AriehnV: yikes hehe aye ye have to put up wi * that
AriehnV: if ye want to see some impressive landscape from Scotland watch "Rome"
AriehnV: er i mean " The Eagle"
fladrifv: scotland is on the list :-)
AriehnV: but the Eagle of course is Rome
VardaValar1: New Zealand is interesting to us all as the home of LotR movies. :-) and the upcoming Hobbit.
fladrifv: been at weta works
fladrifv: the digital art maker
fladrifv: for lord of the rings and hobbit
VardaValar1: o cool
fladrifv: seen all the sculptures they made
AriehnV: impressive
fladrifv: and the real size sauron
ArPharazonV: Oh, I saw a lot of footage from that place on the EE dvds.
AriehnV: wow
fladrifv: its incredible how much detail his harnas has
fladrifv: and helmet
ArPharazonV: :-)
fladrifv: unfortunate no picture zone
VardaValar1: So you come up to...his belt?
fladrifv: lol actually full hight
fladrifv: he is only 1 meter 80 or so
AriehnV: only aye .. just about a head taller than me hehe
VardaValar1: Heard they were working on the Hobbit holes again, setting them up. Did you get to see them?
fladrifv: unfortunately not
VardaValar1: Off limits?
fladrifv: maybe they where already finished
ArPharazonV: They were on site, though, weren't they?
galdorandwe has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya Galdor
galdorandwe: Aiya
ArPharazonV: And permanent, this time
ArPharazonV: Aiya
fladrifv: have seen many from new line cinema in australia in sydney airport
VardaValar1: The tourist industry will love that. : )
fladrifv: they need to put some final things up
fladrifv: bit sad those empty hills with imaginary hobbittons
VardaValar1: I heard that for a while NZ propped up some Hobbit doors at the old site. : )
VardaValar1: Supposed to be much better this go around.
ArPharazonV: Yep, you should actually be able to open the doors this time.
fladrifv: ill check next time :-)
fladrifv: and see dirt behind?
ArPharazonV: Not sure, actually.
VardaValar1: There's talk that NZ now isn't requiring it all to be turned back to pristine land, since they found out how great the sites were for the tourist business.
fladrifv: lol
VardaValar1: We're looking forward to your pics. I'll be glad to put them up on our site. Going to charge us? :-)
fladrifv: ill filter them :-)
fladrifv: so many bad ones lol
VardaValar1: Thanks!
ArPharazonV: There's no such thing as a bad picture of New Zealand.
VardaValar1: Just so dark or blurry that it can't be seen.
ArPharazonV: Perhaps.
VardaValar1: Need one of Flad
fladrifv: starts to grow branches :-)
VardaValar1: Ok, we'll be watching for pics. Just attach them to an email to me and we'll go from there.
VardaValar1: Email on the Members section
fladrifv: cool

VardaValar1: on to Gaming
fladrifv: does one step more away from the stage
VardaValar1: in non-WoW, non-LotRO gaming:
VardaValar1: Sauron and Arien were in Star Wars: The Old Republic together
VardaValar1: then later in the week his republic character got stuck, known bug they told him, and was left trapped.
VardaValar1: So he's been playing Empire side, in case you wonder why you haven't seen him.
VardaValar1: Arien, any comment on SW:TOR?
ArPharazonV: Ah, fresh games and their bugs.
VardaValar1: TOR is verrrry buggy. Sauron says they're fixing the bugs just after his character has been through a place.
AriehnV: oh thats where he is
AriehnV: just wonderingf why he didnt turn up anymore
VardaValar1: Eowyn and her husband tried to join SW:TOR but, unlike WoW and LotRO, it won't allow people to play through a proxy server, so they had to return the games and the 6 month subscription
AriehnV: gah
VardaValar1: Oh Sauron's been on a lot but stuck in the Empire. The Dark Side got him!
VardaValar1: Any other fun stuff?
karakedi25 has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya Indis
AriehnV: pfft ..need an invite for Rieka there btw , but my Sage is lvl 36 and Barsentor .. Warden of the Order and one of the youngest Jedi Masters ^^
ArPharazonV: Couple of flashgames, some fun, but nothing special.
karakedi25: aiya
VardaValar1: Arien, did you put them in the Valar channel?
AriehnV: i put Rieka in the Valar channel aye
AriehnV: what is the name of Saurons character ?
VardaValar1: My Tintalli needs an invite too
VardaValar1: His names are on the Membership page:
VardaValar1: (Republic Annatar, Thauron; Empire Sauronv, Tevildo).
AriehnV: ok :-)

VardaValar1: On to WoW:
VardaValar1: Eonwe, you had a report?
Eonwe Valar: Aye.
Eonwe Valar: Sunday:
Eonwe Valar: Attending: Glorfindel, Elwing, Bilbo, Eonë, Fangorn.
Eonwe Valar: First, Glorfindel, Bilbo, Elwing, and Eonwë went into Blackwing Lair for transmog gear and cleared the place.
Eonwe Valar: Then we went to Obsidian Sanctum, and Fangorn joined us just as we were beginning. We got through on hard mode once again, and Eonwë won the drake.
Eonwe Valar: Friday: i didn't make it on in time, so I'm not aware of any running that went on.
AriehnV: grats :-D
VardaValar1: (We're going to look like a flight of drakes)
Eonwe Valar: Thus concludes my report.
VardaValar1: Thanks, Eonwe :-)
VardaValar1: Bilbo and I plan to join you tonight. Bilbo's on right now.

VardaValar1: LotRO:
Glorfindel VG has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Monday we had an early run at 1:30 pm Eastern, for the Watcher. Slightly undermanned but we had lots of folks who'd never seen it before and had quite an experience with all those tentacles.
VardaValar1: For an instant replay of one of those experiences, try that ominous pool near the kinhouse door. Stand in it and click the name. ^^
VardaValar1: Aiya Glorfindel :-)
Glorfindel VG: Aiya : )
ArPharazonV: LotRO has interactive replay-areas?
VardaValar1: At the regular Monday time, most of the gang had already played all they were going to but we did some 3-mans of Sword Halls and Fangorn's Edge.
VardaValar1: Phar, actually you can re-do a dungeon epic by entering a pool, not a re-play of the same thing.
ArPharazonV: Ahh.
VardaValar1: The Ominous Pool is a housing yard trophy at our kin house that you can stand in.
ArPharazonV: Neat.
VardaValar1: For those who will never go do that, a tentacle comes out of the pool and dangles you, just like happens in the Watcher instance.
VardaValar1: Grabs your character, bounces you around, then tosses you like something not worth eating. :-)
VardaValar1: Wednesday we did a Foundry run
VardaValar1: Then Friday and through the weekend, we had the Treasure Hunt. New mounts and housing items, new things to do.
VardaValar1: http://www.lotro.com/lotroburiedtreasure
VardaValar1: Saturday we ran three 12-man skirmishes at Tier 2, completing them very well. No symbols dropped but it was otherwise perfect.
VardaValar1: Mirel asks that those wanting to go on the Saturday runs be sure to post that you're coming. This lets us know if we have enough for a Draigoch raid.
VardaValar1: If we don't have enough posting, we try not to tell people that they can't do that raid outside the kin and after Thursday. Not fair to the others.
VardaValar1: So let us know for planning's sake. : )
VardaValar1: We can still do the 12-man skirmishes, so it all works out.
VardaValar1: Any other comments, business, remarks?
VardaValar1: WoW is planned after the meeting. Regular scheduled time of 7pm Eastern. (6pm Central for most of the WoW group, so we hear munching in the background.)
VardaValar1: Tolkien:
VardaValar1: Did anyone have a Tolkien topic they just thought of or that we forgot we were going to do this week? (Would we forget? *cough*)
VardaValar1: oh, back on gaming
VardaValar1: Arien asked for a Helegrod run. The three wings are 12-man pre-reqs, then the dragon fight is a 24-man. We have a sign-up on the forum now.
VardaValar1: And Thranduil says hi. He's been having trouble with his internet and father was in the hospital, so he's been scarce lately.
VardaValar1: Lothiriel is back after 2 years without a computer. And she brought her two kids too, so we may see new MoH's if lucky. : )
top

VardaValar1: Back to Tolkien
VardaValar1: We have an rp that should probably be given some TLC this week.
VardaValar1: How many are present now?
Eonwe Valar: I've been considering my next post.
karakedi25: *waves*
Glorfindel VG: present
ArPharazonV: present
VardaValar1: Need to know if Menelvagor wants to bow out at this juncture or continue on. So if anyone sees him, might ask.

VardaValar1: Ok, each of us in alphabetical order gets to ask the rest of us one question over the Lord of the Rings. Any subject at all. : )
VardaValar1: Arien, you get to start.
VardaValar1: (Alphabetical by AIM name)
VardaValar1: If you don't know the answer, don't ask. : )
VardaValar1: It can be kindly easy or really hard or in between.
AriehnV: ahahaha
AriehnV: present
VardaValar1: hah, poke worked.
AriehnV: eerr Arda
ArPharazonV: Will this be like a trivia quiz, or something you'd truly like to know?
VardaValar1: You're supposed to ask a trivia question, aye.
VardaValar1: If it's something you'd truly like to know, preface the question with that.
VardaValar1: Arien, your turn to ask a question.
VardaValar1: (Some may be swiped for testing.)
VardaValar1: We'll just go through one time. Probably time-consuming to do more.
AriehnV: hmm let me think ... In the lord of the Rings there is a special trait to Hobbit surnames . Can you remember which it is?
VardaValar1: Vegetation?
VardaValar1: o pardon, that's first names.
karakedi25: Most did refer to some aspect of nature, but not all (e.g., Baggins)
karakedi25: Or perhaps I should say personal traits such as proudfoot or nature, including such as underhill
karakedi25: That's not a complete answer though.
AriehnV: yip or Longbottom ^^ , not to say more :-)
AriehnV: also names like Underhill , which aspect of nature tho referring to the habbit of where they live
VardaValar1: Rosie Cotton
AriehnV: tells us something about the sort of clothing they like to wear maybe
ArPharazonV: Or what they produce.
AriehnV: so i d think .. the answere is , the surname usually tells us something about a habit or a physical feature or what they like
VardaValar1: Thanks Arien :-)
VardaValar1: Ar-Pharazon's turn.
ArPharazonV: Hmm. Tough one.
ArPharazonV: Still not sure what kind of questions we're going for here.
VardaValar1: Trivia is fine, or a question you really want to know but tell us if it's the latter.
VardaValar1: From Lord of the Rings books.
ArPharazonV: Hmm, let's make it a trivia then.
ArPharazonV: How many nights did the Fellowship spend in Moria?
VardaValar1: Since these questions can be murder, it's ok to look them up in the books. Internet seems a bit unfair.
ArPharazonV: Possibly more difficult to find this one on the internet, since it's not a specific mention in the main text, but requires... well.. math, I guess, as simple as it is.
VardaValar1: Se we can work together to figure it out
VardaValar1: Night when they were at the first door.
Glorfindel VG: I recall Gandalf saying it's a 4 day journey to the other side in the movie.. but i'm pretty sure its 2 nights in the book..
ArPharazonV: Won't help you here, since I looked it up as I asked ;-)
AriehnV: two i think i can remember or maybe even only one
AriehnV: I definitely remember sitting them at the fire round that well in which Pippin cast a stone .. fool of a Tuk!
VardaValar1: Frodo asks how long it will take, Gandalf says it's no less than 40 miles straight line from West-door to East-gate in a straight line, but the road winds much.
VardaValar1: Frodo could see in the dark better than anyone except maybe Gandalf, with the help of the Ring
VardaValar1: The well seems to be still on the first night
Glorfindel VG: that was second i believe
Glorfindel VG: first night gandalf took over pippins watch and had a smoke
Glorfindel VG: they slept for 6 hours
Glorfindel VG: then decided to follow his nose
VardaValar1: "It was after nightfall when they had entered the Mines. They had been going for several hours with only brief halts, when Gandalf came to his first serious check." They go a little farther to the well where Pippin drops his stone.
VardaValar1: Then they sleep.
VardaValar1: for about 6 hours just like you said
VardaValar1: Aye, Glor. We're in the same place.
VardaValar1: Then they travel 8 hours.
VardaValar1: Then 15 more miles.
VardaValar1: and it's night again. Gandalf lights up the place with his staff.
VardaValar1: They spend the night there in that hall.
VardaValar1: Gimli chants (good landmark for looking through the chapter)
VardaValar1: They find the tomb on that next day. You can see the rune pictures in the book.
VardaValar1: That was ch. 4. Now we're in ch. 5.
VardaValar1: The book is given to Gimli, forgot about that. : )
VardaValar1: He's asked to give it to Dain.
ArPharazonV: So he carries it with him for the rest of the story?
VardaValar1: Possibly
VardaValar1: How about a bit of light reading before bed? :-)
ArPharazonV: heh
ArPharazonV: Nothing like the last dying screams of your kinsmen in bookform before going to sleep.
VardaValar1: Gandalf uses magic to block the door.
VardaValar1: heh, or dream of the truesilver they said they found. : )
ArPharazonV: True! I'm sure not all of the book was as much bad news as the end of it.
VardaValar1: Run an hour down many stairs.
VardaValar1: Balrog fun
VardaValar1: Detail I had forgotten when they saw the Balrog. After Legolas dropped his arrow, Gimli dropped his axe.
VardaValar1: They run outside into daylight.
VardaValar1: So they enter at night and travel. Sleep another night. Then they run out during daytime.
VardaValar1: Is that right?
Eonwe Valar: Sounds right.
ArPharazonV: Yep, that's right. And according to the Appendix they reach the river at nightfall. So 2 nights are spent in Moria!
fladrifv has left the room.
VardaValar1: One night of travel, one night where they sleep.
ArPharazonV: Well, some sleep in the first night.
VardaValar1: 3 hours after noon they had come only a few miles from the Gates and the sun was westering.
VardaValar1: That's where they bind their wounds and we find the hobbit-skin of mithril. : )
VardaValar1: Deep night when they reach Lorien. This is in ch 6.
VardaValar1: ok, we spent a lot of time on that question. Guess the appendix would have been much faster. ^^
VardaValar1: Want to take one more question?
VardaValar1: If we do, it's Eonwe's.
ArPharazonV: Sounds good :-) Didn't realize that small question would last so long!
VardaValar1: heh
Eonwe Valar: I only have one question... in 27 parts. :} (kidding and kudos if you get the reference :})
VardaValar1: (yep, appendix would have been much faster. *sigh*)
Eonwe Valar: My actual question is simple and as follows: What approximate percentage of the Dwarven population is female?
VardaValar1: (Jan 13, 3019 Night at the gate. 14th night in Hall 21. 15th Bridge. Late that night reach Nimrodel.)
ArPharazonV: Exactly, Varda ;-)
karakedi25: more than appear on the surface of Middle-earth
karakedi25: lots more
ArPharazonV: About a third, I thought?
VardaValar1: Much less than half the population. Phar probably right.
Eonwe Valar: About 1/3rd is correct.
VardaValar1: Galdor is away cooking.
Glorfindel VG: Do they have beards as well?
VardaValar1: Glorfindel, want to ask a question?
VardaValar1: Yes they do. :-)
Glorfindel VG: okie doke
ArPharazonV: Probably soft and silky like in Discworld? ;-)
VardaValar1: Can hardly tell them from male if you're not Dwarven. : )
Glorfindel VG: Who was it in Minas Tirith that said "the hands of the king are the hands of a healer"
VardaValar1: Ioreth?
Eonwe Valar: To be indistringuishable from the men, they would have to have beards. Blame Aulë for not thinking (or perhaps for thinking) of that.
Eonwe Valar: *indistinguishible
Glorfindel VG: Aye
VardaValar1: Aule was married to someone that took the shape of a huge tree some days. How was he to know. ;-)
VardaValar1: Thanks Glor :-)
VardaValar1: Glor is special, got two good questions in fast. ^^
VardaValar1: Gilraen, are you with us?
VardaValar1: Guess not. Indis, would you like to ask one?
Glorfindel VG: The first wasnt meant to be my question
Glorfindel VG: heh
VardaValar1: Joshing you, good buddy.
karakedi25: yes, I believe it was Ioreth
Eonwe Valar has left the room.
Eonwe Valar has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Welcome back, Eonwe :-)
VardaValar1: Indis, it's your turn to ask a question
Eonwe Valar: Thanks. Random disconnect.
VardaValar1: Must be the name of one of Sauron's minions.
karakedi25: OK, an easy one. Who invented the first elven writing system?
VardaValar1: Feanor
karakedi25: nope
Eonwe Valar: Rumil if memory serves as well as it should.
ArPharazonV: Was thinking Rumil, if I got the name correct.
VardaValar1: o thar sounds right
karakedi25: yes, Rumil
VardaValar1: *that
VardaValar1: yay : )
ArPharazonV: Amazing how a name like that sticks.
karakedi25: Feanor adapted Rumil's system.
VardaValar1: Who or what brought Faramir's body back to Gondor?
ArPharazonV: His horse if the movie is to be believed, but I'll take a look at the book.
karakedi25: If memory serves, he was brought back on a bier.
karakedi25: Gandalf helped retrieve him.
ArPharazonV: Oh, I'm reading here something about the Prince of Dol Amroth carrying him in on his horse.
VardaValar1: Right, Phar
ArPharazonV: Imrahil.
VardaValar1: Aye
VardaValar1: And that completes our round of trivia questions. Good stuff!
ArPharazonV: "The mounted knights returned, and at their rear the banner of Dol Amroth, and the Prince.
VardaValar1: Thank you all.
VardaValar1: Ah quotes. Pray continue.
ArPharazonV: And in his arms before him on his horse he bore the body of his kinsman, Faramir son of Denethor, found upon the stricken field."
ArPharazonV: that's all I wanted to quote :-)
VardaValar1: Proved it
VardaValar1: I like to see the Professor's words. : )
VardaValar1: *swings the dainty hammer of Varda*
VardaValar1: *tinnnnnng*
top

VardaValar1: After-meeting!
AriehnV: "softens the hammer by tempering it with sun rays"
VardaValar1: Hmm, a softened hammer.
VardaValar1: Wouldn't tempering usually harden it?
VardaValar1: Fusion, rough stuff.
AriehnV: ok maybe it was the wrong word
AriehnV: but didnt want to melt it :-D would be too hot to handle
VardaValar1: *eyes the puddle of the dainty hammer of Varda*
VardaValar1: *makes yet another mold, hammer-shaped*
VardaValar1: *A new constellation called the Hammer now swings ever through the night skies*
AriehnV: :-D
VardaValar1: annnnnd time for WoW. : )
VardaValar1: Good night, gang. : )
ArPharazonV: So..
ArPharazonV: we have the sickle of the Valar
AriehnV: good luck with whatever you going to do
ArPharazonV: and now the Hammer
VardaValar1: Right, Phar. : )
AriehnV: nice , i love new stars and constellations
ArPharazonV: isn't that combination usually known as a communist symbol?
AriehnV: we ve got a famous astrologer holding some lectures across the highlands at the moment in the open university thing
AriehnV: aye i think yer right Phara
ArPharazonV: An astrologer, even? Not an astronomer?
VardaValar1: You probably mean an astronomer if the lecture is at a university.
VardaValar1: My password is not working in WoW. hmmm
ArPharazonV: caps?
VardaValar1: Tried with and without caps. Good guess
Glorfindel VG: uh oh :-(
Glorfindel VG: hoping you didnt get hacked varda
VardaValar1: Got a new password now :-)
VardaValar1: and in!
ArPharazonV: Oh? How odd. I'd check your bank and gear first, then.
VardaValar1: I think a recent password change for security got written down wrong. *cough*
VardaValar1: it looks fine
ArPharazonV: Ah, good.
karakedi25: namarie
ArPharazonV: namarie
karakedi25 has left the room.
VardaValar1: Namarie :-)
VardaValar1 has left the room.
galdorandwe: wow..I'm just getting back...people are still here?
ArPharazonV: Yeah, I'm saving and sending transcript soon. But there's been little activity for.. an hour and a half or so?
galdorandwe: I split to make and eat dinner a LOOOOOOOOOOONG time ago and just got back, LOL
galdorandwe: Had seafood salad over lettuce and tomaoes....delicious
ArPharazonV: Not a fan of salads and lettuce. Something about cold/raw vegetables that I just can't stand. But if it works for you, that's good :-)
Glorfindel VG: Namarie all :-)
ArPharazonV: namarie
Glorfindel VG has left the room.
galdorandwe: well, I love it..and the chianti I had went well with it
ArPharazonV: :-)
galdorandwe: I see a name I do not recognize....
galdorandwe: Irynth
ArPharazonV: that's.. what's her name...
ArPharazonV: Gilraen
galdorandwe: ah
AriehnV: Namarie nightowls :-)
ArPharazonV: namarie
AriehnV: *waves at Galdor"
galdorandwe: Night Arien
galdorandwe: Perhaps your Helegrod dreams will come true :-)
AriehnV: i hope so :-)
AriehnV: i ll be on LotrO tomorrow .. err today at some point ;
AriehnV: be safe
AriehnV has left the room.
ArPharazonV: allright, saving and sending transcript!
