Eonwe Valar: If there's no Membership News, on to Web:
Eonwe Valar: Varda, your floor :}
VardaValar1: Thank you. :-)
VardaValar1: DeepGroover-(T) has given us two new works of art, models.
VardaValar1: One is the Crusader:
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/art/gallery/DeepGroover/Crusader/Crusader.htm
VardaValar1: The other is now included in the Tolkien Site and on the rotating images on our starting page:
VardaValar1: Goblin bust:
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/art/gallery/DeepGroover/GoblinBust/GoblinBust.htm
VardaValar1: That last is a major award winner and crowd-pleaser at shows.
VardaValar1: He's been winning a lot of awards with his work. Now mostly just displays without competing, but still a little competition to help represent his local chapter.
VardaValar1: That's all my web news.
Eonwe Valar: Thanks.

Eonwe Valar: Gaming:
Eonwe Valar: WoW:
Eonwe Valar: Patch 4.1 is out, and with it some fun new stuff.
ArPharazonV: Bit of an odd timing though, right in the middle of Noblegarden and Children's Week.
Eonwe Valar: A new tier of heroics, and Guild Challenges, which while exciting-sounding is really just a group of guildies completing a level-appropriate dungeon/raid/battleground.
Eonwe Valar: Aye, as Phar noted, NobleGarden is ending, and Children's Week is coming.
AriehnV: aye its quite nice these guild features and the stv questline with the pet as reward :-)
VardaValar1: Children's Week? When is that over?
ArPharazonV: Aye, Arien, and there's a second pet in it for you if you finished the lowerlevel northern stranglethorn quests
ArPharazonV: hmm... started today, so... next week?
Eonwe Valar: Children's Week will last a week from when it starts :}
VardaValar1: Ok, good to know it started. Nice one to do. :-)
Eonwe Valar: So if it started today, yeah, next Saturday would be the last day.
AriehnV: hmm nice .. that would be the wee raptor aye ? darn havent done those on Justi but on the rogue :-)
ArPharazonV: Always fun to see the raids filled with orphans accompanying the players.
ArPharazonV: Aye, the raptor.
Eonwe Valar: Lothar:
Eonwe Valar: Sunday Run:
Eonwe Valar: Participants:Members: Eonwe, EowynGuild Friends: Schlep
Eonwe Valar: We took a shot at a random dungeon and ended up in Grim Batol. Unfortunately, about half way through Eonwë's power was knocked out by storms, so the group had to replace him.
Eonwe Valar: Friday Run:
Eonwe Valar: Participants: Elwing, Fangorn, Eowyn, Varda
Eonwe Valar: They spent the evening working on the Noblegarden quests. Eonwe was late coming in, and had had his Noblegarden fun already.
VardaValar1: Glorfindel partied with us too but didn't actually run the quests with us.
VardaValar1: Guild-friend Schlep joined in too.
ArPharazonV: Did you all make it to Un'goro? :-)
VardaValar1: Aye!
VardaValar1: Fangorn ported us partway and we used branches to turn each other to rabbits. :-)
VardaValar1: Many eggs were laid.
AriehnV: i have some thing to add for Friday "raises hand "
Eonwe Valar: If Varda's done, go ahead Arien.
AriehnV: Eowyn took my druid Annarwen through to Black Rock Dephts .. not sure who guided who there since we constantly got lost and a lot of running forwards and backwards
AriehnV: it was orignially for my druid quest but we ended up slaughtering the whole place and got Mairimages (Eowyn 's ) attunement quest for Molten Core done
AriehnV: And eventually my class quest :-)
AriehnV: got some gear upgrades .. and the Druid in the meantime is short of outlands at level 57
AriehnV: thats me :-)
ArPharazonV: By the way, for those interested, they announced some parts of the next patch, 4.2
ArPharazonV: I could link the European articles, but I'm sure they're on the American site as well.
ArPharazonV: Some new mechanics for daily quests and zone-phasing which should prove quite interesting!
AriehnV: have they added more dailies for Uldum ?
ArPharazonV: Not that I know of.
ArPharazonV: Well, that's it for me.
ArPharazonV: Unless there's any questions.
Eonwe Valar: Thanks Arien. I'd meant to mention the 4.2 stuff.
VardaValar1: yay for more than one mind!
Eonwe Valar: LotRO:
Eonwe Valar: Varda's floor :}
VardaValar1: Thanks :-)
VardaValar1: I'm very happy to say that Monday in all-Valar run, we beat Sammath Gul of Dol Guldur.
VardaValar1: Indis did a great job of leading and the group cooperated and communicated and used their class skills well. :-)
VardaValar1: It's very tough, high level.
VardaValar1: One Symbol of Celebrimbor dropped, and I believe Gorlim-V got it. :-)
VardaValar1: Very useful for high level crafting and he's one of our high level crafters so that was good. :-)
VardaValar1: Participants: Gildor (guardian Marrella), Gorlim (minstrel Aeronwy), Indis (lore-master Mereniel), Maedhros (warden Maedhroc), Nimrodel (hunter Ardisian), Pippin (champion Avengelina).
karakedi25 has entered the room.
karakedi25: Aiya
VardaValar1: Wednesday we ran the Sixteenth Hall to complete the class quest for Galdor's burglar, successfully.
VardaValar1: Aiya Indis :-) There's that SG culprit now. :-)
karakedi25: culprit?
karakedi25: *looks innocent*
VardaValar1: Sixteenth Hall was new to most of the group and we had fun showing them the ropes and got up to the last boss, but
VardaValar1: 4 of the group were threatened by tornadoes and we had to stop.
VardaValar1: In general news for LotRO,
VardaValar1: Turbine is taking over from Euro's Codemasters Online.
VardaValar1: This means alll servers will be under Turbine.
VardaValar1: We hope that means it'll be easier to see folks like Elatan there. :-)
VardaValar1: Arien, how's the lag for you on LotRO?
VardaValar1: We have a nice sized Euro group now that seems to game just fine on Turbine, so it should be ok.
VardaValar1: That's all my news on LotRO.
ArPharazonV: Does that mean it would be easier for Europeans to get on American servers?
karakedi25: It should
Eonwe Valar: Thanks, Varda.
ArPharazonV: ...Not that I'm planning to at this point, but still, might be in the future.
VardaValar1: Free to play doesn't hurt. :-)
Eonwe Valar: I don't see how it would make a difference.
VardaValar1: The difference is
Eonwe Valar: They're not merging anything, just taking over what's already in existence, from my understanding.
VardaValar1: I've been told they are moving the Euro servers to Boston.
ArPharazonV: Aye, but it does get down to the same company etc.
Eonwe Valar: Maybe moving to different servers, but still.
ArPharazonV: For purchasing the game, paying subscription, etc.
VardaValar1: That means Euros would have to play on Boston servers, not servers in Euro.
VardaValar1: That could mean laggier play.
ArPharazonV: Aye, it does mean all data needs to go halfway across the world.
VardaValar1: If our Euros aren't having a problem then it should be ok.
karakedi25: there's some agonizing among the roleplayers about Laurelin vs Landroval
VardaValar1: Also might prevent shutdowns.
VardaValar1: I haven't heard about that, Indis. Is that the Euro rp server?
karakedi25: yes
karakedi25: and it's actually officially designated RP
VardaValar1: Aye, and they can keep it that way, as we do Landroval but maybe better.
karakedi25: it is a smaller community and tighter
VardaValar1: Sounds good. :-)
VardaValar1: So they're worrried about getting messed up by an influx of non-rp and different rp?
karakedi25: there's concern that they will lose some of that; the Landrovalians are concerned that RPers will want to go to the "official" RP server, so they'll lose people they want and not get new ones
karakedi25: yes, among other things
VardaValar1: Crickhollow is another unofficial RP server here, new server.
karakedi25: Yes, I have characters there, and it's RP friendly but not required
karakedi25: like Landroval, it has its share of stupid player names
VardaValar1: Any chance they can keep Laurelin designated as an official RP server?
karakedi25: very likely they will
karakedi25: which is why some Landrovalians are worried
VardaValar1: Turbine hasn't been doing that, so it's not a bad question.
VardaValar1: Crickhollow didn't wreck Landroval. Maybe Landroval should make itself more appealing to Laurelin players. :-)
karakedi25: If I understand correctly, they've promised the Europeans no changes in the status quo.
VardaValar1: O good!
VardaValar1: And if the Europeans would like a milder RP server, they might like to come to Landroval or Crickhollow.
Eonwe Valar: Unless the European servers are being merged into the server list with the North American servers ( I don't recall reading this as the case), I don't see the concern. If they're still being kept separate, the communities aren't going to be overlapping.
VardaValar1: I'm done on my report. Rest is speculation at least on my part.
Eonwe Valar: OK.
Eonwe Valar: Any other gaming news before we move on to Tolkien? Now would also be a good time to whisper me Tolkien Topics.
top

Eonwe Valar: Tolkien:
Eonwe Valar: Who all is still here?
karakedi25: *waves*
ArPharazonV: Aye.
AriehnV: err justtook a walk with frodo
VardaValar1: here
Eonwe Valar: Well, since everyone responding is in the RP, let's talk about that :}
VardaValar1: Good reminder, thanks.
AriehnV: i need a post from Indis i am afraid .. maybe she can gauge Frali into showing her the runes on the orc sword
AriehnV: er Meren
karakedi25: Yes I owe you a post.
VardaValar1: That should be fun to read. :-)
Eonwe Valar: I'll probably be moving us on down the road soon, or rather up the High Pass, so any at-camp posts should be taken care of as soon as possible.
Eonwe Valar: I'm thinking we probably don't need to spend too much time focusing on the trip through the High Pass, and can just move on into Rivendell.
ArPharazonV: No mountain giants throwing boulders? No goblins and wargs and avalanches? :-)
VardaValar1: At least make a wild run through it? :-)
VardaValar1: Avalanche takes out the wargs and goblins chasing us as we race just ahead of the fall! Wheee
VardaValar1: Arrive in Riv early for some reason.
ArPharazonV: hehe
VardaValar1: Mad gallops might do that.
VardaValar1: I had the thought that we may have gone downhill since the days of Elvish medicine. They had Valar teaching, after all.
VardaValar1: So a horse with a broken leg might be fixed, rather than shot.
karakedi25: Of course
karakedi25: I can't imagine an elf not making every effort to save an injured horse.
VardaValar1: We have horse lovers now that cry as a horse is put down for a broken leg. But they've been improving, using huge slings and stuff.
ArPharazonV: Considering the bonds between rider and horse portrayed at many points in Tolkien's work, I can't even imagine humans not making every effort.
VardaValar1: Elves could rig a sling and raise up a horse, I'll bet.
karakedi25: they could also probably enhance healing
VardaValar1: Aye
VardaValar1: We don't hear much really about what they can or can't heal. With such long lives, they need good medicine if only to handle accidents.
VardaValar1: What do they do about a missing limb?
karakedi25: Maedhros never got his right hand back.
Eonwe Valar: Aye, a lost limb is a lost limb.
ArPharazonV: He adapted. He became stronger for it.
Eonwe Valar: If it were possible to reattach, I imagine more effort would've been made to take the hand with him, and less concern over the cutting it off.
VardaValar1: Right. He didn't.
VardaValar1: And he didn't get a silver hand like Nuadha in the Celtic tales.
VardaValar1: So if they lose a limb, it's gone.
ArPharazonV: Or a robotic hand like Luke Skywalker :-)
VardaValar1: But perhaps a broken one can be set perfectly?
Eonwe Valar: Broken bones I imagine can be set and mended, aye.
karakedi25: With healer skills, I'd think so
VardaValar1: Nuadha's sounded a lot like Luke's. :-)
VardaValar1: Ok, so they could do perhaps a perfect set, or just a tiny amount off?
Eonwe Valar: Elves are more resillient than humans, makes it easier to heal them I imagine.
ArPharazonV: It seems likely.
VardaValar1: That makes their healers look even better!
ArPharazonV: Stronger spirits and bodies, their limbs might do the final adjustments themselves.
karakedi25: Also, they consider what they do to be art, so they would strive for elegance and as close to perfection as possible.
VardaValar1: Oh, today is Finarfin-(V)'s birthday!
ArPharazonV: Congratulations!
Eonwe Valar: Happy Birthday to Finarfin :}
karakedi25: Many happy returns to my fine son!
Fladrifv has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: Seems the conversation has died. Shall we bang the gavel here?
VardaValar1: How about the RP?
VardaValar1: Are we posting?
ArPharazonV: I assume Indis will be :-)
AriehnV: happy birthday Finarfin
VardaValar1: We can bang the gavel and talk RP in After-meeting?
Eonwe Valar: Sounds good.
Eonwe Valar: *raises gavel into the air*
Eonwe Valar: *bangs gavel*
top

Eonwe Valar: Aftermeeting
VardaValar1: *dances in the stars*
AriehnV: searches for a broom in Imladris ..
VardaValar1: The Hobbit movies are upcoming.
ArPharazonV: Any new videos out yet?
VardaValar1: We really need to get articles and such set up for that. Anything related to it will start getting more hits, and really get hits when the movies come out.
VardaValar1: stories, art, poetry, just anything.
karakedi25: Posted
VardaValar1: PJ has comments and photos though:
VardaValar1: http://www.facebook.com/PeterJacksonNZ?sk=wall
VardaValar1: yay Indis!
VardaValar1: No new videos yet.
VardaValar1: Well done post, Indis
karakedi25: thanks
karakedi25: let's see what Frali has to say :-)
VardaValar1: Good atmosphere :-)
ArPharazonV: Nope, but reading the latest messages now.
ArPharazonV: Heyy, the main character from Pushing Daisies is going to play Thranduil. Nice.
Eonwe Valar has left the room.
Eonwe Valar has entered the room.
VardaValar1: I haven't seen Pushing Daisies. You seem to approve so that bodes well. : )
AriehnV has left the room.
ArPharazonV: Aye, a rather original tv series, bit fairy-tale style about a pie-maker who can bring people back to life by touching them.
ArPharazonV: But if he doesn't touch them to kill them permanently in the next 60 seconds, another nearby equivalent lifeform (human for a human, for example) dies.
ArPharazonV: It's a bit of crime-solving :-)
VardaValar1: Lee Pace as Thranduil. They liked the movie he was in, "The Fall".
ArPharazonV: Aye. That's him.
ArPharazonV: I don't know the movie though.
VardaValar1: Sticky sort of a gift.
ArPharazonV: Aye. Makes for interesting stories.
ArPharazonV: For example, in the first episode he brings his childhood girlfriend back to life, and can't bear to kill her again; another man dies (this is resolved in the first few episodes); but he can't ever touch her again or she'd die permanently. Rather troubling relationship that's central to the series.
AriehnV has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Rogue tried wearing gloves and such. Guess that doesn't work for him.
ArPharazonV: Gloves work.
ArPharazonV: I think. Not sure.
ArPharazonV: They once kissed through a sheet of plastic. So it should work.
ArPharazonV: Anyway. Lee Pace is the pie-maker with the gift.
VardaValar1: Life finds a way. : )
ArPharazonV: And the other new castmember appears to be Iolaus in the Young Hercules series, but I haven't seen much of that show yet.
ArPharazonV: In the Hercules/Xena franchise, which many of you may be familiar with.
karakedi25: afk for about 20 minutes (lifeboat drill) [starting a cruise]
VardaValar1: Have a great trip!
ArPharazonV: I'm sure that in an actual lifeboat situation you won't be able to say online that you're going to be afk :-)
karakedi25: nope
VardaValar1: by phone once in the lifeboat? :-)
AriehnV: is the Avar still with us or has he vanished in the forest somewhere ?
VardaValar1: Menel? Can't even raise him in an IM.
VardaValar1: He's supposedly online but not live, apparently.
AriehnV: Anyone has an idea what is best used for cleaning a sword handle? rather a rough cloth or more like sand thats rubbed over it ? not sure what an orc sword handle is made of .. metal wrapped in leather with the runes edged in it or should they be on the blade itself ?
VardaValar1: Depends on materials
VardaValar1: Cloth with oil maybe
VardaValar1: Sorry meant for the cleaning question.
AriehnV: but the question is rather whether the avar is actually in a position to be pointed at or whether he is not with the group at all
VardaValar1: He's supposed to be with us.
AriehnV: thats fine and thats what i thoght of instictively :-)
VardaValar1: He's just quiet. )
ArPharazonV: Aye. He hasn't left us since the clearing-battle.
VardaValar1: Feel free to point at him. And maybe email him that he needs to look at the rp.
AriehnV: Post
VardaValar1: Yay Arien!
ArPharazonV: :-)
VardaValar1: The cloth can actually be very soft, and brushes can even be used if it's wound wire.
VardaValar1: Orc weapons would be crude mostly.
AriehnV: right .. soft cloth then
AriehnV: dont think Frali would carry a brush with him for that :-\0
karakedi25: back from the drill
ArPharazonV: Could use it to comb his beard as well!
VardaValar1: You should be very good with the drill by now. : )
VardaValar1: Something like a toothbrush. : )
VardaValar1: Toothbrushes once upon a time were made by fraying the end of a stick.
VardaValar1: I am so full of trivia.
VardaValar1: Fainan might make one for you right quick. : )
AriehnV: hehe
ArPharazonV: Hm, I think I saw that fraying once in a survival show, but they did it so it would burn well.
AriehnV: grin .. i posted it this to make it look *intentionally casual* but really trying to hide the reluctance to show them
AriehnV: but cloth will do think , Frali hasnt handled or used the blade much , just in the last run
ArPharazonV: I like "this other elf" :-)
ArPharazonV: real friendly!
VardaValar1: hhehehe
VardaValar1: Frali's taking a bit to get warmed up to the various elves as individuals. As a group, he probably finds them all a bit off-putting. Tall, skinny, look like they'll fall over in a stiff breeze.
Eonwe Valar: I don't imagein Elves look *that* skinny :}
Eonwe Valar: *imagine
ArPharazonV: Compared to a dwarf, they might.
VardaValar1: To a dwarf. And I exaggerate for amusement value. : )
AriehnV: *agrees* He fancies Fainan a bit and admires Meren whom he thinks is most approachable and and is very respectfull and distant to Auros whom he finds a tad *stock up " but doesnt how it of course :-)
AriehnV: now Estarion is a different thing .. because when Estarion flung the sword at him it seemed to him a bit contemptous almost .. so he has not a very high oppinion of him
AriehnV: but that might change during the journey and Estarion could prove himself in a way
AriehnV: but thats up to Menel of course
karakedi25: Response posted
VardaValar1: yay!
ArPharazonV: I can imagine Frali becoming more suspicious with every sentence.
karakedi25: I hope she's done an end-run to deal with that.
VardaValar1: Neat way she says that. Aroused her professional interest.
VardaValar1: Our Avar buddy might get in trouble for handing over this sword, but he was doing proper guerrilla tactics of gathering supplies from the downed enemy.
AriehnV: Post
VardaValar1: Nice. We have a good spookiness going here.
AriehnV: not too much i hope just a bit of a side quest :-)
karakedi25: Meren will look at it, take some guesses about it, suggest Frali be given an alternate weapon, and urge that the orc sword be sequestered until she can consult with the Rivendell loremasters. Auros may have something to add.
ArPharazonV: Aye. Been thinking Calion might overhear, poke Fainan and say "What do you think of the sword they've got there?" or something similar :-)
VardaValar1: Not a side quest necessarily, but info on our baddy. A useful thing.
VardaValar1: Fainan will be noticing this side stuff, wondering when it would be good to ask. Looks like letting Meren get to the bottom of it is best and she doesn't want to touch that thing.
AriehnV: good then i ll let you deal with that and look forward to reading your posts :-)
ArPharazonV: I'm trying to think of ways for Calion to get more involved, basically. Spent too much time focusing on his brother. This might be a good start.
AriehnV: bed time for me i think .. getting rather sleepy
ArPharazonV: Namarie :-)
AriehnV: its been mad at work today .. just manic busy
ArPharazonV: Ah.
AriehnV: loads of tourists about still
VardaValar1: Good night! : )
AriehnV: namarie for now :-)
VardaValar1: Good to hear people aren't afraid to travel for touristing.
VardaValar1: Kind of thought it might trickle down to business only.
AriehnV: certanly not and quite a few from the states
ArPharazonV: why, Varda?
AriehnV: terrorism threats .. and the storms
ArPharazonV: Storms?
AriehnV: the twister zone .. but gtg noow really ;-)
AriehnV: bb
ArPharazonV: bye!
AriehnV has left the room.
ArPharazonV: Is it worse than usual, then?
VardaValar1: yes
VardaValar1: I have to leave now, family fun stuff happening and we need to eat right quick.
VardaValar1: Namarie for now!
ArPharazonV: Namarie!
VardaValar1 has left the room.
karakedi25: Response posted. Varda gets to answer this one.
karakedi25: Namarie!
karakedi25 has left the room.
ArPharazonV: Saving and sending transcript.
