ArPharazonV: https://www.kabam.com/games/the-hobbit-armies
ArPharazonV: From what I saw, it looks pretty good.
ArPharazonV: You can play with Orcs, Elves and/or(?) Dwarves, and even use heroes from the movie.
ArPharazonV: Or movies.
ArPharazonV: So take a look if you're interested :-)
ArPharazonV: And that's it for me!

(WoW continued)
Eonwe Valar: Thanks, and thanks for reminding me about Isle of Thunder :}
Eonwe Valar: Lothar unlocked the final phase Tuesday night, and Nalak the Storm-Lord promptly gave me gold, twice, hehe.
Eonwe Valar: He seems easier than Sha of Anger on his big day to me. Whether that's good or bad I leave to you to decide.
AriehnV has entered the room.
ArPharazonV: Yeah, I have to agree he's easier. Not at all like Oondasta.
AriehnV: aiya folks
ArPharazonV: Aiya!
Eonwe Valar: Oondasta makes Galleon look easy, hehe.
AriehnV: sorry for the lateness ... just was stuck in rp
Eonwe Valar: Heya Arien :} Do you have any gaming news for the tail end of Gaming?
Eonwe Valar: Anyone who has a Tolkien topic should whisper me now.

(LotRO continued)
AriehnV: not much just moved my guardian to Eregion and into the walls of Moria
ArPharazonV: Into the walls?
ArPharazonV: Sounds painful.
AriehnV: its the zoned area that you have to do before you can enter Moria proper
AriehnV: bit like unlocking Isle of thunder relavtive speaking
ArPharazonV: Ah :-)
AriehnV: series of prequests and if i am right they also get the start off for the legendary weapon
Eonwe Valar: Aye, you get your first official legendary weapon in there from the Epic quest line.
AriehnV: aye i ve done the first two instances .. equipping of dwarves and the dragon lizards
AriehnV: just need the orcs sorted and then the rest bit
AriehnV: thats it from me :-)
Eonwe Valar: Thanks, and congrats :}
ArPharazonV: Congrats!

Eonwe Valar: Tolkien:
Eonwe Valar: First, everyone here and ready to participate in the discussion, say "Aye."
ArPharazonV: Aiya
ArPharazonV: ...
ArPharazonV: Aye
AriehnV: aye
Eonwe Valar: ok.
Eonwe Valar: Second, everyone who has read LotR respond with an enthusiastic "Aye!"
ArPharazonV: Wouldn't it be awkward if nobody responded to that?
Eonwe Valar: Yes, yes it would :}
ArPharazonV: But for the look of it, Aye!
Eonwe Valar: Each of you would be getting a talking-to, having managed to be members for so long :}
Eonwe Valar: Arien hasn't read LotR? :}
AriehnV: eh whatf?
AriehnV: about .. err 50 times lol
AriehnV: so aye :-)))))
Eonwe Valar: I was worried, you didn't respond to: "Second, everyone who has read LotR respond with an enthusiastic "Aye!""
Eonwe Valar: OK, third, everyone who's seen the LotR movies say "Meh." (I kid, just say "Aye" :})
AriehnV: Meh ... aye
ArPharazonV: Aye :-)
ArPharazonV: Just don't ask me about The Hobbit yet.
Eonwe Valar: Hehe, ok :}
Eonwe Valar: Well, tonight's discussion topic is Aragorn: How we saw him in the movies vs how we saw him in the source material.
AriehnV: Hmmm one thing that struck me in the movie is that he seemed too approachable
Eonwe Valar: Too approachable?
AriehnV: too much socialising .... or seeking the council of othiers if you know what i mean#
ArPharazonV: Not too proud to associate with the commoners? ;-)
AriehnV: in the books he seemed a lot more reclusive .. secretive
Eonwe Valar: Well, in Bree certainly, but even Sam warmed up to Strider eventually.
Eonwe Valar: (in the books)
AriehnV: i think that warming up to aragorn didnt come out quite so clear in the moviie
ArPharazonV: Well, they certainly kept complaining all the way to Weathertop.
Eonwe Valar: In the book, we saw an 87-year-old man who'd already made his decision to become King and who'd been through many trials in his preparation for that role.
ArPharazonV: True. In the movie it seemed like all his decisions were still ahead of him.
Eonwe Valar: Aye.
Eonwe Valar: In the movie, PJ decided to try and show Aragorn's transition/journey to deciding to become king.
AriehnV: well werent they more like flash backs? or were they supposed to be during his stay in Imladris?
ArPharazonV: It always helps to have a bit of character conflict to go through, instead of "That all happened ages ago offscreen, he's fine now"
Eonwe Valar: I don't know, I think a character who's already "made his decisions" and "drawn his lines in the sand", so to speak, can be fine, if done well.
ArPharazonV: It could, but it's the harder way out.
Eonwe Valar: So PJ was a chicken? :}
ArPharazonV: Something about "Show, not tell."
ArPharazonV: I wouldn't say that, but he probably wanted to have the advantage :-)
Eonwe Valar: Arien: No, they weren't all flashbacks. Some did happen in "present time."
Eonwe Valar: In the movie, Aragorn doesn't seem to really embrace his destiny as King until Elrond comes to him in Rohan and talks to him about Arwen/brings him Anduril.
ArPharazonV: It just works better in a movie that way than in a book. Though yes, flashbacks might've done the trick.
AriehnV: and Arwen's diying was not book as well i think
AriehnV: or nearly dying
AriehnV: it was that that brought Elrond to Aragorn
AriehnV: as he crossed Rohan
ArPharazonV: Heh, no, it wasn't. She would lose her immortality if she remained with Aragorn (or at least until after his death) but that whole business of her fate being tied to the Ring...
Eonwe Valar: Oh, she would die... eventually, hehe. In the same way 20-year old turtle with a 200-year expected lifespan will "eventually" die, heh.
AriehnV: yeah it seems a bit weird that .. this her being tied up to the ring .. to the one ring .. if she was tied to any rign it was Barahirs
AriehnV has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: In the book, no, she wouldn't have died if Sauron got the Ring. That part in the movie was,.. bad, to put it simply and nicely.
ArPharazonV: Agreed.
AriehnV has entered the room.
AriehnV: oops vclosed the window ..stupid cross in the corner
AriehnV: what did i miss?
Eonwe Valar: There's nothing in Arwen's life to have connected her in such a way to Sauron or the Ring. It would've made more sense to say that about a Ringbearer; it would've still been bad, but there would've been a connection that would "look" logical.
ArPharazonV: AriehnV has left the room.Eonwe Valar: In the book, no, she wouldn't have died if Sauron got the Ring. That part in the movie was,.. bad, to put it simply and nicely.ArPharazonV: Agreed.AriehnV has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: Invisible text there, Phar? :}
ArPharazonV: Hm?
ArPharazonV: I was just repeating what was said while Arien was gone.
Eonwe Valar: You apparently said something in chat, but it's just showing as your name and a post date to me, no text.
ArPharazonV: Oh, weird.
Eonwe Valar: Well, post time, but you know what I meant.
ArPharazonV: Last thing I said was what I'd copied from when Arien was gone, not sure if that didn't show up for you.
Eonwe Valar: Apparently not. I have my post about Arwen not being connected to Sauron or the Ring, you posting invisible text, then me asking about it. No worries anyway, I was there :}
AriehnV: its ok i got it from Eonwe hehe
Eonwe Valar: Ah, so it's not just me it's showing like that for?
ArPharazonV: Might be version related, it's certainly here for me.
Eonwe Valar: Odd.
ArPharazonV: And it'll show up in the transcript ;-)
AriehnV: no idea where PJ got that idea from was not one but it was not one of his best
Eonwe Valar: :}
Eonwe Valar: Aye.
Eonwe Valar: I'm sure it's more convincing and moving if you haven't read the books, heh.
ArPharazonV: Hah, maybe.
AriehnV: ah well back to Aragorn then
ArPharazonV: Though I daresay PJ read the books :-)
Eonwe Valar: Otherwise, see my above statement about a 20-year old turtle with a 200-year lifespan. Sure, it's gonna die, but it's not even in the stage of life to worry about it yet.
Eonwe Valar: (Was thinking of those Gallopagos turtles when that analogy came to me. Blame the Gallopagos islands, hehe)
AriehnV: i like Vigo Mortensen as Aragorn tho he made a nice portrait of him but he had to work with what PJ gave him
Eonwe Valar: Oh, I agree, Viggo was a good Aragorn.
AriehnV: and the bree scene was done masterly
AriehnV: i liked that
ArPharazonV: He made a good ranger smoking a pipe in the shadowy corners of the inn.
AriehnV: during the march to MOria we also see both boromir and Aragorn giving the hobbits lessons in handling themselves with swords
AriehnV: in the movie .. looked a bit like fun L:-)
Eonwe Valar: Aye, that was a good moment for character development.
fladrifv has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: Any other comments re Aragorn book vs Aragorn movie?
ArPharazonV: He didn't carry his broken sword with him in the movie :-)
Eonwe Valar: True :}
Eonwe Valar: Poor Narsil. Only screen time it got was spent sitting on (and falling off) a pedestal.
ArPharazonV: And it took waaaay too long to repair!
Eonwe Valar: Hehe, aye.
ArPharazonV: Always reminds me of a page from a lotr photocomic...
ArPharazonV: Let's see if I can find it.
ArPharazonV: http://www.shamusyoung.com/twentysidedtale/?p=1148
Eonwe Valar: Well, let's go ahead and bang the gavel here.
Eonwe Valar: *bangs gavel*
top

Eonwe Valar: Aftermeeting:
Eonwe Valar: Thanks all for coming, don't forget there are refreshments over on that table over there, and feel free to chat :}
AriehnV has left the room.
ArPharazonV: Allright, saving and sending transcript.
