VardaValar1: Aiya Phar and Pallando :-)
TulkasValar61 has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya Tulkas!
TulkasValar61: Aiya
fladrifv has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya Fladrif :-)
top

VardaValar1: Elen sila lumenn' omentielvo!
Membership:
fladrifv: Aiya Varda
VardaValar1: Good to see you all here.
VardaValar1: Eonwe is working and can't be here right now, but he'll be back next weekend.
VardaValar1: Good thing since I'll probably be out of town next weekend.
fladrifv: *has replied to his email*
VardaValar1: Yay Flad!
VardaValar1: The email that Fladrif mentioned affects all members, the Games Page Mass Update.
VardaValar1: It helps us get together in our various games with others of like mind. :-)
ArPharazonV: Aiya
VardaValar1: If you didn't get your email, you can find a copy on the News page and email Eonwe or me from there.
TulkasValar61: Just read that email 10 minutes ago...first I had heard of diablo 3. I guess i am out of touch gaming wise:-[
VardaValar1: It also helps let us know if we can still contact you.
VardaValar1: Diablo 3 isn't out yet, you're ok. : )
VardaValar1: It's being built and we are watching it.
ArPharazonV: will he be taking lists out of aim again this year, or is email... well... mandatory?
VardaValar1: Email is the best way, but AIM works great too. Just not many of us in AIM.
fladrifv: Our golden king of numenor has lost his send button?
VardaValar1: Since he's not here today, you might want to email him. Otherwise you get to wait a week.
ArPharazonV: our golden king of numenor hates email especially concerning lists of sorts where he might later realize he's forgotten a few and doesn't want to have to email 10 followups
VardaValar1: Email is easy and you can do it when you have time, not pushed. And Eonwe can then have it in front of him while working.
VardaValar1: You have a long list of games?
VardaValar1: Feel free to send a follow-up email if you leave out something. :-)
VardaValar1: I am more liable to forget in live AIM than an email myself, but whatever works!
ArPharazonV: ehh, not sure what counts, whether I play it actively solo, whether I play it actively multiplayer, whether I don't play it much but am always up for multi (because otherwise my list gets frighteningly short)
VardaValar1: The idea is to help members get together, so that can help figure which you want to mention. : )
VardaValar1: Anything multi.
VardaValar1: That help? : )
ArPharazonV: well, yes, there's the thing, "help members get together"... if you mean by that, that they might stumble upon me any time they enter the game, it's probably just WoW atm
VardaValar1: Anyone have any membership news that they want to bring up? Birthdays, etc?
ArPharazonV: if you mean they can contact me for some game from within AIM, it can go up to at least half a dozen
VardaValar1: That is true of most of us, mostly just one or two multi-players.
VardaValar1: It's anything where you would like a fellow Valarite to game with.
VardaValar1: Online chess, whatever. : )
fladrifv: *smiles*
ArPharazonV: we'll see
VardaValar1: We had a couple of members who played Double Solitaire together a lot. : )
ArPharazonV: hah, that sounds fun
VardaValar1: Eowyn and Arwen. : )
VardaValar1: An email lets you ponder and make your list, add a follow-up, or you can wait and tell Eonwe next week. Or both. : )
VardaValar1: Tomorrow a lot of people in the US will be off, no class or work. Of course a lot will also have to work, holiday or not. : )
VardaValar1: So maybe we can have some get-togethers that we don't usually enjoy.
ArPharazonV: I've got one busy month in WoW ahead of me in which I hope to nail down 3 entire world events as well as my last 10 mounts, but in the void of activity that follow I've been pondering spending more time in other games like the BfME series, Guild Wars, and others... having a few people around that I know could be nice in those games
VardaValar1: Aye, that would be cool. : )
VardaValar1: Arien is coming online.
AriehnV has entered the room.
fladrifv: Aiya Arien
ArPharazonV: Aiya
AriehnV: Aiya Flad, Pallando, Phara, Lord Tulkas and Lady Varda
VardaValar1: Aiya Steerswoman of the Sun. : )
VardaValar1: We are in Membership news, mentioned that we need to respond to the GPMU.
VardaValar1: We also have a 12th Anniversary coming up. : )
AriehnV: :-)
VardaValar1: Suggestions are welcome!
VardaValar1: We may do things that we have done before, especially ones you found the most fun.
fladrifv: ill start to write a new story
VardaValar1: Special stories, poems, articles, humor bits, art, music could be brought in with a remark on them that they are in honor of the anniversary.
VardaValar1: Great, Fladrif!
VardaValar1: We'll probably have our meeting to meeting AIM chat room marathon. : )
VardaValar1: Perhaps we could do some things in-game?
VardaValar1: Suggestions are welcome for in-game partying, any game.
VardaValar1: Any other suggestions for the anniversary? You can think about it and say more goodies later. We have planning time. : )
VardaValar1: Ok, too much side window talk by me, sorry.
top

VardaValar1: Web:
VardaValar1: We have new stories being put up.
VardaValar1: I was working on it right before the meeting so they aren't properly linked and dated yet, but you can read them.
VardaValar1: These are the ay of Lasgalen Rainbow Drabbles posted today:
VardaValar1: *Jay
VardaValar1: (Yellow) "Torchlight" March 8, 3019
VardaValar1: (Orange) "Beacons" March 8, 3019
VardaValar1: (Indigo) "The Dawnless Day" March 9, 3019
VardaValar1: (Blue) "A Wind From the South" March 14, 3019
VardaValar1: (Violet) "Banners Before the Gate" March 25, 3019
VardaValar1: (Rainbow) "At the End of All Things" March 25, 3019
VardaValar1: (Green) "The Wood of Greenleaves" April 6, 3019
VardaValar1: (Red) "On Pelennor Fields the Poppies Blow" March 15, 3020
VardaValar1: There you go.
VardaValar1: That's a complete series based on the colors of the rainbow. An interesting idea to make a theme and get your creative juices going.
VardaValar1: Any of us can try that stunt, think of something like colors or other things to help us.
VardaValar1: What might be something like that you might suggest to our writers?
AriehnV: colours that would offer themselves for LotR would be Black, Green, White .. i think those mainly
VardaValar1: Jay used a whole rainbow for LotR, so it's interesting to see different views of what makes sense.
ArPharazonV: red, black, and indeed white, if you went the other way :-)
VardaValar1: We could also see about various things that could be anniversaries in Middle-earth. : )
VardaValar1: How people or non-humans celebrated later about the things in the story, for instance.
VardaValar1: Oh, the last part of last week's transcript with the game was added, from Eonwe's email.
VardaValar1: Indis suggested this new link for our Links page, now on there:
VardaValar1: Languages: Omentielvo: The International Conference on J.R.R. Tolkien's Invented Languages - Link to book for sale of language conference papers including a Google preview. Link recommended by Indis-(V).
VardaValar1: Tulkas is letting his dogs outside. : )

VardaValar1: Gaming:
VardaValar1: Fladrif has been making progress in Second Life. Care to tell about it, ent buddy?
fladrifv: *walks on stage
fladrifv: *stands carefully on the stone part of it*
fladrifv: I have been making good progres in Sl, have been building heaps of stuff
fladrifv: not limited to but including doors windows and all kind of interactive things
fladrifv: even found some options to be temporarely an ent
VardaValar1: Oh cool. :-)
fladrifv: which made me very hapy as all can believe
VardaValar1: I met a guy who became a dragon, flew around, was a hit at a party. : )
VardaValar1: Can you do it again?
fladrifv: yes found some magic
VardaValar1: He seemed to rebuild his own body.
fladrifv: which actually ended up on someoneelse land who was not that hapy
VardaValar1: oooops
fladrifv: angry neighbour :-)
VardaValar1: Do you have your own land now?
fladrifv: yes within the faery area
VardaValar1: Yay!
fladrifv: have my own experimental skybox now
VardaValar1: Those are cool. You can try out anything there.
fladrifv: you all are welcome to see the buildings
VardaValar1: Do you also have land on the ground?
VardaValar1: I want to build a park. : )
fladrifv: yes but its not alowed to test things there :-)
VardaValar1: But you can put your good test results there. : )
fladrifv: youre welcome to visit varda
fladrifv: indeed
VardaValar1: Thank you! How do we find you?
fladrifv: Contact SodoI in SL
fladrifv: he will be hapy to show you
VardaValar1: When might we find you online there? And you should be sure to tell Eonwe for the GPMU. : )
fladrifv: informed Eonwe
VardaValar1: You learned scripting from a particular place?
VardaValar1: Cool
fladrifv: I contacted someone who had 15000 sample scripts
fladrifv: but started from zero was more easy
VardaValar1: I understand that there are places there that offer to train. But going to the source sounds great if he's willing!
VardaValar1: Anyone else here do Second Life?
VardaValar1: If not, we'll move on. : )
fladrifv: *jumps of stage*
VardaValar1: What other non-WoW and non-LotRO games did we play this week? I'll bet Fladrif had some.
VardaValar1: Hasty ent. : )
fladrifv: oh just shortly I finished 2nd part of monkey island
TulkasValar61: back
fladrifv: 2/5
VardaValar1: Welcome back, Tulkas : )
fladrifv: and played the first part of wallace and grommits
fladrifv: next to that the normal chess activities
fladrifv: that was all :-)
ArPharazonV: Played some more Battle for Middle Earth, maxing out Lurtz and Saruman's armies and steadily overrunning all of Middle-earth to gain all the possible points for the "ring-powers".. was able to afford the most expensive one a few days ago, summoning a Balrog ;-)
VardaValar1: Sounds like a lot. : )
VardaValar1: Ok, summoning a balrog. Did he have you for lunch?
ArPharazonV: still a number of optional territories to go but I'll get there
ArPharazonV: nah, but apparently summoning him near the enemy base's entrance shatters their gate, which is nice, means I don't have to use siege weapons to open up the way for my armies anymore
VardaValar1: heh
VardaValar1: A tip.
ArPharazonV: he did nearly kill Saruman with a big cleave attack though, so I have to be careful not to lose my own armies to him
ArPharazonV: instead trying to seperate them during the attack
VardaValar1: oops : )
ArPharazonV: and that's pretty much it, most of my time was spent in WoW but I'll have more details there in the appropriate section
VardaValar1: Thank you. :-)
ArPharazonV: and of course making plans for other games to come, as I said at the start of the meeting
AriehnV: good good
VardaValar1: Indis says hi, in a major instance, but she'll try to show up even if a bit on the afk side.
VardaValar1: Ok, Tulkas is now in our kin in LotRO. :-)
karakedi25 has entered the room.
ArPharazonV: Aiya Indis
VardaValar1: Online right now in LotRO I see Melkor, Indis, Finarfin, Arien, Tulkas, and me. : )
VardaValar1: Aiya raider! : )
VardaValar1: Go get 'em!
karakedi25: aiya!
VardaValar1: And thanks for dropping in here too.
karakedi25: will try to be on spottily ;-)
VardaValar1: Cool - thanks
karakedi25: already got my coin; helping the last member get his ;-)
VardaValar1: WoW news:
VardaValar1: Excellent! Anyone I know Indis?
karakedi25: name is Merolyn, and everyone but me is in Grace of the Valar
karakedi25: nice guys
VardaValar1: Thanks
AriehnV: then i start with Wow news for once eh?
AriehnV: on behalf of wow europe :-) since i played a wee bit on my priest who gets right nasty now :-) Shadowform, level 40 , swift brown horse and a hello in the valar channel :-)
VardaValar1: Go ahead : )
AriehnV: saw Pharazon and Menelvagor in the channel and Calaron has said hallo to me :-) but else was a wee bit busy i think hehe just as Menel was
VardaValar1: : )
AriehnV: thats it from my side
VardaValar1: Thanks Arien :-)
VardaValar1: Tulkas and I are popping over to the kinhouse
ArPharazonV: *nod* I remember seeing Arien in the channel though I've been a bit busy myself
VardaValar1: Uldaman and Lothar had some runs, get-togethers. Friday Lothar night we all ran together
VardaValar1: Pallando, go ahead with Eve. :-)
pallandovalar: Not much, honestly.
pallandovalar: Still kicking and screaming.
VardaValar1: *gets earmuffs*
pallandovalar: Still have plenty of money and time to help out anyone interested.
pallandovalar: And just for menel: my main now has a vagabond that's closing in on 1b in value.
pallandovalar: Pallando is still running level 1s with a horrible quality agent because I refuse to get social skills for him.
pallandovalar: So right up the alley of anyone just starting.
pallandovalar: Other than that, nada. Still can't talk to anyone becuase I keep thinking I have to stay IC.
pallandovalar: Drives me crazy.
VardaValar1: Then be in character and find a way to speak. : )
pallandovalar: I can't speak about LotR in character. :p
VardaValar1: A tentacle just grabbed Tulkas. : )
VardaValar1: A club that your character is in?
VardaValar1: He reads, right?
pallandovalar: Quite illiterate.
pallandovalar: ;-)
pallandovalar: No, I just have to keep reminding myself that I just "play" Pallando.
pallandovalar: It's just a hard habit to get out of after 4 years..
VardaValar1: Then he has an oral tradition?
VardaValar1: Tulkas has been hauled off to make a barbecue. : )
TulkasValar61 has left the room.
VardaValar1: In LotRO, we are about to have an expansion this fall.
karakedi25: was nice to meet him even briefly
VardaValar1: Mirkwood is being added, and we will join Lorien in the southern side for the battle to help free Mirkwood.
VardaValar1: Thranduil's forces came from the north in the books, and met up in the middle at Dol Guldur.
karakedi25: And lots of bells and whistles added along with the story.
VardaValar1: During the huge battle, much of the forest was burned.
VardaValar1: It will be interesting to see how the game handles all this.
karakedi25: They've done a rather good job of staying true to lore within gameplay so far.
VardaValar1: Aye : )
pallandovalar: Oh! Real fast. forgot. The 7th alliance tournament is going on in eve right now. My main's alliance got whupped, this week, hoping to do better next week. In 2 weeks the finals will be piped live over the internet with commentary if anyone is interested in watching.
VardaValar1: The level cap will be going up too.
pallandovalar: sorry, go on. :-)
VardaValar1: Cool, good luck. Where is the url for that?
ArPharazonV: good luck, Pallando :-)
VardaValar1: For the LotRO people's press release, the URL is http://www.lotro.com/news/pressreleases/459-the-lord-of-the-rings-online-siege-of-mirkwood
VardaValar1: Any further games news?
pallandovalar: http://www.eveonline.com/news.asp?a=single&nid=3334&tid=1 expansion
VardaValar1: Thanks, Pallando : )
pallandovalar: http://at7.eve-ic.net/ alliance tournament
ArPharazonV: well, as far as my WoW goes...
pallandovalar: complete with links for the internet radio broadcasts of next week's qualifying rounds.
ArPharazonV: set myself a deadline to reach 100 mounts by the end of September though since that requires doing all Tournament dailies and the heroic instance every day, as well as grinding about 8000 more gold, on top of 2 weeks of world events with little margin of error...
ArPharazonV: I doubt I"ll make the deadline :-)
ArPharazonV: got up to 91 mounts this week
VardaValar1: We'll be checking that out, Pallando!
VardaValar1: When is the deadline on the WoW mounts, Phar?
VardaValar1: O pardon. : )
ArPharazonV: though I was suggested a good grinding spot for cash, made 100g there in half an hour yesterday, so on top of doing as many dailies as possible, the money might not even be a problem
VardaValar1: Good luck, Phar! I'll bet you get close at least.
ArPharazonV: *nod*
VardaValar1: Is it safe to mention the place? : )
VardaValar1: for gold grinding.
ArPharazonV: in a bit of a race with a warlock from another guild I've befriended, who needs a few more champion's seals than I do, but has no gold-grinding to do for it, so could be close!
VardaValar1: Competition! Sounds like a fun race.
VardaValar1: (And they say I'm bad about mount collecting in LotRO!)
ArPharazonV: yeah, sure, the converted heroes in the western half of Icecrown, they come in groups of 7, drop reasonable silver with chances of green items, and the groups are easily soloed (by me, at least)
VardaValar1: In the LotRO expansion, the horse icons will no longer take bag space, they claim. Should be a huge help!
karakedi25: (finished with instance; everyone who needed it got a coin, and I have my radiance pants)
ArPharazonV: combined with shift for autoloot and the occasional selfheal plus occasional innervate, it can go quite fast
VardaValar1: Thank you for the tip, Phar!
ArPharazonV: ah, yes, that sounds useful
VardaValar1: Congrats Indis!
karakedi25: thanks, and now I can be more present at the meeting :-)
ArPharazonV: Blizzard added the same thing a year ago or so, maybe LotrO has learned its lesson too :-)
ArPharazonV: grats Indis!
karakedi25: thanks :-)
VardaValar1: The Golden Earring too. You made out very well!
karakedi25: now I can go battle the watcher!
karakedi25: yes, i did indeed, plus a decent rune and a T4 setting :-)
VardaValar1: Excellent. Collect plenty of repair money. : )
VardaValar1: ohh good!
karakedi25: I'll need it. Next stop is Rivendell for my insane repairs.
ArPharazonV: allright, I should be off to bed
ArPharazonV: sorry I'll be missing Tolkien but eh, what can you do
VardaValar1: Sleep well!
ArPharazonV: gotta get up in 5 hours
VardaValar1: Sleep fast!
ArPharazonV: haha
top

VardaValar1: Tolkien:
ArPharazonV: saving and sending
karakedi25: (repair bill 514 before rep discount)
karakedi25: sorry you can't stay, Phar
ArPharazonV (5:25:11 PM): saved  [note: times in CDT, add one hour for Eastern]
ArPharazonV (5:25:18 PM): myeah, oh well
VardaValar1 (5:25:27 PM): How many of us are available for chat?
ArPharazonV (5:25:42 PM): maybe next week business meeting will be faster *shrug*
karakedi25 (5:25:52 PM): me
VardaValar1 (5:26:11 PM): Eonwe runs them fast.
VardaValar1 (5:26:26 PM): I don't think we're having much of a chat, not enough actually present.
ArPharazonV (5:27:21 PM): sent
VardaValar1 (5:27:38 PM): Indis, what was a spot in LotR that sticks out in your mind when you think of LotR?
karakedi25 (5:27:53 PM): Rivendell :-)
ArPharazonV (5:27:59 PM): namarie!
karakedi25 (5:27:59 PM): Imladris to us
karakedi25 (5:28:05 PM): Namarie!
VardaValar1 (5:28:13 PM): Namarie
ArPharazonV (5:28:29 PM) has left the room.
VardaValar1 (5:28:59 PM): What about Rivendell makes it come to mind, besides that you just ported there? : )
karakedi25 (5:29:54 PM): actually I haven't yet...
karakedi25 (5:30:33 PM): but Alasse is a Nolde, and she makes her home there. I've always liked what I've read about it; it appeals to me most of all the elven enclaves in Middle Earth...
karakedi25 (5:30:44 PM): it's cosmopolitan yet blissful
karakedi25 (5:31:04 PM): beautiful and yet a place of learning and productive labor
karakedi25 (5:31:21 PM): I like that it's a center of learning
karakedi25 (5:31:27 PM): enough?
VardaValar1 (5:31:27 PM): Civilized yet has a love of nature.
VardaValar1 (5:31:33 PM): Aye, thanks.
karakedi25 (5:31:35 PM): indeed--the best of both
VardaValar1 (5:31:39 PM): *bangs gavel*
top

VardaValar1 (5:31:43 PM): After-meeting. : )
karakedi25 (5:31:55 PM): someone else's turn?
VardaValar1 (5:32:05 PM): You and I are the only live ones.
VardaValar1 (5:32:13 PM): I'm going to go make supper now.
karakedi25 (5:32:16 PM): ah, then what about you?
VardaValar1 (5:32:21 PM): Mirkwood. : )
karakedi25 (5:32:22 PM): oh, more important :-)
karakedi25 (5:32:30 PM): of course, Fainan is a silvan
VardaValar1 (5:33:01 PM): I love the idea of living in the deep forest, not dependent on the Ring but on their own working together and abilities.
VardaValar1 (5:33:11 PM): The elves there were allowed to be truly elvish.
karakedi25 (5:33:25 PM): A different kind of elvish
karakedi25 (5:33:32 PM): yet equally so
VardaValar1 (5:33:33 PM): Yet they had to fight against Dol Guldur with Sauron himself trying to survive.
VardaValar1 (5:33:39 PM): Yes, different.
VardaValar1 (5:33:54 PM): That's why I picked a Silvan elf for my main in LotRO. : )
karakedi25 (5:33:56 PM): yes, valiant and yet close to nature ;-)
VardaValar1 (5:37:14 PM): They had civilization too, valued learning. That's why the Silvans had the Sindar come to "rule" and teach them, although these Sindar wanted to be close to nature like them.
karakedi25 (5:37:45 PM): *nods* which is also elven--love of learning and 'art'
karakedi25 (5:38:05 PM): l
VardaValar1 (5:38:07 PM): Aye
VardaValar1 (5:38:47 PM): The Silvans weren't dying out. That's because they weren't depending on a Ring.
VardaValar1 (5:38:55 PM): They remained when the others sailed.
karakedi25 (5:39:12 PM): Though I know they also felt the call of the West.
VardaValar1 (5:39:17 PM): If they could just keep their Sindar from getting glimpses of the Sea, that would have helped. : )
karakedi25 (5:39:25 PM): hehehe
VardaValar1 (5:39:30 PM): Aye, but the Silvans were ok if they kept away from the Sea.
VardaValar1 (5:39:34 PM): Sindar were too.
VardaValar1 (5:39:53 PM): Noldor had a low level call all the time, from having been across once in their background.
karakedi25 (5:40:06 PM): though sooner or later they had to cross or fade
VardaValar1 (5:40:27 PM): It was very hard for Celeborn, a Sinda who loved the forests. His wife, Galadriel, wanted to go home to Valinor, and he wanted to stay.
VardaValar1 (5:40:38 PM): The Silvans did remain.
karakedi25 (5:41:02 PM): they had the right of return (were Eldar), and I assume some did go West later
VardaValar1 (5:41:08 PM): Not the Lorien Silvans so much, as a lot of them went to be with Galadriel, spoiled by the Ring.
VardaValar1 (5:41:37 PM): The Mirkwood Silvans were welcome to go to Valinor, but did not choose to. They did remain.
VardaValar1 (5:41:59 PM): Yes, some would go to Valinor, especially if they came into contact with the Sea.
karakedi25 (5:42:00 PM): I'm guessing later on, some did go, when it was clear that their age was over
VardaValar1 (5:42:34 PM): They were the mythological source of the fairy tales and of the strange beings in the woods, since they remained.
VardaValar1 (5:42:46 PM): That was part of Tolkien's mythology.
karakedi25 (5:42:52 PM): could have been Avari
VardaValar1 (5:43:14 PM): I am just going by what I read.
VardaValar1 (5:43:25 PM): Avari and Silvans may have combined.
VardaValar1 (5:43:31 PM): Not much about the Avari.
VardaValar1 (5:43:44 PM): I need to go cook. Kind of skipped breakfast and lunch.
karakedi25 (5:43:47 PM): no, except that they were the only non-Eldar
