VardaValar1: j/k Flad

VardaValar1: Hope you saw interesting things, survived pre-election silliness, and had fun.
ArPharazonV: Aiya Flad!
ArPharazonV: You went to the USA and didn't even visit Varda?
VardaValar1: *snurfle*
VardaValar1: It's a realllly big place.
fladrifv: well I was that close :-)
fladrifv: about 3000 miles away or so

VardaValar1: Elen sila lumenn' omentielvo!
VardaValar1: Membership:
VardaValar1: Congratulations to all of you for your patience and persistence keeping up the chat room marathon all week for the 15th Anniversary. You are quite impressive.
VardaValar1: Patting yourselves on the back is to be done carefully, so as not to get stuck in that position.
ArPharazonV: Hmm, had some trouble the last few days, almost failed!
VardaValar1: I wasn't here as much as expected the last part of the week. Good thing there were so many to help!
AriehnV: truth to be told the last night and most of today i had the room afk open ^^ , but you are welcome
ArPharazonV: Aye, thanks for that :-)
AriehnV: stupid things they call "real life " .. work and that , sigh
VardaValar1: During this week we added a new member, Ioreth-(V), while testing out the LotRO beta, who has since transferred her main character to our server in LotRO, along with small characters she had made there already.
VardaValar1: Thank you for doing that, Arien!
AriehnV: :-)
VardaValar1: afk open is still open!
VardaValar1: also expected during the marathon.
VardaValar1: More cool news. Did Arien show you her new LARP armor pic yet? : )
VardaValar1: Weapons too.
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/art/gallery/Arien/ArienLARP.jpg
VardaValar1: You can see it from her Author's pages in the Encyclopedia as well.
VardaValar1: Impressive there, Arien. Funny but it makes me want to give you a hug.
VardaValar1: Fladrif is home from the USA. Welcome back. : )
VardaValar1: Any comments you'd like to make, your entishness sir?
VardaValar1: He went treeish, alas.

VardaValar1: Web:
VardaValar1: Thanks to the Anniversary, we had a nice new crop of goodies for the Tolkien Site. : ) Thank you!
VardaValar1: Two articles:
VardaValar1: "Ioreth" by Ioreth-(V)
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/articles/i/Ioreth.htm#IorethI
VardaValar1: "Smaug" for the dragon-theme by some Varda person.
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/articles/s/Smaug.htm
VardaValar1: One poem by Arien-(Valar).
AriehnV: The fall of the samew ...
VardaValar1: "The Fall of Smaug", dragon-themed:
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/poetry/TheFallofSmaug.htm
VardaValar1: Take a bow, Arien. : )
VardaValar1: One story by Ioreth, "Athelas":
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/fiction/authors/Ioreth/stories/Athelas.htm
VardaValar1: Somehow the art hasn't made it in yet, but hopefully before the end of October while it can still be included for the anniversary.
VardaValar1: We also had a story by Jay of Lasgalen, amusing, Nursery Crimes part 2:
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/fiction/authorsT/JayofLasgalen/stories/NurseryCrimes2.htm
VardaValar1: We're letting Fladrif get some sleep after 32 hours awake. That's just insane.
VardaValar1: Also, on the non-Tolkien front we also had a strong showing.
ArPharazonV: About to mail you a few screenshots, Varda, for the anniversary. Might as well do it while occupied here :-)
VardaValar1: Eonwe the Amazing put up the Games Site Mass Update and
fladrifv has left the room.
VardaValar1: The State of Valar Gaming. Could call it the stats of Valar gaming. ;-)
VardaValar1: Thanks. :-)
Eonwe Valar: *bow*
VardaValar1: Speaking of the Anniversary shots, we keep updating the Anniversary page.
VardaValar1: It has a screenie by Eonwe of the group in Gnomeregan right now. :-)
Eonwe Valar: In front of :}
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org/varda/NewsArchives/extras/2012/anniv2012/WoWfireworksGnomeregan.jpg
VardaValar1: in front of the gate *cough*
VardaValar1: From left to right, it shows Glorfindel, Varda, Eonwe, and Bilbo.
VardaValar1: Bilbo shape-changes. : )
ArPharazonV: Phew, 5000 screenshots in that folder. Hard to find the right one.
ArPharazonV: You look odd, Varda. Almost undead.
VardaValar1: hehe
VardaValar1: It's the lighting plus the weird spiky helmet that gives a white face. Can't see the wings there.
VardaValar1: hey, it's been a long week, Phar! ;-)
ArPharazonV: Also the dark eyes.
VardaValar1: True, the helmet does that too.
ArPharazonV: With the lines going down.
ArPharazonV: Ah, it's the helmet?
VardaValar1: Aye
VardaValar1: Hoping Eonwe comes up with a side shot so the wings show. Not big, but I like them. : )
Eonwe Valar: I'll see if I managed to get one :}
Eonwe Valar: I chose that one for the Anniversary page because it was a close up.
VardaValar1: It's nice to be able to see the people.
Eonwe Valar: When I get them up, you'll be able to see the Event pics at http://valarguild.org/gaming?Page=WoWLothar&Section=Events (if you want a direct link)
Eonwe Valar: All gaming stuff can be accessed through the Games Site link of www.valarguild.org/eonwe , of course.
VardaValar1: Aye, just hit the links. He'll have the pics up later.
VardaValar1: Anything anyone would like to add about the anniversary events? : )
Eonwe Valar has left the room.
Eonwe Valar has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: Thank you to all those who came to the WoW run :}
ArPharazonV: Still connection issues, Eonwe?
VardaValar1: Looks like.
Eonwe Valar: It's a shame we didn't have the interest to make the Draigoch or Deathwing guild runs happen, but it was still fun :}
Eonwe Valar: Aye, I guess AIM is still not liking me much right now.
VardaValar1: You did a fine job of getting the lot of us through the fireworks areas at good speed too!
VardaValar1: You went to a lot of trouble setting up camera angles. : )
VardaValar1: Picking good spots
top

VardaValar1: Gaming:
VardaValar1: WoW:
VardaValar1: The gang has gone a long way into the guild level of 21.
Eonwe Valar: *cough* We're lvl 22 as of last night :}
VardaValar1: Three people hit level 90 during the week.
ArPharazonV: (AD guild reached 24 today)
VardaValar1: o wow!
VardaValar1: and wow :-)
AriehnV: grats :-D
Eonwe Valar: We should be pushing 50% into 22 by now.
ArPharazonV: Hard to believe we were level 16 at patch 5.0.4. They really made it a rather trivial process since then.
ArPharazonV: I believe the Valarbranch was about that level as well?
VardaValar1: Updated the News, Eonwe, thanks.
Eonwe Valar: 16 or 17, somewhere in there if memory serves, aye.
Eonwe Valar: I don't recall off the top of my head and would have to look it up.
Eonwe Valar: Consider we also have the benefit of alot of brand new quests right now :}
VardaValar1: and the leveling helps.
VardaValar1: character leveling
ArPharazonV: That's true.
Eonwe Valar: Lothar: I was terribly late Friday night (my apologies as I'd thought I was actually going to be there), but we got some dungeon runs in anyway.
Eonwe Valar: We ran 3 dungeons, ended up in Temple of the Jade Serpent all 3 times, hehe.
Eonwe Valar: Eonwe, Glorfindel, Nob, and Bofur for the first, Eonwe, Glorfindel, and Eowyn for the second.
Eonwe Valar: *and third. I think Bilbo was in there somewhere too.
VardaValar1: Bilbo is one of you three that hit level 90 also. Eonwe and Bofur I believe did so?
Eonwe Valar: Aye, Eonwe, followe dby Bofur, and BIlbo last night.
VardaValar1: Grats to all three of you madmen. : )
VardaValar1: I would guess Phar is on up to it too
ArPharazonV: Level 90? No.
ArPharazonV: I"m nearing 87 now. I've been rather busy this week, and I've always been a slow leveller.
VardaValar1: Soon then. : )
ArPharazonV: Hah. I'm thinking 2 weeks more or so.
Eonwe Valar: Getting to 90 was about the same as it was with Cataclysm: took me about a week there too, but this time I'd taken a day off and still got there by Tuesday, hehe.
VardaValar1: I'm 86, heh.
VardaValar1: ./duck
Eonwe Valar: Still a good level for us to do normal dungeons :}
Eonwe Valar: 2 normal dungeons anyway :}
VardaValar1: Phar is sending more dragon pics for the anniversary, something to watch for. : )
Eonwe Valar: Tonight we're hoping to run some more, maybe end up somewhere besides Temple of the Jade Serpent, hehe.
AriehnV: 87 on merrla and 88 on Justi ^^
VardaValar1: Grats Arien : )
AriehnV: :-)
ArPharazonV: Nice one!

VardaValar1: LotRO:
VardaValar1: As you know, LotRO is my main game rather than WoW, which I will hide behind as an excuse for slow leveling and you may ignore. ;-)
VardaValar1: The beta started up again as Round 6 for LotRO, showing a great deal more polish.
VardaValar1: We've been trying to help make this as good as it can be. It's supposed to come out Oct 16 which just seems soooo soon.
VardaValar1: Trait cap goes from 14 to 16.
VardaValar1: Level cap goes up
VardaValar1: Armor for Draigoch works for the starting areas, Saruman armor is better for the later areas.
VardaValar1: New armor is picked up from barters while rebuilding the town of Hytbold, for about level 90.
VardaValar1: Mounted Combat is a reality in Rohan, and the horse may be used for normal riding but not combat in other areas.
VardaValar1: Very hard to go back to a normal horse afterwards. : )
VardaValar1: The horse combat is mainly for the wide open spaces, not for everything.
VardaValar1: Be sure to complete the last Epic quest in live now, so as to be able to start into the new one for the expansion.
VardaValar1: I recommend going to Langhold for the quests for the warhorse, then taking the warhorse on to the epic for max horse leveling.
VardaValar1: Three types of horses: light, medium, heavy. They have inertia and speed changes.
VardaValar1: They have traits and gear and their own Legendary Item bridle.
VardaValar1: The group in live has been doing runs like Foundry etc. Folks are planning on hitting live for the expansion, including quite a few faces we haven't seen for a while. Should be crazy fun.

VardaValar1: What other games have we been playing this past week?
VardaValar1: Sauron has been playing Star Trek Online
VardaValar1: Bilbo and Sauron have been playing Mass Effect 3
ArPharazonV: As I said I've been a bit busy, but I have been playing some more flashgames. My love for upgrade games has taken me over several gaming websites this week, though nothing really stands out as worth mentioning on its own.

VardaValar1: A bunch are playing Guild Wars 2
VardaValar1: Those slackers. : )
VardaValar1: I mean the flashgame sites as slackers, not giving you some cooler games.
AriehnV: on that note ..
AriehnV: my loreseekers GW 2 offshoot .. the Arcanomechanic Fraternity has moved to the US server Tarnished Coast :-)
AriehnV: including me
AriehnV: sooo i ll be findable by our guys :-D
VardaValar1: GW2 is mostly being played by our Europeans, Irmo's Wolves of Valinor.
ArPharazonV: Well Varda, maybe I'm just spoiled, I'm swiftly turned away by what I see as fundamentally disliked features, even though other players might love them :-)
VardaValar1: Are there some others?
VardaValar1: Makes you a good critic, Phar. : )
VardaValar1: Eonwe, you might know what server people are on?
Eonwe Valar: For Guild Wars 2? If I have the info, it's on the Games Site.
VardaValar1: Do you show servers?
Eonwe Valar: Aye.
Eonwe Valar: And character names.
Eonwe Valar: The Games Site tells me that, as of the GSMU, only Arien, Elrond, and Celebrian admitted to playing GW2.
VardaValar1: Did you get that list I sent you yesterday? Probably too late for your update.
Eonwe Valar: I'll take a look.
VardaValar1: okies
VardaValar1: pardon, Irmo sent us. : )
VardaValar1: Eonwe suggested a trivia game for tonight. Who all is up for one? : )
ArPharazonV: Sure.
Eonwe Valar: So should I be changing your gaming info for Guild Wars 2 to reflect the server change ,Arien?
AriehnV: if you want aye
Eonwe Valar: I mean, did your characters move?
AriehnV: yeah once you transfer servers all characters move
Eonwe Valar: Or are you just playing on a different server with a new set of characters.
Eonwe Valar: ok.
Eonwe Valar: So people won't find you on Underworld anymore.
AriehnV: and gw 2 is such as long as you are in the same zone you can run instances and group with folks on other servers
AriehnV: no not on Underworld anymore :-( , wish i could have a character in european zone and some in us zone as in StWToR
Eonwe Valar: OK, thanks.
Eonwe Valar: We all ready for Tolkien?
AriehnV: ayep
ArPharazonV: Sure.
top

Eonwe Valar: Tolkien:
Eonwe Valar: Everyone here say Valinor.
AriehnV: Valinor
ArPharazonV: Valinor
VardaValar1: Valinor
Eonwe Valar: OK, trivia. Let's see how trivial we can get, lol :}
VardaValar1: o dear. Pretty deep in.
Eonwe Valar: I'll start us off, afterward we proceed by channel order.
VardaValar1: *drummmming*

Eonwe Valar: 1.) How many days are in a Hobbit month?
VardaValar1: 30?
ArPharazonV: 30, yes.
Eonwe Valar: Varda got it first, hehe.
VardaValar1: Pure guess.
VardaValar1: Arien's turn?

AriehnV: ok .. Names in the shire .. how were they formed and what were they like?
Eonwe Valar: OK, now to Arien, Phar, me (skipping this round since I just went), Varda.
VardaValar1: place names? People names?
AriehnV: People's names
Eonwe Valar: If Arien is still here? :}
AriehnV: meeeps
VardaValar1: Flowers for the ladies mainly, other vegetation for the guys. Last name is family.
VardaValar1: Descriptive of places like Underhill
VardaValar1: Rosie as a lady name.
AriehnV: :-D 150 %
Eonwe Valar: Hehe
Eonwe Valar: SO what plant is a "Samwise" :}
VardaValar1: I was thinking about Sam too. :-(
VardaValar1: Also some names aren't what they were supposed to be in Hobbitish. Confusing there.
Eonwe Valar: I don't believe I grow "frodos" in my front yard :}
VardaValar1: Why not?
ArPharazonV: I'm just wondering what a Bilbo and Frodo are, yes.
VardaValar1: Or Peregrins?
Eonwe Valar: I could never find the seeds at the local seed store :}
VardaValar1: Slackers. ;-)
VardaValar1: How were the guys named then?
VardaValar1: And Baggins?
VardaValar1: Sounds like some appendix poking again.
AriehnV: a Peregrin is actually a bird
Eonwe Valar: Arien gave you 150% so I'm guessing she remembers where the naming was discussed :}
VardaValar1: True on the bird, a small hawklike raptor.
VardaValar1: But in the actual book, it's not what that naming stuff said.
ArPharazonV: All I have down here is the Fellowship so I'll have to do without appendices or index to find and answer any questions, until I convince myself to go upstairs.
VardaValar1: To be fast, we don't have time for the books. ;-)
Eonwe Valar: I was strugglling to remember how boys were named, actually, hehe. I'm thinking after someone in the family off the top of my head, but I can't prove it.
ArPharazonV: So what is Peregrin's father named after?
AriehnV: i think i read somewhere that they were a different form than what we see in the books .. they were *anglizised" for our today's readers
VardaValar1: Aye, they were a different form from the books.
ArPharazonV: Yes. Frodo's real name was Maura.
ArPharazonV: Maura Labingi.
AriehnV: ouch no wonder he changed it ^^
VardaValar1: heh
AriehnV: but yes Varda that was what i wanted to hear
AriehnV: so next asker :-) Pharazon
ArPharazonV: Allright. As I said I just have the first book here so I struggled to find something really trivial.
ArPharazonV: And I'll settlefor...
VardaValar1: Saradoc Scattergold
VardaValar1: was Merry's father
VardaValar1: Paladin II was Pippin's father

ArPharazonV: The Dwarves in The Hobbit sang a song while in Bilbo's home. A variation of this song, made by Bilbo, makes an appearance early on in the journey of the hobbits in LotR. Where are they when singing this?
VardaValar1: Far over the Misty Mountains old. Not the
Eonwe Valar: Only two places I can think of. I'll choose the Barrow Downs.
VardaValar1: Road goes ever on and on
VardaValar1: Inn?
VardaValar1: Tavern?
Eonwe Valar: I remember Frodo tried to sing there but the atmosphere was oppressive so he didn't sing long.
ArPharazonV: the Misty Mountains one, I think yes.
ArPharazonV: Not the inn, not the Barrow Downs.
VardaValar1: Old Forest
Eonwe Valar: Then, I'm going to say in Crickhollow.
VardaValar1: it upset the trees if that's the right one
Eonwe Valar: If I get a second guess anyway, hehe.
ArPharazonV: Eonwe is right with his second guess.
VardaValar1: yay Eonwe!
Eonwe Valar: Singing in the tub as I recall? Hehe.
ArPharazonV: They sang it as they celebrated their conspiracy and had decided to journey away together.
ArPharazonV: No, that was another song :-)\
Eonwe Valar: Ah, ok.
VardaValar1: Now I want to look up the one that bothered the trees. : )
VardaValar1: fading away.
ArPharazonV: They sing this as the 3 hobbits dance around Frodo when he gives in to taking them with him.
Eonwe Valar: hehe
AriehnV: in the old Forest something with light and fading
Eonwe Valar: OK, Varda's turn to see how badly she can stump us :}
VardaValar1: ok
AriehnV: Frodo tries to sing it but his voice is stifled soon if I remember right

VardaValar1: Who was the helper in the Houses of Healing that brought athelas to Aragorn?
AriehnV: Beregond
VardaValar1: nay
ArPharazonV: A woman, I believe.
VardaValar1: Nay
ArPharazonV: Ah.
VardaValar1: Arien say what you said in the side window.
AriehnV: Bregil , Beregonds son
AriehnV: i dont know whether the name is right but i know for sure the son ^^
VardaValar1: Bergil is correct. : )
VardaValar1: Bergil, son of Beregond.
AriehnV: Bergil , hehe ok .. but you know i dont do names ^^]
Eonwe Valar: OK, round 1 complete.
VardaValar1: You did it good enough. No one else got it.
AriehnV: ;D
Eonwe Valar: Aye. Bergil wouldn't have occured to me, hehe.
AriehnV: another round?
VardaValar1: aye
Eonwe Valar: We have approx 15 minutes to go time in WoW. would have to be quick.
AriehnV: oki do aye
AriehnV: i ve got one ready
Eonwe Valar: Take it away, Arien :}
ArPharazonV: Fetching the other books.
ArPharazonV: ...Nah, that'd take away from question time, I'll look another one up in here.

AriehnV: Merry when he woke up in the houses of healing was looking for his pipeweed , can you remember where it was?
ArPharazonV: I remember something about him having smoked it all?
ArPharazonV: And Pippin sharing with him?
VardaValar1: he had a pouch..
ArPharazonV: Or was that the other way around..
Eonwe Valar: It was in his pack, at the foot of his bed.
VardaValar1: o right. Merry wanted his pipeweed after the Witch-king and Pippin had some for him?
VardaValar1: Thanks Eonwe : )
AriehnV: thats it :-) i just love the scene
AriehnV: it always makes me laugh
Eonwe Valar: Aye :}
VardaValar1: So real. : )
Eonwe Valar: Phar's turn :}
Eonwe Valar: Unless he's still fetching his books :}

ArPharazonV: Allright. Multi-part, I guess. What did each of the 4 hobbits dream about in Tom Bombadil's house, on the first night?
Eonwe Valar: Frodo: Gandalf.
ArPharazonV: Correct.
VardaValar1: the moon was in his hair. on the tower
Eonwe Valar: Sam:... Elves?
ArPharazonV: It doesn't need to be detailed, just the various main topics or something.
ArPharazonV: No.
Eonwe Valar: A giant bear.
ArPharazonV: Also no :-)
VardaValar1: something scratching at the window? Think that was before the dreams at least, Scary night noises.
ArPharazonV: That was part of (or at least incentive for) one of the dreams, yes. But whose, and what was it that he dreamed of that was doing the scratching?
Eonwe Valar: The Black Riders.
ArPharazonV: No. Black Riders showed up at the end of frodo's dream, and not as the main topic, which you already gave.
Eonwe Valar: Afraid the only one I remember evidently is Frodo, hehe.
ArPharazonV: Do people wish to try more?
VardaValar1: Like people are always telling me, I need to re-read that.
Eonwe Valar: I think I've guessed enough :}
ArPharazonV: Any further guesses from anyone? :-)
ArPharazonV: Want me to supply the answers?
AriehnV: "Master Meriadoc, " said Aragorn "if you think i have passed through the mountains and the realm of Gondor with fire and sword to bring herbs to a careless soldier who throws away his gear, you are mistaken. If your pack has not been found, then you must send for the herb-master of this House. And he will tell you that he did not know  the herb you desire had any virtues, but that its called "westmansweed" by the vulgar, and "galenas" by the noble and other names in other tounges more learned, and after adding a few half-rhymes he does not understand, he will regretfully inform you that there is none in the House, and he will leave you to reflect on the history of tongues"
AriehnV: :-)
VardaValar1: Aragorn had a sense of humor. :-)
VardaValar1: I'd like to know, Phar.
Eonwe Valar: Go ahead Phar. Looks like we're all out of guesses :}
AriehnV: aye tell us
ArPharazonV: Pippin was indeed disturbed by the scratching on the window, and dreamed of the willow; branches and twigs scratching on the wall, as he suddenly found himself back inside the willow.
AriehnV: I remember what he dreamed in the snowdrift under weathertop ... but not there :-(
ArPharazonV: Merry found himself drowning as the rain flowed under the walls of the house, and rose up. In his dream.
ArPharazonV: No, not rain, just water streaming down gently.
ArPharazonV: And Sam.. slept through the night in deep content, if logs are contented :-) No dreams for him!
VardaValar1: Yay Sam!
Eonwe Valar: hehe
Eonwe Valar: ok, my question..

Eonwe Valar: What did Bilbo says he was doing when Frodo was reunited with him in Rivendell, and what was he really doing? :}
VardaValar1: Working on his book but he was napping.
Eonwe Valar: Not quite :}
ArPharazonV: I remember the reunion was in a hall of stories?
Eonwe Valar: The Hall of Fire, yes.
VardaValar1: Working on the poem that he later said Aragorn only added the one thing to
AriehnV: solving riddles .. waiting for Lindir to answer his question . Lindir should decide which lines in Bilbo's new song was his and which was Aragorns
VardaValar1: not really napping but looking like it
ArPharazonV: A poem? Or a song?
VardaValar1: song I guess
VardaValar1: I thought it was a poem but they do sing them.
Eonwe Valar: Aye, he was working on a song about Earendil.
Eonwe Valar: Or that's what he claimed :}
Eonwe Valar: He was really napping :}
VardaValar1: He appeared to be napping but he opened his eyes and was bright-eyed, had been thinking.
Eonwe Valar: That's what they all say... ;}
VardaValar1: hehe
Eonwe Valar: Anyway, as Elrond would say, Varda has the place of honor, for I call on her for the last question :}
VardaValar1: What was the correct answer?
ArPharazonV: Eonwe claims he was really napping.
Eonwe Valar: Eonwe Valar (6:06:06 PM): Aye, he was working on a song about Earendil.Eonwe Valar (6:06:17 PM): Or that's what he claimed :}Eonwe Valar (6:06:32 PM): He was really napping :}
VardaValar1: That was the correct answer? ok

VardaValar1: Beregond was about to have his throat bitten by what, when he was saved by whom?
Eonwe Valar: Bilbo claims he wasn't, by all appearances he was, and I maintain he was, since that wasn't the only time he did that :}
ArPharazonV: A.. troll chieftain until Pippin saved him?
VardaValar1: Aye. Phar wins. :-)
ArPharazonV: Yay!
Eonwe Valar: Congrats :}
Eonwe Valar: And with that final question...
ArPharazonV: *pulls back hands*
Eonwe Valar: *raises gavel into the air*
Eonwe Valar: *Bang*
