Before-meeting:
You have just entered room "valarguildmeetingplace."
ArPharazonV: Aiya
VardaValar1: Aiya Phar :-)
ArPharazonV: Enjoying the Blizzard April Fools jokes?
VardaValar1: I haven't been there yet, but plan to. Is it just on their site?
ArPharazonV: There's several. I suggest you try the news on the general Blizzard portal thing.
VardaValar1: You betcha :-)
ArPharazonV: http://us.blizzard.com/en-us/ for you
ArPharazonV: the 4 latest news pieces
VardaValar1: Thanks :-)
VardaValar1: That should be perfect during the WoW news.
VardaValar1: Do you show it as time for the meeting to start?
ArPharazonV: No, still got an hour.
ArPharazonV: But finished raiding early (Deathwing simply doesn't wipe
us as much anymore as he used to) so thought I'd pop in. Better early
than l ate.
ArPharazonV: *late
VardaValar1: hahaha - must've double compensated. Thanks!
VardaValar1: Aye, and then we can swap April Fool's stories. ^^
ArPharazonV: Heh.
ArPharazonV: I must admit, though, through my internet routines I haven't found much April Fools stuff so far. Just Blizzard.
ArPharazonV: Is it too much to hope that people are finally getting tired of it?
VardaValar1: One wishes :-)
AriehnV has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya Arien :-)
VardaValar1: She mentioned grabbing a bite to eat before the meeting starts. A good plan.
AriehnV: back here
VardaValar1: Welcome back :-)
AriehnV: did you see my rp post?
ArPharazonV: Aiya
AriehnV: aiya Phara :-)
Eonwe Valar has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: Heya.
fladrifv has entered the room.
ArPharazonV: Aiya
Glorfindel VG has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya :-)
Eonwe Valar: Heya.
VardaValar1: Wow, Arien posted to the Name Game on the forum! I nearly forgot we had that.
VardaValar1: Arien, seem to be two posts after the last post of yours that I can see on the RP? [note: Varda should have been looking on page 2, not page 1, oops.]
top
VardaValar1: Elen sila lumenn' omentielvo! :-)
VardaValar1: Membership:
VardaValar1: We are all moving to a Dragonlance theme, and we have a suggestion that the kin move to either EQ or Pong. [note: slip of the keyboard, meant to say overall guild instead of kin.]
AriehnV: ah rigfht have to check
VardaValar1: All in favor of the Dragonlance instead of Tolkien theme, say Aye. Against say Nay.
AriehnV: i have to see it
ArPharazonV: Either I missed something, or this is one weird April Fools, because I'm not sure I understand it completely.
VardaValar1: sooo, abstain counts as agreement to change from Tolkien theme to Dragonlance for the overall guild, right?
ArPharazonV: Ah, you want to change both the overall guild and the kin to different themes?
Eonwe Valar: Pong would be better, ol.
Eonwe Valar: *lol
ArPharazonV: I mean, if you move the kin to EQ, would it not make sense to move the overall guild to EQ too?
VardaValar1: Pong, one vote.
VardaValar1: The overall guild should all leave WoW, LotRO, etc and move to Pong,. Got it.
AriehnV: pardon me we are a Tolkien guild
VardaValar1: Not if we vote to change to a Dragonlance guild. ^^
ArPharazonV: Pong sounds good, then.
AriehnV: i know nothing of Dragonlance so i wont make the move with ye
AriehnV: pong i say
AriehnV: maybe even ping
ArPharazonV: Are you taking alternatives over Dragonlance? Like Discworld?
VardaValar1: Pong, 2 votes.
ArPharazonV: I'll vote for pong.
VardaValar1: Eru wanted Dragonlance.
ArPharazonV: Ah. Can't argue with Him, now can we?
VardaValar1: Well, actually... Yes I can. :-)
VardaValar1: I can argue with a fencepost.
VardaValar1: Ok, so we have one vote for Dragonlance, 1 for Tolkien, 1 for Discworld.
VardaValar1: So, we should face 2012's Brave New World as Pongers with a Dragonlance, Tolkien, Discworld theme?
Eonwe Valar: Why not a Pong theme?
VardaValar1: So a Pong game group rp'ing as Pong folk?
ArPharazonV: Sounds interesting.
Eonwe Valar: Would Valar honor become the paddles or the ball?
VardaValar1: The Pong Encyclopedia.
ArPharazonV: What names would we use?
VardaValar1: Pong 1, Pong 2...?
VardaValar1: Pong Honor for all!
ArPharazonV: I'll become Left Paddle 7.
VardaValar1: There you go.
VardaValar1: Now that that's settled...
VardaValar1: Happy April Fool's day. :-)
top
VardaValar1: Web:
VardaValar1: No pong articles or stories were in my Pongbox this week.
top
VardaValar1: Gaming:
VardaValar1: How many played Pong this last week?
VardaValar1: Me neither.
ArPharazonV: Just today.
VardaValar1: Really? :-)
ArPharazonV: As mandatory for the guild.
ArPharazonV: No, not really.
Eonwe Valar: Does verbal Pong count? After all, there was a bit of back-and-forth there.
VardaValar1: No flashgame Pong for us. Doomed, doomed I tell you.
VardaValar1: We could make it so.
ArPharazonV: No. I've seen a lot of flashgames, some new one this week,
but I don't remember a pong one. If I did, I usually don't bother with
them.
ArPharazonV: I mean, it's Pong. How much variation can you get in that?
ArPharazonV: *new ones
VardaValar1: With such weak attendance for our Pong group, I move we go back to our regularly scheduled gaming.
Eonwe Valar: 3D Pong might be interesting, hehe.
VardaValar1: Actually, there was a bit of variation. It varied itself into WoW and LotRO even. : )
VardaValar1: I think that's called Ping-pong?
VardaValar1: Any seconds?
ArPharazonV: So.. a theory that all games ultimately developed from Pong?
VardaValar1: I wouldn't call it anything so strong as theory, but we could shoot for hypothesis?
ArPharazonV: Sure, why not.
VardaValar1: So you're seconding going back to our usual games?
Eonwe Valar: I guess we have to if we can't even find a decent version of Pong.
VardaValar1: (Today's pretend misunderstandings shall reverberate through the Field of Pong.)
ArPharazonV: I'm sure I could find something.
Eonwe Valar: WoW and LotRO will have to do.
VardaValar1: Guess so.
ArPharazonV: http://www.onemorelevel.com/game/pong here you go
VardaValar1: lol - way to go, Phar!
VardaValar1: The EQ joke was from Maedhros in LotRO, by the way.
VardaValar1: I am too lazy to switch from a Tolkien to the much more
difficult Pong Encyclopedia, so we're stuck with the Tolkien overall
them.
VardaValar1: *theme
VardaValar1: Phar, you had something to mention about WoW?
ArPharazonV: Oh! Yes. Well, Blizzard in general.
ArPharazonV: As you might know, Blizzard is infamous in its April Fools
jokes, usually the highlight of my day, this one day in the year.
ArPharazonV: The different jokes vary between the European and US site,
but I think the US site might have all of them. I'm sure links can be
found if you look, I'll start simply by listing them.
ArPharazonV: How many of you remember the Tamagotchi?
ArPharazonV: A small electronic pet on a device you take with you, that
you have to take care for in real life, and if not it'll annoy you with
sounds and eventually die?
Eonwe Valar: I remember it.
AriehnV: Tamagotchi yes i remember it
AriehnV: so old =-O
ArPharazonV: Well, Blizzard has combined it with the Blizzard
Authenticator, as a Zergotchi, a little zerg creature you need to take
care of, which will serve as an authenticator to your Blizzard accounts.
VardaValar1: hehehee
ArPharazonV: Malnourish it, and it will only give partial
authentification codes. Let it die, and... I don't even want to think
about what that would mean for your games :-)
AriehnV: och cute :-D
Eonwe Valar: hehe
AriehnV: nice one
ArPharazonV: http://eu.blizzard.com/en-gb/games/zergotchi/
AriehnV: and the sounds .. the various bosses voicing their catchphrases at portalling and hssstoning
AriehnV: quite cute
Eonwe Valar: The US site has a new line of learning games for kids.
ArPharazonV: If you click on the buy now link, to the store, you'll find that it's sold out, and a related link to the http://eu.blizzard.com/store/details.xml?id=221003857 Battle.Net Neural Interface.
AriehnV: hehe
ArPharazonV: Which was an april fool's joke from a few years back :-)
ArPharazonV: Actually, Arien, about the bosses and their catchphrases, I don't think it's Blizzard.
ArPharazonV: Do you use the DBM bossmods addon?
AriehnV: aye
ArPharazonV: Someone linked me a piece of code there which activates on April 1 which is responsible for those catchphrases.
AriehnV: is that dbms idea then?
ArPharazonV: Yes. It comes directly from the addon.
AriehnV: i see ^^
AriehnV: then i have to delete and reinstall it
AriehnV: ok cheers :-)
ArPharazonV: They were also the ones responsible for the Old God voices you used to get when you found an archeology keystone.
ArPharazonV: No, no need. It'll pass, no doubt, after today.
ArPharazonV: It was just a joke.
AriehnV: was quite funny actually
ArPharazonV: Let's see. Eonwe mentioned the Blizzard line of games for children, educational, each of which is worth seeing.
ArPharazonV: http://us.blizzard.com/en-us/games/blizzkidzz/
VardaValar1 has left the room.
ArPharazonV: Even contains a working demo.
VardaValar1 has entered the room.
VardaValar1: oops
Eonwe Valar: And there's AIM's practical joke for the day, hehe.
VardaValar1: actually my finger hitting the wrong thing at the wrong
time due to multiple open windows and not being careful. heh
Eonwe Valar: Ah, ok :}
VardaValar1: April Finger
ArPharazonV: http://us.blizzard.com/en-us/news/?d=2012-4#312334 and there's the blizzard novels
ArPharazonV: A new line of novels aimed at a younger audience which take place in the Blizzard game universes.
ArPharazonV: Make sure to read the descriptions!
VardaValar1: I keep hoping Panda characters are an April fool's joke.
ArPharazonV: They were, originally ;-)
VardaValar1: I'd like to try the stag people for a race. Looks as if they might have thought about it from the variety
ArPharazonV: And lastly the Supply Depot. A new game by Blizzard, where
you have to raise or lower a supply depot to make it through the
levels. Also includes a working demo.
Eonwe Valar: Actually, the first Pandaren appeared in the WC3 expansion :}
ArPharazonV: The first Pandaren appeared as an april fool's joke on the WC3 site, and where then implemented in the expansion.
ArPharazonV: *were
ArPharazonV: http://us.blizzard.com/en-us/games/supplydepot/
ArPharazonV: http://www.wowpedia.org/History_of_pandaren_in_Warcraft for pandaren
Eonwe Valar has left the room.
VardaValar1: Indis says hi from her cell phone.
ArPharazonV: Hi!
ArPharazonV: Anyway, that's the last of the Blizzard april fools jokes that I've seen.
VardaValar1: Thanks, nice collection!
VardaValar1: In further WoW news, we have a low number of folks home
for tonight's run, but we can at least show up with who we have after
the meeting. : )
AriehnV: Eonwe crashed
Eonwe Valar has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aye, and is back
Eonwe Valar: Am I back now? What di dI miss?
VardaValar1: Did you get the April finger too?
Eonwe Valar: *did I
VardaValar1: I gave your WoW report :-)
Eonwe Valar: No, I got disconnected the old-fashioned way, hehe.
VardaValar1: We mostly have been missing each other in the WoW runs.
VardaValar1: At my house, the new internet caused surging issues in WoW so we're not safe in an instance run.
ArPharazonV: Last thing before you left, Eonwe, was the Pandaren link.
Eonwe Valar: I wanted to tell everyone they should visit their respective community site to see and click on Crabby, hehe.
ArPharazonV: Crabby's back?
VardaValar1: Tuesday we're switching back to our old internet, which they upgraded for us.
VardaValar1: o fun, thanks Eonwe. :-)
Eonwe Valar: Yes, Crabby's back :}
VardaValar1: So if we disappear, you'll know we're working on it. :-)
ArPharazonV: Can't find him.
Eonwe Valar: I hope this works out much better for you, Varda :}
Eonwe Valar: OK, he's on the US COmmunity Site at least.
VardaValar1: Thanks, Eonwe. : )
ArPharazonV: Ah, yes, there he is.
ArPharazonV: On the US site.
ArPharazonV: with hats?
Eonwe Valar: Aye, and dialogue, like any good helper crab.
Eonwe Valar: Pardon, didn't mean to overrun Varda's internet woes with a ghost crab.
VardaValar1: I was done. :-) And I expect we'll be in great shape after Tuesday!
VardaValar1: If not, the Helper Crab shall see to fixing it.
Eonwe Valar: I had nothing else to add about Crabby, btw :}
VardaValar1: Thanks :-)
VardaValar1: In LotRO:
VardaValar1: We have been running together to get people through the Limlight Gorge precursor quests, and doing those dailies.
VardaValar1: Saturday we beat Draigoch again, so we proved it was no fluke that we can take him down. : )
VardaValar1: Any other gaming this week? Pong? Other?
AriehnV: Maedhros helped me a bit ago with a skirmish with my burglar
who is respectable 61 now and of i have to mention Maha who slapped her
on the back to get a foothold in Lothlorien
MLP:
ArPharazonV: Well, I could inform you about a certain category of games
I've been tracking progression of over the last few months; 2 were
added to the list this week and 1 previous one announced its first
release date... but due to the nature of these games I think today
might not be a good day to elaborate for lack of credibility to my
story.
AriehnV: ^^ that bad?
ArPharazonV: In other words, I could tell you, but you probably
wouldn't believe me, so might best be kept until next week, though I
could tell you if you want *shrug*
VardaValar1: *tries to imagine why we wouldn't believe you except that it's April Fool's day*
ArPharazonV: Mostly because they're fangames of all sorts based on a
certain tv show I've gained an interest in, and produced by a very
creative fan-community which has slowly be taking over the internet in
the last year or so.
ArPharazonV: And yes, that would be the reason why you might not believe me.
ArPharazonV: And if you're well-travelled on the internet in the past
year or so you might know exactly which show I'm talking about.
ArPharazonV: In any case, many of these fangames are of such quality
that they could easily be professionally made and sold, but due to
copyright issues and simple love for the community they're all turning
out free of charge. And the ones I'm tracking, will probably take up a
lot of gaming time in my future. Most are also multiplayer, so that's
why I thought it relevant to put here, in case people were interested.
ArPharazonV: There's 2 MMOs, a fighting game, a karting game, and an Ace Attorney-based investigations-game.
ArPharazonV: Note, it's *based* on the gaming series Ace Attorney.
That's not the name of the show. The game is just based on the gameplay
of AA.
ArPharazonV: The theme and story is based on the tv show, which is... My Little Pony.
ArPharazonV: *prepares for backlash*
VardaValar1: Yay!
VardaValar1: You can probably get Maedhros and Pippin in on it pretty fast. : )
ArPharazonV: Oh?
VardaValar1: You should read Maedhros' blog sometime. :-) He's the Gneech, click it from the Membership page.
VardaValar1: Be sure to make channel Valar if you're in any MMO and definitely My Little Pony. :-)
ArPharazonV: Oh, will do that, if it allows.
VardaValar1: Most games do eventually. : )
ArPharazonV: Anyway, MLP. I've been keeping the fact that I'm a fan
rather a secret, because of the reputation of the previous generations.
This is generation 4, called Friendship is Magic, started in 2010.
VardaValar1: Thanks Phar. Feel free to post url's on it.
ArPharazonV: Been a fan since.. August, now. Not just of the show, but
also of its community, which has been rather productive when it comes
to fan-music, fan-art, fan-videos and yes, fan-games.
VardaValar1: Quick backing up to WoW for a bit of news just now learned.
ArPharazonV: The show itself is no longer tailored solely to children,
especially little girls, but was also designed to keep their parents
interested; there's a lot of varying and interesting character
interaction going on, smooth if simple animation (made in Flash, even)
and entertaining humor and cultural references, especially the second
season has clearly made a lot of signals to its own adult fancommunity,
collectively known as "bronies".
ArPharazonV: Allright.
VardaValar1: In the WoW Lothar group, we hit guild level 17. We now have the perk of instant posts to all guild memebers. End flashback. : )
VardaValar1: ohh, nice to know what Brony means. I've seen it and not known what it referred to.
ArPharazonV: Commonly thought to be a contraction of "bro" and "pony"
but apparently it also refers to a 4chan board where the
internet-phenomenon really kicked off.
ArPharazonV: In any case, I've been looking at a bunch of games based
on the show, and if you're interested in the show, or just happy
variations of genres you like, I can give you links for them. I'll also
be announcing more about them in the future when release dates etc are
announced.
ArPharazonV: Looking at some of these links today, I can already tell
they're really making good use of April Fools *sigh* I can already see
a takedown notice and an announcement about paid content.
VardaValar1: Sure. If you're in a game, let us know where to join you. Free games especially!
ArPharazonV: Want any links, or wait until they're closer to release date?
VardaValar1: Believe nothing you see today, and be cautious of left-overs tomorrow.
ArPharazonV: Aye.
VardaValar1: Toss us one to whet the appetite? : )
ArPharazonV: Let's start with the MMO then. There's actually 2, but one
recently split up because of management issues and the bulk of it (as
in, 99% of the team, and all the produced work) has gone to a new name
and website, with not much outward shown for it yet, since then.
ArPharazonV: The other one announced a release date for its single
player mode this week, which will be in July. Find it at
http://www.mlponline.net/
VardaValar1: The money may not have traveled with them.
ArPharazonV: Perhaps not. But they seem to be doing well, and because
it's a non-profit game, most of it is volunteer work anyway, especially
with most of the groundwork already in place.
VardaValar1: Nice
ArPharazonV: I've got good confidence that they'll succeed, or if they fail, it won't be because of this.
ArPharazonV: If you want more links:
VardaValar1: go for it.
ArPharazonV: http://www.mane6.com/
is the homepage of a fighting game, which has become perhaps the most
awaited game in the fanbase, called Fighting is Magic. The game is a
sort of streetfighter game, which is already well in progression, with
a bunch of gameplay videos, character demonstrations, and original
music inspired by the songs from the show.
ArPharazonV: http://www.legendsofequestria.com/
is the other MMO I mentioned, previously known as Equestria Online,
which has recently adopted the new name and website. While the previous
MMO was, graphically, more reminiscent of the Diablo series and the
Final Fantasy series, this one is a 3D MMO like WoW or LotRO.
ArPharazonV: Leafing through their forum right now, they're planning a
massive 24-hour production event, live-streamed, on april 14.
ArPharazonV: Next game! http://ponykart.net/
A karting game, rather like Mario kart, so it seems. Seems simple in
idea, but the music tracks and graphics in the gameplay videos are of
amazing quality, in my opinion.
ArPharazonV: And last, but not least, http://www.equestriandreamers.com/
home to My Little Investigations, the gameplay of which is based on the
Ace Attorney game series, like I said. Of less interest here perhaps
because it's singleplayer, but people might be interested. Custom-built
game engine was developed over the last half a year or so, and now the
"cases"/quests/modules are really starting to progress.
ArPharazonV: Will also include an editor where you can make your own
cases and share them with your friends, and I expect there to be a
large database of fan-made cases after the game is released.
ArPharazonV: So, any comments?
ArPharazonV: Anything that looks interesting?
VardaValar1: Actually, the single-player might be where I'd start. But it sounds like it could be fun.
ArPharazonV: Oh, when I said "previous MMO" I meant the MLP Online game I'd linked earlier, not the old Equestria Online game.
VardaValar1: Thanks for making that clear. : )
VardaValar1: We need to move on to the Tolkien section before we all run out of time. We can give it maybe half an hour.
VardaValar1: Tolkien:
ArPharazonV: To make it more clear, none of these are finished. Most
don't even have a release date. But they all look very promising.
ArPharazonV: Allright, go ahead :-)
top
Tolkien:
VardaValar1: On the rp, Eonwe has some rough ideas for the next part that we can try to help flesh out. Maybe even make some posts.
VardaValar1: Eonwe, go ahead.
fladrifv has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: I'll be picking up Elrond's posting, since Auros isn't doing anything of significance at the point in the story.
Eonwe Valar: My basic idea for Elrond's next part is the obvious
procession of explanation of what we've been through. Do we need to go
through each explnanation idividually (I don't think so) or should I
just write that Elrond is listening to everyone and then move on?
ArPharazonV: I trust you will be consistent with Varda's peformance of him so far *nod*
Eonwe Valar: *individually
VardaValar1: We don't need to go through it all in detail again, no. He can mull over our reports as if we already said them.
AriehnV: hehe i loved the scene of Elrond balancing on the ladder and falling nearly off when Legolas comes in
AriehnV: that really made me laugh
VardaValar1: Thanks :-)
VardaValar1: He may need to regain his dignity a bit. : )
Eonwe Valar: Heh, I may have Elrond's importance to this part of the story wrapped up in one post.
Eonwe Valar: When I have it properly formulated.
ArPharazonV: Sounds like a proper challenge for your skills.
ArPharazonV: Oh, by the way, grats on lvl 17.
ArPharazonV: We're about 40% towards 16, I think.
VardaValar1: VardaValar1: That would be possible. We may have some who want a little individual interaction after your post.
VardaValar1: Thanks Phar :-)
Eonwe Valar: Individual interaction ought to be fine.
Eonwe Valar: I doubt we'll be rehashing old story, so sounds like a chance to show characters'.... character.
VardaValar1: Aye. I like that Frali got such a good character moment in the last post. : )
Eonwe Valar: Any other comments?
Eonwe Valar has left the room.
Eonwe Valar has left the room.
VardaValar1: A rough night on the internet.
Eonwe Valar has left the room.
ArPharazonV: So it seems.
Eonwe Valar has left the room.
Eonwe Valar has left the room.
Eonwe Valar has left the room.
Eonwe Valar has left the room.
Eonwe Valar has left the room.
VardaValar1: in side windows, Elrond will do his post and ask if there are questions, giving Meren her opening.
ArPharazonV: Allright.
Eonwe Valar has left the room.
Eonwe Valar has left the room.
VardaValar1: EonweValar: The only thing I have to add for the Meeting
channel right now is that I will endeavour, as always, to represent
Elrond properly.
VardaValar1: He's relogging, trying to get back in.
ArPharazonV: Does that mean he won't be building on your post? :-)
Eonwe Valar has left the room.
VardaValar1: EonweValar: OK, looks like I won't be getting back into the Meeting channel, so moving into WoW.
Eonwe Valar has left the room.
ArPharazonV: That's not good.
VardaValar1: Gang, I'm going to call it here. Feel free to check in for
Eonwe's posting and respond as you can. during the week. : )
VardaValar1: *swings gavel overhead*
VardaValar1: *whomp!*
ArPharazonV: *pulls back fingers just in time*
top
VardaValar1: After-meeting!
VardaValar1: Have a happy April 1st! and the rest of the week!
VardaValar1: Namarie for now. : )
ArPharazonV: Namarie, have fun with WoW :-)
VardaValar1: Don't take any wooden pandas.
VardaValar1 has left the room.
ArPharazonV: Whoops, for mention in the transcript: Darkmoon Faire has started again. Get your tokens and marks and pets and mounts!
AriehnV: yup i handed in some weapons and a thingy from a bg and stuff i picked up and got my self a nice colourful baloon :-)
ArPharazonV: Ah, great :-) I'm aiming for the second mount this time.
AriehnV: nice , have you got the dancing bear yet?
ArPharazonV: Yep, got that last time. Now I should be able to get the bird.
AriehnV: oh right yes our gnome mages cursed mechanostider *gg* thats what she sais in rp hehe
ArPharazonV: Heh.
AriehnV: a bad case of *curse of flesh"
ArPharazonV: Ah, right.
Glorfindel VG has left the room.
Eonwe Valar has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: Hey, I managed to get back in.
ArPharazonV: Aiyata :-)
ArPharazonV: Well, to repeat from when neither you nor Varda were still
in, Darkmoon Faire has started, so get on it if you still want stuff :-)
Iryenth has entered the room.
Iryenth: Aiya all
Eonwe Valar: Heya Gilraen :}
ArPharazonV: Aiya
Iryenth has left the room.
ArPharazonV: saving and sending transcript
AriehnV has left the room.
