VardaValar1: Membership:
VardaValar1: Trying to keep up with birthdays on the News, but many are
put on late. Please accept the late birthday wishes anyway folks and
forgive me. :-)
GwaihirValar has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya Gwaihir!
ArPharazonV: Aiya!
VardaValar1: Happy second wedding anniversary to Eowyn :-)
GwaihirValar: hullo
VardaValar1: To all of our folk suffering from Hurricane Sandy, you
have our best wishes and our hope that you come out just fine with only
stories to tell.
AriehnV: how many are affected?
AriehnV: aye you 're all in our thoughts
VardaValar1: Quite a few on the east coast. Very populated area.
VardaValar1: Were any of you affected? Maybe in Canada?
GwaihirValar: Not us, we're pretty far from the Hurricane zones
VardaValar1: O good!
VardaValar1: Any other membership news?
ArPharazonV: Do we have any members we know who were affected?
VardaValar1: I trust you all had a good Halloween.
VardaValar1: Yes, but last I heard they were ok. Others I haven't heard from yet.
ArPharazonV: No Halloween here.
ArPharazonV: Though apparently some people are eager to introduce it,
we did have some kids showing up for candy, though we did not have any
prepared.
VardaValar1: That's when not to have your porch light on. :-) Signals that your house is not giving candy.
ArPharazonV: Ah. I'm not sure we have a (working) porch light.
AriehnV: usual decorations , we had a few teenies going tricking and treating - saw a few costumes while walking home
Eonwe Valar: Well, you could've taken a pages from BLizzard and handed out toothpicks or dental floss, hehehe.
GwaihirValar: Video Games Live came ot Winnipeg on Halloween, so we were attending that rather than giving out candy
VardaValar1: (Eomer is in New York, but has been online. Tulkas' house took damage but he was ok, in port on a ship.)
VardaValar1: We had about 26 trick or treaters in our area.
AriehnV: we had fireworks last night :-)
VardaValar1: For what?
AriehnV: think thats for guy fawkes blowing up the parliament or so
AriehnV: or trying to ^^
VardaValar1: ah ok
VardaValar1: Didn't realize that was so close to Halloween, heh.
ArPharazonV: They wouldn't give him candy.
VardaValar1: lol
Iryenth: early Bonfire Night, Arien?
AriehnV: yip , true bonfire night is tomorrow
AriehnV: guess it had to do with organisation
VardaValar1: I saw that on our calendar but didn't understand it. What is bonfire night? Solstice or other?
Iryenth: It's in remembrance of a failed plot to assassinate... James VI, I think it was, using gunpowder
VardaValar1: Guy Fawkes day with another name?
AriehnV: In November 1605, the infamous Gunpowder Plot took place in
which some Catholics plotted to blow up the English Parliament and King
James l, on the day set for the king to open Parliament. The men were
angry because the king had treated them badly and they didn't like it.
The story is remembered each 5th November when 'Guys' are burned in a
celebration known as "Bonfire Night".
VardaValar1: Kind of an odd thing to celebrate, but any excuse for a party.
Iryenth: Thanksgiving much? ;-)
GwaihirValar: Really, most holidays are strange when you look close at them
VardaValar1: Treated them badly is pretty mild there.
ArPharazonV: Catholics. Can't trust them *hides*
VardaValar1: JRRT was Catholic. :-)
ArPharazonV: Guess they're not all bad then!
VardaValar1: hehe
GwaihirValar: We have a holiday celebrating someone that nobody can really decide whether he was a traitor or not...
AriehnV: "Remember, remember, the fifth of November,Gunpowder, treason
and plot.We see no reason whyGunpowder treasonShould ever be forgot!"
Iryenth: indeed
AriehnV: these words are attributed to Guy Fawkes nd are ever read at a bonifire :-)
VardaValar1: Think I'll celebrate the Ring's falling into boiling rock. : )

VardaValar1: Web:
VardaValar1: The Tolkien Site has a new piece of art from
DeepGroover-(T), that looks like a Nameless Evil quite a bit. Called
"Brute":
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/art/gallery/DeepGroover/Brute/Brute.htm
VardaValar1: Noticed just before the meeting ahat somehow the link with
it on the News didn't get uploaded on Halloween as planned, so here it
is belatedly.
VardaValar1: His little brother should be online this coming week.
Membership 2:
VardaValar1: Backing up to Membership. Go ahead, Arien.
AriehnV: My bad got distracted
VardaValar1: :-)
AriehnV: next week from Friday onwards i am on vacation
AriehnV: :-)
ArPharazonV: Enjoy!
VardaValar1: Will that give you more gaming time or freedom from computers?
AriehnV: from friday to sunday there is not much relaxation but heaps
of fun in Amatyr or at least some regions adjacent to it ^^
AriehnV: i. e. LARP time :-)
VardaValar1: Depends on what you think of as relaxation. : )
VardaValar1: Nice!
AriehnV: then on Sunday afternoon we wil be heading to manchester
airport since thats not too far away and see my parents and sister
VardaValar1: Let them remember your face!
AriehnV: on plan also an exhibition about the Celts in Stuttgart and
meeting up with somebody i have met at a concert 15 years ago
AriehnV: she contacted me via facebook when she found an old letter from me ;-)
AriehnV: else just my sister . thats it :-) i wont be here the next two sundays in consequence
AriehnV: we ll be back on skye Monday 19th November and i am back to work on Tuesday
AriehnV: thats it :-)
VardaValar1: Thank you, Sunshine. :-)
AriehnV: probably i ll be sneaking on my sister's computer for a few minutes and checking mail and forum but else no comp
VardaValar1: You'll need to go to work to rest.
AriehnV: hehe
top
VardaValar1: Ok, jumping forward to Gaming
VardaValar1: Eonwe, you had some WoW news?
Eonwe Valar: Aye.
Eonwe Valar: Earlier this week, Bilbo, GLorfindel, and I found out we
can 3-man the Zul'Aman Bear run. Glorfindel won the bear :}
ArPharazonV: grats!
AriehnV: nice grats :-)
Eonwe Valar: We tried 3-mannign Bastion of Twilight late Friday night, but that one didn't quite work out so well, hehe.
ArPharazonV: bit much, eh?
Eonwe Valar: For now, yes.
Eonwe Valar: Hard to keep myself alive so that they can focus on killing, hehe.
AriehnV: *mumbles a spell and weaves us servers and european ones together*
Eonwe Valar: Next Sunday we'll be going after ICC hard modes, as a
friendly reminder to those of us on the Lothar branch lvl 80 and up.
Eonwe Valar: I should say "Heroic mode" rather, though the distinction is small.
AriehnV: good luck with that :-)
Eonwe Valar: Thanks :}
Eonwe Valar: That's it from me, unless you want to hear that I can solo Kael'Thas in TK and Glor's been soloing Naxxramas, hehe.
VardaValar1: Congrats : )
VardaValar1: Any other WoW news?
ArPharazonV: Still plodding on in there, though questing is rather slow ;-)
ArPharazonV: Almost done with the single quests now though, and then I can start going for dailies!
AriehnV: a few more characters in Panda area and sneaking in to spy out the horde version of the exploration ^^
AriehnV: or master hellscreams *justification"
VardaValar1: o right, I need to check the Horde side. /facepalm
AriehnV: hehe ^^
VardaValar1: LotRO:
VardaValar1: We now have 5 people at the nex max level of 85. Others are very close!
VardaValar1: People are working on the end game of rebuilding the city
of Hytbold, with the perk of a new armor set probably good for hitting
the new raids/instances that are in the works.
VardaValar1: Lots of folks have been in there regularly, been fun. : )
VardaValar1: Any other LotRO comments?
VardaValar1: Any comments on other games? Maybe flashgames? MLPO?
ArPharazonV: Yep, played some MLP Online which was released this week.
GwaihirValar: The latest d3
patch has really made the game a lot more fun for me, that's most of my
time lately... although I've also been spending some on X-Com
MLPO continued:
ArPharazonV: Had trouble starting it up at first, though it was
because of XP again, then found out from the website that the offline
installer wasn't working and I had to install from the zip-file. Which
I did, and it seems to be working pretty well. I've not run into a
game-crash yet, even in situations that would be guaranteed to crash me
in the beta.
ArPharazonV: Episode 1 seems to be doing well, interface is quite good,
and there's skills and items and talents and attribute points... feels
like a pretty decent RPG. They did a good job.
ArPharazonV: I've not finished yet, still a good way to go, but I think
they're working on the multiplayer version and the second episode right
now, as well as adding things to this episode. So in all, it's off to a
good start and a promising future.
ArPharazonV: ^a few lines above: though -> thought, sorry
ArPharazonV: Also some flashgames but nothing to mention.
ArPharazonV: End report!
VardaValar1: Thanks, nice review on MLPO.
VardaValar1: Sounds like they tried to actually be ready by launch time. : )
ArPharazonV: Still a day delayed ;-)
VardaValar1: Give us quality over on time. : )

VardaValar1: Tolkien:
VardaValar1: New posters are up for The Hobbit movie:
VardaValar1: http://www.facebook.com/TheHobbitMovie
VardaValar1: 17 character posters there.
VardaValar1: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=444408758928068&set=a.444408395594771.93946.160617097307237&type=1&theater
VardaValar1: Any other Tolkien news folks would like to mention?
ArPharazonV: Oh, right, and an airline commercial with Peter Jackson and a ton of hobbits and elves etc :-)
VardaValar1: Ahh, the safety video for airlines. : )
ArPharazonV: yep!
ArPharazonV: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cBlRbrB_Gnc
VardaValar1: Thanks!
AriehnV: oh i managed to pick up a movie magazine with a 63 pages pullout about The Hobbit moveie ^^
AriehnV: and a nice 3 d cover of Gandalf in front
VardaValar1: Fantastic. Can you mention the magazine's name?
AriehnV: there is also a short introduction of each dwarf by and hobbit and wizard by their actors
AriehnV: The magazine is called Empire
VardaValar1: Thanks
AriehnV: and a lot of background information from technicians , Pj and so on
AriehnV: and about Tolkien and the stories and relation to the LotR ^^
AriehnV: 0"I am in fact a Hobbit, in all but in size" ...said who? @:-)
VardaValar1: PJ
AriehnV: No :-P
ArPharazonV: Hmm... Tolkien?
AriehnV: yay :-D
AriehnV: one sandcorn of Numenor for the Golden :-)
VardaValar1: yay!
ArPharazonV: All that remains of my precious kingdom, is it?
AriehnV: i am afraid so :-(
ArPharazonV: Oh well. I'll keep it safe.
VardaValar1: Becoming a responsible king? : )
Eonwe Valar: Well, there's a few thousand or so descendants as well...
ArPharazonV: Not my descendants.
AriehnV: I wonder if one is mad enough to venture the surrounding seas
on the bottom .. maybe you would find some pottery shards ..
VardaValar1: When reading the books, I was relieved the Numenorean
fleet didn't do a side attack versus the elven island on the way.
ArPharazonV: But sure, there's still Numenorean blood out there.
Eonwe Valar: Descendants of your people.
VardaValar1: Some Aragorn guy carried Numenorean blood. ^^
Eonwe Valar: Ara-....gorn? Nope, doesn't ring a bell.
ArPharazonV: Pretty sure it sank into an abyss of sorts, as the world
curled into a ball... maybe it actually fell of the world and is now
floating out there as an asteroid or something.
AriehnV: at least 50 odd more were left at least at the time of the war of the ring
VardaValar1: The Faithful escaped, but boy was it a hair-raising ocean voyage for them. They were ready at the docks.
AriehnV: hmnm would nt that be a nice new film project for PJ ? :O#
AriehnV: The sinking of Numenor .. would make a nice catastrophic epic :-D
ArPharazonV: *auditions for role of king*
VardaValar1: Go for it, Phar :-)
VardaValar1: There's a ton of potential movies in the Silmarillion. And books, like they did for Children of Hurin.
VardaValar1: Beren and Luthien for sure as a movie.
AriehnV: aye
AriehnV: would be nice to see someone tackle those elder days
ArPharazonV: Yes, would be interesting.
ArPharazonV: Though seperating the Silmarillion chapters without the need for so much context could be rather awkward.
ArPharazonV: I'd support the idea of a tv series though!
AriehnV: you d kind of have to sift through the continuing storylines
VardaValar1: That's a thought, Phar!
Eonwe Valar: Depends on who did the tv series.
Eonwe Valar: I wouldn't want Uwe Bol within a solar system of it, for example.
VardaValar1: A TV series might not have the necessary budget to do it well.
ArPharazonV: True.
ArPharazonV: You can make a series of movies though.
VardaValar1: Agreed!
VardaValar1: Just keep it going like Star Trek. ;-)
ArPharazonV: *nod*
Eonwe Valar: And when you hit the end, reboot? :}
ArPharazonV: Move to the second age!
ArPharazonV: Not just the Akallabeth, but also stories of earlier Numenorean kings, like Aldarion.,
AriehnV: hehe or the fourth >>
VardaValar1: o noes. reboot. Some day they're liable to re-do LotR again. ack
Eonwe Valar: Maybe since there's been a version done well, when they
redo it in another decade, the person who does will try to stick closer
to the source material.
VardaValar1: Probably add in missing things like the Old Forest with Bombadil, the fight in the Shire.
Eonwe Valar: That seems to be the trend these days, take a movie that
not even half a century old and remake it *cough* The Karate Kid *cough*
VardaValar1: Aye, they barely make it to CD and here comes the next version.
VardaValar1: Rather see orginal stuff.
VardaValar1: Ok gang. Think about what we can do with the RP. We need to get moving out of Rivendell soon.
VardaValar1: We have an adventure to go on!
VardaValar1: *raises gavel*
VardaValar1: *tinnnnnng*
top
VardaValar1: After-meeting!
VardaValar1: yep, that's the mithril hammer. Can tell from the tinnnng.
AriehnV: hope you got it from moria ^^
ArPharazonV: where else?
VardaValar1: Elves? : )
ArPharazonV: Elves have mithril?
AriehnV: or did they buy it from dwarves|?
AriehnV: they used it to work into jewellry, weapons , armor and .. runes
ArPharazonV: Still originally from mithril then!
ArPharazonV: ehrr from Moria
AriehnV: aye :-)
AriehnV: any other known places for Mithril finds?
Eonwe Valar: I'm guessing some in Valinor.
Eonwe Valar: Well, Aman.
Eonwe Valar: Afk for several minutes.
VardaValar1: The elves probably bought the mithril from the dwarves.
VardaValar1: They are known to have made at least a mail shirt with it. : ) and more.
AriehnV: cool
VardaValar1: The movie version of Thranduil seems to show him wearing
an older version of such a thing. Would be kingly in price.
ArPharazonV: Fit for a king.
VardaValar1: Aye - and keep him safe.
VardaValar1: older version as in for an adult warrior, heh.
Eonwe Valar: Back.
VardaValar1: Welcome back :-)
Eonwe Valar: Thanks.
ArPharazonV: Aiyata
AriehnV: aiyata
ArPharazonV: several minutes, eh?
Eonwe Valar: It was several minutes :}
VardaValar1: heh
AriehnV: Namarie for now and have fun your various undertakings L:-)_
VardaValar1: Namarie Phar :-)
AriehnV: eh ?? something wrong with my body geography =-O
ArPharazonV: Namarie!
ArPharazonV: And I think you're addressing the wrong person, Varda.
AriehnV: *hihi* i guess we all know who she means .. if she doesnt know it herself
AriehnV: :-)
VardaValar1: Namarie Arien :-)
AriehnV: lthere we go :-D
AriehnV: Namarie
AriehnV has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: Need to log out of AIM for now. Take care all, good night, sleep well, and have fun.
