Before-meeting:
You have just entered room "valarguildmeetingplace."
Eonwe Valar has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: Heya.
ArPharazonV: Aiya!
Iryenth has entered the room.
ArPharazonV: Arien's in WoW as well, so I'm trying to point her towards AIM ;-)
Eonwe Valar: Hehe, ok.
Eonwe Valar: Give me a couple of minutes and we'll begin.
AriehnV has entered the room.
AriehnV: aiya all
ArPharazonV: Aiya :-)
AriehnV: whats the exact website url again? i dont have the link in my favorites in the maxthon browser yet
AriehnV: and thats a lot faster than the exploder
ArPharazonV: for what? the guild?
AriehnV: yup
ArPharazonV: http://www.valarguild.org/ [Note: the domain name is http://valarguild.org and for some folk the www version does not work.]
AriehnV: oki do :-)
AriehnV: done
ArPharazonV: Am I missing part of the conversation here?
AriehnV: there is nothing being said ^^
AriehnV: just the sound of silence
ArPharazonV: ah
AriehnV: shall we try and get through the business then? with this
number and the lack of news on the site we should be done fast :-)
ArPharazonV: Eonwe's hosting, I think?
AriehnV: is he here?
ArPharazonV: And he needed a few minutes
ArPharazonV: yes, don't you have a list of people?
AriehnV: ah right , yeah i see his name but he seems to be afk
AriehnV: ok then lets give him a few minutes
Eonwe Valar: Back.
ArPharazonV: Aiyata
Eonwe Valar: Sorry about that. Everyone ready to begin?
Eonwe Valar: Thanks :}
AriehnV: Aiyata
Eonwe Valar: and Thanks :}

top
Eonwe Valar: Elen Sila Lumenn Omentielvo!
Eonwe Valar: Membership:
Eonwe Valar: Varda is out of town on family business the next couple of days. I'm still here if anyone needs anything :}
AriehnV: yay :-)
Eonwe Valar: :}
Eonwe Valar: Any other Membership news?
ArPharazonV: Don't know when she'll see this, but my condolences to Varda.
AriehnV: and my holidays are over officially apart from that two days off coming
AriehnV: and my condolations to her of course as well. Her family will be in my thoughts
Eonwe Valar: Aye.
Iryenth: Gwaihir and I saw The Hobbit yesterday. Mixed feelings overall.
ArPharazonV: 2d or 3?
Iryenth: 3D, though to be honest it didn't add much to the experience, barely utilised at all
Eonwe Valar: That's sad.
Eonwe Valar: I'll probably go see it in a week or two.
ArPharazonV: I don't really go to cinemas. I'll probably hold off until an extended edition dvd.
ArPharazonV: Besides...
ArPharazonV: ..I've read the book.
Eonwe Valar: Hehe.
Iryenth: hahaha
Iryenth: Overall it was a good movie standing on its own, but we were a
little disappointed at some of the things that were changed or moved
around.
ArPharazonV: Yeah, that was the case for me with LotR
as well. It helped to think of it as a stand-alone project that was
loosely based on the book, and appreciate it in its own right.
Iryenth: so I would recommend it, but beware that it's not faithful to the book
Eonwe Valar: Yeah, that tends to be the way things go.
Iryenth: Aye, Phara. It will be interesting to see how closely they follow the rest of the story, or not.
ArPharazonV: Out of curiosity, seeing as it's 1/3rd of the new trilogy...
ArPharazonV: where does it stop?
ArPharazonV: IM me if you don't want to spoil it for the rest
Eonwe Valar: OK, onward :}
top
Eonwe Valar: Web:
Eonwe Valar: In case you missed it from last week's After-meeting, the
Games Site has been restyled and had some fancy new stuff thrown in.
Check it out :}
Eonwe Valar: http://www.valarguild.org/eonwe if for some reason you don't already know :}
Eonwe Valar: Varda also updated the Quizzes section of the Tolkien Site.
Eonwe Valar: "Quizzes for Fun now have their own frames for easier navigation. Want to make your own?"
top
Eonwe Valar: Gaming:
Eonwe Valar: WoW:
Eonwe Valar: Feast of Winterveil is going now. don't forget the daily
gives Justice Points, and there's a chance you can get a 480 dagger
that looks like a Christmas tree, or so I understand.
ArPharazonV: And a pet.
Eonwe Valar: Even better.
Eonwe Valar: LotRO:
Eonwe Valar: I think they're awaiting the release of Update 9.
Eonwe Valar: The official site says the servers are going down Monday "for an update to the game" so that might just be it. [Note: correct, it was Update 9.]
Eonwe Valar: Any other gaming news? Now would be a good time for Tolkien topics too.
ArPharazonV: Few bits.
ArPharazonV: Did some more flashgaming, and of those I'll share a frustrating little platformer with you.
ArPharazonV: finding a good site for it...
ArPharazonV: http://www.kongregate.com/games/gametronstudios/cp6 In this game you play CP6, a little sprite that is trying to avoid being deleted by making its way through computer-y platform puzzles.
ArPharazonV: Only half the game is available as of now, but the first
half is frustrating enough, and I haven't finished it yet. You have to
run across floors and tiles of different colors that'll do different
things to you, and the trick is to find, in each level, 3 keys of some
sort and then making it to the exit.
ArPharazonV: So good luck!
ArPharazonV: And the second bit:
AriehnV: sounds fun
ArPharazonV: My Little Investigations, a well-made crime-solving MLP
fangame (based on the Ace Attorney game series for those who are
familiar) has put out a second gameplay demo. It's coming along rather
well, and the demo is quite impressive in art and gameplay.
ArPharazonV: Finding you a link.
ArPharazonV: http://www.equestriandreamers.com/downloads/
ArPharazonV: If you're interested, give it a go!
ArPharazonV: And that's it for me.
Eonwe Valar: Thanks Phar :}
Eonwe Valar: Looks like D3 had patch 1.0.6a this past week.
Eonwe Valar: Any other gaming news/other news before we move on?
top
Eonwe Valar: Tolkien:
Eonwe Valar: How about a quick round of trivia?
Eonwe Valar: If you're here, say Cuivienen.
ArPharazonV: Cuivienen.
Eonwe Valar: Wow, just you and me, hehe.
Eonwe Valar: OK, let's see....
AriehnV: Cuivienen
AriehnV: sort of .. that little game is rather addictive :-P
Eonwe Valar: hehe
ArPharazonV: *grin*
Eonwe Valar: Well it'll only be one round of trivia :}
AriehnV: all right :-)
Eonwe Valar: How many rows of mounds are there for the restingplace of the Kings of Rohan?
ArPharazonV: Hmm. Didn't a third row get started for Eomer?
Eonwe Valar: Did it? :}
ArPharazonV: I don't recall.
Eonwe Valar: Who would've been buried in the last row of the second mound?
ArPharazonV: But that would mean there are 2 rows at the time of the war of the ring, and I'm not sure one mound makes a row ;-)
ArPharazonV: Theoden.
ArPharazonV: ehr...
AriehnV: i dont think so actually he is the brother of Theoden
Eonwe Valar: And why would a third row be started?
AriehnV: /
ArPharazonV: you mean the last mound of the second row?
AriehnV: I mean his son
ArPharazonV: Oh. Right. Theodred.
Eonwe Valar: Er, last mound of the second row, yes.
Eonwe Valar: And it would've been Theoden.
AriehnV: so .. yes Eomer would have started a third isnt it
ArPharazonV: *facepalm* right, Theoden died after his son.
Eonwe Valar: Eomer was the nephew of Theoden, not a direct descendant, so when he died he started a third row for his line.
ArPharazonV: To be fair, those who buried him did.
Eonwe Valar: Technically, yes, hehe.
AriehnV: nine mounds for each line?
AriehnV: Theoden then would be the last of the second row and yes Eomer would start a new line for your answers in short :-)
Eonwe Valar: 9 sounds about right, Arien. Don't recall the exact number off the top of my head for the first two rows.
ArPharazonV: So in 500 years the line was only broken once, up to the war of the ring.
Eonwe Valar: OK, Arien's turn for a question :}
Eonwe Valar: Aye.
ArPharazonV: That's pretty impressive, considering it wasn't a very peaceful era.
Eonwe Valar: Aye.
AriehnV: Simple question .. but it came to my mind when you said "Everyone is here say Cuivienen" ;-)
AriehnV: What does the name actually mean and why is it called that name?
Eonwe Valar: Waters of Awakening, because that's where the Elves first awoke.
ArPharazonV: Not very original choice of words, is it?
ArPharazonV: Hey, we woke up next to this water, let's call it water of waking up
AriehnV: what else would you have wanted it called
Eonwe Valar: Had to call it something :}
AriehnV: Refreshment ocean?
Eonwe Valar: Then again, maybe it wasn't given that name right on the spot.
AriehnV: where abouts was it actually? where in Middlearth? Did that spot survive the first age?
ArPharazonV: Then again. If it was the first time they called anything anything, it would've been original by default.
Eonwe Valar: True Phar, hehe.
Eonwe Valar: It was on the shores of the Inland see of Helcar
Eonwe Valar: see= sea
ArPharazonV: Right, the sea that was formed after the northern lamp fell?
Eonwe Valar: Aye, Iluin.
AriehnV: so near the Helcaraxe
Eonwe Valar: It *looks* on some makes when comparing that the sea of
Rhun might be a remnant of the sea of Helcar, but I don't recall actual
words saying so off the top of my head, so I wouldn't count that as
more than speculation without better proof.
Eonwe Valar: No, the Helcaraxe was at the joining point between Aman and Endor.
ArPharazonV: Helcar just meant North, I think.
AriehnV: ah right the similarity of the name is a bit confusing
ArPharazonV: So we have a northern lake and a northern ice that aren't actually connected
Eonwe Valar: Helka = ice, icy cold
ArPharazonV: Ahh.
AriehnV: right .. if it had been frozen and the ice that originally
connected both it wouldnt have been there anymore *looks all knowing"
Eonwe Valar: Quenya helka, Sindarin Khelek.
ArPharazonV: So the sea of Helcar was named after the pillar of ice.
AriehnV: cool :-)
AriehnV: so your turn next Phara or Eonwe by his answer
Eonwe Valar: (I presume Sindarin is khelek anyway, since it states helka as Quenya, but then it might just be the root word.
Eonwe Valar: It's Phar's turn.
ArPharazonV: Hmm, looking through the Silm for something suitably trivial.
ArPharazonV: Allright. Something vaguely similar to Arien's topic.
ArPharazonV: Which (celestial) event marked the awakening of men?
Eonwe Valar: Vaguely similar to Arien's topic, or vaguely similar to Arien? ;}
ArPharazonV: *snicker*
AriehnV: The Creation of the Sun and the Moon?
Eonwe Valar: Specifically, the rising of the Sun :}
ArPharazonV: For a bonus, what was special about this event that was pretty much opposite of what we know about the event now?
ArPharazonV: Yes, the first rising of the sun to be exact.
ArPharazonV: Care to take a guess?
Eonwe Valar: Anar rose in the West and set in the East.
ArPharazonV: Correct!
AriehnV: oh wow true i forgot about this
ArPharazonV: Really? You were there!
ArPharazonV: Quite actively if I recall.
GwaihirValar has entered the room.
GwaihirValar: there we go lol...
Eonwe Valar: Heya Gwaihir :}
GwaihirValar: seven invites later...
GwaihirValar: haha
Eonwe Valar: OK, as a last bit of Tolkien news, Gwaihir has something :}
Eonwe Valar: hehe
AriehnV: oh .. been a long time ago ...must have burn out or something ^^
GwaihirValar: hehe
ArPharazonV: Aiya Gwai!
AriehnV: aiya Gwaihir :-)
GwaihirValar: Some of you may know I have a small personal
fantasy/gaming website I write for, but I wanted to share a bit of
relevent news in that Gilraen and I went to the Hobbit yesterday and I've written a review for it
GwaihirValar: http://www.shadowedblade.net/2012/12/the-hobbit-not-so-unexpected/
Eonwe Valar: Thanks :}
Eonwe Valar: And with that,...
Eonwe Valar: *Bangs gavel*
top
Eonwe Valar: Aftermeeting :}
Eonwe Valar: Continue chat, read Gwaihir's review, check out the new
stuff on the Games Site, whatever you need/want/have time to do :}
ArPharazonV: Reading the review right now. Despite not having seen the movie. Luckily I always love spoilers ;-)
GwaihirValar: I tried to avoid any major spoilers
GwaihirValar: In fact, I always try to avoid much in the way of spoilers in my writing
ArPharazonV: There's a few minor ones which were unavoidable.
GwaihirValar: ya, you can't write an opinion of something with any details without SOME spoilers
ArPharazonV: Like Azog and Radagast.
ArPharazonV: Not complaining, mind you.
GwaihirValar: but... I think it's important to try to keep them being serious things
AriehnV: a really well written review and i love it :-)
GwaihirValar: Thank you :-)
ArPharazonV: Yes, I agree. It's a good review.
GwaihirValar: I appreciate it... I'm not all that good at writing movie reviews, so I'm glad you liked it. :-)
GwaihirValar: I find it much much easier to write about games than movies or tv shows
GwaihirValar: hehe
ArPharazonV: Well I'm not good at reading reviews, so that's fine with me ;-)
AriehnV: and I love the formulation of "It is a movie version of Peter Jackson's interpretation of "The Hobbit"
AriehnV: concise informative and nice game of words .. the kind of thing i always find intriguing :-)
GwaihirValar: Well, if you liked it there are another 200-something
articles I've written, so feel free to spend more time there ;-)
ArPharazonV: Your last paragraph before "Overall" has me intrigued.
ArPharazonV: He wasn't actually *in* the story, was he? Because that's just.. chronologically insane.
GwaihirValar: No
GwaihirValar: As an introductory scene
ArPharazonV: Ah, good.
GwaihirValar: they have Bilbo writing the book in the 'future' just prior to the start of LotR
GwaihirValar: and it's an interesting scene, until they bring in the obligatory Elijah Wood 5 minute scene with no purpose
ArPharazonV: Well, I don't know. I recall The Hobbit, both versions of
it (both book-versions that is) having some significance with
storytelling to Frodo and Gandalf.
ArPharazonV: Like Bilbo telling the first edition version to Frodo and then Frodo dragging the second edition out of him?
GwaihirValar: and that's the core of the first part of the scene, Bilbo
saying 'I told you the truth... but not all of the truth' sort of thing
GwaihirValar: then after that it goes to Frodo going and checking the mail
GwaihirValar: and then going off to wait for Gandalf
ArPharazonV: Ah.
ArPharazonV: So it's supposed to take place right before LotR?
GwaihirValar: ya the introductory scene
ArPharazonV: Interesting way of bridging the gap.
GwaihirValar: Ya, the first half of the scene was, the second half was
just... I dunno, it felt really out of place to me. But make your own
judgement when you eventually see it ;-)
ArPharazonV: Will do :-)
AriehnV: interesting site that .. i ve added it to my favourites :-)
GwaihirValar: Aww thank you :-)
AriehnV: writing good reviews is an art as well , Gwai :-) take that as a compliment who knocks together stories and poems :-D
GwaihirValar: hehe it is definitely a challenge :-)
AriehnV: can imagine
ArPharazonV: Oh, by the way, new
production video up on PJ's facebook. Haven't taken the time yet to
watch it myself, so I'm not sure what it'll contain, but the link's http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10151375756696807
AriehnV: thanks :-)
AriehnV: i got to levl 2/2 btw in that sprite game .. my reaction is just not fast anymore to get further ^^
ArPharazonV: I've struggled for a bit at points, getting a few levels
further every day. I think I'm now at 3/6 or something, and I just
can't get past it yet.
ArPharazonV: Take some rest, try again another time :-)
AriehnV: aye will do :-)
AriehnV: just wanting to bring this tiny mage to Splintertree Post ^^
AriehnV: then bed
ArPharazonV: Well, I just meant a rest from the game, not that you had to go to bed ;-) that's your choice
AriehnV: hihi i know i know
AriehnV: but its that way , the belf area is a bit far away from
Ashenvale .. but its a nice place to quest and grind wool same time
*shrugs* so thats definitely the next station
ArPharazonV: Aren't bloodelves supposed to go to Hillsbrad?
AriehnV: maybe :-) , but i had to stop of in Orgrimmar anyway *grin*
AriehnV: dont like the Undead area particularly altho lorewise it would make more sense
AriehnV: Namarie for now :-)
AriehnV has left the room.
Iryenth has left the room.
ArPharazonV: saving and sending transcript
