VardaValar1: Membership:
VardaValar1: I've been away since early Tuesday for a funeral that
required a lot of traveling, got back kind of late Friday, and then had
a few hours of power outage. Haven't forgotten you, gang!
VardaValar1: Any other membership news? : )
Eonwe Valar: Welcome back :}
VardaValar1: Thank you
VardaValar1: I'm sure the rest of you have been busy this week, just not mentioning it atm. : )
top
VardaValar1: Web:
AriehnV has entered the room.
VardaValar1: I've been AWOL, but nothing new was in the mailbox either.
VardaValar1: Aiya Arien
VardaValar1: Hopefully I can come up with something new this coming week. : )
AriehnV: aiya there :-)
AriehnV: how are you folks?
VardaValar1: Good! Did you have any membership news you'd care to share?
AriehnV: nah not that i know of
top
VardaValar1: Gaming:
VardaValar1: Any non-WoW, non-LotRO fun going on?
VardaValar1: Bunch of members are in Guild Wars 2.
AriehnV: yes .. raises beam
AriehnV: but i havent met any of the others yet since you have to move the account
ArPharazonV: Bunch of flashgames. Spent much of the flashgame time on a single one, but it's a somewhat bloody zombiegame and I'm not sure, therefore, if it's one to mention/link in this meeting ;-)
AriehnV: its a bit of a shame that you can have characters on a us server and european server at the same time
VardaValar1: You just fore-warned them, or made them very interested. Go ahead with the url.
VardaValar1: Arien, you meant can't?
AriehnV: you cant thats what i mean
VardaValar1: You'd have to check with Irmo to see where he is. I have no idea.
AriehnV: doesnt matter
AriehnV: its ok i ve got fellow players here on Underworld :-)
AriehnV: bunch of non valarites from the wow loreseekers
VardaValar1: ok, glad you're happily engaged then.
AriehnV: thats it from me on that front
VardaValar1: Thanks, Arien.
Eonwe Valar: Hmm, doesn't seem any members of Valar have reported for the GSMU that they play Guild Wars 2 yet.
VardaValar1: Phar, did you find that link?
ArPharazonV: Allright, it was called Decision 2 (I've not seen the
first one) and it basically involves around exploring zones of a city,
moving between zones as you "reduce" zombie-danger, activate income
factories and defensive towers, while upgrading your weapons and
abilities and levelling your skills with them. And then defend as
zombies from other regions of the city try to invade the regions you
already control.
ArPharazonV: Let me find the official link.
ArPharazonV: http://armorgames.com/play/13701/decision-2 allright, this one'll do
VardaValar1: Thanks!
ArPharazonV: Have fun!
ArPharazonV: And no other gaming news from me, except some WoW news, but that'll come in the appropriate section.
VardaValar1: okie dokie, thank you.
VardaValar1: Anyone else have more gaming news? Flad? Glor, Gilraen?
karakedi25 has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya Indis : )
karakedi25: Aiya
Eonwe Valar: Correction on the Guild Wars 2 thing:
Eonwe Valar: I've got at least one person who does, but their info isn't on the Games Site yet. Will be in the next day or two.
VardaValar1: Thanks, Eonwe
VardaValar1: We have another person trying to enter the chat, hopes to join as a Full Member later.

VardaValar1: WoW:
VardaValar1: Arien had news for WoW and was first to ask, Go ahead, Sunshine. : )
AriehnV: yes we had a greatly welcomed visit from an old friend with branches and roots on Argent Dawn EU :-)
VardaValar1: oh, Fladrif! Very nice. : )
AriehnV: yes indeed :-D
ArPharazonV: More than just a visit. I've seen him around several days
now, though not sure how long he'll stick around this time :-)
AriehnV: i think he got a scroll of resurrection out of nowhere .. whistles completely not innocent
AriehnV: he actuallly confirmed to me that he might really rejoin after his holidays
AriehnV: dont know how long this scroll works
AriehnV: and yes i think he got his warrior to 82 now is it?
ArPharazonV: Priest, I think.
AriehnV: Priest aye Skjoeld
AriehnV: meaning "shield * if i am informed right :-)
AriehnV: and as a consequence the boost on my hunter was so great that i got her levelled from 84 to 85 within 6 dungeon runs
AriehnV: so great news indeed and thats it on our behalf
VardaValar1: Thank you, Arien. : )
VardaValar1: Ar-Pharazon the Golden has some news too?
ArPharazonV: Yep! Just wanted to say that I've gotten some big things done in WoW this week;
ArPharazonV: I finished the rep grind I mentioned the last few
meetings, getting several tens of thousands of rep in one day with some
help; I've also gotten a new legendary weapon, which unlocked a new pet
for our European guild :-)
ArPharazonV: The staff from the Firelands, which also allows me to transform into a blue dragon.
ArPharazonV: With these 2 big projects out of the way, I'm all set for the next expansion!
VardaValar1: and being a dragon is very much in the anniversary dragon-theme! Maybe a screenshot? : )
ArPharazonV: Oh, I've gotten dozens of screenshots, especially of the
big ghost image above the city of Stormwind of me riding a blue dragon,
which you get when the quest is finished, and which lingers there for
hours for everyone to see.
ArPharazonV: I'll choose one and send it to you, perhaps, for the anniversary :-)
VardaValar1: Would it be the one where you're the blue dragon?
ArPharazonV: I think I'm also in blue dragon form in some of those, yes.
VardaValar1: Otherwise we may have to outfit you in flowing black robes. ;-)
VardaValar1: The big ghost image sounds very dramatic : )
ArPharazonV: Well, that's it from me! Bit more personal than guild-related, but still an accomplishment I wished to share.
VardaValar1: That's a good one, thanks!
VardaValar1: Fladrif is back, and has some very interesting gaming news. Go ahead, o Ent. : )
fladrifv: hoom boom hoom
fladrifv: steps on the reinforced part of the stage
fladrifv: dear audiance I want to inform you that I won the chess championship going on for too long
ArPharazonV: Congratulations!
VardaValar1: Hip hip hooray!
Eonwe Valar: Congrats :}
ArPharazonV: Worth all the time spent, then :-)
fladrifv: :-)
fladrifv: it was next step will be the expert groupe
fladrifv: and then grandmaster...gets dreamy eyes
fladrifv: and I returned to wow
fladrifv: will be fully back after my holidays
AriehnV: congrats :-D
AriehnV: *bursts in well of sparks*
fladrifv: asks the audiance for ent size sunglasses
VardaValar1: *poof*
VardaValar1: The future's so bright, we all needed shades.
fladrifv: steps gently off stage
VardaValar1: *creak*
fladrifv: I did my best...
VardaValar1: That's some great news! Thanks for sharing. : )
VardaValar1: Eonwe, you had some gaming news?
Eonwe Valar: Aye.
Eonwe Valar: As you all should know, there has been a standing call for
the last month for all interested members to post on the forum to
pursue to the death a dragon in LotRO and another in WoW.
Eonwe Valar: After announcements/messages of the Day in both games, and
a mention in the Games Site Mass-Update letter, the deadline to express
said interest was reached yesterday.
Eonwe Valar: I regret to announce that we did not reach the necessary interest for either game.
Eonwe Valar: As such, the dragons Draigoch and Deathwing will remain free to pursue their campaign of death and destruction.
Eonwe Valar: That is all.
VardaValar1: Thank you, Eonwe.
VardaValar1: The fireworks major city runs are still on, for WoW and LotRO.
Eonwe Valar: I would, however, like to thank those who did express interest.
Eonwe Valar: Thank you to Melkor, Varda, and Glorfindel :}
VardaValar1: Fangorn would've come, and probably Bilbo and Sauron for WoW, if home, but didn't say anything on the forum.
VardaValar1: Elwing too.
VardaValar1: Ok, thank you for the news.
VardaValar1: Anything else on WoW? It's been very major on the changes and adjustments.
VardaValar1: If not, on to
VardaValar1: LotRO:
VardaValar1: The big excitement in LotRO is the beta for the huge new region of Rohan.
fladrifv has left the room.
VardaValar1: Raids, 3 and 6-mans are separately made from the questing
and area expansion and will hopefully be out around Christmas.
VardaValar1: Flad is having Windows updates hitting his comp. : )
VardaValar1: He hopes to be right back.
VardaValar1: So in live people who are already caught up in traits (go
to the new cap of 16) and happy with their gear are playing alts or
trying other games until expansion time,
VardaValar1: unless they're lucky enough to be in the beta.
VardaValar1: If you're in the beta, Landroval can do character copies this time.
VardaValar1: We do reform our kin every time it goes down as the world
wipes out. We've always been good about that. Sorry I was slow this
time having been away, but it's up and running.
VardaValar1: Any other LotRO comments?
VardaValar1: For your AIM buddy list, please add LizMarr
VardaValar1: She's re-reading the books for the test, and plans to join us in live LotRO.
karakedi25: Beta is getting better and better. The eastern edge of the
Eastemnet seems to be about ready for prime time. (The Wold)
ArPharazonV: Done. She's already online.
VardaValar1: Aye! The whole thing is running much more smoothly.
VardaValar1: Aye, but no group chat. She's trying to figure out how to
get it set up. I don't seem to have been much help with that.
VardaValar1: The epic quest line ran much better this round, and other quests that were having trouble before.
VardaValar1: Who thinks they might be able to help our friend figure out the setting?
VardaValar1: It was her Tolkien topic. Hope she can make it in. : )
ArPharazonV: Assuming she has the latest version I have no idea how to help ;-)
VardaValar1: Probably does
VardaValar1: ok, Eonwe is going to try to help her sort it out.
VardaValar1: Any further business, comments?
VardaValar1: Whoever's here, please type Aiya
VardaValar1: Aiya
ArPharazonV: Aiya
top
VardaValar1: Tolkien:
Eonwe Valar: somewhat-Aiya
AriehnV: aiya
VardaValar1: The question was how is Sam Gamgee first introduced? The question is not quite as straightforward as it sounds, as he's introduced more than one way.
VardaValar1: Feel free to hit the Fellowship of the Ring for the answers. : )
VardaValar1: I already looked it up, so I'll let others take a crack at it.
AriehnV: well he is first mentioned by the gaffer , that he works now for Mr Frodo
VardaValar1: True
ArPharazonV: If I recall, he was introduced in the Green Dragon, in a
conversation about... either Frodo or about strange events happening,
there were several scenes.
VardaValar1: Right
VardaValar1: So he was first foreshadowed in a couple of spots before
we ever see him, so his name seems familiar the first time he shows up.
VardaValar1: There's one more spot after the Gaffer's mention, quite brief.
VardaValar1: Nice bit of writing technique.
AriehnV: is it him sitting in the ivy bush himself having a drink with Merry?
AriehnV: i seem to recall something like that
VardaValar1: Green Dragon was correct for the first time we meet him as a person.
AriehnV: green dragon .. darn the names
AriehnV: but you know i dont dont do names :-D
VardaValar1: But we allow looking in the book. So feel free to peruse the index!
VardaValar1: In my index, instead of Sam, he was listed under Gamgee.
VardaValar1: What kind of things are said about Sam before we meet him?
Eonwe Valar has left the room.
VardaValar1: It helps set our attitude ahead of time.
Eonwe Valar has left the room.
Eonwe Valar has entered the room.
VardaValar1: What does the Gaffer tell us?
ArPharazonV: "my lad Sam will know
more about that. He's in and out of Bag End. Crazy about stories of the
old days he is, and he listens to all Mr. Bilbo's tales. Mr. Bilbo has
learned him his letters - meaning no harm, mark you, and I hope no harm
will come of it."
VardaValar1: Nice! Thanks Phar. : )
VardaValar1: Arien was right to remember the Ivy Bush because that's where the Gaffer was.
ArPharazonV: Indeed.
AriehnV: :-)
AriehnV: he himself sits in the green dragon a few days before the
party and talks with sandymans nephew Ted about the stories some people
have heard
AriehnV: he mentions dragons .. heard a bout elves wandering west
AriehnV: walking trees
ArPharazonV: Interesting foreshadowing about his curiosity to stories of the old days.
ArPharazonV: Since that not only brings him to eavesdrop on Frodo's
conversation with Gandalf (though the conspiracy would also help with
that) and makes him eager to go see the Elves.
VardaValar1: Referring to the Gaffer which brings up Sam: "Now
that he was himself growing old and stiff in the joints, the job was
mainly carried on by his youngest son, Samwise Gamgee. Both father and
son were on very friendly terms with Bilbo and Frodo. They lived on the
Hill itself, in Number 3 Bagshot Row just below Bag End."
VardaValar1: Phar's quote refers to Sam's being the one to know about any treasure the Bagginses have stashed.
VardaValar1: Aye about the foreshadowing.
VardaValar1: The Gaffer says he warned Sam: "Don't go getting mixed up
in the business of your betters, or you'll land in trouble too big for
you..."
VardaValar1: Sam is again shown to be very knowing about what
goes on in Bag End, as he says everyone's invited to the party and
there would be presents for all.
ArPharazon-V (ArPharazonV) has left the
room.
ArPharazon-V (ArPharazonV) has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Then a rumor is started by Sam that the party would have "fireworks, what is more, such as had not been seen in the Shire for nigh on a century, not indeed since the Old Took died."
VardaValar1: The fireworks also is a foreshadowing for Gandalf and how long he's been around.
LizMarr has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Sam disappears from the story about then, but we have him in mind enough so that when he reappears, we know him.
VardaValar1: Aiya!
VardaValar1: Welcome to the Sunday chat. : )
LizMarr: Aiya
VardaValar1: He shows up again in "The Shadow of the Past".
Eonwe Valar: Welcome :}
ArPharazonV: Aiya!
AriehnV: Aiya and welcome :-)
VardaValar1: Congratulations for making it past all the conniptions of programs and joining us here. : )
LizMarr: first I was using the web, next the program wasn't the one everyone else was using
VardaValar1: Interesting that you can even use the web for that. : )
LizMarr: not groups obviously. I think it is because there are no buddies but same word as facebook and google
VardaValar1: You were commenting on the first time Sam shows up in the Fellowship of the Ring and we were just looking into it.
VardaValar1: Phar, would you like to do a recap of what we found?
VardaValar1: o sorry, your AIM went down
VardaValar1: Arien, would you like to do the recap?
ArPharazonV: No good at recapping, and I doubt the point is to copy-paste the entire chat ;-)
VardaValar1: We first found Sam mentioned by Gaffer Gamgee, letting us
know a bit about how he works hard for the Bagginses, in a position the
Gaffer is becoming to old to handle.
VardaValar1: Then we learn Sam is very close to Bilbo and Frodo, knows all their doings. This is all before we even meet him.
VardaValar1: That's not until the second chapter. Where he's chatting
with neighbors at the Green Dragon about the strange things happening.
AriehnV: the gaffer mentions tho the fact that sam likes the stories of the old days and adventures
LizMarr: First Chapter - other is the longest Prologue in the world
VardaValar1: Aye, and that he learned his letters.
AriehnV: "elves and dragons .... says I .. taters and . something else better for you " something to that effect
LizMarr: I remember that. And now I remember his was mentioned in the prologue, but the timelines in that were so garbled
karakedi25: Good discussion, but I'm sorry, I have to leave. Until next week, namarie.
ArPharazonV: Namarie!
karakedi25: And welcome, LizzMarr
karakedi25 has left the room.
LizMarr: I'm always too slow
VardaValar1: Namarie Indis
VardaValar1: You were working to find a way to join in. You'll be in good shape for other meetings if you'd like to come. : )
VardaValar1: She can see your farewell later in the transcript, no worries.
VardaValar1: The Gaffer warned Sam about mixing into the "business of his betters" as he'd get in trouble. And he did.
Eonwe Valar has left the room.
LizMarr: You are way too organized. :-) I hope I can catch it
VardaValar1: But as Ar-Pharazon noted, Sam doesn't actually show up until we catch him at the Green Dragon.
VardaValar1: By then we know he's hard-working and sympathetic to the main character.
VardaValar1: We're inclined to believe him when he talks about walking trees.
VardaValar1: We find out he's interested in seeing elves, another reason he wants to go along with Frodo on the journey.
Eonwe Valar has entered the room.
VardaValar1: He's a sympathetic and interesting character from the
first time we meet him. And that first time he's not in Frodo's shadow
but on his own.
ArPharazonV: Oh, by the way, there's a new picture gallery up by Peter Jackson, with all 15 main characters.
VardaValar1: Anyway, that's about as far as we made it before you came in. : )
VardaValar1: Very good! Do you happen to have that url?
ArPharazonV: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10151204441711558.503763.141884481557&type=1
ArPharazonV: does that work?
VardaValar1: Thanks!
VardaValar1: Works for me and those that have Facebook.
ArPharazonV: I don't have Facebook, so it works for those without.
VardaValar1: Individual shots of each character.
ArPharazonV: Yep.
LizMarr: They always make Ganaulf look the same - even non movie things
ArPharazonV: Probably nothing new to be learned from it, but might still interest people.
VardaValar1: New pictures, some good stuff there.
ArPharazonV: And in a few days, a new trailer will be up.
VardaValar1: Click the thumbnails and get more of a pic.
LizMarr: new? I thought the ones they have they use up to release
ArPharazonV: Well Peter announced that a new trailer would be coming on the 19th, so...
VardaValar1: PJ keeps putting up new stuff. It's one of the ways he keeps us hooked. : )
VardaValar1: This is a collection of single shots for each dwarf, Bilbo, and Gandalf, in that url.
ArPharazonV: Yes.
VardaValar1: http://www.facebook.com/PeterJacksonNZ
LizMarr: The costuming and hair is wild. I wonder how much hair wasn't wigs
VardaValar1: They make use of real hair, extensions, wigs. : )
VardaValar1: Anyway, let's turn folks loose that need to get some sleep. : )
VardaValar1: *spins gavel*
VardaValar1: *tinnnng*
top
VardaValar1: After-meeting!
VardaValar1: Now people can enjoy looking at the videos and pics in peace. : )
VardaValar1: Maybe we can put up some nifty stuff for Sept 22. : )
LizMarr has left the room.
VardaValar1: Sept 22 is the birthday of Bilbo and Frodo.
VardaValar1: The week around that day has been called Tolkien Week.
VardaValar1: The American Tolkien Society started that week. Getting a bit carried away. : )
VardaValar1: Some call the birthday "Hobbit Day".
ArPharazonV: It also was around this time that The Hobbit was released, I heard?
VardaValar1: So this is the beginning of Tolkien Week. : )
VardaValar1: Nice bit of timing.
VardaValar1: People go bare-footed for a while on Hobbit Day. : )
VardaValar1: Feasts of various sorts happen.
VardaValar1: Today we had a Tolkien chat at a meeting of a Tolkien fan club, so we're already getting in the spirit. : )
VardaValar1: Feel free to send in quotes, pics, or comments.
ArPharazonV: You make it sound like that's a rare event!
VardaValar1: Well, I do go bare-footed often, but not usually in honor of Hobbits. ;-)
ArPharazonV: I meant the Tolkien chat.
VardaValar1: Just a good way to start off Tolkien week, being here with fellow Tolkien fans. : )
VardaValar1: Enjoying the Hobbit pics. : )
VardaValar1: The new trailer should be out Sept 19 as part of the celebration.
VardaValar1: ok, guess I'd better pop in and join the WoW group for a bit, since it's that branch's turn.
VardaValar1: Namarie for now!
ArPharazonV: have fun, and Namarie!
Eonwe Valar: Don't forget, WoW: Mists of Pandaria comes out one week from Tuesday :}
AriehnV: good luck :-)
ArPharazonV: Yeeees. And I don't have much hope that my CE will come through.
AriehnV: yes and i wont forget
ArPharazonV: But we'll see.
VardaValar1: CE?
ArPharazonV: collector's edition
VardaValar1: ah of course :-)
VardaValar1 has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: Anyone else noticing problems with WoW's guild UI?
ArPharazonV: Not me.
Eonwe Valar: Maybe just Lothar then.
AriehnV: NN all :-)
AriehnV has left the room.
Iryenth has left the room.
ArPharazonV: saving and sending transcript
