VardaValar1: Web:
VardaValar1: I was hoping to have a new feature up for you by meeting time on the News page, but it will probably be during the meeting instead.
VardaValar1: I'm putting links at the bottom to the specialty News pages.
VardaValar1: A side-feature that came up while doing that is it also shows where our pages have been least updated lately. Oops.
VardaValar1: That can help us see what to jump into if we want to try a project.
VardaValar1: Eonwe, I know you've been working like crazy. Anything we can look at yet?
Eonwe Valar: Not yet, unfortunately, but still *soon* (TM) :}
VardaValar1: heheh
VardaValar1: The Links page has a new webcomic today: Paradigm Shift, sent in by Meriadoc-V.
VardaValar1: http://www.paradigmshiftmanga.com/ps/part-one-equilibrium.html
AriehnV: back
VardaValar1: Welcome back : )
VardaValar1: Daddy Twofoot sent in a link to "The Tolkien Professor"
ArPharazonV: *clicks link, looks at haircut on front page, closes page*
VardaValar1: http://tolkienprofessor.com/
VardaValar1: lol
VardaValar1: Recorded lectures from Dr. Corey Olsen, a tenured English professor at Washington College, whose PhD is in medieval literature and a long-time Tolkien fan.
VardaValar1: We also have a link to the online journal: "Festival in the Shire"
VardaValar1: http://www.festivalintheshire.com/journal/index.html
VardaValar1: That seems to be all of today's web news until I get this little dab added to the bottom of the News page.

VardaValar1: Gaming:
VardaValar1: Did anyone play non-WoW, non-LotRO this week?
ArPharazonV: Bit of Guildwars, just showed my face and said I'd be gone for a month.
VardaValar1: *strengthens a nervous stage while glancing at the ent*
ArPharazonV: so they don't kick me ;-)
VardaValar1: Kick you anyway for not operating? : )
VardaValar1: Fladrif? Anything going on in Second Life?
fladrifv: just shortly
ArPharazonV: Well I got kicked before, granted, that was after a year of unannounced absence.
fladrifv: chess round won :-)
ArPharazonV: Just thought I wouldn't take any chances.
ArPharazonV: Grats!
fladrifv: only 16 left
VardaValar1: Huzzah!
fladrifv: of the 1900 starters
VardaValar1: That is an awful lot of chess.
fladrifv: so I will need some thumbs up here :-)
fladrifv: its ongoing for just over a year now
fladrifv: everytime 25% continues
VardaValar1: Consider us all to be in the cheering box behind you. : )
fladrifv: yay :-))
fladrifv: that was all, sl is going a bit slow
VardaValar1: How is the place you were building? I still need a mailed location to find it.
fladrifv: it is still up but too little renters so it will soon not exist anymore
VardaValar1: ack
VardaValar1: Did you advertise it?
fladrifv: economical downterms
fladrifv: yes but its hard, ppl like it but then they visit too often for free hehe
VardaValar1: oops.
VardaValar1: So I'd better get over there fast before it disappears!
fladrifv: yes :-)
VardaValar1: o man
VardaValar1: Any other games?
AriehnV: tried to do the amardillo run demo but makes no sense to me alaz
VardaValar1: Any of these other folk familiar with Armadillo Run that could help in a side window?
VardaValar1: Maybe in the main window?
fladrifv: I run it :-)
VardaValar1: yay!
fladrifv: its great :-)
ArPharazonV: oh, Arien, I got most of the stuff, and stored it somewhere, but it wasn't everything needed to make you the craftables
fladrifv: have it for years they released version 2
ArPharazonV: so you'll have to wait until I'm back
ArPharazonV: (sorry for the in-between)
VardaValar1: No problem. It's how Valar functions, Phar. :-)
VardaValar1: On to WoW
VardaValar1: Eonwe, your floor. : )
Eonwe Valar: Thanks :}
Eonwe Valar: First, some general WoW news.
Eonwe Valar: Now is the time to make sure your beta opt-in setting are ready if you wish to participate in the Cataclysm beta.
Eonwe Valar: If you haven't seen it yet, a preview for the Halls of Origination is up.
AriehnV: is beta starting then :-D
Eonwe Valar: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/cataclysm/features/origination.html
Eonwe Valar: They are telling people to get ready :}
Eonwe Valar: You can see a preview of profession changes here: http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=24702235621
Eonwe Valar: And you might want to take a look at Blizzard's RealID "feature" http://www.battle.net/realid/
AriehnV: has anyone subscribed to the wow magazine? i am a bit tempted but is it worth 30 quiid for a year?
Eonwe Valar: I haven't, and don't really plan to.
VardaValar1: They seem to have pretty much all I need from the Launcher's news.
Eonwe Valar: Lothar:
Iryenth: we signed up for a year at Blizzcon for the Murloc plush. The magazine itself isn't really worth it.
AriehnV: oky thanks :-)
Menelvagor Valar has entered the room.
Menelvagor Valar: Aiya!
VardaValar1: Aiya Menelvagor : )
AriehnV: aiya :-)
Menelvagor Valar: whoa... new interface.
Eonwe Valar: Varda, Bilbo, Elwing, and I ran a couple of random dungeons on Friday night. First was a normal Trial of the Champion, and the second was a heroic Halls of Lightning.
Eonwe Valar: That' completes my WoW news.
Menelvagor Valar: how'd it go? :-)
Eonwe Valar: We made it through :}
Menelvagor Valar: hehe :-)
AriehnV: I am back alternating Auchindoun and Argent Dawn and retook the levelling of the pali , shammi and priest up :-)
Menelvagor Valar: nice :-)
Menelvagor Valar: how far along are they?
AriehnV: Finduilasse 74, Ahrienn is 46 and Unarien 31
AriehnV: so getting there and hopefull Findu will stay rested until 80 :-)
Menelvagor Valar: hehe :-)
Menelvagor Valar: depends on how often you play her I guess :-D
AriehnV: Findu is my only male character hehe
AriehnV: read his rebirth if u like on the website of the valarguild L:-)
AriehnV: so i ve seen Calaron a few times in the valar channel#
AriehnV: thats me :-) and as usual he ll provide lw stuff i f i need them :-)
ArPharazonV: *nod*
ArPharazonV: I'm almost at 9000 achievement points now, and nearly have the Lich King down on 10-man (made it to 36% yesterday) should be able to finsih both when I come back in a month.
VardaValar1: Billboh on Lothar has everything from all the heroics now, hasn't got much left he can do new.
ArPharazonV: *finish
Menelvagor Valar: I know the feeling.
VardaValar1: Sounds as if you found plenty to do. : )
Menelvagor Valar: whenever I run heroics with my main, I don't even check loot anymore, I just press disenchant.
AriehnV: nice one we started icc running on Auchindoun (remember Helm is there :-) )
Eonwe Valar: Don't disenchant the Battered Hilt! :}
Eonwe Valar: Would be nice to meet Helm one day, hehe :}
Menelvagor Valar: nah, I'll sell that one for 5k, or complete the quest just for completing it :-)
AriehnV: 5k thats cheap lol usually it sells for 9 k pluss on our server :-(]
AriehnV: but carry on with the meeting :-)
VardaValar1: Lord of the Rings Online:
VardaValar1: We now have regular runs on Monday and Wednesday.
VardaValar1: It's at 8pm EST
VardaValar1: We've been doing non-scheduled runs together too, that seemed to have been sparked by the regular runs.
VardaValar1: Mostly we're running Moria radiance dungeons, rather than the high-end Mirkwood, to bring our main regulars all up even on radiance gear.
VardaValar1: We are also crafting for each other, using a team effort.
VardaValar1: end report

VardaValar1: Tolkien:
VardaValar1: We have enough here to make comments on the role-play.
Menelvagor Valar: mostly waiting on Phar to make his next post with Calaron.
VardaValar1: The latest scene has entries from Auros, Frali, and Fainan.
ArPharazonV: 's not gonna happen for a month, Menel... I had plans, but haven't come to it yet
ArPharazonV: And we needed to decide on which way to go, which was hard to discuss without you ;-)
Menelvagor Valar: not really, you could have posted without me being here :-D
ArPharazonV: Short-term, yes. But that's not what I'm talking about.
Menelvagor Valar: and sundays have been rather icky for me of late, due to the weekly game night with friends, tends to last until 2 AM +.
VardaValar1: Glad you could make it tonight. Talk fast guys! : )
VardaValar1: Maybe email would work.
VardaValar1: Gets around the whole timing problem.
ArPharazonV: The long-term issue is that I need you to hold still long enough to get a message to you to pass along to the party, without me actually being in the position to easily kill you.
Menelvagor Valar: don't worry, didn't last long tonight, put myself on curfew for tonight ^^
ArPharazonV: And that is where we somehow need to get.
ArPharazonV: The post I'm planning to make when I get back (after reading all the transcripts and forum-posts)
Menelvagor Valar: you wouldn't kill me easily, and I really doubt I'd be standing still for long enough to receive a message.
VardaValar1: Creative thinking time. What would lure him close enough without being in line of an arrow?
VardaValar1: Another arrow with a note attached?
ArPharazonV: Hmm... perhaps. Calaron doesn't have time to write it though.
karakedi25 has entered the room.
karakedi25: Aiay
karakedi25: *Aiya
VardaValar1: Aiya Indis. We're in an rp discussion, good timing. : )
Menelvagor Valar: Aiya Indis!
ArPharazonV: What he needs to do is talk with Estarion (though he doesn't really know it yet) but I don't think Estarion's in a position to listen, which makes this a problem.
Menelvagor Valar: rather, yes.
VardaValar1: Problem is getting a message from Calaron to the fast-moving Estarion.
Eonwe Valar: Sure, pull up a piece of paper, an ink well, a pen, scribble down some Cirth...
ArPharazonV: ...all the while making sure not to lose track of Estarion in the trees as he runs...
Menelvagor Valar: Aye... I've set Estarion up as a rather rash character.
ArPharazonV: Another method would be skipping Estarion alltogether, following him to the open circle instead, and there confronting the party directly (which, again, needs to have something to prevent us from shooting him down)
Menelvagor Valar: and mind you that Estarion misses several thousand years of Calaquendi / Mirkwood history.
Menelvagor Valar: So he isn't aware of the concept of kinslaying.
karakedi25: have the Avari been that isolated that they have heard nothing at all of the history of the Sindar, at least?
ArPharazonV: I can picture Estarion joining us in the circle, Calaron waiting out of sight of it and thinking ("Well, this isn't going to work. I'll just write a note and shoot an arrow.") but that seems kinda anticlimax....
karakedi25: i
karakedi25: I
Menelvagor Valar: I don't know, as far as I do know, the Avari passed out of the history that Tolkien left us.
VardaValar1: Maybe the message could go straight to Calion.
ArPharazonV: Yes. But how would it get there without exposing Calaron to our arrows? Shouting out from behind some tree?
VardaValar1: The Avari may have done some teaching to Men coming out of the East.
karakedi25: didn't Tolkien indicate that in one of his writings?
Menelvagor Valar: true, but that would mean the news going westward, not eastward.
ArPharazonV: And now I need to be going.
Menelvagor Valar: I don't know.
Menelvagor Valar: but what I was thinking is wounding Calaron, and then dragging him to the party.
VardaValar1: Namarie, Phar! Good luck on the field work!
karakedi25: anyway, kinslaying in general wouldn't be something any elf would go for if not under Feanorean madness, history or not
ArPharazonV: And then Calaron... escapes somehow after passing a message? the final confrontation won't be until Angmar.
VardaValar1: The Avari would have bumped into the Silvans too.
Menelvagor Valar: well, he might mutter something to Estarion while being dragged, and then struggling free and disappearing.
Menelvagor Valar: and Estarion unable to follow, due to proximity of spiders / orcs / whatever.
VardaValar1: Estarion is there trying to get intel, right?
Menelvagor Valar: Estarion stayed behind mainly to split up the ambush, to give the party a larger chance of escape.
VardaValar1: So Calaron can give him some during that spy trip.
VardaValar1: ok, that won't work then.
Menelvagor Valar: it's a calculated, though rash, decision.
Menelvagor Valar: and remember the oath I swore to Eonwe :-)
ArPharazonV: Ehh, I'm not sure either of us should "win" in a duel. Especially if you're not aware of kinslaying.
Eonwe Valar: I don't the the concept of an elf slaying an elf would be that foreign, and equally frowned upon.
Menelvagor Valar: I agree.
Eonwe Valar: *I don't think
ArPharazonV: You can escape if you want, and I'll follow... or you could try to drag out the current situation for the next month.
ArPharazonV: I can't tell you what to write, but I'm not going to be here to make any further suggestions.
VardaValar1: Kinslaying was considered evil before Feanor got it started.
ArPharazonV: I'm saving and sending.
VardaValar1: Menel might consider spying, since he's there anyway.
karakedi25: that's my thought, Varda
VardaValar1: Thanks, Phar. :-)
Menelvagor Valar: I will be avoiding a direct confrontation with Calaron as much as possible.
ArPharazonV: Good.
VardaValar1: But spying is not usually done by direct confrontation.
ArPharazonV: Then I'll see what you've come up with when I'm home.
Menelvagor Valar: considering that a direct confrontation would put Estarion in harm's way of the Orcs and spiders who have stayed behind with Calaron.
VardaValar1: Sounds like a plan, Phar. : ) Rest well!
Menelvagor Valar: Taking a risk is one thing, taking an impossible risk is quite another.
ArPharazonV: Besides. We can always change our posts later.
Menelvagor Valar: Namarie Pharzie :-)
Eonwe Valar: Retcon, hehe.
Menelvagor Valar: True, but I'd prefer not to.
ArPharazonV: then you'll need to be as vague and non-confrontational as possible :-)
Menelvagor Valar: I didn't cut my way through some branches to get higher and away from you for no reason ^^
VardaValar1: Sneaky.
ArPharazonV: We can iron out any mistakes. Don't be afraid to do so. It's for the sake of a good story.
ArPharazonV (5:07:24 PM):
saved
VardaValar1 5:07 pm

Menelvagor Valar 5:08 pm
Menelvagor Valar (5:08:29 PM):

We'll see ;)
ArPharazonV (5:08:51 PM):
Namarie!
VardaValar1 5:08 pm
VardaValar1 (5:08:57 PM):
hehe - aye. I've been making jumps in new directions as things change or are misunderstood. Makes it interesting.
ArPharazonV 5:09 pm
ArPharazonV (5:09:24 PM):
the story's a bit narrow here, unless we want to void the entire point of the ambush
ArPharazonV (5:09:51 PM):
I don't want to railroad things too much, but I've got my little story-arc to tell, and it could seriously derail beyond repair if we mess things up.
ArPharazonV (5:10:45 PM):
But I can't worry about that now. Can only do that when I came back and I've seen you mess up ;)
ArPharazonV (5:10:51 PM):
bye all!
ArPharazonV (5:10:55 PM):
see you in 4 weeks

VardaValar1 (5:14:34 PM):
As slow as the rp goes at some points, I doubt we'll have a serious problem. Sometimes it takes off at high speed, sometimes it dawdles.

Not many who can best that! :-D
Eonwe Valar 5:18 pm
Eonwe Valar (5:18:23 PM):
Not many would give it the level of thought we try to apply.
