VardaValar1: Web News:
VardaValar1: Firiel-(T) has been sending us her poetry and a Quenya composition including the English version.
VardaValar1: "Firiel"
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/poetry/Firiel.htm
VardaValar1: "Firiel's Tombstone Inscription":
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/poetry/FirielsTombstone.htm
VardaValar1: (We also have humorous tombstone inscriptions for the Humor Page, if you folks would like to send such a goody in.)
VardaValar1: "The Winning of Luthien"
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/poetry/TheWinningofLuthien.htm

VardaValar1: The short Quenya composition (short is still a lot of work if you've tried it!) is "The Leaguer of Angband"
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/lang/tranQ/translations/translQIAngamando.htm
VardaValar1: Any of these could give food for a Tolkien discussion too.

VardaValar1: Also under Web, enjoy Galdor's recipes in the forum if you haven't already, and feel free to share your own real life food recipes.
VardaValar1: Any other Web news?

VardaValar1: Gaming:
VardaValar1: Any gaming this past week not on LotRO or WoW?
VardaValar1: WarHammer for Sauron-(Valar), mostly single-player.
ArPharazonV: Few flashgames, including Achievement Unlocked 2 on Armorgames, as well as a bit of Touhou
galdorandwe: My Burg, Andwegar hit lvl 65 this week :-)
VardaValar1: That's the level cap in LotRO. Grats, Galdor. :-)
Glorfindel VG: The playstation network is back up and running! that's news, right?
galdorandwe: oh..sorry, glasses on now...saw the non-LoTRO thing...sorry
ArPharazonV: Actually managed to finish a Touhou (7.5, on easy), even though it was just for one character... so I see it as progress.
VardaValar1: Sounds like progress. :-)
VardaValar1: StarCraft 2 has been ongoing for Bilbo.

VardaValar1: LotRO:
VardaValar1: Galdor's burg hit level 65. :-)
Glorfindel VG: Congrats
VardaValar1: Monday we ran the Skumfil Moria instance left side several times for deeding, a little questing, incidentally taking out the spider boss Brumbereth a few times just because she was there.
ArPharazonV: Grats :-)
VardaValar1: Wednesday we ran Grand Stairs all the way through, smooth and fast.
VardaValar1: Lots of fun stuff going on daily.
VardaValar1: Monday morning maintenance for LotRO.
galdorandwe: Nimrodel, Gildor, Pippen, Melkor, varda, Gorlim and I have been running Grand Stairs a lot lately in various combinations...our newest toons need Moria armour.
VardaValar1: We are learning the various classes too, so we can play together better.
galdorandwe: It's amazing how different we play the various classes.
galdorandwe: Any ideas about the new instances coming tomorrow?
VardaValar1: They have some info on them online. I haven't dug into it yet, sadly.
VardaValar1: Did you take a look?
VardaValar1: (LotRO will be down in the morning to add these new 3-mans and skirmish.)
galdorandwe: Briefly...there is reported to be a change with respect to turning in rep items as well. Something about Mathoms starting at lvl 35...not clear on that one.
VardaValar1: Maybe we'd better turn in our mathoms fast on the younger characters then.

VardaValar1: Moving on to WoW:
VardaValar1: Eonwe, you had a report?
Eonwe Valar: Aye.
Eonwe Valar: Sunday:
Eonwe Valar: Participants: Eonwe, Eowyn, Varda, Fangorn, Bilbo.
Eonwe Valar: We went through Ahn'Qiraj 40, then through Molten Core. Afterwards, I called it a night and the rest of the group went through Karazhan.
AriehnV: Through the Fire and The Flames we carry on ^^
VardaValar1: :-)
VardaValar1: And we completed Karazhan.
Eonwe Valar: Monday, Eonwe, Fangorn, Elwing, Varda, Bilbo, and Sauron took an impromput shot at Icecrown Citadel, and from that decided to make that our goal this Sunday.
AriehnV: Funny how we went through the same instances with the Lorekeepers including Maggie's Lair as well and excluding An Quiraj , grin
Eonwe Valar: *impromptu
AriehnV: good luck with that :-)
Glorfindel VG: To battle the Lich King himself =-O ?
Eonwe Valar: I'm afraid I have no Friday news, as no one was on who could stay long enough to run anything while I was on.
AriehnV: my drood sneaked to 64 and ready to go to Nagrand now .. i ll log on after the meating
Eonwe Valar: Ah, Glorfindel, we will try to make it that far :}
Eonwe Valar: Ah = Aye
Eonwe Valar: I'm not sure that we will on the first go, but it's the journey, not the destination :}
Glorfindel VG: I'll soon be able to join you, I think
VardaValar1: You're leveling at high speed!
Glorfindel VG: I'm now in Northrend anyway
VardaValar1: Don't miss too much of the crazy world of WoW out there on your race to the top.
Glorfindel VG: That's good advice :-)
Eonwe Valar: Pardon, my report is complete.
VardaValar1: Thank you, Eonwe. :-)
VardaValar1: Any further comment, suggestions, discussion?

VardaValar1: Fladrif? : )
ArPharazonV: *grin*
Fladrifv: uhm hoom boom
Fladrifv: my name was called?
VardaValar1: Aye. :-)
VardaValar1: Have you anything to add before the change from business to Tolkien?
Fladrifv: well eh other gaming
Fladrifv: if I can
Fladrifv: just short
VardaValar1: Ok, what've you been slaughtering?
VardaValar1: Short? What is this?
AriehnV: ten k years ?
VardaValar1: About that, likely.
Fladrifv: I joined a developer goupe to make the next generation second life
VardaValar1: Now that sounds major.
Fladrifv: so it will be a new platform programmed from scratch
VardaValar1: Will they be addressing the problem of adult and younger areas?
Fladrifv: including unlimited world size non server based and so on
VardaValar1: Non-server?
Fladrifv: that is the aim
VardaValar1: What is it based on?
Fladrifv: but bit early to give details
VardaValar1: Ok
Glorfindel VG: Ah, Second Life.. We addressed that game in sociology class :-P
VardaValar1: Sounds intriguing.
VardaValar1: I need to get back in there.
ArPharazonV: So this'll be Third Life, then? :-)
Fladrifv: hehe yes
Fladrifv: that was my small contribution
VardaValar1: Small, heh.
VardaValar1: Thank you, very interesting!
ArPharazonV: Small step for Ent...
VardaValar1: Glorfindel, can you tell us anything about what your class said about Second Life?
Glorfindel VG: Well, this was a couple years ago btw.. But I belief we just discussed the sociological and psychological implications of living in a non-reality "second life"
Glorfindel VG: I just recalled the game when he mentioned it
VardaValar1: It's an interesting thought. We do it all the time in MMO's. All of us here play them.
karakedi25 has entered the room.
Glorfindel VG: Yep, we do :-)
galdorandwe: Aiya Indis
karakedi25: Hi--just in to say I hae to go do a family thing, but will try to get in on the phone and reach Varda to stay in touch.
karakedi25: *have
VardaValar1: Aiya Indis
karakedi25: people are waiting for me, so have to leave now :-(
VardaValar1: Not much point in that. You should go ahead and give your family your attention.
ArPharazonV: Have fun!
VardaValar1: Enjoy
karakedi25: wouldn't want to miss discussion of the RP
karakedi25: I've contributed
Glorfindel VG: If 2nd Life can is anywhere as cool as wow, count me in
karakedi25: namarie for now
karakedi25 has left the room.

VardaValar1: Tolkien!
VardaValar1: Before Indis commented on the rp, I had wanted at least a short chat on the journey through Middle-earth that we read of.
VardaValar1: The setting seemed like another character and also a place to which people kept wanting to return.
VardaValar1: The mythology inherent in the place, in its creation and continuation can be visible all over.
VardaValar1: Earth is called Morgoth's Ring because he put so much of himself into it.
VardaValar1: The Valar worked to make it show the vision of Eru that so fascinated them.
VardaValar1: The Firstborn were supposed to add beauty, and the Secondborn were supposed to inherit it for a time at least.
AriehnV has left the room.
VardaValar1: Hobbits, being part of the Secondborn, would be included there.
VardaValar1: Looking around at Middle-earth in your mind, what do you see there that seems influenced by the mythology, that you could walk into?
AriehnV has entered the room.
AriehnV: can you repeat the topic again Varda ?
AriehnV: i booted myself out ^^
VardaValar1: copy pasting:
VardaValar1: Looking around at Middle-earth in your mind, what do you see there that seems influenced by the mythology, that you could walk into?
galdorandwe: I seem to recall reading somehting about the formation of everything and music being involved...perhaps the natural surroundings would be one thing...each Vala having contributed their own part....and the association to each one...does that fit your topic?
AriehnV: things that appear in middleearth that could exist here in our so-called reality?
ArPharazonV: Trying to make sense of the topic, but failing so far. Could you give an example?
VardaValar1: Lothlorien.
ArPharazonV: So we're looking for things in Middle-Earth that show the influence of the Valar and Morgoth..?
VardaValar1: Walking around in Middle-earth, would you be able to see anything that seemed to be affected by the mythology?
VardaValar1: Not just them.
VardaValar1: What in Middle-earth seems different from mundane earth?
ArPharazonV: Well, it started out flat ;-)
galdorandwe: Enchanted forests for sure...The Old Forest, Fangorn, Lothlorien...Mirkwood to a degree...especially the enchanted stream.
VardaValar1: Kind of like if you were making a Second Life Middle-earth place, what would look different?
VardaValar1: Aye, good thoughts there.
galdorandwe: Beorn being a shape-shifter ...
galdorandwe: You don't see that everyday :-)
VardaValar1: True. : )
VardaValar1: Eagles so big they can be ridden if they allow it.
ArPharazonV: Well, the mountains of Mordor have an unnatural shape, a rectangle that looks like it's been built by Valar/Maiar instead of evolving naturally.
galdorandwe: The Arkenstone...it's the "Heart of Erebor"...makes you wonder if each mountain in ME has an analogous stone buried in it.
VardaValar1: Intriguing. : )
Eonwe Valar has left the room.
Eonwe Valar has entered the room.
AriehnV: ents and Huorns
ArPharazonV: Elves and Dwarves and Dragons while we're at it :-)
VardaValar1: The Shire with its hobbit houses built into the hills would be a fascinating place to see.
VardaValar1: Mirkwood with its shadowy forest.
AriehnV: aye but you find those in other Mythologies as well , the hobbits certainly are quite unique :-)
AriehnV: although i know for sure that people have built places with grass roofs to make them appear that the building is under or in a hill :-)
VardaValar1: And flets/talans in trees.
VardaValar1: Caves with tree-like columns, large places to live in.
AriehnV: Mithril and its qualities
AriehnV: a light but impenetrable ore that makes perfect armor
Glorfindel VG: There may be a Mithril equivilant we're not totally aware of
AriehnV: Ithildin tho , the moonletters

VardaValar1: Indis and Arien's rp posts look pretty good. Next we need to figure out how to keep our party working together.
AriehnV: itz rather foolish that Frali will try to get the sword back , i suppose he gets caught straight away

ArPharazonV: Swords that glow on proximity. A lock in a mountainwall that only opens when a certain day's light falls on it.

VardaValar1: It's his desire for the sword that causes problems, and the need of others to keep it from him as they see his forming addiction to it.

VardaValar1: Sounds good, Phar. : )

ArPharazonV: I dare you to use the word "precious", Frali :-)
VardaValar1: hehehe
AriehnV: maybe he needs a bit *tempering* to get back on the right path , when he gets back onto it he will be mortally ashamed of himself and will seek to redeem himself
AriehnV: alone for that reason he will want to continue to angmar
VardaValar1: Good character arc.
VardaValar1: Indis is looking at Arien's post now.

VardaValar1: Since we've all gone to side windows or are away,
VardaValar1: *whomp!*
