EonweValar: If you made a mistake, we both made the exact same one, hehe.
AriehnV: my thoughts are with him anyways
VardaValar1: Fladrif and Galdor are invited, when they come off afk. : )

VardaValar1: Web:
VardaValar1: New article: Zirakzigil, our first article under the Z's. : )
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/articles/z/Zirakzigil.htm
VardaValar1: Not just any mountain. Gandalf won't forget it any time soon.
VardaValar1: New art:
VardaValar1: We have a new artist, Rombadillo.
VardaValar1: He saw that we wanted more Tolkien art, finding us from one of those side links that pop up on the sides of things, and gave us permission to use some he had made ten years ago, now online.
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/art/gallery/Rombadillo/caveRombadillo.htm
VardaValar1: I asked if he'd be interested in perhaps illustrating some of our stories or poems and he took it as a fun challenge, the first artist we've had do that. : )
VardaValar1: So we may be seeing new original art from him later too.
VardaValar1: The Hobbit movie put up more dwarf pictures, this time the brothers Kili and Fili:
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/art/gallery/moviepics/KiliFili.jpg
AriehnV: nice
VardaValar1: Eonwe, I know you've been working behind the scenes for the Tolkien Site very hard, many hours. Would you like to say anything at this time?
EonweValar: Not yet, no.
VardaValar1: Ok, fair enough. But you have my great appreciation. : )

VardaValar1: Gaming:
VardaValar1: Eonwe, would you like to give a WoW report?
EonweValar: Sure.
EonweValar: Sunday Run:
EonweValar: Last Sunday we went into Black Temple. As we had no actual specced tank, it made the fights more interesing. We made it through to the end though.
VardaValar1: Bilbo was our valiant tanking druid. : )
VardaValar1: He says he'd rather play ranged. : )
VardaValar1: but he did it anyway!
AriehnV: (Elwing sais hi from Lothar )
VardaValar1: Hi to Elwing!
VardaValar1: In WoW Lothar we also have a new bank tab, giving another achievement.
EonweValar: Friday: We didn't have an actual run this week, but the guild made it to level 11.
VardaValar1: Yay!
VardaValar1: While it wasn't a real run, we had a few of us on, and Elwing and I duoed a bit.
EonweValar: And as Varda said, we picked up a new bank tab last Sunday after the run. We then set aside a tab for BC and WotLK stuff, so the regular tabs can have room for lvl 81-85 stuff.
EonweValar: Thus concludes my report.
VardaValar1: yay for getting organized! Very tough. Thank you for that, Eonwe.
VardaValar1: Arien, you had a WoW report too?
AriehnV: yes Elwing and Schlep helped Annarwen a bit in Dragonblight
AriehnV: with the wanted quests , with two anyways and we both did the start of the wrathgate as well which i showed her on her hunter
AriehnV: who is a level higher than the druid
AriehnV: After we needed two tries at the High Justicar Soandso we tried kreug stonebreaker but had to give in before his intimidating shout
AriehnV: schlepp joined us for that one :-)
AriehnV: Unfortunately i had to leave at that point since it was five minutes before i started work and i had to steal Bruces car to get in halways on time ;0
AriehnV: Thus endeth my report
VardaValar1: Thank you, Arien. : )

VardaValar1: On to LotRO:
VardaValar1: For the Monday run, we did the Helegrod drake and spider wings for marks, just a quick run in.
VardaValar1: To my surprise, we had a ton of people, enough for a proper raid.
VardaValar1: We then did the planned Skumfil run with six of us, while three did the new Forsaken Inn 3-man.
VardaValar1: The Forsaken Inn is a good one for those of us who like riddles, among other things. A fun run that I recommend.
VardaValar1: Wednesday we again had a big crew, so after the regular Helegrod mark run, we ran the full Spider Wing all the way to the boss spider, Zaudru.
VardaValar1: A number of things had changed since the old days when I used to run it, but we handled it all with smarts from the whole group, until we hit Zaudru.
VardaValar1: There we hit a stump, and have since been looking up info on how to handle it.
VardaValar1: We still collected marks, completed a batch of quests and got well into a batch of deeds, all of which had been clogging up space for many.
VardaValar1: It's worth doing just to see how big Zaudru is. : )
VardaValar1: Arien, you had a LotRO report?
AriehnV: aye
AriehnV: Ulmo was kind enough to help my hunter along through a minor 3 man instance with in the fem chain
AriehnV: in Angmar
AriehnV: even though i was a bit prattling and querulous at the time for which i d like to express my sincerest apologies
AriehnV: even a maia is a just a human sometimes ^^#
VardaValar1: It was also very late for you. : )
AriehnV: but many thanks to him :-) and  to Varda for hints and shoves :-D
AriehnV: that was it from me :-)
VardaValar1: and to you for persevering. : )

VardaValar1: Any other games that anyone would like to mention?
AriehnV: been doing a bit eve, i spotted Menel online on Tuesday but there was no response to either mail or whisper
EonweValar: Starcraft 2 has a new patch on the PTR: 1.3.5.
VardaValar1: Probably afk
VardaValar1: SC2 not just a maintaining thing?
EonweValar: They're constantly fixing bugs, balancing, etc.
EonweValar: And every now and then making a new map or two.
VardaValar1: Yay new maps : )
VardaValar1: O Arien, any sign of Pallando in Eve Online?
karakedi25 has entered the room.
karakedi25: Aiya
AriehnV: aiya indis
VardaValar1: Aiya Indis : )
AriehnV: nope unfortunately not , but i have him on my watch list so i can see when he comes online
VardaValar1: Cool
AriehnV: he seems to have shut down the valar channel and put it into an eve mailing list
VardaValar1: No one joined it. The Valarites that came in joined other corps.
AriehnV: the channel not the corp ^^
VardaValar1: O ok. Didn't know you could shut it down. Guess that lets him hear when away.
AriehnV: i know that , Varda and he acted out of same reasons as i on wow at the time , ... activity problems you know the story which i wont warm again ^^
VardaValar1: Ready to shift to Tolkien?
top

VardaValar1: Tolkien:
VardaValar1: Chapter one of the Fellowship of the Ring at first glance may deceptively seem to have very little of importance in it, just as the hobbits themselves.
VardaValar1: hmm, pardon the font shift
ArPharazon-V (ArPharazonV) has entered the room.
ArPharazon-V: Aiya
VardaValar1: In it we have a double birthday party and an inheritance as the old hobbit leaves for adventures.

VardaValar1: Phar!
VardaValar1: Aiya!
ArPharazon-V: Just here as a cameo, so to speak. Gotta get up again in 6 hours, and I'm kinda tired.
VardaValar1: Just glad to see you :-)
EonweValar: Good to see you and sleep well :}
VardaValar1: Thanks for popping by!
VardaValar1: We just started Tolkien.
AriehnV: rest well indis
karakedi25: huh?
ArPharazon-V: Oh. Going to miss next week as well. Going on vacation for a week on Friday.
VardaValar1: Phar : )
AriehnV: oop phara , rest well Phara
VardaValar1: You could use a vacation - be sure to de-stress!
ArPharazon-V: I will! Got a few new books to read :)
VardaValar1: o nifty!
ArPharazon-V: Well, goodnight!
VardaValar1: Nighty night, Phar : )
ArPharazon-V (ArPharazonV) has left the room.

VardaValar1: The double birthday party was a cover-up, a way to make it easier for Bilbo to leave the Ring to Frodo.
VardaValar1: It was also Bilbo's chance to leave everything else to Frodo and free himself to go adventuring again.
VardaValar1: Which he did in the company of three unnamed dwarves. : )
VardaValar1: So there was one thing that seemed simple and unassuming, becoming important.
VardaValar1: Gandalf knew Bilbo was going to give away the Ring to Frodo, but didn't realize just how strong the Ring was until Bilbo tried to give it up. What clues did Gandalf see?
VardaValar1: It was enough to worry him to leave Bag End a week early, cutting short his vacation, making him look as if he bore the weight of the world when he left.
EonweValar: He saw how Bilbo hesistated to give it up, even after deciding to do so.
VardaValar1: What was odd about the way he hesitated?
AriehnV: Bilbo became suspicious of Gandalf's intentions
karakedi25: didn't really want to give up the ring
VardaValar1: Why?
AriehnV: then became threatening and called it *my precious*
karakedi25: becoming 'addicted' it
karakedi25: *to
AriehnV: he thought he wanted to steal it
VardaValar1: Aye, when he called it my precious, that became worrisome. Addiction, aye. How did he show addiction?
VardaValar1: Yet Gandalf had never given him cause for concern before, especially not as a thief.
AriehnV: He tried to draw sting against him
AriehnV: against Gandalf
AriehnV: and .. when he finally got to the stage of putting the ring into the envelope and putting it on the mantelpiece he first didnt realise that he put it in his pocket again
VardaValar1: Bilbo's hand did go to the hilt of his sword, although not actually drawing.
VardaValar1: Good point, I had to look that up.
VardaValar1: Good mention of the pocket. : )
AriehnV: aye , *he tried to draw sting* thats what i meant :-)
VardaValar1: Aye, you said right. I had to look it up because I didn't remember it. : )
AriehnV: i ve got that little scene quite ready in my inner eye :-)
VardaValar1: Nice : )
VardaValar1: The party didn't really help Bilbo give up the Ring in the end. He had to summon up the strength inside himself after all, a hard thing to do.
VardaValar1: The only way to break an addiction
VardaValar1: By giving Frodo the One Ring as an inheritance, Bilbo took away some of the power the Ring could have over Frodo.
VardaValar1: He got it from a willing giver, and legally, peacefully. No force, no violence.
VardaValar1: No power-grab.
VardaValar1: This also set up why Sam could one day return the Ring. He too was an exceptional hobbit, and the Ring came to him legally as part of his mission.
VardaValar1: He could give it back because it had not had as much time to gain a hold and for the above reasons, and because he considered Frodo the rightful holder, his own master, and his dear friend.
VardaValar1: We also meet Merry in this chapter.
VardaValar1: He is set up as one of Frodo's closest friends, helping him evict unwanted pests from Bag End and trying to shield him from the Sackville-Bagginses.
VardaValar1: We meet Sam briefly as well, as the current gardener, son of the previous gardener, of Bag End, living as neighbors on the Hillb by Bag End.
VardaValar1: Both are on "very friendly terms with Bilbo and Frodo".
VardaValar1: Another set-up there for Sam.
VardaValar1: That's all I can think of to mention about the first chapter. It sets up good folk going up against an ever-increasing creepiness.
VardaValar1: That idea continues all through the books.
VardaValar1: Any further comments or suggestions?
VardaValar1: (Eonwe is afk)
VardaValar1: If not,
VardaValar1: go ahead, Arien.
AriehnV: hehe i always thought of it as a slow start ^^
AriehnV: i think thats what makes it hard for new readers to get into it
VardaValar1: A lot about the party, background is set up.
AriehnV: takes about three chapters to get the story really going
AriehnV: once you get through those three chapeters i think its hard to stop hehe

VardaValar1: When do you feel the story got going? What event?
AriehnV: the journey through the old forest, the conspiration and the flight to crickhollow (in wrong order )
AriehnV: other way round
AriehnV: journey to crickhollow, the conspiration and then the old forest
AriehnV: but thinking about it its still a bit set up for the real threat that there is and then Aragorn revealing himself after Frodo's *jest*
VardaValar1: I'm making a stab now at going through LotR in the chats, more or less chapter by chapter. We may discover a good bit that way.
karakedi25: I thought the story got moving during the trek to the border of the Shire and Buckland
VardaValar1: We'll see how long we get away with that. : )
karakedi25: when they ran into the elf band
karakedi25: (in terms of action, that is)
VardaValar1: I thought the revealing of the Ring and the weirdness of it in the first chapter was the main rolling part, set up when Gandalf and Bilbo revealed they were plotting.
VardaValar1: Very interesting to see where people felt the book got interesting.
karakedi25: I agree, in terms of plot
karakedi25: and background
VardaValar1: I thought it had a lot of creepiness there, already affecting them and about to hit an innocent.
VardaValar1: So it started for you when the elves rescued them from the nazgul?
VardaValar1: Everything sets up something else all along. A rolling stone. : )
VardaValar1: In response to Arien on the Aragorn mention.
VardaValar1: At some point for all of us we get caught up in the increasing volume of stones rolling down the hill.
VardaValar1: Shall we adjourn for now?
VardaValar1: I think the group is mostly occupied elsewhere, in games or other at the moment. : )
VardaValar1: *bangs gavel*
top

VardaValar1: After-meeting!
VardaValar1: WoW gang is gathering. I'll grab a drink and go join you. With Arien, Elwing, Bilbo, and myself, plus Eonwe coming in, we have a full party.
VardaValar1: Namarie!

karakedi25: action part started when they were stalked by the nazgul
karakedi25: story part became compelling in 'the shadow of the past'

AriehnV: i cant do Naxx tho :-(

AriehnV: indeed yes i know what you mean
AriehnV: there became obvious that there is more to it
AriehnV: than was obvious from the first glance

Menelvagor Valar (Menelvagor Valar) has entered the room.
karakedi25 has left the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya Menel :-)
VardaValar1: Phar dropped in briefly too
VardaValar1: Sounds great :-)
AriehnV: in Manchester wow, not bad
AriehnV: watching united ?@
Menelvagor Valar: Nah, just visiting a friend from WoW.
Menelvagor Valar: was actually half an hour drive out of Manchester, but you probably wouldn't recognize the name :-D
VardaValar1: We have maps :-)
Menelvagor Valar: --------
VardaValar1: Should I leave that out of the transcript? : )
Menelvagor Valar: the name of the village, yes.
Menelvagor Valar: Manchester is ok :-)
VardaValar1: ok
VardaValar1: You feel free to get some rest! Thanks for coming by. :-)
Menelvagor Valar: Just updating some facebook stuff :-)
Menelvagor Valar: and then I'll be off to bed :-)
Menelvagor Valar: Have fun and good luck tonight :-D
AriehnV: thanks Menel :-)
AriehnV: sleep well
VardaValar1: Rest well. I'm going to try not be eaten by "worgs". No Middle-earth lift in WoW, hehehe
