Before-meeting:
You have just entered room "valarguildmeetingplace."
AriehnV has entered the room.
AriehnV: aiya then here too :-)
ArPharazonV: Aiya!
AriehnV: so i wont forget it
ArPharazonV: hehe
AriehnV: btw i loved writing that post .. took me just three hours :-)
ArPharazonV: Sure one of the longer ones I've seen :-)
AriehnV: But i thought the scene deserved a bit depth and the healer had to find something to confirm Elronds suspicions
AriehnV: and Frali was certainly touched by a beginning corruption that just didnt have a chance to come to surface in Imladris
AriehnV: but with Aranwe making him talk over it it came out within limitations and could be faced and healed
ArPharazonV: Aye, he's good at his job :-)
AriehnV: But then how best to write a healing with this kind of ailment ^^
AriehnV: well , Elrond wanted one that is able to do the job hehe
AriehnV: and Eonwe for that matter
ArPharazonV: It was nicely handled, I liked it.
AriehnV: :-D
AriehnV: i would love Aranwe as character to be honest
AriehnV: maybe i ll write a story for him
AriehnV: about his background or past services ...
ArPharazonV: RP fanfiction, could work!
AriehnV: :-D
AriehnV: maybe he has used his skills before in one of the Battles of
Beleriand or dealt with elfs who had been prisoners by Morgoths forces
- something of the kind
AriehnV: i could certainly see him in such a function , maybe the reason why Elrond chose him to examine frali
ArPharazonV: He might be able to help Calaron... if I decide to abandon my current plans for him :-)
AriehnV: would be cool to be able to redeem him :-D
Eonwe Valar has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: Heya.
ArPharazonV: Aiya!
AriehnV: Aiya Eonwe :-)
Eonwe Valar: Give me a moment and we'll begin.
Eonwe Valar: OK, let's being.
Eonwe Valar: begin rather.

Eonwe Valar: Elen Sila Lumenn Omentielvo!
Eonwe Valar: Membership:
fladrifv has entered the room.
fladrifv: Aiyas
Eonwe Valar: Varda had some stuff to take care of, so couldn't be here.
Eonwe Valar: Any other member news?
Eonwe Valar: Heya Fladrif :}
ArPharazonV: Aiya!
Eonwe Valar: No other Member News I guess :}
AriehnV: aiya Flad :-)

Eonwe Valar: Web:
Eonwe Valar: Always something in the background, nothing to announce.

Eonwe Valar: Gaming:
WoW:
Eonwe Valar: Darkmoon Faire this week, wrapup for Midsummer Fire Festival this week, Fourthof July this week.
Eonwe Valar: Insert "WoW" before that last line so it makes sense :}
Eonwe Valar: If you don't have whatever it is you want from Ahune yet, hopefully you'll get it soon.
Eonwe Valar: Lothar: No runs to report this week.
Eonwe Valar: LotRO:
Eonwe Valar: From Varda on the News Page:
Eonwe Valar: We will not be having formally scheduled kin runs, going
informal, and will be pugging as much as running with kin. Most of our
runs tend to be at unscheduled times anyway. Reports have been on
scheduled runs, so those scheduled run reports will necessarily also
stop. If anyone would like to send in an article for the News or on the
Forum, whether about running together or tips for runs, that would be
great. The Tolkien Site is also still open as is the Games Site for
those who like to do game reviews.
AriehnV: bah shame that collapsed
AriehnV: did people leave the kin over that?
Eonwe Valar: People can always still show up on Monday and Wednesday and run together.
Eonwe Valar: Far as I can tell we have lost anyone over it, no. [Note: no one was lost over dropping the scheduled times.]
Eonwe Valar: *haven't
AriehnV: I dont see Indis as often as I did
AriehnV: Irmo i catch a glimpse of
AriehnV: now and again
AriehnV: but not that ofthen anymore ethe
AriehnV: either
Eonwe Valar: In order to have scheduled runs, it of course takes people
showing up, on time (point of *scheduling* them, after all, is to get
started at a recent time) and ready to go, among other things.
Eonwe Valar: Bah, recent = decent
AriehnV: hehe , key demon seems active in the US too ;-)
Eonwe Valar: My fingers think they have their own brains, hehehe.
AriehnV: yip .. the thing is if people want to raid and planned at a
more or less constant time you have to either make time or just admit
you cant come
Eonwe Valar: Aye, and use the Forum to let us know. That's the point of having a signup thread.\
Eonwe Valar: Otherwise can't complain if we do run and you don't get a spot :}
AriehnV: then also one should use it hehe
AriehnV: och aye , but you know my times , saturday afternoons i usually work
AriehnV: and monday or Wednesday runs are too late for me :-\
AriehnV: Even if Arienwyn is now near a raidable level she hasnt really the gear for altho i was able to buy some nice things
AriehnV: 72 since yesterday and kindred standing with Dunlendings , hence owner of a new mount ;-)
Eonwe Valar: Aye, there are certain of us it's usually obvious we're
not coming, but those who would like to come and have a chance of
coming, and are chomping at the bit to do some of this, it'd help if
those who fall into that category would sign up so they are known to be
coming, or post mentioning they're not going to make it this time
round, so those organizing know who to expect and how many spots may
need other arrangements.
Eonwe Valar: There's plenty of other considerations as well, of course.
It is late in the expansion, and the next one's coming in a couple of
months, among other things.
AriehnV: mhh
Eonwe Valar: Congrats on 72 and the new mount, Arien :}
AriehnV: looks nice , Apple ;-)
karakedi25 has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: Wednesday, a few of us did get together, regardless of the status of scheduled runs.
AriehnV: maybe i should think of another name then hehe
AriehnV: Aiya Indis :-)
ArPharazonV: Aiya
Eonwe Valar: Eonwe, Varda, Nimrodel, and Pippin went into Limlight
Gorge to get some of the starting quests complete for Nimrodel and
Eonwe.
Eonwe Valar: Heya Indis.
Eonwe Valar: I don't think any Hoildays are going on in LotRO right
now, and not sure that any are terribly close off the top of my head.
AriehnV has left the room.
karakedi25: not that I know of.
karakedi25: A lot of people are trying to prepare for the expansion.
karakedi25: There haven't been many people from the Valar Guild on lately--vacations?
AriehnV has entered the room.
AriehnV: right what did i miss?
Eonwe Valar: I've no exact details on that, but it's possible some are.
Eonwe Valar: IM'd the missing text to you
AriehnV: ok thanks for that
Eonwe Valar: I imagine some are just taking some time from LotRO before the next expansion too.
AriehnV: bit raided too much and need time to catch breath and be able to appreciate the wonders of the game
AriehnV: I understand
Eonwe Valar: Happens in WoW too, aye. Some people take some time off
until the pre-expansion patch hits, then some of the servers get
clogged as everyone tries to log in at the same time and see what
Blizzard did to WoW, hehe.
Eonwe Valar: Any non-WoW, non-LotRO gaming go on this week?
ArPharazonV: My own guild in WoW has gone rather empty. I hope it'll pick up again around the expansion.
top
ArPharazonV: Few flashgames, including a sequel to one I liked, and some Diablo, but with this heat my pc can't really handle it, so not much of that.
ArPharazonV: The MLP game I
mentioned last week was supposed to come out yesterday, had a timer and
everything, but at the last moment we heard word that since the lead
developers are at the MLP convention in New York (BroNYcon, biggest
pony convention in the world)
Eonwe Valar: Any other Gaming News?
Eonwe Valar: Pardon, thought you were done, hehe.
ArPharazonV: it'll be postponed until tomorrow. So no news yet, but I can guarantee it for next week :-)
Eonwe Valar: Thanks, hehe.
ArPharazonV: They figure it's better to release when the devs are available, in case of bugs etc.
Eonwe Valar: Aye.
ArPharazonV: Allright, that's it for me.
Eonwe Valar: Thanks :}
Eonwe Valar: Any other Gaming News?
karakedi25: Is Varda out of town? [Note: yes, out of town picking up supplies for work]
Eonwe Valar: D3 had patch 1.0.3a this week.
Eonwe Valar: She's busy today. Had some stuff to take care of.
Eonwe Valar: She might make it in late, might not.
AriehnV: I ve played a bit eve but no sign ol Pallando
Eonwe Valar: At least you were able to get him to stop by last week so we know he's ok :}
Eonwe Valar: OK, let's move to Tolkien.
top
Eonwe Valar: Tolkien:
Eonwe Valar: Arien posted to the RP. Quite a sizable one too.
karakedi25: nice post,too
AriehnV: :-D
AriehnV: I had fun clobbing it together ^^. Took me only about three hours
AriehnV: Does it work with the way the corruption has started and restricted within Imladris
AriehnV: ?
Eonwe Valar: I haven't had a chance to read it yet, just see that it was there and sizable :}
AriehnV: The thing I thought was that it wont come out while he is
within the Valley and the House of Elrond but likely would try to get
hold of him once he is leaving
karakedi25: what's the healer going to tell Elrond?
ArPharazonV: "I used Lay on Hands and I think it worked!"
AriehnV: That the weapon is much powerful than is obvious. That Frali
had shown signs of corruption but it has been dealt with - he is
surprisingly restistant and that's something Aranwe will mention to
Elrond
AriehnV: No , the healer will go into the niggly details and mention
that Frali was reluctant to talk, got a bit agitated when he referred
to the taking away of the sword and tried to get it back
AriehnV: He is not really happy with what he found , unfortunatly
AriehnV: Glad he could help but its one more sorrow
Eonwe Valar: Just remember that Dwarves are notoriously resistant to
domination by other wills already. It's why the only way the Rings
affected Dwarves at all was to inflame their lust for gold.
AriehnV: Aye likely the way a corruption would have worked , a try to
lure the dwarf and maybe the whole group into the hands of the enemyu
AriehnV: but its been dealt with :-)
Eonwe Valar: ok :}
Eonwe Valar: Any more on the RP before we move on?
karakedi25: based on what the healer tells him, Elrond will probably
alert the company to the continuing possiblility of corruption
AriehnV: Frali is alert to the danger now and probably will be able to recognise any signs
AriehnV: at least in himself
AriehnV: but for the moment there is no room for any more :-) the last
remnants of corruption that had been there have been driven out
ArPharazonV: So Frali would (ironically?) be the best to keep the sword now if we take it with us?
AriehnV: that is up to you to decide or to Eonwe
AriehnV: but its a possibility
AriehnV: err I mean Elrond
Eonwe Valar has left the room.
Eonwe Valar has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: Oh good, looks like I'm back.
Eonwe Valar: What'd I miss?
ArPharazonV: What's the last thing you saw?
Eonwe Valar: Your comment about the irony of Frali being the best choice for holding onto the sword.
Eonwe Valar: "So Frali would (ironically?) be the best to keep the sword now if we take it with us?"
ArPharazonV: ArPharazonV: So Frali would (ironically?) be the best to
keep the sword now if we take it with us?AriehnV: that is up to you to
decide or to EonweAriehnV: but its a possibilityAriehnV: err I mean
ElrondEonwe Valar has left the room.Eonwe Valar has entered the
room.Eonwe Valar: Oh good, looks like I'm back.
Eonwe Valar: Thanks.
Eonwe Valar: Anything more on the RP?
Eonwe Valar: I've gone over Arien's post, but I want to go over it again before making any comments etc.
ArPharazonV: take your time?
AriehnV: hmm i bet you tear it apart ^^
Eonwe Valar: Don't believe I've done that to an actual post yet, hehe.
Eonwe Valar: I'd rather take my time on it when other people aren't sitting here getting bored staring at the meeting channel :}
ArPharazonV: Just browsing in the meantime, don't worry about me!
Eonwe Valar: So, if tehre's no more on the RP for now, we can either
andjorn the meeting and move into Aftermeeting, or we can try to
discuss what we got a bit sidetracked from last week :}
Eonwe Valar: *there's, adjourn
ArPharazonV: Ah yes, what's actually *on the way* to Angmar
Eonwe Valar: So, who is here and interested in discussing that? Say Fastitocalon.
AriehnV: a lot of Mountains bog
ArPharazonV: Fastitocalon
AriehnV: Fastitolocalon
Eonwe Valar: Well that's three of us at least :}
Eonwe Valar: OK, Land between Rivendell and Angmar:
ArPharazonV: I'll go grab the atlas again.
AriehnV: Rocks, caves, or bog on the river shore
Eonwe Valar: Primarily, it's the Land of Rhudaur, which is the eastern division of the former kingdom of Arnor.
Eonwe Valar: This land was depeopled fairly quickly after its division and repeopled by Men in league with Angmar.
ArPharazonV: Allright, got the map of the Misty Mountains in the Atlas, pages 80 and 81.
Eonwe Valar: If there's anyone who remains of Dunedain blood in the
area by the time period we're in, it's very few and probably
surprising. I'm of course ruling out Rangers who may or may not patrol
the area.
ArPharazonV: Edge of the Wild, Coldfells, Hoardale, then the
Ettenmoors, Mount Gram on our left side, misty mountains on the right
side
ArPharazonV: Rhudaur's placed to the west-northwest of Rivendell but it
might well extend up to Mount Gram. Shouldn't be too many ruins of
human civilization.
Eonwe Valar: Rhudaur consisted of the land between the Ettenmoors, the
Weather Hills (Cardolan and Rhudaur fought over them), and the Misty
Mountains, as well as the Angle between the Hoarwell and Loudwater. (Appendix A, iii)
ArPharazonV: The forest appears to end quickly, mostly spreading
westwards from Imladris and not northwards. From what I interpret from
the map it's a broken land, filled with streams and little rivers, up
to the Hoardale.
ArPharazonV: then yes, it falls under Rhudaur.
AriehnV: that would be a very hilly countryside there with the Coldfells and Ettenmoor
ArPharazonV: Aye. Maybe some cliffs and waterfalls.
ArPharazonV: I'm thinking that might be where the Coldfells gets its name.
AriehnV: various rivers to cross
AriehnV: nah not really actually , the ridges looked a bit like streams
ArPharazonV: Yes, but streams make ridges :-)
AriehnV: true enough hehe
ArPharazonV: And the large quantity of rivers and the directions they flow in make me believe it's quite varied in relief.
AriehnV: Marshland is indicated
AriehnV: so boggy anyway ^^
Eonwe Valar: Marshland based on what indicators?
ArPharazonV: I don't think so. I think the indicator's wrong. If you
look at the Midgewater Marshes the terrain is symbolized differently.
ArPharazonV: If you have a blank indicator in the atlas like me it would mean that nearly all of Eriador is marshland ;-)
AriehnV: well there is a blank under ground with some brown waves
AriehnV: the brown wavy lines i think mean mountains?
AriehnV: or hills rather
Eonwe Valar: There *are* the Midgewater Marshes, but they're west of the Weather Hills.
ArPharazonV: Yes, Eonwe, I'm just saying that those Marshes are portrayed differently on the map.
Eonwe Valar: Aye. I wasn't arguing for marshes, just noting where some are.
AriehnV: the space between the brown wavy lines is blank without
symbols in my atlas so i dont really know what there is other than rocks
AriehnV: when I think of our local hills here, the Cuillin - there is a a lot of slate where muranes came down
AriehnV: thats the sort of mountains I envisage
ArPharazonV: Rocks and streams. It seems to slope down to the southwest
judging by most of the flow direction, though there's also slopes to
the west and south.
ArPharazonV: And a few northwest to the Hoardale.
ArPharazonV: Not much woodland, apparently, so probably grasses and shrubs.
ArPharazonV: We might find some goats, if the trolls didn't eat them all.
ArPharazonV: Do you think there might be trolls, or is that more to the west?
AriehnV: trolls towards the Coldfells and the Hoardale
Eonwe Valar: Only sparsely if at all. No armies of them, and likely not working with orcs.
Eonwe Valar: Got a citation for that Arien, so we can refer back to it later?
Eonwe Valar: Shall we bang the gavel here?
ArPharazonV: Hmm, wait.
AriehnV: found it
ArPharazonV: I'm seeing a description here on an online Arda
encyclopedia which confirms the existence of trolls, with sources,
though I've yet to find the source material myself, pages are probably
off anyway.
ArPharazonV: Ah, Arien may have it.
AriehnV: just was searching
AriehnV: Appendix I , part V
AriehnV: In the part of the tale of Aragorn and Arwen
AriehnV: at the beginning
ArPharazonV: is it the part about Aragorn's grandfather?
AriehnV: yep
ArPharazonV: yep, that's what the online bit says too
Eonwe Valar: So they were in the area within the last century at least.
AriehnV: "And it happened , when
Arathorn and Gilraen had been married just one year, Arador was taken
by hill-trollis in the Coldfells north of Rivendell, and was slain."
ArPharazonV: According to this piece, the Ettenmoors are also described in the Flight to the Ford chapter as the "Troll-fells north of Rivendell", so that would present trolls in both areas.
ArPharazonV: Ah, here it is, "If we
keep on as we are going we shall get up into the Ettendales far north
of Rivendell. That is troll-country, and little known to me."
ArPharazonV: A quote from Aragorn.
ArPharazonV: Not the description I was looking for but close enough.
AriehnV: I think there is something in the chapter describing the time of the fellowship in Rivendell before they set up
AriehnV: err set out
ArPharazonV: http://www.glyphweb.com/arda/c/coldfells.html
if you want to know where I'm getting this from. As I said, it states
its source material, though I've not managed to locate it.
AriehnV: it saids on that side that "the ground was so rocky that it was impossible to ride"
ArPharazonV: That's in the Ettenmoors.
ArPharazonV: We should be passing to the east of those.
AriehnV: Right
AriehnV: Where was Elronds wife held captive?
AriehnV: was that in the Ettenmoors?
ArPharazonV: Hmm, I thought that was in the Misty Mountains.
Eonwe Valar: It was.
Eonwe Valar: She was waylaid in the Redhorn Pass. while on a journey to Lorien
Eonwe Valar: 2509
Eonwe Valar: It's 7:15 Eastern time, so we should probably bang the gavel here and let you all get some rest now :}
Eonwe Valar: *raises gavel into the air*
Eonwe Valar: *bangs gavel*
top
Eonwe Valar: Aftermeeting.
AriehnV: "we have come now to the
River Hoarwell, that the Elves call Mitheithel. It flows down out of
the Ettenmoors, the troll-fells north of Rivendell, and joins the
Loudwater in the South"
ArPharazonV: Ah, there it is.
AriehnV: is that the quote you meant, Phara?
ArPharazonV: Yes.
AriehnV: "Flight to the Ford"
ArPharazonV: I knew the chapter, but it's a large chapter.
AriehnV: I was starting to read the chapter after i found the reference on the site and luckily came across it fairly soon hehe
AriehnV: five pages into it or so
AriehnV: four actually in this edition
ArPharazonV: Fifth and sixth pages for me.
fladrifv has left the room.
AriehnV has left the room.
karakedi25 has left the room.
Eonwe Valar has left the room.
Eonwe Valar has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar has left the room.
ArPharazonV: Last one remaining, saving and sending transcript.
VardaValar1: Aiya Phar :-)
ArPharazon-V: Aiya!
ArPharazon-V): I"m just sending you the transcript!
VardaValar1: Good timing, heh
VardaValar1: Thank you
VardaValar1: I'm home
VardaValar1: Wow, you're all alone in here.
ArPharazon-V: Yep, seemed like good timing to send it in :)
VardaValar1: Good plan, thanks!
ArPharazon-V: and sent
VardaValar1: sure enough, there it is!
VardaValar1: hehe - nice added comment
ArPharazon-V: Looks like my "last one out" wasn't quite as correct after all!
VardaValar1: It was true. I'm way late.
VardaValar1: wow, long post by Arien
ArPharazon-V: Yep.
ArPharazon-V: Well, I'm off, namarie!
VardaValar1: Namarie and thanks again. :-)
ArPharazon-V: No problem!
